The day's sun has been mostly under clouds so the spring flower shots I nabbed today are clasped shut. This has been the longest I've seen the spring blooms since they started abnormally early (a month ago at least) but lasted longer thanks to the abnormal freeze/thaw patterns. Too many garden shots for one post so we'll break it down by types- starting with good ol crocues!
They may appear scant in number but out of photograph there's some older patches of yellow crocuses really laying the clumps thick.

Visited the Vampires (Read: Got my yearly bloodwork done; it did not go smoothly this round despite having my usual Nurse. She overshot the vein and had to guide it back in. It hurt. I almost passed out. But I was laying down, so I didn't. Huzzah!). My Husband took us to one of our favorite Coffee places to get a Matcha Latte with Oat Milk as a consolation prize afterwards (and I finally got to meet the Muslim lady working there). So it made up for it. Thank HaShem that's over until next year and I don't have any more blood work to do, though.
It looks like it's going to rain today, so I'm not sure how much I'll actually do gardening wise. I'd like to at least get the rest of the pots cleaned out and get the Tobacco seeded for the Hummingbirds, however; at bare minimum, that's needed. It'd also be nice if we wound up finding their feeder, but at this point we may just have to ask my Father in Law if he has any ideas- or just buy a new one.

New project in the works ! I was making a spreadsheet of when various fruits, veggies, and herbs are in season in my region and while filling it in I realised it looked like a cross stitch pattern. So you'd better believe I'm cross stitching that bad boy 😎🧵

Spent multiple hours today raking several years worth of larch needles and piling them into the blueberry bed for water retention, soil enrichment, and acidification. Got a good 10 inches deep of fluffy mulching.
I'll be doing even more a bit later in the year, to mulch all the grape vines for free, but this was more urgent so we could get these flammables up off the ground before hosting a bonfire for the neighborhood kindergardeners.
I am going to be SO SORE tomorrow, so I sure hope these blueberries appreciate it.

Planting out the autumn garden plot! I'm succession planting so I've planted out about a third of the plot. So far we've got thyme, primulas and seaside daisies for the border (as well as volunteer dill), and in the middle is bok choy, beetroot, cabbage, and silverbeet! Can't wait to see how they grow throughout the season 🥰

The ZZ plant was well overdue for a repot so decided I'd do it before tree pruning today. Shouldn't take that long right?
Oh darling
Tumblr media
How greatly I underestimated what I was getting myself into. It took me several hours to untangle and tickle apart the roots from themselves before I could even think of repotting. I wish I took a photo after I got the roots free but I got interrupted during the repotting process due to having to help with a lamb and ended up forgetting.
The rootballs were so huge that I decided to instead divide apart some of the tubers where I could and repot them into several pots instead of a single giant pot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
one chunk of tuber got separated from the greenery but still had an eye so I threw it into a tiny pot to see what happens as well.
Tumblr media
Two okay-ish stems got broken off accidentally so I decided to throw them in water to try rooting more up- not that I need more ZZ plants when one specimen has already become 3
Tumblr media
While tree pruning outside is taking main priority I've been wanting to work on cleaning repotting up more of the houseplants so may try to juggle a little of each done each day. Will try to report for whichever houseplants get done next.

The Vervain was so hard to photograph; the Taproot that it forms may be over 3 feet deep, but the plant itself is surprisingly tiny- as are its flower spikes. I don't really have a good macro setup that'd make it any easier (and I'm not really sure how to buy lenses that fit my camera right; I did buy a Macro Lens at one point when I first started out, but it wound up being too small despite the product listing saying it'd fit it 😩).
For what it's worth, though, the photo I did manage to get last year during the 2023 growing season isn't the worst ... Just not the best.

Me: haha! The goathead weeds keeping popping up, but I've done a good job keep them under control
Real goathead weeds: *finally start to grow in their actual season* (I've been pulling some kind of burr weed that looks really similar to goathead)
Me: oh...oh no *starts painfully pulling a gazillion goathead weeds by hand*
