They were only supposed to stay in town for a night, but you (cause of the saloon) convinced them to stay longer. We enjoy the days, Two-bit trying to pick up the other ladies in the saloon with funny jokes. We'd all laugh at the failed attempt. He mightve gotten slapped once or twice, but he'd laugh it off.

Darry would try to apologize to the women, saying it was on the behalf of Two, some would accept because they thought it was genuine, others wouldn't accept, and a few might've even accepted because they thought Darry was cute (silently praying for another conversation with him)

Dallas would get in trouble with the local sheriff. Maybe even leave town with a wanted poster. (Dallas Winston - Wanted - Reward: $200). In other towns, he'd be bragging about it. Oh and he'd definitely brag about the wanted posters in others towns (to fellow inmates, to the little ladies, to us, anyone.)

I was going through the kerdly tag and someone mentioned Berdly saying "and don't forget to like and subscribe" on accident after they kiss BUT

Here's my take

They're livestreaming video games

Roach’s 40 Orange Glaze

(I personally cannot make a recipe from 6 screenshots in a funky font so I went and transcribed it!)

Roach’s 40 Orange Glaze

First off, no you don’t need 40 oranges for this cake. Any person who uses 40 oranges for anything is insane, and that's coming from me. You’ll need like 8 oranges for this recipe. 10 if you need a snack.

You’re about to make an orange syrup infused sponge cake, with orange fruit crème fraîche, orange buttercream frosting and an orange glaze. It will taste like it has 40 oranges. Just don’t tell Captain, he’ll call it "immoderate" or something.

This recipe will probably take you 3 hours, cause there's quite some waiting time between each element. Keep yourself busy. Swab the deck or check in on Buttons while you wait. I worry for that man.

If any steps confuse you, there's plenty of videos out there to help you get clarification for textures, techniques and such. You guys are lucky you have YouTube. All we had was Captain. Or Frenchie, he was our Wikipedia. I'll share some pictures of my steps in-between to help out.

Finally, this is my version of the cake, and you make it at your own risk. But feel free to experiment around and express your creativity. I believe in you. If there's one thing we’ve learned aboard The Revenge, it's that everyone’s special in their own special way. Yes, even Black Pete.

So let's bake this through as a crew!

Ingredients

Shop at the Republic of Pirates, your favorite establishment, or you know, pillage.

Sponge Cake:

* 6 eggs room temp

* 1 cup white sugar

* 1 cup flour

* ½ tsp baking powder

* pinch of salt

* 4 tablespoons of orange zest (you’lI need 2 for the sponge, the rest for other elements)

The Filling:

* 2 cups heavy cream (you’ll save ¼ of it for the topping, you'll see)

* 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (adjust according to your sweet tooth)

* 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla essence

* 1 orange

Orange Syrup:

* ½ cup of orange juice (no pulp)

* ½ cup of cognac (or liqueur of choice, otherwise ¼ cup of water)

* ¾ cup of sugar

The Orange Glaze:

* 2 - 2 ½ cups fresh orange juice (about 4-5 oranges)

* 1 ¼ tablespoons cornstarch (more if you want it really thick)

* 1/4 cup powdered sugar (more if you have a sweet tooth)

Orange buttercream frosting:

* 3 sticks softened unsalted butter (3x 8 tablespoons)

* 1 teaspoon salt

* 2 cups powdered sugar (more if you want your frosting sweeter)

* 1 tablespoon heavy cream

* 1 ½ tablespoons orange essence (more if you want it orangier)

Final Assembly:

* candied orange slices (bought mine, but if you make your own you're a lunatic and I like it)

* fresh orange slices

* sprigs of mint

Step 1: Sponge Cake (aka Genoise)

Steps:

* Turn your oven on to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

* Zest the skin of 2 oranges (don't throw out the oranges!)

