Oz and Spike painting their fingernails together
Oz and Spike painting each OTHER'S fingernails
guys, we were robbed. I legit 100% believe Oz and Spike would have vibed so hard if they'd crossed paths in later seasons. They woulda been besties. We coulda had stoic nerd and secret nerd, band kid and poetry geek, werewolf and vampire buddies. The scoobies could have stumbled in on them debating philosophy and literature and also hashing out new lyrics for Dingoes Ate My Baby songs, all while drinking and painting their nails. Then they'd get the stone-faced, casual shrug, 'piss off' treatment when they asked wtf they'd just walked in on, and the scoobies would have no choice but to just accept it because if Oz is involved, it just, like, can't be that evil. Oz is just too chill. He coulda been Spike's platonic gateway into the scoobies' good graces.
WE WERE ROBBED.

I was tagged by @phoenix-rising-starbird-one, inadvertently 😉😂
1. were you named after anyone? My mother, and her childhood doll. I go by the doll name.
2. when was the last time you cried? Last weekend, when I finally understood the lyrics of Abstract/Psychopomp, and they reminded me of dogs long gone to me. Now my eyes get wet by even thinking about the song.
3. do you have kids? Nope. Decided against it when I married, confirmed it was the right decision when I divorced. I'm perfectly suited to be an auncle!
4. what sports do you play/have you played? Right now, lightsaber combat. I've tried running, karate and soccer. I've sucked at any other sport under the sun.
5. do you use sarcasm? Just the right amount of it.
6. what's the first thing you notice about people? General vibe? I go for faces (which I would probably just vaguely remember) because there are eyes and smiles. Then, hands.
7. what's your eye color? dark brown.
8. scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings, always. Life is scary enough.
9. any talents? Singing moderately well, acting, writing, public speaking (which I loathe but can do with ease). Explaining things, given the time to ramble a little.
10. where were you born? Mexico City.
11. what are your hobbies? Writing, reading, watching the same things over and over and geeking out. That includes lightsaber combat training.
12. do you have any pets? yep, one huge yellow dog who has been with me for the past 12 years. I love her and her anxious sorry ass dearly. I lost my 14 year old cat last year, and I'll probably get another one at some point in the future.
13. how tall are you? probably a smidge shorter, but let's assume I am 5'5.
14. favorite subject in school? Literature, Physics, Philosophy, History, anything Social Sciences.
15. dream job? - If I could get paid for writing fanfics and media analysis, and having a biweekly meeting to talk about things that I'm obsessed with, I'd be the happiest person in the world. It is slightly similar to teaching/lecturing, but I loathe grading and the subjects are not as fun and it requires bureaucracy (and I'm so ill-fitted for that!).
Tagging, as usual, without pressure... @phoen1xr0se, @happy-mokka, @tehloserprince, @littlelodell. @aextra, @eybefioro, @saderplate7

Do you like Dr. Stone?
If so, Can you info dump dr.Stone to me? If you want to, of course.
I could look it up myself but i mostly just want to get some of that info dump and that energy that only a fan who is hyperfixating can give often leads me to look into the media and it's fun. Idk
Hearing/seeing people (especially those i know or have interacted with) be happy and geek out about stuff is fun and i often end up wanting to check it out afterwards because of that
No worries if you don't wanna tho
no. no worries at all. in fact. you should worry.
im going to start from the beginning. and then explain each character in sequence.
senku, taiju, and yuzuriha are all best friends. senku is the extreme science guy, taiju is the brawny loud and energetic guy who has a crush on yuzuriha, and yuzuriha is a determined but reserved girl who is into crafts. (senku n taiju met during childhood while taiju met yuzuriha in middle school n introduced her to senku in the same timeframe bc she offered helped in making lightweight objects)
one day, (june 3rd 2019) taiju says to senku that hes finally gonna confess after 5 years. however when he finally meets her, bright green light envelops the whole world, and turns everyone to stone.
however, taiju retains his consciousness out of sheer willpower. Esxactly 3718 years pass, and with humans turned to stone, civilization crumbles. buildings fall down, animals take over, nature overrun cities. (note: the only creatures petrified were humans and swallow birds)
Taiju wakes n breaks from stone, naked, n is surrounded by nature. he finds senku, who was actually awake 6 monthz earlier. The only way they found out 3,718 years had passed was bc senku counted the days, and seconde in his consciousness ever since being petrified.
senku and taiju spend 6 months experimenting with petrified swallows for the revival/miracle fluid (depends on translation). in the end, its a success, but just as theyr about to revive yuzuriha they end up being cornered by lions and revive tsukasa shishio, the worlds strongest primate highschooler.
they work together n have 2 wait again to make the revival fluid. however tsukasa sees senkus abilities, and proposes to him an idea. that they should only revive the 'pure hearted youth', bc in this new world, it should be a paradise not tainted by the old world's philosophies where the greedy elders had the power. However, senku disagrees n it becomes tense between them.
Long story short they revive yuzuriha n after a little scuffle, run away to Hakone, where they can get sulfur for gunpowder to defeat tsukasa. but after accidentally lighting a fire they find out that ther r other ppl asides from them who r alive when they get a smoke signal response to their fire. sadly, tsukasa finds them, n after finding out the revival fluid formula, he kills senku.
taiju n yuzuriha run away wit senkus body n miraculously revive him using the science of the revival fluid. But since senkus known as dead, taiju n yuzuriha seprate from him. senku goes to find who made the smoke signal, while taiju n yuzuriha go to tsukasas new 'empire' as spies.
senku manages to find the mysterious person, who is trapped under a tree after they attempted to fight tsukasa. A girl named kohaku (shes blonde, and as senku finds out later, scarily strong and agile.) he eventually deduces that shes not a revived, but rather, a descendant of a revived. senku demonstrates his use of science by making a pulley and lifting the tree log. kohaku thanks him, and after camping out for the night, brings him to her village. its a primitive village, and there he meets chrome, a guy whos another 'sorcerer' (since they dont know science, they call it 'sorcery').
from then on, this is where the first arc starts.
now for my personal opinions.
i love dr stone so much because the anime is a serious, but not totally serious anime. Theres so many goofy scenes, and there are rare emotional moments. When there are, they arent overly cheesy or monologuey. also because the theme is a sort of fantasy, but its also somewhat relatable in terms of how ppl interact with each other. idk it just feels so real. everyone (EVERYONE) has their own unique personalities and features that differentiate them from each other. (except ahmm 4 some side charctrs)
the story has lots of lighthearted funny moments in every episode, n the humor is nice too. overall i am insane over this and it inspired me so much bc throughout the series senkus whole motto is to try and try and try again. it appeals very much to me bc his problems arent solved by some magical miracle. he works, and individually gathers the tools and ingredients needed for each thing he needs. and not just that, he relies on others, and others rely on him. For me, it teaches a lot of lessons about perseverance. n it feels more impacting even he doesnt do things in a snap. he sometimes finishes things in a week, a month, a day. progress takes time. and any bit of progress, even if its just a little, is still worth it. when conflict happens, he does not aim for the best scenario, but something thats atleast not the worst scenario. aside from that, he also gets nervous, he gets scared, he also gets sentimental, though ull barely notice.
in fact, he inspired me so much ive been getting into astronomy lately. Also, another thing another character taught me in this series is passion. like, pursue what you love, it doesnt have to be some long term passion. even if u feel like u shouldnt, pursue it. lets say uve taken interest in painting, paint as much as you can. never limit the desires of ur heart. tho this character was like, an heir of a huge company, rich asf. but the thing is even when he isnt rich (revived in the stone world. the title of heir means nothing now), he still manages to pursue whatever he wanted. he even says in a q and a, that "everything i did i could do through money. But if you truly love it, youll be able to find a way, even without money!!" and thats true. This type of passion also showed in tsukasas backstory. He trained, for years and years since childhood. he went boxing against full adults as a kid, accepted every interview his way, went to every show. until 18 he did so because he wanted to provide for his hospitalized sister (she was announced clinically braindead). his dad was a unemployed drunkard, and of course he needed money to keep his sister well in the hospital. he wasnt even born strong or anything. he was just an ordinary kid. but from then on he would go to free playground parks at night. hed train and train, and at his age signed himself up for ring fights. hed train hard to win against everyone hes pitted against. Just so he could give his sister gifts, and a nice hospital room.
anyways thats a super big example ramble thats what i think of dr stone yah

