Danny Fenton Football Captain and the East Coast Vampire
Chapter 8: To Bloom Madly
You can read the entire fic on A03, FF.net, or Wattpad.
Two weeks had passed since the old playground was set ablaze, and time moved like a spinning top. Danny hasn’t seen any ghosts since the attack and it let him focus on other things, like Valerie. Last week they had a library date where she helped him catch up on homework, and he did everything he could to distract her. Her laughter rang in his ears like a melody, creating a small fire in his chest. The feeling carried him through his classes, and football practice, and even now in a game he couldn’t stop trying to look to the bleachers to see her cheering him on.
Tonight’s game was the Casper High Ravens versus the Pineville Cyclones. The Raven’s red and white uniforms stood against the black and gold of the Cyclones with a vigor that did not match the score. Ravens 5,  Cyclones 1. It was the fourth quarter and the Cyclones were on the defensive, their boys trying to create pinch points to trap Danny in, but Dash had slipped behind the line, his arms waving for the ball. Danny threw it at him, before he was grabbed at the waist and yanked down. The crowd screamed when Dash got to the end goal.
Danny got up and high fived Dash, the two quickly falling into formation. At the whistle the ball was off and Danny caught it, running down the field and jumping over the other players who threw themselves at him. He threw the ball to Brian, who then threw it to Dash and then it was back to Danny. He could see the goal line when something caught his eye. Above him were three green birds. Each was larger than any normal vulture and on their heads were red fezs. Danny was baffled at what he saw before him. Until he was tackled into the field. The referee blew his whistle as three more guys stacked on top of him. The crowd's reaction was sour to that, many hissing in pain as more players landed on Danny.
The Ravens won but Danny was not so lucky.
“You okay Cap, or did you get lost in the stars .” Brian burst in laughter.
“Maybe he was too busy looking at his new girl,” Tyrone mocked.
“Aww, our sweet Captain, his mind and heart stolen from us by a fair maiden,” Brian threw the towel of her his head and began to make kissing faces.
“Cut it out, man. I just spaced out for a moment,” Danny said.
“Oh Captain, oh Captain, it is I Miss. Valerie Gray, look at me and all my muscles and ass,” Brain danced around the locker room, blowing kisses at Danny.
Danny rolled his eyes and twisted his towel and whipped it at Brian’s ass. A very unmanely eep! Came out of his mouth. The whole team burst into laughter.
“Bro what was that?” Tyrone said.
“That hurt! What the hell Cap!”
“Talk shit, get shit Brian,” Danny said. “Anyways I have to go, see your virgins later.”
“Bye Cap!”
    Danny quickly texted Kwan.
SpaceGhostDanny: I saw some ghost during the game. I’m gonna go see if I can find them. I'll text you what I find.
OneSunnyBoy: Do you need backup?
SpaceGhostDanny: I don’t think so, it was just three birds. I should be fine.
He transformed and took off into the sky. Amity Park was in it’s full fall regalia. Jack O Lanterns decorated doorsteps, and autumn leaves wrapped themselves around the lamp posts. The air was becoming colder and he could see his breath even when there wasn’t a ghost around. Up in the night air it was quiet, and peaceful.
On the old clock tower sat the three large vultures. Each one had the heads of old men attached to their bird necks. The oldest one wore a pair of round glasses on his face. His green wings moved the golden tassel out of the way of his face, as he examined a paper map.
“You don’t know where you are going!” The smallest one cried.
“Shut up! I know exactly where we are going!”
“If you did then we wouldn’t be flying around for hours. Look, there is a kid up ahead. Ask him for directions.”
“No, I got it! I got it! I got it!” The three took flight and soared over the town. Danny followed them. The three vultures phased through a city bus, perching on the back seats. The few people on the bus didn’t take any notice. The Man on the bus was reading a paper that read: Serial arsonist in Amity Park? While a woman sat near the front scrolling through her phone.
“Now, if we look at the map, we have to go north, or maybe south.” The oldest bird mumbled to himself.
“Just admit you don’t know where you are going.” The smallest screamed.
“Do you guys need help?” Danny asked.
“See, you got this lad here who is willing to help us, ask him!”
