Funguary is right around the corner, and I couldn’t be more excited to dive in again! I’ve always had a soft spot for fungi, so I’m eagerly anticipating this year’s creative journey. Who else is jumping on board? Here’s a throwback to some of the mushroom characters I designed last year. 🍄✨

The mushroom looked kinda like a cloud, and I love drawing dresses. I like to think maybe this is a wedding dress.

Can’t help but feel a bit uncertain about the head on this one – seems a tad more rendered compared to the rest of the body. Took a while to nail down the pose, kept feeling a bit stiff. Imagining this fungi capturing jelly stars in her branch-like fruit bodies. 🍄✨🌌

Funguary Day 8: Satan’s Bolete

I realized I hadn’t drawn a pinup mushroom yet, so I thought this one should be the one. I aimed to give her a classic devilish look.

Funguary Day 17: Dotted Stem Bolete

This one was a bit simpler because, honestly, I was experiencing some art block. I also wanted to experiment with a different body type than I usually do.

Funguary Day 18: Inky Cap

I love the look of this mushroom; there’s something about it that feels like it’s from a dark fantasy. I actually knew this mushroom becomes poisonous when you drink alcohol, so I wanted to add my favorite type of alcohol: whiskey ;)

Funguary day 16: Enoki

Had the pleasure of eating this mushroom recently at a Japanese barbecue place – it is absolutely delicious! I think this is my favorite edible mushroom I’ve had. I was inspired by the restaurant, so I gave her chopsticks and added some steam coming off her.

Hey everyone! I took a little break, but I’m back now. I’ll be finishing up last week’s prompts while I work on the current ones, but at a slower pace. So, some days might have two entries when I’m done with the demonic ones :) This week, I’m also hoping to add a mushroom dish with each design.

Well, I’m a bit behind schedule :’) Anyway, this one was pretty straightforward to complete thanks to its single color. I aimed for a fluffy texture with this character

Ahhh, I feel like I’m already falling behind 😭 I like to be one ahead at least! Anyway, I was inspired by how this mushroom has been mentioned in Japanese folklore.

And that wraps up Funguary! I’m a bit disappointed that I had to skip several days this month; life outside of art turned out to be busier than expected. Nonetheless, I’m committed to completing the remaining days, but I’ll take my time to avoid burning out. For this mushroom character, I took inspiration from a real-life reference I had in a jar. As you can see, the actual mushroom looked rather plain, so I imagined what it might look like if ingested.

End of week one! The penicillin in the petri dish looked kind of like a galaxy, so I dressed her in a galaxy gown.

Delving into the world of mushrooms is fascinating, especially with this particular species, which has only been documented eight times. I felt that since the mushroom has only been seen eight times, she must be very lonely