RIP: Board Game Geek’s Game of Thrones Play-by-Forum
Due to a discussion about setting up an online Game of Thrones Board Game match (h/t @bookworm-blackshoe & @k-simplex ), I dug up the old tools for asynchronous play that everyone used for Board Game Geek Play-by-Forum games. It was a really big and active community; over 500 games were played it looks like, they developed custom maps for easy play, custom variants of the game for balance, and all that. The most successful was the Five Kings and a Prince variant, which had a tweaked map, new house cards, and unique ‘crisis’ cards instead of just wilding attacks over and over:
Tumblr media
I played a few games like 5 years ago or so, but more often what I did was read the games; because it was Play-by-Forum and most had a ‘No Ravens’ rule where all diplomacy had to be done publically, the entire narrative of the game is written out for you. Some roleplay, others chat about their lives as they play, etc. I still remember some of the epic plays or in particular the yelling-at-screen blunders you saw in these games.
Something that is really cool about this is that the ‘meta’ is essentially recorded-over-time through these games. Greyjoy’s overpoweredness is apparent early on; Lannister in particular develop key strategies to mitigate this, like a first turn CP-muster on Lannisport becomes really common. “Openers” like the Greyjoy 4-Castle Riverun play or the Stark Turn-2 Eyrie Snipe become known and named, etc. The history of the game on this forum is preserved at 100% resolution in this way, which is really great.
The forum is dead now of course - the last game, #518, had its last post in March 2022, and it was essentially dead by 2021. I was reading through the last 5KaaP variant game, and its last three turns took over a year to finish as players dropped out and the hunt for replacements got more and more difficult. Everyone knows its the last game of the forum, its the only reason they pushed through - and they finished, in a really close 3-way tie finale (tiebreaker mechanics gave the win to House Baratheon). Very happy they did, it should end that way.
Why the forum died is probably obvious. Its a forum, forums overall are dying slow deaths even if this one had its heyday way later than most. Apparently the Game of Thrones Board Game had a Steam release? I didn’t know that - it has ~50 daily active players, which is not stunning but honestly the forum never had much more than that, its a fine player base and likely cannibalized some of the forum population, even if its primarily synchronous as opposed to asynchronous play. VASSAL as a board game engine exists and has a GoTBG module, maybe it has players?
Bigger culprits are like time itself - we are at the tail end of the Golden Age of Board Games right now, and A Game of Thrones was a pretty early entry into that era. It is an extremely complex game with tons of edge cases and bespoke rules clarifications, it takes 4 hours to play in person, all of that. It is thoroughly modern in its design, for sure, but the past ten years of game design have really pushed towards simpler design philosophies and less demanding playtimes, GOTBG isn’t as much in step with the market now. Additionally, communities like these have ‘anchor’ members - the people who made these mods & tools, people who served as moderators and drummed up players, etc. When a few of them leave the community becomes adrift and fades away faster, and that definitely happened here.
Meanwhile the franchise of a Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire itself has of course declined quite markedly - primarily through the organic passing of time, but less organically through the ritual suicide of the latter half of the televion show and George RR Martin’s tease-and-denial fetish when it comes to his book publishing schedule. I think those intersect too - Game of Thrones fans are nowadays normally older, and the older you are, on average, the less time you have for months-long play-by-forum overly complex board games. Apparently the default mode for the Steam version is for a game to be 6 turns long instead of 10, I think that reflects the changing demo.
Anyway, goodbye to the Board Game Geeks Game of Thrones Play-by-Forum community. May this post serve as a stone in your cairn, and hopefully a reminder of its existence to anyone out there who was also a member and stumbles across it.

