Funguary is right around the corner, and I couldn’t be more excited to dive in again! I’ve always had a soft spot for fungi, so I’m eagerly anticipating this year’s creative journey. Who else is jumping on board? Here’s a throwback to some of the mushroom characters I designed last year. 🍄✨

Trying to come up with an angel design based on the cordyceps fungus.

I also thought it could be an interesting idea to explore, evil and corruption spreading on an angel’s body and sprouting in growth that resemble horns… what is a fallen angel if a corrupt being, not in control of their body anymore? I think it’s a cool idea. Still an embryo of an idea tho. I don’t know what it’ll come of it.

Here is a little fairy I designed last spring for 3Dtotal's book ‘Inspired by Nature’! 🍄 This character is based on the weeping milk cap and its ecology - their task is to be a bus for forest mites and take them where they want to go. 🌲🌳🚌 The velvety mushrooms of this fungus species are fed upon by both crane fly and mite species. However, these tiny mites are too small to easily walk between isolated mushrooms so they hitch a ride on the backs of visiting flies to find a new meal! This is an interaction called phoresis in biology and similar hitch-hiking mites can often be found on big beetles who feed on animal carcasses too (another patchy food source). I am soooo normal about her. And I’m reading ‘The Mother Tree’ (a book by a mycologist about mycorrhizal fungi). So I did a Poison Ivy study based on a picture I took on a field trip with other botanists in Alaska.

here are some beautiful mushroom lesbians galavanting around the forest, surrounded by lil fungi, ferns, dragonflies and moths! they are drawn in pentel pocket brush pen with indian ink🌿🍄
