as a fanfic writer it’s so satisfying to learn that something i’ve written was captivating enough for someone to just. stop what they’ve been doing to read the entire thing in one go. or even just ruin their entire sleep schedule. it’s like a pat on the back LOL

10 - Padma
Tumblr media
When Nandini arrived with lotus flowers, she saw Aditha Karikalan sitting alone on the granite steps of the old abandoned temple pond. His horse or soldiers were nowhere to be seen. Did he walk here? Royal family rarely visited these temples as they are staunch Shaivaites. Sembiyan Madevi paid them regularly and Kundavai conducted poojas on special occasions like Janmashtami.
He hadn't seen her till now. If she sneaks away, he might go away after sometime. But she didn't want to sneak away. She felt like a tree rooted to the ground. She wanted to talk to him. She will . . . she will ask about his scars and war. Don't subjects have the right to talk that much to their rulers?
"Devi, if you worry this much you will grow old in teenage itself"
When did he see her?
"We all have become too old worrying about the war, komagane. What are you doing here? Royal men never come to this temple. Don't you all go to the Siva temple?"
"Yes, but after one have been to war they will start praying to all gods".
Nandini looked around to see if they are alone. She sat on another distant step. Her mind screamed that this is inappropriate and she should run away.
"Why do you always avoid me, Nandini?"
"Who am I to avoid you, ilavarase? You are the son of the Tirupuvana Chakravarty. The earth. . . "
Karikalan interjected, ". . . 'I stand upon is yours'. Isn't it? I don't want to talk about politics now. Tell me about yourself. I have been away for such a long time. You looked so sad when I went away. I thought it was because you'd miss me. But you look sad even after my return. Why?"
"There is nothing like that. Seriously. Nothing at all."
Karikalan didn't look convinced.
"What can I say about myself? We are a priests' family. We do the same things everyday. Stringing garlands, singing songs, lighting lamps, doing poojas, eating food, sometimes we fight each other. . .".
"You and fighting? Impossible". Both laughed.
"I see that you and my sister have become close when I was away. You were like mongoose and cobra when we were children."
"Did you just call me a snake?", Nandini faked annoyance.
"No, I was just . . ."
"It is alright ilavarase. We were immature children then. Ilaya Piratti has become a matured and responsible young lady. She is very generous to us. We will always be grateful".
"You know, I used to taunt her that you are more beautiful than her".
Nandini was shocked. Why would he say such things to his sister? Won't she feel sad if Thirumalai annan taunted her and akka saying that some other girl is more beautiful? No wonder Kundavai hated her.
"I am sorry, devi. Remember, I too was an immature boy then. I thought it was fun. I didn't think of the consequences but I am glad that you both have forgotten all that now".
"You should apologise to Ilaya Piratti". What has taken over her? Will he punish her for this insolence?
"I will"
Nandini smiled. "I have heard poets singing about your valour and ferocity. You have made quite a name for yourself".
The prince looked pleased but it was obvious that something was gnawing at his heart.
"Still the war isn't won. That coward Veera Pandyan escaped again. He is an expert in running off the battle field and hiding. Do you know, Nandini? This war didn't start today or yesterday. My father too fought him when they were young. Everyone thought my father died. He never talks about that period".
"Where is Veera Pandyan? Do you know?"
"Where else? Ezham. We have already sent a force under Kodumbalur Vellar. For some reason, they are too fond of that Veera Pandyan. This time we will teach them a lesson. Anyway, let us talk about something else. You all have grown up. Arulmozhi and sithappa were so little when I went. Now they are little men. Kundavai was a little jealous girl. You all look like new people."
"That's because you were busy with thoughts about war. You must have forgotten our old faces. But all I could think about was you. I prayed so intensely that your face started to appear before me whenever I prayed about something else too".
Ouch, she said too much. She was too overwhelmed that she didn't think before speaking. Inappropriate. Karikalan was smiling so radiantly that he looked like his namesake sun god.
"Ilaya Piratti and Periya Piratti too. All other girls too prayed. Then . . ."
She couldn't finish her sentence. She averted her gaze. She crossed all limits of properiety. Karikalar looked so ecstatic that it seemed as if he was drunk. He took one lotus bud from her lap. She felt like she reached Vaikuntam as his fingers brushed against her arms.
"Komagane, that's a bud. Here, take this big flower".
"No, I like the bud. Do you know why? Your folded hands remind me me of lotus buds. Aha! You are blushing. Now you look pink like a fully bloomed lotus".
He took a flower from her lap.
"Are you taking them for the pooja? For whom?"
"Who else? For the Padmanabhan who sleeps on Palazhi".
"Then, consider this an archana for this thevar. Next time you should bring lamps too."
"You are teasing me."
"No, I am being serious. At least Perumal has Lakshmi Devi for company. I am all alone."
"Where can we find a Lakshmi Devi in this kali yugam, thevare? You will have to adjust with the flowers. If you really want some company, we can search for an Ananthan in the forests."
"Ada kadavule, you are so mischievous."
"I am", Nandini took the lotus flowers and ran away. She could hear his laughter. She turned back after some time to see if he was looking at her. He wasn't. She felt a tiny hinge of disappointment. This was a mistake. She should never meet him alone.
Then he held the lotus bud so tenderly, so close to his heart and kissed the flower. Nandini shivered as if she fell into the pond at midnight.

Pairing: Eddie Munson x reader
Genre: Chrissy doesn’t die and Eddie graduates :)), fluff
Warnings: y’all go on an ice cream “not date”, jason carver, Eddie uses petnames
Word Count: 1K
———
“Okay. Listen. Just trust me. They have like, the best ice cream in Hawkins.”
Eddie’s dragging you up to the ice cream parlor that you passed by on your way to Eddie’s. And by dragging, I mean, dragging. He’s got you by your hand and opening the door for you as you go in. Eddie’s pointing out all his favorite, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry.
“They’re all home made so it’s like the best. And they change their flavors sometimes so there’s new flavors every couple months!!”
He’s like a kid in a candy store, quite literally in this scenario.
You’re listening to his excited ramblings but just barely. Your hand is in his as you guys get ready to go next in line to pick out your ice cream. You grow nervous, your neck heating up and you’re very conscious of your hand growing more clammy than it already was.
“So, whatcha gonna get?” Eddie asks, his eyes sparkling just like a clear night sky.
“Uhhhhhh…,” You scan the flavors quickly. “Maybe the strawberry cheesecake. It sounds good. And I really like cheesecake.”
“You should let me try some when we sit!!” Eddie drags you forward, as the person at the counter offers to serve you your preferred ice cream.
You watch as Eddie gets a medium strawberry ice cream. And then you order a medium strawberry cheesecake. And Eddie moves you two up to the register. You offer to pay, but no. Eddie demands that he pay, and how can you say no to free ice cream. So he separates your hands to fish out his wallet and pays. You two take your ice cream and Eddie’s leading you two outside to the metal tables and chairs, a hand on your lower back as your two own are preoccupied with not dropping your ice cream, courtesy of your lovely, as many called them, “butter fingers.”
You sit down a couple tables away from the entrance, hopefully to not be bothered by any passerbys. The metal chair is cold against the skin that’s exposed due to your shorts, but your warmed by the Indiana summer sun.
“How’s your ice cream?” Eddie asks, already a bite of his strawberry in his mouth.
You swallow, “It’s-“
You’re interrupted. A hand slams on the table, and an arm clad in a leathery green. You follow it up to a man wearing a white letterman with green sleeves. He’s giving you a smile, kind but there’s something underneath.
You only return with furrowed eyebrows.
“Haven’t seen you around here before?” The strange man says. “This freak isn’t bothering you, is he?”
Your expression changes quickly from confusion and a little bit of anger to complete surprise, “Freak???”
“You new in town, or something?” The man asks.
You avoid his question, “Who are you calling a freak?? Who even are you?”
“Jason,” He says. “Jason Carver. Hawkins High star basketball player.”
And he moves to hold out a hand.
“I’m not touching that,” The man’s expression falls. “Have you even graduated, kid?”
He looks younger than you.
“K-kid?” He sputters. “I-I’ve graduated! Just this last year!! And you shouldn’t be hanging out with the town freak. It took him three senior years to graduate! It took me one!!”
“I’m aware…,” Man. It seems like you pinched a nerve.
“Don’t you wanna get away from this freak? If your visiting I can help you find your friends, take you back to them,” He’s calmed down, but you can tell his patience is growing thin.
“I am with my friend, thank you very much,” You tell him, furrowing your brows and staring him down. “Can I get back to my ice cream? I’d like to eat it before it melts.”
“Well-I-uh-“ He sputters.
“Away, kid,” You tell him, like he’s just some bothersome kid. Well in your mind, he is. “I wanna eat my ice cream and talk to my friend.”
The “Jason Carver” kid only stared at you before turning tail. And you don’t care where he disappears to, turning back to Eddie.
He’s looking at you in shock and admiration, and possibly something else. Spoon in hand, ice cream dripping from the color changing spoon back into his cup.
“Your ice cream is melting,” You tell Eddie, taking another bite of yours. “What was your question?”
“Oh! Uh… I was wondering if your ice cream tasted good?” Eddie stuttered, scooping up another, unmelted bite of his ice cream.
“It does!” You tell him after swallowing your bite. “You wanna try?”
“Sure!” Eddie says. “Wanna try some of mine?”
“Yeah!”
You two trade ice cream, taking a spoonful of his strawberry. It tastes good!! And it has strawberry chunks in it. You’ll have to get this next time you two come.
Both of you continue to eat your own ice cream, and when you’re done, Eddie leads you back to his van and starts it up. He shows you all around town, the police station, the fire station (they were right next to each other), the post office, the high school where he went, the guitar store-
“I’ll take you there later,” Eddie tells you.
-A movie rental store called “Family Store” where two of Eddie’s friends worked, and the record store he frequented.
“C’mon,” He parked out front of said record store. “They’ve got some cassettes in here too.”
The person at the counter greets Eddie by name, Eddie’s waves back. You follow your buddy around the store, not holding hands this time. You catch a glimpse of his music taste, it’s more on the metal side with a couple rock albums shuffled in there. Eddie says you can go pick out some if you want, and that’s when you separate from him the first time today, but still keeping him in your line of sight.
After probably about half an hour in the store, you’ve wondered back to Eddie with two cassettes in hand.
“Ready?”
“Yeah.”
And he leads you to the register at the front, paying for your cassettes. And once your back in his van and it’s started up-
“Alright, pretty lady,” Eddie’s back out of the parking spot. “Put one of yours in.”
It takes you a view seconds to respond due to the newest petname he’s used on you, “O-okay.”
You pick out your newest Kiss album and slip it into the slot just below his radio. The music starts up and you listen to it as Eddie continued showing you around town, showing you some quiet spots he knows about. He even takes you by Jason Carver’s, or “The Kid”, as Eddie now calls him, house. He tells you he likes to tp it on Halloween when he’s away partying. Or even while the party’s happening at his house. He’s never known, and it’s gonna stay that way.
Just as the sun starts to set, Eddie takes you two back to his place. He takes the cassettes and opens the door for him.
“I’m gonna take a shower but my uncle is home, so you two can meet and bond,” Eddie tells you, gesturing for you to go in before him.
You see an older, balding man on the couch watching tv. He looks up as you and Eddie come inside.
“Wayne, this is Y/n,” Eddie introduces. “And Y/n, this is my Uncle Wayne Munson.”
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Munson,” You wave shyly.
“Please kid,” Wayne laughs a bit. “Just Wayne.”
“Alright,” Eddie gives you a single pat on the shoulder. “I’ll put these in my room and I’m gonna take my shower since I have work tomorrow, but you two can bond while I do that.”
You sit by Wayne on the couch, tv on in the background. You two bond the entire time Eddie’s in the shower. You tell him where you live, about your family, and the school you graduated from. And when he asks, you tell him where you and Eddie met, and then you go on a little spiel about your band. In turn, Wayne tells you about himself and where he works, and then about Eddie and how he became he guardian, and then a little bit about Eddie’s parents. You’re glad that Eddie lives with Wayne, because his parents don’t sound too great.
Before you two know it, thirty minutes have passed and Eddie’s coming out of the shower, steam spilling from the open bathroom door. His hair is wet and his curls aren’t so messy, like he just got done brushing it. And he’s wearing sweatpants, but… but no shirt.
Wayne’s smiling as he sees you ogling his nephew. He doesn’t mind. You seem like a nice girl.
Eddie saunters over and plops himself behind you. He leans his head onto your shoulder and wraps his arms around your waist.
“Don’t stop on my account,” Eddie mutters into your shoulder.
You can’t help but blush at the close contact, and him being shirtless, and the fact that you can smell his strawberry scented whatever he used in the shower. He’s completely void of his usual cigarette-weed-cheap cologne smell that you’ve grown used to.
So, you and Wayne keep talking, keeping it Eddie friendly so you don’t accidentally trigger anything from his past that may affect him in any way. Eventually, Wayne heads to bed, offering you two to stay up as long as you want and to watch tv as well. He bids you two goodnight, and you as well to him.
Eddie and you stay in the living room for a bit, watching tv before Eddie’s yawning every five minutes.
“It’s bedtime for me, sweetheart,” Eddie’s looking at the clock on the wall before at you. “I’m gonna head to bed. You wanna stay up or come to bed?”
“I’ll come to bed,” You tell him, standing as he turns the tv off. “I’m getting a bit tired.”
“Mkay.”
You follow Eddie, wishing to grab his hand out a bit of fight-or-flight at the dark trailer once Eddie has all the lights out. But once you behind the closed door of Eddie’s room and the light is on, you’ve relaxed.
You force Eddie to turn around while you change into your pj’s from the previous night. So Eddie busies himself with getting the blankets and pillows situated, even tucking your wolf stuffed animal in while you’re getting situated.
You laugh a bit when you turn around, seeing your stuffed animal tucked in. Then you two get comfy in his bed and under his covers, you notice that Eddie’s given you another blanket, as you run cold easily.
“Goodnight Eddie,” You mumbled from the pillow you’ve chosen, laying on your side away from him.
“Goodnight, darling,” Eddie mumbles back, also facing away from you.