Thoughts on We Live Again (1934)
Tumblr media
Quick plot summary: A Russian prince who briefly dabbled in socialist philosophy abandons his ideals once he joins the military and rubs elbows with decadent high society. He seduces and impregnates an innocent peasant girl, who bears his child alone. Eventually the two cross paths again when the prince is serving as a juror and the young woman is tried for a murder she did not commit. Guilt-stricken, he aims to redeem himself by saving her from hard labor in Siberia.
Here's another episode of "Nitrateglow is super curious about so-called Hollywood failures and has to investigate every one."
Most classic movie fans have probably heard of Anna Sten, but if you haven't, she was a Ukranian actress who made some Soviet and German movies in the 20s and 30s. She caught the attention of producer Samuel Goldwyn, who saw in her a potential successor to Hungarian silent film actress and talkie casualty Vilma Banky. He also saw Sten as a potential competitor for the likes of Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich.
Sten was hyped to the skies, but her Hollywood vehicles didn't click with the American public. Goldwyn released her from her contract after three films and she's become a footnote in movie history ever since.
But does she deserve to be? Opinion on Sten's acting ability seems to be divided among movie geeks. The writer of She Blogged By Night finds her performance in We Live Again, a Hollywoodized adaptation of a late Tolstoy novel, cringeworthy:
"Still, it’s difficult to feel sorry for Sten, because her inability to relate in an accessible way to the camera is astonishing. It’s as though she had no idea how the camera perceived her, and often moved in such a way that she looked silly, like a hilariously untalented little kid pretending to be an actor. Her line readings were consistently line-by-line, in that each line she uttered has a certain inflection and was matched with certain actions, but these actions were outsized and obvious, and there was no cohesion to her entire performance."
However, reviewing Sten's silent Soviet comedy The Girl with the Hatbox, Fritzi Kramer of Movies Silently feels Sten was a talented performer whose chances at success were unwittingly sabotaged by Goldwyn himself-- he forcefed her image to the public and made them tired of her quickly.
Tumblr media
Having only seen We Live Again, I cannot make any definitive judgment of Sten as an actress. She is undeniably beautiful and charming, though I found her stiff and unconvincing in the big emotional scenes. I was far more impressed with her in the quiet moments, like when she is burying her infant son and finds herself unable to fill the grave with dirt. It's not a bad performance by any means though and I'd be interested in seeing more of her films.
The movie as a whole is fascinating. It's explicitly socialist and it carries over a lot of Tolstoy's subversive religious philosophy, which one would think would have been purged from the script before cameras rolled. I have the strong feeling the story works better as a novel than as a glossy Hollywood movie-- it's very interior. But director Rouben Mamoulian puts it over well and I left the movie feeling satisfied.

I headcannon that the Nightwings and Icewings used to share a lot of core culture, however just slightly altered to fit with their landscapes and myths.
(Pre-darkstalker time⬇️)
Both tribes have (or in the case of the nightwings, had) opulent fashion, opera, theater, dance, sporting events and incredible focus on their studies. Being studious and talented on multiple levels was seen as impressive and deserving of a higher status. The icewings tended to veer more towards military/fighting prestige, however, and the nightwings more so their studies of math, science, astronomy, poetry and philosophy, etc.
Opera or theatrical dance, for both tribes, was a very supported art form, but icewings tended to be stricter with their sonnets and more classical with their dances while the nightwings had many hippy, modern students changing the popular genre every couple of years or so. Grand masters of chess and other mental games from both tribes would compete against each other often. They had much respect for one another, but also saw each other as a threat in the global market, as they both sold finer/crafted capital (furniture, paintings, text books, etc), as opposed to other tribes which harvested raw resources (rainwings, seawings, skywings).
Icewings often saw nightwings as annoyingly modern, trying-too-hard-to-be-different geeks while nightwings viewed icewings as stuck up, boring, traditional dragons with no sense of evolved creativity. Neither of these stereotypes were exactly accurate. There were many young icewings trying to revolutionize their favorite art forms or sports, and many old nightwings holding on to the stricter ways of the past.
The two tribes went through periods of amicable alliance and hostility. It mostly depended on who was queen at the time, as she would sometimes seek good relations with the other tribe, or not. Whatever the case, the nightwings and icewings were more respectful of each other compared to other tribes. This only changed when Prince Arctic and Foeslayer met that fated day….

