As Gale's on the mind again, time to bring up BG1 lore about mystra!
For anybody who truly doesn't think Gale was groomed, that a good god would NEVER!
This isn't even the first time she's done something like this, sure it wasn't grooming for Dornar Silverhand but she did take over his love interests body so she could manipulate him into children...
Tldr She takes over a girl (who was enthusiastic to be a goddess's chosen, then unsure once she realized it was for this) to convince a guy (her very loyal follower who was already in love so he said no) for kids.
He watches his wife become a literal shell of herself so that she can have seven children with the energy of both their parents. And he ends up having to kill his wife because she's become a lich shell of a person.
To which after he cuts her head off mystra shows up and goes "yeah sorry, my doing." And he loses it, running from Neverwinter up to the north and disappearing until he dies for 30 years where she continues to protect him.
The worst part? Dornar goes back to her after it all, helping her find more chosen. What Gale could have been.
I feel like a big part of the story that the writers were trying to tell us was that even if you were formally mortal the second you go on to the pedestal of a previous God you inhabit who they were, and mystra is the weave before all.
It fits perfectly with the Durge (and Astarion) storylines, if you don't remove yourself completely from the cycle you will inevitably become what you dislike, even if you intended for the best.

History of the Chosen of Mystra:
The reason why Mystra, the Goddess of Magic, invested a portion of her divine might into mortals is not known. One of the popular theories, and one that is gaining more support in light of the other goddess' during that period, is that Mystra foresaw the Time of Troubles (and her own passing at the hands of Helm) and chose to give some of her powers to mortals in order to ensure that her successor (the female mage, Midnight, as it turned out) would have a number of nearly immortal allies in the struggle against the schemes of the gods (the now dead Bane, Myrkul and Bhaal) who precipitated the Time of Troubles by stealing the Tablets of Fate.
The theory goes on to suggest that Mystra informed Azuth at approximately the Year of the Rising Flame (0 DR), more than 1,300 years ago before the Times of Troubles, that some of her power must be put into the hands of mortals who would then become known as Mystra's Chosen. The power would sleep within the bodies of those mortals, allowing Mystra only to call on it only with their permission. It would give the Chosen to innate ability to heal quickly, and would give them life spans far greater than those of ordinary mortals. Mystra speculated that these mortals might be able to call on her power and thereby gain some special abilities, but that these powers would not rival those of a deity. (See "Powers" below.)
The Goddess of All Magic then began to select mortals she thought to be suitable. One of the first was the young mage Elminister, and she also singled out a promising wizard named Khelben Arunsen. Both of them proved to be worthy and capable receptacles of her power, but Mystra's other early attempts to invest her power in living humans were unsuccessful, and she came to realize that only a very few mortals were of stern enough substance to contain such power within themselves without being destroyed or corrupted. Even though some people aside from Elminister and Khelben may have possessed the requisite strength, it is possible that having lived for years prior to being visited by Mystra had set them on a path from which they were not able to deviate. Whatever the reason, the problem needed to be solved. To get around the difficulty, Mystra devised a plan to use herself as a vessel to breed individuals who could be nurtured and acclimated to her power from the very beginnings of their lives.
For the father of these individuals, she picked the best example of human stock she could find: Dornar Silverhand, a nobleman and a former Harper who lived near Neverwinter. Mystra then possessed the body of Elue Shandur, a helf-elven sorceress whom Dornal was already attracted to. Mystra revealed her presence and her plan to Eleu, who happily and eagerly agreed to have the goddess share her body. Eleu had been reluctant, but under the influence of Mystra the woman became a seductress, and Dornal found his advances being suddenly returned with great fervor.
Dornal and Mystra/Eleu were wed in the Year of the Drifting Stars (760 DR). The first of the seven daughters, Anastra Syluné, was born the following winter. Sylune's six sisters emerged at one-year interval thereafter: Endue Alustriel, Ambara Dove, Ethena Astorma (she prefers the name "Storm" these days), Anamanué Laeral, Alassa Shentrantra (known today as the Simbul) and Erésseae Qilué. These siblings have become known in Realmsian lore as the Seven Sisters.
Dornal, who had been kept in the dark about his wife's true nature through the years (presumably because Mystra didn't want to risk losing his services), was disappointed and distraught by the time his sixth child was born; he had always wanted sons as well as daughters. More importantly, he was seeing his wife deteriorate right before his eyes. The strain of coexisting with the goddess all these years had turned Eleu into a withered shell - in essence a lich, clinging to life only because Mystra's power was within her.
When Eleu was carrying the seventh child, Dornal consulted a priest who told him his wife had been possessed by a entity of great magical power. To spare both of them any further agony, he attempted to slay his wife's physical form by severing her head from her body.
As soon he had done this, Mystra was forced to reveal herself to him, and she went on to explain her scheme. Just as she had worried would happen, Dornal was aghast at how he and his wife had been used by the goddess. He turned his back on the corpse of his wife, abandoned his lands and his children, and vanished into the North. Mystra bore him no ill will, and in fact protected him for the final 30 years of his life. When Dornal finally did meet his end he called out to Mystra, and the goddess granted his continued existence as her servant. Now known as the Watcher, Dornal Silverhand travels the world unseen by mortals on a continuing mission to locate candidates to swell the ranks of the Chosen and to identify possible threats to Mystra and her minions

