My family doesn't have a good history with the paranormals. When I was seven, my sister got kidnapped by a vampire. Years earlier, my aunt disappeared with a faerie. The sight of them with a supernatural was the last any one of us could witness. It's as if they were erased from existence.
Mom and Dad try to equip me against these creatures. The idea that one of us will disappear again is too much to bear. But when a certain supernatural comes into my life, revealing a lot more about me that my family could ever know, I wonder if all those years of training could prepare me enough for this.

Hi! Yes, it is cisgender female by default and with the terms or scenes it can be optional like fade to black or censored, if uncomfortable.

whitefang and i started playing baldurs gate finally and my first thoughts are 1. i figured it had an actual storyline of some sort but absolutely nothing with the worms and such have ever been mentioned in any kind of post ive seen. a bit shocking. funny to find out seemingly literally everybody you can be friends with has a brain worm. 2. shadowhearts voice is way higher pitched than i had expected it to be 3. character creator kinda sucks. ngl. like its cool and all and i think its fun to get to choose my penis but its just not enough variety yet too much variety. like theres just not enough control why do i have to pick from 5 preset faces without even like any adjustment sliders. also where the fuck are all the pigtails? you guys never heard of someone wanting to be a tiefling with pigtails? grow up.

I'm probably gonna get reamed for this, but I really feel like if you're making a series where you can choose your gender and has a mechanic where you can experience 'extra' scenes with the capture targets/partners, then you shouldn't gender lock it. If you wanted to make it so that only the female choice gets 'extra' scenes with all of the capture targets but the male choice only gets the female capture targets, then what's the point? Just make it so that the main character is female and move on instead of trying to enforce 'oh! You can choose male or female and romance everyone!' but lie out of your ass because in reality you can only romance half and the other gives you a fistbump for falling in love with them and not treating your confession seriously.
Also! The same is true for the male adjacent choice being the supposed 'focus' and having a female choice but all the female capture targets/partners say 'oh we're not into men but you're special ;)' to the male choice and 'oh yeah we can totally grow you a dick to have sex with' if you choose the female character! What! Is! The! Point!

Probably not to the point of being called names in MC’s face or getting physically violent about it, but homophobia will be expressed by fans and the media if MC gets outed (or goes public with the news). As for the extent, it’ll go as far as questions and reactions on the internet.

There comes a point with new books consistently being genderlocked as women and having both male and female LI options that it starts to really look like Pixelberry thinks gay men are "icky". I know male MCs are played less often but come the frick on, Pixelberry, you've coded books with multiple MC genders and multiple species with unique powers before. At least TWICE!
It's absurd that a game with mostly pre-made assets and finished code can't handle adding a male option to a story when they've proven that they can handle multiple pronoun options and genders in the past.
Generally speaking, I do not enjoy playing as a woman in Pixelberry smutty stories because they make a lot of assumptions about the anatomy of my characters and go into details that throw me out of the scene and/or make me dysphoric.
If you won't let me mark my character as a trans woman, I can't play a self insert character, so at least let me play as a gay man and/or non-binary person more often.

Which like also, ik it's not the situation but to me, a known homosexual, the parallels in his behaviour and someone who's unwilling and afraid to risk their friendship because of internalised homophobia and fear that the other person won't, can't feel the same way...I want to be with you but I've convinced myself I can never, it would be wrong, so I try to convince myself I'm content with being friends but then when I see that potential between you and someone who would be easier, who would make sense, it *hurts*...👀👀

This is really funny to me because if you play a male, non binary, and/or trans MC then yeah. That's literally the vibe ajsjsjd Rook knows he isn't straight and has even dated a guy once in high school, but for various reasons, definitely isn't out about it.
Also alas a female or nonbinary Rook would literally be a completely different character due to how much of himself is kinda anchored around being a guy. A lot of his personality is built up around "this is how teen/college guys act so I'm going to mirror it." F!Rook would have been the same, and nb!Rook is....complicated ajsjs. Also hate to say it but his mom would not have cared as much about f!rook and Rook's dad would have gotten custody a lot sooner, making f!Rook significantly more willing to be open and slightly less traumatized lmaO
But yeah, changing Rook's gender wouldn't be just like changing flavor text and having slight differences, it would be totally changing parts of his backstory, his personality, and even parts of his BA subplot (especially for nb Rook, seeing as nb!Rook would probably be them having to realize they're non binary in the first place ajsjs). Gender just has a significant impact on his character, for better or for worse.

Among the Haunted is a game created for Halloween 2023! A collaboration between Aurelia Lim and Alby Writes Fiction, the game is centered on you, a single parent, raising two kids while celebrating the spooky day your own way. The game is currently released, but will go through updates once the jams are finished!

No offense or nothing, but I feel like this IF would be good with MC locked as female. It's just... it is difficult for me to imagine a man in the role of Psyche 😞 But I'm going to check it anyway, if there will be a demo.
Will there be any differences in how MC will be treated when it comes to gender?
hey anon! no offense taken, this was something i debated when i was researching into the myth!
yes, psyche is a female going by the actual myths, and it does make MORE sense, but i don't want to genderlock psyche just for that reason. this game follows the myth at its core, but i have so many added things that, yeah, yk!
no, there won't be any changes in how PC is treated. there will be changes in how i describe things, obviously, and i'll use different terms.
this is mainly just because i don't want readers to feel uncomfortable playing a gender they aren't interested in playing, and there might be some 🔥🔥 scenes (totally unskippable/fade-to-black) so i wanted to give people options!
demo comes out May 2nd if all comes according to plan!