“Fine, I’ll ask him if it gets you to shut up. Hey Kid, do you know where these folks are? Our Master asked us to umm make them sleep with the fishes. If you know what I mean kid.” Danny took the photo from the bird. It was ripped leaving only two figures left in the frame. It was his parents, but they were much younger and had more hair. His father was still wearing that dumb custom orange hazmat suit, but his mom was in normal clothes. A pink tank top on top of a blue tank top, jeans, and a lab coat.
“These are my parents. Why do you have a photo of my parents?” Danny said.
“See I told you he can help us.” The smaller one said.
“Ugh I’ll never hear the end of it. Boy can you tell us where they are?”
“No! That’s my parents,” Danny said.
“See Gerald? This is what happens when I listen to you,”
Danny phased through the bus and took off into the air. The birds were soon to follow.
“We can just rough him up to get the information,” Gerald said. The birds began to swoop around him, using their beaks as swords to cut through his body. Danny dogged the bird and grabbed the neck of the second. Using it as a bat to attack the other two. After a few beating Danny grabbed all of them by the neck and sent them flying into the  night.
“And stay out!” Danny said.
Danny’s home was a large brick town house on the corner of gaudy and trash. His parents had modified the town house to have a large neon sign that read Fenton works and on top of the building they built a large metallic command center that stuck out like a sore thumb. There had been several petitions throughout the years to get rid of it, but his parents refused. Danny never went up there and even he didn't know what the ugly thing was for.
Inside the house, everything was decorated in a retro futuristic style, with hanging modern lights and round armless couches. His parents sat in the living room watching the nightly news.
“Hey Danny, you’re home late,” His mom said.
“Yeah, I had a game tonight,” Danny said. He shoved the picture into his back pocket.
“Was that today? Oh I’m sorry Danny, I thought it was tomorrow,” His Dad said.
“It’s okay. I have another one next month,” Danny said, waving goodnight.

True-Crime "Paper Ghosts" & Through The Flames About NFL's Reggie White
Tumblr media
The recent release of these two podcasts (one new and one in its fourth season) reveals the diversity inherent in the true-crime genre. We have one classic true-crime podcast about two missing young people in the Ozarks. Then we have the firebombing of a church run by a famous NFL player, the late Reggie White.
What we learn from both podcasts is that crime can have disparate motivations, ranging from hate to psychopathy, and racism to arson.
******************************************** First up, is a returning podcast from an award-winning, New York Times bestselling author of 40-plus true-Crime books and chart-topping podcaster M. William Phelps. In this new season, Phelps confronts a new suspect in two unsolved Ozarks missing persons/murder cases.
The investigative true-crime iHeartPodcast “Paper Ghosts,” is back for its fourth season. Executive-produced, written and hosted by M. William Phelps, “Paper Ghosts” is known for uncovering new, breaking information in cold cases and bringing victims’ families answers in investigations otherwise long stalled out. Phelps is known for getting new and primary sources, and victim family members, who have not generally opened-up about the nuances of the cases, to reveal long-held secrets and exclusive information, sending dormant cases toward resolution with new suspects. The 8-part series will also include several special bonus episodes.
Season four of “Paper Ghosts” will take listeners deep into the heart of the Ozarks: Bella Vista, Arkansas and Pineville, Missouri. Phelps will put boots on the ground, investigating 18-year-old Dana Stidham’s 1989 murder and 22-year-old Shauna “Grace Doe” Garber’s 1990 murder. He will bring listeners authentic, jaw-dropping moments, with never-before-heard archival law enforcement audio, revealing previously unknown information about these 30-plus-year-old cold cases. Culled from over 50 hours of interviews, aside from Phelps’s regular cast of sources—friends and family members of the victims; law enforcement; cleared suspects; prosecutors and attorneys; journalists; and more—Phelps will unearth a potential new suspect and will confront the man with the evidence he’s gathered against him. “I’ve been a victims’ advocate my entire career, and crime victims’ stories are at the forefront of what I do,” says host M. William Phelps. “In ‘Paper Ghosts,’ I’ve always strived to tell the underlying story of what happened and who is responsible. The unexpected always comes up. I spend years on these cases, developing sources, digging for new information, with the goal of finding answers for family members. This season, I made it a priority not to settle for the long-held beliefs that these cases are unsolvable—which includes a direct connection to Dennis ‘BTK’ Rader, and a confrontation with a man I believe could be a prolific serial killer responsible for many additional murders.” New episodes will be released Wednesdays for the next seven weeks. Listen now HERE ********************************************** This next podcast is part true-crime, part-sports, part-primer on racial hate podcast. ESPN’s 30 for 30 and Andscape have partnered on a new podcast, Through The Flames: Reggie's Church, highlighting the NFL Hall of Famer, Reggie White.