"I'm always happy when I have you near me, knowing that we both protecting each other !"
Chapter Summary : 3 days has passed since the terrible mission that has cost Garrett's life, Yirina is finally ready to have an talk with Song after an discussion with Park....
To read it on AO3, click here !
Words : +3600
------------------------------------------------------------------
I couldn't know more about why I wasn't talking when I was captured and why I was sometimes sick during the end of December 1980, something that is intriguing me since that memory I had with Freya. I tried with Zasha, I didn't have any responses except for an little talk with them after 2 longs days and then, I tried with Sims....same result with him, nothing that could give me an clear answer to the first question, I guess that my memory will have to work hard to discover the answers I need but it will take an lot of time.
After that talk with Sims, I did go to the dorm and finally have some sleep...an troubled one to be honest, thinking about Garrett, Song....shit, I don't know how I can make myself able to go talk with Song after today. She's probably hating me and the fact that she didn't talk to anyone like Hudson claimed, it will be very hard to me to have an discussion with her. I will do it for sure but now....it's complicated.
During the 3 following days after that terrible day, an part of the team including me, Park, Song & Woods stayed back at the base while the other part was making some travel in the jungle to clear up the remaining forces of Perseus & Naga in the region. It was at the end of that day, the 28th of May in the middle of the night....that Sims, Wolf & Rivas came back...with Garrett's body. They finally found him after days of research and when we saw him, I was nearly broke in the inside along with Park & Song....she was crying the tears of all her body when she asked everyone to leave her alone with Garrett in the medical room.
"Yiri ?" I was sit alone at my workplace when Park came back from outside after passing an call to London, calling me out in an low voice as she arrived near me.
"Yes ?" I demanded, putting my eyes away from the M1911 where the engraved bullet is still inside that mag, not having even shot with the pistol for days to look at Park.
"You might want to have some peace & an talk ?" She proposed with an small grin, gesturing in the outside, at the direction that she came.
"Yeah, it would be good for me." I replied, slowly getting up from my chair to grab my light browned military jacket and an cigarette from an pack on the desk. "Where are we going ?" I asked her.
"Somewhere quiet with some peace." She responded, repeating her words from her last sentence silently as I put on my jacket and then follow her outside. We've been doing that since 3 days now and it was good...just me & Park, trying to have some moments alone to think about the situation. "You're okay ?" She questioned, talking about my state.
"No, it will take time." I answered, still thinking about the mission and by looking at Park, it was the same thing for her. We finally stopped ourselves near an empty Huey, our usual talking spot. "I don't think that I will forget that easily, Garrett didn't deserve that." I added, once fully stopped.
"I know, me too." Park breathed before sitting down on the ground with her. "I managed to call London." She started after we got sit.
"You called the director ?" She nodded to my question, biting her lips.
"I had to tell him of what happened clearly." She said, crossing her arms and looking down at her feets. "His body will get send back to London." She continued in an sad tone. Manchester was where Garrett was born
"Does he have any family ?" I demanded as I didn't know about this but she shook her head.
"He had one but...." She snorted, sounding like an hard subject to talk. "His parents died during the Troubles in Northen Ireland and his sister...she's part of the IRA." She added, making my eyes goes wide.
"Garrett was Irish ?" I whispered, sounding an bit stunned.
"He was born in Manchester but an large part of his life, he lived it in Belfast, his parents were Irish." She explained to me, slowly pulling her head up to look at me, sad. "His parents only wanted an good life for him but they died in 1974, his sister has decided to join the IRA ranks while him....he fled Belfast to get to London."
"And he joined the MI6." I expressed discreetly, biting the left part of my lips followed by an nodding from Park. "I never thought that Garrett was in fact an Irish." I exclaimed, still surprised by that news.
"It's something that he wasn't so public about." Park stated to me, looking around. "He didn't want to be considered as an Irish and for him, his true links are in England." She grinned an little about it, an grin of sadness. "Even with where his sister is now, the MI6 will told her about it."
"Of course, she had to know even if she's working with the IRA." I affirmed, knowing that family is something to count on even if we're in cold with someone in it. "Did you work against the IRA ?" I demanded to Park, curious about it.
"No, I was more focused on what was happening around the world but I did never wanted to get myself involved with them." She replied, sounding sure of her words. "Even if I believed first that the IRA killed my brother, things weren't normal."
"If only I was able to avoid that to happen...." I breathed away, thinking about that day before Park put her left hand on my lap as I was sit just next to her.
"It wasn't your fault." She told me in an low voice, wanting to reassure me. "You tried to help him to know the truth."
"Yeah...the truth." I repeated this word, meaning an lot as I was really trying to help her brother William to arrest Stone and maybe reveal Perseus's threat long before.  "Things could have been different but here we are." I spoke up, looking at the direction of the hangar. "Trying to find the man who fucked up with my brain while hoping that Naga will talk." I added. We couldn't interrogate Naga until he was properly healed and it was only today that we could know if he's going to do it.
"Me...you...Woods & some others, no one want to put their lives on the line to save Adler but we have no choice." She stated surely, giving her thoughts that we share. "And if we don't, like Woods said, we will be all speaking russian." She continued, sounding like an joke but her voice wasn't following that thought.
"To say that this fight against Perseus could have been done if Adler wasn't so stubborn." I confirmed that to Park who nodded sadly, probably thinking of the 3 years I spent in an coma. "What can I say now ? I'm back, still struggling to not getting killed by Perseus or the CIA." I said before slowly starting to get up, back on my feets.
"You think that you're ready to talk to Song ?" Park questioned me, also getting up, an question that she's asking each time we end those moments.
"Yeah, I think I am." I responded, changing from the last answers I gave to her.
"You don't want to wait or you're sure to do that now ?" She questioned me again.
"It's better that I do that now." I breathed, joining my hands with Park for an second, looking at them with good eyes. "I will do it alone." I claimed even if Park said that she was always here to help me in case. "If I need you, I will ask you."I added before I did an kiss on her lips that lasted only an little second.
"Thanks." She whispered before we start to get away from the spot to return back inside the hangar.
As Park was going to take an shower near the dorm, I came back to my workplace, hoping to see Song at the moment but she was still inside the medical room with Garrett as the others said to me and advicing me to wait until she came back into the main room but she wasn't coming back after waiting almost 10 minutes, everyone going to sleep as Park came back at the workplace, awaiting for Song too.
I didn't want to wait too much so I decide to go to the medical room without listening to the others advices, taking my M1911 with me and letting Park alone as I requested from her. Passing through the door leading to the medical room was very hard for me to do, fearing to be greeted by something not nice but instead, nothing happened when I slowly entered the room and then, I saw her.
She was sit on an chair near an bed where Garrett body has been put in for the moment until he got transported to the UK. She had her hands all around Garrett left one, looking at him with sadness. On his face, he was also smiling too....he left his world, smiling....thinking maybe about Song.
"Song ?" I started in an low voice, slowly walking to get next to her, not wanting to erupt brutally.
"Go away." She ordered in an silent voice despite the words used. It was her first words she did pronounce in 3 days and....it was weird. "I want to be alone with him." She exclaimed, her look still on him.
"I know, Song but can we talk ?" I demanded, now not sure at all about actually talking after seeing her like that. "It's maybe not the time but I think I need to do this." I continued, causing her to look at me.
"You want to talk ?" She told me in an normal voice, holding Garrett's hand in hers as I nodded to her. "Park told me what happened." She said as Park actually tried last day to talk with her with no avail. "I'm not angry anymore."
"You're not angry against me ?" I expressed, sounding confused.
"Not anymore." She repeated, looking back at Garrett. "I know that Park always say the truth and what she said about you, I know it's the truth." She continued, me keeping an straight face, fearing her reaction if I smile...something that I wasn't really able to do since 3 days. "You're an good person, Grigoriev."
"Thanks." I breathed, finally getting next to Song and looking at Garrett with an little grin of sadness. "I'm sorry, Song." I apologized, putting my left hand on her shoulder.
"It wasn't your fault." She whispered before she put her hand in her jacket to grab something inside. "Something you might want to know." She added, handing to me an single black picture.
"What's this ?" I asked, trying to figure out what was this black picture until I realized...."No, don't tell me...." I stopped myself, fully realizing the meaning of that picture.
"It's been 3 months now." She responded, putting her right hand on her chest....she was pregnant...and Garrett was the father. "I was going to tell him after the mission." She explained as I was giving back the picture, stunned by that revelation. "It was....one of his dream to be an father." She continued, her eyes looking at me.
"Really ?" I chuckled and she nodded.
"Yeah but now....my child is going to grow up without an father." She muttered, her voice filled with sadness. "I can't tell anyone about this."
"Song." I started, moving to get at her level next to her, wrapping my hands around the one she had on her chest. "You can trust me & Park, we can help you." I admitted.
"I know." She smiled at me, looking at my hands. "You're my friends, I'm trusting you." She confirmed before her eyes was looking at the door direction. "To say that the man who is responsible for his death is in this very building." She thought.
"You wanted me to pull the trigger but I couldn't." I started to get my M1911 to remove the engraved bullet from the chamber to show it to Song. "This bullet....it was supposed to kill him...for Garrett." I showed her the bullet and Naga's name on it. "I will keep it until I do it." I said before I pulled back the bullet into the mag.
"I heard that he's in the interrogation room with Hudson." Song told me, immediately knowing what she wanted to do.
"You want to go with me in that room." I nodded at her, making her sure that I knew of her intentions. "I'm waiting for you with Park at the door." I added before I got up to stand, slowly moving away from Song & Garrett.
"Good night, Garrett." Song snorted as I saw her moving to pull an little kiss on Garrett's forehead before she start to follow me outside.
It was hard for her to actually leave that room and Garrett but now knowing that we are going to get to see Naga at his interrogation room, I was maybe ready to actually did what I wasn't able to do days ago. Of course, I told Park about our moves and she agreed to follow us but I didn't tell about Song's pregnancy, thinking that it would be better for her that Song reveal that to her directly instead by me.
The interrogation room wasn't so far from the dorm and when we entered it, we could see Hudson, walking around Naga who was tied up in an chair, an bandage covering his left arm after I cut off his hand and an lot of dressings on his face. Like the man who was tortured by Wolf, Woods & Rivas, Naga was almost naked, only wearing an pair of boxers, not even socks.
"You're here to interrogate him ?" Hudson demanded, seeing the three of us arrive in the room and stopping to move before getting leaned against an wall.
"Did he say anything ?" I asked him, not even responding to his rhetorical question.
"No, he's been inconscious after Woods came in to talk." He replied, gesturing to look at the cuts that Naga has on his legs. "Here's the tools if you need to." He pointed at us an table filled with said 'tools' : wrench, an big car battery, etc....
"You used them ?" Park questioned Hudson, moving to get next to the table.
"No, we wait that Naga's fully operational until we can use them." He responded, crossing his arms as I was looking back at the table, Song stayed behind.
"Park, give me those two metal stems." I pointed at her next to the battery. Torture was disgusting me but...when someone is hurting my friends...I have no choices.
"What are you planning ?" She demanded as she gave me the stems anyway in my hands.
"Something electric." I answered, sounding mostly angry in the inside, not even making an laugh of it. "Hey, you awake ?" I started to slap Naga's face, wanting to awake him up from his sleep.
"Uh ?" He muttered, slowly waking up.
"I need you to stay focused !" I exclaimed before I literally planted the two metal stems in his respectives kneecaps, causing him to scream painfully as Song closed the door to muffle his attempts to scream more.
"That's brutal from you." Hudson told me.
"I didn't ask for your opinion." I looked at him with deadly eyes, my rage fuelling up before looking back at Naga. "Fully awake ?"
"Fuck you !" He cursed, fighting the pain of having two metal stems in his legs as Park moved the car battery next to Naga, having realized my plans with Naga : torture by electrocution. She put the battery cables on the stems, ready to activate the battery.
"It isn't going to help you if you don't talk." I affirmed to him, putting my hands on his arms, holding them firmly in my hands. "Now...tell us where did Stitch has taken Adler ?" I asked him but the only thing he did was to spit on my face.
"Do it !" Song ordered in an low voice and I nodded to Park, not before putting an tissue inside Naga's mouth, avoiding him to fully scream. She activate the battery, causing Naga to look at the ceilling, receiving an lot of electricity inside his body as me, Park, Song & Hudson was looking at him. I was slighlty disturbed by my own actions to torture but Naga killed an friend....
"It's good ?" I gestured at Park to stop, removing the tissue from his mouth.
"Better to start talking, Naga." Hudson suggested, still in the same position and taking an deep breath.
"I ain't saying anything." Naga admitted before spitting again on my face, causing me to clean up my face and putting back the tissue in his mouth.
"Again." Song told Park who activate the battery again and making me Naga scream, muffled by the tissue. This time, we let him getting electrocuted for almost an minute. "I think it will talk now." She added.
"You can stop now." I said to Park who stopped the battery.
"So, Naga, willing to talk ?" Park questioned him, her hands ready to activate the battery in case an bad answer from him.
"I know....I know...." He whispered, struggling with the shock he has received in an short time.
"What do you know ?" Song asked him, walking next to me, her voice very dark & serious.
"I can tell....where Stitch has taken Adler...." He started, half-opening his eyes and sweating on all his body. "Kas....Kastovia....he took him to...Kastovia." He gave us an answer.
"Kastovia ?" I muttered.
"It's an small socialist republic in the Soviet Union near the Georgian SSR." Hudson explained to me, giving me more intels about what was this Kastovia. "It's an perfect place for Stitch to hide but now is to know where exactly."
"Where's Stitch, Naga ?" Park threatened him, making him look at her hands, posed on the battery, precisely on the switch
"I don't know." He breathed.
"Do it again." Song ordered, causing me to pull back the tissue.
"Verdansk !" Naga shouted before I could pull the tissue in his mouth, stopping me in my moves.
"You're saying that Stitch has taken Adler in the Kastovian capital ?" Hudson expressed, sounding astonished to hear that from Naga like us. "Damnit, something must be happening in Verdansk."
"And what now ?" Song demanded to Hudson.
"We will make an briefing tomorrow with Naga's new intels and to see if the crews in the field find something about it." He replied, moving away from the wall to grab an pack of cigarettes from his jacket. "For now, Naga's gonna stay here until further notice." He added before he start to go away but then....he grabbed my right.
"What do you want ?" I asked him silently, making some steps back as Park & Song were watching Naga.
"Officialy, the CIA want me to make Naga an informant about the Golden Triangle but...." He stopped himself to look at Naga. "I'll cover you three, you can do it, I will keep my eyes shut." He continued before releasing me and walking out of the room....did he really approved of letting us do what's needs to be done ?
"Song." I whispered as I took off my M1911 of my holstler, checking if the engraved bullet was in the chamber.
'Yes ?" She demanded, looking at me.
"I think that...you should be the one to pull the trigger." I replied, handing over my M1911 to her, she was the one who has to do it...I've been thinking of this since the whole torturing session.
"I don't know..."
"Trust me." I cut her gently, still handing the gun to her.
"Song, you're the one to do it." Park affirmed, giving some hope to Song as she finally took the gun from my hands.
"Hey, I made an deal with Hudson !" Naga protested with us but that wasn't avoiding Song to point my gun to him. "You will have big problems, girls !"
"We know." I told him, crossing my arms.
"That's for Garrett !" Song expressed in an rage before closing her eyes.
"Wait...." Naga pleaded but it was too late...as Song pulled the trigger of my M1911 and the engraved bullet flied straight to his head, hitting him right between the two eyes and his body went limp.....he was finally dead.
"That's for Garrett." Song repeated again before she turned around to face me to give me back my pistol. "Thanks, Grigoriev, you really have an good spirit in you." She confessed as I took back my pistol before she start to slowly walk away from the room, leaving me & Park with Naga's dead body.
"She's saying the truth, you have an wonderful spirit." Park added to Song's statement, putting her hands above my heart. "An fighting spirit." She exclaimed as I was pulling my M1911 in its holstler.
"Thanks...I did what was need to be done, Song was the one who needed to pull the trigger." I told her, looking away at the opened door and thinking of an lot of things right now. "It wasn't going to bring him back but now...he could rest in peace, knowing the man responsible is dead." I confirmed, taking back the same words I remember days ago before going into Laos.
"I'm proud of you like always, Yiri." Park affirmed to me as we started to walk away from the room, leaving Naga's body in here before closing the door behind me as Park was grinning at my side.....
"I'm sure that he's proud of you....you did really good."