i think i've said this before but i used to really not Understand or like timmy and helia being best friends but it really grew on me over time. obviously their main bestie is tecna and flora respectively, but specifically for just the specialists, i really like them now.
i just tend to think about timmy being this really self-conscious guy who is constantly being looked down on by his peers and even his crush, who is so committed to being a specialist but starts to doubt if he's worthy, who wants so badly to have a Special Someone who understands him,,, being put into this team where two of the members are already best friends and have an insane amount of history and loyalty to each and you can't just Get in the middle of that and the other guy is really, really stuck in his I Don't Need Friends They Disappoint Me Stage. like,,, the loneliness? the loneliness of not having a Best Friend on the team? then he finds tecna but even she starts to look down on him?
like,,, the toll that would take on someone is,,, not fun to think about. while they may not have a lot of scenes together, timelia being best friends is honestly so cute and makes so much sense. timmy had to put up with so much bullshit from the specialists (affectionate), finding someone who isn't going to look down on you, or doubt you, or always think of you as a Secondary Friend is So Important and that's such a big aspect of their friendship. timmy really trusts helia! and you can see this especially in the comics when he gets so mad that helia leaves. he's literally never acted like that with any of the other specialists! in the show or in the comics, timmy may get a little sad, but he never gets that angry and that desperate to contact whoever left. it just,,, says so much about him,,,
like timmy gets painted a lot as this nerd who only cares about tecna (and like. yes. true) but more than that, he's a very sensitive and caring guy who yearns for deep, trusting relationships. tecna is 100% his best friend and special person, but the friendship that timmy builds with the specialists and even the other winx is so important. he craved close relationships so much,,, and it's so nice that they didn't go into the loser lonely nerd trope.
i just really like that timmy was able to find friends that truly respect and love him. and specifically timmy being best friends with helia makes so much sense when you stop thinking about their interests and personalities, and instead think about how much the two of them craved people they could trust, people who would never make them feel less than, people who wouldn't treat them like backup friends, people they could actually connect to. it's just,,, they're so important to me actually <3
#ik everyone hates later seasons but i really love that later comic issue with timmy's birthday#i feel like that shows So Much#like.. timmy is self-conscious yes he doubts himself yes#but so much of that is based of what other people think of him and not necessarily what he thinks of himself#i feel like for the most part timmy is pretty secure in his knowledge and abilities#he knows what he can do!#but the anxiety that other people would look down on him? or think he's not as good? not as worthy?#That's what gets him#and like helia has Never made timmy feel that way and i think thats a big reason why timmy latched onto him#like obviously timmy fully forgave tecna and there's no bad blood there#but he does still get anxious about her thinking he's not good enough. not smart enough. not strong enough. not brave enough#like. it scares him!#and while the specialists respect timmy a lot we know that he gets that fear with them too#but as far as we know that really doesnt happen with helia#like.. helia is shown to comfort timmy a lot so i think that helps#but timmy just doesnt feel anxious around helia which is So Important for him#i just... they <3#winx helia#winx timmy#long post