* Lightly butter two 9 inch baking pans. If you only have one that's fine, you’ll just cut your sponge in half later to make 2 halves

* Line your pan with a sheet of parchment paper and lightly butter the parchment paper

* In a small bowl, add your flour, baking soda and salt. Stir together

* In a large mixing bowl add your 6 eggs and whisk on high speed

* After about 1 minute, add the sugar gradually as you keep mixing on high speed

* After another minute, add in your orange zest and keep mixing on high speed

* Mix it all together for about 8-10 minutes until the mixture is voluminous and fluffy

* Then gently sift in the flour mixture 1/3 at a time and fold it into the egg mix with a spatula. Don't stir. To keep it airy, fold any streaks of flour into the mix by scraping from the bottom to the top. Make sure it's all well incorporated

* Gently pour the mixture into your baking pans: half of the mixture in each pan if you have 2, or all of it if you only have one baking pan

* Smoothen the top of the mixture using a spatula

* Then place your baking pan(s) into the oven and bake for 25-35 minutes. DO NOT OPEN THE OVEN before the 25 minute mark or your sponge can collapse, like Spanish Jackie's nose jar

* If a toothpick comes out clean and your sponge is a nice golden brown color, it's done

* Remove the baking pans from the oven, turn your oven off, and gently run a smooth knife around the edges of your sponge

* Then gently flip the baking pan upside down onto a plate or cooling rack, Your sponge should fall out. Remove the parchment paper

* Set aside to cool completely for about 1 hour

Step 2: The Filling

(the filling has two elements: the whipped cream with oranges, and the orange syrup)

The Whipped Cream (crème fraîche)

Steps:

* Chill a medium mixing bowl in the freezer for 10 minutes (a cold bowl helps cream whip faster)

* Then pour in the heavy cream, powdered sugar and vanilla

* Mix on high speed until the cream forms stiff peaks (becomes fluffy and keeps it's shape)

* Add in your orange zest and fold this in the crème fraîche using a spatula

* Place in the fridge so the crème fraiche can stiffen up some more

* In the meantime cut 1 peeled orange into tiny chunks

The Orange Syrup

(use any liqueur of preference. I used cognac. But you can also do orange juice without alcohol and use water and sugar instead. The actual alcohol evaporates while cooking)

Steps:

* In a small saucepan add the orange juice, liqueur (or water) and sugar

* On medium-low heat, stir the contents together until the sugar melts and mixture comes to a boil. Keep stirring for about 3-5 minutes

* Once the mixture has all come together and looks like a very light syrup, remove from the heat and set aside to cool

Put the cognac down Wee John! No the cake's not done yet.

Filling Up The Cake

Steps:

* Once your sponge cake is cool enough to the touch, you're ready to start your filling

* If you used 2 baking pans, flip the sponge that looks the most flat and thick onto a serving plate or cake board. The flat side should be the bottom of your cake

* If you used one baking pan, now's the time to cut your sponge in half using a good bread knife. Try your best to keep it even. Think of Jim. Use whichever half is thicker as your base and place the flat side on a serving plate or cake board

* Then using a brush or spoon, brush some Orange Syrup on the bottom half of the cake. Make sure you cover it well and don't be afraid to get it in there. This will keep your cake moist. The more you brush on, the moister your cake. Just save some for the top half!

* Now place some Crème Fraîche on the bottom half, on top of the layer of syrup. Be generous. Just save about 1/4 of the Crème Fraîche for topping your cake later!

* Place your orange chunks on top of the Crème Fraîche and spread them around evenly

* Cover the orange chunks with another thin layer of Crème Fraîche (I'm saying this a lot)

* Now brush Orange Syrup on the top half of your cake. Use the flatter side as the top of the cake. So brush the syrup on the side that will be the inside of your cake. Again, the more you brush on, the moister your cake will be

* Gently place the top half of your cake on top of the layer of Crème Fraîche and orange chunks. Smoothen the sides using a spatula

* Place your cake in the fridge as you work on the final elements

Step 3: The Orange Glaze

Steps:

* Squeeze the oranges to get fresh juice. Pour the juice into a medium sized saucepan