Hey how’ve you been? I’ve been reading your explanations on the Hindu scriptures and find them very interesting…I’ve recently been reading this book called I Am Not The Body , Discovering the Truth Beyond Bondage by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and I think some of what was said in the book was quite similar. I was wondering how you personally reach the void and how the scriptures helped you?
Hiiii! I'm doing well and I loveeee your blog💗 I love the specific post about the I AM state from faith and fortune ( as I had never read faith and fortune, something clicked inside me when I saw your post 🌠 long story short, it helped me enter the void as I just focused on the I AM)
Well I have grown up as a Hindu....but I spent most of my life not wondering what tf it is and what does it mean to be one, like this term was something which I just used to tick off in the religion section of any important document.
Growing up hindu is confusing tbh....like my grandma used to do Puja/worship/rituals? everyday....but instead of Gods she used to keep images of some gurus in her altar. My mom was sort of following vedanta I guess( it's a school of thought from the Vedic path of Hinduism) while growing up I don't ever remember her telling me something about her path. My dad used to follow some guru in the past...but later in his life he turned into a nastika( people who don't believe in any creator and don't believe the major vedic scriptures to be of any knowledge)
As a result, I naturally became atheist. Also I was very very inclined towards science( it's hard to let go of logic, even to this day😔) my knowledge about hinduism was only reserved to polytheism, superstitions, idol worship and other stuff due to movies🤷 after discovering everything ( I started cuz like I became kind of a history geek, and discovered some really great philosophies)
The reason I'm telling you all this is hinduism is not hinduism. There is nothing called hinduism. The term “Hinduism,” is of relatively recent vintage. It was coined by Westerners in the 18th century as a convenient catch- all term for the “bewilderingly complex culture of dozens of languages and religious and cultural traditions” that early European explorers encountered in India. Each of these interrelated traditions conceptualizes the Supreme Divine in its own manner, though without disrespecting or disregarding the concepts of other schools.
Discovering law of assumption and Neville reaffirmed my belief in Indian traditions I guess... Earlier I was like no way consciousness is separate form the body, obviously its a by-product of the brain🤦‍♀️( but even science is not sure about this) So I'm still discovering things about my culture.... particularly shaktism ( cuz my ancestors were from a region which was known for shakta worship i.e worshipping goddesses and believing the ultimate reality is feminine)
I entered the by just focusing on the I AM. I AM pure consciousness. That's the only identity I have. Nothing else. Earlier before discovering the void I used to do a Hindu meditation which consisted of saying "I am not the body" & "I am not the mind" ( it's one of the spiritual practices of the kriya tradition) I guess that might have helped my subconscious....
it didn't take me long to enter the void. Just focusing on the 4D and destroying the separation of 4D & 3D while affirming in my mind, as I'm just pure consciousness from which everything emenates.
If you wanna know other stuff about "hinduism" you can msg me 😄

congrats on your milestone!! i absolutely adore your writing 🤍 i’d love a ship with the pjo characters, if that’s okay.
my name is emma, or em for short. i’m 5’1 with long dark brown hair and deep brown eyes. i’m incredibly loyal to my friends and the first to defend them and always ready to fight for them. i’m also a huge flirt because it’s just fun to flirt with people, even if i’m rarely serious about it. i’m a libra after all. and i’m an extrovert, i love philosophy and writing poetry, i love a good debate, and i love meddling in my friend’s love lives. i can be a bit over dramatic sometimes but i really just want to make people smile and laugh and keep their attention. because it makes me feel good about myself when i can hold someone’s attention.
i hope this is enough information. or the right information. and i’m so dreadfully sorry if it’s not.
i hope you have a lovely day/night whenever this finds you. 🤍
hello emma! thank you so much, i hope you have a great day ❤️
i personally see you with percy himself!
on the depressing side the two of you are able to bond at times over senses of attention. percy wasn’t exactly popular amongst his peers so being able to hold someone’s attention let alone making a friend is amazing to him, and being able to hold your attention??
it sends him into a spiral. finally being able to be friends with someone he really does like certainly makes him shy in all honesty. you’d been with him in the hermes cabin, one of your best friends being a child of hermes meant you loved to spend your time around them. at first you’d kept your distance since percy seemed pretty jumpy but then again, maybe he just needed a friend.
so you decided to talk to him, and it ended being your best decision.
the two of you loved to geek out over philosophy and at times annoyed the other campers by your talk. before dating the two of you did become a bit of a dynamic duo, sarcasm was your speciality. you loved to joke around together all the time.
whilst you both couldn’t work up the nerve to tell eachother about your feelings you were both extremely protective of eachother. even when people asked you out you always seemed to turn them down. unwavering loyalty at all times.
the first time percy realised just how much you really did care for him was when you defended him against clarisse.
-
“back off, seriously.” emma stood in front of percy with her arms crossed whilst clarisse laughed, “or what?” she tilted her head to the side as emma took a step forwards, “i don’t care about being labelled a snitch, i don’t mind telling mr d. and i sure as hell don’t mind telling everyone where our flag is next game.”
“you little—” she was quick to shove her into the floor before grabbing percy’s hand and running, “did you just push clarisse!?” percy yelled as she giggled, “yes! we may as well have some fun before she kills us.” the two of you ended up in the strawberry fields.
“i hope she likes dirt.” percy joked as you smiled, “are you okay perce?” emma was probably the only person he’d ever let call him that, “i am, thank you. em, you really didn’t have to do that.” she shrugged her shoulders before taking a step forwards, “anything for you, really. you’re.. my best friend perce.” emma didn’t miss the way his eyes seemed to dull at the name.
“just a friend?” emma sat on the floor as percy joined her, “why, you wanna be something more?” emma flirted as percy’s cheeks heated up, “maybe.” it was mumbled, but she still heard him, “you’re kidding.”
“no, i’m not. you’ve been there for me since day one, no matter what. i love how you laugh, i love how you put up with my rambling, i love how selfless you are. i really love you.” she couldn’t help the tears in her eyes as she placed her hand over his.
“i might just like you too percy jackson.”