Ugh why lately do I keep remembering traumatic events from my childhood that explain so much?
#gpoy#actually cptsd#I'm not talking about recovered memories#just things I haven't thought about in ages#and am for the first time (after a few decades) fully realizing they are fucked up#what say you not everyone's childhood was like that? whoa#also hilarious because I have known for a long time that I had a difficult childhood#how am I still discovering new layers to it#or rather new layers and how it has affected the way I relate to the world#so I mean in some ways it's good#I have had therapists who tell me it's not necessarily productive to what's the reasons why I do things#and I think that's true to some extent#because searching for them doesn't mean you'll find them & you can spend expend lots of energy searching that you could spend doing sth else#but when they just kind of appear out of nowhere and slap you in the face#it's a great opportunity to examine them and their relationship to today and go#oh fuck you mean I don't do this maladaptive thing for no reason!#I do it for a very good reason#and now I understand how it was once adaptive and helpful#and understanding that puts me in a better position to let go of it and figure out better ways to adapt to current challenges

do you have any drawing tips? i'm just starting out and your style inspires me to keep going fr!!
HIYA !!! thank you that is so kind of you, i would say to keep drawing with references and do studies!! typically art studies (in like art school lol) are of old masters (da vinci, etc) but doing studies of styles that you like, like trying to copy a certain artist you like, also helps you develop skills !!
for example, lots of people (especially fanartists lol) do studies of artists like leyendecker while making the models their favorite characters/ocs, so it helps to make studies fun. literally look up leyendecker study on tumblr dot com and you will see hundreds.
(gets a bit long and rambly so i've thrown it under the cut :')
style studies can be anything! above was done while watching wolfwalkers, just loose sketches that copied the style as the movie went along. i love the design and style in that film, wanted to incorporate it in my character design work, so i tried it out myself! it let me know the kinds of shapes used in the construction, the way it moves (wrt to animation) and silhouettes. by copying something, you learn how to do it on the way (so the kinds of colors used, what works best with shading, etc) it's like. reverse engineering
even very loosely copying something to identify what you like about the style helps! these were modelled after the way slimsense on ig paints (her work is 2nd + 4th examples below, my attempts at 'paint' 1st and 3rd lol), but doesn't really look like her work. i'm not necessarily trying to make perfect copies. i liked that her paint didn't blend perfectly, was blocky, and the additional lineart over the painting, so i brought that into my own art. i tried to create a painting style that was 'my own' off of lots of trial and error, and seeing what stuck!
also find brushes you like! adobe has a bunch on their page (if you have photoshop, but i know there's some for procreate and other programs) and if you want the adobe brush files, lmk. i will send a drive link to you LOL (sketches of the same characters, using different brushes below. the two i used the most often, one being a solid inker and the other being a paintbrush)
generally doing figure drawing is good too. i've heard advice about art where you can only start breaking the rules after you understand them, and a good grasp on anatomy, proportions, etc is definitely a good place to start! good sites to use for this are line of action for poses, and the morpho books (if you need pdfs of this let me know, though you should be able to find them if you look lol) !
i would also say learn perspective early on. i have no tips for you here i am so sorry. i didn't and now it bites me in the ass, but there has to be a youtube tutorial for this out there that can help you AND me. same goes for color theory. quickly dropping my favorite van gogh quote of all time:
(quote is from a letter to his brother) just everyone needs the fundamentals first. don't worry about a personal style: that just comes naturally as you develop as an artist, and i was certainly inspired by a lot of the things i watched/consumed and artists i admired which absolutely shows in my work i think (manet. western comics. fma. avatar. pjo fanart. there are tells. you know how it is.)
also flip your canvas !!! like see below ... frankly this marcille is so lopsided (her entire face should shift to the left) LOL !! flipping horizontally makes the anatomy mistakes obvious, and shows you you what you need to fix. i should never have posted this as is but sometimes it works for humor and an artist is lazy </3
AND ALWAYS USE REFERENCES WHEN YOU CAN!! i should use more references tbh!!! it helps with posing, getting anatomy correct, etc, and my friends use pinterest a lot, though i tend to just google when i need to LOLLL
also draw what you like. there is genuinely nothing that is better for your art than getting into something REALLY BAD and then non stop drawing it. time + practice will lead to improvement no matter what the subject is!
i hope this was not too much information all at once !!! and some of it is helpful!!! it's a lot of basic improvement tips that i try to practice and use when i can :) so sorry that this got so long!!!!