* Add in the cornstarch and powdered sugar and stir it all together

* Place the saucepan on medium heat and stir continuously for about 5-8 minutes until the mixture thickens and bubbles burst on top

* Remove from the heat and strain the mixture into a cup or bowl to get rid of any pulp or blots so you get a smooth glaze

* Set aside to cool completely. Place it in the fridge and stir occasionally to cool it faster. It will thicken as it cools

Step 4: Orange Buttercream Frosting

Steps:

* In a medium mixing bowl, add your sticks of butter and salt

* Mix on high speed until the butter is soft and creamy

* Add in 1 cup of powdered sugar, heavy cream and orange essence. Mix on medium speed until it all combines. Then add the rest of the powdered sugar and mix until incorporated

* Taste your frosting to see if you want to add more orange essence or powdered sugar

* Remove the cake from the fridge and using a spatula, crumb coat your cake with the orange buttercream frosting. This means just putting a thin first layer around the sides and top which might gather some crumbs from the cake

* Place the cake in the fridge for 15 minutes as your first layer hardens

* Then remove the cake from the fridge and frost it all generously on the sides and the top. Cover it completely. Smooth it out using a spatula or icing knife

* Place the cake in the fridge to let the frosting set for 15-25 minutes

Step 5: Cake Assembly

Time to add the finishing touches to your cake and please The Gentleman Pirate!

Express your creativity. This is how I made mine.

Steps:

* Remove your cake from the fridge once the frosting has slightly hardened and the orange glaze is cool

* Slice your candied oranges in half and line them around the bottom of your cake.

* Gently pour some of the orange glaze on top of the cake, just enough to cover the top fully. Spread it around using a spatula

* Sprinkle some orange zest on top. Cut some thin slices of candied orange and sprinkle them around as well. This will create a decorative layer inside your glaze

* Then pour the rest of the glaze on top and spread it out using a spatula. You can let it drip on the sides of the cake for extra effect

* Now pipe some of the remaining crème fraîche on top of the glaze using a piping bag and your piping tip of preference. I used the Wilton 1M. Piping continuously in a circle creates a rose like flower and squeezing just once lightly creates a star. Now's your time to be creative with your piping! Look up some techniques. Just be mindful that the crème fraîche isn't too close to the edge of the cake or it can slip off the glaze

* Place some fresh orange slices and sprigs of mint on top of your piped crème fraîche and sprinkle some remaining zest as you see fit

And voilà! You Did it!

You made my version of 'Roach's 40 Orange Glaze' and have probably cured scurvy! The Swede will be happy. Just be gentle when you tell him teeth don't go back in.

Keep your cake refrigerated and remove from fridge about 15 minutes before service so it softens. Use a sharp knife when slicing. Ask Ivan or Fang for one if Jim’s busy. Be generous with your portions, like Oluwande's smile, or Wee John's hugs, or Blackbeard's beard, or Stede's closet!

Store leftover cake in the fridge in a tupperware or cake box to preserve freshness and moisture. It can keep about 3 days. If it hardens, you can always toss it at Izzy’s head.

I Have To Bake A Cake?

Kane couldn’t deny he was a little nervous. His experience with food had been sorely limited in the past. Hell, he still sometimes found himself eating like there were rats lurking in the shadows to steal what was his. But this wasn’t a case like that.

This was a cake. As ordered by Vince himself. Or at least through a couple dozen people who couldn’t give him a lot more details than the fact that he was supposed to bake a cake for Monday.

Okay, a cake. How hard could it be?

According to the recipes he dug up, very hard.

He was starting to get overwhelmed just by looking over the plethora of options. Every flavour under the sun, and that was just the cake itself. When combined with frostings and fillings and decorations, there were probably more kinds of cake than he’d had tiny pointless arguments with Daniel.

And that didn’t even change the fact that he hadn’t been told what the cake was for. All these recipes online seemed to indicate specific cakes for specific occasions, but what about when he had no occasion? No hints of any kind? What then, Pinterest mommy bloggers??