hi! i love you (too)! i am indeed here with my questions after your ask....so buckle up.😁
okay firstly. PLEASE TELL ME IF I NEED CALCULUS FOR PSYCHOLOGY BC IM LITERALLY GOINF TO CRY. i know the neuroscience part of psych is completely different than the research parts of it and im not sure if that's the one you take.....but is it super calculation related or is it mostly subjective 🧐
how is psychology in general??? like what do you mostly learn?? is it stats or parts of the brain or maybe you focus on experiements??
what kinds of assignments do you get? im sure the work is completely different from my level so im sorry if this is a hard one to answer BUT IM SO CURIOUS HELP.
last one! (for now...) what's your favorite thing(s) you've learnt from psych so far?😇please do share because i will go insane learning anything new
HELP IMSORRY IT'S SUCH A LONG ASK BUT IM TOO CURIOUS FOR MY OWN GOOD
you are so lucky i love you despite slandering rin ANYWAY HERE IT GOES
i'm relatively good (i like to believe so) w some maths but i fucking suck at calculus so i understand the need to ask that xD,, safe to say that the last time i saw that bitch was back in highschool so nope! no calculus here (psych stats and some natural science subjects will be your enemy tho if you really loathe calculations and such but we'll get more on that later!)
regarding if it's heavy w calculations, it depends! in my uni, there are 2 tracks for this bachelor's, either you go arts or science (i'm in this) BA psych is basically leaning more on humanities and BS psych have science units (physics, biochem, anaphysio). both of them still have the core majors of psych such as abnormal psych, theories of personality, and that includes: psychology stats (sorry bub you can't escape her she's a persistent one)
psychology stats is imperative in both tracks because psychology is heavy in research. and stats is gravely used in them.
also if you're interested more on going law afterwards, BA will cater your interests more and that even saves you from these heavy sciences (they're the bane of my existence)
how is psychology in general??? like what do you mostly learn?? is it stats or parts of the brain or maybe you focus on experiements??
psych is grounded on physiology and philosophy. if i were to describe it, it's having both of the best worlds if you love humanities and arts but still love to gain some science on the side. we def learn about the brain! not only anatomically but also theoretically speaking. the brain is vast world of study, i kid you not. it's an enigma of some sorts, it's incredible and terrifying at the same time. and i wouldn't really call it as a study of "brain" but it's actually all about studying behavior in general. regarding experiments, do you mean those lab ones? for sure you'll have them if you're in the track that i'm in but basically the "experiment" side of this field is all about gathering data using scientific methods.
what kinds of assignments do you get? im sure the work is completely different from my level so im sorry if this is a hard one to answer BUT IM SO CURIOUS HELP.
I SO LOVE THIS QUESTION IT ALLOWS ME TO GEEK OUT for now, in my majors (most of them are introductory to complex psych) most of my assignments are essays and case studies. also, this program will need you to TALK in presentations, recits (some of my profs uses socratic method and they sometimes let students argue abt diagnosis). if you're not so good with talking my dearest puri, dw that's not really much of a problem! with writing though, you will need A LOT of it (which i am certain you'll be killing it in this aspect so)
also don't mind those side assignments and projects i rant about here in this app (example: the goddamn film) those are my minors !
last one! (for now...) what's your favorite thing(s) you've learnt from psych so far?😇please do share because i will go insane learning anything new
there's no day in psych that's not interesting. first of all, i love that we could be in a coffee shop talking about traumas and mental illnesses and none of us are batting an eyelash even tho we probably sound fucking unhinged to those around us xD my most favorite thing here apart from what i learn intellectually, is how profound empathy runs in this field.
once you started in psych, it's hard to see people in a singular perspective. and it's not a bad thing per se, it just makes your interpersonal relationships a little bit more complex to navigate because you now have this understanding of the implications of how people behave. and of course, it goes without saying that this understanding shouldn't be an excuse nor a justification, but whether you like it or not, it gives you an explanation of some sort.
also, being in psych automatically includes you in the movement. as difficult as it is to admit, the issue of mental health is still more of a movement than an obvious problem. i hate that but yeah
(the thing i don't like about it is that it's heavy on reading (oh my god), and as someone who enjoys reading for pleasure, reading these academic volumes is a whole different experience. but that's just me hehehe)
I GOT A BIT CARRIED AWAY OH MY GOD i hope this somehow helps huhu feel free to ask more and i'll do my best w answering them!!

Didn't expect that: "Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai"
There are shows on Netflix that I notice, then don't watch at first, remain confused by their descriptive text, then watch after all. It kind of was like this with the amazing Romantic Killer, and it was definitely like this with the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai.
Tumblr media
I somehow stumbled about some online comments disliking the series, and let it sit for a while. But somewhere down the line I was casting about for something to watch, and frankly, it completely surprised me.
(I will do some spoilers, but I try to keep it light. Also, looking for an article I wrote about Romantic Killer I found I haven't written one - talk about being backlogged!)
My Little Science Mystery
At its heart, the show looks at consciousness and self partially from a perspective of quantum physics and mathematics, focusing on aspects like attention, observation, strong wishes, parallel selves, and branching timelines. To get such topics into the story it invented "Puberty Syndrome / Adolescence Syndrome," a mysterious condition most people believe to be an internet urban legend. Except that almost everyone that loner and high school 2nd year Sakuta knows or ends up knowing will end up having it - if they're girls, that is. Or himself.
To explain what that is, let's go with the opening scene. Future heroine Mai, an extremely good-looking third-year (and hence Sakuta's senpai in high school), walks around the library in a Playboy bunny costume, unnoticed by most everyone except our protagonist. This seemingly eccentric scene from the trailer has a serious background - an increasing number of people cannot see Mai anymore.
Sakuta teams up with Mai and his hot science geek friend Rio to solve the mystery, digging into the relationship between the observer and the observed from quantum mechanics - or rather the idea from philosophy: If a tree falls in the forest without anybody seeing it, has it indeed happened? (And what sound does it make?) This leads of course to also very practical problems: You need other people to observe you to interact in daily life. And it begs the question - if our reality is a consensus, do we need the acknowledgment of others just to exist...?
Tumblr media
The show, behind its science-y techno babble, actually has a lot of heart. The problems all root in emotions, interpersonal problems, and their resolutions are often very dramatic and touching. This is true of Mai's story as of the other ones to follow.
Some things to note
First of all: the series name. Each book in the light novel series has a title starting with "Rascal Does Not Dream Of" - but somehow the anime series got named after the first installment. This is most apparent once the money-making train rolled out of the station - instead of continuing the apparently successful anime series, the very dramatic events of two volumes were packed into two animated movies (mo' money! kaching!) - Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out. I had not access to these so I read the books.
The books, in turn, are very readable, and given their content, these two movies are some heavy, dramatic shit, no doubt. The series heavily escalates its dramatic impact towards these two titles. In fact, you could say the books rolled into the anime series are actually a setup of characters and ideas that will culminate in these movies. (Which will also invest you into watching them. Well played, studio, well played indeed.) Sakuta's own Puberty Syndrome, that of his sister Kaede, the mystery stranger Shouko, all of that is set up long before you ever really pick up on it, revealing a series that had a long-term plan.
The books are good reads, solid prose, too. The pacing of these two particular books is kind of dragging, but the author really wanted to transmit the heavy emotions of the protagonist. They certainly had me near my limit! The story of Mai, Sakuta, and his first love Shouko is beautiful, sad, dramatic, and ultimately very, very satisfying - and I don't want to spoil it for you! Just know that if you only watch the anime and I guess the movies, you're probably in for feeling very rewarded and satisfied - after a certain amount of suffering. (Again, couldn't watch the movies, but the book version is already top.)
Tumblr media
Having started with the anime, I can only guess that the term "rascal" is what they translated differently when Rio keeps calling him a "pig." Somehow she always insults Sakuta (throughout the anime series), and admittedly Sakuta has a pervy side - but unlike most protagonists he seems to be a bit of a happy masochist when it comes to his love interest.
Anyway, the show and books are well worth it, the cast of characters is built over time and well done, and innocuous background details presented in the start will be the seed of more stories to come. The series is going strong, there are still untranslated light novel volumes, and so I will keep on reading.

