Alby's Writings Discord Server

Hello again!

As I said in the previous post, I’ve made a Discord server while I’ve been slowly chipping away at Chapter 1 Part 3 😄 Once again, special thanks to my lil bro @system-operations for being my guinea pig as I worked on and tested out the server 🤭

In case you haven’t seen what I wrote in that post about the server, here’s what I said about it:

So, part of the reason why it’s been difficult for me to do stuff on Tumblr is because my access to it is rather limited now due to personal stuff; it’s nothing bad, don’t worry, and it’s not because I’ve been doing anything shady or illegal (I think it’d be the shock of the century to people who know me if they ever heard that I did something like that 😅). It’s just personal stuff 😅

I also think that part of why I’ve been overwhelmed with Tumblr stuff is because of the similar asks that start to pile up the longer that I’m unable to answer them, which is why I’ve set up some forum channels in the server where people can send questions and feedback and you guys can see what questions have been asked and which ones have been answered, especially without needing to wonder if I received your questions and answered them or not.

But the main purpose of this server is to provide a lil space where you guys can hang out and maybe interact with each other and with me :3 I’ve got a few things planned for server activities:

Game Night: We would play some of the games in Discord Activities and some other online browser games like Red Flags and Cards Against Humanity

Watch Party: We would watch some animes that are available on Youtube (such as Campfire Cooking in Another World [100/10 great anime in my opinion we stan wholesomeness in this household]) and Starkid musicals (the Hatchetfield trilogy is fire y’all), and probably some other Youtube stuff

Study With Me: Just popping into a voice channel and playing some music while I study helps me quite a lot apparently, so if that works for any of you who might join the server, it’s a-okay if you wanna join in :3

But of course, participation in these activities is very much optional! It’s okay if you’d prefer to lurk, I’m a lurker myself in most of the other servers I’ve joined 😅

However, I do want to make it very clear now that this will be an 18+ server, as it will not only be for ATE but also for the other IF projects that I have planned, some of which will contain content that is not suitable for minors. So just to be sure, I’ve decided to restrict the server to those 18 and above. Please, for any underage followers that I may have, do not lie about your age if you join because I will have to remove you from the server. You have been warned.

So now that I’ve laid out the stuff with Discord, you might be wondering what’s gonna happen with the Tumblr asks after I’ve answered the stuff in my inbox. Well, here’s what I’m planning to do:

Step 1: Compile all Tumblr asks into a Google doc Step 2: Add any Discord asks into same Google doc Step 3: Share the Google doc for public viewing Step 4: Re-open Tumblr ask box Step 5: Update the Google doc as I receive future asks from both Tumblr and Discord, even if I’m unable to answer the questions immediately

This way, everyone can see the asks, whether or not you’ve got Discord or Tumblr, and the search for the asks is gonna be a lot more efficient!

So long, Tumblr search, hellooo my old buddy ctrl/cmd+f!

TLDR: I have made a Discord server that I’ll be maintaining on a more regular basis compared to Tumblr, set up some forum channels that function similarly to Reddit where people can send feedback and questions, got some plans for server activities (participation is optional!), and restricted server access to those who are aged 18 and above.

Hello everyone! It’s been quite a while, hasn’t it? 😅

Well, time for us to take a seat and talk, ‘cause I’ve got some news for y’all. Dunno if this is going to be good or bad news to you guys, so I’m just calling it news

1. I’m not going to be very active on Tumblr, at least for the foreseeable future.

It has honestly been rather challenging for me to juggle acads, orch, personal stuff, writing, and managing this blog all together, so for the sake of my sanity, I’ve made the tough decision to take a few steps back from posting content here.

2. I’ll be closing the ask box for a while.

Since I haven’t been able to answer asks for a month or two, I now have a backlog of asks to go through. The number of asks I have in my inbox is rather overwhelming to me, to be honest 😅 And some of them are similar to others that have been sent previously, which I feel bad about because it’s like, wasted time, y'know, like, you wouldn't have needed to ask a similar question if i had answered the first one 😓

And some similar questions I haven’t been able to answer because they’re questions that I need time (and the brainpower honestly) to answer. 😓

So until I’ve cleared out my Tumblr inbox, I’ll be closing the ask box.

The demo has finally been released! Check it out here.

Prologue Part One is finally done! Although I have to say, I am not completely satisfied with the game right now, but they are honestly minor edits that will be fixed in the future.

In this part, you can begin to customize yourself, get introduced to the members of ST4RDOM, and meet two of the ROs. Not much drama actually happens; more interesting content will be in the second part.

If there are any bugs, typos, or things that can be fixed in the demo, please let me know! I would appreciate it a lot.

Hi Alby! The second part was so good! ((SPOILERS FOR ÆDRIC ROUTE))

I have a question about Ædric’s proposal though- will he and MC be biding their time before announcing it? Just concerned about the optics if they are framing it as them marrying for love it does look suspicious that right after Ædan’s wedding they get engaged, and I think the pro-Helene public would be quick to assume MC was cheating on Ædan with his brother while they were engaged.

I've actually been working on those details while my brain's still figuring out how to write Part 3, but they're very much still a work in progress 😅 But what I can tell you right now is that the people will find out about their engagement very soon, and Ædric’s gonna be reaaaaaal petty about it 🤣 I love how petty this man is turning out to be 😂

I know I've been referencing Les Mis for the past two update announcements, but Ædric wouldn't risk the lives of his countrymen just to take the throne from Ædan; after all, he wants to take the throne so he can be in a better position to help his people.