Even when he did find a recipe that seemed like it would work, it wasn’t like he had the ingredients for it. He and Daniel had made compromises when they moved in together. Kane could eat all the meat he wanted so he could get enough protein in his diet without having to resort to powders that made him gag, but in exchange, he’d put up with Daniel’s vegan substitutes for pretty much anything else. No animal milk and no eggs.

Which seemed to be the two staples for pretty much every recipe.

He was half tempted to just give up, retire and run away to parts unknown to escape the hellish task when a recipe offered itself. A plain chocolate cake. Nothing fancy about it whatsoever. Except for the fact that it offered substitutions. No animal based ingredients of any kind. And even shit he had. If he wasn’t so loyal to Daniel, Kane felt like he could have kissed the mommy blogger in question.

With Kane’s penchant for burning things, he usually left the more delicate cooking to Daniel. Baking was especially out of his wheelhouse, but he wasn’t one to let down whoever needed this cake. Nor whoever was supposed to eat it. It would just take a little remembering where Daniel kept everything in the kitchen and a little learning on the fly. No problem at all.

Step one was to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Kane liked this recipe already. The little extra heat in the kitchen set him at ease. It was like a nice hug.

The stand mixer, on the other hand, was like a chihuahua on cocaine. It was loud, it was fast, and it made every ingredient he added to the bowl explode in a tiny cloud. Explosions were for the ring; not for a tiny machine that Julia fucking Child could use.

3 cups flour? Poof. 3 cups sugar? Poof. 1 ½ cups cocoa powder? 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder and salt? 1 tablespoon baking soda? Poof, poof and a relatively underwhelming lesser poof (he later read the recipe more closely and noted that it said a ‘low speed’. Go figure.)

The 1 ½ cups of warm water (warmed literally by hand), ½ cup vegetable oil and 2 teaspoons of vanilla were much less exciting. It was starting to look more like cake batter and less like a slightly murky pile of powder, which set Kane a little more at ease.

But then came the chemistry.

Kane liked chemistry, usually. Liked reading about how different chemicals went together and caused what. The only difference was that he was usually in the wheelhouse of combustions. Making things explode. Making dairy-free buttermilk was not a combustion. And if it was, it wasn’t supposed to be.

He had the choice of 1 ½ cups of almond or soy milk as a substitution to be combined with 2 far-too-delicately added tablespoons of vinegar. The funk coming from the measuring cup within the next few minutes was… interesting to say the least. Not quite “Daniel’s casserole that was basically all sprouts” or “the time Taker wouldn’t say what he had barbecued” funky, but not something pleasant. How it wasn’t going to ruin the cake, Kane wasn’t sure, but the picture in the recipe looked delicious, so he’d have to trust the crazy mommy blogger for the time being.

The egg substitute made a little more sense. Eggs were gooey and yellow and so was the cup of applesauce he added. Plus it smelled a lot better than the buttermilk.

The second beating was a lot less exciting. No added mess onto himself and almost none onto the counter. Once the batter was smooth, all that was left was somehow getting it all into the pans he’d dug out of the cabinet.

Somehow, the sticky, gooey batter was going to have to make the seamless transition between stand mixer (fuck that thing) and pans that would move just out of the incoming dollop of batter like there was some kind of spirit just hanging around to fuck with him. He wouldn’t put it past the spirit. Wasn’t much to do in the afterlife besides fuck with the living.

A quick lighting of the incense stick Taker had given him seemed to do the trick. Or maybe it calmed his nerves and he stopped jostling the pan. Whatever the case, he made the successful transition from bowl to the three 9” pans and only lost a little batter in the process. They might end up a little wonky, but he planned to fix it with some of the vegan frosting Daniel kept in the back of the fridge where he thought Kane wouldn’t know about it (the man would buy and eat frosting for no reason other than to eat it and pretend immediately after that he’d never eaten frosting in his life, regardless of how much was still in his beard).

35 minutes later, the toothpick he stuck into the middle of each pan was coming out completely clean. Hardly even any crumbs.

He was pulling out the pans as he heard the front door open and Daniel walk in.

