Post World War I, many wealthy American traveled to Europe to salvage valuable artifacts from the wreckage. This 16th century French Gothic chapel was originally a part of Chateau de Lannoy in Herbéviller, once located in Lorraine in eastern France. The chapel, a gift from Mr. Ralph H. Booth, was disassembled stone by stone, shipped to Detroit and rebuilt into the new Detroit Institute of Arts building, under construction at the time.