Ben had stayed at James a few hours longer than expected, they had played video games in all that time no longer touching the topic 'best friend dating sister'. When he was about to leave, he just looked at him whispering, "Talk to her, okay?" before he closed the door behind him.
Yet when he got back to her place, there was no sign of Liv. No messages on his phone, after checking it, no calls.
He tries to call her but she doesn't answer, and something starts to build up inside him. What if she realized she made a mistake with him and stayed with Jack? No, that's not possible. She's not like that. She would have told him before she left.
But just as he's about to put everything aside and call Jack - though he probably wouldn't have answered, or taken advantage of the call to remind him that the girl is his - the door opens and a babbling Liv comes in.
"Three hours to go 10 kilometers, unbelievable!" she mutters frowning, picking at her bag, laying it on the ground with a loud thud.
He giggles and only then she seems to become aware of his presence.
"Ben, hey. What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for you, what took you so long?" the boy tries his best not to sound too pushy.
"They were doing some work on the road, which led to a rear-end collision. You thought I'd stayed at Jack's?!" she teases him, but he looks down guilty and Liv stops dead in her tracks, looking surprised.
"I can't believe it"
"I'm sorry, okay? It wasn't the first thing that crossed my mind if you wanna know the truth, I swear, but you weren't answering your phone and-"
"And you thought I was fucking him, great" she states sarcastically, rolling her eyes before turning her back and heading into the kitchen.
"I thought you realized he was better than me, not that you were sleeping with him" he points out following her as if the situation wasn't bad enough already.
"What kind of world do you live in? I could never do that to you"
"I know, and I feel guilty enough about letting myself think that, okay? Please don't be mad" he begs her as he approaches.
"I went to talk to James" seeing she's not talking, Ben decides to break the silence with something else. Hoping that this gesture would somehow wipe the previous moment from her mind.
"You did... WHAT?" her pitch voice makes him laugh.
"I saw how upset you are about this whole thing and I wanted to help. He's still one of my closest friends after all and we hadn't had any conversations about it" Ben admits looking at her.
"What did he say?" Liv's almost afraid to ask, she's still trying to get her brain to see that someone did something nice... for her.
"I'm-I'm not so sure about that actually. I told him that I fell in love with you and he asked me to play FIFA but-" he starts babbling non-stop before being interrupted by her choked voice.
"Are you in love with me?"
"Yes, Liv. This whole mess with your brother wouldn't have happened if I didn't have feelings for you, would it?" he reflects.
"You have feelings for me and you still thought I might be with Jack?"
"I told you bef-" but the guy gets interrupted again, this time by a pair of lips resting on his. In Liv's head there is chaos, in such a short time she had received so much information that she thinks her head is about to burst for real.
"Relax, I'm just kidding, Jack is a closed book forever now. I'm in love with someone else" she smiles tenderly to him, seeing something shines in his eyes.
"Oh yeah? Do I know him?"
"Maybe" she shrugs, "he's a little dumb sometimes but he's cute"
Time passes relentlessly and everyone goes on with their lives. Liv and Ben are good together, now almost everyone assumes there's something between them even if there's no official confirmation yet. The two are enjoying the moment now that things seem to be almost back to normal and it doesn't matter what the others think.
Many times they slept with each other, there hadn't been a time since they had said love you to each other in which they slept apart - if you don't count Ben's away games. They had entered a routine where only one fundamentale piece was missing. James.
“Are you sure you want to come?”
“Of course. It’s the last game of the season. I have never missed any game that finishes the season”
“Real supporter over here. I like that.” Ben laughs while sitting down on the sofa to put on his sneakers. “Then I will see you at the stadium later the evening.”
“For sure.” Liv smiles. “I am glad everything is sorted between you and James. I am sure James will forgive me when he realises I am back at the games supporting for him.”
“Don’t be so sure, but yeah.” Ben answers while getting up from the sofa. “I should go. But will meet you later okay.”
“Yes. You already said that.” Liv laughs when Ben repeats himself. And after kissing each other goodbye repeatedly Ben’s finally able to leave, hoping he won’t arrive late to the stadium as he already had some fines behind his name ever since he and Liv started dating.
And so, Liv was left alone at Ben's place till the evening, some hours to pass till she could leave to the stadium. Liv was nervous to say the least, even though James and her had sending texts messages again, liked and commented on each other’s pictures, she was still nervous to meet him again, and talk with him like they used to.
Liv had spent her day by doing some research work on yet another collab with a very famous company. Ever since Liv started working together with the clothing company, her following had been growing to crazy numbers and she finally started to achieve something on her own. But maybe the fact she had posted pictures with Ben, tagging the brand, had something to do it as well, but she didn’t mind if that was indeed the fact.
The atmosphere around and inside the stadium was something Liv had missed the few passed weeks. She hadn’t been to any games anymore ever since her and James got into the fight. Liv arrives at the back of the stadium as she usually did since James got her a VIP pass for the staff and member parking, so he knew she got in the stadium safely.
“Ohh miss Maddison, long time no see.” Liv smiles to the person being in charge of the parking place, nodding when he told her where she could park her car. She gets inside of the stadium pretty quickly after she parked, using the jacket to hide the blue shirt she's wearing and only showing the home team logo.
The whole car ride Liv had questioned herself if she would be allowed to head down the tunnel to show her support to her brother, and of course her boyfriend. Since she hasn’t been down there for a while, she wasn’t feeling that welcome anymore. The previous year she had done it without any problems and so she started to go without thinking about it, but then she thought it would be better to be seen only at the end and she had reached her place right away.
James's sure to hallucinate when he sees her in the crowd, a smile comes spontaneously on his lips before seeing her turn around and so something inside him breaks.
Ben also follows the scene and decides not to say anything else, placing a hand on his friend's shoulder and taking him to the locker room.
The game went great, James ended the season with a goal and Liv couldn't be prouder.
When she walks onto the field, still a little afraid to meet her brother, the jacket hangs on her arm. It was too hot to hold it up while she jumped up happy for the team's victory, so now the shirt was free to show the name she had chosen to wear.
For a while she had been hesitant whether to wear it or not. James or Ben. But then she'd thought about it, she had both jerseys for obvious reasons but as she used to say-
"Brother always beats boyfriend" a voice behind her makes her turn, James is in front of her with a slight smile on his face.
“Yeah” Liv whispers smiling back at him.
"My friend did a good thing, I have to admit it" says the boy as she looks at him confused. "He made you come to a game with a smile on your face"
She doesn't take much longer to wrap her arms around her brother's neck, closing her eyes when she feels his arms wrapped around her waist.
Another smile from James when they split up, "Go, he deserves some human warmth after all"
Liv quickly turns around seeing Ben out of the corner of her eye a few steps away from them and then makes a disgusting fake grimace at James, "You suck"
The smile on her face and the scene he witnessed, make a big smile appear on Ben's face second only to his girlfriend one.
"Should I be disappointed you chose your brother over me?" he jokes as she gets up on her toes to give him a sweet kiss on the lips.
"Never"
So the guys thank the fans all together, wasting time chatting with the others and greeting everyone as if they didn't have some holiday planned together or whatever.
“Maddisons, pizza all together tonight?” Ben asks the two who are talking about something he can’t catch at the moment. “I swear I’ll keep my hands off both of you” a cheeky smile on his face as Liv chuckles and James rolls his eyes to the sky.
“Why him seriously!”
And so, they all three end up at a small pizza place in the middle of town, a small table filled with different pizza slices. The three of them having the time of their lives, totally forgotten about the fuss that had been happening over the past few weeks. Liv and James finally having their brother and sister bond back, the relationship between Ben and Liv being accepted, Liv being over the moon to finally be able to spend time with the two boys that mean the world to her.

Personal Ghosts || Dick Grayson x Reader (part 7)
Prev. || Next
Masterlist
Description: After solving the murder of her little sister at the age of 15, Y/N moved to Bludhaven to leave her Gotham life, and memories of the murder behind. Now a detective of the Bludhaven Police Department, with Dick Grayson as her partner, Y/N thinks that she has escaped her past. But when a toddler gets murdered, Y/N finds out that the murderer has returned and is after revenge on the young cop.
Words: 2.4k
A/N: yikes okay so it has been nearly a year since the last chapter, and I don’t really have any excuses outside of procrastination. Anyway thank you to those who have bared with me. I’ve also change from present tense to past tense, and the “reader” is now a detective. I also nearly replaced the name “James” with the real name of the person I’m based James’ personality off
“I forgot how pretty some of the places in this city are.” You pulled your jacket closer to you trying to fight against some of the wind blowing through Gotham Central Park, cup of cheap coffee held close.
“I’m sure Bludhaven is better.” James nudged you with his elbow and you let out a breathy laugh.
“I mean it’s cleaner but you know what they say,” you paused and throwing your arms out in a sarcastic dramatic fashion, “there’s no place like home.” James turned around, noticing you no longer by his side, and just laughed at you. And seeing him just laughing, carefree and happy, you joined in trying to capture some of his happy bliss. You let yourself laugh and for a brief moment, you forgot why you were home and everything else that was going bad in your life, and just laughed. You were so lost in the pure joy that you don’t notice James had moved closer until he pulled you into his arms and was laughing with you into your ear.
“I’m glad you’re home. Even if it’s just for a little bit.”
“Alright, alright,” you shoved him off with your shoulder, “enough with the sappy shit, I wanna get one of Donny’s food truck burritos before he runs out of actual burritos.”
--
A day spent laughing, talking about new and old memories, and wandering around what is considered to be the beautiful parts of Gotham, all with the backdrop of cars and the occasional gunshot. As much as you fought against it in the beginning, you were glad that James had forced you out of the house. Working as a detective was stressful enough as it was, but with your father out, stress was at an overwhelming level that you didn’t know it had reached until you were sitting on the roof of James’ apartment building, eating fries and watching the sun set. It was in that moment when you realised that as the city was settling that the weight you had pretended not to carry finally hit you.
And that weight, and realisation, was what left you crying, sobbing really, into the evening air.
“Hey.” Just as you finished the last couple of fries, James’ voice sounded from behind you. Hastily, you tried wiping the tear tracks off your face, hoping your eyes weren’t too red. Apparently, though, you weren’t quick enough and he saw the frantic wiping as he sat beside you. “You okay?”
“Yeah.” The scratch left in your throat from the crying was clear in your voice, and you realised that even without the red eyes, he would have known. “Okay, no. But hey, a good cry never hurt anyone.” As you spoke, you leaned into him, head on his shoulder. “‘M tired now though.” The sentence ended with a breathy laugh, exhausted and broken.
“You wanna go inside then.” He wrapped his arm around your shoulder, head on top of your own. You shook your head in response, wanting to stay out in the cool air, the brief moments that Gotham had before nightlife crawled back out to play.
“I like the brief moments of peace that Gotham has.” He hummed in response. “Before the gunshots begin again of course.” As if on queue, a distant echo of a gunshot, many blocks away, reached you.
“It’s gonna get cold soon.” His voice was soft as he reminded you that Gotham temperature drops quickly.
“I wanna wait for the Bat-signal to light up, haven’t seen it in a while.” He hummed again, squeezing your shoulder.
Once the cloudy sky had been lit up with the bat-signal for the night, James had offered his hand to help you up before you both made it back inside his apartment, splitting ways for the night, where he promised to leave you to tracking down old files on your father for the rest of the week.
--
Another early morning and another pile of files. Phone pressed to your ear as you called Arkham after waiting hours for the line to open, seeing if you could pick up your father’s files from the time he was there. You were getting to the point where your anger was about to bubble over.
“The files are classified.” Was the first thing the bored woman on the other side of the phone said. “You can’t just be given files on an escaped prisoner. It’s a GCPD issue now. Ask them.” You argued with her back and forth but she wasn’t having it. On top of the anger growing, the idea of breaking in and stealing the files was becoming rather appealing.
“Fuck it.” Was the last thing you muttered before hanging up on her. “Fucking useless.”
A mug of coffee was silently passed to you by James before he said goodbye, rushing out the apartment door.
You sipped the coffee as you dialled the number for the GCPD, hoping that they could help and you wouldn’t have to resort to B&E.
“GCDP, how can I help?” A less-bored sounding male spoke.
“Hi, I’m Detective L/N with the Bludhaven PD, I’m working the Dale L/N case. He recently broke out of Arkham and murdered multiple toddlers and their families in Bludhaven?” You tried keeping your voice authoritative, but the previous call had tired you out and gotten on your nerves. “I was wondering if I could visit the station later today and pick up some files that could help with my investigation.”
“Of course. I’ll let the Captain know and put the files aside for you.” You very nearly fist-pumped into the air, glad that it went so smoothly and that maybe, just maybe, you would start actually getting somewhere in the investigation.
“Thank you so much. I’ll be there at around 10.”
“See you then, Detective.”
Throwing back the end of your coffee, you raced to have a shower and get ready.
--
“Excuse me? I’m Detective L/N. I spoke to someone over the phone earlier today about possibly collecting some files on an open investigation.” You held your badge out to show the young-looking officer sat behind the tall counter.
“Oh yes,” he looked at your badge then up at your face quickly, “that was me. The captain has the files on her desk. Just one minute.” He turned away from you, pressing a number as he picked up the phone. “The Detective from Bludhaven PD is here to see you.” He glanced back at you. “Okay, I’ll send her in.” Placing the phone down, he handed you a visitor pass and pen before turning back to his computer.
Walking through GCPD again was a strange feeling. The first time you had been there, you were with your mother and were filing the official police report about your sister’s death. The last time was when you were getting reprimanded and thanked for hunting down the evidence to get your father arrested. Between then had been countless visits with your mother, sometimes crying, sometimes not.
It had been years, and despite the fact that you were now in the police force yourself, you felt like a child again. And that was the strange feeling. It was the feeling that even though you had grown up, matured, gotten a career, in the GCPD you still felt like a child.
You only had to knock on the captain’s door twice before she called out for you to enter.
The woman sitting at the desk filled the room with an air of authority that you were used to from your own captain. Her dark hair was pulled tightly back with only a couple of grey strands visible. She gestured with a single finger to sit in one of the dark leather chairs sitting on the opposite side of the desk to herself, not looking up from her computer. You did as she instructed and waited, listening to the rapid clicking of her keyboard. You glanced around her office, out the window, at your phone. Anything to pass the time and keep your eyes off the stack of files and paperwork on her desk.
“So, Detective L/N,” her voice startled you and your eyes darted back from out the window to her stern face. “You are one of the leads on the L/N case in Bludhaven?”
“Yes, Ma’am.” Silently, you hoped that she wouldn’t notice ask about you sharing the same surname. “My partner is still in Bludhaven, but I’m here to see if I can collect any information you have still on file about the case.”
“Of course.” A small smile crosser her face and you couldn’t tell if it was simply polite or if it was something else. “I just have a couple of questions.” That simple sentence told you that, no, the smile wasn’t just to be polite, it was to draw you into a sense of security.
“Anything, Ma’am.” You gave a tight smile back, knowing that she was about to ask, just as your captain did, if you were too personally involved in this case.
“Are you the same Y/N L/N that initially collected the evidence against Dale L/N for murdering his young daughter?” Despite the cold expression she kept, her tone sounded as if she was impressed.
“Yes, I am, Ma’am.” You were only given a nod in response. “Is that a problem?” Shuffling uncomfortably, you watched her sit back in her tall chair as she eyed you.
“No problem, Detective.” Although you tried not to, you eyed her slightly. “I spoke to your captain before you arrived. He doesn’t think you should be working this case, thinks it’s too personal.”
“I know, Ma’am. He told me that himself.” You knew it was bad to interrupt her, but you were still apparently ready to fight after this morning.
“I am aware, Detective. He told me.” Her eyes narrowed at you slightly, warning you. “However, I told him that you are an adult and capable of separating work from personal life. And that you had done this before when you were a child.” While making her mini-speech, she had lent back to rest her elbows on the desk.
“Thank you, Ma’am.” You were thankful that the GCPD captain had vouched for you with your own captain.
“I was one of the detectives working that case, if you were wondering why I agreed to you taking these files and disagreeing with your captain’s want for you to be off the case.” You felt your eyes widen and your jaw drop slowly. All the captain did in response was let out a small chuckle. “Your evidence helped us close the case. And I would like you to be able to do it again. This time as a cop, not a child.”
“I- uh. Thank you, Captain.” Lifting a hand, she placed it on a 3-inch high pile of paper.
“This is all the files we could pull from the archive that we have here, and this,” she picked up a single piece of paper off the top of the pile, handing it to you “is the form you will need to take into Arkham to go through their archives and to take any files you need.” She then turned her chair slightly and picked up a plastic briefcase from behind her desk. You watched as she placed all the paperwork into the case.
“Thank you, again, Captain.” You stood, shaking her hand as she passed over the case.
“Not a problem, Detective.” You walked towards the door, case in hand. “Good luck catching your father.” You stuttered to a halt, empty hand halfway to the door handle. You nodded before turning the handle, exiting the office.
--
Before looking through the files or heading back to James’, you drove to Arkham. The drive led you through to the outskirts of Gotham, where the trees were dying and the buildings empty. All of Gotham was dangerous, but living within two blocks of the asylum was suicidal, signing your own death certificate.
But when you finally arrived, after five or six security checks, you made it to the front desk of Arkham.
“Excuse me?” The woman who had previously been facing away slowly turned in her chair to face you through the glass screen.
“Yes.” Even though her voice was no longer through a phone, the drawl was the same. Your fists flexed open and closed as you tried keeping the anger at this woman held down.
“I’m Detective L/N with the Bludhaven PD.”
“Yeah, I remember you.” Her eyes rolled, which caused you to pull the folded page from your pocket and slam it onto the counter.
“Captain Carter from the GCPD gave me this form. She said that it gives me the legal permission to look through all your archives to find and take copies of  the files I need for an on-going investigation.” She didn’t bother to look at you as she took the paper off the counter, reading through it.
“Please wait here.” Then she got up and left you standing. You stood, waiting for a few minutes, listening to the occasional crazed laughter or hazy screams that made it through the thick walls and long hallways of the asylum. This was one of the places in Gotham you had never visited. You never had reason to, and Arkham asylum was not a place visited for fun.
When she finally returned, a guard walked through the metal door to the right of the admin desk.
“This way, please, Detective.” Not once were you asked for your badge, or to hand over your gun or your phone. The only real security was the many doors that needed unlocking from the guard.
The hallways were laid out like a grid, and you were only taken through ones that skirted around the edges of the main building. When you finally stopped at a proper door and not a gate, you had been walking for over half an hour. The guard unlocked the door and opened it for you, handing you a walkie.
“Use this to let me know when you have found what you need. I will come to collect you and walk you out. There is a copier on the wall on the left, feel free to make copies of whatever you need. There is some new and blank USB’s in the top drawer below the computer beside the copier.” He then nodded and pulled the door shut, locking it. You turned and sighed, preparing you for the long search ahead.

