FUCK this glitchy/flashy/shaky/static effects trend that every person who makes any sort of media is getting into and putting everywhere without any trigger warnings whatsoever!
You are making it impossible for people like me with seizure, vision, photosensitivity, etc issues to engage with any media (especially videos and/or reels taking over) AT ALL!
So tired of it, fuck the ads everywhere (even here now!), fuck the reels taking over, fuck this flashy effects trend, fuck it all.
Sincerely, someone with severe vision, photosensitivity, and seizure issues, who is being forced away from every form of media for the sake of their own health.

i hate you plastic surgeons on social media who speculate about what work celebrities and influencers have had done. i hate you celebrities and influencers who pump their faces and bodies with fillers and/or get surgery after surgery, then proceed to lie about it all for years, crediting some bullshit weight loss tea or dumb workout routine or ‘holy grail’ beauty product. i hate you fashion brands who make their clothes to suit a very specific body type that only a small percent of people have and only carry a small range of sizes bc, fuck it, they feel like it.
i hate you diet companies for pushing unrealistic standards, promising unrealistic results, targeting mostly young women and girls, and just straight up lying to people in much of your advertising. i hate you social media (especially fucking instagram) for pushing a bullshit, unrealistic beauty standard and telling us that we all have to meet it or else we’re ugly and unlovable. i hate you “legging legs” and “body by ozempic” and “buccal fat removal” and “bbl body” and “heroin chic,” i hate you body type trends.
i hate you people who feel the fucking need to incessantly comment on the foods people eat and their body size and tell them that “that’s so unhealthy” as if they don’t already fucking know that!! just let them fucking enjoy their goddamn meal and feel comfortable in their own skin!!! it’s not that fucking hard!!! i hate you skincare companies that market your anti-aging products to teenage girls and women in their twenties. i hate you doctors who refuse to take women, trans people, people of color, fat people, and those who belong to two or more of those identities seriously when they come to you with their health issues.
i hate you politicians for turning something as simple as preferred pronouns into ammunition for your bullshit ideological warfare that you use to distract from the fact that many of your constituents can’t even afford to live and that, currently, you are working as hard as you possibly can to strip our rights away and set us back decades upon decades. i hate you news stations who would rather focus on celebrities and their lavish fashion and their lavish events and their lavish PR stunts than the genocides and geopolitical conflicts in Palestine, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Artsakh, etc.

Why is Youtube Disabling AdBlock?
Youtube enforcing the removal of adblock and forcing its audience to watch 30-60 second long ads is probably one of the stupidest moves I've seen a platform make so far, and I've seen a LOT of bad moves made by social media platforms (like Call of Duty, Netflix and Tumblr are one of many examples). They're doing so because somehow, they NEED more revenue??? Bitch fucking please.
These platforms are so out of touch and money hungry it's sad. What's even sadder is that they could make even more money if they actually listened to their fanbase... The only thing they're accomplishing is driving people away.
Someone needs to create a new platform that's an exact copy of youtube but without ads, where creators make money based on views and/or likes.
I think, in my mid-twenties, I've finally thrown in the towel on social media. It's time.

Bye to (most) social media
Tumblr is on a tight leash. Start sharing my activity everywhere and with everyone, and Tumblr goes bye too.
Tumblr media
Elysia shares my feelings about social media.
The unforgivable sin of social media is sharing what I'm doing without my permission. If I'm on a website or app, or playing a game, and you decide to inform everyone of where I am and what I'm doing - I'm out.
Peace.
Deuces, motherfucker.

I beg of you, stop calling yourselves content creators. You're writers, artists, costumers, entertainers, musicians... whatever specific thing you are, but stop referring to yourselves as mere "content creators".
It's a category social media uses to lump as all together so they can distinguish between those of us that fill their platform with content and those that consume it.
Can we please kill this mindset? We're more than machines that churn out products others can bank on.
You're not creating content, you're creating art.

