From: Family, Familia, ‘Ohana, Chapter 13, Buck POV
Fandom: 911, H50, SWAT
Pairings: Evan Buckley/Eddie Diaz, Steve McGarrett/Daniel Williams, platonic Deacon/Hondo
Fic summary:
When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.
Tags/warnings: first draft. Not sure if this scene is going to start/stay the same in final draft. NavySeal!Buck, set post lawsuit/tsunami arc. Slow burn (as of now my drafts are >150k). Kidnapping mentioned this part. Eddie and Buck are talking/making things work.
Tumblr media
“I thought you hated beaches anymore—after the tsunami.” Eddie’s voice is startlingly close, and Buck twists to look up at Eddie, who is kicking off his borrowed sandals to take a seat on the sand next to him. The smile on Eddie’s face is relaxed, with no signs of the stress of the last few days except for the bruise over his left cheek.
Buck can’t help but snap a bit at the joking tone, feeling a bit too raw and open after being reminded it was his fault Eddie had been taken. “It’s not the beach that bothers me.”
“Well,” Eddie drawls as he sends up a small sandstorm by plopping into the sand close enough for Buck to feel his body heat and knocking into Buck’s shoulder, “then why are you out here glaring at the water like it has personally offended you?”
“It’s not…” Buck gapes at Eddie. “How can you be so…”
“So what?”
The little smile on Eddie’s face grates on Buck’s last nerve. “So I should be okay with you getting taken because of me?!?”
“It wasn’t your fault.”
“Yes, it was!” Buck snaps. “It was all my fault!”
“No—it was Wo Fat’s fault,” Eddie repeats calmly. “You didn’t kidnap me.”
“Well, he kidnapped you because he wanted me to leave Steve,” Buck irritably points out.
“Again, it was his fault. He’s the one who ordered them to jump me and bring me here to Hawaii. Not you.”
“But,” Buck’s voice breaks, and he barely bites back the sob that wants to escape his chest. He feels like he can’t breathe and it was his fault Eddie was taken, that Christopher was parentless for how many days, and now Eddie is here and he’s… he’s….
“Buck, it wasn’t your fault. People do terrible things all the time. Not everything is your fault, even if it was partially about you.”
“It was because of me,” Buck insists stubbornly.
“And did you do what Wo Fat wanted?” Eddie asks instead, leaning in slightly so their shoulders are brushing together again, separated only by the thin cotton of their t-shirts.
“No!”
Eddie’s perfectly shaped eyebrow does that questioning lift thing, and those whiskey-brown eyes are silently laughing at Buck, his lips still stubbornly quirked into a smile, driving Buck insane. It’s the look that Eddie gives him when he’s being too stubborn and won’t see reason, but Buck is trying to point out to Eddie that it really is his fault this time.
“It’s not…” Buck struggles to find the right words to express his point. Eddie had been taken because of him. He’d gotten hurt because of Buck. Christopher had been scared and alone because of Buck. “You got hurt because of me. Christopher is alone in LA without you because of me.”
“Again, it’s Wo Fat’s fault. You leaving Steve and 5-0 might have been his goal—which I’m glad you didn’t do—but it is his fault, not yours, Buck. Get that through your thick skull. It. Was. Not. Your. Fault.”
Buck hates it when Eddie is like this. He knows he can’t refute Eddie’s statement, but he still feels like an elephant is sitting on his chest, and Buck can’t take a deep breath. “It feels like it is.”
“I know,” Eddie lifts his arm and slides it around Buck’s shoulders, pulling him in close, thumb rubbing against the skin right above Buck’s collar bone.
Buck’s body betrays him, and he all but melts into the half-hug. He wants to bury his face in Eddie’s neck and shut out the world for a few minutes, hours—fucking days if he could. Buck is losing that headspace that he always depended upon when he was working as an active duty Seal, and without it, he feels like a quivering mess, so he glares out at the water and the sun beginning to head for the horizon.
He doesn’t want to disappoint Eddie by breaking down on him. Eddie was the one who just went through a traumatizing experience—not Buck.
“Buck, look at me.”
He can’t. If he looks at Eddie and Eddie is being Eddie and nice and—
“Buck.”
The tone of Eddie’s voice is all command and years of conditioning, first by the Navy and then by being Eddie’s partner at work, has Buck shifting to meet Eddie’s eyes, which shine with a warmth that chases away the chill of the wind coming from across the water.
“It wasn’t your fault. You taking time to get yourself straightened out while I was being an idiot? Not your fault. I want you to take care of yourself. I need you to put yourself first sometimes,” Eddie calmly states, and each word rings in Buck’s ears.
“You need me to?”
“I do.”
“Okay,” Buck weakly agrees. He’s helplessly held in place by Eddie’s gaze and the light touch where neck and shoulder meet.
“I need you to take care of yourself just as much as I need to take care of myself, but I also want to be there to help you when you need it.”
“Me too. I want to be there for you, Eddie.”
The corner of Eddie’s mouth quirks up. “We’re partners, Buck. I have your back, and you have mine.”
“Yeah…” Buck wants to be more than just Eddie’s work partner. They’d started talking about this before Eddie’d been taken, but maybe things have changed? Maybe Eddie’s reconsidered? Those discussions had been before… before Eddie had been taken.
Eddie reads him like a book, noticing the creeping doubt that whispers poisonous thoughts in Buck’s ear. “Stop it. Whatever you’re blaming yourself for—stop it.”
“I can’t help it.”
“Then let me help,” Eddie insists, tugging Buck closer, and the hot touch across Buck’s shoulder slips down to warp around his waist, trapping him as Eddie’s torso twists so he’s sideways, and Buck is pulled into his chest with a thump and trapped between Eddie’s arms. Buck is warm, and he never wants to move.
“Eddie… what are we doing?” Buck asks, needing to know. What does Eddie want from him? He’s everything to Buck.
“I…”
Buck has caught Eddie off guard with his question, and the other man licks his lips before replying.
“I want to find a way for us to move forward,” Eddie cautiously says.
“Forward?”
Eddie nods, a hand carding through Buck’s hair and then rubbing the back of his neck. Biting his lip and struggling visibly to find the words, vulnerability emanates from Eddie in waves that crash up on Buck, making him want to burrow further into Eddie’s hold and hide from what he’s sure is going to be something terrible that Eddie has to say.
“I... I feel like there’s this part of you that I never knew about, and then I found out about the Seals, your life before me, and the 118 with McGarrett; I didn’t have a clue.”
“I would have told you if I knew you wanted to know.”
“I know you would have. I just…” Eddie pauses, squeezing Buck’s neck to emphasize his point. “It makes me want to know what else I don’t know about you. I want to know everything about you.”
“Everything?”
“Yeah, and I want you to know everything about me which scares the ever-living fuck out of me.”
“It’s scary knowing someone,” Buck echoes, wanting Eddie to keep talking.

Meet Aether Beyond the Binary Contributor Terra P. Waters
Another day, another AETHER BEYOND THE BINARY creator to shine the spotlight on!
Before we get to that, just a note: hi, I’m Nina Waters, the lead editor, the person running this campaign, and the one who writes all these blog posts. I’ll be traveling for the next four days (Friday, Jan 12 – Monday, Jan 15) to vend for Duck Prints Press at Arisia in Boston. As a result, I will be slower to answer messages, reply to comments, and post updates (I’m going to try to post one, but I’m not sure I’ll have time). I appreciate your patience while I’m less available. And if by some chance, you’re attending the con, make sure you come and say hi! I’ll be at table D14 in the dealer’s room.
Now, on to Terra…!
Tumblr media
About Terra: Terra is a scientist by day who lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family. She has been writing fiction as long as she can remember, and has always told her partner of 17 years that if she wasn’t a scientist, she would be an author. During grad school, she discovered fanfiction and immediately began writing her own. After many years and several fandoms (including Teen Wolf, Hawaii Five-0, and Stranger Things), she returned to writing original fiction. To date, she has self-published two novellas in a 90s-nostalgia polyamory comedy series and has drafted two YA/NA sci-fi novels. When not doing science or writing, you can find Terra indulging her yarn addiction and knitting.
Links: Archive of Our Own | Tumblr (pterawaters) | Tumblr (terrapwaters) | Instagram | Bluesky
Terra has previously published one short stories with Duck Prints Press, a Patreon-exclusive entitled The Wayward Timekeeper, and she also wanted to share a few of her works from AO3:
Kope Kamekona (Hawaii Five-O, Steve McGarrett/Catherine Rollins/Danny Williams)
Forever’s gonna start tonight (Stranger Things, A/B/O, multiple ships and ot3s)
Other Delicacies (Our Flag Means Death, Ed Teach/Stede Bonnet) – this is the piece that Terra used to apply to Duck Prints Press, and several of us reviewers liked it so much that we sought it out and read the whole thing even though we aren’t in the fandom!
An Interview with Terra P. Waters
What motivates you to create?
My love for the ideas!
How did you pick the name you create under?
I’ve been using the name “pterawaters” since 2009, when I joined fanfiction.net. “Ptera” came from an old gaming character I had, “Ptera the Pterrible,” and “Waters” was a last name I really liked the sound of. For my original writing, I decided to go with a more conventional version of the name. I moved the P from the front of my name to the middle initial as an homage to my fannish writing name.
What do you consider to be your strengths as a creator?
My ability to brainstorm scenarios and know how to outline the plot from there. Longer-form works, where I get to dig into the character motivations and development. World building.
What do you consider to be your weaknesses as a creator?
Short stories, creating characters who serve the story I want to tell, adding enough description around the dialog and plot.
When and why did you begin creating?
I’ve been writing since I was a kid, and even took a lot of creative writing classes during college (aside from my science major). I get a lot of joy out of thinking “what if…” and then turning that idea into a story.
Are you a pantser, a planner, or a planster? What’s your process look like?
I’m most often a planner. I like to outline the story beats of any project before I write. Sometimes, I’ll be more of a plantser. I’ll write 1-2k words of an idea before I do the rest of the outline, so I can see if it’s an idea worth planning out further.
Which of your own creations is your favorite? Why?
I wrote a story called “Entanglement” that was part of a long Stranger Things fanwork series. It’s absolutely my favorite thing I’ve ever written, and I’m excited to get to the point where I can incorporate the rewritten version into my sci-fi series.
What are your favorite tropes?
Polyamory, First times/Getting together, Forced proximity (cuddling for warmth, only one bed), Soulmate AUs, Omegaverse, Fake relationship, Friends to Lovers
What are your favorite snacks and/or drinks to consume while creating?
I like herbal tea, candy, or a crunchy snack like popcorn. I’ve recently gotten into eating roasted lentils, which is a nice substitute for not being able to eat nuts anymore.
What is your “dream project” – the thing you’d see as the culmination of your work as a creator?
I want to finish a series of at least 4 novels and have them all in print.
When you look at your “career” as a creator, what  achievement would you most like to reach – what, if it happened or has  already happened, would/did make you go “now – now I’m a success!”?
I would like to have at least one full-length novel printed and for people to actually buy it!
Tell us about your pet(s).
I have two orange cats, Gadget (the chonk) and Gizmo (anxiety in animal form).
Tumblr media
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Finish the thing. My writing got so much better once I forced myself to finish fan works so I could put them up for other people to read. Practicing the first part of writing a story without practicing how to write the end leaves you never finishing anything.

Excerpt:
Victoria turned and ran a hand over the runes again. “What bothers me is that these are early Age of Aether markings. You see the way they’re using archaic forms of our letters?”
Sasha leaned closer. “I’ll be damned. This doesn’t match the bronze-era artifacts in the rest of the cave, either.” They made a tiny humming noise. “Who else would have this much knowledge of ancient runes?”
As Victoria leaned as close as she could to the wall, she asked distractedly, “What do you mean?”
“Obviously, it’s a fake,” they said, mulling over the problem in their head. “Sanderson has wanted my place on the admissions committee since he joined the department.”
“What if it’s not a fake?” Victoria made a tiny, excited noise. “What if this is early Aether Age work? What if this is a secret that’s been buried for almost a thousand years?”
Sasha’s heart swooped at the thought. “We have to find out what that inscription says.”
You've read the interview! You've read the excerpt! Now go back the campaign!

This is a request from @kati-1997
I bite my tongue to keep from screaming as I hide behind a dumpster. Little background story, okay so, I have a cat named Mittens and she got loose and me, being the ever loving mother that I am, chases her into an alley, where I’m currently hiding behind a dumpster watching a man stab another man to death. I look around and think the coast is clear so I take off running and being the clumsy ass that I am trips over a box and catches the attention of the murderer.
I get up again and take off running as he chases behind me. I run into the crowded street and try and scream when a hand is out over my mouth and I’m dragged into another alley. I let the tears fall down my face as I’m slammed against a wall. I look into the face of the murderer and chock on my breath, it’s Marcus Young. Another back story, Marcus Young is the son of a multi millionaire and is suspected in four murders, gun smuggling, drug smuggling, human trafficking, and God only knows what else. There’s been witnesses, but they’ve all mysteriously vanished or turned up dead in an unfortunate accident days before the trial.
I glance down at the knife and back into his face before I do possibly the stupidest thing I’ve ever done I scream. I scream at the top of my lungs before kneeing him right in the crotch and I take off running again when he falls to the ground in pain.
I pant as I bust through the door of the HPD. I run to the desk sobbing, “You have to help me, please you have to help me.” An officer comes over to me and tries to calm me down, but there is no calming me down, “Ma’am please slow down, what happened.” I grab onto his arms and shake, “He killed him, and then tried to kill me, I got away but he’s going to kill me, I know he is. Please, you have to protect me!”
By now there are four officers trying to assess the situation and calm me down, “Who? Who tried to kill you?” I sucked in a breath, “Marcus, Marcus Young.”
With those words everyone started scrambling as the officer yelled, “Someone call Commander Steve McGarrett and tell him to get down here ASAP!” I cling onto the officers arm as he leads me to an interrogation room. I sit down and wrap myself with my arms and screech when the door is thrown open to reveal a tall muscular man with black hair and piercing blue eyes followed by a short not as muscular blonde with blue eyes. I quickly recognize them as Commander McGarrett and Detective Williams of the 5-0 task force.
Commander McGarrett pulls the chair across from me out before sitting down. He scans me over and I see his demeanor quickly change from determination and anger to calm and understanding, “What’s your name ma’am.” I wring my hands together, “Y-Y/N.” He nods, “Okay Y/N, can you tell me exactly what happened?”
I tell him and Detective Williams what happened and I gasp, “Oh no!” Commander McGarrett glances at me in alarm and I continue, “Mittens! I didn’t find Mittens! She’s all alone, outside!” Detective Williams walks forward, “Don’t worry it’s just a cat, she’ll survive on her own.” McGarrett spins around and glares at the short detective and I stand up now a little pissed, “No disrespect Detective Williams but my cat is the only family I have and if you think I’m going to leave her outside by one of the busiest roads in Oahu you are sadly mistaken! I would rather die than lose Mittens!”
He stares at me as well as his partner before he splutters, “That’s exactly what will happen if you go looking for her.” I feel my eye twitch before I growl, “Then so be it!” And then I’m storming out the door to go find my cat.
Steve’s POV
I look at Danny irritated, “What the hell Danny!? It’s her cat and obviously she cares deeply for Mittens.”
He scoffs, “Seriously? Of course you’d take the suicidal cat lovers side. You know you and her would get along great maybe when it’s all over and if she’s still alive you can take her out to coffee.”
I roll my eyes before pushing past him and running down the hall after Y/N, “Y/N! Wait!” She stops and spins around, “Yes, Commander.” I sigh and walk to her, “I’ll go with you to find Mittens.”
Y/N’s POV
I smile and hug him, “Thank you!” He awkwardly hugs back as everyone in the station watches, “It’s not a problem but I’m going with you.” I nod, “I could tell I liked you.”
In minutes I’m sitting in the back seat of a black Camaro speeding down the freeway with a pouting blonde and a smiling brunette, “Something tells me Detective Williams isn’t a cat person.” The commander shakes his head, “Oh absolutely not, hates them, thinks they’re the devil himself.”
I glare at the detective, “Well then, I’m glad he has a smart partner.” Williams scoffs as if I just told the biggest lie he’s ever heard. I make eye contact with McGarrett through the rearview mirror and he smiles, “Thank you Y/N and please call me Steve,” he points over to the blonde and continues, “And the pessimistic blonde over here is Danny.” I nod before I recognize where we are.
When I get out of the car I lead them down the alley to see the guy that I watched get murdered. I turn and bite back tears as Steve wraps his arms around me in a comforting manner, “Danny call CSU.”
When everything is taken care of the boys and I go on the hunt for Mittens. Steve pokes up from behind a trash can holding a little black and white cat with white feet and a pink collar, “This Mittens?” I screech and run over, “Mittens! Thank God you’re okay!” I take her from Steve’s hands and pepper her face in kisses.
I cuddle Mittens and look between Steve, Danny, and the rest of their team since Steve recruited them to help find Mittens, “I need to go back to my place.” Steve walks towards me, “No absolutely not, Marcus gets rid of witnesses and I sure as hell am not going to let that happen to you.” I smile at him, “Well, then where am I staying?”
I drop my bag inside the door with Mittens on my shoulder, “Hmm, nice house.” Steve comes in behind me and nods, “Thanks, look I’m sorry we didn’t set you up somewhere nicer but this is the only way we can guarantee your safety.” I look around, “Honestly, I’d prefer staying here and feeling safe than staying at home or in a hotel worried someone is going to stab me in my sleep.”
He nods, “Yeah I get that.” After the grand tour of the house he shows me into a bedroom that is very obviously lived in and if the smell tells me anything, it’s Steve’s room, “This is where you’ll be staying, I have a spare room but Junior, you met him earlier, that’s his room.” I nod and furrow my eyebrows, “Then where are you sleeping?”
“The couch.”
I frown and shake my head, “No.” He looks at me and chuckles, “It’s okay I was in the Navy I’ve slept on worse and I’m not letting you sleep on the couch even if I wanted to, it’s to close to the door.”
I cross my arms and think, “Fine, you’ll stay here with me.” He blinks a few times before rubbing the back of his neck, “Yeahhh, I don’t know. I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable.” I glance at him and shrug, “Trust me I’ve done a lot worse than sleep in the same bed with someone I just met.” He raises and eyebrow and I chuckle, “Oh nuh uh, I ain’t telling a cop half the dumb shit I did.”
Time Skip
I sit outside on the patio with a beer in my hand and turn at the sound of claws hitting concrete. I turn to see a golden lab coming towards me. I quirk a smile and pet him when he set his head on my lap, “Where’d you come from fella?” I look up to see the man I quickly recognize as Junior comes out followed by Steve, “He’s Steve’s dog.” I smile and look at Steve, “A dog and a cat person, I really did find a gem.” He laughs and sits beside me, “Mittens won’t mind him will she?” I wave my hand and take a swig of beer, “Nah, she’ll be fine. She was raised around a dog.”
I laugh at another story Steve tells me from his time with Navy, “Oh that is pure gold! You really did that!?” He nods, “Yeah I don’t do too many smart things.” I laugh, “I don’t either. I’ll tell you a story but you have to promise not to arrest me.” He chuckles and nods, “As long as it’s not murder we’re good.” I laugh, “Well it’s not murder. Anyways this one time when I was in college I got drunk and went streaking through the campus, somehow didn’t get caught but it was fun until the hangover.” He chuckles and I continue, “Another time I did get in a knockout drag out fight with someone, it almost got me expelled from college.” He looks at me in question and I look down and sigh, “It was this dude, Derrick, he uh went out with my best friend at the time and drugged her and raped her. I found out and beat the living shit out of him. There was no proof so he didn’t get charged and I got mad and almost got arrested for it.”
He looked at me not with pity but understanding, something I admired him for, he didn’t hand out sympathy and pity he told you how it was, “What happened to her?” I look down as tears cloud my vision. I look out at the skyline and wipe away a tear, “She uh, she committed suicide a year ago, never got over the memories I guess and one day I came home and found her in our bathtub with gashed wrists. M.E. said she had water in her lungs so she went under before she was dead. She bled to death and drowned all at the same time.”
He turned in his chair and laid a hand on my knee, “It’s not your fault.”
“I know.”
“No, you don’t. I can see it in your eyes, it’s the same thing that lived in mine for years. You did everything you could for her. Nothing you did would have changed what happened.” I nod and set my beer down, “God, I’m so pathetic. I’m crying over this when you’ve literally been to hell and back and seen things and done things no man should have to do.”
He shrugged, “It doesn’t change how you feel, yeah I’ve been through hell but that doesn’t mean her death isn’t any less significant.” I nod before looking at him with a genuine smile, “Thank you Steve.”
I sit up in bed with a gasp as I pant for breath. I quickly feel the bed shift as Steve sits up and grabs my arms, “Hey, hey it’s okay. It’s okay, no one’s here.” I suck in deep breaths as he grounds me before I relax into his grasp, “I’m sorry.” He looks at me in the moonlight and shakes his head, “It’s okay, I’ve been there.” I smile and lean into his chest as I nod, the next thing I know I’m drifting off to sleep in his comforting arms.
I open my eyes and wince at the sunlight before sitting up in bed to see it’s empty. I stretch and smile remembering how Steve calmed me down before I get out of bed and start down the stairs. I walk in the kitchen and chuckle when Steve turns around and I notice Mittens perched on his shoulder the way she sits on mine, “Morning sleeping beauty.” I roll my eyes and scratch Mittens’ chin causing her to purr, “How long have you been up?” He glances at his phone before thinking, “Like 15 minutes.” I roll my eyes, “Oh my how could I sleep in soooo late.” He nods, “I know right.”
I skip up the stairs after deciding to go on a swim with Steve, luckily I brought a couple bathing suits. I slip on my black bikini before grabbing two towels out of Steve’s bathroom, per his request, before skipping down the stairs.
I walk back into the kitchen and blush as Steve looks at me. I glance at him and bite my lip since he’s shed his shirt and was left only in his swim trunks. I’m broke out of my daze, “You ready?”
I nod my head and head outside following behind Steve. When we get in the water I watch as Steve disappears below the surface and I screech as I’m pulled under. When I resurface I’m deeper in the ocean and I splutter the water out of my mouth. I glare at Steve while pushing my hair out of the way. He looks at me with a goofy grin and I splash him with water, “You jerk.” He grabs my hips and pulls me in, “It was worth it to see your face.” I roll my eyes and furrow my brows before I bring a hand to his hair to fix it so it wasn’t on his face. As I run my fingers through his hair I start humming ‘Harleys in Hawaii’ by Katy Perry remembering the one part of the song. He pulls back and chuckles, “What are you humming?” I take my hands out of his hair and chuckle, “Harleys in Hawaii.” He furrows his eyebrows, “Why?” I laugh and hold his shoulders, “Because the one part of the lyrics says ‘let me run my fingers through your salty hair.’” He opens his mouth in an oh shape before asking, “Wait aren’t the next lyrics like, explore the island or something?”
I nod and he shrugs, “Doesn’t apply to me I’ve seen the island.” I bite my lip, “Steve?” He hums out a what and I blush, “I’m pretty sure she meant for the guy to explore her, ya know?” He furrows his eyebrows before he gets what I’m saying, “Oh, oh, yeah, I haven’t done that.” I chuckle and sing song, “Yet.” His eyes widen in surprise, “W-what?” I smirk and push off of him to swim a lap before yelling, “You heard me!”
When we finish our swim Steve tackles me back into the water I resurface and spit water out, “Would you stop that!?” He hums as he pretend thinks before tickling me, “Nope.”
I thrash around in the water as I giggle and yell at him to stop. He doesn’t stop and keeps going and I grab his shoulders, “S-st-stop!” “Nope.” I wiggle in his grasp before wrapping my legs around his waist and pulling myself right against his body to block my stomach. He looks down at me and I look up at him and he starts to lean in before we jerk away at Danny’s voice, “Steve! Where are you!?” I jump off of him and walk to shore followed by Steve. When we get there I grab my towel and dry my hair and then my body before looking between Danny, who had just found us, and Steve, “I um, I’m gonna head uh inside.” I don’t wait for an answer before I rush inside and beeline upstairs. Did we really almost kiss? Did I want him to kiss me? Would he actually ask me out after? I think the answer to all those questions is yes.
Steve’s POV
I lower my head to kiss Y/N until Danny yells and she jerks away before untangling herself and rushing towards shore. When she’s in the house Danny looks at me as I glare at him, “What? Did I interrupt something?” I glare before aggressively grabbing my towel and his eyes widen, “Shit I did didn’t I?”
I spin around and throw my towel at him, “Yeah dipshit you kinda did!” He rushes after me as I walk towards the house, “I’m sorry okay, I can leave and come back!?” I walk into the house to see Junior in the kitchen, “Hey, how did you convince her to go swimming with you in the morning?” I shrug, “Said she liked swimming, she’s pretty good.”
They watch me as I grabs a glass of water and I snap at them, “What!” They shake their heads before Junior says, “It’s just you seem agitated…sir.” I put my glass beside the sink before going upstairs. I walk into my room to grab some clothes and spin around when the bathroom door opens and Y/N walks out in nothing but a towel.
Y/N’s POV
I hum as I get out of the shower and smile as I wrap a towel around my body and think about the almost kiss.
I walk out the door and into the bedroom and grip the towel a little tighter when I see Steve staring at me surprised before he apologizes, “I’m sorry I was expecting you to take a little longer, most girls take long showers.” I chuckle, “Its okay Steve, and I’m not like most girls.” I walk a little closer to grab my clothes from the bed and accidentally trip over my shoe and catch myself on Steve’s chest. He looks down and whispers, “I’ve noticed.” I blush as I look into his eyes and see the same look in his eyes as when we were in the ocean. I hold my towel with both hands as I whisper, “Kiss me.”
He glances at me to see if I’m being sincere and when he sees I mean it he grabs me and pulls me into a kiss. I move in closer and deepen the kiss as his hand runs through my hair. I release my towel and grab the back of his head to pull him closer. I shiver as my towel falls around my feet and moan into his mouth as his one hand runs down my back and stops at my hip and pulling me in impossibly closer.
I run my hands across his shoulders before he picks me up and I wrap my legs around his waist before he spins us around. I pull him onto the bed with me and throw my hand back knocking my bag onto the floor. I sit up pushing Steve to stand as I blush before darting to the ground to pick up my towel, “As much as I would love to do this I’m not going to do it with Danny and Junior here,” I walk past him and pat his chest after I grab my bag and head back to the bathroom, “And you owe me a date, and then we’ll continue this.”
One Day Later
I follow Steve into 5-0 headquarters looking around. I smile as I see Tani. Tani and I spent most of yesterday together while Steve and Danny worked a case. I walk over and give her a hug before waving at Lou. He smiles and nods, “Hey Y/N.” I nod before walking back over to Steve and standing side by side. He glanced at me with a small smile before turning to everyone else as they start working on a different case.
I lean back in Steve’s office chair and throw my feet up on his desk while doing a word search. I glance up as my babysitter for the day walks in, “He’s going to kill you if he sees you not only in his chair but with your feet on his desk.” I glance up and shrug, “Ehh, I’ll be fine, Danny.”
He scoffs and circles the desk peeking over my shoulder, “What are you doing?” I throw him a look before answering sarcastically, “Oh I don’t know paper machete.” He glares at me and fights back a smile before I laugh. He laughs and nods, “You spend too much time with Steve.” I smile at the thought of Steve and he plops down in a chair on the opposite side of the desk, “Now that is not a smile you smile when you’re humored rather a smile you smile when you’re thinking about a special someone.”
I blush and look back down at my word search ignoring him but he’s not having it, “Oh no no don’t you dare, tell me.” I chuckle, “Danny we aren’t teenagers.” He smirks, “Isn’t stopping you from having a teenage crush.” I throw him a glare, “It is not a teenage crush.”
“It’s only not a teenage crush if you make a move on it.”
I hum and circle another word and he leans forward, “That is unless you have made a move.”
I shrug, “We sleep in the same bed, what do you expect?”
His mouth drops and I smile as the door opens again to reveal Steve. He comes in and steals my word search and then steals the pen from my mouth and circled a word, “You missed gorgeous.” I click my tongue and steal it back as steve looks at Danny and rolls his eyes, “It was a word on the word search Danno.” I smirk and give Steve a mischievous smile telling him I know that gorgeous was indeed not a word on my word search.
I laugh at a stupid joke Danny made as we ate dinner at Steve’s after Steve got a call and excused himself. I glance at Steve and my smile slips away as he looks at me worried before he gets off the phone. When he comes over and sits back down beside me he squeezes my thigh, “That was Duke from HPD.” I nod my head as I remember the name from the other day, “Yeah, what did he need.” Steve glances around the table before licking his lips, “Your house burned down. Firefighters say it was arson, they think it was Marcus.”
My eyes widen and I get up and step outside as I process that my house and all of my possessions are gone, and there is no getting it back. I turn around as Steve grabs my shoulder, “It’s going to be okay.” I turn around and throw my hands up, “How!? How is it going to be okay!? He burned down my house! I lost EVERYTHING! I have NOTHING!”
He pulls me into his chest as I cry, “You have me, I’m not going anywhere.” I nod and hold onto him for dear life, “What do I do now?”
He pulls back and holds my arms, “We give him what he wants.”
“What?”
“We kill you, not really, but we have the news say that you died in the fire and you stay here until the trial.”
I nod my head, “That’s actually a good idea.”
He smiles and I bite my lip, “Can I kiss you? Because I really need you right now.”
He nods and pulls me into a kiss and I melt into him. I pull away and cuddle into his chest, “Don’t let me go.”
“I won’t.”
Danny’s POV
I watch as Y/N tears up and runs outside and I watch as Steve goes out and comforts her. I look at everyone around the table when he pulls her into a kiss and she automatically relaxes into him telling me that is definitely not their first kiss. I look at Tani knowing if anyone knew she would since her and Y/N are bffs now apparently and see she is as flabbergasted as I am.
Everyone at the table smiles as she cuddles further into his chest and he holds her a little tighter making it clear to me and probably everyone else seeing what I’m seeing is that Steve will do anything to protect her.
Y/N’s POV
I pull away from the hug still keeping my arms around his waist, “We should go back in, tell the team the plan.” He smiles and nods wiping a stray tear off my cheek before grabbing my hand and leading me inside.
When we sit back down I sit a lot closer to him than before and everyone looks at us. I take a sip of water as Steve tells them the plan and everyone agrees and then the heat turns to us, Lou being the first to speak, “The plan sounds great, now when did this happen?” He motions between us and Steve glares and I squeeze his hand that is intertwined with mine under the table before I answer, “Um, the day before yesterday.” Danny nods and Junior narrows his eyes, “A day after you met?” Steve nods and Danny smirks before Steve glares at him, “However if it wouldn’t have been for Danny it would have happened about ten minutes earlier.” Danny looked between us, “You mean to tell me you two decided to go out was while I was still there.”
I blush and look at Danny, “Yeah, when I got out of the shower.” Danny and Junior’s nose scrunches at the thought and Steve cuts in, “Relax you two it didn’t go any further than kissing, Y/N stopped when we remembered you two were downstairs.”
One Week Later
I pace around the house as Junior watches me, “Would you stop you’re making me dizzy.” I groan and look at the man who has become like a brother and complain, “I’m sorry Junes but I can’t take it anymore, he won’t even let me go swimming!” He stands up and grabs my arms and forces me to sit down, “He’s protecting you.” I sigh, “I know and I appreciate it but I just want to go outside.” Instead of Junior talking to me this time it’s a voice I’ve come to love, “And you will, in two days.” I turn around and whine, “Why not now?” He sighs probably getting tired of my whining, “Yes, I know you’re getting tired of staying at home but you’re supposed to be dead which means no one can see you until the trial on Friday.”
I grumble and sink down into Steve’s chair and watch as Junior grabs Eddie and makes a half ass excuse of going on run before disappearing. I pout and look at Steve and he squats down in front of me, “I know you’re getting cabin fever baby, but hold off, just for a couple of days.” I lean forward and cup his jaw, “I know and I’m sorry for complaining.” He smiles and nods, “It’s okay.”
I pull him up and into my lips before I break the kiss, “Since Junes is gone, wanna make tonight a date night?” He smirks and leans over me resting his hands on the arms of the chair before leaning down, “Mmm, I signed on for one date, this would make it three.” I wrap my arm around his neck, “Yeah, but the best part comes after the date.” He hums and chuckles as his lips meet mine yet again.
The Day of the Trial
I bite my nails as I sit in a conference room with Steve waiting on the prosecutor to come get me, “Steve, what if he gets away with it?” He looks to see the worry in my eyes and frowns, “He won’t. Don’t worry about anything other than testifying what you saw and watching his face when he sees he has no way out. It’ll make you feel powerful and proud knowing you are the one that put that scumbag behind bars.”
I nod and before I know it I’m being called to the stand, “For my next witness I would like to call Y/N Y/L/N to the stand.”
I rub my hands on my jeans before looking back at Steve and the rest of the team who give my nods and smiles before walking up to the stand. I glance at Marcus and smirk at the disbelief on his face, Steve was right this does feel fantastic.
“Ms. Y/L/N, could you tell the people of the jury what you saw on the afternoon of August 4th?”
I nod, “Yes sir, I went into an alley near my house and watched a man attack and kill another man with a knife.”
I glance at Marcus and smirk slightly at his deer in headlights look, even the best defense in the world couldn’t get him out of this one, “Did you see the face of the man who murdered the other man.”
I shake my head and hold my hands, “Not at first no, but after I saw the murder I ran and tripped which is what caught his attention. I tried to run away but he caught me and pinned me to the wall.”
“Ms. Y/L/N could you tell me who it was that you saw?”
I nod, “Yes, it was Marcus Young.”
“Ms. Y/L/N, what happened after that? How did you get away?”
I cleared my throat and sat up straighter, “After he had pinned me to the wall he held a knife to my chest but before he could do anything I screamed at the top of my lungs and kneed him in the balls…sorry I kneed him down south. He let go from the pain and I ran until I was in the HPD office.”
The court chuckled slightly at my statement before the prosecution hands me off for the defense to question, “Ms. Y/L/N, why were you in that alley way?”
“My cat, Mittens, had escaped earlier that day and I was looking for her as that is where she has hidden out before.”
She nods, “Is it not true that you lead the people of the public to believe that you had been killed?”
“Yes ma’am I did, but it was for my own safety that the 5-0 task force ran with the story when my house was burned to the ground, something that was proven to be arson.”
I can see in her eyes she knows her case is falling apart but she gets motioned over to the side by a man who had just came in. When she looks at me she has a small smirk on her face, “Ms. Y/L/N, is it true that you have a sexual relationship with Commander McGarrett?” My eyes widen and I look at Steve frantically, this was not something I was prepped for.
The prosecute jumps up, “You’re honor that has no relevance to this case!” The judge glances at the defense attorney and she defends, “It is possible that Ms. Y/L/N was sleeping with Commander McGarrett and was told about my clients failed cases in the past and made this whole narrative up after they found the body to help her boyfriend put him behind bars!”
That is not what happened miss bitch. The judge allows the defense continue and I choke on my spit as I nod, “Yes, I have a relationship with Commander McGarrett.”
She looks at me and smirks, “When did you meet Commander McGarrett?” I smirk as I realize that this bitch really thought I was sleeping with Steve before this, “I met him on August 4th, after I had come into the police department and given a statement. If you don’t believe me you can go through my phone records. I had only heard of Commander McGarrett until the day your client murdered a man in front of me and instead of taking the consequences like a man pinned me to a wall and tried to kill me. The fact you think I would throw a trial or even lie while under oath is highly offensive and no matter my feelings for Steve no man, and I mean no man could ever persuade me to do something as vile as what you are not only accusing me of but also accusing Commander McGarrett of, a man I may point out served this country for years and even after leaving the military still puts on a gun and shield to protect this island, even for those that don’t deserve it. So, to answer the question you really want to ask, no, Steve did not change my testimony by a single word.”
After I’m done I lean back in the chair with a satisfied smirk as the courtroom fell quiet.
After the trial I walk out into the hall to catch my breath while the jury comes to a verdict. Steve and the team come out and I look at him, “How the hell did she know about us?” Steve looks between all of us and shrugs, “I have no idea but it doesn’t matter, you handed her ass to her in there.” Lou nods, “Hell yeah you did, you ever think about being a lawyer, cause I’d sure as hell hire you to be my defense attorney.” I chuckle, “Nah, I’d rather be a stay at home cat and dog mom.”
We stand in the courtroom as the jury files in and the head jury member stands up, “We find the defendant….guilty in murder and attempted murder in the first degree as well as arson.”
I squeal and hug Steve as I watch Marcus get hauled out by the court guards.
After the Trial
I take a swig of beer as I watch Mittens swat at Eddie’s tail and look up when Steve sits beside me, “So, I was thinking,” I cut him off, “Oh no, that’s never good.” He glares at me playfully before wrapping his arm around my shoulders and pulling me closer, “Ha ha, but no seriously, how would you feel about staying with me and Eddie? Mittens loves it here, I think you do and you wouldn’t have to look for a new place.” I smile and look at him before laying my head on his shoulder, “Yeah, I like the sound of that.”

