Thursday my dad passed and I'm officially an orphan....2024 started hard, but added some great hope and then it pushed me down and kicked me hard.

In my circle of friends I'm known as the Steve McGarrett and after struggling on how to tell my friends I was like, "So, I had my Steve McGarrett pilot episode moment! And I couldn't save my dad!"

I'm heavily projecting my inner Steve rn. It's been helping. I've written a lot about him so I am aware that...there's some McGarrett craziness, but I don't have season one Steve energy. I'm later season Steve when he got attacked at home and was too tired to go after the invader himself and is just having to face a lot of life experience is catching up to him.

Y’know how sometimes in movies, characters who are about to get a medical procedure done without pain meds will drink alcohol to numb the pain?

Thinking about Tony getting gravely hurt (i’m thinking shot maybe) in a situation where they can’t take him to a professional. And someone is going to have to set a bone/dig bullets out/put in stitches on him without any pain meds. so they offer him alcohol.

but he’s sober. he knows he HAS to be sober. he can’t slip. He refuses the drink and just lets the pain happen.

Does anyone else have that one friend whose sleep schedule is like an ever-evolving mystery? One day they’ll appear to be asleep for the entire 16 hours that you’re awake, but the next three they won’t appear to actually sleep at all. Sometimes they appear to be on Australian time, other times their schedule has adjusted to somewhere in the middle of the Pacific ocean. (I call this Cthulhu time.) You go a week without seeing them and you have no idea if they’re just really busy, dead, or if their sleep has simply synced up to the exact hours you’re awake and online. The only indication that they’re still in this mortal coil is vague posts about grocery shopping that pop up on their blogs at 4:12AM.

One of my coworkers today told me about a Batman tumblr post. About one of those that 'What if Bruce was on Nailed It' and I'll be looking for it soon, but...she's on tumblr. I understood her references so I'm sure she knows or heavily believes I have a tumblr.

Tumblr is different corners. And...idk if we live in the same corner. I just think we share a lapping space and are more so neighbors.

It's a weird experience. It's not exactly the spideman meme...but almost.

Something that's always fascinated me and sometimes really fucking frustrates me were the translations of names or where some names come from other names.

A lot of us know that funny bit of "How the fuck do you get Dick from Richard?!" "You ask him nicely."

I personally, still don't fucking get how Peggy comes from Margaret or Ned comes from Edward. I honestly just thought Ned was its own name.

You have other examples of like how from English to Spanish Michael becomes Miguel. There's some logic that I've just accepted.

But! Adam in Spanish becomes Adan. First few times I heard a Spanish relative say that name, it was speaking about Adam and Eve from the Bibble, but I shrugged it off because...I don't really know. But then when visiting my Catholic family I saw it spelled out! Idk why Adam become Adan trips me up more than Eve becoming Eva does, because her name changes too.

Anyway, names are weird. Translation rules are a trip.