“Kane, you here?”

“In the kitchen,” he called back, kicking the oven door shut.

“Kitchen? Isn’t it a little early for dinn- what the fuck are you doing?” Daniel asked, blinking a few times as he paused in the doorway.

“Cake?” He’d been feeling certain about it thus far, but hearing Daniel’s confusion led him to wonder if the cake was supposed to be common knowledge.

“What’s the occasion for cake?”

“Dunno. Vince told me to bake it.”

“A cake?”

“Well… yeah, obviously a cake.”

“He told you to bake a cake?”

“He told John, who told Sheamus, who told Kofi, who told Big Show, who told-”

“Yeah, yeah, I get that, but what were the actual words?”

“‘On Monday, bake a cake.’”

“This Monday?”

“I think so.”

Daniel took a pause and inhaled deeply. “This Monday, when Raw begins at eight? As in, 8pm?”

It was Kane’s turn to pause and look towards his lover with a furrowed brow. “Are you telling me I spent the afternoon baking a cake that wasn’t actually needed?”

“Looking like it.”

Kane wasn’t sure if he wanted to laugh or drop kick the cakes. He settled for a scream into one of the throw pillows they kept on the kitchen chairs. One so eerie and heartbreaking that Daniel wasn’t sure if he should even touch Kane or what exactly was going to happen after he lifted his face from the pillow. Whatever he was waiting for, it certainly wasn’t laughter. Or a grin from underneath his mask with his eyes dancing.

“Break out the frosting, Danny boy, we’re eating good tonight.”

Personally i don’t have meds; but I subscribed to help me drink some water and stop doomscrolling; Thank you

You go you, funky little human!! This is what this blog is all about, doing the THINGS! It makes me so happy that subscribing has helped you 🥰 (I had to look up doomscrolling, and let me just say same friend same).

I made it about meds because that was the thing, at that time, I struggled the most with. I also really wanted something that was encouraging and without judgement and was a stigma-free, medication positive, zone for people who need to take meds, no matter why. If you need to take meds and you do then I am SO PROUD OF YOU!

I was (and still am) thoroughly sick of self-care lists etc. that for many people are unachievable for one reason or another. (No “Gweneth”, I can’t drink the wheatgrass smoothie or do yoga or I will get sick/hurt. I don’t need 15 different essential oil blends to really ‘take care’ of myself either). Or that make us feel like we are ‘failing’ if we aren’t doing all stuff on the list every day. That kind of bullshit needs to STOP. 

So really this is about encouragement and gentle reminders to do your basic self-care, just the essentials for example: 

drinking the fluids/water

doing the hygiene

eating the foods

making and going to the appointments

doing the thing the health professional told you to do at those appointments

using the condom/dam/glove etc. 

getting the sleeps moving the body

using the devices

caring for and remembering your devices

checking your levels (blood sugar etc.)

doing the healthy self-soothing things

taking the meds

Obviously, the thing(s) are different for everyone, so the reminder is for whatever you need.  

It’s also about recognising where you are now and being proud of yourself for doing the thing(s) no matter what they are for you. If someone is in a place where choosing water is what they need and they are doing that, that’s wonderful. If you currently go for long periods without consuming any fluids and you drink something, (tea, coffee, soda) that is equally wonderful. For some people eating some vegetables might be the thing for others it might be eating anything. For me brushing my hair is a thing - but doing it often enough that I don’t need 3 hours, a bottle of conditioner and a friend is a win. 

And finally, it’s to remind me, and all of you that we are not alone in this. As of today, there are 2,361 other people who need or want a reminder or some encouragement to take their meds or do the thing. 