Incorrigible
You glanced up from your clipboard, abandoning your sketch of the team’s next pyramid formation at the sound of a small huff. Grace Williams dropped her custom drawstring cheer bag next to you, plopping down beside it.
“What’s up, monkey?” You tucked a strand of her pretty brown hair behind her ear, using the pet name you’d inadvertently picked up from spending so much time with her father. You had first met Danny at back-to-school night when Grace was in your seventh grade class. The two of you had bonded over your mutual love of his daughter, how intelligent and resilient she was and how she managed to stay positive despite ongoing changes in their family dynamic. As luck would have it, Grace happened to be in the cheer squad you volunteered to coach the following summer, and the three of you had been inseparable since.
“Danno and Uncle Steve are at Tripler again,” she grimaced, waiting for your reaction.
Your jaw tightened at the reference to the army medical center. Danny’s partner was a walking danger magnet, always getting him into life-threatening situations that you feared one day surgeries and stitches wouldn’t be sufficient to rectify.
The Navy SEAL was arrogant and headstrong, he refused to admit when he’d made a mistake, and he was the most gorgeous man you had ever laid eyes on.
You couldn’t stand Steve McGarrett.
Rolling your eyes but trying to mask your emotions- Grace loved her adoptive uncle and you didn’t want to mess with that- you stood and inclined your head toward the parking lot. “C’mon, we’ll wait for them at The Palace.”
Jumping up from her spot in the grass, Grace scurried to catch up with your long strides. “Can we-”
“Get Starbucks on the way?” you finished her question with a smile. She simply grinned in response, knowing you could never deny her when those sweet little dimples popped out and she turned those doe eyes up to level 10.
Over the past two years, you had come to love Grace as though she were your own daughter despite being just double her age now, at 30. Given the nature of her father’s work with Five-0, more often than not you were the one picking her up from school, spending evenings with her at Danny’s house at opposite ends of the kitchen table, Grace doing homework while you graded assignments. Unless she was at her mom and Stan’s, but that was another story.
You crawled your way along the drive-through, ordering a frap for the teen and coffees for yourself, Danny, and the nuisance Steve.
Taking a sip of your life-renewing cappuccino, you mentally tallied the number of hospital visits the two men had racked up this month alone, your annoyance with the SEAL growing with every mile on your odometer as you approached The Palace. By the time the glass doors opened revealing the partners in crime, you were charged up and raring for a fight.
“What did you do this time?” you demanded, staring McGarrett down, arms crossed and eyes narrowed.
“Why do you always assume I did something?” Steve asked, incredulous.
“It’s always you,” you, Danny, and Grace answered in unison, receiving an eye roll in response.
“Why do you insist on waiting here, huh?” he challenged you with that dumb smug face you swore he reserved just for you and interrogations. “Can’t you just drop Gracie here and get back to terrorizing local children?”
Your jaw dropped and his own twitched with mirth, having successfully gotten under your skin. “The only terror here is you, Steven.” His smirk quickly dropped into a frown. He hated when you called him Steven. “At least I don’t leave minors unattended in unsafe locations, unlike some people!”
“It was one time!” he defended himself, recalling the event that you were no doubt referencing. He had been helping Grace train for a marathon at her school and left her on the corner of his street to chase a car down on foot.
Granted it was his car, and it was being stolen, but still.
“And given that this place is literally teeming with cops, I think Gracie would be just fine here by herself for a bit.”
“One time is too many! And don’t act like you haven’t been attacked here or held hostage here before.” He opened his mouth to contradict you with some dumb excuse and you held a finger up, unwilling to hear it. “Also,” you flung your arm out to indicate the arsenal behind you, “a literal wall of very not safe weapons!”
“You know I wouldn’t touch that,” Grace offered gently, trying to calm you down.
Your heads snapped in her direction, both of you instructing, “You stay out of this!” She rolled her eyes in response, walking over to her dad to check out his newest stitches that would result in yet another cool scar.
“If you’re not going to be more careful yourself, at least don’t get Danny involved,” you demanded for the umpteenth time. “He’s always coming home with scrapes and scratches and the occasional GSW. I have to keep a suture kit in the guest bathroom because of you!”
Steve tried to hide the smile that came to his face at your use of the cop jargon, disguising his delight by swiping a hand over his face in feigned irritation. He would never in a million years say it out loud, but your mouth looked so pretty when you were mad, your anger usually directed at him. He couldn’t help but think about how pretty your mouth would look turned up in a smile, or kissing his own, or around his-
What were you talking about again? Sutures.
“It’s good practice,” he shrugged, standing with his legs spread wide and his arms crossed, a dominant stance that would’ve made your knees weak had you not been so rigid with pent up anger. “Keeps your fingers nimble. You’re welcome.”
“What is the matter with you?” you exclaimed, beyond exasperated. “Were you dropped on your head as a baby or something?” You were vaguely aware of Danny muttering Been saying that for years, but your attention was trained solely on Steve’s stupid crossed arms and the stupid way his stupid veins were bulging out of his stupid biceps.
“You,” he looked down at you with that goddamn smug face of his and you resisted the urge to kiss him punch him, “are annoying.”
“Yeah? Well, you- You’re incorrigible!”
“What, you think you’re gonna win cause you use big words? Oh great, yeah, gold star for Y/N."
“Don’t think about it too hard, your head might explode.”
“Don’t you have homework to grade?”
“Don’t you have municipal property to destroy?”
“Oh, get a room you two!” Grace yelled, fed up with your quibbling.
All three adults’ heads swiveled in her direction and her cheeks flushed.
“Why does my daughter, my sweet, innocent, perfect little monkey, know that phrase?” Danny turned his attention on you, head cocked in a challenge.
Grace made panicked eye contact with you because she definitely hadn’t learned it from marathoning Sex and the City with you. Definitely not.
“She’s fifteen, Danny,” you gently reminded your friend that despite his denial of her growing up, it was happening whether he liked it or not- and covering your own ass simultaneously. “Anyway, I should get going.”
You lovingly tweaked Grace’s nose and kissed Danny’s cheek in goodbye, slapping McGarrett’s arm as you passed by and holding back a gasp at the feeling of rock hard muscle beneath your fingertips.
“Yeah, you walk away!” he called out to your retreating form, and you could hear the infuriating smirk that was no doubt adorning his annoyingly handsome face.
Refusing to take the bait, you yelled, “I’ve got more important things to do than stand around arguing with you all day, Steven!”
Like angrily fantasizing about his muscles rippling beneath your hands as you-
Nope. Not going there.
_______
Hours later, you were seated on the floor of your apartment in front of your couch, trying and failing to focus on the stack of papers before you. You couldn’t stop thinking about the way Steve’s eyes would light up when you hurled a clever insult at him or ignore the fact that your fingertips still felt like they were on fire from touching his bare skin.
Fucking hormones.
You debated texting your best friend, but what would you even say? Hey Danno, I don’t hate Steve, I’ve just actually got the hots for him didn’t seem to cut it.
Another hour and a glass of wine later, you decided you couldn’t take it anymore, snatching up your keys and driving over to his house before the logical part of your brain could stop you. Mustering up your resolve with a nod of your head, you made the short trek up his driveway to the front door, then promptly turned right around. What the fuck were you thinking?
As you stepped off the porch, you heard a soft creaking and Steve’s low voice. “Y/N?”
You swore your name had never sounded more beautiful.
You turned back around sheepishly and gasped at the sight before you. Steve stood barefoot in his doorway clad in an old Navy tank and basketball shorts, a thick white bandage on his left shoulder. “You’re hurt,” you pointed out rather brilliantly.
“This is nothing.” He shrugged it off as if a bullet wound was a mere paper cut and you felt your heart twinge, realizing how much pain and brutality he must have seen during his service.
“But you got shot today, Steve,” you said more forcefully. And all I did was yell at you about Danny being hurt.
Taking a swig from the beer in his dominant hand, he nodded with a laugh, “It would appear so.”
Hearing him laugh at your concern, your guard went back up and you turned around quickly, muttering, “This was a mistake.”
“Hey!” He caught up with you in seconds flat, his large hand curling around your arm and turning you back to him. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have laughed. This kind of stuff isn’t normal for you.”
His face softened at the worry in your eyes, breath catching in his throat as you lifted your hand to gently run your thumb over the gauze. “I wish it wasn’t normal for you either. Or Danny,” you added quickly, pulling back your hand as if you’d been burned for the second time today. You suddenly felt lightheaded at the sheer closeness of his body and his intoxicating smell muddling your senses. “I should-” You pointed your thumb over your shoulder. “I’m gonna go.”
“Y/N,” he stopped you again, this time grabbing your hand. The corner of his mouth quirked up in a smile and he inclined his head toward his house. “Wanna come in? We can have a beer, talk at a normal volume for once.”
The intensity of his gaze, those beautiful ocean blue eyes trained on you, stole your breath away. “Yeah,” you nodded. “Yeah, that sounds nice.”
The next morning, Danny stopped by Steve’s house after dropping Grace off at school as he did every day, stooping down on the porch to scoop up the little brown box sitting there. Making his way through the living room to the kitchen, he called out, “Hey babe, brought you a pack…age,” his voice trailing off as he noticed a very familiar figure standing at the stove wearing a blue Navy shirt emblazoned across the shoulder blades with McGarrett- and little else.
“You brought me something?” Steve moved forward to retrieve the box, squinting at the scrawled handwriting across the top.
“No, it’s from the UPS fairy. What is this?” Danny asked, accusatory finger darting back and forth between the two of you.
“Took your daughter's advice,” you shrugged simply, smiling to yourself and turning back to salt your scrambled eggs. “She’s a smart girl- hey!” You smacked Steve’s hand away with the spatula after he snuck a morsel of your yet unfinished eggs.
“What’s the matter with you?” he asked indignantly, face drawing into a familiar frown. “You spend the night here one time and suddenly you’re the boss of my kitchen, huh?”
“You can’t wait two more minutes? You’ve got the self control of a seven year old child!”
“I just wanted a taste. Wanted to see if it’s worth keeping you around,” he smirked, and your eyebrows shot up.
“Oh ho ho,” you chuckled, narrowing your eyes at him. “You want a taste? I’ll give you a taste, McGarrett, you insufferable-”
Danny reached behind him to pull the front door closed with a sigh. Some things never changed.

h50 straight dude bro writers: lol let’s make these dudes clash. like they’re both capable but in VASTLY different ways that’ll be entertaining.
Narrator: It would be entertaining, but hardly what they dared to imagine at all. For they did not foresee how their decision to make Daniel “Danno” Williams a walking war zone was THE perfect chance encounter for the hardened, decorated, Navy SEAL that is Steven Jack McGarrett. The island that Steven is forced to return to is known as ‘Paradise’, but to him it only holds distant memories to a version of himself that felt has died eons ago. Despite being born and somewhat raised on the islands, they didn’t feel like home. With all he’s been through and then trained for, peace and paradise wasn’t fit for him. And even if much of him has died or been killed...there is still part of him that hopes. That dreams. That yearns.
Enter Danny Williams. His Danno. Raging, unapologetic, sincere, real, genuine, unafraid....and different to the island. Despite he himself being known and remembered...he’s different too. They’re different together. With Danny’s rage and hatred being a warzone Steve’s comfortable with because that’s been home longer than the islands.
When you think of finding your soul mate, many picture a Hallmark like moment. Sweet, commercial valentine definition of love, something that can be plastered on the front of a romance novel.
But that wasn’t the case for these two. Did they clash? Or was it an impact a long time coming from the universe moving specific pieces at certain times to make this happen? Was it that destined? Or were they an apology from the universe and grand scheme of things for all that they had to trudge through to make the world a better place, a gift from the heavens...maybe not exactly what they thought they wanted, but precisely that the other needed?
Helping Danny through the war that raged inside of him with all the change he had to adapt to as a soldier was exactly what Steve’s good at. Helping Steve keep grounded and feel like just a regular human and like he belonged among men and not just on top of a lonely pedestal, whose worries, concerns, thoughts and feelings..were valid(if not sometimes a little eccentric).
Their true selves were always hidden to some extent. They thought who they really were, were too much for anyone to handle. They wanted to be more than the shadow cast by a family they felt rejected by but couldn’t seem ungrateful for.
They have vastly different life experiences. They’re both recognized in their work and high ranked.
To each other, they are simply and unapologetically, Steve and Danny.