Sebastian texted me five hours ago saying he’d be here by 6:00. It was now 8:30 and I hadn't heard peep from him. I stand in the kitchen, pacing along the length of the island. The apartment was so new to me and to be here without Sebastian, it just felt weird. My padded feet along the floor made a rhythmic sound and it kept my nerves at bay. I’m chewing my lip as my phone starts ringing and I make a bolt to it. But, of course, it isn’t Sebastian. “Hey, Chris.”
I can hear his smile on the other end. “Hello, Sunshine. How’s Seb? Is he happy to be home?”
I snort and then my stomach feels sick. “I wouldn’t know. He isn’t home yet.”
“What?” His voice rose in volume. “From your texts, he was supposed to be there by 6.”
I nod, running a hand through my hair. “Yeah, I know.” I sigh and go to speak again when the deadbolt turns. “Gotta go.”
The door swings open, revealing Sebastian coming through his bags layered all over himself, cell phone to his ear. “Yeah. I know. I’m sorry, listen-” He looks up to find me standing there, hand on my hip and a scowl on my face. “I gotta go.” He ends the phone call and licks his lips. “Hey, baby.”
I shake my head. “Where the hell have you been?”
His brow furrows. “I just got home.”
“Really? News to me. Considering the last text I got from you was almost fucking six hours ago.”
He groans, dropping the bags and stretching. “I’m sorry. We weren’t allowed to text on the flight.”
I nod. “I know that, Sebastian. What I don’t understand is why didn’t you text me between 6:00 and 8:30?”
He looks at his watch. “That much time passed. I didn’t mean to be that long.”
“What the hell happened? I was worried sick, I thought for sure that your plane had crashed or there was an abduction or-”
“Shh, it’s okay. I’m here, love, I’m right here.” He comes, wrapping his arms around me. “I’m here. I’m sorry that I didn’t text you. Anthony wanted to grab drinks bef-”
“What?” I stiffen in his grasp. “You went for drinks before coming home?”
He nods. “I didn’t think it was that big of a deal.”
I exhale deeply, my nose twitching with anger. “Sebastian. I trust you fully and I’m glad you wanted to hang out with your friends but I am your girlfriend. I thought you died. Did it not cross your mind to text me? ‘Oh yeah, I landed but I’m gonna grab a drink with Mackie before I come home’.”
He clenched his jaw. “You’re right but-”
“But what? What could you possibly add to this with a but?”
He snorts. “You want the truth? Fine. I forgot that you were here, okay?”
My jaw drops, my eyes filling with tears. I lick my lips. “You forgot I was here as in the apartment or here as in your girlfriend?”
“I couldn’t forget you’re my girlfriend, babe. I just- it slipped my mind that you had moved in a few days ago.”
I shake my head. “I can’t believe you. You ask me to move in, take off the weekend off and then fucking forget that I’m here.”
He sighs, running a hand over his tired face. “Come on, don’t be like that. I’m sorry.”
I shake my head. “Of course.” I turn away from him and strut to the bedroom, slamming the door.
Only a few minutes later, a knock on the door startles me. “It’s your bedroom, you don’t have to knock,” I mumble as I fling a blanket over my head.
The door creaks open and I sense him standing there, staring at me. Then the bed dips down from his weight. “(y/n).” I don’t answer. I can sense by his sigh that he’s getting frustrated. “(y/n).”
“What?” I groan out.
“I’m sorry that I didn’t text you and I’m sorry that I forgot you were here but you gotta understand that I'm not used to having people to come home to.” More silence from me. He sighs. “Please, just talk to me.”
I groan from under the blanket. “I thought you died.”
He chuckles and I kick his leg. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to laugh.”
I lift the blankets off of me for a moment. “I thought you were dead. I thought something terrible happened to you. Seb, you gotta understand that you’re all I got. If anything was to ever happen to you, I’d be done for.” He starts to speak. “No, just let me finish. You’re my best friend. And I gotta be honest, I’m nervous about the moving in together thing because of stuff like this. I know you didn’t do it on purpose but you scared me and you didn’t even bother to remember that I could be at home, worried sick. I love you more than you know and if you break my heart, there’s gonna have hell to pay.”
He chews his lip and sighs, thinking what I said over. “I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry that I forgot about you living here and I’m sorry that I’m a shit boyfriend at times.”
I shake my head. “No, you’re not.”
He shrugs. “I kinda am. I mean, I can get stuck in my head so much that it’s difficult to have actual conversations with me. I dive into roles so hard sometimes that it’s hard to tell reality from fictional and that’s something that my past girlfriends had a hard time understanding. They couldn’t understand my true love and passion for my work, my career.”
I nod. “I get it. You’re a passionate person, not just with work, but with other aspects of your life too. When you love, you love with your full heart and I admire that about you. You make being around you so easy and so much fun. I always feel safe with you and I know that I can go to you for anything.”
He nods his head before kissing my hair. “Thank you.” He stands and looks at me. “I guess I can’t escape your snoring now, can I?”
I scoff. “I do not snore.”
“Hmm, you do.”
I shake my head. “Well, you fart in your sleep.”
He laughs. “I do not do that.”
I snap my fingers. “Dammit, you got me there, you don’t but you do snore lightly.”
“Snore lightly. Exactly. You sound like a fucking train.”
“Rude.”
He laughs, kissing my forehead before leaving the room. “But, you’re my train.”

Life Update?
It’s been forever since I posted anything on Tumblr. Life happened, I’m sure all of you know how it is. Life aside, there has been more going on behind the scenes of my existence as a semi-functioning member of society. In addition to my resolve in pursuing higher education seriously, I have started putting some of my time into the family business in my own way.
People around me have always said it's better to keep your hobbies as hobbies and not your work. I thought I understand them then, but now I am becoming more unsure of this advice. Not because I am doing all the things I like as a job and a degree, but because I know I will not lose certain things that I like as a hobby even if I get sick of doing this particular job and degree.
I can proudly say now that I have established a social media account that is representative of my family business and heritage. Our Instagram has around 500 followers which may sound pathetic to many of you. Yet I am happy just for the fact that it exists somewhere on the internet. Not only that, we have a youtube channel and website too! The beginning was a new change for me because this is the first time I will be talking about something that is not my own creative pursuit and interests. At times, it was overwhelming and I admittedly procrastinated on this project sometimes. Fortunately, I have an admin that keeps everything running. Now that it has been present for almost a year, I can safely say that I got the hang of it, kinda.
Aside from the social media work, I completed my A-levels in the midst of the pandemic and enrolled myself in an online undergraduate program. You can say I'm an expert at this online learning thing, like other students around the world. Learning online is not easy, and if you think you can get good marks by only attending your zoom or google meeting classes, you are wrong. Just because the school system is flawed does not mean they are completely wrong you know? I got through my A-levels with the standard online learning methods. 2-4 hours of Zoom classes every other day, Google Documents homework, WhatsApp discussions, Google Forms quizzes, and a lot of Youtube binging before the big test. My A-levels weren't great, objectively, they weren't bad too. I was done and over with that and that's all that mattered to me.
My university, however, is a different kind of online learning. I actually did a short course before it started to feel out the environment. Frankly, I like this method of online learning more than the one that has been implemented by millions of schools around the world.
The short course that I took was about Intercultural Social Relationships so it was pretty light for me since I am a social being (human) and I come from a country that is socially diverse. This course was divided into 10 chapters if I am not mistaken and 2 assignments over the course of 3 months. Ideally, you should spend 2-3 hours daily on readings, discussions, and participation. Truthfully, I did like 5-7 hours a week and I turned out okay. I am not saying you should be like me, because the things I studied there were 40% the same as my English A-levels to some extent so I was kinda chill. Anyways, you get to access this website and you watch 5-10 minutes of introduction on the chapter, read some overviews and read more on the topic provided in there, then you answer quizzes sometimes through that same website and as a means of communication, there are chatrooms built into that website. It was great, I can go back and forth while studying and pick up discussions without feeling like a fool. As an added bonus, I get to read about others' responses and get feedback on my answers. The assignments were pretty different from what I have been doing in previous schools but it was a given, this is an open university course after all. I think I did pretty well, even though I don't really know what I was doing. However, I did procrastinate a lot so I ended up doing the second essay a day before the deadline. Granted, I did a pretty good job and passed the course, but it was a flawed practice lmao.
This post is getting too long so I will tell you all about how my online university works some other time. Hopefully within the next week?

Best Tinder Hookup Profile
Ever wonder who has the best Tinder profiles? What “best of Tinder” status actually looks like?
Best Hookup Bios For Tinder
Tinder Dating Site Hook Up
Best Tinder Hookup Profile Photos
Here are 3 of the top Tinderers (by likes):
Apart from The Chive, in choosing 5 best hookup Tinder strategies and statistics to get laid we used an interesting piece of advice given by successful male Tinder users on Bustle and official. The Best Tinder Bios to Get Laid. I’m going to come right out and say it; there are no best Tinder bios to get laid. Your Tinder bio is the least important facet of your profile to get laid. If you want to get laid on Tinder, you need good photos first. No matter how witty your profile description is, it won’t make up for unattractive photos.
When these 3 appeared on TV, many viewers were stunned by how ordinary they were.
I mean, they’re good-looking. BUT they’re not the hottest people you’ve ever seen. Instead, what sets them apart is they’ve mastered the art of making a killer Tinder profile. Like this one:
If you’re an average-looking guy who wants to clean up on Tinder like the best, these are the Tinder profile examples you need. Here are their secrets.
1. About Me Examples (Copy-Paste)
According to guys with the most high-performing Tinder profiles, your “about me” tagline needs to be light-hearted and short.
Avoid raising red flags with whining or complaints, sexual innuendo, or anything negative. Try one of these proven Tinder taglines:
“If you like water, you already like 72 percent of me.”
“I’ll treat you the way Kanye treats Kanye.”
It’s fair to say that our interracial dating community represents the enlightened majority in American society. A Gallup poll in 2013 found that 96% of black people and 84% of white people approve marriage between blacks and whites. This means that 87% of Americans overall see no problem with black-white marriage, up from a meager 4% in 1958 1. https://teensoftware444.tumblr.com/post/657489259390959616/elite-singles-interracial-dating. Questions about online dating? Enjoy our ultimate online dating guide; Interracial Dating. If there were previously stereotypes, preconceptions or presumptions about interracial dating, these outdated attitudes are transforming as more and more American singles are seeking partners from other ethnic groups, and couples’ relationships no longer being defined along racial lines.
“I know all the words to ‘Butterfly’ by ‘Crazy Town’.”
“I can make a better sandwich than you.”

2. Tinder Profile Photos
a) Copy the best profiles— use all six slots.
The best Tinder profiles start with a clear shot of the person’s face.
For the rest, variety is key: a pic with friends, in a suit, travel pic, hobby candid, athletic candid.
b) Test your pics on Photofeeler to find your best.
The best of Tinder have great photos of themselves. They aren’t the most attractive people necessarily, but they know how to sell themselves with a picture.
Tumblr media
Most guys COMPLETELY FAIL at using pictures that are even as attractive as they are in real life. Most guys choose pics that bring their number down.
Before you waste your Tinder matches on the wrong photos, be sure to run yours through Photofeeler to know exactly how women are responding to them.
Choosing profile pictures this way has been known to increase matches on Tinder by 200-400%.
Go to Photofeeler.com now and give it a try!

