Went with an old friend, from my New York days, to see a Kirtland's Warbler. The bird is quite rare due to it having rigid nesting requirements—jack pines of a certain height I believe.
This shot, of a singing male, was made during a tour, with the leader making sure we stayed on the trail and kept our distance.

This structure, located on East Bethune, between Woodward and John R, is all that remains of the then-Hamlin Avenue Police Station, designed by Louis Kamper. Built in 1898, it served as headquarters of the 9th Precinct - this building housed the Mounted Division. Unfortunately, when the 9th Precinct closed in 1954, the main building was subsequently demolished. The Mounted Division stayed behind. The old stables have been on the market for several years. #Detroit #NorthEndDetroit #Chateau #FrenchRenaissanceRevival #VictorianArchitecture #LouisKamper #archi_ologie #deserve2preserve #BrickStory #RawDetroit #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #MotorCityShooters #PureDetroit313 #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #ThisPlaceMatters #ThisPlaceMattersDetroit #MichiganPlacesMatter #SavingPlaces (at North End) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cqnc660OlgZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
I have a Pure Michigan photo for you. On this Memorial Day (and weekend) tons of people drive to northern Michigan. Then at the end of the holiday everyone is in a rush to drive back home. This is looking north on I-75 freeway. The traffic on the left is southbound and they are moving very well. At it’s worst, it would be a line of cars, all stopped.
Okay I have decided... I'll be taking a version of Lowry Moon to the Michigan Renaissance Festival today! I didn't have time to take photos before leaving so instead here's a shot from last year and a blooper to go along with it. This moment captured by my partner and favorite adventuring companion. 😀
Continuing a series of posts chasing the the Traverse City Turn of the Great Lakes Central: here the train is seen along East Bay, south of Acme, in its namesake town (TC), and lastly in Kingsley, Michigan.
A couple of things to note: once in TC, the train moved over to a branch line of the Grand Rapids & Indiana, later Pennsy. The last image, from Kingsley, is at a building I'm interested in, but have not been able to track down any information on as of yet.

Temperatures may be cold in Michigan, but things are just heating up in Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary as we prepare for the annual Thunder Bay International Film Festival!
The only thing better than a great film is sharing it with friends, family, and community members, and that’s what the Thunder Bay International Film Festival is all about. The independent film festival, which is produced in partnership with the International Ocean Film Festival, highlights films centered on the ocean and Great Lakes.
That squirrel is a daredevil! (I edited this, just in case people are wondering. The owl did not jump down without the squirrel noticing. They were there watching each other for quite some time. Nobody was harmed.)
