List 10 comfort shows and tag 10 people
I was tagged by @twig-tea (thank you!). This is really difficult because I don't tend to re-watch shows. When I'm obsessed I read fanfic, find FMV's on youtube, and search the tag on Tumblr for gifs and meta lol. I tend to go to books and music for comfort in preference to other media. That being said, here are a few shows that have brought me comfort, that I have re-watched at least once, and that made me cry when I needed that catharsis.
Bad Buddy. Nobody needs me to do a shout out for this show, but I knew I was going to love it from the first teaser trailer, I watched it live from episode one, and I re-watched all episodes released before each new episode dropped. It is also the first BL that I ever shared with an IRL person. It's the perfect mix of fantasy, romance, reality, and comedy.
Until We Meet Again. The heartbreak, the healing, the pain, the inevitability, the love. It gets me every time. I'm a sucker for anything that rips my heart out and then shoves it back in.
Triage. Time loops and time travel and changing ones fate because of love and friendship and light in the darkness and nobody being perfect, but also being able to change and how our lives are made of connections and past circumstances and our choices are influenced by the opportunities we have and what support we get.
It's OK to not be OK. There's a theme here, I know hahaha. Intergenerational trauma and healing, how damaged people can help each other, and the importance of family. I binged this show and there are many scenes that I go back to watch when I'm feeling a certain way. I think this show reminds me a lot of one of my all time favourite stories ever. If you love intergenerational trauma and healing and feeling like a monster and grief and love and family, then please, I beg you, go and find and read Fruits Basket.
Bromance. One of the first Taiwanese dramas I ever watched. I know it can be controversial, but I've enjoyed stories that deal with gender identity since I was a teenager. I've never felt particularly connected to societal expectations for the presentation of my own femininity and I have always felt that gender is unimportant for my personal attraction to people. Having people in stories who are unashamedly loved for themselves, no matter the gender people think they are, or the expectations placed on them because of their gender or gender presentation feel so comforting to me. I really love Coffee Prince for the same reasons. There are also several books and manga that I revisit regularly that have this theme.
Eien no kinou. Yes, it is heartbreaking, but it is so soft and gentle about it. The idea that the universe would conspire to give you time to say goodbye to someone you love is so beautiful.
Old Fashion Cupcake. The unknown influences we have on people, the romance of learning to live not merely exist after losing that for ourselves, people who aren't teenager or young adults having a beautiful love story and finding happiness with each other. It's just very comforting to me.
Leverage. The found family, and making the world a little bit better, and how evil people hurt others not because they care, but because they don't care, how grief colours everything. I think this show is a masterpiece and the way that the episodes mostly follow a heist of the week is also very comforting because I can watch just one episode and not feel like I have to keep watching.
Avatar: The Last Airbender. Oh would you look at that, more trauma! But for all the pain, there is love, and laughter, and healing, and "That's rough, buddy".
Full Metal Alchemist. Yes, Brotherhood is objectively better, but I watched the original anime with my best friends in high school and it has been on my list of forever faves since then. Nothing has ever hit the same emotional devastation as the reveal of what happens to Nina (iykyk). But the love and devotion in this story always wraps me up like a warm hug.