TLDR - this is a medication positivity blog that also encourages you to participate in other basic self-care activities to look after yourself and stay safe, no matter what that looks like for you, and is so freaking proud of you when you do. ❤❤❤

Catshifter Au: Henry is very loud as a cat, he is even louder than Hyde. Henry's favorite place to sleep is in Maijabi's hat, Hyde's is in the pocket of Rachel's apron. Hyde is a moggy (cat mutt) but I imagine him looking a bit like a mix between a Scotland Fold and a Maine coon because of his twisted ears and long coat. Henry has never met his mother, however he has seen a lot of "stray" cats around his summer home back in Scotland, which was where his father had met his mother. Henry genuinely believes that he is cursed because his father often refused to tell him about his mother, or the fact that his (step) mother was never his real mom. The main ship for this au is Jekffin, however, each and every one of Henry's other love interests would be absolutely smitten with his cat form. The werecat species that Henry descends from can take the form either of a human, a normal house cat, or an actual werecat-- but Henry has so far only learned/has the ability to turn into an actual house cat. Morcant mostly just went as far with Henry as she did because he was a catshifter, and they spent most nights during that vacation prowling her territory in their animal forms. With the wobbily cat syndrome, Henry suffers from other chronic conditions on top of being wobbily; he easily puts his limbs out of their sockets and needs a cane to even attempt to walk straight, but he is a surprisingly good dancer (I'd love to imagine how more pissed the Lodgers would be if they knew how weak Henry is when Frankenstein first punched him to the floor, and if she managed to knock some of his bones out of their sockets (is... is that the term? I'm sure y'all get my point <3)

Irrboss Au: Well... I mean, they would be as edible as most trees would be but would probably get Henry and or Zosi slightly high because they are... Well, supernatural. They probably would taste like seed crackers so, pretty darn good for being trees. (Side note; fröknäcke is fucking delicious and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying).

Ghost Au: He has tried to bite a lot of people in either routes of his death, most of the times his victims shriek with pain but don’t get a bitemark. A phantom pain if you will ;3

AFK Au: He definitely would!! and I’m just not saying that because I love to sculpt and because puzzles are rad, he is just an old man and he deserves to have some peace with his hobbies. He probably has done a few ships-in-a-bottle and other miniatures for Henry/Thomas <3

I don’t -- my dad used to go to church regularly, but other than that, I’ve never been to church and we’ve never been as a family.

01. Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell Moons and Junes and ferries wheels, the dizzy dancing way that you feel as every fairy tale comes real. I've looked at love that way. 

I have probably talked about this song so often already but BOY where do I start? I was watching “Love Actually” & Both Sides Now started playing; it’s the scene where Karen (Emma Thompson) almost breaks down & cries while realizing that her relationship is a farce, that she has been foolish & blind & delusional. It continues with her doing her absolute best to calm herself down, to not collapse but function instead; she pretends she is fine, fearing that she might ruin her family’s Christmas party otherwise. It’s a raw, emotional scene unfolding itself while Joni sings about how she came to realize that everything has two sides; the very thing we dream off, aka we imagine / how we wish things are & the harsh reality. No song could ever express Pearl’s delusion with life & love [but also realizing one’s naivity] better than this one; the aspect of pretending that she is fine in order to not ruin her family’s lives with her agony fits excruciatingly well too. -- in fact, the stanza “I have looked at love from both sides now, from give and take & still somehow it’s love’s illusions that I recall. I really don’t know love at all” has been my blog description for months & I won’t change it any time soon. Additionally, this song is about growth & personal change sung with a certain candidness that words can’t really describe  -- this song single-handedly inspired me to create this blog, ngl.

02. Dernière Danse - Indila Oh my sweet torment, no point in fighting, you start again. I'm just a worthless being, without [her] I'm troubled. I wander around alone on the subway, a last dance: To forget my great misery. I want to get away, everything to start again.

Number two on my list is a bit of an oddity; it is the song that inspired me to change my URL & bottom header quote. I have always related this song to Pearl basically because it SOUNDS cheerful, has a more upbeat melody & seems positive enough on the outside; however, upon looking at the lyrics & understanding what the artist actually sings about you may or may not get chills. It’s literally a song about losing oneself, misery & the horrid feeling of loneliness after loss all wrapped up in some funky & cheery melody. It seems rather SURREAL at first & upon translating the lyrics you might believe Google is messing with you but... no. The cheery intro fools you, just how Pearl fools everyone in believing that she is a-okay. -- the song grows more & more serious / dramatic with the melody / beat becoming “heavier” over time. While still rather peppy, you can tell that something is wrong the second the background choir kicks in. -- needless to say, I consider the lyrics to be a reference to Pearl’s extreme directionlessness, her lack of purpose, severe lethargy & how she lost herself in her misery.