Do It For You
I haven't been posting my art as much. The reason? I'm tired of attempting to coerce whatever algorithm each site is using to reach my current followers or even new followers—and that includes Tumblr. I was doing pretty good on Instagram... until they changed their algos to favor big influencers more, which happened sometime in August.
Actually, Tumblr seems to be the worst offender compared to other sites. Or I'm probably getting pissy because of the tabs "For You", "Your tags", and "Following"—all three show me the same shit I saw a few days ago. And don't even get me started on Tumblr Live. If I wanted Only Fans, I'd go to Only Fans. But I digress...
Since then, I've slowed down on posting artwork of any sort on all platforms that I'm part of. Yesterday was probably the first piece I've posted in a while, and that was basically done on a whim.
Anyway, what it boils down to is I am (and a lot of other people) are tired of sacrificing mental health for likes because in order to keep the engagement, you have to constantly churn out piece after piece. Unfortunately, the algorithms seem to favor quantity over quality—you can bust your ass on a piece, but someone else churning out prompts (yes, I'm referring to AI art) can get more engagement because that's what the algos favor: speed.
AI art is problematic by itself—for many reasons, the least of which is how the AI algo is trained. However, that is a complicated mess and another thoughtful post for another time.
On the flip-side, algorithms also favor videos over static content—Insta's in particular (basically favoring the sloppy seconds of TikTok over genuine content). On that subject, I like YouTube's implementation (Shorts) better than Instagram's anyway.
All that being said, the current climate of the internet is hostile to content creators. Twenty years ago, you didn't have this uphill battle of trying to train an algorithm just to get views. Really, all you had to do optimize for search engines and you were pretty much set.
Now, it's a balance between your mental health and trying to retain the level of engagement that you do have, and then become frustrated when you're doing everything right and still get fucked because some bean-counter decided that they want more profits.
It's almost too easy to get discouraged and think that what you're doing doesn't matter and all you're really doing is shouting into the void. When that happens, you have to ask yourself these questions:
Who are you doing this for? (0 for someone else, 10 for yourself)
Do you like making art? (0 for no, 10 for yes)
Do you want the attention (rate 0 to 10)
Are you only doing this for likes (rate 0 to 10)
Yeah, I made that up on the spot. Whatever score for each question you come up with will tell you where your priorities are. If you're doing this for anything other than enjoyment or for yourself, well... that leads me to my next part:
You see, I learned a long time ago that when you're doing something mental/time-intensive for reasons other than pure enjoyment, it is very easy to get burned out quickly. I know this because once upon a time, I used to enjoy writing code. After graduation, I spent my free time trying to improve my skills—not for myself or because I enjoyed it, but because I thought it was the only way for me to retain a job in my field.
Well, I think we know how that ended—badly.
Because of my past experiences, I made a decision a while ago that what I'm doing, I'm doing for me (and maybe my boyfriend) but not for anyone else. The stories I write, the artwork I create. I'm not doing it for likes, I'm doing it for me, because I like what I do. Because I like the creative process and seeing how far can I push my skills.
So keep that in mind if you're struggling with mental-health and trying to beat bullshit algorithms. It's not worth the stress, and that stress just steals energy from your creativity.
You're doing what you love for you and maybe a few others—not for likes, attentions, engagement or whatever fake internet points exist nowadays.
Remember: do it for you!

I fucking hate instagram. All I want to do is share my art and build a following so I can have a small community of people who enjoy my shut but my posts don’t even get seen to the people who do follow me and have been following me for a while. I post everyday but I always take them down because they go hours like more than seven hours with zero interaction. And I make those stupid ass reels and people don’t even see that it’s like, tiktok part two. If I wanted to use TikTok, I WOULD DOWNLOAD THE DAMN APP. like all I wanna do is share my art and have people to talk about my ocs and interests to. Even if it’s like three people. And I can’t even do that. Fuck these stupid ass billionaires. Like they’re fucking over so many small businesses and accounts and artists that just want to be seen.