6 BEST TINDER BIO FOR BOYS
Boys are a different race altogether and the way their alternatively wired brains function are utterly praiseworthy. I mean come on, if you are a guy reading this, you probably have a smirk on your face because I know you feel me. See there isn’t anything terrific about writing a mind-blowing bio in tinder. It takes nothing more than some smoking words to set the girlish brains on fire with a first glance and BOOM! you’re a right swipe.
1. No Fuss Bio
There is an absolute requirement for being straightforward while you writing on tinder and being a guy its necessary for you lay down your intentions on the table like whiskey on the rocks. Let me just show you an example from a guy’s tinder bio I peeped into from my sister’s phone that sounded something like this-“Like living alone, Food, cold beer, dogs, sci-fi books, rock music, love to discuss and talk about everything related to being creepy, ask me for skating in Michigan lake, people my kind will be appreciated”Dude… even I would swipe back right for this guy for being so straight up. This is how you’ve got to nail the bio shit on Tinder. It’s all very straightforward and this guy seems to know what he wants to reflect to a girl.
2. Creative Stuff
Creativity is picking out your own flaws and selling them a hand on fist. Boys, if you have to rate to the top, you really have to dig out some creative stuff trending on tinder. I mean you won’t imagine the level of creativity guys put into their tinder bios. Don’t believe me yet? Check this out-
“Facts about me only on request.
I go six feet without heels and 6’6 with, got a six tuxedo wardrobe so don’t hesitate to ask me out for summer weddings. Friends call me outgoing but I don’t mind Netflix on my couch if you are comfortable doing me there”Now that’s humor and creativity blended into a nice morning smoothie to gulp down for chick’s on fleek. Creativity has always been sexy. Take an artist or a musician for an example… girls scream and sigh to be with one.
3. Laid Back Me
When I say ‘Be you’, take it seriously because there is absolutely no need to pretend about your laziness, if only I could add a LOL here I would. So what I mean to say is if you are laid back, PLEASE let it reflect in your bio. Girls aren’t much behind boys these days when it comes to craziness and some of them love petting guys. So if you are lazy and romantic so be that to the fullest. Take a look at this guy who totally nailed it when it came to reflecting his interests.“Love traveling, surfing, tech is my thing, long walks on the beach, spontaneous trips to Paris for freshly baked bread would be great for weekends, I am a guy to have espresso with, take your chances I might just get off the market soonAweee, as gayish as it may sound… this dude sounds unreal! But guys reading this please try to be romantic for F sake. It’s required sometimes. Girls would love a lazy weekend and awesome sunset walks along the beach and know it’s absolutely addicting when it comes to Paris and freshly baked bread.
4. Humor off Radar
Adding humor to tender bio is adding fuel to fire. You don’t agree? You will be surprised how easy it gets to have right swipes when you have a sprinkle of funny write up to showcase on tinder. It’s to build up that “want to know him more” thing in their forever working brains.
Tumblr media
“I am an astronaut, appeared for the cover of GQ and later became a French spy. I am psychic and love time traveling, recently have been to 2025 and saw myself sailing across the Caribbean with a girl with red hair, shaken yet?Okay exaggerated a bit, but I did complete science as major and luckily can humor more than the regular once in my batch, gotta swipe right to know more about me”That was too cute to have been said he sounded futuristically unreal for a girl to fit her brains around, any which ways, do try out humor because girls love it. Humor is all that a smart girl looks for with some mix of right attitude and sexy along the side.
5. Short and Attractive
There is always space for you to be all sexy with the max effect. And that’s how few men do it with least minimum action words but with more depth.
“Dog lover, food is worshipHave been a drummer so love banging”
Cool bro, this guy is all set to get laid on his first date, mentioning about his musical skills and all. Not that I am jealous, just saying.
6. Lengthy yet Interesting
If you are planning to write a long list of details about you, make sure you sound interesting. No girl has time to really open up to a complete essay about you even before she knows you in person. Save them some time, and even if you do write, write some insanely sexy words to blow their mind off, then and there.
Best Hookup Bios For Tinder
“Precise EnglishAwesome cookRegular to gymFoodieDisney World returnOwner of three cars Love to ride Audi on Saturdays” Over 40 friends date. That is some really good stuff and it explains how writing lengthy can pay off in the end.
6 BEST TINDER BIO FOR GIRLS
I guess girls on tinder don’t really have to worry about getting right swipes because they already do. Yet I exactly know where their interest lies… girls face problems in getting the right swipe from the right person. But there isn’t a lot of hard work to get what you want on tinder.Best tinder bios for girls are the ones which are really witty and yet again straightforward. They always rank to gain the highest swipes on tinder. Check out our six best bios for girls after which you too can easily take some ideas and tweak around to build up your own flawless tinder bio.
1. The Perfect One
A perfect bio build up by a girl reflects how serious they are with tinder profile and that is actually a good thing for boys to handle. Girls, if you are a fan of building up a nice and perfect bio about yourself then please go ahead like this one
“I love dogs, and prefer men in shape because I find men out of shape to be overly sensitive somehow”
Tinder Dating Site Hook Up
It reflects what kind of men you like and a little glimpse of your liking as well. It really leaves something to the imagination of men, just don’t forget to add up a nice display picture.
2. The Realist
Realist girls would love bios like these and why not do something similar when it comes to building your own bio? I suggest you write something which really turns out to be an exact replica of your realist nature. It really does work. Guys love girls who are clear with their ideas and aren’t afraid to express that on tinder. Take a look at this bio for an instance“I like long walks on the beach, and i know why you are swiping along instead being surrounded by friends because somewhere your search is still on, know that i like to cuddle in baggy clothes while I watch Netflix happily all weekends, so don’t expect me to dress up and go out for a date night when am all cozy, and just so you know I am currently in an open relationship with 3 female roommates, text to let me know if that would be a problem with you?”
Wow, that’s just so inviting. I mean you read this and it’s like “let’s see if her roommates are out this weekend”.
3. The Cheesy One
This is my personal favorite because it’s amazing how guys react to a cheesy pickup line or bio. It’s like cheesy words just drills a deep impact on them and they are golden. Yet nothing can beat the kind of cheesy stuff girls write on tinder these days sure you can if you put in that effort but first check out these two which turns out to be gaining thousands on swipes overnight“I believe men have two emotions to the maximum, Hungry and Horny. If I don’t see with an erection I might get you your favorite sandwich”“Since I’m good with cooking I can make you some dessert but if you are hungry for oversweet dishes there is always me”It’s so cheesy that any guy would swipe right. Don’t just copy paste through built up your own because there is nothing like putting your own words into action and see the results.Related Article:=' color:=''>='color:>Best Flirting App for both iOS and Android=' color:=''>='color:>
4. The Pizza Lover
I personally categorize people into two different sects, one who likes pizza and the other one you know who. I know girls like 99.9% are in love with pizza and it’s utterly cute when that is reflected on your tinder bio. Get that extra sense of your pizza love into play and build up a tinder bio. Believe me, guys love girls when they talk about eating, I mean that intensity itself is mind-blowing to them. “Finally to have someone of the same taste, pizza lover if you are reading this grab your chance and rescue another pizza lover from these mundane”
“You might not know me yet but if pizzas are your thing only then bother texture”
My God, it’s hard to believe but trust me pizza lovers do take their obsession to next level. It’s almost like a religion to them. So girls if you have a certain obsession with food, please bring it up in your tinder bio because real is always attractive.
5. The Dark Side
Once you decide to type your tinder bio by explaining something about your dark side, don’t step back, guys love reading something different out of the ordinary and it’s so cool. To be honest, don’t start planning a murder in your bio or discuss about a long lost crime you did as a child. But be that girl if you are little nasty, that is like 10/10 for boys to swipe right for.
“Can you meet me in the dark alley beside barneys in 20 min? Lol”
“I love star wars, watching saw after midnight, a game of thrones is a religion for me and I breathe and eat Vikings, oh! Also, I can’t sleep before I repeat watching an episode of my favorite psychological thriller Hannibal. Text if you match my taste”
Wow, that’s like sex with words, I would love to know about this girl more and more and you just know what I mean.
6. The Captivating One
I know most of you would think this one is probably the best one of them all. I guess it has to be because being captivating is something that not all girls can carry. Truth must be told it’s really important to understand the mentality of a guy when he has been swiping more than hundred profiles daily.Making your profile captivating and getting them hooked to your don’t really take much effort yet it does require a little tweaking of words to get to frame that perfect sentence that can really blow their mind off the radar.
“I wonder why would you be on tinder if you’re already.Taken?”
That is exactly what you want your guys to know about you- Nothing. In that way, they will swipe right and your work starts there… to sort the best among the rest.
How Can Tinder Bios Reflect You As A Person??
I am literally writing an answer to this question because it has been asked on our website for like a zillion times. Tinder bio reflects a great deal of a persona and it’s not just about how witty, pretty, funny or awesome you can sound but what you really are as a person. I know it sounds bookish as few words can’t reflect a person’s nature but you really can make a difference. If you are looking for something to match your taste then know that the other person writing about themselves are looking for the exact same things as you are. You’ve been through the entire article and I know what is going round in your mind. You just want to switch to another tab or pick up your other device to get this thing into place. Knowing what a tinder bio should look like calls for an action.I hope this article helps you chalk out a great bio on tinder and get you that right swipe that you deserve. Also when you read your section make sure you read it carefully because putting some of those suggestions into your writing can really help you build a bio that you become an irresistibly interesting person one can’t wait to know about.

Lucky Stars - Blurb and Introduction - Nathan Fryer-Woods
Comically depressing… Lawrie is trapped in an undisclosed location in southeast Asia. It's undisclosed, as Lawrie is a real life boy, still stuck, still in danger. An illegal alien, through no fault of his own, and now a father for the first time. As a mysterious disease ravages the world outside, Lawrie is trapped on the edge of the jungle and civilization, in the most tribal part of the country with the feral in-laws he now calls family. While trying to teach and help his son to grow, he's constantly battling against the bad habits, tribal practices and the deeply embedded superstitions, passed down over the generations. No matter how futile his attempt would seem, all he can do is try… what could possibly go wrong??
www.gogetfunding.com/luckystars        www.paypal.me/whliteraryagent
Introduction.
I hope you like reading…
They say, it's all about the first line. So now that's over and done with, hi, my name's Nathan. Originally from the UK, but now (and I've always said this as a bit of a joke, but these days it has new meaning), happily trapped in south east Asia. My almost 9 month old Son is doing just great. My wife's family are certifiably crazy, which wasn't a problem till we started living with them. Unfortunately, it's rubbing off on me, and I'm stuck here between a rock, and a bit of a pickle. Not the place I intended to be, whilst raising my first and probably only child.
Thanks to the madness currently possessing the world, my options, just like most people's, are thin on the ground. But as a foreigner in this country, with no government bail out like I'd be getting back home, I expect I'm currently somewhere towards the top end of the world's poverty chart… I've chosen not to openly disclose where I am exactly, as publishers in this country need to exercise a very careful caution, and the laws here regarding slander and defamation of character, mixed up with my legal status, could end up making my situation much worse. I'm not trying to cast a negative light on this place, but it might sometimes seem that way, with how I write about it. I love this place, I just hate this situation and feel so helpless.
I realise I may also at times sound very unappreciative. That's because I am... my body doesn't appreciate white rice every meal of every day. And though I'm used to picking things out of my food, when bugs are a part of the recipe, it feels a bit rude. My lungs don't appreciate the smell of burning bottles every night, and I'm sick of moving the big piles of plastic that mount up outside the room where my son sleeps. I'm also not too keen on the kitchen knife under his pillow, this turned up there, not because of my wife's heavy hands waking him up in tears, but the bad dreams caused by the ghosts. And even though we all know the only way to scare a ghost away is with cutlery, I think I'd prefer a bad dream every once in a while, than one time having a kitchen knife lodged in my neck.
All this being said, I have chosen, for many reasons (and very few alternatives), to ride this out as long as possible for the sake of my Son. The book I am writing explains my situation, and by reading it you should be able to fill in the very odd, small gap. But if not, fire me a message and we'll have a chin-wag.
In a nutshell, I was robbed of the money for my renewal of a very important document by a tour operator. Due to my own naivety, and being busy working in a different city, it was almost 3 months before I realised there was a problem. At the time, my wife was pregnant, and the little money I had was to take care of the hospital bill. After taking some bad advice, I scraped together $500 and paid someone who's family are high up in government and the police, to sort the problem out (at the time, the standard practice was to lock people up waiting for someone back home to cough up). Now, I'm down an extra $500, and the document I need to pass through ports is nowhere to be seen. Which is a bit of a worry. I've been here long enough, seen it all before, and by now have learnt that there's nothing much I can do to sort this, without having the cash to pay the overstay. And going to my embassy wouldn't do any good either, they can't help me out of this, not if I don't have the funds.
The area we now live in is very rural, nothing but farmland for miles around. My skill set is absolutely useless out here. I've spent most of my time in this country working in tourism, mainly managing guesthouses, a skill I'm very thankful for being able to pick up. At the time the world began to fall apart, I was project managing the build of an eco-resort. I wasn't making much, but the potential was there. My manager made the right decision at the time, and cut his losses. A few months later my wife gave up and went back to her parents while I kept trying. But when she told me her and her family (that day there were 5 people not including children), were sharing 2 eggs between them, I decided to come back too. I know what these people are like, and can't let my son grow up like them.
When he was born, I was told it would be 6 weeks before we could get out and back to work. It had been 2 months when I was told the in-laws wanted us to go back to work, leaving my child here. Another month later and they finally got the message. There's no way I'm leaving my boy with a man who gives 3 year olds energy drinks at 8am, while the rest of the family spend their time beating and screaming at him as he's got too much energy, or is crashing from the sugar. This poor boy has all black stumps for teeth on the top row, no pants on all day as he rolls around in the dirt people have been pissing in, and takes worming tablets. This boy, does not need energy drinks. Grandma, loves giving the 22 month old, the dregs of her antihistamine medicine. It tastes nice, so it must be good. Ma can't read the back of packets, instructions or warnings.
Now, the only real option I have is farm work on the family plot. I did this last time we were here when our son was born, usually earning somewhere between $3.75 & 7.50 every 2 days. This time of year, the farm is out of season. Once this years crop is ready, the total worth of the farm's produce will be around $5.00 every 2 days as the 1st month creeps by. This time around, as it looks like I'll be staying for the foreseeable future, I've got to come up with a real plan, I can't put up with this much longer. I used to be vegetarian, and though we're surrounded by farms, I haven't seen a vegetable in 10 days. Now I eat fish heads.. the cheeks, the brains, their faces. I give the eyes to my wife's brothers…I had to draw the line somewhere.
My only way of making a decent wage out here, is to work online. Ideally I'd like to teach English. But most of the day, we're in a black hole for data connection, and with the lack of a certain document, signing up as a teacher isn't possible anyway.
So what's the plan? Well, I guess I'll carry on clutching at straws, keep writing the book, prepare the land for this years harvest and raise the boy. Plenty to keep me busy, but I need way out of this, before my boy grows up like his feral cousins. I feel like I'm living in a George Orwell book, and I don't mean 1984, that's the outside world. We're still stuck on Animal Farm.
I always thought I'd be somewhere in my 50s/60s, when I finally thought about penning my first book. When I had something to write about, and my fingers couldn't handle playing music any longer... As it turns out, I have plenty to write about, and it's spilling out with ease. I've always written, but a novel seemed a little too daunting to even think about. I wouldn't like to guess just how many songs I've written since my first, 25 years ago (which was terrible, and I hate that I still remember it). But the 2 albums trapped in my head are pretty good, at least I recon so. Hopefully they will see the light of day, at some point in the future.
I started the novel on the night of the 21st December 2020, and as of today - 29th Dec, I'm over the 10,000 word marker (though I've been doing a daily, rough edit as I go, I've been advised to try and avoid this, but I wanted the intro to be somewhat polished for upload). I'm hoping to entice some of you in, with the first few chapters. If it's something you're into, super duper. I'm looking for 'donations', to help my family out of this situation, but all donors will receive a copy of the book when finished, and after it's final edit.
A little can go a long way out here, and anything would be much appreciated as I'm raising my little champ. The link to the funding site can be found below, or by clicking here.
If you're not able to spare anything, no worries, but do keep checking back to my blog as (and don't quote me on this), I'll probably be adding to and updating as I go, up to the point of a ghastly cliffhanger, obviously, nerr... Once I've finished writing and editing, anyone who's helped out will be sent a link to download an e-book copy, and if and when I'm lucky enough to have it published in printed form, each will receive a copy of that in time, a few things depending. All will get a mention in both copies on a dedication page as a huge thank you (unless requested otherwise). And I'd like to offer people the chance to leave an inspirational message/joke/clue to where buried treasure may be hidden, or of course, just absolute nonsense, for the outside world to read alongside their dedication. Heck, use it to promote your auntie's dog wash service, see if I care. Could be quite interesting, and sounds like fun to me.
At the rate that I'm writing, I expect to be in the final editing stage by about mid February.
The novel is written as a fiction, but at the same time, is almost completely autobiographical. Names and places have been changed to help protect our safety here, but the story, and its characters are real. I can promise that, as I'm living it.
And just before I get back to work, I must say… I know that sometimes my use of punctuation, Capitals, and commas, may be a little unorthodox,,, but just so you know, I do know most of what I'm doing wrong, I did fairly well in school (not so bad)… but, I knew better… and still think that I might. And besides, I've got some good friends back home with already published work, who are going to help with the final cut… I've not pestered them so much as of yet, and what's down currently, is me with very little coaching, but with a little help from my friends, in the end, it'll brush up alright. Any questions, comments or advice would be more than welcomed, you can find my email address below.
Oh, and no matter how important the first line of a story must be, I just couldn't help myself… A tongue-in-cheek nod to my future self, hopefully showing how far I've come. I'm sorry, you'll get over it.
Thank you for reading, you're welcome to carry on, and I hope you do.