I did not realise I had that much to say about TV shows or how many themes my favourite media have in common XD
If you haven't been tagged and want to do this, please jump in and take this as your invite! I'm not sure who has done this, so I'm going to tag a few people, but no pressure if you don't want to or already have :) @axolola, @chalkrevelations, @fatgumsurpremacy-remastered, @vera9, @neoncoloredglasses, @theflagscene, @omarandjohnny

EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
tagged by @littleragondin mwah🥰 these are not all my most fave but they all represent a bit of me so i find them suitable
W.I.T.C.H - now i'm not gonna pretend to be the biggest fan but this used to be THE show for me before WINX came along and i'll always pride myself on being a witch girlie first and winx girlie second (the "not like other girls" syndrome began very early on for me); their powers, the visuals, the adventures combined with the daily struggles of teen girls, the boyfriends, the intro song omg, there is sm about this show, the countless books, the og comic.. good stuff <3
Tumblr media
also those two >>>
Tumblr media
Lovely Complex - my first anime iirc, i wish people would pay attention to it (but also i'm the only one who's allowed to get it, y'know); only a young romantic towering over her classmates could have the chance of understanding my feelings for it
also read the manga <3 but uh you can skip the live action lol
Tumblr media
Hana Yori Dango - broooo- bro. this show was made for my basic romantic ass, it was my first asian drama (or one of the first), it introduced me to Matsumoto Jun, had me hooked for two seasons (though im pretty sure i binged the second season and movie in 24 hours, long after i had watched the first season..? idk what that was about)
i am of the opinion f4 thailand did best in many ways but this will forever be THE adaptation in my heart. the songs were unmatched, the drama breathtaking (there are so many cliches that i didn't know were cliches back then lol) and the experience surreal. i'll always treasure this questionable classic 💖
Tumblr media
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? - i enjoy this an unreasonable amount - my country's edition, that is; i just like having it in the bg and being a smartass, sometimes i run my mouth off so confidently and proceed to apologise to the tv when the contestant turns out to have been right lol
Tumblr media
Weekly Idol - hear me out on this - aside from all of its issues, the show has always been my way of finding more about groups. especially back in 2015, those low quality episodes on yt helped me so much with getting into kpop; it can be very hit-or-miss but i have so many faves; many artists have been on multiple episodes throughout the years and yet show something entertaining every time. you can find new groups to stan through the mixed episodes and learn more about the members of groups you're already interested in (though for that i also rec individual shows like gose, wanteez, monsta x-ray etc.). i'm especially excited for eunkwang and minjoo as the new hosts, they are so funny on their own and i want to see their dynamic so bad
Tumblr media
Pride & Prejudice - i've watched this just once but i can't not appreciate the accuracy to the book (except for the iconic lake scene lmao) and it covers british tv, 90s shows, austen books and period dramas all at once - all things i enjoy
Tumblr media
Bridgerton - i had a whole piece written bout this but simply put - season 2 and kathony were a Thing for me. got me researching and binging a bunch of jonathan shows, reading most of the book and a bunch of tumblr posts..even looking through gifs now im going feral, i love them
Tumblr media
New Girl - i usually play shows like this in the bg but i found myself paying a lot of attention and actually losing it laughing so many times, also nick and schmidt are the most precious intense bromance i've witnessed in fiction

Ten Characters, Ten Fandoms, Ten Tags (except it's one tag bc I hate mass tagging, makes it feel less special lol)
Thanks for tagging me @chouchinobake ! Part of the reason I stay on Tumblr is how different and I suppose intimate (?) it feels to be on here. The whump community in general is such a home to me, but the oddity of this platform gives me a chance to do different things that I'd never be able to do on my Twitter/Instagram.
In any case, it just looks like I'm supposed to list ten characters from different fandoms and why I like them, so here goes. I'm going to limit it to anime, since there are way too many in manga/live action, and, as an organized person, I must restrain myself:
Tumblr media
Ash Lynx [Banana Fish]: I've seen basically every BL anime that exists, and yet out of all the boys I've loved from those (Mafuyu didn't make it to the list but he is ONE OF THEM), no one quite stands out to me the way that Ash does. He was such a fresh personality to get into, and I found myself fascinated by the complexities of his character. One thing about Banana Fish in general that I enjoyed was the lack of "need" for it to go through as a BL, if that makes sense. It was an action/gang drama first and a love story second. I am always most attached to characters that I feel like I could never accurately write if I tried, since it gives me great respect for the author. Ash being violent but not uncaring, angry at the world and yet still a victim to it, plagued by recurring trauma (the amount of predatory gay men in BF is absolutely insane btw LMAO I love that Dino has just stocked his gang with gay rapists 😂) and yet still a very dangerous character. It's a tragedy that it ended the way it did, but I guess that's part of why he sticks with me so much. Definitely #1 saddest of the stories I've loved.
The way he has such fondness for Eiji without the author feeling like they needed to actually put them in a confirmed relationship was just so natural to me. Of course, I needed fanfics to help my crumbling heart after the ending, way back when I first watched it, but I always valued that about Banana Fish. I just fucking wish Ash made it back to Eiji for a hug, dammit. The one thing I hated in the show was the lack of hurt/comfort balance. There was so little comfort that it felt like sometimes the emotional aspect was ignored in favor of the action, and that drove me batty. Regardless, one of the favorites for sure.