📓
You know how I said I didn't think there was anything to a death industry au? I've been thinking about it a lot, and there is something there. Most of this has been in my drafts for a couple days, while I think thinky thoughts on it. Just gotta take it out of the admin side, to make it more generally interesting tbh. Because what I do is actually pretty boring unless you've got strong administrative opinions.
~
Danny as a licensed embalmer/mortician/whatever (idk how it works in Hawai’i or Jersey) that works at a family owned joint. The pay is pretty good and the hours are flexible, because they don’t care when he works as long as the decedent is ready to go in time for services.
He doesn't generally meet with families. Unless someone has specifically requested to dress their loved one. Then he does help people out with that, because putting clothes on dead (ha) weight can actually be very difficult if you don't know what you're doing.
(Steve has no idea, but Danny is actually the guy that prepped John McGarrett for burial. It was closed casket, short graveside service, so no embalming necessary. But Danny was still the one who made sure that John was in uniform, with all requisite medals and ribbons in the correct place, before he went to the cemetery.)
Danny knows Max because every once and a while he picks up a deceased after the medical examiner is finished w/ the autopsy or whatever. They have a lot of Professional Respect for each other, from being on different sides of the Works With Dead Bodies Industry.
(“Dr. Bergman, why is it whenever I pickup a case from you, it’s always the worst? Look at this guy. The family wants open casket, and I’m gonna have to pull a miracle out of my ass.”
The body in question is at the marbling stage of decomp, and smells like it. The cosmetizing Danny’s gonna have to do to make the guy normal colored is astronomical. That’s not even getting into the state of the head. The spouse is gonna have to provide a hat for sure. He hopes the director can talk her into closing the casket for services.
“He was shot in the temple Mr. Williams. Besides, you’ll be able to manage that.”
“...Yeah. Probably,” Because Danny is Very Good at what he does, and the guy isn’t actually the absolute worst he’s ever seen. There's not even any insect activity, which is shocking.)
Anyways, one day Danny comes into work and there’s a body in his fridge that was not there yesterday when he left. He knows who he’s supposed to have in his care, and this person? Not one of them. When he gets a closer look, there’s a huge gaping wound in the chest and oh shit. Okay. Yeah. Fuck, he’s gotta call 911.
Anyways, Five-0 gets called in, because a dead body appeared over night in a locked room with no sign of break in.
(“Mr. Williams, it’s interesting to see you at your place of work, instead of my own.”
“Yeah. I gotta be honest, I don’t think I like it Dr. Bergman.”)
Danny’s in scrubs and PPE, and he smells like chemicals and death, and it’s tragic because that Commander is uh. Nice to look at. Danny’s seen him a few times in passing, when he’s been by the medical examiners to do a removal. If he didn't look like a horror movie, Danny would be tempted to flirt. Don't get him wrong, he still does, but he's not as blatant about it as he would be if they bumped into each other at a bar or something.
Anyways, what happens from there is just, the weirdest slowest courtship imaginable. Because now it seems almost every time Danny comes by to pick someone up, Commander McGarrett is there. And they exchange hellos and small talk. And it’s a coincidence, it’s gotta be.
Steve meanwhile has been flirting with the idea of uh. Letting those Gay Thoughts catch up with him, since he's gone to the reserves. Mr. Williams is attractive, with a fire cracker personality and Steve's just. Curious. You know. Wants to get to know him. But Steve's also never navigated the awkward terrain of trying to find out if a man is into other men. So Steve mostly just 'happens' to be at the medical examiners during the pickup window for funeral homes to come by.
Also Danny's trans. Just assume he's trans unless stated otherwise, in anything I write. I've decided that's a hill I'm gonna die on.

short description: steve, danny, grace and charlie travel to new jersey, and visits the williams family.

keep in mind this is not beta read, written at all times of day and contains stupid amount of fluff!
Tumblr media
Steve was used to the snow. Naturally he was – the man was a fucking Navy SEAL, he had probably spent three years of his life living in a snow cave he had dug out himself in Alaska during his training. Alright, maybe that was taking it a bit too far – but still, the point comes across nonetheless. You see, the ever-so-versatile Steve McGarrett didn’t even flinch when Danny said they’d be heading to the mainland during the worst snow season in New Jersey. Hadn’t he known better, Danny would probably say Steve looked a little excited about the fact, and Danny wasn’t going to lie; he was more than just a little excited about watching Steve and Charlie spend hours in the snow. Just the idea of bringing Steve to New Jersey had Danny excited, a new kind of excited that he hadn’t felt before.
He had been in Hawaii for Thanksgiving, working on the perfect dinner for the team with Steve, though it had all been disrupted when a call with a bomb threat came in, and they had instead spent the evening tending to cuts and bruises, mending each other’s hurt with whisky and kisses instead of a team dinner and celebrations. Christmas had, for some reason, been split between him and Rachel; he had the kids for the first few days, while Rachel had taken them to England for New Years. Steve – God bless him – had noticed that Danny was uneasy with the thought of only having a few days with the children over the holiday, and had put in his absolute best effort to make Christmas the best holiday ever. In hindsight, Danny had come to realise it was the best holiday ever, but that had nothing to do with the eccentric reindeer-costume that had been forced onto Eddie, or the way Steve had somehow managed to cram together an entire holiday into the span of three days. It had been the best holiday because Danny had his people with him; Steve, Grace and Charlie (and Eddie – he could never forget Eddie).
Now, however, as he was sprawled across their bed – their shared bed – he found himself simply watching as Steve packed, fascinated with the way he brought an op-like precision into everything he did. Eddie was slumbering at the foot of the bed, his head resting heavily against Danny’s ankle, seeming to be aware of how his human family were preparing themselves for a vacation he wouldn’t be going with them on. “Are you going to make running commentary, or are you just going to stare?” Steve chuckled, voice laced with amusement as he turned, shoving one final item of clothing into his bag.
“I’m just curious to see whether you’ve packed for a Jersey winter, or if you’ve packed for – you know,” he gestured vaguely around, making it clear to himself that he meant the stupidly warm Hawaiian winter. “Your favoured winter, where you could wear shorts every day.”
Steve grinned widely, fingertips brushing against Danny’s calf as he gave Eddie’s head a couple of pats. “I’ve been to the mainland during winter before, you know. Seems you keep forgetting the years I spent in the Navy.” He turned towards the doorway as Charlie appeared, clad in his superhero pyjamas with a wide grin on his lips. “Hey, buddy, are you ready for bed? Did you pack your backpack with the things you want to bring for our trip?” Steve’s voice grew softer as he spoke with the young boy, who in return climbed onto the bed to have better reach as he clung to Steve like a koala.
“I packed my coolest action figures, so I can show grandpa.” Charlie nodded against Steve’s chest, furrowing his brow at the rumbling in the larger body as Steve responded with a chuckle.
“Alright, well, we should get you to sleep then. Me or Danno?” Steve raised an eyebrow, as if the answer wasn’t clear enough to him with how Charlie had done his best to wrap himself around Steve, though the poking at Steve’s ribs caused the wide grin to return. “Roger that. How about you say good night to Danno, and meet me in your room?”
It caused Danny’s heart to skip a beat, the way he said it. Not long after they had admitted their feelings for one another, somehow hastily over yet another this could be the end of the world situation, Steve had made it clear that he wouldn’t want it any other way. His old room had been redecorated to meet Charlie’s standards, an odd combination of race cars, superheroes and cowboys, and Mary’s old room had been turned into a room suited for Grace, making sure she always had a place to stay whenever she decided to make her way back to Hawaii – back home – from college. In many ways, it had been the simplest yet most perfect admission from Steve that he didn’t just want Danny, he wanted it all – he wanted school mornings, homework, little league games, pancake mornings and all the messes that came with living with a child. Steve, who had never been foreign to the idea of having children, but had struggled to find the needed balance between his work and personal life, and when he in turn had been diagnosed with radiation poisoning (and, he hadn’t specifically told Danny, but the detective was well aware that if the radiation itself hadn’t made him completely infertile, there was a high chance he would never be able to have children of his own), it had seemed like the perfect time for him to commit, fully and wholly, to Danny and his children.
Danny was pulled out of his thoughts as Charlie flopped against the mattress next to him, giggling like a mad-man as he snuggled closer. “Can you promise me that when Steve comes to wake you up in the morning, you will get up right away?” Danny huffed, arms wrapped tightly around Charlie, which made it difficult for him to jump up and salute his father with a Yessir, yes!, something he had picked up from the Navy SEAL, without a doubt. “Sleep tight, buddy, I love you.”
“Love you too, Danno.” Charlie replied, words muffled against the fabric covering Danny’s chest, before squirming his way out of the warm embrace. He could hear Steve’s chuckles from the room down the hall, followed by the low sound of his voice as he started telling a bedtime story, and based on the sound-effects – it could very well be a (hopefully) children’s appropriate version of some case they had worked (not that Danny hadn’t done the same; his mild and children’s friendly Christmas-story, which portrayed Steve as the hero who saved the holidays, had become a favourite of Charlie’s).
It wasn’t until Eddie started moving, stretching with a wide, whiny yawn, that Danny too decided he should get moving, following the dog downstairs to let him out back. Grace was on the couch, watching some ridiculous reality programme, the kind of show that Danny would never in a million years allow himself to be caught watching, yet he sunk into the couch next to his teenage daughter once Eddie was back inside.
“If you’re going to sit here, I’m not giving you a run-down of what’s happened.” Grace rolled her eyes, patting Eddie as he pressed his snout against her thigh, before wandering off to his preferred spot by Steve’s desk, curling as best he could against the rug.
“That’s fine.” Danny shrugged, kicking his feet up on the coffee table, eyebrows furrowing as he tried to wrap his head around the overly dramatic argument that was unfurling on the screen in front of him. However, as Grace yawned, he let his attempt of understanding go, and turned towards her instead. “You know, we’ll be getting up quite early tomorrow, probably wouldn’t be a bad idea if you headed to bed now. If you’ve packed everything you need for a few days in Jersey, that is.” Danny chuckled, knowing his daughter had his not-so-fortunate skills when it came to packing, and he was already dreading the time he would spend in the bedroom as he packed, Steve hovering over him and commenting on whatever he thought needed a comment.
“I think I’ll take you up on that offer, if it means I’ll escape you and your thoughts.” Grace grinned wickedly, pressing a kiss to her father’s cheek with a muffled good night, and vanishing upstairs.
Steve appeared shortly after, leaning against the railing of the staircase, a chuckle escaping his lips. “See, I’d come over and join you, but I know for a fact that you haven’t packed, and I’m not about to have you grumpy-packing at four am.” Taking the last few steps down, he ensured the front door was locked, and headed to the kitchen to refill Eddie’s bowl of water for the night, before returning to the living room. “Let’s go get you packed and ready, and then I’m going to turn in for the night. If I’m to deal with you and Grace at that hour in the morning, God knows I’m in need of a good night’s sleep.” He rolled his eyes, calling Eddie after him as he turned back to the stairs, Danny turning off the TV and the lights as he followed suit.
Danny was convinced, by the end of his packing, that he had not at all packed everything he needed, but at the same time, he was convinced Steve hadn’t packed what he needed to survive the Jersey snow, so maybe he didn’t stress too much about having to possibly go to the mall during their stay. Zipping his bag closed, he was about to head for the shower when Steve wrapped a strong arm around him, tugging him to the bed instead. “Steve, I should really-,”
“Save the shower for when we wake up, please.” Steve murmured sleepily against the side of his head, his stubbled chin giving Danny’s cheek a bristly nuzzle as they settled underneath the sheets of the bed. “You’ll wake up more if you shower in the morning.” He tried once more to squirm out of Steve’s embrace, but unlike the hold he had kept on Charlie earlier, Steve was adamant about keeping the detective right there, in bed. “Turn your brain off, Daniel, and sleep, please.” Steve huffed, pressing his lips to Danny’s ear, and by some miracle, Danny fell asleep.
As predicted, he was grumpy when the alarm clock rang at 3 am, their (correction: Steve’s) clock being set an hour before the kids’, so the Navy SEAL had the time to go for his morning swim, a jog with Eddie, and to take a shower before he tended to Charlie and Grace. The thing was, even though Steve pressed gentle kisses to his head, attempting to soothe him back to sleep, Danny wasn’t able to, and found himself ambling down to the kitchen, where he made coffee – one for himself, perfectly balanced between the far-too-strong coffee and milk, and one for Steve, with the spoonful of grass-fed butter that he for some reason had to have a cup of in the morning.
Charlie was, like predicted, awake and happy long before anyone had the chance to wake him, and Grace was a lot more like her father; tired and grumpy. However, even ten minutes before Danny had planned, they were bunched together in the car, on their way to drop Eddie off at Tani’s (Danny had to remind Steve that they needed to return the favour in some grand gesture as they returned from Jersey, after all she had voluntarily gotten up early to greet them and make sure Eddie settled in at her place before work). The next few hours were more of a haze, sleepily making their way through security, making sure all four of them ate breakfast, and the flight itself was spent huddling together and sleeping (for Danny and Steve), watching a movie (for Charlie, who had wrapped himself in a blanket on Steve’s lap, watching a cartoon on the in-seat screen, until he fell asleep during the last hour of the flight), and texting friends (for Grace).
The first thing they noticed as they reached Newark, was the chillier temperature, and Danny’s shivering told him he had gotten a lot more used to the Hawaiian warmth than he would like to admit. He was hanging back and for some reason just watching as Steve loaded their luggage into the rental car, before helping a sleepy Charlie into the vehicle, he felt like the luckiest man alive. Grace was leaning against his side, head against his shoulder as they watched Steve, and for some odd reason, it all felt like a full circle kind of moment. He wasn’t sure he would even be here right now, at the Newark Airport, with his two children and Steve, about to get into a rental car as they would be heading to Danny’s family.
Almost as if she knew something was going on inside his head, Grace turned slightly, poking and prodding at Danny’s ribs, her jabs a lot harder than they would have to be back in Hawaii, as they now had to push through his down jacket. “Just marry him already, will you?” She groaned, timing it almost perfectly to the moment when Steve turned, leaning slightly back against the car with that ridiculous and goofy grin spread on his lips (the grin that Danny absolutely loved, and had come to realise was a grin reserved for him and the kids only). “He’s been used as a pillow by Charlie, and has been carrying around halfway sleeping and drooling Charlie since we got off the plane. Do you really need an eccentric kind of proposal or whatever after that?”
She didn’t give him the chance to answer, though, pushing away from him as she headed for the car. Chuckling, Danny gathered his energy and followed her, though instead of getting into the car, he wrapped himself around Steve’s torso, fingers in the belt loops of his jeans and head against his chest as he hummed contentedly. The smooth surface of the Navy SEAL’s down jacket was cold to touch, and in a weird way it jolted Danny’s energy levels a little, waking him up in time to notice that Steve was pressing the car keys into his hands. “Wait, you don’t want to-,”
“This is your home-turf, Danny.” Steve grinned, patting gently against Danny’s hands, which were now wrapped around the cold metal of the keys. “If you wish for me to give off the gentleman impression for your parents, however, we can pull over and swap places as we near their house.”
“If we’re going to do that, we might as well also put you in a jacket where the shoulder isn’t stained with Charlie’s drool.” Danny rolled his eyes, not failing to notice how the grin on Steve’s lips widened even more. Lowering his head slightly, Steve pressed a kiss to the corner of Danny’s mouth, warm breath ghosting over his lips, before moving himself out from his spot between Danny and the car. There was undoubtedly something odd about seeing Steve, the man who claimed to get motion sickness whenever he didn’t sit behind the wheel himself, get into the passenger seat – but maybe it was just Steve’s way of telling Danny that he trusted him with his heart, body and soul (and health).
He was about to open the door to the driver’s seat when his phone buzzed, presumably with another text message from his mother, and quite like the last 47 messages he had received from her, this was laced with worry about how to make sure the house was properly prepared to greet Steve. At this point he was sure that if he told them Steve needed a full home gym to work out, they would have torn out everything in the basement and made just that for him. This one, however, was from Bridget, telling him that she hoped they were prepared for snow, because they sure as hell had chosen to visit New Jersey right around the time for the craziest snow fall of the year.
With fingers going numb from the cold, he ducked into the car, delighted to see that Steve had managed to wake Charlie, well aware it would be hopeless to put the boy down to sleep when it was bedtime if his nap continued long into the afternoon. However, Danny was surprised to see that, in order to keep Charlie awake, Steve had willingly given up his phone, sheepishly grinning at Danny as he realised the device had several of Charlie’s favoured games downloaded, making him just a little too well prepared for moments like this. “I know you kids were hoping to get a few things done over our days here, but I want you all to be aware that the forecast says it’s going to snow – a lot.” Danny turned, glancing between his kids, though seeing none of them were paying attention – Charlie in the middle of a very important round of what appeared to be Angry Birds, and Grace had her headphones tucked neatly over her ears, scrolling mindlessly on her phone. “Alright, lively audience we have in the back here.”
Steve chuckled, shifting slightly in his seat. “They’re tired, Danny. So are you, so am I. We’ve been awake since far too early, and we still have a few more hours until it’s reasonable for us to succumb to our tiredness.” He shrugged slightly, reaching across to place a hand on Danny’s thigh, giving it a light squeeze, just like he would do whenever he was behind the steering wheel. “Now, I don’t know if this whole place holds something of a meaningful memory for you, but I’m sure there are other parts of Jersey you’d rather show me than the airport, right?”
His tone was teasing, and his touch was warm, and alright, Danny found himself agreeing, because the neighbourhood where he grew up was a whole lot nicer than the Newark Airport, and with the rate of his mother’s preparations, he should probably make sure they got to the comfort of Danny’s childhood home. The drive seemed longer than Danny could remember, and it could be because he had Steve in the passenger seat, the Navy SEAL being completely quiet, though Danny could tell he had entered the same type of focus he did when they were on a stakeout, possibly to make sure he didn’t fall asleep. Danny found his hand, still resting against his thigh, and tangled their fingers together, giving the larger hand a gentle squeeze.
Steve grinned at that, and though it wasn’t the most practical considering Danny was driving (he was grateful that Steve had rented a car with automatic transmission), their hands remained linked until Danny pulled onto the street where his parents were residing. Even then, it wasn’t he who pulled away from the touch, as much as it was Steve, who turned slightly in his seat to make sure the kids in the back were awake, Charlie returning the mobile device to his hand with a muffled statement that he should probably charge it. “You’ve really done it now, babe – letting him know you’ve got those games on there.”
“I don’t mind.” Steve shrugged, pocketing his phone as Danny pulled into the driveway, parking the rental car behind his dad’s sedan.
There was a thin layer of snow on the ground, maybe a warning sign of what was to come, though Danny only revelled in the sound of snow, gravel and ice crunching underneath his boots as he got out of the car. Based on Steve’s expression, it wasn’t a sound he had heard in a very long time, an expression that in turn had Danny stifling a laugh. “If this amuses you, I should only hope we get a proper snowfall tomorrow. Charlie won’t let you be inside for one second, I know that much.” He grinned, moving around the car to retrieve their luggage from the trunk as Grace made her way to the front door, and Steve got Charlie out of the car.
With one arm supporting Charlie, who clung to Steve like his life depended on it (he had taken to doing that with Steve, and it didn’t seem like either one of them minded – Danny knew he certainly didn’t mind), Steve cheekily snuck an arm around Danny’s torso, covering his move as he picked a bag from the trunk and placed a kiss to his cheek. “Maybe I don’t mind being outside with Charlie all day, have you thought about that?”
No, he hadn’t – but then again, Danny shouldn’t be surprised about the thought either. Steve, though being an adult, nearing his 42nd birthday, was a lot like a child, and without psychoanalysing him, Danny was well aware that the answer for it all laid somewhere between his mother not being the most present, before she faked her death and his father had shipped him off to the mainland. Catching his breath, he found himself hanging back for a second as he watched Steve approach Clara and Eddie at the porch, easing Charlie into his grandma’s arms as the Navy SEAL himself was greeted with a hug and kiss on the cheek from Clara, and a firm handshake accompanied with a slap on the back from Eddie.
“Danny, will you be joining us today, or do you have other plans?” Clara called, arms wrapped tightly around the growing boy in her embrace, Eddie well into leading Steve inside, probably already chattering away about something only Steve could keep up with.
“Take my son inside, will you? I’d prefer it if he didn’t get pneumonia because you keep him out here.” Danny rolled his eyes as he reached the porch, though his expression mellowed as Clara tugged him closer, and had him wrap his arms around them both, a move that caused Charlie to squirm. “I’ve missed you, ma.”
“I’ve missed you too, Danny.” Clara hummed into their hug, pushing her son in front as they all headed inside. Grace had vanished, presumably to set up shop in a room that had previously belonged to one of Danny’s sisters. Steve had reached the living room, already engaged in listening to one of Eddie’s long monologues about the gratitude he had for men like Steve, who had served the country. “I was thinking maybe we could have lasagna for dinner, if you would want to help me?”
“Of course.” Danny chuckled, looking down at Charlie’s bag which stood at his feet. “Where do you want us?”
“I’ve got your old room for you, Matt’s old room for Charlie. I think Gracie ended up staying in Bridget’s old room, but that means Stella’s room is free if you, you know…” Clara trailed off, nodding slightly in the direction of Steve, and Danny couldn’t help but grin widely – it was sweet really, that she had made sure there was a way out of sharing a bed with Steve if Danny didn’t want to. Not that they would need to use that way out, of course. “I didn’t want to assume anything.”
“It’s alright, ma. We’ll share my old room.” Danny was still grinning as he toed off his shoes and shrugged off his jacket, not failing to pick up on his mother’s about damn time, before approaching his dad. “Dad, please give him time to breathe, yeah?” He rolled his eyes slightly at Eddie’s wide grin, though returned the hug when the older Williams-man wrapped his arms tightly around his shoulders. “He didn’t fly for ten hours so that you could be his biggest fanboy.”
Steve grinned sheepishly, lifting a hand to scratch at the back of his neck. “It’s alright, Danny-,” he shrugged slightly, though his grin softened as Charlie came running, backpack in hand as he wanted to show his grandpa the latest additions to his group of action figures. It didn’t take a lot more for Eddie to almost seem as if he had forgotten Steve and his years of service, instead turning to the couch with his grandson. In turn, Steve turned fully to Danny, the smile still having the corners of his mouth turned upwards. “Besides, he was just promising me that he’d get around to telling me all the stories of how your former colleagues in the Jersey police had their fun with you while you were the boot of the squad.”
Once again, Danny rolled his eyes, shifting his grip on Charlie’s bag, only then realising Steve was carrying both of theirs. “Might as well just take you down to the precinct, and you can get the stories from those responsible for it.” He brushed past Steve, though didn’t get far before he turned, making sure the Navy SEAL was following him – and was caught by surprise as Steve bumped into him, huffing out a sharp breath of air at the contact.
“You shouldn’t just abruptly stop walking.”
Rolling his eyes (again), Danny continued walking, leading Steve down the hallway he had lots of fond childhood memories from – playing tag with Matt on summer days, where the whole house and the backyard was used as their personal running track, Bridget and Stella making creative obstacles as Danny would impress them with his skills of driving a remote controlled car (at least he thought they were impressed, but then again, with pre-teen girls he could never be a 100% sure). Steve stopped in his tracks at the door frame to Danny’s room, a goofy grin spreading on his lips as he placed his index finger to the height measurement that was last added, and that coincidentally also happened to be the very same height Danny still stood at. “You stopped growing at sixteen?”
“Shut up.” Danny huffed, furrowing his brows as he crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m sure you did too.”
“No, I shot up nearly four inches the summer after I turned nineteen.” Steve shrugged casually, stepping after Danny into the bedroom. It wasn’t anything of an impressive size, but it was cosy, and it soothed a part of Danny’s soul he hadn’t realised was acting up or being stressed. “Nice touch with the baseball-themed pillow cases.” The Navy SEAL stifled a chuckle as Danny’s cheeks flushed pink. “I won’t make fun of it, Danny, I promise, it’s just … I didn’t really have all of these things, you know? We’ve already established how different our childhoods were from each other.”
Danny sighed a little, dropping Charlie’s bag to the floor, before wrapping himself around Steve’s torso – only this time, neither one of them had thick jackets to restrict their body heats from mixing. “If it becomes too overwhelming, or you need an out, you let me know. I have plenty of places we could go, and I’m sure my parents wouldn’t mind looking out for the kids if you need a breather.”
“I’ll be fine.” Steve chuckled, bags dropped to the floor as his arms came around Danny, holding him close to his body. “Besides, with the snowfall I heard was coming, I don’t think it’s wise of us to go anywhere else – other than out in the snow with Charlie, that is.”
He had half expected Danny to squirm in his embrace, wanting to head back down to his kids and his parents, but he remained firmly wrapped around Steve’s torso, relishing in the possibility of hugging without disturbances. However, as he did shimmy his way out of Steve’s embrace, with a large yawn, it was with a promise of a calm night in, and a chance of turning into bed early. While Danny made his way to the kitchen, adamant to kick his mother out of the room as he took full responsibility for dinner, Steve found himself back in the Williams’ living room, where Grace was on the phone with her niece (Steve assumed), and Charlie was still eagerly explaining the stories behind all of his action figures, some older ones, presumably ones that had belonged to Danny and Matt when they were kids, had been added to the mix as well.
“Who made the first move?” Clara asked after quite a while, having come to sit in the recliner after Danny successfully chased her out of the kitchen, her head tilted slightly as she studied Steve with that same look Danny got on his face whenever he would look at him. “If you don’t mind me asking, of course.”
“I, uh-,” Steve cleared his throat a little, eyebrows furrowing as he tried to think – because which one of them had made the first move? His trail of thoughts were cut off, however, as Charlie came crashing down on him, having long ago perfected the puppy eyes as he now was well aware of the games downloaded to Steve’s phone. “Buddy, not now, eh? It needs to be charged, and you’ve got your grandparents right here.” He ruffled the boy’s hair, half expecting him to return to his grandfather’s side, though was pleasantly surprised when Charlie settled in his lap with a couple of action figures in his hands. “I don’t quite remember, I think, who made the first move. After all these years, and everything we’ve been through, I think we just both kind of fell into it.”
Clara didn’t respond right away, her eyes filling with admiration as she took in the sight of Steve and Charlie, her husband seeming to agree with her unspoken words as he quietly tidied together the toys on the couch. “He loves you.” She spoke after a while, nodding at Charlie, who was far too distracted with the mid-air explosions that apparently were happening right there in the living room. “Well, I think both the boys do, as well as Grace, but from what Danny’s told me, and from what I’ve seen in the short time since you arrived, he’s only like that with you.”
In those few seconds it had taken her to say those words, Steve’s throat had seemed to close up, and he found himself saved by the bell - or Danny - as the detective emerged, shoo-ing everyone to the table to get ready for dinner, requesting for Steve to help him gather the food from the kitchen. It was a nice, simple dinner, done just like Danny had done it time and time again in their kitchen back in Hawaii; a simple lasagna with garlic bread and a salad, and just like when they ate it back home, it was the kids’ (and Steve’s, though don’t tell that to Danny, he would never stop gloating) favourite dish. It was an easy kind of setting, the kind of setting Steve hadn’t experienced a lot with his own family as a kid – the kind of setting that eased the weight of Clara’s words. He figured it must be something about the setting, or maybe the house (or maybe it was the New Jersey air?), but he found Clara to be a lot less in his face than she had been when she came to visit Danny in Hawaii.
The rest of the evening was spent the same way; Steve helped Danny clear the table, enveloping himself around the shorter detective while they did the dishes, before they joined the rest of the family in the living room. This time it was Grace who chatted away, eagerly telling her grandparents about her quest to find the perfect college, and if Danny thought no one caught his grimace at the thought of his daughter growing up, he would have to think again. Charlie had managed to come down from his post-dinner-energy-high, and found himself crashing in Steve’s lap again, sock-clad feet kicked up in Danny’s lap – to at least have some sort of contact with his father as well.
“We should come visit you all in Hawaii soon.” Eddie suggested, immediately having his wife’s eager nodding as a support of his words. “I mean, I haven’t been in a few years, and from what I recall, it’s a wonderful place all year round. Besides, Danny’s mentioned you have a pretty Merc in your garage, Steve?”
Steve flashed a crooked grin. “Yessir. It was my dad’s originally. We would work on it together when I was a kid, and after he passed, I took it upon myself to get her back on the road. It’s been with mixed success, but she’s more or less up and running now.”
“No need to call me sir, Steve.” Eddie chuckled. “You’re family, that means I’m Eddie to you.”
At this, Charlie lit up. “Eddie as in our dog?”
Steve grinned, picking up on the soft chuckle that passed Danny’s lips from beside him. “Almost, buddy.” Danny placed a palm against Charlie’s leg. “Maybe we have to figure out a new nickname-solution there if grandma and grandpa comes to visit?” He suggested further, the eager nodding from his son telling him he had already started the search for a nickname suited for the golden-coloured Labrador back on Oahu.
“So, you have a dog now and everything?” Clara raised her eyebrows, seemingly surprised at the admission of their canine friend. “I thought I could quite vividly remember that you wouldn’t be interested in getting another pet unless you were married, Danny.”
Danny stilled at his mother’s comment, a comment that had also whipped Grace’s attention into action, the teenager staring wide-eyed at her father from the recliner next to Clara. “Actually, Eddie and I were kind of a package deal.” Steve cleared his throat, pressing his elbow gently against Danny’s arm, a weak attempt at grounding him, soothing his nerves. “I was supposed to be a temporary home for Eddie, but he and I have a special bond, and I couldn’t let him leave. So, Danny brought his two kids walking on two legs into the relationship, and I guess you could say I brought my four-legged kid.” If Clara didn’t seem convinced, she had done a good job at schooling her expression, but at his side, Danny had resumed breathing normally, and that was a lot more important to Steve than having to explain any further on why he ended up adopting a dog who had previously worked with the Marines and the DEA.
They sat a while longer, conversation easing into something everyone could participate in, until Charlie started stifling yawns against Steve’s shirt, the Navy SEAL chuckling as he shifted the way his arms were wrapped around him. “Maybe we should get you ready for bed, huh? You’ve got to rest up if all this snow is coming, I’m gonna need you to teach me how to build a snowman.”
“We should let you all turn in for the night.” Eddie was quick to speak, sending his son a short, acknowledging nod as Danny looked at him. “You’ve been travelling since early morning, and as Steve pointed out, there’s going to be quite the snowfall tomorrow. Can’t have anyone falling asleep out there, can we?”
A string of hugs and good nights were shared, Clara and Eddie taking it upon themselves to turn off lights and make sure everything was closed and locked correctly. Upon reaching the row of bedrooms, Danny carefully picked Charlie out of Steve’s arms, mumbling something about him being able to walk fine (which only caused Steve to grin widely in response), before the three of them bunched together in one bathroom to brush teeth and get ready, and if any of them were jealous of Grace who had the bathroom belonging to Stella and Bridget’s old rooms all to herself, well, neither one of them said anything.
Danny took it upon himself to tell Charlie a bedtime story that night, meanwhile Steve paid a visit to Grace, who seemed comfortably at home in her aunt’s room. Pressing a kiss to her head, followed by a mumbled sleep tight, he reunited with Danny in the hallway. “Charlie didn’t want your stories?”
“Never got around to asking, he fell asleep before I was one third into the story I started telling him.” Danny shrugged slightly, a step or two in front of Steve as they moved back to the detective’s old bedroom, quietly changing to their pyjamas, which more or less consisted of Steve’s t-shirts (Danny found he was a lot more comfortable sleeping in Steve’s larger, more loose fitting t-shirts, than his own rather tight ones) and plaid pyjamas pants. “You know, it’s a good thing you’re a snuggler when we sleep, because I had forgotten that this bed was smaller than a double.”
Steve scoffed, though allowed for Danny to settle against him under the covers of the bed, a contented hum escaping the detective. “You know, the one thing that really benefits me by enjoying cuddles is the fact that I can definitely turn you over and use you as a shield if Charlie decides to do a cannon-ball onto the bed in the morning.” His tone was warm, teasing even, as he wrapped his arms tighter around Danny, the detective sleepily mumbling a response of something against Steve’s shoulder. “Alright, good night, Danno.”
They slept soundly most of the night, only waking once to the sound of a plough truck clearing the roads of snow outside, having them mumble incoherent sentences about having to spend some time outside with Charlie, before falling asleep again – and then they didn’t wake until Charlie had, in fact, climbed into their bed, sprawling across them with a goofy grin on his lips. “Good morning.” He giggled, before climbing fully onto Danny’s body, allowing Steve’s eyes a moment to adjust to the brightness of the winter sky that was pushing through the curtains. Danny, on the other hand, simply groaned into his pillow, an arm around Charlie’s chest as he tucked the boy into the tight space between himself and Steve, much to the squirming boy’s delight. “No, let me go, Danno, I want to eat breakfast and go outside.” Danny, still with his eyes closed and face halfway buried into the pillow, loosened his grip on Charlie, who immediately squirmed out of the embrace and turned to Steve. “Will you come with me?”
“Yeah, buddy, come on.” Steve chuckled, waiting until Charlie was halfway into the living room before he quickly changed from his pyjamas, and left the bedroom. “Good morning, Clara.” He smiled as he entered the kitchen, having already figured from the smell that she had started making a classic Williams’ tradition, with pancakes for breakfast. Charlie had been lifted to sit on the counter, in a safe distance from the stove, with a glass of orange juice.”
“Good morning, Steve.” She almost chirped happily as a response, though didn’t take her eyes off the fluffy-looking pancake she was cooking. “I hope you’ve slept well, and that the snow plough didn’t wake you too badly. They aren’t always so considerate of the time they decide to make their way through this neighbourhood when the snow’s falling like it is now.” Clara sighed, flipping the pancake before she turned towards the Navy SEAL. “I’ve set out cups for coffee, both for you and for Danny.”
Steve smiled widely, reaching over to ruffle Charlie’s hair, being caught by surprise as Clara wrapped an arm around his torso, pulling him in for a halfway hug. “Thank you, Clara.” He hummed, sneaking an arm around her shoulders to give her a light squeeze, before turning back to the coffee boiler, pouring himself and Danny a cup each of the slightly burnt coffee, made with some local blend (if the bag of coffee ground neatly positioned near the coffee boiler was anything to go by). “I’ll just bring this to Danny. I’ll be back to help with whatever you need soon.”
“Prepare yourself to go outside quite soon after breakfast.” Clara spoke up before he had even had the chance to leave the kitchen, ceramic of the cup warm against his hand as he turned to look at her, evidently curious about what she meant. “Charlie’s been telling me of how he wants to go outside as soon as possible after breakfast, but he’s also adamant of not bringing my husband out. Apparently you’re the only star shining in his sky.”
Steve had half expected her words to come laced with something annoyed, something hurt even, as they were there, with them, Charlie’s grandparents – yet the young boy wanted to include Steve in his every move - but it was nothing of the sort. Maybe it was Danny’s way of making sure Steve didn’t get too overwhelmed by the visit, by the sudden exposure to a family that was a lot closer than the one Steve had grown up with. Chuckling lightly as he saw Charlie’s grin, from where the boy was looking at him over Clara’s shoulder, Steve found himself nodding. “Alright, well, it’s a good thing I brought warm clothes then.”
He handed Danny’s coffee to him with a stubbled kiss to the temple, quickly changing into something he knew from Navy-experience would keep him warm during an outing in the snow. Danny, on the other hand, decided to hang back when Steve made his way back to the kitchen, quickly being ushered out and ordered to sit down by the dining room table with Charlie, where the two of them, alongside Grace and Danny, who at some point had figured it was time for him to drag himself out of bed, the coffee cup still glued to his hands, were served impressive stacks of fluffy-looking pancakes.
“Try not to eat like an animal, please, Steven.” Danny rolled his eyes, though his tone was teasing as he reached out to kick his shin underneath the table. The comment, unheard by Clara (who was in the kitchen again, refilling her own cup of coffee before joining them) and Eddie (who was out ploughing snow in the house’s driveway), only made Steve grin, as Charlie looked between them, a curious look spread on his face. “Don’t worry, Charlie, I’ll tell you later why we call Steve an animal.”
Though still looking between them, the five year old seemed content with the answer, turning back to his mission of devouring his pancakes – and it had Steve wondering if maybe it was Charlie who was the animal when all came down to it. Yet, neither one of them commented on it, instead turning to their own food. Grace kept the conversation going with Clara once she returned to the table, their chatter consisting mostly of things that caused Danny to panic on a good day (college applications, boyfriends, plans for university, if she was ever going to move back to New Jersey), yet in this setting, his legs tangled with Steve’s underneath the table, gaze locked on Charlie who was happily munching away on his syrup drowned pancakes, and with Grace right there at his side, it didn’t even seem as if he noticed her words.
Not surprisingly, Steve and Charlie were the ones who finished their breakfast first, gratefully thanking Clara for the food, before getting ready to head outside. Danny simply chuckled, lifting the coffee cup to his lips as his mother turned to look at him, a cheeky smile spreading on her lips. “You’ve got yourself a third kid there.”
“Tell me about it.” Danny rolled his eyes, sipping his coffee. “They’ve both got a lot of joy in each other’s company, though. I know there was a time where Rachel absolutely hated the idea of Steve being such a big part of Charlie’s life, but now … well, if she still has something against it, she’s doing a good job at keeping her mouth shut.”
“If she sees how happy her son is, she’ll know to keep her thoughts to herself.” Clara simply shrugged, sipping her own coffee. Grace, with her blessed sixth sense (or whatever it was), excused herself from the table with a kiss to her grandmother’s cheek, and hurried off to the room she had been sleeping in. “The way he is with you, with the kids, it’s unlike anything I ever saw from your ex-wife. The way Charlie turns to him? I hope you treasure that, Danny. If anything, I hope it helps you realise that you have nothing to worry about in a relationship with him.” She smiled, trailing off as Charlie poked his head into the dining room, a large and toothy grin flashed in their direction as he announced they would be going outside to make snowmen. “You should teach Steve the secret Williams’ snowman trick, Charlie.” Clara winked at her grandson, receiving an eager nod in response, before he hurried back to the hall, the sound of his and Steve’s laughter mixing as it grew fainter, vanishing behind the sound of the front door shutting. “I hope you see as clearly as the rest of us that he’s not just in it for you, he’s in it for the whole package. You, the kids, the family – he wants it all.”
“Yeah, we’ve talked about it, the whole thing.” Danny leaned back against the hard, wooden chair, not failing to notice the cracking sound of the chair’s back. “Sometime after we admitted it all, and I’d been staying at the house and Charlie had been situated in the room that’s now his, and Steve just kind of blurted it out over a beer on the lanai.”
“Romantic.” Clara chuckled.
“I don’t know, I still think he was way beyond tipsy at the point of the admission, but somehow he didn’t back down from his words the following morning, when he had gotten up early with Charlie and I found them watching cartoons in the living room.” Danny smiled, once again lifting his cup to his lips, sighing slightly into the sip of coffee. “You know, the idea of bringing him here for this visit, it was all Charlie and Gracie?”
Clara hummed, the amusement evident on her face. “I’m not surprised. They’re crazy about him, both of them.” She glanced in the direction of the hall as the front door opened, the sound of someone shuffling inside catching their attention. “Not that you need to worry, he’s crazy about them too, and I’d say he’s crazy about you.”
Eddie made his presence known with a chuckle, his cheeks flushed red from the cold, accompanied with a wide smile and a slight sniffle. “Are you talking about the two who’re having the time of their lives out there? With the rate they’re going at, either one of you should head out with something warm to drink for them, and probably dry mittens for Charlie.”
Danny smiled a little as he leaned forward again, swallowing the last mouthful of his coffee, before getting up. “I’ll head out and make sure they’re alright. Maybe you would like to make your hot chocolate, mom?” He flashed a grin in Clara’s direction, a smile that turned almost giddy when she nodded (it wasn’t like living in Hawaii gave him a lot of chances to drink hot chocolate, when the rest of the island was already ridiculously hot as it was). He stopped by Grace on his way to find a sweater, chuckling to himself at the sight of his daughter sprawled on the bed, happily chatting away with her cousins as they planned what to do when the rest of the Williams-family would drop by. Danny hoped Steve wouldn’t feel overwhelmed at the thought of the family gathering – not that they were all unfamiliar faces. He had met Bridget before, albeit briefly, and the two had seemed to hit it off, and while he hadn’t met Stella, Danny was quite certain she would like Steve – and the other way around.
The air was sharp as Danny stepped out to the porch, the remains of snow that had fallen off shoe soles and been brushed off jackets and pants giving the darkened deck a bright and decorative pattern. Steve had seemed to tap into a Navy-like behaviour, chirping out “yessir!” whenever Charlie asked him to do something, whether it be fetching a new snowball or digging up gravel to make sure they had what they needed to make the snowman’s face. Above them, snowflakes were still falling at a rapid speed from the sky, the small white spots a stark contrast to Steve’s dark hair (because of course he wasn’t wearing a hat).
“Danno, are you going to come help us?” Charlie cheered as he spotted his father on the porch. However, at the sight of his father’s shake of the head, the five year old huffed, before turning back to the pile of snow he was actively digging in, seemingly unbothered by the cold. What he hadn’t expected, though, was for his father to hover over the pile when he looked back up, a wide grin on his lips and the dry mittens in his hands.
“Grandpa told me you might have some cold hands out here?” Danny raised an eyebrow slightly, stifling a chuckle at the sight of his son’s goofy grin, and Danny wasn’t going to lie – he wasn’t very impressed when Charlie tugged his mittens off, wrists red from where the snow had been layering against his skin underneath the sleeve of his jacket, hands freezing cold from having dug around in the snow. “Okay, let’s get these on, and if you can allow your hands to warm up just a little without being underneath the snow, you can get a cup of hot chocolate, yeah?”
“Okay, Danno.” Charlie grinned, carefully tucked the sleeve of his jacket over the hem of the mittens, before running off to sit at the steps of the porch while he waited for Clara to appear.
Steve, on the other hand, wrapped himself around Danny in a matter both of them had come to realise they enjoyed, stubble scraping against his ear, and a freezing cold nose pressing against his temple. “You were right, you know, there is something special about a Jersey winter.” He chuckled, the feeling of his rumble against Danny’s back sending some sort of warmth through his body. “Besides, the snowfall … it’s nice.” Steve added, extending a gloved hand to catch some of the snowflakes. “Maybe we should bring Charlie to Mauna Kea at some point. It’s not Jersey, but it’s the best Hawaii’s got when it comes to snow. He’s already a stellar surfer, he’d be an amazing snowboarder as well.”
Danny simply chuckled, turning them to face the porch as Clara emerged in the doorway, bringing hot chocolate for them all, Charlie already fully engaged in telling his grandmother all about the snowman they were currently building. “I’d prefer for him to be a little older than five before we take him to a volcanic mountain.” He rolled his eyes, though a grin was still tugging on the corners of his lips as Steve nuzzled closer again, pressing a gentle kiss to the side of Danny’s head. Reaching down, he snuck a hand into one of Steve’s gloved ones, and squirmed out of the tight embrace before he tugged Steve along. “Come on, let’s get you warmed up with a hot chocolate.”