Hello, Belle! I'd love to join this matchup event of yours ♡ My apologies in advance if it's too long
I like psychology, science (specifically biology), mythology, music, history, literature, and philosophy. I'm a huge geek when it comes to crimes (whether they're unsolved or not) and just mysterious stuff in general. I mostly watch documentaries (about any topic really), read, study, or simply lounge around in my free time. I admire people who are genuine. I don't have a favorite book since it's difficult to pick, but I prefer fantasy and psychological genres.
On the other hand I loathe anyone who is close-minded and two-faced. It's a big turnoff for me. And I dislike lazy people, incompetence is a big no.
Most people around me say that I'm empathetic so I suppose that's true. I'm a very calm person in general, unless someone ticks me off (I become temperamental if so). A lot of people have called me a goody two shoes (I can see why though and I don't blame them for that). Although I'm an emotional person by nature, I'm still logical and always opt for the most rational choice. I'm keen on self-awareness.
I have many insecurities but if I were to pick one it would be my inner self. Despite being an empath I'm a bit selfish, hypocritical, and self-preserving at heart (though I'm trying to fix those flaws of mine). I dislike that side of me and sometimes I wish I was a different person because of that (and tend to get envious of people who can freely show who they truly are). I have a fear of being judged by others if I show my more ugly and dark side, so I tend to just mask it all with my good traits.
Thank you for taking the time to read this! Once again I'm super sorry since it's so long. I hope you have a great day/night ahead!
Hi little sheep !! ૮꒰•༝ •。꒱ა (i plan on calling my anons that cause ayy non sounds too mechanical from me) And wow - the resemblance I have to this. Honestly, I get where you're coming from with this and i'm happy to know that someone likes watching crime documentaries cause that's something i do in my spare time on youtube (like watching lazy masquerade or coffeehouse crime, i fall asleep when I'm in the middle of a podcast too or just listening to horror/ crime stories ) and apparently it's growing pretty popular now - I match you with Itoshi Rin!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vibes I get : Competitive and power couple like relationship. Rin likes watching psychological based things when he is off training or on his way home. Secretly thrilled that you like underrated youtubers who talk about crimes and mysteries that are unsolved but he'll pretend that they are mainstream ones and that you just said it to impress him.
Warning : mentions of reader wielding a knife. Entering the house, you could tell something was off. There were times when you had entered a empty house, but the atmosphere had changed- it being more darker as if something awful had happened in your absence. Setting your bag down on the floor, you grab a knife near you walking in the direction of the bedroom where you watched a figure move on the ground covered in a sheet. Flicking the lights on you watched as the figure flinched, hand ready to use the knife. "For fucks sake!" the familiar voice said, making you drop the knife. Hearing the clatter of the metallic object on the floor, Rin turned towards you, his teal eyes squinting at you as a sheet was over his head. "What are you doing home early?" you asked. "I thought you were going to be late?" Clicking his tongue, he sat down on the floor, the tapping away at the screen. Seeing his behavior, you could tell something was off. Not wanting to disturb his peace, getting closer was the right route than prodding him for questions. Hand turning off the light, you kicked your shoes to the side; picking up the knife and placing it on the table, joining him in the dark. Sitting on the floor next to him you watched as his eyes were fixated on the screen before him, the audio of the conspiracy around the Himuro mansion playing in the background. "And I'm telling you that that portal doesn't exist." "Of course it doesn't dumbass." Rin said, brushing his teeth. "Then why did they do it? Do you think some spiritual activity took place there?" you chirped back. "myths, beliefs and fulfillment. Don't you know that?" he asked, wiping his face with a towel and getting under the covers. "Rin." He turned to you, teal eyes blinking boredly. "do you wanna go to the site tomorrow?" you asked. Thinking about it for a bit, he turned his head to the ceiling, hands resting on his chest. "8 pm. It works best at night."