NOTE TO POTENTIAL PUBLISHERS
I know for any publisher, having a plot outline is very important and often essential for most first time authors. Although I am a true 'pantser' in life in general and writing this whilst in the thick of it, day by day. I do have my main outline. The middle marathon (with all potential real life disasters averted), being based on one or more of the many fears I have for the future, and twists in the plot coming from actual past events which have happened to me whilst being here. But as I say, this is all providing nothing major happens as I'm writing, and with all that's happened here already, would be an unexpected, and highly unlikely surprise. I have also been writing daily outlines, more detailed and over a smaller time frame, for the following days work. I will happily provide the main plot outline, and an up-to-date manuscript upon request. Nice one.

telling my coworker not to bring his kids in every week, accepting coffee from my boss, and more
It’s five answers to five questions. Here we go…
1. How do I tell my coworker not to bring his kids to work every week?
I teach at a university and am not on the tenure track. I am in an office with nine other instructors and we only have the illusion of privacy that four-foot-high cubicle walls can give. Recently, another instructor moved into one of the cubicles after having a private office last year. This week I was surprised to see him roll a stroller into the office and then spend the next hour and a half entertaining his two children, one a loud preschooler and the other a very curious and mobile baby. I was trying to get work done, but the loud discussions of snacks, baby burbles, and noise-making electronic toys make it impossible. I eventually gave up and spent some time entertaining the preschooler. As he left the office with his children, my coworker told the preschooler that they all would see me again next week.
I had thought this was a one-time emergency deal, but it sounds like he expects this to be a weekly thing that no one else in the office will have trouble with. The problem is that no one is in charge of the office—we’re in a different location than the department we work for, and academics are notorious for wanting everything to be democratic and to not have policies passed down from on high. I could go work somewhere else when he is in the office, but I don’t want to trade access to my work computer and books for peace and quiet. To make things even trickier, this colleague often works closely with our department chair while I do not. How do I, someone without kids and who appeared to be just fine with having loud children in the office, tell this colleague that this arrangement won’t work?
If it’s very clear that he’s planning to do this weekly (as opposed to just, say, talking nonsense to his child to get them out of there more quickly), speak up now! You could say, “I of course understand if you’re occasionally in a bind with child care, but I’m concerned about the idea of bringing your kids in every week. It was pretty loud and distracting this most recent time and made it tough to focus. I don’t that’s feasible to do weekly.” Or you can wait until it happens again and frame it as, ““I of course understand if you’re occasionally in a bind with child care, but the noise is pretty disruptive when you do. I’m sorry to ask this because I’m sure you wouldn’t be bringing them in if you had other obvious options, but it’s tough to work when they’re here. Is it something you’re planning on doing regularly?” (That’s softer than “don’t do it,” but it’s an option when “don’t do it” isn’t something you have standing to say on your own.)
That said, academia is its own odd bird, and things that would be perfectly reasonable approaches elsewhere often aren’t in academia. Any academics want to weigh in via the comments?
2. How often should I accept my boss’s offer to grab me coffee?
I am in my mid-20s and have been working in a professional environment for close to two years. I am about three months into my current job where I work as a business assistant at a law firm. I report directly to the chairman of the firm, who is very high up and well-respected. We work in a building that has a Starbucks in the lobby. My boss often goes down to grab himself coffee and asks if I would like one myself every once in a while. He offers to everyone in the area and I’ve never seen anyone accept his offer. These are not his direct reports like I am.
My question is: how often is it appropriate to accept a coffee? Sure, it’s less than $3 and not much trouble, especially if he is offering. I’ve accepted once before, but I’m unsure is there is any etiquette that could help me gauge this situation.
I don’t think there’s one definitive answer to this! My personal take is that I wouldn’t take him up on it every time (unless you’re going to start making him the same offer in return sometimes) but it’s fine to accept now and then … but I have no idea how to quantify what “now and then” means. Once a month? Once every third time he offers? Those both sound reasonable to me.
I don’t think you should feel awkward about occasionally saying yes, though. When someone repeatedly offers to do something kind for you, it can be gracious to sometimes take them up on it (if it’s something you’d genuinely like to accept). It can also build more a connection between the favor-offerer and the favor-accepter in a small but not insignificant way.
3. Employee is monopolizing the conference room to get quiet work space
My office is open, but it’s not a new, innovative concept. It’s an old building and this has happened out of necessity. We’re the support team for several businesses downstairs, so it’s never going to happen that we move into a new, more workable space. We all work pretty silently, and keep distractions to a minimum. We also have a large, open event space where we’re all accustomed to taking phone calls and having meetings.
Recently, we’ve added a few employees and the volume level in the office has increased. Most of us have just deployed headphones, until the newbies catch on. (One is our new boss, so it’s not as easy as telling them all to keep it down.) The problem is with one employee, who has taken it upon herself to consistently go work in the event space. She also happens to be the only employee with a laptop she can work off of. But now, that room is never available for anyone else. Unless we ask her to leave, which she always is willing to do — it’s just awkward. I don’t know how to communicate to her that what she’s doing is inconsiderate. It also seems like she should be able to work in there if she wants to, and it seems petty of me considering the majority of the time that space is vacant. Am I being unreasonable?
If she’s always willing to leave when the space is needed for something else, it doesn’t sound like this is really a problem. Open offices can be incredibly difficult for people to work in, and if there’s a mostly unused conference room sitting vacant, there’s no logical reason why she shouldn’t use it, as long as she’s willing to move when needed, which she is. Working in there could be making a major difference in her concentration or her productivity, as well as to her morale.
I know it might seem unfair since other people without laptops can’t do it — but then the solution is for them to ask for laptops so multiple people could use the conference room as a quiet room at the same time, not to stop her from doing it just because others can’t.
If the issue is that you feel awkward or rude asking her to vacate the room, I’d say the solution is for you realize it’s perfectly okay to do that (and she seems to think so too, based on her cheerfully leaving when asked to).
4. When I arrived for my interview, the interviewer told me the job had been changed significantly
I recently applied for a job at a large, well-respected company in an industry that I have a lot of experience with. In the third week after the job posting, the hiring manager contacted me for an interview and told me to expect that the interview would last at least an hour. All seemed fairly normal.
Three days later, I arrived for my interview, and was told point-blank that the job description had drastically changed (“due to some changes in the department”); 50% of the job would now be something that was not in the job description at all, and the person I would be reporting to would be different. While I was still trying to process this (having just sat down), she said, “If at any time you feel you are no longer interested, please let us know so that we don’t waste any time.” She then spent the next 10 minutes telling hair-raising stories about how difficult, exasperating, and stress-inducing the newly added job duties would be (it almost sounded like she was venting about something that was currently her job that would be given to the new hire) and I couldn’t get a word in edgewise.
The fact that the job description had been changed on the fly was enough to deep-six my interest in working with this company (quite shocking considering their reputation and stature in the community), although the new job duties sounded pretty miserable too and they certainly didn’t sell me on working in the position. I did try to be polite but eventually had to interrupt to give a very cursory “Thanks for calling me in and here is a little bit about me and my work experience…” but then I quickly wound it up with “…and I’m sorry, but I don’t feel I’m the right person for this position as you describe it.” I added that I wished them luck in filling the position and that it might be a difficult search to find someone willing to take on such apparently demanding duties. (They said, “Don’t worry, we have a large applicant pool to go through.” I wonder if they had kept the truth from all their other applicants as well?)
I shook hands with everyone and even politely commended them on their honesty, but I also left with sour feelings too: they never once apologized for the bait-and-switch, and I had spent considerable time preparing for the interview, driving in to the interview site, arranging time off my current job, etc. It had been three weeks since the job was posted and three days since they called me in for an interview; could they not in the meantime have sent a heads-up email about how the job description had actually substantially changed and to ask if I was still interested? Am I off base for expecting that kind of consideration from a prospective employer, or is this just the way things are in the work world these days?
Yes, they should have told you beforehand so you could have decided if you were still interested or not. But while it’s reasonable to be annoyed, sometimes this stuff happens. Who knows, maybe they just nailed down the changes the night before. It’s better than if they’d interviewed you and then changed the job a week later — or worse, after hiring you.
In any case, yes, it’s annoying. But it’s also not cause for extrapolating any larger messages about the work world these days. It’s just one annoying situation that wasn’t perfectly handled.
5. Cover letters that say working there has always been a dream
Does it sound disingenuous to say that working somewhere has always been a dream? For instance, I’m a journalist and have a few publications where I have always wanted to work and/or be published (some big, like The New Yorker, but others small). In a cover letter, I would, of course, also elaborate on why I love their work and why I think it’s a particularly good fit for me — but I do that in every job application, regardless of how much I want the job. I know the New Yorker is everyone’s dream, but if I were to apply to some of the smaller publications that probably are not aspirational for every writer, does it sound childish to explain how important they are to me?
If it’s something like the New Yorker, don’t say it at all. They already know, because it’s true for so many people, and it’ll come across as slightly naive to say it.
If it’s a smaller place where it’s a much less common dream, it’s fine to spend a line or two on why you’d be so delighted to work for them — but just a line or two. They do want to know that you’re interested in working for them specifically, but that doesn’t require a lot of space to explain. They’re much more interested in hearing about why you’d excel at the role, and that’s where the bulk of your letter should focus.

THE BOOK OF Josue - From The Douay-Rheims Bible - Latin Vulgate
Chapter 3
INTRODUCTION
This book is called Josue, because it contains the history of what passed under him, and, according to the common opinion, was written by him. The Greeks call him Jesus; for Josue and Jesus, in the Hebrew, are the same name, and have the same signification, viz. A Saviour. And it was not without a mystery, that he who was to bring the people into the land of promise, should have his name changed from Osee (for so he was called before, Num. xiii. 17,) to Josue, or Jesus, to give us to understand, the Moses, by his law, could only bring the people within sight of the promised inheritance, but that our Saviour, Jesus, was to bring us into it. Ch. --- The Hebrews who had been so rebellious under Moses, behaved with remarkable fidelity and respect towards his successor; who, by these means, more forcibly represented the Christian Church, (D.) which will be ever obedient to her divine head and observe his directions. Josue had been trained up a long time under the hand of Moses, and God had given him the commission to govern his people, in so public a manner, that no one offered to claim that high and arduous office. In effect, the whole conduct of Josue before and after his exaltation, shewed him to be most deserving of command. H. --- Josue, says the Holy Ghost, (Eccli. xlvi. 1,) was successor of Moses among the prophets, or, according to the Greek, "in prophecies." Many explain this of the obligation incumbent on him, to continue the sacred history (C.) and revelations where Moses had left off. The last chapter of this book informs us that he did so. Perhaps some additions, by way of farther explication, have been made by subsequent inspired writers, though most of the passages which are adduced to prove this assertion, seem to be of little force. Respecting the death of Josue, we may make the same observations as on that of Moses. It may have been written by the author of the Book of Judges. Theodoret seems to have thought that the work before us, was compiled out of the public registers, which are quoted C. x. under the name of the book of the Lord. See Num. xxi. 14. The Samaritans have a book or chronicle of Josue, which relates in 39 or 47 chapters, many facts of scriptural history, (H.) down to the reign of Adrian, intermingled with a variety of fables. It seems to be of modern date. Hottinger undertook to publish it in Latin, but was prevented by death. C. --- The true history of Josue sets before us the passage of the Jordan, the conquest of Chanaan, and the distribution of the country. After the pious general had performed all that could be expected from him, after he had twice ratified the covenant between God and his people, and exhorted the latter, with his last breath, to observe an inviolable fidelity to the only Lord, he departed this life in peace, in the 110th year of his age, and was buried at Thamnath Sare, which he had built for the place of his abode. H. --- As the five books of Moses contain the law, intermixed with history, so this first of the historical books exhibits a variety of useful precepts and predictions. The prophetical and sapiential books must be considered in the same light. W. --- They all tend to promote true wisdom and the salvation of men, provided they be perused in the same spirit with which they were written. H.