First Line Tag Game
Rules: Post the first lines of your last 10 fics posted to ao3. if you have less than 10 fics posted, post the first lines of all your fics. 😊
I was tagged by the lovey @wheelsupin-five thank you  😊💛 I only have 7 uploaded and only one 911 fic so far but here goes.
Jealousy Complex (911 - buddie)
“You don’t have to do this Jonah…please…I’m begging, just let him go.” Eddie’s voice hitched around the bulge in his throat. He was tied to a chair with ropes so tight he’d lost feeling in his hands and feet, but he didn’t give a fuck about himself. It was Buck, laying comatose on a table just an arm’s length away, cardiac electrodes dotted across his bare chest and an intravenous drip in the back of his hand pumping him full of a powerful sedative, that was turning him into a teary, snotty-nosed, emotional wreck.
Ticking Time Bomb Part 1 (H50)
Danny Williams lay on the narrow mattress in the Kailua-Kona hotel room staring at the ceiling as he contemplated the McGarrett-shaped lump in the opposite bed.
Love Letters Part 2 (H50)
Danny woke in his own, otherwise empty bed, cranky at the morning light coming in through the gap in the hotel curtain and even more cranky at his relentless pessimism which prompted him to abandon the bed of the Adonis he was partnered with, the regret just another to add to the pile when it came to being honest about his feelings for Steve.
A Fresh Perspective (H50)
Steve’s decision weighed heavily as he stowed his bag in the overhead locker and took the window seat.
His earlier resolve was beginning to waver, replaced by an uneasy feeling, now that his departure was imminent.
Did I really just leave Danny sitting on the beach alone, a week out from hospital?
Smoke & Mirrors (The Professionals, Bodie and Doyle)
The bullet pierced the fragile bone, shattering her skull and carving a path through her brain like it was semi-set jelly.  Blood sprayed, slapping surfaces within reach; the floral wallpaper, the plastered ceiling and the tapestry fabric of the sofa as well as the family portraits positioned with care on the mantle, although by chance, a smaller image, set back from the others, miraculously escaped the bloodbath. A young curly haired PC photographed with his arm draped over the shoulder of the smiling, recently graduated police woman, lay silent witness to the tragedy.
A Trophy Highly Prized Part 1 (The Professionals, Bodie and Doyle)
George Cowley was agitated. Far too restless to sit so he stood at his office window and loosened his tie while he watched storm clouds roll in, hoping like hell it wasn’t an ominous sign.
A Prize Highly Valued Part 2 (The Professionals, Bodie and Doyle)
The corridor was depressingly familiar. They’d been here often enough, when one or the other had been injured, even the cracks in the ceiling were imprinted on his memory and if he closed his eyes he could visualise the water stain by the door, right where a small piece of forgotten tinsel was impaled by its rusty tack. Some things never changed.

End of a Year, Beginning a New
Characters: Steve McGarrett X Reader (wife), Tom McGarrett (OMC), Lani McGarrett (OFC), Danny Williams, Grace Williams, Kono Kalakaua, Chin Ho Kelly
Word Count: 7800
Warnings: Language, Angst, FLUFF Holiday Fun
A/n: I had only 1 Christmas request, which was Prompt number 19 & 31 with Steve and your kids and them all cuddling on the sofa. Seeing as this was my only request I thought, well go big or go home. So, I took the list of Christmas things and added as many as I possibly could. I used almost all of the things on the list but there were some that couldn’t happen because it’s Hawaii and there is no snow.
A/n#2: Sorry, this is WAY later than I had originally intended to post this. Also, as I was writing this, I realized that this could have turned it into a mini-series, if I had started earlier and posted on the dates in the fic.... I’m an Idiot.
Feedback is always welcome. The Good and The Bad, it helps me as a writer.