I guess I’ll just block perhaps most people in The Witcher fandom (or hatedom), even many I like or find interesting. Because:
1) you probably will or already do not like me!
2) I may love some of your takes but adamantly disagree with many others.
3) I… am clearly not at all on the same page as most in this fandom. To me, this seems like a very non interactive fandom, where we each generate our own work, and then agree with one another, no matter what. So I should try to refrain from answering questions that are posted only to be insults or jokes, responding to people who are very good at coming up with their own theories but have no interest in imbibing others, or projecting my own issues with the entire fandom onto some random fan.

#so#here is the thing#when you've spent most of your life in a very happy relationship with fantasy#the idea of having a relationship in *reality*#well that may not be very happy. might result in feeling like your heart got ripped out your asshole. but even ignoring that#suddenly the amorphous idea of a partner (which can be anything) takes the shape of an actual person#which can very much only be one thing. this feels like doors closing. feels like getting trapped#part of the difficulty here is that i have difficulty not thinking in the long term (this is a defense mechanism apparently) so#even allowing the possibility of being with someone feels confining#because what if the reality is painfully disappointing (like everyone keeps telling me it will be#bc nothing can measure up to the fantasy) and then im trapped between a lifetime of disappointment and breaking somebody's heart#like. fantasy and Yearning leave one empty to a degree but they've kept me *alive*#and how could the reality ever have that same emotional high while also being Safe and in control#also it doesn't hurt anybody#my over the top desire for intensity feels like something nobody's ever going to want to match. too big. too much. unhealthy prolly#even if they did it wouldn't necessarily be a good thing#so. better maybe to quarantine myself to fantasy.#the Rewards of Being Loved tho. i want those.#realistic and rational part of me knows that Those are the Real Good Healthy Thing that will help the pain#but damn if im not attached to my little pet torments#what if i don't want to be healed? does suffering and trauma just sort of get you addicted to the intensity of emotion and then you're jus#chasing that forever? is anything healthy ever going to feel like Enough???#like how do you just ask somebody ''hey do you want to crawl inside each other's rib cages and take everything way too fucking seriously#so we can attempt to maintain a perpetual state of Desire and the subsequent altered state of consciousness until we both die?''#''but in like a chill way?''#like that's *insane*#im insane. is there any way to have both???#ugh. anyway. don't get crushes this sucks.

once again fighting tooth and nail against the deeply engraved insecurities and issues we got notes emailed to us from rehersal last night and my brain launched into OHHH WERE NOT DOING GOOD ENOUGH WE SUCK SO BAD AT EVERYTHING like hey. calm down. its ok. take my hand we can keep trying to improve
#it wasnt even that i had any bad notes given to me i just have to emphasize one word more but my brain was like#hm everyone else (over generalizing) got praised and got more notes than me. i must be a FAILURE#when its like. no thats not true. you were told recently that you have very good instincts for acting and#that we take direction really well and so me having less notes is not necessarily a bad thing#but its still hard to fight off the feeling of self doubt and ohhh what if im bad at this thing i love#like ok so what if were bad at it? this isnt professional theater. id like to be doing professional acting but this is community theater#i always do my very best in any production im in but like in the end who cares if i suck at it. im not getting paid#anyway going to try and record my voice lines for the animated short film im voicing soon and i think thatll help