Uh, here's some my personal headcanons for some of the Wordgirl Villians and their backstory. Also, what I think they looked like when they were younger.
Tumblr media
Lady Redunant Woman
Rebellious, a troublemaker, and prankster.
Often caused trouble in Fair City out of sheer boredom.
Had a very odd, 80's sense of fashion.
Designed a lot of her own clothing.
Perky and fun loving, before customer service/life drained her.
Dreamt of being a model, but was rejected over and over again by the industry.
Had an easier time forming attachments to inanimate objects rather than people.
Settled for her current job out of desperation for money.
Mrs. Question
Tumblr media
An animal's rights activist.
Became a vegetarian at a young age
A teacher's pet and an A+ student.
A quick learner and incredibly observant.
Endlessly curious, so she asked a lot of questions in school and at home.
Many of her peers were annoyed by this.
Became discouraged when her degree (philosophy) proved useless.
Turned to villiany as a way of utilizing her skills.
An absolute comic book geek.
She had every comic that depicts The Riddler, and based her villian persona off of him.
Leslie
Tumblr media
Painfully shy and insecure.
She didn't have many friends due to this.
An absolute workaholic and an A+ student, often studying to the point of exhaustion.
Had a controlling, strict family who micromanaged her life.
Wanted to be a hero since she was a young girl, so she could finally feel a sense of power and confidence.
Found comfort in comics and princesses.
Superman was her favourite comic book hero, although Wonder Woman was a close second.
Was hired by Mr. Big by absolute chance, and was tricked into believing he was a hero. Yet, she never looked back.
She used to look up to Mr. Big, before getting to know him better. 🤣
Big Left Hand Guy
Tumblr media
Suffered from bad insomnia due to crippling anxiety.
Dropped out of high school.
Deeply insecure, only finding pride in his big left hand due to it's strength.
Dreamt of preforming in theatre, but was too overwhelmed by stage freight.
Obsessed with the 1940's aesthetic and films, as it reminded him of his late father.
His first crush was Charlie Chaplin.
Ended up working as a construction worker, and gained a grudge from terrible conditions.
Became a villian as a way of proving himself worthy.
Spent a lot of time at the gym, using the equipment to let out his repressed anger.
Invisi-Bill
Tumblr media
Was sent to boarding school at a young age to "straighten him out".
Struggled with staying visible, and was often ignored because of it.
Was seen as annoying whenever he was perceived by his peers.
Had to suppress personality due to pressure from parents and teachers.
Victorian fashion was a significant interest of his, and he put a lot of effort into his appearance.
Dreamt of being a celebrity of any kind, so that he could be beloved by countless of people.
Became a villian for the attention.
Loved to sing whenever he was alone, even if he wasn't very good at it.
The Butcher
Tumblr media
Dreamt of being like his father, Kid Potato, since he was old enough to speak.
His mother died during childbirth, so he was raised by his father.
Kid Potato often left him at home alone while he committed crimes.
Dropped out of highschool.
He didn't have many friends after kindergarten, and was teased for the way he spoke.
Found comfort in his meat products, often stimming with it or stress eating.
Stole tokens at the arcade, specifically to play Dance Dance Revolution.
Secretly dreamt of being a dancer, but never found the courage or the confidence to go for it.

I'm geeking out for that Boötes Void anon's dabbling in fun conspiracy theories. Especially about space!
They're ridiculous but I like to humour them every now and then. Like the idea that the moon was built by aliens because it's kind of an anomally that the moon exists in the way it does. (It's finally something about aliens that isn't the "indigenous people couldn't have built this, they would've needed higher intelligence for that! Therefore, MUST'VE been aliens" BS.)
Current limitations in our depth of higher scientific knowledge are probably the reason we can't fully explain why allegedly:
The moon of a planet the size of ours should be about 40 miles long, but our moon is somehow 2000.
There are shadow structures on the surface that supposedly don't make much sense - that are (according to this theory) monoliths or things created on the moon as sorts of beacons or markers. - I think it's probably just people misinterpreting regular degular old shadows
Seismic testing on the moon shows it takes up approximately 2% of the earth's volume which is waaaaay less than it should. This implies that the moon is hollow and possibly a surveillance base of some kind and that maybe life on earth is like an experiment - the way human scientists would take a species of bugs and create different conditions for them to see what happens, etc and so forth..
Some theorists go farther and suggest that earth is a prison for our species (like what did we do tho?) and every attempt to escape that goes too far is thwarted - that's why space exploration and terra forming on other planets is so difficult to progress (cool idea for a comic/webtoon tho)
The absurdity of the theory gives the idea that there is not enough cause to question what we know about the moon BUT maybe the there are anomalies that are actually weird enough to warrant deeper wonder about what exactly we're missing in the equation.
Probably not aliens 😂 but stuff where professionals are justified in exploring more scientifically-minded alternate theories of how physics/gravity/matter works. In a way scientists aren't super different from conspiracy theorists in that they see patterns and hypothesise about what they mean. So there's probably a lot of overlap when it comes to fields where we can't yet quantifiably prove the existence of certain forces, we can only observe their effects and take a guess on what is most likely the truth until we're able to get more confirming or disprovikg information. It's just that professionals' "guesses" are (hopefully) much more educated. Same with philosophy, and the creation of myths...like it's all the same act done through different lenses, man 🥴 we see things and we're like "lol wut? who did this??? 😂"
Do you have any particularly silly/fascinating theories about space that you like?
Hmm I'd be lying if I said I never entertained the thought of there being complex civilized life on the moon. Riddle me this. The moon is tidally locked, so ever since you were born and your mother and your mother's mother and so on were born, we've all seen the exact same side of the moon. WHAT IF there is a type 2 civilization living on the moon and they've locked it in place bc they don't want us seeing what goes on on the other side 👀 and y'know how many of us see a face in the moon? What if that's them like sending us a trolling face ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I don't know many other cooky space conspiracies but I also like to believe that the ringularity of a spinning black hole is a worm hole