December 1st
You couldn’t believe it was December already. You were a little surprised when your kids came to you and Steve with their letters to Santa. Your son Tom only wanted one thing, a puppy. Your daughter Lani wanted, well you had to ask her what she wanted because she doesn’t know how to write yet. She’s also stubborn like her father and won’t ask for help. Once you saw the little drawing at the bottom of the paper you knew she wanted a pet too, only hers was a cat.
You and Steve had been discussing getting your kids a pet. You thought they were both ready, even though you and Steve would be doing most of the work. Now was the hard part, deciding if the family pet was going to be a dog or a cat. You didn’t want to break either of your kids’ hearts. For now, the family pet was on hold until you could discuss it some more.
December 8th
You wanted so badly to find a fresh tree for Christmas this year, but it wasn’t going very well. It was starting to feel like you had searched the whole island for the right tree. You were exhausted, and it felt like you had failed.
You had gone into the garage closet to start pulling out the decorations. Even though you didn’t have a tree you still wanted to get things set up for when you get one. As you were going through everything, you saw a box in the very back of the closet. A lot of this stuff has been in here for at least a year. The farther back you go the longer it has been in there.
You decided for some reason to pull the box out. After seeing what it was you were happy you pulled it out. Forgetting everything else that you had pulled out, you took the box inside to get it set up before Steve came home with the kids.
Just as you were putting the last part on, you heard Steve yelling for you.
“Y/n? Honey are you in here?”
“Yes.” You quickly ran to stop them from seeing what you had done. “Close your eyes.”
“Why?” Tom was looking up at you.
“Because I have a surprise for the three of you.”
The three of them closed their eyes. You picked up your son, handing him to Steve before picking up your daughter. Once they were in your arms, you guided Steve into the living room. Making sure they were all facing the right way.
“Are you guys ready?”
“Yes!” They said in unison.
“Okay, Open your eyes.”
They opened their eyes and were shocked. You had found your old artificial tree in that box. It was your old tree from when you were living in LA before you moved to Hawaii. It was a six-foot tall and as bushy as can be. You love Christmas this tree was really your one big splurge.
“Do you like it?” You were starting to worry when none of them were talking.
“I love it mommy.”
Lani was starting to bounce in your arms. You set her down and she instantly ran to it looking up towards the top. Steve set down Tom, he did the same thing as his sister. Now both of your kids were just staring up in aww of this large tree. Steve moved closer to you wrapping his arm around your waist.
“Where did you find it? We looked everywhere.”
“Not everywhere. It was in the garage closet, with all if the other things I haven’t gone through since I moved in here. I was pulling out the Christmas decorations when I found it.”
“Oh, it’s a good thing you found it, or we might not have had a tree.” Steve looked around a little confused. “Honey?”
“Yeah.”
“If you found this when you were pulling out the Christmas stuff, where is everything?”
“Dang it, I knew I forgot something. I was just so excited to find the tree I forgot to bring everything in.”
“Well let’s go get them and start putting this together.”
You and Steve went out and started pulling the decorations into the house while your kids waited with the tree. Once everything was inside, you started opening up the small totes to see what was inside. You had to have Steve start the lights because you are too short to, but once they got to your level you took over. Then your kids started going through all of the ornaments picking their favorites. You made sure to put on the ones you have been picking out for them every year since they were born. This year your sons was Toothless the dragon and your daughters was Stitch from Lilo and Stitch.
You let Steve and the kids finish the tree while you put up the stockings above the fireplace. You also added a few other things that was passed down to you. Your mother made sure to give you her little Christmas village and the Christmas train that goes around the tree but that could wait until the kids were done decorating.
You took a step back to watch them, they were laughing and having fun. You pulled out your phone and started taking pictures.
“What are you doing?” Steve looked back at you as he helped Lani place a candy cane on the top section of the tree.
“Nothing. Just taking pictures of you guys. You all look so cute decorating the tree together.”
“You know what would be cuter?”
“What’s that?”
“If you were to come over here and decorate with us.” He waved his hand for you to come over to him and the kids.
“Well since you guys are almost done, I say we put the star on and then we watch some Christmas shows or movies.”
“Yeah. I wanna do that.” Tom was jumping up and down with excitement.
Steve grabbed the star and picked up Tom, moving him closer to the tree. Tom reached up and placed the star on top. Steve set him down on the ground before plugging the star into the lights, then plugging the lights in to make it all light up.
December 15th
You had to finish your Christmas shopping. You normally don’t wait this late to do it, but time got away from you. You had to get a few more gifts for the kids and Steve. Then you had to get something for your secret Santa at work. This year you got Danny, you wanted to get him a gag gift and a nice one.
You were making your way through the mall, there was so many people. This is one of the reasons that you don’t normally wait to shop for your loved ones. You like to buy things throughout the year, so that you are not rushing.
You have been walking around for about three hours now. Your arms were full and tired, and you were so done being around people. So, you made your way out to your truck, piling all of the bags and boxes into the back seat. You had to hurry home and hide all of these gifts before you had to go pick up the kids.
December 18th
Today was the day of the office party, you were so excited for it. You loved hanging out with your friends and co-workers. As much as you love your kids, you also need your adult time.
When you were getting things together to bring to the office, your son came into the kitchen.
“Hey baby, what are you doing?”
“Mommy I don’t feel good.” That’s when you noticed he looked a little paler than he should.
“Oh no. Come here.”
He walked over to you, you placed the back of your hand to his forehead, and he felt a little warm. You picked him up and carried him to the kid’s bathroom, you set him down on the counter. You opened up the top drawer and pull out the thermometer and kids Tylenol.
“Okay buddy you need to put this under your tongue.”
You turned on the thermometer and held it up to his mouth. He opened his mouth and lifted up his tongue. He held it in there till the beeps went off.
102, popped up on the screen. Your head dropped; you hate it when your kids are sick. You walked over to the tub to run him a bath to try and bring it down. You got him all situated in the tub, then you went to the door and called for Steve. He came around the corner to see you leaning up against the door frame looking into the bathroom.
“What’s wrong.”
“Tom has a fever, so I’m going to stay here tonight.”
“Honey.” He started, but as soon as he saw your face he stopped. “Okay I will call Deb and tell her that she doesn’t need to come.”
Before Steve could even call Debora, there was a knock at the door. You looked at each other knowing it was her, Steve went downstairs to talk to her. He explained the situation to her and let her know that she didn’t need to come over and how he was about to call her. The conversation went on for a while. He came back to you and Tom; Deb was walking up behind him.
“She wants to talk to you.” You smiled at her as Steve walked into the bathroom.
“Hey Deb.”
“Hi sweetheart, I’m sorry to hear that Tom has a fever. You know I can still watch the kids so that you can go to your party.”
“I appreciate the offer, but I think I’m just going to stay home.”
“Are you sure I don’t mind.”
You just stood there thinking about it. You didn’t want to leave Tom, but you also wanted to see your friends. You looked over to see your son’s head on the side of the tub resting, he was talking to Steve.
“What to adults do at parties?”
“The same thing kids do at parties. We spend time together with our friends, have food and drinks, maybe we will play a game.”
“Do you have bouncy houses?”
“No, that’s one of the few things we don’t have.”
“Oh, that doesn’t sound very fun.”
“I know right, but its more about the people you are with than the fun stuff. You see when you get older.”
“I hope not.” Tom seemed to be his normal happy self. “Mommy?”
“Yes baby.” You stepped into the bathroom.
“Can you get a bouncy house for your party? It will make it better.”
“I’m not sure that I can, it is a little too late for that. They are going to have to stay bouncy less.”
“That’s sad.”
“It’s okay though, I’m sure that daddy and uncle Danny will keep them occupied.”
“What about you?” He sat up, looking at you with a confused look.
“I’m going to stay here with you.”
“You’re not going?”
“No.”
“It’s okay, you can go.”
“Honey, you’re sick and I don’t want to leave you.”
“No, you have to go to your party.”
“Why?”
“You have to make it fun; daddy and uncle Danny can’t do it on their own.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at the look on Steve’s face. He was looking at Tom with a fake hurt look.
“Hey I’m fun. Uncle Danny is on the fence but I’m fun.”
“But mommy is funner and she’s the best at it.” Now both you and Deb were laughing so hard.
“Honey let’s not pick on daddy. How about we get you out of here and into some pajamas, so you can watch movies with Lani and Grandma Deb.”
You looked back to Deb and saw her nod. You turned back to Tom who also nodded at you. Steve pulled the plug while you grabbed the monkey towel to wrap him up. Steve and Deb went to get Lani and get the movies set up. Once you had Tom dried off, in his pajamas, you gave him the Tylenol then you took him downstairs. You placed him next to Deb, before going to finish getting things ready.
When things were done in the kitchen, you went upstairs to get ready. You put on your little black dress and flats; you were not going to even pretend that heels are a good idea. You put on simple jewelry and makeup, then one last look in the mirror before you came out of your bathroom into the bedroom. Steve was in the room; he was finishing getting ready. He was facing away from you while he put on his watch. He had a black button up, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and black jeans on. You were just watching him for a little too long, he looked up into the mirror to see you staring. He just smiled before turning around and walking over to you.
“You look amazing.”
“You don’t look so bad yourself.” You looked up at him with the corner of your lip caught in your teeth.
“Is that why you couldn’t take your eyes off of me?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Mhmm.”
You moved around him to head downstairs. You went into the living room and kissed your kids goodbye and thanked Deb for staying with them. Moments after Steve came down doing the same. You walked into the kitchen loading Steve and your arms up with the things you made and bought. You already had some stuff at the palace in your office.
Once you got to the office, you were greeted by Kono. She opened the door for you and Steve. You and Kono had decorated the office at the beginning of the month. Everyone was on board with it except the Grinch himself. You would always made it a point to play Christmas music around Danny. There was even one day that you kept putting candy canes in random spots around his office.
After setting everything down on a table that you had moved in the day before. You started setting everything out and making sure everything fit. You asked Steve to grab the things out of your office so you could set them out too.
Soon after you were done setting everything out, people started showing up. You invited Lou and his S.W.A.T. team and even some of the HPD guys.
After about an hour, it came time to do secret Santa exchange. Everyone seemed to like their gifts, but you got nervous when it came to Danny’s turn. You made sure he got the gag gift first by holding back the real gift.
He opened it slowly, eyeing you for most of it. Once he got the lid off of the little box, he busted out in laughter. He pulled out the bright green tie, which was covered in The Grinch.
“This is awesome.” As he proceeded to put on the tie.
“Well, damn. That was supposed to be a gag gift. I didn’t think you would like it so much.”
“What do you mean this was a gag gift?”
“It was to remind you that you are the Grinch and how you always used to ware ties back in the HPD days.” You got up and walked over to your backpack pulling out a large envelope. “Here.”
This one he opened a little faster. He pulled out the pamphlets and papers inside. He started reading through them. There was a reservation for three days and two nights at the Kahala Hotel and Resort. There was also a reservation for the Dolphin Quest. You know how much Grace loves dolphins, so this was more of a present for her, but you knew it would be fun for Danny to spend time with her.
“So, the dates are flexible, but I know a guy who could give you the three days off.” Your eyes went to Steve and back to Danny in a quick second.
“Wow this is amazing. Thank you.” He got up and hugged you.
Then everyone started mingling. You had gone to get you and Steve a drink. You put a little bit of eggnog in a cup, when you took a sip, you knew something was off. You looked around the room, ultimately landing on Steve. Someone spiked the eggnog, and by the way your husband was looking at you, you figured it was him.
December 20th
Tonight, it was just you and the kids, Steve had work to do but he promised when he got home that all of you would do something fun. You knew he would keep his word; he doesn’t make a promise that he can’t keep. So, until then you had to keep your little munchkins occupied.
When you were out shopping the other day, you had grabbed a few gingerbread houses for the kids to decorate. You had built the houses for them, hopefully this would make it a little easier. You had everything set out on the table. There was various candies, colored icing, and various gingerbread boys and girls.
They spent quite a bit of time working on these little houses. They also spent a lot of time eating the decorations.
When Steve walked through the door, the kids ran to him and started climbing all over him. Once they were secure in his arms, they were telling him all about their day at daycare and to look at their gingerbread houses. After he made it to the table, he set the kids down and came around to you.
You got up to greet him. He instantly wrapped his arms around you. You could feel that he was tense, but as soon as you wrapped your arms around him and started rubbing his back, you felt all of that tension melt away. You tried to look at him, but he just buried his face into your neck.
“Honey are you okay?”
You whispered into his ear so the kids wouldn’t hear. He shook his head, you just squeezed him tighter. After a few seconds you felt two hands on your legs. You moved to see Your children hugging onto the two of you. You don’t know if they could sense that there was something wrong or if they just wanted to be in on the hug. Either way you felt Steve relax even more with them hugging him too. You don’t know how long all of you were standing there but when Steve finally pulled away you could see he was happier then when he walked in.
“Thank you, sweetheart.”
He whispered just before he pulled you in for a kiss. When he pulled away, he looked down at the two munchkins that were staring up at him. He moved back just a little and crouched down to their level. He pulled them into another hug. He thanked them as well.
You sent them to go put their shoes on. Once they were out of the room, you turned back to Steve.
“Do you wanna talk about it?”
“Not really.”
“Okay. Just if you decide that you do, I’m here.” You gave him a small smile.
When everyone was ready to go, you buckled the kids into their car seats. Steve didn’t tell you where you were going. He wanted it to be a surprise for you as well. When he pulled up to the mall you had a suspicion on who you were going to see.
You unbuckled the kids and got them out. Lani ran to Steve, and he hoisted her onto his shoulders, she is definitely a daddy’s girl. Tom grabbed onto your hand; he was your momma’s boy. You walked into the mall; Steve looked at you nodding to the man in the center where all the halls meet.
“Do you guys see who I see?”
You asked your kids who were still confused on why they were there. They looked around, trying to see who you were talking about. Lani was the first to spot him.
“SANTA!!!”
She got so excited that she almost fell back off of Steve’s shoulders, but she quickly wrapped her arms around his head covering his eyes. You couldn’t help but laugh as he tried to pry her arms off his eyes. Tom was jumping up and down trying to see. You scooped him up and pointed towards the jolly man. You walked over to the end of the line to wait your turn to see Santa. When it was your turn, one of the elves quietly asked you for your kid’s names, once you told her she went to quietly tell Santa. your kids didn’t notice because they were just staring at him in “aww.” You had to poke them to bring them out of their gaze.
“Hello little ones.” He waved them to come up.
“Hi.” All of a sudden, your kids became shy, they have never been shy a day in their short lives.
“Have you been good this year?”
“Yes.” “Yeah.”
“Well, that’s great news. What would you like for Christmas Tom?”
“I really want a puppy.”
“Oh, that’s a big responsibility. Are you sure you’re ready for that?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Good to hear.” He turned to the other side where your daughter was sitting. “What about you miss Lani, what do you want for Christmas?”
“I want a kitty.”
“Wow, a kitty.” She nodded her head. “Kitties are also a big responsibility. Are you up for all of them?”
“Yes Santa.”
“Well, this is a tall order for Santa to fill. My elves will have to help me with this one. No matter what happens on Christmas morning I want both of you to know that I will try my best to figure this out.”
“Okay.”
Lani jumped down from his lap and came back to Steve. Tom on the other hand lingered for a little longer. You could tell that he was upset at what Santa had told him. He finally walked over and grabbed your hand.
When you guys got home, you put on The Nightmare Before Christmas for the kids, while you and Steve went to the kitchen to talk.
“Well, that was something else.” Steve was the first to speak.
“Yeah, it was. I just don’t want to pick between which one of our kids gets a pet.” You sat on the counter as you spoke.
“I know hunny, but I don’t know about two animals right now. Especially when they are babies.”
“How are we supposed to pick? I don’t want to see either of them upset on Christmas.”
“I don’t either. Somehow we have to figure it out.”
He came up to you, standing between your legs and placing his arms around you. You just dropped your head to his shoulder.
“Why did our kids do this to us? Why? Did they really have to pick the same year to want an animal? UGH!” Steve just laughed.
“It will be alright; we will figure it out.”
December 22nd
You were out trying to find last minute stocking stuffers when you saw a couple that had little German shepherd puppies for sale. You know that you should talk to Steve first, but they are just so adorable. The problem is that if you get a puppy now you have to find someone to take it in for the next few days, so your kids don’t see it. You called the first person of whom you could think.
“Hello?”
“Hey Kono, I have a favor to ask.”
“Okay… What might that be?”
“I am looking at the cutest little puppies and I want to get one for the kids for Christmas but…”
“But you can’t keep it at your house because the kids will see it.”
“Exactly… so my question is could I possibly keep the puppy at your house until late Christmas Eve?”
There was a significant pause from her end of the line.
“Please. How about this I will do your paperwork for a month.” You started to lay it on thick, and bringing the kids into it you knew she wouldn’t be able to say no. “It’s for your niece and nephew.”
“Okay, fine I’ll watch him for you.”
“Thank you. You are amazing. I will bring him by with all the supplies needed for him over soon as I get them all.”
You said your goodbyes and walked over to the couple selling the puppies. You started talking to them about why they were getting rid of the puppies. They were telling you that their dog got pregnant by the dog that lives next door and they couldn’t manage all of them. You went to hand them money for the puppy, when one of the puppies walked to the end of the truck bed and sat in front of you. He was absolutely adorable, he let out a few small barks. That’s when you knew you had to take him with you.
You took him to the pet store with you and got everything you needed. From puppy pads, food and water bowls, food and toys to a crate and training treats. Once you had everything you could think of, you headed to Kono’s. You brought everything in while she played with the puppy. You set everything up for her as well. You stayed there for a little while before heading home.
 December 24th
Today is Christmas Eve and all month your kids were so excited for Santa to come.
You had gotten up early to start on the Christmas desserts. You and Steve were hosting Christmas this year and you wanted everything to be perfect. You had finished the cookies and were starting on the pie crusts when you heard little footsteps heading towards the kitchen. You looked over to the doorway to see your children round the corner
“Hey kiddos. What are you up too?”
“Nothing.” Tom said with a mischievous grin on his little face.
“Yeah, nothing.” Lani mimicked her older brother.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“You know Santa is still watching and listening. So, he knows if you’re being naughty.”
“We aren’t being bad mommy.”
“I’ll believe you for now. You guys are troublemakers just like your daddy.”
“I’m pretty sure you’re the troublemaker out of the two of us.” You looked up to see Steve leaning against the door frame.
“I highly doubt that.”
The kids have been so energetic all day. You and Steve took the kids to the beach to swim and burn off some of the energy they had. They were running around, went swimming and they made sandcastles. You even tried to make sandmen and sand angels. You didn’t care that you were getting weird looks as this was happening. You just wanted your kids to have fun, and that’s all that mattered to you.
Once you saw that the kids were starting to get cold, you told them it was time to pack up. Of course, they said they weren’t cold, despite them beginning to shiver. Steve picked up the two rascals and started walking to the truck. You picked up the towels and the toys before walking to the truck as well.
When you got home you gave the kids a bath and put them in their Christmas pajamas. Before you took them into the bath you gave Steve his pair, he was just excited as the kids were. They were red and black flannel bottoms with a black and white shirt that had Rudolf on them. This year you let your daughter pick since your son picked last year.
After the bath was over, the kids ran down the stairs to where Steve was waiting for them. He had Rudolf set up on the tv ready to be watched. He also had not so hot, hot chocolate, various kinds of popcorn, some candy for the kids to pick from and put in their little movie trays. You had quickly changed into your pajamas and walked downstairs to see all three of them sitting on the sofa under fluffy blankets waiting for you.
“Mommy!” Your daughter was so excited to see you.
“Yay! We can watch Rudolf now!” You just laughed at your son as he turned to Steve as he pointed to the tv.
“We have to wait buddy; mommy hasn’t sat down yet.”
“Come on mommy.” You could see his little legs wiggling, as you walked over.
“Okay, okay I’m here bud.” You said as you sat next to Steve.
When Steve played the movie there was silence. The kids were so into the movie that they weren’t even eating their snacks. Slowly as the movie went along, they started giggling, eating, and pointing out things in the movie.
After the movie was over it was time to pick out cookies for Santa. Each one of the kids picked a cookie out. Tom went for a reindeer one and Lani went for a tree one. You put them on a special Santa cookie plate. Steve grabbed a cup and poured the milk into it before taking it out to the small table next to the fireplace. Tom and Lani were there writing a note for Santa.
Once they were done and everything was set up, Steve took them to Tom’s room to read them a bedtime story. Lani was so excited for tomorrow that she wanted to have a sleepover with her brother. You walked up there just minutes after they were in bed. Steve was reading Ke Ahiahi Mamua O Kalikimaka (T’was the night before Christmas in Hawai’i) to them. It was absolutely adorable; he was doing different voices and being enthusiastic with it.
When the story was over, you and Steve kissed them both goodnights. As you were closing the door you heard your son talking to his little sister.
“Lani, I’m gonna stay up and try to see Santa.”
“Me too.” You heard her voice perk up.
“We have to be quiet so we can hear when he gets here, okay?”
“Okay.” Her voice was significantly quieter.
You chuckled to yourself as you followed Steve back downstairs.
“What’s so funny?” He asked as soon as you were downstairs.
“Our kids are planning to stay up all night to see Santa.”
“I don’t think they will make it past midnight.”
“I don’t either. Honestly with how hard they were playing today I don’t see them getting past ten.”
“That’s true. So, what do you want to do first?” He rubbed his hands together.
“Well, we have to wait till they fall asleep to do all the Santa stuff, but I have some gifts that I need to finish wrapping. So, I get to go hide out in our room, wanna help?”
“Okay but fair warning, mine are not going to come out as good as yours.”
“It can’t be that bad.”
Actually, it was bad. You gave him a small box to wrap, you even cut the paper for him and somehow it didn’t fit. At first you thought that he was just messing with you, but after fixing the third present you knew he wasn’t messing with you. You think. Either way, you kicked him out of the room to go check to see if the kids had fallen asleep. When he came back to the bedroom, he let you know that they were asleep.
You quickly finished wrapping the presents, then carried them downstairs. You set all of them on the couch before going to Steve’s and your office to collect the rest from the closets. The only one that wasn’t here was the puppy and you need to go and pick him up. Once all of the presents were in the living room you started placing them around the tree.
While you dealt with the presents, Steve was working on something special. He went outside to get a tote that had sand inside of it. He grabbed a pair of boots, dipping them in a little bit of water and started making sand prints. It was going to be a pain to clean later but it would be worth it overall.
After everything was done, You and Steve took a seat on the couch to admire your work. You grabbed the plate with the two cookies on it. Holding it out to him waiting for him to take one. Once he did, you picked up the second one taking a bite out of the tree.
“You wanna watch a movie?”
“I would but I have to pick up one last present.”
“You do? What is it?”
“I may or may not have gotten the kids a puppy.” You looked down at the half-eaten tree that sits in your lap.
“Oh no.”
“What?” You looked up to see him rubbing his eyes to the bridge of his nose.
“I may or may not have gotten the kids a kitten.” He turned his head to see your reaction.
“Oh, well this should be fun.”
“Yeah. So where is this mysterious puppy?”
“He’s at Kono’s. Where’s your mysterious kitten?”
“She’s at Chin’s.”
Both of you just laughed. You got up to go grab your coat and keys. You said a quick goodbye to Steve. You left to go to Kono’s. She had everything all packed up for you and ready to go.
“Thank you so much Kono.”
“No problem. He was so good; he was really playful and gave me lots of cuddles. I think the kids will love him.”
Just as you were getting back, you saw Chin walking out the door with Steve. They walked over to you as you opened your passenger door.
“Hey Y/n.”
“Hi Chin.”
You moved to the side to show them the sleeping puppy in the front seat.
“Well, it looks like you guys are going to have your hands full after tonight.” Chin gave you a little chuckle.
“Yeah, we will. I think from now on we need to start making these decisions together, or else we may end up with a shelter of animals.” You looked to Steve to see him smiling.
“Agreed. Let’s get this little man inside and set up for the morning.”
You agreed with him, picking up the pup and cuddling him close to your body. Steve grabbed the crate and one of the bags. Chin offered to help; he grabbed the last of the bags before following you inside.
You got everything set up in your bedroom, so that the kids wouldn’t see him is they tried to sneak out early. After Chin had left, you put the puppy in his bed. You covered the cage with a blanket, he fell right to sleep. You made a makeshift crate for the little kitten. You got an empty tote and placed a small blanket on one side and a puppy pad on the other. You also put in a little bit of water and wet food into both of the crates just in case they needed it. Then you crawled into bed where Steve was waiting. Now you needed to try to get some sleep before your two little munchkins come to wake you up.
December 25th – Christmas Day
Sure, enough five in the morning, you start hearing little footsteps running down the hall. They went down the stairs and then you heard little screams before the footsteps started again towards your bedroom. You turned to look at Steve, he looked at you a few seconds later. He got out of bed and went to the door, opening it just in time to have both children bump into him.
“DADDY! SANTA CAME!” Tom yelled.
“He did!”
“YEAH, THERE ARE SO MANY PRESENTS!” Lani threw out her little arms to try and show him how many there were.
“Wow that sounds like a lot.”
“Can we go open them?”
“How about we let mommy sleep a little longer? She’s really tired.”
“Okay.” They both said in unison.
“How about we go downstairs and watch a movie? Then when it’s over we can wake up mommy.”
“Yeah.”
You heard little footsteps run down the stairs. You looked over to see Steve coming towards you. He place his hands on the sides of your head, caging you in.
“Go back to sleep sweetheart. I will keep them occupied for a while.”
“It’s okay, I can get up.” You started to sit up as a large yawn came through your body.
“No. You have been up late for the last few weeks trying to make everything perfect for everyone else, it’s time to take a little time for you. So please go back to sleep for a little bit. I will come and get you when they can’t hold back anymore.”
“Okay.”
He gave you a kiss, only breaking when the kids started yelling for him. He turned around, before he could walk away you swatted him on the butt and quickly pulling the covers up to your eyes. He turned back to you with the same mischievous grin your son had given you yesterday.
“You’re going to pay for that later.”
You just squinted your eyes at him as if to challenge him. He turned and walked out of the room to go hang out with the kids. You laid there for what felt like forever, only to look at the clock to see that it was only five thirty. You couldn’t take it any more you had to get up, you had so much to do before this afternoon when people would start showing up.
You got up and tip-toed over to the crates to check on the puppy and kitten. They were still asleep and looked so adorable. You walked over to the door, opening it as quietly as possible. You slowly moved to the stairs, trying to be as silent as possible. Once you made it down the stairs you were able to slip into the kitchen without your three loves hearing you.
You started pulling the turkey and the ham out of the fridge, placing them in pans on the counter. Then you started pulling things out to make breakfast for Steve and the kids. You filled the coffee pot and put coffee in the filter, you turned it on completely forgetting that it makes a beeping noise. You were hoping that Steve didn’t hear it. As your luck would have it, Steve was standing in the doorway as you were mixing up the pancake batter.
“What are you doing?” Steve’s voice coming up behind you, causing you to jump.
“Holy Shi…” You grabbed at your chest. “You scared the absolute shit out of me.”
“Sweetheart, what are you doing out of bed?” He walked up and wrapped his arms around your waist from behind.
“I couldn’t stay up there. I have so much I have to get done.” You leaned your head back onto his chest.
“Well since you aren’t going to stay up there, come in and watch the movie with us.”
“Not yet, I want to get these done first.” You pointed down to the pancake batter.
“Okay let me help and it will go faster.”
“Alright.”
The two of you started working on breakfast. You worked like a well-oiled machine. With Steve helping you, you were able to get pancakes, eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns done relatively quick. You left everything in pans and placed them into the oven to keep them warm.
After you were done, both of you went into the living room where the kids were watching The Grinch who Stole Christmas. They were so focused on it that they didn’t even seem to notice you. You took this opportunity to go upstairs to bring down the special present.
You were able to find a box that was sturdy enough and large enough to hold both of them comfortably. You snuck it downstairs, you were able to set it down next to the couch. You put a thin blanket over them, so they had air and so that the kids didn’t see it right away. You did a quick check on them before grabbing the remote for the train, then sitting down. You sat there drinking your coffee for a moment wrapped in a blanket, curled into Steve’s side.
“Hey kiddos. You ready to open up your stockings?”
Both kids whipped their heads around to see you and Steve smiling at them.
“Mommy’s here.” Tom got up, running over to where you were sitting, crawling up into your lap. Lani followed her brother, but she went to Steve.
“Yeah, you know what that means?”
“PRESENTS!”
“Yes, but you have to start with the stockings.”
“Okay.”
Both of them climbed off of your laps and went over to where they were hanging. You set your coffee down, taking off the blanket before walking over and taking them down for them. They got threw the stockings pretty fast. Once they got to the bottom, they were ready for the presents under the tree.
Steve went to the tree and started making little piles of presents for everyone. Once he was done, he let the kids have free rein on them. There was wrapping paper flying every which way. There was a lot of little screams and happy noises going around too. Once the paper and the excitement settled, you could see a disappointed look on your son’s face.
“What’s wrong baby?” You got up and crouched next to him.
“Was I not good?”
“What? Of course, you were very good. Why would you ask that?”
“I only asked for a puppy. Santa must have thought I wasn’t good enough for a puppy.”
You could see the tears forming in his eyes. It absolutely broke your heart, you looked over to Steve to see that he had the same feeling as you. You secretly pressed the button on the train remote, the train came to life. It came around the bottom of the tree, you pushed the button again to get it to stop in front of the tree. It made a “Choo, choo” sound when it stopped. There was a box in the back of the train. You grabbed it and called Lani over before handing it over to them, they opened it together.
“It’s collars.” Tom looked to Lani.
“Collars?”
They looked up at you, confused looks on their little faces. You pointed to the box next to the couch that was covered by a blanket.
“Open it.”
They got up and walked over to the box. Tom grabbed the blanket and pulled it back.
“A PUPPY!”
“A KITTEN!”
The sound of children screaming woke both animals. The puppy got excited seeing their faces, he jumped up and put his paws on the edge of the box. Steve picked him up out of the box placing him on the floor. Then he picked up the kitten and placed her in front of Lani. Both kids were excited for their new pets, it filled your heart with joy to see this.
“Okay guys, now that you have your pets you have to promise to help take care of them.”
“I will.” They said in unison.
“Good. Now there’s only one thing left to do.”
“What?” Lani looked up at Steve.
“You have to name them.”
“I wanna name mine Moose.” Tom said instantly
“That’s a cute name. What about you Lani, what are you going to name her?”
The look of concentration on her face was the most adorable face you had ever seen.
“Marie.” She said a few seconds later with the most confidence.
“Like from the AristoCats.”
“Yeah!”
“Okay, Moose and Marie, it is.”
“I think it’s time to get this place cleaned up and put your toys in your rooms.”
You pulled out the recycling bin for all of the paper and cardboard. Once all of it was cleaned up you helped the kids take their toys to their rooms. Steve was getting things set up in the kid’s rooms for each of the pets.
After all of that was done you went back downstairs to set everything up for breakfast. You had everything plated for them by the time they made it back downstairs. As they sat down, you went into the kitchen and started dealing with the turkey. Once again Steve was in the doorway, watching you for a few seconds before walking up behind you. he placed his hands over yours; he was able to convince you to stop and be with him and the kids for a little bit.
When they were all done, you went to clear the table, but Steve waved you off. So, you went into the kitchen and returned to working on the turkey and getting everything ready for later.
Once everyone was at your home, you were starting to feel the stress. Luckily, one of your best friends knows how to cook very well and offered to lend you a hand. You and Danny worked to get everything done and set out. As the night went on, everyone exchanged gifts and had a fun time, you even kissed Steve under the mistletoe. You loved spending time with your family and wouldn’t change it for anything.
December 31st- New Year’s Eve
You had gotten everything set up for your new year’s party. You had gotten pizza, chips, cookies, sodas, candy, cider, and many other things. You may have gone overboard, but you wanted to make sure that you covered everyone.
As the night grew closer to midnight, you could see that the kids were starting to crash. One by one they fell asleep. Even Moose and Marie were falling asleep in their arms. You and Steve took your kids and put them to bed. You went as far as to put Moose and Marie in their beds. You told Danny he could take Grace to the spare bedroom. You also told him that he and Grace are more than welcome to spend the night.
After the kids were in bed, the rest of you stayed up talking. You had the New Year’s special playing on the tv. Once it got to the ten second mark, everyone gathered together in the living room.
“5…” Everyone started counting down together.
“4…”
“3…”
“2…”
“1…”
January 1st – New Years
“HAPPY NEW YEAR!” Everyone yelled.
You turned to Steve, with a smile on your face.
“Happy New Year baby.”
“Happy New Year sweetheart.”
He placed his hands on the sides of your face, pulling you in for a kiss to start off the new year.