i just wanted to let you know how much i love your meta on this campaign, especially on imogen!! (my beloved) i’ve been seeing some negative takes on her lately, same old stuff with people ‘calling out’ how invasive and rude it is for to continue to use her telepathy on npcs without their consent and other nitpicky things? (to me there’s a weird line to draw since it’s quite literally one of the main ‘features’ that imogen has and if laura didn’t utilize it it’d be a bit of a waste imo but anyways-) imogen in general is just such a cool character to get into and analyze and your takes on her are always 👌✨✨

i will say though, that for that particular telepathy take, i don't really disagree that there's an... maybe not invasive, but like. non innocuous nature to it? I do think that the way Imogen deals with psychic communication and voices in her head and like. Her entire concept of mental privacy is probably pretty informed as a result of. The Events Of Her Life. That said- she seems very aware of the unease and fear it can strike up in people, and, she uses it very effectively for intimidation effect and gaining the upper hand in certain interactions. That awareness- and willingness to use it- I think shines a light on a really interesting and integral aspect of her characterization. Slightly terrifying (affectionate).
I think on a more general note though, about people doing "callouts" or etc and the phrasing of like. rude, or, lbr moral judgements of her character overall. i. okay. i'll say first that I think sometimes people just don't. vibe with, or like certain characters and thats fine. (and good! I think its a good sign when there are characters with traits not universally positive that still feel very human and understandable and sympathetic). I also agree that it can also be frustrating to feel like someone is doing an. uncharitable, or erroneous read of a character you like due to pre-existing distaste. I've made my life easier by thinking of it as the other side of the coin where folks favouring a particular character bleeds into their assessments and assumptions about things.
But if its really weighing on you, blocking is always an option, and doesn't hurt anyone! Curating your own fandom experience is good- i think its valuable to see posts and follow people who don't always agree with you, but you're not under a moral obligation to keep seeing the posts of people who just have different (fandom) opinions and are actually upsetting you.
But yes. I do love analyzing Imogen- I love approaching all characters from the lens of trying to understand why they do whatever they do, and Imogen tends to land in a sweet spot for me where my indulgent expectations for her behaviour tend to pan out surprisingly often, and what she does feels right for where she's at. Even if I don't agree with it, even if its not a "good" thing (by whatever subjective measure). Its very satisfying! She's a complex character for sure. Its very fun.

#auri rambles#no thoughts head empty and im gonna have to flesh out the lore later but#he has a history of getting bitches but not necessarily wanting them even before the whole immortality thing happened#like uh i think pre-perpetua he had a relationship with a girl named maria-isabel. everyone expected them to get married#(+ everything that entails). luna liked her on an emotional level but he was super uncomfortable with Physical Intimacy(TM).#he could do the courting just fine but things fell apart once they moved past that#he didnt have the vocabulary to communicate asexuality and conceptually she thought it was weird and that his discomfort was from#like him secretly cheating or actually being gay or something#(it wasnt. he's asexual & kind of sex-repulsed). but luna's inability to 'commit' brought Shame and Humiliation upon him somewhat#but moreso maria-isabel (and her family).#so he decided to prevent that from happening again he'd just do the sensible thing and help start a friend's globe-building project#completely opting out of the societal expectations involving relationships and starting families and everything else.#and then things fell apart on perpetua after edward ran off to join marcianus and agustin died#so no luna's 20s were not good to him at all

I'm kind of obsessed that no one really cares that gen q got canceled. Do you know how bad a show has to be for the twitter lesbians NOT to start a # to try and save it? Granted it's probably because the reboot is already in the works but it's still so funny to me.
There was a hashtag going around before any renewal/cancellation news dropped and the funny part is the # wasn’t aiming to save Gen Q but to basically do what they’re doing now which is completely scrap the show and start over so lmaooo what a win for the girlies