03. Dark Paradise - Lana Del Rey And there's no remedy for memory your face Is like a melody, it won't leave my head. Your soul is hunting me and telling me That everything is fine, but I wish I was dead.

At first, I wanted to use this meme as an excuse to gush on & on about It’s Over, isn't it? but then I remembered that Dark Paradise is a thing. Lana Del Rey simply had to be on here due to her habit of utterly & completely romanticizing tragic romance & death to an almost unhealthy degree. Pearl is guilty of the same issue. -- glorifying things you should absolutely not glorify. Dark Paradise deals with the loss of true love & the trauma that follows; not being able to move on, not being able to let go, blind devotion, stuck in the same grief, the same melancholy, the same subtle craving for death (through drowning). It’s haunting really, but these are topics that not only fit Pearl aesthetically but also motif wise. The largest part of her season 1 - 3 arc dealt with her grief over losing Rose & her inability to overcome her trauma in that regard. Dark Paradise strikes that nerve & expresses that despair rather accurately. 

04. Blinding - Florence and the Machine And I could hear the thunder and see the lightning crack All around the world was waking, I never could go back Cause all the walls of dreaming, they were torn wide open And finally it seemed that the spell was broken.

I wanted to add a song that might describe Pearl’s mentality more; something from Sleeping At Last, Aurora or Sia maybe, but given how I have been gushing about Florence & the Machine lately, I felt like I had to include them because of their extreme Pearl-esque aesthetic alone. Blinding is massive. It shakes you to the core & drags you along, whenever you want it or not. Its heavy percussion & lyrics, the REALIZATION hit you like a truck; I have always associated this song with the moment Pearl realizes who she is. May it be before the war or after "Now We Are Only Falling Apart". It has a revolutionary feeling to it: she wakes up from her Homeworld induced trance & breaks her conditioning, she wakes up from her lethargy & takes a stand for herself. It works either way, really. 

05. The Fantasy - 30 Seconds to Mars Do you live, do you die, do you bleed for the fantasy? In your mind, through your eyes, do you see? It's the fantasy Maybe, tonight we can forget about it all: it could be, just, like heaven. I am a machine: no longer living, just a shell of what I dreamed.

I needed a renegade song; something fast & aggressive; this one had the perfect vibe. The Fantasy it is loud, emotional, gritty & chaotic; it’s fast-paced, it’s desperate. It opposes all Past Pearl is supposed to stand for. It builds up, it swells, grows more & more apoplectic over time. -- “Dying for the fantasy” is another big motif on this blog; in fact, her dream / fantasy controls most of her early life to the point where it becomes an obsession. -- this song embodies the very compulsive drive she had, once. Reaching for a Golden Future that eventually turns out to be “just a shell of what she dreamt”; the fairytale that almost cost her her life in the end.

Shadow Headcanons - d/nt r/blog

Ruby’s attire of choice is as depicted above, to give him a bit of difference from his alternates. He does have the hover shoes and he does wear them sometimes, but this is his main outfit/attire. He typically wears a light grey hooded sweatshirt and a dark grey/black leather jacket over top. He wears knee high brown boots and he does have wrist inhibitors you just can’t see them through the jacket. Almost every interaction with Ruby, he will be in this attire unless stated otherwise. He prefers this as it covers not only scars but because its comfortable and he likes it for decency reasons. This art was made by @spiritwinding​.<3

Ruby has a nick in left ear from a bullet wound caused by an alternate. Its very small, but noticeable. He bares 36 in total scars across his arms that were caused by himself. He also has a stab wound on the right side of his chest. It is buried under fur and hard to see when he isn’t wearing his jackets.