Fandom: 911, H50, SWAT
Pairings: Buddie, McDanno, platonic Deacon/Hondo
Fic summary:
When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him
Tags/warnings: first draft. NavySeal!Buck. Slow burn (look it took us 170k almost to get to the first kiss), first time, get together, set post tsunami/lawsuit era.

The nurse gives him a warm blanket to wrap around himself while he waits for someone to read his scan.  Eddie falls into a light doze and is woken several times by the orthopedist and then again by the nurse and neurosurgeon telling him that he’s cleared to leave sometime around five AM local time.
Each time he wakes, he reaches for Buck only to see the rigid line of his back through the tiny slit window in the door. Buck is never looking back at him, and Eddie knows he’s got his work cut out for him to knock whatever bullshit Buck’s been telling himself about Eddie being taken is his fault out of Buck’s thick skull.
But first, Eddie needs Buck to willingly be in the same room as him.
Danny Williams shows up at the time that Eddie is handed his discharge papers. Buck has disappeared in search of a wheelchair despite Eddie’s protests that he can walk out of the hospital. Eddie is irritable, hasn’t slept in what feels like ages, and wants a real shower.
“Danny Williams—I’m a lieutenant with 5-0, which I’m sure you know.”
“I have heard of you,” Eddie admits as he shakes Danny’s hand. “Any chance you can get me a shower so I don’t smell like roadkill left out in the heat for two days?”
“Sorry, no can do. We need everything on you for evidence and then pictures.”
“For trial?”
“Yes. Assuming we go that route,” Danny mutters the last part, but he hands Eddie a set of hospital scrubs and allows Eddie to change in private, leaving his clothes, including his boots, in a large paper bag. He won’t wear his boots without socks, and Danny has provided a set of flip-flops that are the right size.
“We’ll get you some regular clothes after the CSIs have their pictures, and you can use the showers at our headquarters. You signed the release, letting us use your records for the case?”
“Yeah. Where’s Buck? Did he have to go to LA for that wheelchair I don’t need?”
Danny snorts and smothers his laughter, ice-blue eyes dancing. “You give him a run for his money, don’t you?”
“I guess?”
Danny waves off Eddie’s confusion. “He saw me coming and hightailed it somewhere. He’ll be back once he’s talked himself into something possibly macho but extremely bullshit about you getting hurt.”
“It wasn’t his fault,” Eddie repeats yet again, scowling at Danny.
“That’s the attitude. Keep repeating it until he believes it. The kid is too much like Steve and needs to have his little brood session before you knock him straight. He was terrified for you, so let him have it now.”
“Okay…?”
“I’m sure you don’t need my lecture on the care and feeding of your Seal?”
“I know how to take care of Buck,” Eddie firmly states. He doesn’t need to be told anything to care for Buck as long as they’re talking to each other. If Buck keeps hiding from him, he might take an assist from Kono if she’s available, but he doesn’t know Danny, and McGarrett will probably be on Buck’s side in things and be unhelpful if he needs to pin his partner down.
“Again, I’m sure you do. Just remember he’s a bit tender about you being kidnapped.”
“How could I forget,” Eddie says, pointing to the bruising on his face. It didn’t hurt since he was given some Tylenol and ice, but it was pretty spectacular looking in the glance he’d gotten in a mirror.
Buck picks then to reappear with a wheelchair, and he pales at Eddie pointing to his bruises.
“Buck,” Eddie calls, stopping him from disappearing again. He may play it up a bit how stiff he feels when he stands and hobbles to the wheelchair, making Buck hover. Give Eddie a few hours in the sun, a shower, and a nap, and Eddie will be good as new and ready to sit on Buck if necessary to make him listen to what Eddie has to say.
“Let’s get the show on the road. The sooner we get your photo shoot done, the quicker we let you shower,” Danny reminds him as Buck pushes him out of the ER.

Miss Americana
Fandom : Crossover Hawaii Five-0 x Chicago PD TV Word count : 5,610 words Pairing : Steve McGarrett x Danny Williams; Jay Halstead x reader
Summary :  You met Williams-McGarrett family in Los Angeles and they introduced you to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Your boyfriend, Jay Halstead, doesn't know anything about this. Yet.
Author's note :
This is the fourth one shot of "Will you follow through if I fall for you" fic continuation. It would be better if you read it first. But if you don't, here's the quick summary.
This happened after I listened to a few podcasts (1  🞂  2  🞂 3) of Scott Caan and Alex O'Loughlin, passionately talking about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
This fic does not comply to the canon of Hawaii Five-0 or Chicago PD. So if you don't follow one of the other, it should not be a hindrance, I think. Here's hoping that I'm right.

"Would you like another cup of coffee?
You look up from the book in your hand to the waiter addressing you.
"Oh, I would love to. But it's already my fourth cup of the day," You grimace at him. "Maybe I'll take a bottle of water, please? Cold, if you have one."
The waiter grins at you, "Sure thing," then leave with your empty cup of coffee.
You are supposed to meet your friend, Tim, at his house on The Bird Streets to work on a song. However, he got a sudden appointment and asked you to wait for his call to reschedule. So here you are, sitting at a Cafe/Bistro somewhere in Los Angeles, drinking too much coffee.
You check your watch and your phone. It's almost lunchtime, but your phone is still showing nothing. Alright then, you thought to yourself, back to the book. Your eyes immediately find the last paragraph you read on Astrophysics for People in a Hurry.
Five pages later, the waiter puts a bottle of water on your table, "Here it is. You sure you don't want another cup of coffee?" He jokes with you.
You laugh in response, "No, really, thank you."
The waiter leaves with a smile and turns to the table across from yours. That's when you notice somebody's sitting there.
"Good afternoon. Only for two?" The waiter lays two menu cards on the table.
"Four. My husband and daughter are parking the car." The man answers him with a smile. He has a little boy sitting next to him. His son, you guess, since both of them have blond hair. Their noses look similar too.
"Danno, can I have ice cream for lunch?" The boy begs his father, pointing at one of the delightful pictures on the card.
"Hmm, maybe." The father hums his reply. He exchanges a knowing glance with the waiter.
"Do you want anything to drink while you're waiting?"
"Soda!" The boy yells from his chair, who laughs at his father's glare.
"How about two glasses of orange juice?" The father checks to his son before confirming it with the waitress.
"Okay, be right back with your drinks."
After the waiter leaves, the boy begins to prattle about everything to his father. About giraffes at the zoo ("They are so tall like Dad!"), about his favorite ice cream flavors ("Cookie Dough. But I like Kame's shave ice better, Danno"), about swimming at Venice Beach ("There's a lot of people there, Danno. I like our beach more")
The boy doesn't even look like he needs to breathe. You can't help but let out a chuckle. His father looks up at you and shares a grin. "That's great, Charlie," He comments to his son.
You let their conversation become a white noise while you read your book.
At your periphery, you see someone passes by. However, you don't expect a hand to suddenly sneak your phone from the table. Your hand instantly grabs that wrist, trying to stop it from stealing your phone. But the thief forcefully pulls his hand out of your reach and moves away.
Unfortunately for the thief, he runs straight to the father at your neighboring table. The man has no problem flipping the thief over and pushes him to their table. When the thief squirms away from his clutch, the man lifts the thief's elbow high up and turns it behind his back in a very painful lock. The unpleasant sound coming out of the thief's mouth proves how excruciating it is.
The man's eyes wander. Many shocked faces are staring at him, including yours. "It's okay, I'm a cop," He explains.
In contrast to the crowd, the boy looks at his father in awe, gleefully clapping his hands.
"Charlie, why are you clapping? You're not supposed to clap at this. Oh my god, you are just like your father! Happy to see any aggression," The man rants as he takes out a cable tie from his trousers' pocket. You don't even know why he got cable ties in his pocket. He efficiently ties the perp's hands behind his back and forces him to sit.
Only then, the man addresses the crowd again, "Has anyone called 9-1-1?"
"I did. The police are on the way," One of the cafe's staff squeaks from the door, with a phone still in her hand.
"Excellent! Did you hear that? Your ride would be here soon," The man tightly squeezes the thief's shoulders. The thief could only reply with an agonized grunt.
Everybody else resumes their activities with a sporadic look to their table.
The boy picks up the stolen phone from the floor. It fell near his foot during the short scuffle. "Danno," He hands your phone over to his father.
"Ah, thanks, Charlie," The man ruffles the kid's hair and kisses the top of his head.
"I believe this is yours?" The man returns the phone to you. "Hope it's still working?" He cringes at the spiderweb marks on the phone screen.
"Thanks. Probably not. But it's alright." You smile at the man and offer to shake his hand, "Y/N Y/LN, thanks again for helping me,"
The man takes your hand, "Hey, no big deal. Danny Williams. And this is my son, Charlie," Danny brings Charlie in front of him. You extend your hand to Charlie as well.
All of a sudden, you hear voices yelling from behind you. "Danno! Charlie!"
You look back to see a tall, dark, imposing man and a beautiful teenage girl rushing in your direction. Charlie shouts back at them, "Daddy! Gracie!"
So you guess they must be Danny's husband and daughter.
This new man drops down to Charlie's level and checks on him, trying to see if he's injured. "Are you okay? Charlie?"
"Dad! Dad! Danno was soooo cool! He pushing and then flipping and then that man went aaargh!" Charlie re-tells the scene to his father, holding his elbow behind his back to show him.
Couldn't really understand his son's story, the man asks his husband to elaborate, "Danny, what's happening here? Why are you arresting this man?"
"I'm not arresting anybody, Steve. We don't have jurisdiction to make an arrest, you know? Since we are in LA, not Hawaii? I'm just holding this man until LAPD shows up," Danny clarifies to his husband, Steve.
"But why?" Steve is still confused.
"This guy here, what's your name?" Danny barks at the thief. But his mouth stays glued. "Really? Would you prefer my ex-SEAL here asking you the question?" Danny gestures in Steve's direction.
Steve stands tall. His hands are folded in front of his chest. His biceps bulge in his tight t-shirt. The thief's face turns green, looking fearful. Steve's scowl was probably not helping either.
"Danny?? What's going on here?" Steve begins to lose his patience.
"What?? It's no big deal, babe!" Danny yells back at Steve. "This guy here tried to nick this woman's phone. I'm just helping her," Danny motions in your direction.
"Y/N, here's my husband, Steve McGarrett, and our daughter, Grace," Danny continues to introduce you to his family. You shake their hands and exchanging simple pleasantries.
"As I said, I just helped Y/N to get her phone back. Now we are waiting for LAPD," Danny ends his explanation.
Shortly a police car comes, and two officers quickly take their statements. Initially, the police officers are bemused to find the thief already sat with his hands tied behind his back. After Danny explains that he is a Detective from Honolulu PD and how he prevented the attempted theft, the police officers understand the situation. They ask if you'd like to press charges on Tom Norris, that's the thief's name according to his ID. Considering you're not hurt, you decline on pressing charges. The police are gone with the thief sooner than you expected.
"Can I treat you lunch for your trouble? Shoot! A super late lunch?" You corrected after checking your watch.
"Hey, don't worry, it's no trouble at all," Danny says to you with a big smile.
"No, no, seriously. You guys were on holiday, I guess. But still bothered to help me. Lunch is the least I can do."
Before long, they arrange to get a table for five and talk a lot during the meal.
◢◤
"So you guys are from Hawaii? That's nice!" You tell the family.
"See, Danno? That's what you're supposed to say about Hawaii. You're the only one who describes Hawaii as a pineapple-infested hell hole," laments Steve to his husband.
"I'm just telling the truth, babe. How about you, Y/N? Where are you from?" Danny tries to find out.
"Originally from The Netherlands, Amsterdam. But I moved to Chicago last year," You reply.
"Now that, Steve, is a city that would appreciate seasonal changes," Danny nods his approval of Chicago.
"Only you, Danno, who whines about constant sunshine." Steve grumbles.
Grace and Charlie don't react much to their parents' bickering. Too used to their silliness. But you still find it quite funny.
"So you guys are here for vacation?" You ask the family.
"Kind of. We are on holiday. Also, we are visiting the colleges here for Grace, who will graduate high school next year," Steve throws his right arm around Grace's shoulder.
"Yes, we are on an excursion to prove to Grace that LA universities are not better than the University of Hawaii," Danny quips from Steve's left.
Grace whines at his father, "Danno..."
"Danny here doesn't want his children to be far away from him," Steve enlightens you. "But I think going to school in LA would be better than The Netherlands. Wouldn't it, babe?" Steve winks at Grace.
"Do not joke about that, Steven!" Danny elbows his husband hard.
Grace looks thoughtful for a moment, "Y/N, did you go to college in the Netherlands? What do you think my chance to study there?"
"Gracie, can I come with you to This Otherlands?" Charlie innocently chirps to his sister.
Steve is laughing so loud, even after Danny punches his arm.
"What about you, Y/N? What are you doing in LA? Are you on vacation too?" Danny questions you after the laughter receded.
"I'm here for work. Most of the time, I'd do it remotely from Chicago. But sometimes I have to make the trip here or to Amsterdam," You tell them.
"What do you do?"
"I'm a music producer," You give a simple answer.
"What instruments do you play?" Steve is curious. "Guitar?"
"Mostly piano and synthesizer. I do play guitar, but I'm just an okay guitar player. I wish I could play better,"
"Dad plays guitar too!" Charlie happily declares as he points at Steve.
You cheer at Charlie's enthusiasm, "Does he? That's great!"
"Yeah, he plays very well. Maybe Dad can teach you to play better," Charlie directs you.
"Oh, yes, that would be awesome," You wholeheartedly agree with Charlie, as the rest of the table laughing at the idea of Steve teaches music.
◢◤
"Danny, I was wondering if you could explain something to me," You turn to the man.
"Shoot," Danny nods as he puts down his juice glass.
"The arm lock that you did to the thief. Where did you learn that? Did Steve teach you that?" You ask him, genuinely want to know.
"Well, even though Steve here was the Navy SEAL," Danny glares at his husband, who replies with a smirk, "I have been working as a cop for more than 20 years now. I know some moves too,"
"But that's not a cop's move," You contradict him.
"How do you know any cop's moves?" Danny confronts you back.
"My boyfriend is a cop in Chicago," You give Danny a sheepish smile.
"Ah, I see. Did your boyfriend teach you self-defense?"
"He did. I'm nowhere near good as Jay. But it's a start," You answer Danny.
"Of course. If he's not good at it, then he's not a good cop," Danny comments without sounding too arrogant.
"Jay also taught me about guns. Personally, I don't like it, but he needs me to know about it, especially gun safety. So..." You shrug.
Danny nods his understanding, "Yeah. Be glad that he doesn't bring home grenades or other explosives," Danny gives Steve a stink eye. "Unlike some Super!SEAL here,"
Steve is immune to that look. It doesn't seem to affect him anymore.
You smile at their interaction, "Jay was an Army Ranger. After he came back, he went to Police Academy,"
"Really?" Steve looks interested.
"Oh, here we go," Danny sighs at his husband.
Steve grins but decides not to comment on it any further. He goes praising Danny instead.
"But Danny is being too modest here. He is a great fighter. Sometimes he's even better than me. Which lots of people find it surprising, considering I was a SEAL,"
"and don't you forget it, babe," Danny smirks at Steve, who returns it with a chaste kiss.
You sigh internally. Looking at the lovely couple made you miss your boyfriend, Jay.
"In all seriousness," Danny begins, "I practiced Jiu-Jitsu since high school. That's where the moves come from," He pauses to sip on his drink.
"I got my Blue Belt when I entered The Police Academy. For me, I think, I learned how to fight better in Jiu-Jitsu than what they taught us there," Danny continues.
"Do you also teach it to Grace and Charlie?" You ask the parents.
"Yeah. Danny taught them both as early as possible. Grace already got her Yellow Belt when we first met. Now she is working for her Purple Belt," Steve brags. Danny also looks so proud. Grace, though, tries so hard not to roll her eyes at her parents.
"Me too! I will get my Yellow Belt soon! Right, Danno?" Charlie exclaims.
"Of course you are kiddo. After that, you surely can beat your Dad here," Danny ruffles Charlie's hair. Steve offers his palm for a high five, but Charlie punches it instead. He giggles when Steve is faking to be hurt by Charlie's tiny fist.
"Do you think I could learn it too?" You inquire to Danny.
Danny and Steve look at each other. You're waiting for their answer, hoping that they will agree.
Before they decide anything, Grace interrupts, "We can go check out the place that Sensei Egan told us, Danno."
"Yeah, that's a great idea," Steve agrees to his daughter's suggestion. "We can check that dojo for Grace, meeting the instructor. Maybe could show some moves too for y/n,"
"Okay then. Grace, share the dojo address with y/n. We can meet you there tomorrow morning, what do you say, y/n?" Danny asks you.
You're supposed to fly back to Chicago next afternoon, but what the hell, you are very interested in this offer. "Yes, sure. If you don't mind me crashing your holiday plan again?"
"No, not at all. We need to check out that place anyway." Steve waves off your worry.
Grace passes her phone to you. "You can puy your number there. I will forward you the address,"
You tap your number to Grace's phone before groaning when you remember that your phone is dead. "Could you e-mail me instead? I don't think I could replace my phone soon,"
Danny doesn't even try to hold his laugh at your poor luck.
◢◤
The next day, you take an Uber to the gym. No, it's The Dojo. You correct yourself. When you step in, Charlie is shouting at you from across the room. "Y/N!" Standing next to his sister, Charlie crazily waves at you, worried that you could not see him.
You remove your shoes, placed them accordingly at the remarked spot. Walking towards Charlie and Grace, you see the Williams-McGarrett clan wear similar outfits with other people in The Dojo. The only differences between them are their belts. Danny wears a Black Belt with a red stripe, while Steve wears a Brown Belt. Grace has Blue Belt, and Charlie has a White one. Knowing that you will do some workout, you wear a black t-shirt and training pants. Definitely a contrast in a room full of jiu-jitsu outfits.
Danny and Steve are talking to a guy on the other side of the room. This guy has a Black Belt with more stripes than Danny's, indicating that he is the instructor here.
"Hey, guys. Good morning," You greet Grace and Charlie. They reply with a big smile.
"Just out of interest, do you guys always bring your uniform on your holiday?" You gesture to Grace's clothes.
Grace laughs at your question, "It is called Gi. Yes, we are always bringing them along on holiday," She laughs again at your shocked face. "No, I'm joking. It's because we know we will visit this dojo, so we have our Gi with us,"
Soon Danny and Steve come over to your side. "Hi, y/n. So I talked to Sensei Marcus there," Danny gestures to the guy he spoke to. "We are going to follow their training for today. You can watch from the side if you're not sure you want to do it. The first hour would be the class for Kids and Teens,"
You see Grace and Charlie lining up in the center of the room with other children. They seem to be divided by belts instead of age.
"The next hour would be the adult class," Danny pauses for a moment. "If you want my suggestion, I encourage you to join the Teens class. I hope you don't feel insulted by that."
You chuckle at his words, "Not at all. I understand,"
"If it's too much, don't hesitate to stop and move aside. Everyone will understand," Steve adds.
You exhale softly, readying yourself, "Okay," before joining the line.
The first fifteen minutes, they start with stretching. So far, you have no problems with it. You practice Yoga for the last few years. You know how to stretch.
The next one, they teach you how to fall correctly. Which turns out to be a hard thing to do. At first, an instructor's assistant helps you. After a few moments, she moves away to help others. But you're still not doing it right. So Danny pulls you aside and teaches you privately for the rest of the hour.
You fall so many times until it tired you out. You cannot even get up from the mat. Your shoulders would have been bruised with so many times you landed incorrectly.
"Still interested to learn this?" Danny grabs your hand to help you get up.
Even though the lesson exhausts you, you feel great. You learn a lot, even from doing the same thing over and over again. "Hell yeah!" You grin at Danny.
"Crazy woman!" Danny pats your shoulders. Right where it hurts the most. You can't help but flinch away.
"Hurt, wasn't it? Why don't you go sit down on the outside of the mat with Charlie?"
Charlie sits on one side of the mat, a bottle of water in his hand. He is watching Grace, who has her hands on Steve's Gi, trying to throw Steve down.
Danny silently pays attention to his husband and daughter on the mat. But you can see his hands slightly move as if he's the one sparring.
Shortly, Grace has a chance to push Steve. Steve lost his balance for a moment before countering her attack. Grace would've fallen down hard if Steve didn't hanging to Grace's Gi so tight to slow her fall.
"That's great, Grace," Steve says to his daughter as he helps her up. They bow to each other to end the spar. Danny is clapping from outside the mat, "Good job, Monkey,"
Of course, you and Charlie follow Danny's example to cheer for Grace.
You still sit on the side of the mat, now also accompanied by Grace. You watch the next class practice, where Danny and Steve spar with other students for about an hour.
After the class is done, Steve taps on Danny's shoulder, "Danny, could you help me with this move?" He nods in the direction of the mat.
Danny responds with rolling eyes at his husband's antics.
Grace runs commentary in the background, "Dad didn't actually need help from Danno. However, you're not allowed to ask a higher belt to spar with. It's a sign of disrespect. But Dad and Danno often work differently between each other,"
You see Danny and Steve taking place at a ready position. It takes time before anybody falls, or one locks each other. They move fluidly. When one throws the other, they quickly bring them down along then keep them in a lock. The locks are soon countered, and they back up again. The great thing is they look like they enjoy sparring with each other. They share a laugh whenever someone throws the other or someone holds the other in a lock. You find that very interesting.
The sparring ends when Danny makes a grappling move that Steve cannot counter, so he has to tap out.
After the sparring, Steve sits back with you and his kids while Danny goes over to Sensei Marcus. Steve asks your opinion about Jiu-Jitsu, whether you're still interested to learn it.
"Very much, yeah. The first thing I will do once I'm back in Chicago is to find a Dojo," You excitedly tell Steve.
"Well, lucky for you, Sensei Marcus here knows a lot of Jiu-Jitsu instructors," All of a sudden, Danny joins your conversation. Sensei Marcus stands beside him.
"Sure, if you want to keep learning Jiu-Jitsu, I will give you some references of my fellows in Chicago," Marcus informs you.
"That would be awesome!"
Marcus shakes your hand, "Good luck!" and moves to shake hands with the rest of the Williams-McGarrett family. "Thanks for visiting our dojo. Please come again whenever you're in LA,"
They all look tired, but their smiles beam as bright as Hawaiian sunshine.
◢◤
Two weeks later, in Chicago,
You see your boyfriend's truck parked in front of your house as you walk home from the bus stop. You walk much slower than you used to. Your body is hurting all over the place, but you feel elated.
The day after you came home from Los Angeles, Jay was caught in a hard case. He had to fly out to New York and liaised with NYPD SVU to solve it.
You missed him a lot, for sure. Jay called you whenever he could for these past two weeks. Texted you every day too. But you have not got the chance to tell Jay about your new interest in Jiu-Jitsu.
After your last trip to LA, you promptly checked out the Dojo that Sensei Marcus referred to you. You were thrilled to find out that it's only fifteen minutes bus ride from your house.
You met with one of the instructors there and asked for a private class. Because that's what Danny advised you to do. "After you have a better understanding of the lessons, then I want you to go train with other people at the dojo. But for the first five or six months, you might've been better with one-on-one lessons,"
The instructor, Professor Louisa, is delighted to provide. You work on a schedule three to four times a week. The professor initially suggested only two meets in a week. But considering your occasional trip abroad for work, you prefer to do more lessons when you're in town.
This is the third week you've been learning jiu-jitsu in Chicago. Scraps and bruises are inevitable. Jay would freak out if he saw them before you could explain to him.
Jay's flight back from New York landed about two hours ago. He must've been coming directly to your place from the O'Hare. The house smells amazing when you enter the room. Following your nose leads you to the kitchen. You find your boyfriend pulling out what seems to be garlic bread from the oven, "Hey, babe. You're back!"
"Hey, you! Perfect timing!" Jay secures the tray aside before stepping closer to you. He puts one hand on your waist, the other one on your back. Moving even closer to kiss you.
His passion makes you forget your bruises for a moment. When Jay pushes you playfully, your shoulder hits the nearest wall. You instantly cry out in pain. "Argh!"
"What's wrong?" Jay stops everything he's doing to you right away.
"Nothing, I just got some bruises," You rub the pain from your shoulder.
"How come?" Jay begins to take off your t-shirt to check on the bruises, but you move away from his grasp.
"Hold on. Let me take a shower. I must've been rank from sweat. Then I'll tell you everything," You kiss Jay one more time before going to the bedroom.
As you eat the pasta primavera that Jay made, you ask him about his case in New York, "How was it?"
"It's done. We did what we have to do,"
Not interested in talking about his case, Jay interrogates you instead, "So, where did you get the bruise? I swear, I only left the city for two weeks, and you're already in trouble," Jay shakes his head.
"I'm not! I just joined this gym. Dojo, I meant. I'm taking Jiu-Jitsu lessons!" You cheerfully tell Jay.
"You what?" Jay pauses from drinking his wine.
So you told Jay the whole story. About how someone tried to snatch your phone when you're in LA. How you met the Williams-McGarrett family from Hawaii. How they got you into jiu-jitsu.
"It's so fun, Jay. Yeah, sure, I got bruises and scraps. But whenever I got stuck with my work, I go have a practice at the dojo, and then I come home feeling energized," You confess to your boyfriend.
"Really?" Jay looks at you, disbelieving.
"Uhuh," You nod as you swallow your spaghetti. "You know what, you should come and see the dojo. It might interest you too,"
"I know about martial arts, babe. I taught you how to punch, remember?" Jay reminds you.
"Yes, you did," You say in giggles, "Professor Louisa said she won't teach me how to punch,"
"Of course, Jiu-jitsu has a different approach than other martial art, say karate. Or boxing," Jay puts down his fork on the empty plate. "You sure you enjoy it?"
You hold Jay's hand and look into his eyes, "I am. This is something I want to do seriously, Jay. I admit part of it comes from you and your job. Like you always said, I need to be able to defend myself. Because you think I could get drag into your case one day,"
Jay puts his other hand on top of yours, looking somehow regretful, "Babe..."
"No, no. But I also do this for myself. Even though my body hurts, I feel great about myself. I feel more confident. It's really inspiring,"
Jay brings your hand to his lips, "Okay then, as long as you're happy with it. But I'm still going to take you to the gun range,"
You roll your eyes in response, "Of course, you will,"
◢◤
A week later, Jay walks up to The Dojo on the second floor. Someone greets him at the entrance, "Hey, man. Can I help you?"
"I suppose to pick up my girlfriend. She is training with..." Jay tries to remember the instructor's name. "Louisa?"
"Ah, yes, Professor Louisa. You must be y/n's boyfriend. I'm Professor Andy, the head of this dojo," The man offers his hand.
"Jay Halstead," Jay shakes Andy's hand.
"I think she will finish in ten minutes. You wanna see her practice?"
"Sure. If it would not be disturbing?" Jay hesitates.
"Not at all. Y/n is the only one in there right now," Andy directs Jay inside the dojo. He asks Jay to remove his shoes before stepping into the room.
Jay watches his girlfriend silently. He winces a couple times when you fall down. But he is amazed to see you immediately stand up again.
"She's resilient, your woman is,"
Jay chuckles at Andy's remark, "Yes, she is,"
Shortly after you bow to your instructor, you see Jay standing on the side with Professor Andy.
You walk towards them with a smile, "I see you met my boyfriend, Prof,"
"I did, yeah," Andy nods. "I don't think Jay would be interested in jiu-jitsu, though," He comments.
"Correction, I'm not interested to see you got thrown down repeatedly," Jay points out.
"Hey!" You hit Jay's arms as both Professors laugh at you.
"But that's how we are supposed to learn. If you don't know how to fall, you won't get back up again," Louisa says serenely.
Andy hums his agreement before ushering you out. "Alright, get out of here, you lovebird,"
When you're in the locker room, changing your Gi, Jay approaches Andy again. But before Jay could say anything, Andy hands a leaflet to him.
"Y/N told me you're a police officer. You might be interested in these classes,"
Jay takes it with a laugh, "Thanks, man. I'll check it out," He puts the leaflet on his jacket pocket and pulls out his card.
"If anything happens when Y/N is here. Or if you need anything I can help with, please give me a call," Jay sounds solemn.
Andy takes the card, "Don't worry, man. We take good care of our students here,"
"I know," Jay nods.
Soon you come out with a gym bag on your shoulder. "See you next week, Prof!"
Andy waves to the couple, "Bye, y/n. See you again, Jay!"
◢◤
Two years later,
You step out of the record store in Pilsen empty-handed, failing to find the vinyl you're looking for. You start walking west to the bus stop when you hear a commotion ahead.
You see a guy pushing people out of his way. He keeps looking behind his back like he's running from something.
"Police! Get out of the way!" You hear other voices shouting.
So this guy seems to be running from the police, you thought to yourself.
The man tries to shove you aside, but your reflex is much better. Your hands instantly grab the front of his shirt. When he tries to push you away, your right foot finds his inner left calf and sweeps him down.
When he tries to move away from your grasp, you lean down and grip his right wrist tightly with your right hand. You put your right elbow beside his right ear while your left elbow is placed underneath his elbow. Your left-hand moves to hold your right wrist from below his right hand. His arm is essentially locked when your left bicep snugs against his right tricep. You raise your elbow slightly from the surface. The more he wiggles his way out, the higher you raise his elbow from the surface, the more painful the lock is.
You hear an impressed whistle from above. When you look up, you find Jay and Hailey standing in front of you. Jay gets a huge grin on his face while Hailey is sporting a shocked look.
"Nice takedown, babe," Jay compliments you.
"Thanks. You might wanna take over from here, though," You say to your boyfriend as you hear few more steps rushing towards you.
You loosen the lock after you are sure Jay gets his hand on the perp. He grabs the suspect up from the floor and pushes him towards the wall.
You find a hand extends in front of your face, offering to help you stand up. You look up to see it was Hailey. You take her hand with a soft thanks.
Once you're back on your feet, you look around to see the other members of the Intelligence Unit staring at you. Adam, Kim, and Kevin are mirroring Hailey's initial look of surprise. Jay's boss, Hank Voight, looks impassive as always. But you catch an amused twitch at one corner of his lips.
"Man, at least give me time to feel my hand again! That bitch could break my arm, you know!" you hear the perp complaining when Jay prepares to cuff him.
Without saying anything in response, Jay folds the perp's wrist inside. The perp yells even louder because of the wristlock.
Kevin moves to take the man away from Jay before any further damage could happen. He ushers the perp right away to a nearby cop car.
Jay turns to check on his girlfriend, "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good." You nod back at him.
"I didn't know you could do that, Y/N," Hailey tells you. "You never tell me that your girlfriend practiced any martial arts," She continues to slap Jay's shoulder.
You answer with a sheepish smile, "It's kinda new,"
"Blue Belt in Jiu-Jitsu is not "kinda new" babe," Jay elbows you playfully.
The team boss pats your shoulder once before walking back to his car, "Good job, Y/LN,"
Kim, who's partnered up with Voight today, quickly follows. But not before inviting you for drinks, "You have to tell me all about this over drinks!"
"See? Even Voight agrees. We'll make a cop-out of you soon, Y/N," Adam offers his fistbump to you.
You meet his with your fistbump but shake your head, laughing, "Not in a million years, Ruzek,"
He only replies with his laugh and walks towards Kevin and the perp.
Jay puts his arm around your shoulders with a huge smile, "C'mon, Kev and Ruz can take care of the perp for a while. Hailey and I will drop you home."