The podcast follows ESPN’s 30 for 30 installments on White, THE MINISTER OF DEFENSE, directed by Ken Rodgers (Bullies of Baltimore, The Tuck Rule, The Two Bills) and Courtland Bragg (Hard Knocks: Training Camp, Hard Knocks: In-Season, All or Nothing), chronicling the extraordinary career, complicated life, and profound spiritual journey of NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion Reggie White now streaming on ESPN+.
Tumblr media
NFL Films producer Courtland Bragg investigates the mysterious 1996 burning of Reggie White’s church in Knoxville, Tennessee, and in the process, shines a light on the greater legacy of the NFL Hall of Famer.
In the midst of a rash of mid-1990s church burnings across the United States, White’s Inner City Church boasts a growing interracial congregation, and after the building is firebombed and reduced to ashes, White believes the attack is the work of racists.
The NFL legend and pastor uses his platform to maintain public pressure on the investigation, even as the sensitive nature of the crime causes government officials to tread carefully. As the story unfolds, questions are raised about the church’s financial status, along with the possibility of arson.
Bragg says, “I am excited to continue shedding light on the broader legacy of Reggie White. This podcast is personal to me and is more than just exploring a crime, it is a journey that reveals the deeper challenges our nation continues to grapple with today.”
The podcast brings the story to life through the voices of those involved with the church and the investigation – and in the process, draws a powerful parallel between these ugly incidents and the deeper challenges the nation still faces.

A local charity in the small town of Pineville is making waves with their latest campaign to bring relief to a group of ghosts who have been living in poverty for years.
The charity, known as Friends of the Needy Ghosts, is dedicated to helping spirits who have fallen on hard times. According to the charity, the ghosts are living in dire conditions, with no access to food or shelter.
In an effort to help these needy ghosts, the charity has launched a fundraiser to raise money for a permanent home for them. The home will be built with the help of a mysterious puffy man, who is said to be a spirit himself.
The puffy man, whose real name is unknown, has offered to help build a home for the ghosts, free of charge. He has also promised to provide food, clothing, and other necessities to the ghosts, which will be funded by the charity's fundraiser.
The charity hopes to raise enough money to build the home and provide for the ghosts' needs. Those interested in donating can do so through the charity's website or by sending a check to the charity's address.
The charity's founder, James Smith, said he is optimistic about the fundraiser's success.
"It's a great thing that we can help these needy ghosts," Smith said. "They deserve a place to live and the chance to get back on their feet."

Chopper Sweeney never really believed in ghosts…until one started believing in him. Chopper and his friends, Hank and Glory, set off to solve the case of Simon Stillwater, but what starts as a small-town adventure quickly turns into a standoff with the supernatural. Adapted by LCT’s Jeremy Kisling and author of the graphic novels and co-founder of Cricket Press Sara Turner, this locally grown ghost story will have all of Pineville on pins and needles. So, join us on this one-of-a-kind adventure that you can now enjoy from the comfort of your own home!
By Sara Turner and Jeremy Kisling Adapted from the graphic novels by Sara Turner
For ages 8 and up and best enjoyed by grades 3 and up

The Witching Hour - Part I & II
Now available!! And will be at Small Press Expo this weekend!! The Witching Hour has many meanings: According to folklore, it is the time of night  associated with supernatural events. According to witchcraft, it signifies the time when magic can be its most effective. According to others, it’s simply a period of bad luck. For Chopper, Hank, and Glory it is when the veil between our world and the dead is its thinnest and the perfect time to communicate with the ghosts of Pineville. Unfortunately for  them, their older siblings have decided to tag-along and make sure they all keep out of real trouble. If only they had stuck together…
As Part 1 is a LOVE story…Part 2 is a story about FRIENDSHIP…old and new.