Ruby can run sonic speed, without the hover boots (hence why he wears the brown boots). The hover boots help for smoother movement and easier gliding/drifting. But he can move super speeds on his own without the need of the hover shoes. He likes the boots though because they are lighter, even if he lacks a little more control.

Ruby has a soft spot for animals. He doesn’t really outright show this, but he’d save a bug and put it outside before smashing it or letting other’s smash it. He’s the type to rescue cats from trees or free turtles from netting. His soft spot for animals comes from Maria. She use to talk about animals on the ark all the time and he’s forever since wanted to protect them.

He does NOT require a chaos emerald to perform chaos control/chaos blast/chaos spears or anything chaos related not tied to his super form. I know this headcanon is funky because canon wise the writers say chaos energy can’t be used without a chaos energy but then a lot of Sonic games prove this wrong (at least from whats i’ve seen) Shadow is made with chaos energy so I believe in the beginning yeah, he struggled without it but now he is well adverse in how to control his abilities.

Ruby is well versed in piano playing along with the bass. Though, you will never catch him playing either. He also keeps a collection of old records that he has found through the years and he likes to listen to them on very rare occasions.

He cannot sing very well at all. His voice isn’t bad, he just doesn’t do it enough to really be comfortable or know how to breathe properly doing it. Again, not that you would ever see/hear him sing in your lifetime. 

The Black Arms blood can be extremely weird at times. He’s immune to all illness and disease, as well as the effects of alcohol and drugs. He typically cannot develop infections or anything. The only thing that can counter this is: A.) If he obtains a lot of deep/serious injuries that require a lot of healing. His blood can become overwhelmed and overworked and either slow or pretty much stop which is when he can get sick/develop infections. To avoid infections, his body will go into deep sleep to regain itself. He still feels pain and can take either as long or longer then a normal mobian to heal if his body is completely overworked and B.) Mephiles blood can potentially damage the black arms blood cells if not completely wipe them out and pretty much null their immuno possibilities.

His favorite food is cheesecake and he typically drinks black coffee or chamomile tea with a hint of lemon. He will not drink soda nor alcohol. He knows they won’t do anything to him, he’s just not interested in them. Regular style cheesecake is his absolute favorite thing. 

Ruby is atheist. He does not believe in a higher power nor would he worship it. He sees no purpose in it and considers it a waste of time. (Again mun =/= muse do NOT send hate) This comes from he looks at the view of the horrible things worlds go through (i.e black arms attacking, 06, the world splitting apart, the war) and doesn’t see how a higher power could do such heinous acts. But also - Mephiles is a deity and NO.

Ruby has NEVER until recently been exposed to the phantom ruby. His world died during 06. Therefore everything after never happened. He knows about it a little bit from Spirit, but he is unaware of its capabilities and strengths. He only knew about the Gaia’s because he reads a LOT and read the manuscripts.

In his free time, Ruby will read. He basically has a library of books in his cabin and if hes not interested in being social he will read. He reads anything from fiction, to text books, to even romance novels. Its more so for just reading everything, but he secretly likes romance b ut hes taking that to the grave with him lol.

He likes to be clean: Ruby is not a fan of being dirty. He doesn’t like being muddy, soaked, covered in dirt, dust, ash, etc. He hates it. He hates feeling grimy and will attempt to shower at the first feeling of dirt. 

He doesn’t require sleep/eating/water as he is a genetic hybrid. He doesn’t need it, but will indulge. Just because he doesn’t need to sleep, doesn’t mean he can’t feel tired. He doesn’t have to sleep, but if hes bored enough or hes been all over the place he might sleep. And when he does sleep, he is very CALM. He doesn’t toss or turn really. He typically sleeps on his back with one hand behind his head, one rested at his side with his legs straight out (maybe slightly bent) or he sleeps on his stomach with his hands under his head and his one leg bent up over a pillow. He doesn’t snore and typically he wakes up in the same position he woke up in.