My books from lulu.com have safely arrived. They are huge, like phone books from ancient times😁! I love them so much! My two longest, most precious fanfictions in book form. It’s amazing!

Fanfiction writers are rebels. We bring the good stuff. We write awesome shit. We’re rough and wild. We don’t back down from anything. We conjure up worlds many have no ideas they even exist. We’re the cool kids. We buck the trend. We ship with so much passion it creates a damn fire. Our stories suck people in to never let them go. That’s freaking talent. Fanfiction writers are badass. We emanate the vibe that comes with inner freedom to write twenty fucking coffee shop AUs because we crave them for our OTP. We get what drives us. We speak a secret language. Either you’re in or you’re out. There’s nothing in between. We’re rock solid. We write what we love. Fanfiction writers are damn awesome writers! Don’t you ever believe anything else! We’re rebels!

Waiting ends here, guys! The first chapter is up. The last part of my long journey has begun. I can’t tell you how excited I am to let Steve and Danny find the way back to each other.
My Soul Is Calling You Home
Summary
After that fateful summer of 1993 nothing stayed the same. Both, Steve and Danny, had tried to move on. Danny made a living as a cop working with the NWPD, taking care of his family. Steve served in the Navy as the outstanding SEAL he had become. The deep emotional trauma the guys had lived through, getting separated, had marked their hearts with unhealed wounds. Despite the life they had built apart from each other it was fate that made them move back to Hawai'i. They would meet again after all those years. Their souls were calling them home by a love bigger than life with no chance to ever shake it off. At their second first meeting, Danny and Steve were grown men with years of life apart from each other. Love is a sacred being, it never lets go of those who belong together.
This story is the sequel to my High School AU 'Eyes As Blue As The Ocean'.

For a lot, Buck only hang out with the fire fam, so he must not have friends outside of it. That's a misconception. He does have friends; they just don't live/are not in LA or in America all together. What happes when they all decided to come for his birthday ? (He have big named friends; CIA/FBI/SEALs and others are totally surprising) it seems that Buck had many secrets. Thanks !

With Friends Like These
It wasn’t like Buck didn’t have friends outside the fire fam...he did, really! He just didn’t get to see them as often. Some were on missions, some lived in other states or countries. So, it wasn’t like he didn’t have other people to talk to-which is why he didn’t go completely insane when he couldn’t talk to the firefighters he called family during the lawsuit. He kept in touch with them, he just never mentioned them to the others because they didn’t know them and it didn’t seem to matter.
Hen once asked who Buck had outside of the fire family and, well, the truth was, he had quite a few people to talk to outside the other firefighters. He had Maddie, obviously, but he also had Steve McGarrett-former Navy SEAL turned special police in Hawaii, Danny Williams-also special police in Hawaii, Spencer Reid-BAU Agent for the FBI, Derek Morgan-BAU Agent for the FBI, TK Strand-Firefighter originally from New York but based in Austin, Marjan Marwani-Firefighter originally from Miami but transferred to Austin, Jason Hayes-current Navy SEAL, Leon Vance-Director of NCIS, and Tim McGee-NCIS Agent.
So it wasn’t that Buck didn’t have friends outside the firefighters he served with, it was just that they didn’t share the same airspace. As twenty-eighth birthday started to roll around, Buck was expecting some texts or cards from his friends in other places and to spend some time with his friends in LA, preferably spending time with Chris and Eddie-they would make for the best birthday. They were family. That isn’t to say all of his friends weren’t his family, because they were, it’s just...Eddie and Chris felt like home.
The plan was that Buck would spend 12 hours of his birthday with his crew, going out on calls, then they would all have the next two days off. Buck would be spending the immediate rest of his birthday with Eddie and Chris binging a few movies and eating junk food. The next day, they would all show up to Athena and Bobby’s for a proper birthday party with amazing food. After that, he wasn’t sure what was going to happen...hopefully more time with Eddie and Chris...maybe some time with his sister.
The first six hours of his shift went swimmingly well on his birthday. Nothing too bad happened and the most he’d had to do was help extinguish a fire and pull a pair of dice from a kid’s nose. The shift was pretty quiet, which was somewhat of a relief. He hadn’t gotten the best sleep the night before, having some residual nightmares after the trauma he’d been through with the whole truck bombing, embolism, and tsunami.
Buck was dozing on the sofa in the loft while his crew chatted around him when he heard an all too familiar laugh. “Isn’t there some sort of rule for working on your birthday, Scrap,” McGarrett called.
Buck was up in the next two seconds, a confused look on his face. “Smooth Dog, what the hell? Aren’t you supposed to be in Hawaii, throwing people off your islands?”
“Touche,” the man smirked. “But, I haven’t seen you in person in a couple of years, so I’m letting Junior throw people off the island for a few days.”
“Wait, if Junior’s throwing them off the island, where’s Danno?”
“He’s in the car talking to Gracie before she goes off to a sleepover. You know how he is.”
“I hope you’re not trying to bash me for talking to my daughter at a reasonable time of day when I know I won’t be disturbing her sleep or social interactions,” Danny called as he climbed up the steps. “We tried your apartment first, but you didn’t answer, so we came here because, like this Neanderthal,” Danny pointed to Steve, “you never know when to take a day off.”
“I take offense to that on both of our behalves,” Buck chuckled. A throat cleared behind Buck and he turned slightly, having forgotten that he, Danny, and Steve weren’t the only ones in the room. “Oh, right, sorry. Guys, this is Steve McGarrett and Danny Williams both long time friends of mine. Steve, Danny this is my crew, Eddie Diaz, Hen Wilson, Howie Han-but everyone calls him Chim, and Bobby Nash-my Captain.”
“Nice to meet you guys. Buck said you were from Hawaii,” Bobby asked as he stepped forward to shake hands with the men.
“Well, he’s a native of that Pineapple infested hellhole, but I hail from Jersey though I do now live in that pineapple infested hellhole that everyone seems to think is the best ‘paradise’ in the world,” Danny rolled his eyes.
Buck stifled his laugh, turning it into a cough, “still hasn’t grown on you, has it Danno,” he asked. The look he got in return caused him to break, letting out a loud laugh.
“So if you don’t like Hawaii, why did you move there,” Chim asked, a small smile on his face.
“My ex-wife decided to move with my daughter to that Godforsaken island and I wasn’t about to let my daughter grow up without her father around.”
“And the Great state of Hawaii thanks you for following your daughter,” Steve replied solemnly.
“It’s not too late for me to put in a transfer to not work with your ass any longer, McGarrett.”
“But you love my ass,” Steve turned to Danny with raised eyebrows.
Danny rolled his eyes before looking back to Buck. “Anyway, we just got off our flight and came to see you. I see you haven’t gotten any prettier since we last saw you, so that’s a disappointment.”
Buck mock gasped, “excuse me, I think you’re speaking for yourself...oh, wait, no. I’m sorry, I was mistaken. It seems you’ve gotten even uglier since I last saw you Danno.”
“You’re a real ass, Buckley.”
“Oh, but you love my ass Danno,” Buck imitated Steve’s voice.
Danny rolled his eyes even harder at that, “I hate both of you.” He turned to Bobby, “can we steal him? We wanted to take him out to dinner for his birthday.”
Bobby looked at the time. “We’ve been pretty slow today on calls. But considering that you still have five hours left, I’m not sure if I could let you go, Buck. Let me try and call a temp in.”
Before Bobby could get three steps away, the alarm blared to life. “We’ll sort it out after the call,” he stated to the two men before racing down the steps.
Buck quickly hugged the men, “if not, we can go out after shift, yeah?” Then he was bounding down the steps and getting into the rig.
______________
Three Hours Later
The call had went as well as could be expected. Buck ended up looking like a drowned rat after having to perform a last second water rescue when the car they’d been trying to evacuate victims from slid off the cliff and into the ocean. Buck tried not to think about how it felt so similar to the tsunami, but by the way Eddie’s hand hadn’t left his leg, he knew that he wasn’t coming off as blase as he had been trying to.
Buck immediately headed off to the showers to warm up, not even noticing the gathering of people in the loft. Bobby was the first up to the loft and stopped short once he reached the top. “Can I help you,” he looked to the unfamiliar faces.
“We’re waiting for Buck,” a gruff man stated.
“Excuse him, he didn’t learn any manners in SEAL school. That’s Jason Hayes. I’m TK Strand, firefighter from Austin, Texas,” a young man, who Bobby thought looked somewhat like a younger Buck with the mirth that he could see in his eyes, called.
“Marjan Marwani, also a firefighter from Austin. It seems like we all had the same idea to come up and visit Buck for his birthday.”
“Aren’t you the firefighter with that viral water rescue video from Miami,” Bobby asked.
“One and the same,” she smirked.
Slowly, more of the 118 entered the loft. The introductions were made again and they lulled into a silence again. It was a shock to the team, Buck had never talked about these people before. Did he not trust them?
“You know, I don’t like it when you guys go all quiet, it’s creepy and makes me think that you’re planning something that will end in myself or my jeep needing a deep cleaning,” Buck called up to the loft as he made his way to the stairs. There was something in his tone of voice that darkened the levity of the statement. Immediately Steve and Jason were on alert. Buck sounded down.
Buck barely noticed the new additions to the loft as he walked over to the sofa and plopped down on it, rubbing his face slightly before looking over to the sofa and seeing Hen giving him a pointed look. “What did I do now? I swear I followed protocol once the car slipped over the cliff.”
Hen chuckled but rolled her eyes, “more of your friends are here and you didn’t notice.”
Buck looked at her in confusion before he slowly turned in his seat to see Jason. “Dude, why didn’t you say anything?”
“Clearly you haven’t practiced your skills enough in the past few months,” he raised an eyebrow as a slow smile broke across his face. “Then again, maybe I’m just that good.”
“You’re an asshole,” Buck deadpanned.
“Nah, I’m your favorite out of this lot,” he smirked.
“Absolutely not, I’ve known Buck since middle school, no one but myself is his favorite,” TK scoffed.
“Ty! Marj! Man, have I missed you guys,” Buck got up quickly and hugged the two firefighters. “How’s Police Hottie,” Buck smirked.
“He’s good...he’s great,” TK got a dazed look in his eyes.
Buck rolled his eyes and slightly shoved the man’s shoulder. “Okay loverboy, we get it.”
A defiant look took over TK’s face. “How are you and-”
“My apartment? We’re fine. She’s always there and we have our ups and downs, but we get along.”
Jason snorted at that and patted Buck on the back. “Right. Okay. Can we go out to dinner now? I’m starved, I flew here from Europe without food.”
“Uh, I still have two hours left in my shift and there’s really no reason to call in a temp to work the last hour.”
Bobby cleared his throat, gaining Buck’s attention. “I think we’ll be fine for the remainder of shift. Consider this a birthday present?”
“Thanks Cap,” Buck smiled, throwing his arms around the man in a tight hug.
Bobby laughed, hugging him just as tightly. “Alright, get out of here. I’ll see you tomorrow at eleven for your birthday lunch.”
“Sure thing Bobby!”
Before he could make it to the steps, a hand was on his shoulder. He was met with Eddie’s furrowed brow when he turned. “Are you still coming over tonight to watch movies with Chris and I, or should we postpone until tomorrow,” he asked, eyes unreadable.
“Shit,” he mumbled quietly. He hadn’t thought about that. He’d totally forgotten about his plans with Eddie and Chris. “I just-I haven’t seen some of them in person in years, Eds...I didn’t know they were coming to LA...I thought maybe a few phone calls and cards would be the extent of the celebration with them.”
Eddie gave him a tight smile, “it’s fine. We’ll reschedule. Hang out with your friends.”
“Eddie,” Buck sighed as the man started to turn away. “I’m sorry I-”
“Buck, it’s fine. Like you said, you haven’t seen some of them in years. You see Chris and I almost every single day. Spend some time with your friends.”
When Eddie turned and retreated, a frown placed itself on his face. He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it as he looked away from Eddie’s retreating form and turned back to the stairs. He was met with a knowing look from TK and Danny while the others were already on the Bay floor and heading for the cars. He walked over to the two men, both patting his back as they walked down the stairs. “Should I assume you’re all inviting yourself to my birthday lunch tomorrow?”
“There’s no way you could stop Steven or Jason from crashing the lunch,” Danny laughed.
“I know...I just have to let Athena know...or she’ll kill me.”
______________
Dinner
Buck slowly pushed his food around the plate, occasionally taking a bite. He couldn’t stop thinking about Eddie’s face and his reaction to Buck having forgotten about their plans. It wasn’t like he meant to...between the water rescue dredging up old trauma and seeing his friends for the first time in a while, he was allowed to have a moment of forgetfulness.
A hand on his shoulder pulled him out of his thoughts as he looked to his left. “You okay,” TK asked quietly as Jason and McGarrett went back and forth on who’s SEAL team was better.
Buck forced a smile and nodded, “yeah, yeah. Just...a lot on the mind tonight.”
Marjan leaned around TK and gave him a small smile, “do you want to talk about it? If it’s enough to have you miss joking around with those two clowns,” she motioned to the two SEALS, “then I’d say it would be important to air it all out.”
By this time, unless there had been another call before the shift ended, he would have been walking out with Eddie with plans on picking up the pizzas and heading over to the Diaz house. “I don’t want to bring the mood down...it’s supposed to be a happy celebration,” Buck finally responded.
“Y’know Scrap, we’re here for you, it doesn’t have to be all sunshine and happiness. If there’s things you need to talk about, we’ll listen,” Jason gave a small smile.
Buck ducked his head, taking in a deep breath. “I just,” he shook his head and sighed. “I’m happy you’re here,” he stated quietly, “really, I am. I’ve missed getting together with you guys and-and you know how much I care about you all, it’s just-I’m not in-in the mood tonight, I guess...the last call…” he trailed off, staring at his plate, “the last call dragged up some memories and I was supposed to go over to Eddie’s for a movie night with him and Chris and he looked so put out when I forgot and I-I…”
“Hey,” Danny placed a comforting hand on Buck’s other shoulder. “It’s okay to not be in the mood. Shit happens. We all have a few days before we have to head out, we can hang out another time. As for Eddie and Chris, there’s still time to go by and see them. It’s only six o’clock now.”
“And if you want to talk about what the call dredged up for you, we’re here for that too,” Steve tacked on.
Buck ran his hands over his face with a long sigh, “it’s just my brain being stupid, Steve.”
“Don’t do that. The brain may be stupid, but it’s from a place of hurt that you need to deal with,” TK gave him a small smile.
Out of everyone, he knew they all understood what it was like, having memories to haunt you even years after the event happened. He knew out of each of these people, TK understood most of all the pain of what he was going through. They’d had talks about it ever since the tsunami and even before that. “I have dealt with it,” Buck stated, not daring to look into any of their eyes.
“Your stance doesn’t give me the confidence that you’ve dealt with it,” Jason called.
“Fuck off,” Buck responded, “have you dealt with your wife leaving you yet?”
The angry look that crossed Jason’s face was Buck’s answer...and he felt horrible for bringing it up...but he didn’t want to talk and them pushing was making his fight or flight kick in. His anxiety was growing and he needed to get out of here.
“Okay, let’s take a moment to cool down,” Marjan placated. “If Buck doesn’t want to talk, we aren’t going to force him and if you don’t like the topic just let us know without trying to pick a fight, Evan.”
Buck sucked in a breath and nodded, “I’m sorry, that was uncalled for.” He met Jason’s eyes where he could see the man forgave him.
“Water under the bridge, Brother.”
Something must have shown on his face as he looked away quickly. It was stupid that little phrases could trigger him and cause him to relive something that he’d already come to terms with. “Breathe,” Danny called from his right. “You don’t have to talk, you don’t have to do anything else, but I need you to breathe.”
“I think we should avoid the topic of aterway,” TK whispered.
Buck let out a shaky laugh, “I’m in the middle of an anxiety attack, but I still know what aterway means.”
______________
The Next Day
Buck took a deep breath as he exited his Jeep. He could already see the rentals parked on the street meaning he hadn’t made it to Athena’s before his rowdy lot of friends had. Judging by the other cars that littered the street, he was officially the last person to arrive. He’d blame that on the fact that he’d completely forgotten to set his alarm after the emotionally taxing night he’d had. After his anxiety attack in the middle of the restaurant, Buck had given in and told them about the call which made him talk about the similarities to the tsunami which led him to talking about losing Chris which led him to talking about how he felt like he’d betrayed Eddie and Christopher by forgetting their plans and hanging out with his other friends. After all that, he just simply didn’t have the brain cells to set his alarm for the next morning and the effect of the night had him sleeping later into the morning than he had planned to.
He quickly walked up the drive and knocked on the door. A few seconds later, Bobby opened the door with a smile, “Buck! Nice of you to join us,” he joked.
Buck gave a small laugh as he walked in, “sorry, I forgot to set my alarm.”
Bobby waved his apology off, “don’t worry, we’ve had entertainment in the form of your sister and your friends reuniting.”
Buck rolled his eyes as they walked towards all the other voices. The first thing he saw was Maddie’s head tilting back in laughter as TK was crouched in front of her baby bump, seeming to talk to it. Chimney was looking mildly affronted at the scene while the others were in their own little conversations.
“Bucky,” Chris shouted from his spot next to Denny, quickly making his way over to Buck.
A genuine smile made its way to his face as he picked the little man up and swung him around, mindful of the boy’s crutches. “Superman! I’m sorry about last night,” he stated, genuinely worried Christopher would be mad at him for it.
“It’s okay, Kid,” Chris stated, “Marjan apologized already for stealing you...but I understand.”
God, Buck loved this kid. Absolutely loved him. The room had quietened considerably, though he wasn’t particularly ready to see the looks any of his friends gave him. Setting Christopher down again, he turned to greet his sister, placing a hand on her bump and saying hello to his future niece or nephew. Then, his eyes trailed across the room in search of his best friend. Not seeing him, Buck frowned.
A heavy hand landed on Buck’s shoulder and he turned to see Steve. “Your boy’s in the kitchen helping Athena,” he stated.
“I hope he’s not cooking...the man’s a disaster in the kitchen,” Buck easily replied.
“Hey, I’m not totally helpless,” Eddie called as he exited the kitchen and made his way to Buck.
“Your pancakes taste like burned cardboard,” Chris supplied before falling into a fit of giggles as Buck snickered.
“And you managed to burn water,” Buck tacked on.
“You also almost set the firehouse kitchen on fire,” Chim smirked.
Buck rolled his eyes at Chim, “but that doesn’t even beat Eddie being able to burn water,” Buck fell into an uncontrollable laugh as Eddie hit him with the towel he’d brought with him from the kitchen.
“I don’t know why I’m friends with any of you.”
______________
The kids were playing in the yard after the food had been demolished and the adults were sat around the living room and outside chatting with one another. Buck couldn’t believe how well his two groups of friends were getting along...well, he could believe. They were all good people, obviously they were all friends with Buck, but he had never thought any of them would meet. His out of state friends rarely had time off and it wasn’t like the whole 118 would vacation with one another to go meet more of Buck’s friends.
The cushion beside him sunk as a familiar body pressed against his. He didn’t have to look to know it was Eddie. “So...how do you know them?”
Buck turned slightly to look at Eddie, a smile on his face. “Well, I met TK when we were in middle school. My parents had moved to New York for a stint and Maddie was in college there. When my parents moved back to Hershey, I wanted to stay in New York because, honest to God, TK was my best friend, no one had ever connected to me like that before. I worked everything out with Maddie to stay with her while she was in college and then while she was interning at a hospital. I finished my high school education with TK and then we went down separate paths, but we stayed in touch.”
“I met Steve and Jason next. They were both drill instructors for the SEALS at the time.”
“You trained for the SEALs,” Eddie interrupted.
Buck gave him a small smile and nodded. “I was fresh out of high school and knew I wanted to do something to change the world or help people in some way. TK was going to the fire academy in New York and while that was tempting, I felt like I was being called to something...bigger? I don’t really know, but I went through SEAL training...that’s why Jason and Steve call me Scrap. At the time I enlisted, I was a little on the scrawny/lanky side but I didn’t do anything halfway. I was top tier with the heavy hitters there. I fought and fought to prove that I could be a SEAL and...well, I aced it. It was hard, but I got through it and spent a few years in the SEALs before getting out and traveling South America.”
Buck nodded to Marjan, “South America is where I met Marjan. She was on a vacation and I was bartending for money. We hit it off and enjoyed each other’s presence. Spent a few of my days off taking her to the cool places that weren’t on tourist attraction lists and we kept in touch. After South America, I went to Hawaii to see Steve and met Danny. Let me tell you, their partnership was explosive from the start.” Buck chuckled, as he watched the two bicker back and forth while Maddie laughed at them. “Literally, the first day they met, they had guns pointed at each other. Let me preface that with saying that Danny is a detective and Steve, obviously, was a SEAL. I was going to Hawaii to attend Steve’s dad’s funeral. He used to talk a lot about his father on missions so I felt like I knew the man and I wanted to help Steve through a rough time. Danny and I immediately became fast friends, though at the very start he was very against hanging out with another SEAL considering all the stress Steve put him through while working to find his father’s killer.”
Buck turned back to look at Eddie, seeing a fond smile on his face. “Jason, well, he called whenever he needed help. I met his, then, wife and both of his children-and his children love me, let’s just get that out of the way...he ended up having some problems with his wife. I was in Virginia Beach at the time trying to figure out what to do with my life. He needed a place to stay until he could work things out. He introduced me to a man who helped me to try and become an agent for the military to investigate crimes by the military or done to the military. It wasn’t really me, but I met a couple of people there that became close friends as well. Jason made up with his wife and went back to live with her and I came out to LA to see if there was anything I could find out here to do. We all just stayed really close. They met Maddie and Maddie loved them immediately. We’ve had a few get togethers for my birthday, usually when I was on the East Coast and they all met each other and we formed a little family. It was nice…” Buck trailed off, stuck in memories of the past.
Eddie’s hand landing on his knee brought him out of his thoughts. “I hope you don’t think I hid them from you or anything...it just never came up and I wouldn’t have even known where to start this conversation if it weren’t for them being here.”
Eddie gave him a soft smile. “I understand. I don’t talk about my buddies from the army or back home, but that doesn’t mean that I’m hiding them. I wasn’t mad or upset last night. I understand what it’s like to have not seen someone in years and want to hang out with them in the moment. I think I was more confused on who they were at the time. I’m glad you’ve got them.”
Buck returned Eddie’s smile, “but you want to know a secret?”
There was a glint in Buck’s eyes that had Eddie’s smile widening. “Depends, is it a good secret?”
“The very best secret.”
“Well then, I guess you’ll just have to tell me.”
Buck leaned a little closer, their faces only inches apart. “Those guys don’t compare to having you and Christopher as my support system.”
Eddie studied Buck as best he could from how close they were. The smile on his face grew even more. “And you think that’s a secret,” he teased.
Buck gasped, not moving back but Eddie could feel the hand he put on his chest in mock offense. “My best guarded secret and you tease me about it?”
Before Eddie could respond, a loud groan was heard. “Come on, you’re making me miss my boyfriend. Get a room. I don’t want to see the heart eyes anymore when I can’t give heart eyes to my own hottie,” TK called.
Buck rose an eyebrow at Eddie before turning his head slightly to look at TK. “You can give me heart eyes, Strand, you know you want to...I’m a catch.”
Eddie could see TK throw something towards Buck, but Eddie didn’t pay attention to that, moving his arms to circle Buck’s body as he responded. “Not allowed, you’re my catch. I am the only one allowed to give you heart eyes.”
Buck floundered in his grip as he turned back to look at him. “What?”
Eddie gave an exaggerated eye roll, but his smile didn’t diminish. “Come on, Navy SEAL, don’t tell me you didn’t catch that,” Jason butted in.
Eddie actually rolled his eyes at the man before returning his gaze to Buck who’s mouth had slowly fallen open. “You were right, you’re a catch...and I’d be a pretty horrible person if I let you slip out of my grip...even for a guy as nice as TK.”
Buck seemed to be working out connections in his head as he stared at Eddie like it was the first time seeing him. Buck’s mouth opened and closed as he tried to get his words right. Blurting the most prominent thought in his head, he could feel his cheeks redden, “I love you.”
Buck groaned this time, covering his face with his hands, “can we forget I said that? Shit, I didn’t-I was just-it was-fuck.”
Slowly, Eddie pried his hands from his face. “Evan,” he all but whispered, just for them to hear, “if we’re being honest, I love you too…and I have for a long time.”
“I know, that’s not the problem,” Buck mumbled, slowly meeting his eyes, “when I first said that...I wanted-I just...I wanted it to be special.”
The grin on Eddie’s face was impossibly brighter, “I happen to think this was pretty damn special...all of our family here...just being with you is special.”
Buck lightly slapped his chest, “stop it. Don’t get sappy on me now, Diaz.”
“You’re right, I’ll wait until the wedding,” Eddie nodded.
If Buck wasn’t flushed red before, he definitely was after that. Standing up and dislodging Eddie’s hands, Buck pointed a finger at him. His mouth opened but he couldn’t form the words he wanted to, so he let his finger fall and his mouth close before he walked over to his sister who was silently laughing and sat beside her. Whatever Buck whispered to her caused her to lose her control on her laughs and for Buck to playfully roll his eyes before looking back at Eddie with a bright smile.
Here, in a room full of people that love him...Buck could get used to that.