His ultimate dream is to make enough of a difference so that the future generations will never have to live in a world where they're forced to watch their loved ones succumb to their illnesses because they couldn't afford the necessary healthcare, where they're rendered helpless at the feet of those who have the power to change thousands of lives for the better but instead use that power to satisfy their own vices, where they're driven to the brink of desperation and resort to committing unspeakable acts against even their own family members.

He knows that it's an idealistic dream, but Ædric is nothing if not determined. And no matter how many people tell him that his actions will never even make a dent in the kingdom's history, he will remain steadfast in his mission to make a difference, a good difference, in as many people's lives as he can until it's time for him to join the stars in the sky.

I plan on doing a Helena route if you do decide to create one, because I am petty and honestly, what better revenge on a cheater than stealing his mistress? I'll even have Helena wear the same/a similar wedding dress and have the MC wear the same/a similar suit that was worn (and was supposed to be worn at MC and Ædan's wedding) at Helena and Ædan's wedding, for their wedding. Maybe even the same decorations and everything, and the same priest to officiate the wedding. Ædan will be invited. :)

AN: thank you so much for the patience - i've been dying to put this update out. lots of new characters and lots of variation!! there are 3 major paths to choose between in this ep, i recommend trying them all out! and thank you to my betas for keeping me sane lmao

This update comes with a patch and UI refresh (Version 1.1.2) Notes are under the cut. If preferred, you can access them in game in the start menu.

STORY

EPISODE 01:

MC should now be able to smoke! Buying cigarettes at the shop was not triggering correctly. If playing with an old save, you DO NOT have to restart as code at the beginning of EP 03 has resolved the error. Player will need to restart if they wish to read smoking related scenes in previous episodes.

Updated MC Name selection. Player can now choose from a list of names instead of having to input one to proceed.

Player can now give Taha their chocolate bar if it's in their inventory.

When asking Maz about their scars, the second choice 'You want to ask about it but you're going to keep your mouth shut.' should now take you to the correct response.

Extended and updated 'End Game' scenes.

EPISODE 02:

If MC is faint after exiting the car, but also drunk, they should now get the fainting scene, followed by Dilani helping the MC in the bathroom.

UI + TECHNICAL

SETTINGS:

Autoname Save is now defaulted to ON. This is to add ease and flow to gameplay, especially for mobile, tablet, and app users, instead of calling for an inputted saved name. If player wants to input save names, toggle Autoname Saves to OFF.

Autoname Save previously only used the forename of the MC but now includes the surname as well.

Removed the Fullscreen toggle as it is only intended for desktop use. Player can still toggle fullscreen function via the UI bar on the desktop interface.

Added a choice indicator toggle. (This probably won't come into effect until EP 04 or 05)

Changed serif font from Vollkron to EB Garamond.

OTHER:

Changing the MC's pronouns via the Dashboard has been updated. Additionally, after confirmation will take player back to the Dashboard and not close the dialog boxes entirely.

Hovering over 'Personality', 'Motives', and 'Skills' titles in the Dashboard will now display an information box with a definition. Mobile and tablet users will need to tap on the title.

'Resume Game' now only appears on the main menu when there is an autosave in the saves log.

Choices styling changes.

General UI and button style changes.

Fixed errors with the text message styling.

Added styling for reading text off of a page in game.

Darkened blue in light theme 'Skyline' to reduce eye strain.

CREATE A SAVE

Introducing Create a Save! This feature allows players to quickly manufacture a save file and start at a later point in the game.

Set your identity, appearance, history, and statistics; including personality, motives, and skills. Continue to set key decisions made in previous episodes.

Randomise options available for creating a PC and key decisions.

OTHER

Fixed gaps and spacing issues.

Minor phrasing and sentence structure changes.

Grammar and typo fixes.

whew -- that's a lot of patch notes! apologies for so much that needed to be fixed.

this update shouldn't break/ mess with saves but as a disclaimer i will say, if you spot anything funky, broken, or you don't think things are triggering correctly, try starting a new save. the new create a save feature is incredibly code heavy, and it's been tested relentlessly, but i wouldn't be surprised if something crops up.

if starting a new save doesn't resolve your issue - please submit to bug report or just send me an ask/message.

some things have been meaning to get fixed for Some Time - thank you to everyone that is using the bug report form!

apologies if there are typos and/or bugs - this was a long one to edit and my lovely betas did an OUTSTANDING job reading so much for ep 3 - thank you so much again!!! this time i am going to give it a bit more time before i put together a patch so i can grab more error responses haha.

create a save has also added a wee chunk to the word count, somewhere around 6k, but i'm not including it in the episode 03 word count as it's purely code. so, if you think the total wc is off, that's why!

ATE Devlog #7

Hello everyone!

After The End Chapter 1 Part 2 is finally here! In this part, you will:

get home just in time to release all the built-up emotions you've been holding in

receive 2 letters: one from your childhood friend, the other from the second prince

have a clandestine meeting with aforementioned second prince

(Please restart the game as some variables have been added and changed 😅)

Note: If you would rather click to load the text rather than wait for the timed text to load, you can disable the timed text by going to Settings and toggling the "Enable timed passages" setting to "Off".

Once again, constructive feedback is more than welcome and any coding or grammatical errors may be reported either in the comments section of the game or through sending an ask here.