Chapter 3
The river Jordan is miraculously dried up for the passage of the children of Israel.
[1] And Josue rose before daylight, and removed the camp: and they departed from Setim, and came to the Jordan, he, and all the children of Israel, and they abode there for three days. Igitur Josue de nocte consurgens movit castra : egredientesque de Setim, venerunt ad Jordanem ipse et omnes filii Israel, et morati sunt ibi tres dies.
[2] After which, the heralds went through the midst of the camp, Quibus evolutis transierunt praecones per castrorum medium,
[3] And began to proclaim: When you shall see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests of the race of Levi carrying it, rise you up also, and follow them as they go before: et clamare coeperunt : Quando videritis arcam foederis Domini Dei vestri, et sacerdotes stirpis Leviticae portantes eam, vos quoque consurgite, et sequimini praecedentes :
[4] And let there be between you and the ark the space of two thousand cubits: that you may see it afar off, and know which way you must go: for you have not gone this way before: and take care you come not near the ark. sitque inter vos et arcam spatium cubitorum duum millium : ut procul videre possitis, et nosse per quam viam ingrediamini : quia prius non ambulastis per eam : et cavete ne appropinquetis ad arcam.
[5] And Josue said to the people: Be ye sanctified: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you. Dixitque Josue ad populum : Sanctificamini : cras enim faciet Dominus inter vos mirabilia.
[6] And he said to the priests: Take up the ark of the covenant, and go before the people. And they obeyed his commands, and took it up and walked before them. Et ait ad sacerdotes : Tollite arcam foederis, et praecedite populum. Qui jussa complentes, tulerunt, et ambulaverunt ante eos.
[7] And the Lord said to Josue: This day will I begin to exalt thee before Israel: that they may know that as I was with Moses, so I am with thee also. Dixitque Dominus ad Josue : Hodie incipiam exaltare te coram omni Israel : ut sciant quod sicut cum Moyse fui, ita et tecum sim.
[8] And do thou command the priests that carry the ark of the covenant, and say to them: When you shall have entered into part of the water of the Jordan, stand in it. Tu autem praecipe sacerdotibus, qui portant arcam foederis, et dic eis : Cum ingressi fueritis partem aquae Jordanis, state in ea.
[9] And Josue said to the children of Israel: Come hither and hear the word of the Lord your God. Dixitque Josue ad filios Israel : Accedite huc, et audite verbum Domini Dei vestri.
[10] And again he said: By this you shall know that the Lord the living God is in the midst of you, and that he shall destroy before your sight the Chanaanite and the Hethite, the Hevite and the Pherezite, the Gergesite also and the Jebusite, and the Amorrhite.
[11] Behold the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth shall go before you into the Jordan. Ecce arca foederis Domini omnis terrae antecedet vos per Jordanem.
[12] Prepare ye twelve men of the tribes of Israel, one of every tribe. Parate duodecim viros de tribubus Israel, singulos per singulas tribus.
[13] And when the priests, that carry the ark of the Lord the God of the whole earth, shall set the soles of their feet in the waters of the Jordan, the waters that are beneath shall run down and go off: and those that come from above, shall stand together upon a heap. Et cum posuerint vestigia pedum suorum sacerdotes qui portant arcam Domini Dei universae terrae in aquis Jordanis, aquae quae inferiores sunt, decurrent atque deficient : quae autem desuper veniunt, in una mole consistent.
[14] So the people went out of their tents, to pass over the Jordan: and the priests that carried the ark of the covenant. went on before them. Igitur egressus est populus de tabernaculis suis, ut transiret Jordanem : et sacerdotes, qui portabant arcam foederis, pergebant ante eum.
[15] And as soon as they came into the Jordan, and their feet were dipped in part of the water, (now the Jordan, it being harvest time, had filled the banks of its channel,) Ingressisque eis Jordanem, et pedibus eorum in parte aquae tinctis ( Jordanis autem ripas alvei sui tempore messis impleverat),
[16] The waters that came down from above stood in one place, and swelling up like a mountain, were seen afar off from the city that is called Adom, to the place of Sarthan: but those that were beneath, ran down into the sea of the wilderness (which now is called the Dead Sea) until they wholly failed. steterunt aquae descendentes in loco uno, et ad instar montis intumescentes apparebant procul, ab urbe quae vocatur Adom usque ad locum Sarthan : quae autem inferiores erant, in mare Solitudinis ( quod nunc vocatur Mortuum) descenderunt, usquequo omnino deficerent.
[17] And the people marched over against Jericho: and the priests that carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, stood girded upon the dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, and all the people passed over through the channel that was dried up. Populus autem incedebat contra Jericho : et sacerdotes, qui portabant arcam foederis Domini, stabant super siccam humum in medio Jordanis accincti, omnisque populus per arentem alveum transibat.
Commentary:
Ver 1. Days, in part, as they arrived on the 8th of Nisan, staid there the following day, and crossed the Jordan on the 10th, on Friday the 30th of our April. Thus Christ is said to have remained three days in the tomb, (C.) though he was there only a small part of Friday and of Sunday, and the whole of Saturday. Heb. "they lodged there before they passed over, (2) and it came to pass after three days that the," &c.
Ver. 2. Heralds. Shoterim. C. i. 10. Prot. "the officers went through the host." H.
Ver. 3. Levi. Sigonius thinks that the Caathites performed this office on this as on other occasions. But the Vulgate shews that the priests sometimes carried the ark, perhaps because it was uncovered. C. vi. 6. 2 K. xv. 25. At this period the number of priests was but small. Some of the sons of Eleazar and of Ithamar might be old enough to assist their parents: only two would be necessary at a time, though the Rabbins assign four, (which is not improbable. Theodoret) and pretend that the two who went first were obliged to go backwards, in order that their faces might be turned towards the ark, out of respect. The ark now marked the way for the people, as the cloud had disappeared on the death of Moses. S. Aug. q. 3. Masius. C. --- It had been carried at the head of the army in the desert. H.
Ver. 4. Space of. Heb. adds, "about...by measure." It was not easy to observe the exact distance in the march. This was prescribed both to keep the people at a respectful distance, and also to enable them to see which way they were to proceed. When the priests stood in the bed of the river, the waters rose up like a firm wall on the north side, while those to the south flowed away into the lake of Sodom, leaving about 16 miles open for the army of Israel to pass on dry land. The soldiers did not approach within 600 paces of the ark. --- Before. This insinuated that they would pass over in a miraculous manner; though perhaps Josue did not know by what means God would enable them to cross (C.) the overflowing waters. Josephus only seems to intimate that they abated suddenly, so that they might be forded, &c. He also greatly diminishes or destroys the miracle performed at the passage of the Red Sea. Yet here he acknowledges a sort of "prodigy in the waters being restrained," and resuming their usual course as soon as the priests had left the channel of the river. --- And take, &c. Heb. places these words at the beginning of the sentence, after cubits. H.
Ver. 5. Sanctified, as Moses had required at Mount Sinai, (Ex. xix. 10. 15,) ordering the people to wash their garments, and to abstain from their wives, that by this exterior purity, they might be reminded not to neglect that of the soul, without which they would derive but small benefit or instruction from the greatest miracles.
Ver. 6. Commands. Josue was only the organ of God, (C.) whose orders he announces to the sacred ministers; (v. 8. M.) though as a civil magistrate, he was bound to hear and to obey them in matters of religion. C. --- When he ordered circumcision to be administered, when he blessed the multitude, and ratified the covenant between God and the people, (C. v. and xxiv. &c.) he did nothing but what a virtuous governor ought to do; yet he did not these things by virtue of his civil jurisdiction, or in opposition to the spiritual authority of Eleazar. Moses had been the supreme head, being both priest and king. But only part of his glory was communicated to Josue, while Eleazar was directed to consult the Lord for him, (Num. xxvii. 21. Theod. q. 48. in Num.) Josue was to govern at his word, so that he was bound to consider the high priest as his superior. What he therefore did, was in subordination and conformity to the will of Eleazar and of God, and not designed to shew that the priestly authority belonged to himself, as English Protestants would hence infer. The best of princes, both in the Old and New Testament, have always looked upon it as a part of their duty to promote the true religion. W. --- Isaias (xlix) foretold that kings and queens would esteem it their glory to guard and to advance the prosperity of the Church. H. --- Hence they may enact laws for this purpose. S. Aug. c. Crescon. iii. 51. Constantine ratified the judgment passed already by the bishops in the cause of Cecilian, though he confessed at the same time that the determination did not belong to his tribunal; (W.) and he greatly disapproved of the conduct of the Donatists, who appealed to him, as the heathens might have done to an emperor, who was at the same time one of their high priests. H. --- O rabida furoris audacia, said he, sicut in causis gentilium fieri solet, appellationem interposuerunt. 1 Optat. c. Parm. i. S. Aug. ep. 166. Other emperors and kings have acquired great fame, on account of their labours and zeal in defence of the Church. Thus the kings of Spain and of France have obtained the titles of Catholic and Most Christian, and our Henry VIII. was honoured by Pope Leo X. with the title of Defender of the Faith, in 1521, (W.) on account of the book which he presented to that pontiff, while he was yet an obedient son of the Catholic Church, and undertook to defend her faith on the sacraments, against the objections of Luther. In this the faith which the kings of England defend at present? Whatever the princes might do in the old law in spiritual matters, no inference can be drawn for the same right being now exercised by civil magistrates, how supreme soever in their own sphere. Those princes, Josue, &c. might be considered not only in the light of civil governors, but also in that of prophets, who had a great share in the administration of affairs under the Jewish theocracy. If God chose to make known his will by the mouth of a king, or by that of a shepherd, his mandates were to be put in execution with equal exactitude. But now the distinctive limits of the ecclesiastical and of the civil power are more clearly ascertained. Render therefore to Cæsar the things that are Cæsar's and to God the things that are God's. Mat. xxii. 21.) The kingdom of Christ is not of this world; neither did he appoint kings to be the pastors of his Church. H.
Ver. 7. Also. Grotius remarks that God made known his choice of the governors of his people by miracles, till the days of Saul. In effect, we hardly find any, before that time, whose public authority was not sanctioned by some prodigy. C.
Ver. 8. It. Heb. "when you shall have come to the brink (or extremity) of the water of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan," (H.) which some explain by saying that they were to stop on the eastern bank, as soon as they had wet their feet, (Serarius) while others say they crossed quite over, and stood at the other side. Masius. --- But it is more probable, that as soon as they had touched the waters, the priests halted till the bed of the river was presently dried up, and then they placed themselves in the middle of it, close to the raging billows, which, rising up like mountains, were stopped in their career, (H.) and forced to retire backwards to their source, v. 15. 17. C. iv. 9. Bonfrere. A. Lap. --- Some translate, "into the division," instead of part, or extremity. C.
Ver. 9. Hither, probably to the door of the tabernacle, where the assemblies were held.
Ver. 10. Living God, in opposition to the idols of the Gentiles, who were dead men, or at least incapable of affording any assistance to their votaries. Josue gives the people two signs of the divine protection, the destruction of the devoted nations, and the miraculous division of the Jordan, or rather the latter prodigy would be an earnest of the former event; and all, both friends and enemies, might be convinced, that the Lord was with his people, and their present leader, as he had been with Moses. No miracle could have been more suitable for the occasion, none more convincing or useful. C. --- It would naturally inspire the Israelites with confidence, at the revival of the miracles wrought 40 years before, when their fathers and some of themselves had passed the Red Sea, in a similar manner. At the same time, it would fill the Chanaanites with still greater dismay and teach them that all resistance would prove fruitless. Some have wondered that they did not oppose the passage of the Israelites on this occasion. But it is a greater matter of surprise that they should have ventured on the dangerous expedient of encountering them in war, after what they had seen and heard. It can be attributed to nothing but their infatuation, and that blindness with which God punished them, that they might draw on a more speedy and merited destruction for their crimes. H. --- Destroy. Heb. "dispossess, or drive out before you the Chanaanite," &c. These seven nations comprised the ten which are mentioned, Gen. xv. 19. The Chanaanite occupied the countries chiefly about Tyre, while the Hethite dwelt in the southern part of Palestine. The Hevite possessed Mount Hermon, Garizim, &c. The Pherezite were not perhaps a separate people, but employed in cultivating the country. The Gergesite were fixed to the east of the lake of Genesareth, the Jebusite at Jerusalem, and the Amorrhite about the Dead Sea. C. --- But they were often mixed with one another, so that their limits cannot be ascertained with any degree of precision. H.
Ver. 12. Prepare. Heb. "take." But they must have been selected from the tribes, either to carry twelve stones out of the bed of the Jordan, and to place twelve others in their stead, as monuments of this stupendous miracle; (C.) or to accompany the priests and the ark, out of respect. Cajetan. M.
Ver. 13. Heap. Heb. "the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off: the waters that come down from above, even they shall stand as upon a heap," like mountains of ice. The Vulg. informs us what became of the waters (H.) below this division. Where it took place we do not find recorded, so that we cannot know exactly how large a space would be left dry. Calmet allows, "near six leagues." v. 4. and 16. But here, supposing that the Jordan was divided over-against Jericho, he says, that "the waters running off into the Dead Sea, would, in all probability, leave not less than two or three thousand paces of the channel dry."
Interruptus aquis fluxit prior amnis in æquor;
Ad molem stetit unda fluens. Lucan, Phar. ii.
Ver. 15. Water. Thus they manifested the strength of their faith. C. --- Immediately the obedient waters divided, and the gravel or sand was left dry. v. 17. H. --- Channel. The barley harvest was ready about the 30th of April. Lev. xxiii. 10. On other occasions this overflowing of the Jordan is noticed, 1 Par. xii. 15. Eccli. xxiv. 36. Doubdan says that when he visited these parts, at the same season of the year, the Jordan was quite full, on account of the melted snow, and ready to leave its banks. It was about a stone throw across, and very rapid. See C. i. 2. The rains which fall in spring, serve to increase the inundation, (Deut, xi. 14,) as well as the snow which melts at that time on Libanus, though a great part resists the violent heats. Mirum dictu, says Tacitus v. tantos inter ardores opacum fidumque nivibus. Jer. xviii. 14. and xlix. 19.
Ver. 16. Mountain. Heb. "heap or bottle." The billows were forced to roll back almost as far as the lake of Genesareth, where Sarthan stands, about twenty leagues above Jericho. --- Sarthan. Heb. "rose up on a heap, very far from (or to) the city of Adom, that is beside Sarthan." The situation of Adom can only be ascertained by that of Sarthan, which was near Bethsan, or Scythopolis, (3 K. iv. 12,) in the vale of Jezrahel, on the Jordan. Many copies of the Sept. read Cariathiarim, though it was six or seven leagues up the country, west of Jericho. C. --- The swelling billows might perhaps be seen from this place. H. --- But it could not properly determine how far the waters rolled back. C. --- Failed. Heb. "and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, (or of Araba, which means a desert, fit only for pasturage) the salt sea, failed were cut off" from the waters above Jericho. The Jordan after running three miles in the lake of Sodom, without mixing its waters, becomes at last reluctantly confounded with it. Velut invitus...postremo ebibitur, aquasque laudatas perdit, pestilentibus mixtus. Plin. v. 15.
Ver. 17. Jericho, at Bethabara, which was five or six leagues from the Dead Sea, all which space was left dry. Jericho was three leagues from the Jordan. C. --- Girded. Sept. "ready," preparing the way for all the army. Heb. "firm," and undaunted. H. --- A great part of the day must have been spent in crossing the river, and erecting the two monuments. M.

Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight, keep it off, and achieve a body transformation knows how difficult a feat it truly is. Even more so if you are a working professional, where time doesn’t seem to be in sufficient supply for preparing and cooking healthy meals, and let’s not mention finding the time to do some exercise. For moms, this is even more challenging because you put your kids first.
It is so easy to be tempted by “magic” pills that promise to burn extra fat, reduce your appetite, and boost your metabolism. Fad diets are another thing to be aware of; these diets are usually so hard to stick to and may not be healthy (especially in the long-term). A lack of time management, no motivation, and unrealistic expectations further impedes your ability to see your goal of losing weight through.
I would like to share my 3-year weight loss journey with you, together with 10 tips for losing weight, and keeping it off in the long-term.
The picture on the left was taken during my trip to France with my ex boyfriend in February 2014. I went to visit family and we had a big family reunion. My family was chocked by how big I wad and how much I was eating. My excuse was that I needed to gain strength to compete in powerlifing. This was my second year competing and had already won a world champion title. But my family was concerned about my health and gave me couple of warnings during my stay I was not willing to listen to them. I felt upset and frustrated, I thought they didn’t acknowledge the hard work I was putting in the gym but just focus on my physical appearance. I was convinced that I was healthy although I was overweight I couldn’t accept the truth. I am grateful that they warned me and told me the truth, I am much happier right now. We decided with my ex to do a stop at the Eiffel Tower before heading back to Dublin. I hadn’t seen it in nearly 30 years. Although I was in one of the most beautiful city in the world, you can see the pain on my face. I had checked my weight secretly before heading to the airport. I found out that I was up to 114 kg / 250 lbs/ 18 stones. I knew I had to so something but didn’t have the motivation at the time to do it. The right picture is the new me during a photo shoot done 2 weeks ago with my talented friend @chachougrensonphotography
1. Importance of Social Media In this day and age, social media is a powerful tool that can be utilized in positive ways to aid you in your weight loss journey. Social media has provided me with a community of people who not only supports me, but also holds me for my results. They have followed my weight loss journey from the start, has seen my progress, and given me compliments as well as encouragement to keep on going.
At times, it was frustrating when it seemed that there were no results, no matter how healthy I was eating or how hard I was training. It didn’t help that the scale didn’t seem to be on my side either. I realized with the help of my social media friends that sometimes you need to take a step back and appreciate how far you have come. Even something small as not binge-eating or being able to exercise an extra 15 minutes without feeling as if you are not going to make it is something to be proud of. Since I built up a loyal and supportive online community, I am confident that I am able to help others achieve their dreams and change their lifestyle for the better. (Follow me on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.)
My first social media success. I received so many good comments and feedback from friends and people I had never met before. I got over 500 likes across my social media accounts. This is when my followers started to pay attention and take me a bit more seriously. I realised how getting support through social media and creating a new community during my journey was important. I don’t have the opportunity to see my family very often so I feel like I have created a new family and friends through social media. I have had such a positive impact in the all process.
Baby Steps
When people ask me to give them advice on losing weight, I first try to understand where they are coming from and what triggers them to eat food that isn’t good for them. The reason for this is because I first needed to understand my relationship with food before I was able to change my eating habits. What goes on in your mind is key, and everything starts with how we feel about ourselves.
A main problem is that people eat too little during the day and then eat bigger portions at dinner. Most often, dinner is made up of food that is high in sugar and/or is processed. This leads to more cravings for unhealthy foods (a vicious circle that is continues and continues).
My advice is to eat at least 2 healthy, balanced meals during working hours and plan for 1 to 2 snacks to avoid being super hungry at dinnertime. This should ideally be done in a step-by-step basis; eating habits cannot be changed immediately.

Planning and Preparing Meals
If you know that you are going to be busy during the week and don’t have time to cook your meals, planning and preparing your food for the week will help you out so much.
For the first two years of my journey, I used to train about 4 to 5 times a week. This year, I have been exercising twice a day, 6 days a week. You can see that I don’t have the time in the week to prepare and cook meals, so I take Sundays to do this. Having my meals planned and prepared before I start my week is a weight off my shoulders.

Cook Meals Yourself
A lot of people struggle to cook their own meals for lunch and/or dinner, so they end up buying meals and/or snacks from a deli or whatever place is most convenient that day. I used to be like that. I would buy my meals every day from the canteen. I have been in the workforce for 21 years, and until 2014, I was too lazy to prepare and bring my own lunch to work. I did, however, admire others who had the discipline to do so.
In September 2014, I started to cook my own lunch every day. I didn’t have a choice, as I was a fulltime student; my tiny budget didn’t allow me to buy food every day. This was the best thing that ever happened to me as I realized that planning meals and making it yourself is a big (much-needed) step to becoming healthy.
One of my favourite dish back in 2014 that I learned from my instructor :home made mince meat pizza. the base is made of mince meat and topped with aubergine cheese onions and tomatoes. It would be so filling that it would last me up to 3 days.
It won’t be smooth sailing at first, and going forward, you learn what food works best for you. Remember that natural ingredients are always best: veggies, fruit, lean and fresh meat, fish, nuts and whole grains. Try to always substitute unhealthy food with healthier versions. That way it doesn’t look like you are trying to restrict yourself too much and you can enjoy the changes you are making in your life. . I would recommend this article on the top 10 health benefits of cooking home.
The 80/20% Rule
For this rule, you need to eat as healthy as you can during the week, and then you can have a cheat meal or two (no more!) on the weekend. For the first two years of my weight loss journey, I would stick as closely as I could to “eating clean” from Monday to Friday and then have treats on the weekend. This way, it isn’t a diet that you follow, but rather a lifestyle and it is a lot easier to maintain.
There were times that I overindulged on the weekends especially when I was training for marathons, thinking that the exercise would burn it off anyways. I learned the hard way that you can’t work out on a bad diet; you still need to keep some control over your cheat meals.
home made protein healthy muffins used to be for my week ends. Although all the ingredients fit into my program I would have them in the week end so that i had something nice to look forward. made with 2 bananas, protein powder, oats, grated coconut and almonds, dark chocolate, peanut butter, walnuts and eggs
Work with a Coach/Nutritionist
There is no harm in reaching out for help and working with a professional who will design a personal plan that is adapted to your needs. There isn’t a perfect, one-size-fits-all “diet” or lifestyle out there for everyone. We all have different body types, lifestyles, jobs, etc.
Even though I am a certified personal trainer, I have always worked with a professional for guidance and motivation. Additionally, a coach further makes me accountable, checks on my progress and gives me useful tips when I need them.