Pics: Collections & a "can do" HPL!!
It's thought that all of Lovecraft's heroes are learned wimps who go mad at the drop of some debased ichor!
This is not true.
Howard had a select few heroes who got things done.
Violently - & smartly...
I mean, ramming your ship up into Cthulhu's belly - & making it explode (!!) - has got to be up there with our modern heroes's body counts...
If events had run differently, HPL could have ended up an action writer!! Somewhere along the lines of Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan...
With his Anglo-centric fixture, could Lovecraft have rewritten Robin Hood or set down the hellish adventures of Olde Camelot!!
(Like Kirby's Demon origin story?)
Hey, we can dream - right?
1914: Commentary on "Teuton's Battle-Song."
Intro: "Battle-Song" is Howard's poem on the glories of war - as seen by the descendants of Anglo-Saxon blood.
Christianity is but an alien influence "worn lightly" by English-Americans.
Whose ancient prowess was so badly needed for the sake of the U.K. - as it was affected by WW1.
Comments: This piece of HPL's war propaganda is an expression of his persistent racist views.
Lovecraft hated that Aryan nations were fighting each other, rather than the real danger - the racially inferior enemies of civilization itself.
Howard harks back to pre-Christian paganism, evoking a philosophy of violence & bloodshed.
But, it's merely a work of fascist rhetoric. One making use of Nordic culture & white supremacist 'dreams.'
This survives today, as some modern Neo-Pagans hold explicit racist beliefs - to the dismay of the more peaceful worshippers.
These Nazi ideals also filter thruout the works of Black Metal, NeoFolk & Martial Industrial music.
For example: Boyd Rice's (of NON) anthem "Total War" has the same central point as HPL's "Battle-Song."
Both see Christ as being for wimps & that soldiers need to be merciless during war...
These same ideas were also present in Germany - since the 1800s onwards. And, reached their peaks before both World Wars.
Lovecraft, sadly, believed in the whole notion of Aryan/Nordic/Teutonic superiority.
But, with his "Battle-Song," Howard seemed to be coming up with an Anglo version of Germany's national- ism.
Though HPL claimed to strongly dis- like romanticism, he did use it for propaganda purposes.
Lovecraft himself states that he wrote "Teuton's Battle-Song" as a rebuke for U.S. pacifism.
Indeed, Howard's sabre-rattling would continue thruout WW1.
And it started long before the sinking of the Lusitania stirred up American resentment against Germany.
"Arthur" (fake-geek-boy) judges that HPL's work is - at this time - notably better than his poems.
Yet, Lovecraft wouldn't abandon his old-fashioned & heavyhanded style - until he finally switched back to writing fiction again.
Strangely enough, Howard was aware of his poetic limits.
But, thought his ability to evoke poetic imagery & emotion was so bad, that he had to maintain a strict metrical form.
HPL actually considered it more important to be formally correct - than creatively interesting - ouch!!
But, he would finally find his inner poetic muse - much later in his life.
Never give up, never surrender...
End.

I Just Work Here (Leon S. Gold, 1965) [YFqL6Yi0RTA]
Thanks to the A/V Geeks for this elegant fable about a lot of things:
communication,
putting yourself in the other person's shoes,
how necessary it is for proper communication (in any context) to imagine how what you're saying is being perceived by the other person,
philosophies of customer service and what sort of social context they presuppose or agree on (especially with regards to class),
but most importantly:
The many ways in which rigid rule-bound systems -- like corporate policy, the law, the filing structure of a database, or the limits of computer operating power -- always clash or at least come into substantial friction with human needs, human flourishing, and how humans naturally approach the world.
No doubt, these non-human structures placed around thought and behavior grow out of the production and profit models of capitalism. This film doesn't seem to notice that living within those rigid systems naturally inclines toward miscommunication, inflexibility, acrimony, and other symptoms of alienation, but it certainly identifies the feelings of helplessness and resignation ("I'm just a cog in the machine," or "I just work here")
In 1965, it's fascinating to see that already these anxieties had surfaced in the sphere of even ephemeral films. Desk Set (1957) is a lovely little romance with a fictional computer at its center, but if I were ever to get into the history of human-computer interaction, AI, or the database again, I think I'd want this little short in my back pocket.

ok google what is the meaning of life
I detest pondering on the meaning of life. When I was younger, I was interested in philosophy. Is till don’t think it’s a fruitless pursuit, but with more wisdom you start to see the divide between people who actually have intriguing concepts, and misled teenagers misquoting the same sources over and over again. Even then, some adults fall into the false genius archetype be it because they huff their own farts for a living or have done too much acid – whichever form of stunted growth they have.
That’s the crux, isn’t it? Intangibles. You have all these people who think life is a game to be won, with one singular vision of success, and blindly following Jordan Peterson or whatever other figurehead will lead you to enlightenment. Ironically, often the same creed to condemn religion. It’s all mindless gesturing. “I want to have a goal to make a lot of money and then I’ll be successful and happy!”, all under the lens of intellectualism. Congratulations, American Dream, you’ve conned more through the guise of trojan horse.
If you’re anti religion – not anti constitution, hating the self righteous Christians and such, but rather the type to wear atheism as a badge of honour – that’s a pretty good sign that I shouldn’t give a fuck as to what you have to say. I’m not religious either, but it’s like magic. I don’t believe in it, but that doesn’t mean I have to shit on people who do, nor does their belief instantly make them a rube – in fact, it can have benefits. If someone is practising religion in a non hateful way that gives their life meaning, that is quite literally the same thing as living your life following vague notions of hope spurred on by whatever science geek you follow.
Religion to me is a means to an end in the exact same way. Of course, there are superficial differences – holidays, bible tales – but what purpose does religion serve in good faith if not a list of guidelines to help people feel fulfilled in life? I was not brought up religious, and there are so many religions that I find no real reason to indulge myself in any – because if I develop my own guidelines, what difference does it really make? Obviously, zealots would say that it’s a self-centred viewpoint, but I don’t care about them and that’s sort of my whole deal. This is to say: I hate to describe my beliefs of what a fulfilling life is and how to lead it, what tenets I have. I used to be the type to think these were things that could be outlined in a book, and sure, they can, but that too often breeds sycophancy. Despite my hate, I write this so I never have to address these topics in the future lest I wish, and when someone asks my beliefs, I hand them this document and summarise: I use intuition and common sense to do what is right. I could probably write my tenets, but what point is there? I have a life to live and I’m aware how I wish to live it, and I think all people can do that if they just live their life rather than sticking their heads in books all the time.