Let Me In- Danny Williams
summary- someone from the readers past shows up on an already hard day and all her boyfriend wants her to do is open up. reader is steves sister
Tumblr media
"You wanted to see me?" I asked Danny who was standing in the doorway of Steve's office. He moved aside and I saw who was inside. "Hell no." I turned to walk away. "Hear her out." Steve said. "I don't want to hear her out." "Oh come on I'm your sister." Mary piped in. "My sister who stole money from me multiple times and didn't come to our fathers funeral. Some sister you are Mary. In fact the last time I saw you was at moms funeral. Years ago! You should get the sister of the year award." "Y/n I was different when we were younger." "Really, because since then, I've bailed your ass out of jail one too many times." "Come on, I came to apologize to you." "I'm sure you did, but I don't want to hear it." I turned to leave. "Y/n you walk out that door, you lose your job." Steve said. I stopped in the doorway and then turned around. I took the badge that was on the ring of my jeans off and handed it to Steve. Steve knew what today was and he was really gonna fire me because I wouldn’t talk to my sister. "Screw this. I'm not talking to her." I handed him my gun out of my holster before walking out. "y/n wait!" I heard Danny yell. "Y/n!" "Agent McGarrett, is everything okay?" The secretary asked me. "Just peachy." I got in my car and drove to my apartment.
I never realized how much I missed work until I wasn’t there. It had only been a couple hours but I would rather be at work then here. I heard a knock on my door so I got up to go answer it. It was Danny. He was holding a brown bag of takeout. “Grace is at her moms, and you seemed pretty stressed today, can I come in?” I smiled at my boyfriend. “You always do know how to make me smile.” He followed me inside closing the door behind him. After he took the food out of the bags, which happened to be chinese food, he sat next to me on the couch. “So do you want to talk about why you don’t want to make up with your sister?” I looked at Danny, I never told him about my past, and I figured since I trusted him with my life on the job I could trust him with my past.
“She didn’t show up to my dad’s funeral, and she lied to me. Do you really think I should give her a second chance?” “She’s your sister, I think you should at least try.” “Thanks Danny. While we’re talking about my past, six years ago today my fiancé died trying to save me.” He looked at me with a caring look on his face. He didn’t even know I had a fiancé to begin with. “I’m sorry y/n.” He pulled me into his side and wrapped his hands around my shoulder. “Thank you Danny, you really are a good boyfriend.” He smiled at me. “Wanna stay the night?” “I would love too”
The next day Danny had told me that they were all going to Kamekonas today after work, so thats where I’m going to make up with my sister and get my job back.
“Look who decided to show up!” “Oh shut up Steve!” I walked past him and over to Mary.
"Are you gonna yell at me again y/n?"
"No. I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier." "Wow you actually apologized. Didn't see that coming." "This is exactly why I didn't want to apologize to you." "I'm just messing with you y/n." I smiled at her. "Oh here before I forget." She put her hands in her pocket and pulled out an envelope. "What is this?" "This is all the money i've ever stole from you. All 200 of it." "Keep it. I never cared that you stole money from me. I was just upset because you thought I would say no if you asked to borrow some." She put the envelope back in her pocket and smiled. "I am sorry about not going to dads funeral." "I know." "It was good seeing you Mary." "You too y/n." I hugged her and walked away to find Danny now sitting by himself. "What's wrong with you? You look like a little kid who just lost their dog." "If you must know, I just got off the phone with my ex wife's lawyer. She's trying to get my visitation hours with Grace lowered." "She can't do that can she?" "Unfortunately she can." "I'm sorry Danny." "Yeah well." "Wait, I have a really good lawyer. She's great in family court and custody battles." "How would you know? Do you have a secret kid I don't know about." I laughed and shook my head no. "When my parents got divorced, they went to court to decide who would get custody of Mary and I." "They just didn't want Steve anymore? I don't blame them." "No, they got divorced when I was 16 and Mary was 17. Steve was already old enough to be on his own." "I'd appreciate that y/n." "I'll give her your number." "Wait Cole why are you doing this? Half the time you could care less about anyone other than yourself and if he's lucky sometimes Steve." "Danny your my boyfriend, I pretend not to care about anyone, because it's just easier that way." "What do you mean it's easier?" "That way when they walk out of my life or die I won't get hurt." "What are you talking about?" "Danny, Five-O are the only people I have left in my life. My moms dead, dads dead. My sister doesn't live in Hawaii. My fiancé's dead. So in reality you, Chin, Kono, Lou, and Steve are the only people left that I don't entirely hate, but I'm gonna pretend  like I don't care about any of you until I believe it myself." "Cole we're your family now. You don't have to pretend that you don't care about us." "I guess not." "Your not alone anymore. You've got me, and Steve, and Kono, and Chin and Lou." "I appreciate that Danny. I guess I should admit it. I do care about you." "I care about you too Cole."

2020 fic recs!! [Part 1]
this idea was stolen from @iam93percentstardust cuz i just,,,thought that this year was absolute shit and it would be nice to make a fic rec list of fics from this year that helped me through it. this will be over a range of fandoms and ships, but all fics were written this year.
fics are ordered by the month they were published. ive tried to keep to five fics per month, but this is not obviously all the fics ive read that month - i just didn’t want to make this insanely long.
im releasing the first half of this on the 1st of December, and the second half on the 1st of January 2021 - because otherwise it would just get so long (and also so i will actually have fics for December)
happy reading!! hopefully you find fics on this you haven’t read yet

January
The cat is mighty dignified (until the dog comes by): @five-wow
Steve and Danny find them on the pillow in the corner of the dining area, where Eddie is on his side, ass half on the floor because the pillow is more cat-sized than lab-sized, and Pickles is nestled between Eddie’s front legs, essentially being spooned and looking very I-got-the-cream about it. Pickles’ head is tucked into the crook of Eddie’s neck and Eddie’s head slots perfectly on top of Mr. Pickles’, like a furry jigsaw puzzle.
“They’re cuddling,” Steve points out, unnecessarily.
Or: There is a love story unfolding under the McGarrett roof.
Captain ‘Socialist Rage Muffin’ America: @baffledkingcomposinghallelujah
It takes three months of dating Steve Rogers for Tony to understand why Aunt Peggy once shot at him in sheer frustration.
Alternately titled, Honey, I committed treason again.
The Best Laid Plans (Of Mice and Men): @arboreal-elm-ash-oak
His Dark Materials AU
It was Annalise who noticed their small visitor first.
“Tony,” the spider daemon said softly, skittering up the collar of his dress shirt, two of her eight legs resting delicately against his cheek, “Don’t startle them, but I believe we have a guest. Look, by the coffee table.”
Fourteen Million to One: @tunastorks
Six months after Thanos, six months after Tony’s death, six months after Steve returns to his own timeline, Tony Stark turns up on their doorstep.
Brewed Awakening: @iam93percentstardust
Two years after he comes out of the ice, Steve is drifting through life. On his teammate's recommendation, he decides to go back to school where he meets the grandson of an old friend. He finds happiness with Tony but Steve won't be in Boston forever and someone is out to hurt the Starks. Will Steve and Tony be able to reach their happily ever after?
February
the young, the reckless and the foolish: @bruciewayne
In most universes, they don't know each other, not in the slightest, or they hate each other, in a way that's perfectly logical for anyone who were to find themselves in a similar situation.
In this one, they've known each other since they were four years old and naively idealistic.
This is them over the years, against the odds.
a giant sign: @areiton
“Think you can get him to open the weapons division up again?” his CO asks, his voice hungry and Rhodey laughs because this--
“No. Tony hung up his weapons.”
“That’s not what the suit says,” his CO objects, and Rhodey shrugs.
Tony has always had rules, rules he expects the entire world to live by.
And then there was Rhodey, slipping under them.
my heart is driftwood, floating down your coast: @nethandrake
Tonight, there’s a stranger in his backseat. That’s not unusual.
He’s also sad. That’s not unusual either.
What is unusual is that the stranger is silent.
(One night, a stranger enters Steve's taxi. Nothing is the same again.)
Just A Cold: @/delighted
There’s a new text waiting for him. It’s from Steve of course, and it’s vaguely threatening as most messages from Steve are these days. Still Danny ignores it, and now he’s really playing with fire. Maybe it’ll burn the cold out of him.
Or, Danny’s sick, and Steve can’t stay away. The usual comfort fluff. With a little cameo from a gently meddling Grace.
An Unexpected Guide: @/Rachel500
Danny Williams has hidden his Guide status to keep being a detective, but his time of hiding is up when he unexpectedly finds his Sentinel, Steve McGarrett in the midst of a tragedy.
March
Why don’t we (Collide the spaces that divide us): @five-wow
When they finally catch sight of each other again through the milling crowds, they’re both a little worse for wear. Danny’s left side is covered in glitter and every time he brushes a hand over his hair, more blue and purple confetti rains down. Steve is- Well, Steve is randomly shirtless, which is all things considered not excessively remarkable, but he’s also covered in smudges of colorful paint and has a very nicely printed bloodred lipstick kiss mark on his cheek.
“What did you do?” Danny asks, because it looks like Steve had a lot more fun than he did.
Or: Steve and Danny accidentally end up in the middle of something entirely new.
A Little Unsteady: @finduilasclln
Written for the Tumblr prompt meme : "Hey! I was gonna eat that!"
Tony lashes out at Bucky for eating his dessert. Only, it really isn't about the dessert.
a national treasure: @starklysteve
Steve isn't looking for an apple and Tony decides his passion is to inspire young souls. -x- OR: the AU where Tony is a Youtuber and Steve is Captain America and somehow they still save the world together.
April
cycle through: @ambivalentmarvel
Twenty-five years ago, Tony Stark disappeared from his family home a month after the tragic deaths of his parents, Howard and Maria Stark, leaving a billion-dollar tech conglomerate without an heir and the world wondering what happened.
Twenty-three years ago, HYDRA gained another super soldier.
Ten years ago, Peter Parker’s parents died in what is ruled as a home invasion gone wrong but he knows was murder, plain and simple, because he spoke to the killer.
And in the present, Project Insight fails, and the Iron Soldier pays the price.
FOREVER-LOVE YOU-I: @/Eudoxia
Tony Stark is twenty-one when he loses his voice. It shouldn't matter, but in a world where the first words your Soulmate says to you are marked on your skin, it can be pretty damn annoying.
Especially for Tony's soulmate.
--
Companion piece to my fic Thumb, Index, and Pinky Extended. This is Steve's POV, with a few extra scenes, as a treat.
(Edit: Sorry if you guys get multiple notifications for this. I just realized (about two hours after posting it) that I fucked up the grammar in the title and I HAD to fix it. YOLO, I guess.)
come build a home out of me: @maguna-stxrk
Steve clears his throat.
“What if I went with you?” he asks nonchalantly, like his heart isn’t threatening to beat out of his ribcage.
Tony blinks a few times, looking at Steve, his mouth ajar. “As a— As my date?”
“Yeah.” Steve nods, feeling a little breathless.
“You don’t mind?” Tony furrows his eyebrows.
“I don’t. In fact, you can just tell them I’m your boyfriend. I’m sure they’ll back off, wouldn’t they?”
What.
“I— Huh?” Tony stares at him, brown eyes blown wide open.
What. What. What.
“Huh? Uh, I mean— You know, that way people will see that you have definitely moved on. Monica will see that you have moved on. Right?” Steve smiles, hoping that it masks his inner panic, because what?
Steve Rogers, what have you done?
i don’t have a choice (but i’d still choose you): @nethandrake
There’s a name inked onto his chest, a name written in an all-too familiar scrawl. And it’s— It’s—
Steve doesn’t realize his body is quaking until he’s tracing the tattoo with a shaky finger.
Because of course that is the name etched into the skin. Like a brand, a reminder for everything he has done. An appropriate retribution.
Anthony Edward Stark.
(When Thanos snaps half of the universe away, he unknowingly leaves the other half with soulmarks.)
ua haʻalele ʻoe iaʻu (a ua hoʻomālamalama ʻoe iaʻu): @just-fandomthings
"The truth is, I was shot in the chest and nearly died, and not even three days after I was released from the hospital, you up and left-- and of those two, I'm not sure which one hurt me worse!"
(Coda to 10x22 because come on, we all need a better ending than the one given to us.)
Title loosely translates to: "You left me in the dark (you lit me up)" -- inspired by the brilliant song "Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur
May
A Piece Of The Past: @hddnone
It had been so many years since Bucky had gone undercover in the Stark family's mob, he thought he'd gotten away clean.
Then Tony Stark slid into the seat across from him at his breakfast diner, and Bucky's boss has a new case for him.
the privilege of loving you: @starklysteve
“Why won’t you let me touch you?”
It’s a desperate plea, half-shouted and half-whispered, Steve’s voice cracking at the end. Tony stops in his tracks, halfway to the stairs. He doesn’t dare to turn back, and he really doesn’t want to fight, or to leave, to spend the last month of his life away from his husband and their son. But Steve can’t know, can he?
-x-
Or: Tony has palladium poisoning, but he doesn't tell Steve and Peter
your pillow feels so soft now (but still you must advance): @firebrands
When Bruce is 13, he decides to go to boarding school. It's an opportunity for him to learn about other people, and how to interact with them.
Bruce has the misfortune of meeting Tony Stark upon his arrival in Roxbury. Bruce is moving into his room, and Tony opens the door of his room to watch. He looks a bit younger than Bruce, hair wild and eyes bright. Bruce has never seen a boy like him before—handsome and confident.
Bruce doesn’t like it.
IMPORTANT: This fic has them meeting at 14, then progresses slowly until they’re 17. Includes underage drinking and kissing.
This is set before Bruce becomes Batman and Tony becomes Iron Man and I have no explanation as to how or why they just DO Canonically, Bruce is 17 when he finishes school and goes around the world to train, so we're sticking with that
The Real MVP: @sword-and-stars (part of a series)
[“I have saved this Tuesday!” Sokka announces, rattling the bag upon reentry.
Zuko doesn’t even look up from his phone as he deadpans, “It’s Thursday.”
Okay, so Sokka is still having trouble getting his days right without checking. At least he’s gone back to sleeping at night! Going to bed at night is way easier when you have a cute, cuddly boyfriend who starts falling asleep around eleven o’clock. It also helps that he and Zuko are on solid gold butt-touching terms.
It’s been a while since Sokka has been on butt-touching terms with someone and it’s amazing.]
Or,
Sokka knows a guy, gets laid, and introduces Zuko to the merits of an afternoon delight.
When is a bed not a bed? (When you’re not in it): @riotwritesthings
There’s a tiny safe house, with one tiny window and one tiny couch.
And one tiny little bed.
June
Nice Fingers: @anthonyed
A single compliment given by Tony stirs Bucky restless until he caves in and asks him out on a date.
With Steve’s help of course (whether he likes it or not).
The Darkest Touch: @starkrogerrs
This is the story of how Steve finds that it has been ordained that he is to marry a monster he cannot resist aka the God of Love himself, Tony.
It's Cupid x Psyche retold, but with thrice the amount of porn.
The Night Shift:  @weethreequarter
Welcome to the Emergency Department of San Antonio General where Dr. Tony Stark joins the team fresh from his most recent tour in Afghanistan and - much to the consternation of the other staff - strikes up an instant rapport with Nurse Steve Rogers. Meanwhile, new resident Bruce Banner refuses to give up on his patient, and Dr. Sharon Carter learns something from her own patients. Throw in a pissed off hospital administrator, Clint using the coffee pot as a mug again, and a major car crash and you have, well, just another night shift.
Wind Beneath My Wings: @iam93percentstardust
Sam first meets Tony Stark in 2005 when he joins the EXO-7 Falcon program.
In jest: @/apathyinreverie
“No, babe,” Danny shakes his head with a grin. “If the apocalypse were to go down while I’m elsewhere for some godforsaken reason, then you stay put and I’m coming to wherever you are.” His grin widens. “And I expect you to have cleared any aliens or zombies or whatever else might be messing with us off the island and to have set up a nice, comfortable military dictatorship for us to rule over by the time I get back.”
It’s a joke.
Of course it’s a joke.
Until it isn’t.
(A the-day-after-tomorrow-style apocalypse AU, where the world decides to end right when Danny is visiting one of the other islands with Grace. Because, of course, it does.)