Find a Friend
If it is hard to find the motivation to pick up a sport and stick to it by yourself, doing it with someone else will motivate you. There are a million reasons to cancel a training session, but if there is someone else that does the activity with you, then it is a bit more difficult to cancel, as you would let that other person down, too. This is why I love competing, because it gives me a goal to work towards and keeps me further motivated to train every day of the week. There are some days that even I don’t feel like training and knowing that there is some competition coming makes that feeling go away.

  Be Grateful
Be grateful for what you have and where you are at in your life. It helps to remain positive and it starts you off well for the day. It also makes you appreciate what you have already achieved to date. I am a big believer in the laws of attraction; the more positive thoughts we have, the more positive things will happen in your life.
If we are honest, it is impossible to be positive 365 days of the year; we all have our off days. Remember that it is OK to not always be OK; we aren’t and don’t have to be perfect.
Love Yourself at Any Shape
As women, we are over critical of how we look. I was a size 6-8 in my 20s and thought that I was too fat. I could never be happy because I was constantly chasing smaller numbers on the scale. Now, when I look back at pictures of myself then, I think that I looked gorgeous. I should have appreciated myself. I learned from my mistakes and decided to first love how I look before I considered changing my habits and adopting a new healthier lifestyle.

A sustainable weight loss and body transformation journey takes time; ideally up to a year depending on your starting point and how much weight you have to lose. Don’t wait until you have reached your final goal to start appreciating and loving who you are. You are more likely to succeed if you have a healthy and loving relationship with yourself from the beginning.
keeping a great style at any size

Be Patient
Unfortunately, losing weight is a long process and trying to do it quickly won’t do you any favours. Quick fixes and fad diets are temporary solutions. We have all probably tried a quick fix at least once. I have done many of them, failed, and put all the weight (and some extra) back on again. So, I know from personal experience that it is not the best approach.
Give yourself plenty of time to be consistent. A successful entrepreneur once said, “Simple things done consistently and over time leads to amazing results.” To me, this is the BEST approach, always. You will appreciate it more and feel good during the whole process.
Conclusion
I thought that I could eat peanut butter and bread while training for a marathon; overindulging (even though I was training hard at the time) leads to putting weight back on. It is good to be mindful that it is a long journey and its ups and downs. I have made mistakes, so will you. It is important that you learn from them.
As stated before, working to lose weight and going on a healthy lifestyle journey is a long process Keeping these 10 tips in mind and learning from my mistakes will help you in the long run.
Thanks for reading!

Delirium - 2016
This was an awesome, amazing fucking album, and I’m sorry I took so long to get it/review it.  I got this bad boy as a birthday present for myself in April of 2017, but this came out a year ago, around the time that I finally reviewed Broken Crown Halo, I think.
Anyway, this album absolutely brings back the old sound with heavy double kicks right at the get-go.  There’s definitely a fair amount of Karmacode & Dark Adrenaline in here, and I’m very okay with that.  Broken Crown Halo was a good album, but it was quite subdued in comparison.  This time, I feel like they really wanted to kick ass.  And they definitely brought their A Game to most of the songs.  (I say most, because there’s at least 1 clunker in there for me.  But it’s still good.)  There’s a great flow in this whole album.  They definitely set the tone for something dark, heavy and beautiful and once again, I am completely inspired by this wonderful band.
This might even be my favorite album by them.  [I tried to wait a while before reviewing this I think, so my review wouldn’t be completely biased.]
Since nearly every song is a fan-favorite on this one, I’m gonna take you through them very quickly.
1. The House of Shame - We start with some very pretty, solemn and haunting “Oh”s from a chorus of voices (probably produced by a Synthesizer.)  Then the heavy metal double pedaling and crushing guitars kick in relentlessly.  When the verse really starts up, Andrea takes the lead on this one.  Cristina Scabbia takes on a pre-chorus that leads into a very catchy main chorus.  The synthesized orchestra is in there, and everything is gorgeous.  Then we’re taken right back to the sweet double pedals and repeat the formula once again.  After the next chorus, there’s a quick guitar solo that’s nice and exhilarating as we get into a double-pedal break down.  When I first heard this I was super excited.  Then everything stops to give Cristina a solo moment to sing the chorus without any instruments save for the orchestral synth.  The instruments join up again for a final chorus and then the sweet double pedal part rolls in again, before we close it off with an exciting ending.
2. Broken Things - This one started with a bit of a bold move by Andrea.  It’s just voice and guitar.  “Now SUUUNK in the Horizon!  We’ll watch the hours go by.  Faaaall and then arise again.  I hear the darkness breathe!!”
When I first heard that I was like, “ooh...  I dunno.”  But then the rest of the instruments join with some heavy pedaling and riffing.  [I noticed that they definitely got a lot more ‘Metal-core’ for this album.  All the typical off-beat pedaling and whatnot, almost made this band unrecognizable for this album.  But there’s definitely that Lacuna touch to it that makes this song pretty and listenable again.  And that would happen at the 37 second mark.  Suddenly the drums calm down, and a single stringing guitar leads the line with a little synth behind it for backbone.  Cristina leads us off with a nice verse, then goes into an awesome little chorus.  No idea what she’s singing about, but it’s fun.
Andrea comes back in with his familiar refrain, but you couldn’t call it a Chorus. Because Scabbia kicks back in with the now-familiar verse and Her Chorus.  And it’s definitely way catchier than Andreas.  Anyway, this song is very cool and a lot of fun to listen to once you get into it.
3. Delirium - Then comes this guy.  The title track.  And it’s amazing.  You just have to get over a strange sound effect in the background that they used all the way back in Shallow Life.  There’s like a very high voice, which sounds like Cristina using a vocoder or something.  It’s squeaky and almost annoying, but it somehow suits the song because it’s far enough in the background not to get in the way.
Anyway, they don’t waste a minute for Cristina to start singing, “Deliiiirium”.  Then Andrea takes the verse to set a nice sweet, moving, but calm tone.  This song is heavy, and I suppose a little mellow, but it’s doesn’t slow down any.  It’s just nice and dark.  Verses, flow right back into Cristina’s “Deliiiirium”s.  She woos us with a beautiful break-refrain.  This song ends almost as soon as it starts, but it’s just awesome.  The flow is the same throughout and I’m okay with that.
4. Blood, Tears, Dust -   Hands down, my FAVORITE song on this album.  They definitely get new here and use a little bit of Dub-step to their advantage here, but I like it a lot.  First of all...  Andrea’s growls are back.  (That was apparent in the first song too.)  But secondly, there’s just this awesome riffing going on.  Almost Fear Factory-esq.  After Andrea’s growls, Cristina’s beautiful vocals pool in for a Chorus.  And I swear, I feel like I’m listening to them for the first time again.  This is the band I discovered half my life ago at 16.  It was such an awesome feeling.
This song rinses and repeats in this fashion, but it is honestly such a pleasure to keep hearing that chorus.  Cristina picked such nice notes in the higher range in such an order that I keep wanting to hear it.  The backing parts too.  Everything is hypnotic in this song for me.  I don’t tire of it.
5. Downfall - Then we get this song.  ANOTHER Favorite.  Lacuna Coil fucking rock out with guitars and bass chiming in with 16th note strumming.  But the backbeat is mid-paced and down beat. There’s a nice calm synth really holding everything together as Cristina rolls us through the verse and chorus for this one.  Agh!  The guitars are so good in this one.  Andrea offers light back-ups here only sometimes.  And they really add to the song.  I fucking love this band man.  They fucking did it again.
6.  Take Me Home - ...This one, is the one clunker though.  For whatever reason, they decided to start in a child’s chant.  One of those ‘nya nya nya nya’ things...  And it’s awful.  Creepy sounds chime in 13 seconds in, with a guitar.  Then Andrea takes over chanting, “Take me for a Riiiiiide!”  That’s when the song really kicks in, and I guess it’s better, but I still have the bad taste in my mouth from that weird chant.
Andrea controls a verse that I don’t care about.  It’s mostly drum and bass with little guitar inclusion.  The guitars kick back in for a Chorus, that feels lost on me from such an awkward beginning.  Cristina sings it, and it doesn’t sound good to me.  It’s somewhat fast, and a little uninspired in my opinion.  [I feel like whoever wrote this one definitely doesn’t usually do the writing in the band.]
Uhhh, I think there’s a break-riff that’s a little bit better by the end of the song.  But honestly, every time I listen to it, I just go through the motions.  This one is a complete skipper for me.
Although, if you do stick around for the end, I suppose it flows into the next song, which is Way better.
7. You Love Me ‘Cause I Hate You -  This song is a power ballad, that at first sounds like it won’t go very far.  It’s good..  Cristina leads us in with a verse that doesn’t stop.  The drums are slow, but powerful, if not a little processed.  But then suddenly Andrea interrupts with a hard, “YOU LOVE ME ‘CAUSE I HAAATE YOOOUUUU”, and Cristina rolls with it in the background, beautifully.
The 2nd verse, is just as good as the first, with the rest of the instruments a smidge more awake and heavy.  That 2nd Refrain kicks in and it’s just as awesome as the first time.  After the refrain, Cristina sings a new part, which I guess would be considered the bridge.  We get a 3rd “YOU LOVE ME ‘CAUSE I HATE YOU” and it’s just wonderful.  Very easy to learn, and sing along to.  Very cathartic, and yet still beautiful and almost calming.  I love it.
8.  Ghost In The Mist -  This one is way more metal-core, bring back a little of those ‘Blood, Tears, Dust’ effects.  I notice that LC have a bad habit of writing songs in the chromatic scale sometimes, and that definitely happens this time, after there Dub-steppy part.  There’s a bunch of half-steps that climb up in a verse, which just sort of bother me.  But then the part after that is very pretty.  The chorus by Scabbia, of course.
By the 2nd go-around, the half-step part isn’t as annoying.  You’re sucked into the formula at this point, and enough parts are enjoyable to cohesively keep it all together.  So this one isn’t my favorite, but it’s still enjoyable.
9. My Demons -  This is a gorgeous power ballad/dub-step/metal core tune.  They really embraced this new hybrid sound of theirs.  They evolved...  And Andrea’s refrain is easy to keep in your head.  “I feel fucked up today. My demons cursing me as I’m awake.  My head is spinning, I can’t think straight! Your words are poison inside my veins!” He continues with a “You liiieeeed”, and a little bit more, before it’s Cristina’s turn.  And even then, he sings, “You lieeeed”, which really makes this feel like a nice collaboration between the two.
They’re both singing the chorus.  Him the back-ups, while she gets into this beautiful part.  “I’m thinking about you, uncertain without you” “...I’m choking without you,”.
It’s very good.  This is the mellow part of the band that I signed up for.  Even their mellow numbers are fucking heavy on this one man.  I love it.
10.  Claustrophobia -  Another ballad/metal-core mix.  More subdued than the last, Cristina leads off a whole bunch of verses, about “Is Hate the Answer”, etc. etc.  These songs definitely fit more into the Broken Crown Halo set, which is fine.  I welcome it.  A very good power-ballad with an awesome guitar solo to boot.  i really like the end of this song more.  There’s a nice little instrumental break moment, where there’s all sorts of dubby metal-core things happening.  A cool sound in the synth gluing it together, before the final refrains.  It’s also chilling to hear Cristina close it off with, “Will hate be the Answer?”
Very topical.
11. Ultima Ratio - This song, honestly sounds like it could be the last one at first, but there’s plenty more before we’re done done.  The verse is sort of whatever with Andrea, but Cristina kicks in with a small pre-chorus and then an awesome Main Chorus.  “Save me, before I fall apart.  Come closer to me, while I’m still alive.”  Then she does this really graceful thing with her voice as she sings, “It neee---eee-ver Eeee-eends”  twice.  It literally makes the song man.  I fucking love that choice.  This totally could’ve been their last song of the album.  And maybe it should’ve been.  But we got even better things coming up.
12.  Live To Tell -  This is a Madonna cover if you can believe it!  When I first heard it, I had no idea.  Then I heard the actual song on the radio, and got all fucked up when I heard the familiar chorus.  Which is an attestant to Lacuna Coil.  We’ve brought it up before.  It seems that on all of their Even Number albums, ever since ‘Unleashed Memories’, they do a cover.  That’s just their thing.  And I love that they’ve kept it up.  Yet again, they fucking nailed it, with something solid and incredible.  Blowing the original song out of the water.
She super slowed down Madonna’s verses.  There’s a whole different musical part underneath basically.  When the chorus kicks in, it resembles Madonna’s version, but it’s very slow with significant back-ups that shape the chorus more.  They practically dominate the song to really shape it into it’s own original version.
And again... I had no idea this was a cover at first.  I thought LC just nailed it with a beautiful power ballad once again.  I love the bridge where guitars and drums stop.  It’s just synth and her, when Cristina sings, “If I run away, I never have the strength, to go very far.  How will they hear the beating of my heart?  Will it grow cold?  The secret that I hide.  Will I grow old? How will they hear? When will they learn? How will they knoooow?”
It’s fucking awesome man.  Really beautiful.  Gorgeous.  Amazing cover.
13.  Breakdown - By this point, the album’s already done for me.  They wowed us so much already!  But there’s 2 more.  This song is somewhat of a solemn, heavy after-thought to ‘Live to Tell’.  Another one that’s good, but not my favorite.  We heavy Cristina and Andrea handling the verse with call and response type stuff.  Then she controls the chorus, and it’s just sort of whatever.  Not a bad song though.  It just sort of feels tacked on to me, to  be honest.  There’s a very cool bridge though.  It keeps buildings and gets heavier.  Andrea even has a solo moment to shine with awesome growls before a final chorus.
14.  Bleed the Pain -  This is our last song, proper and it falls flat for me.  It’s not a bad song at all, but somehow, I feel like we got this already in ‘Ultima Ratio’.  The songs don’t even sound the same, but there was something of a finality to that riff for me for some reason.
Anyway... this one is pretty Metal-core for an ending.  Definitely a different choice.  Andrea definitely went for it on his back-ups.  Cristina did her usual catchy pretty vox for the chorus.  More metal-core strumming and pedaling, in full sync.  This more-less rinses and repeats until we come to a close.
...and that’s the album!
Every time that last song ends I feel like there’s something coming next.  But I get surprised to hear track 1 again.  Either way though, there’s at least 8 solid songs on this disc for me that makes it More than worth it.
And how about that Madonna cover man?  Shit!  At this point there’s an EP’s worth of material, if you just wanted to put together all of their covers on a disc for yourself.
[That would be: Stars from ‘Unleashed Memories’ Enjoy the Silence from ‘Karmacode’ Losing My Religion from ‘Dark Adrenaline’ and now Live to Tell from ‘Delirium’]
And that’s every other album folks.
Lacuna has been rocking us for 8 solid fucking albums.  That’s amazing man.  They’ve had a lull here and there in their career, maybe.  But they are still Very on top of their game.  And I’m definitely just as into them as I was when I was a teenage boy.
It’s a shame that this review took such a long time to do, but I’m glad I was in the mood to give this one a spin and a critique today.
Now my Lacuna Coil queue is done for the moment, and I’m very much looking forward to whenever the next album comes out.  [They can take their time. lol]