Tumblr media
Xie Lian [Heaven's Official Blessing]: MY SWEET BABU. Holy fuck, I didn't know whether to list Mafuyu here or Xie, because they're both somewhat the same breed of SOFT, MUST PROTECT to me, but Xie won out, since I have to have at least one bandaged boy on the list in the absence of Dazai. Words cannot express the amount of sheer devotion I have to this CREATURE. This is one of those stand-out shows that became a comfort anime for me. The soft-voiced Chinese VAs for Xie and Hua Cheng cause physical reactions lmao. It's a rare softie romance for my favorites.
There are some characters that are so fucking precious to me that somehow my sadist nature drains away, and I actually do not want to see them hurt. This is one of the very, very few. Nobody touch Xie Lian. I will murder you.
Tumblr media
Yozo Oba [No Longer Human]: Written by the one and only Dazai Osamu, there is no character I've ever read about that I relate to more than Yozo Oba. There was a fantastic anime adaptation that I recently stumbled across, which is where the above gif came from. It's called Blue Literature Series, and its biggest feature is NLH, but it features other famous Japanese writers' (from Bungo) stories as well. The anime adaptation gave me such a visceral perspective on Yozo after reading the novel, and I loved everything about the anime (besides the way they changed Yozo's "best friend" to a far better person than he was). In reference specifically to the character, though, Yozo is the ultimate depiction of the extreme fear of human beings and masked depression. I cried at so many moments from the book that hit right where I struggled in life, and I hardly ever reread things, but NLH was a major exception.
No lie, that shit had me saying "he's just like me fr!" 😀 lol... sorry
Tumblr media
Kaneki Ken [Tokyo Ghoul]: Yeah yeah, I know. Everyone has talked about Kaneki. But he really is amazing. No matter how memed this poor man is, he remains among the top favorites, both in the depiction of his warring personalities as well as the monster vs. human. The entirety of TG is just GORGEOUS in its world building, character design, and fresh perspectives on the old cliche of half human, half devil. His character arc always gets me going. But he's been talked about enough; everyone knows about him. I don't need to say much except that MAN he truly WAS wayyyy better in the manga. I was stunned at the extreme difference, and I get it now - all those fans who were pissed at the show. That's why I always watch the anime before the manga. It just gets better that way.
Tumblr media
Johan Liebert [Monster]: Besides the other antagonist you'll find a little further down in the list, this is my favorite anime villain of all time, I think. He's been hailed by many as one of the best, so I'm sure the subject is already worn out, but everything about this man had me crazy for him. His vicious backstory, his psychopathy, his incredible manipulation, and his treacherously low screen time. This is one of those characters where the lack of appearances in the show actually fueled my devotion, because the times when he did show up were absolutely BANGER, and his fucking presence is so intoxicating. He was fabulously animated too, and the whole show was such a good watch. The VA always has something to do with it for me, and Johan was no exception. (I watch everything in sub, just because the VAs are usually that gorgeous whispery-ear-fuck for mysterious characters like this 😂)
Tumblr media
Sebastian Michaelis [Black Butler]: I mean come on, who wouldn't like Sebastian. Honestly, nothing much needs to be said. Ciel makes him that much better. Their tension and dynamics, and the way that their relationship was set up is just incredible. Can't be beat, really. I wish I could go back to the first time I saw BB and watch it all again, cuz fucking hell it was so good. I love the contradiction of Sebastian's devil hunger for human souls being conflicted - not by the fact that he has a human half, but by the fact that he's signed a deal with a human, and has grown some semblance of attachment to that human, and that's what keeps him unpredictable. Will he care for Ciel in the end and choose not to follow through or not? Idk, that was my favorite perspective of his character and the whole show.
Tumblr media
Akihito Narihisago [ID: Invaded]: If you haven't seen this anime, you're missing out, firstly on one of my favorite VAs of all time 🥹 Kenjiro Tsuda, and secondly on a very emotional plot and story arc that I didn't expect for the genre of show that it was. Akihito is a detective in a virtual reality, trying to solve a murder. What I didn't expect was the constant appearances of a girl in this world that is Akihito's daughter, and how her face being on every victim made the case so incredibly personal that it was tear-jerking for me. Honestly, Tsuda's performance is probably the main reason why it hits so hard, but this poor man has to go through seeing his daughter's face on every mangled victim, watching her die over and over, and never being able to save her. And that's all he wants. He just wants to save her. I won't spoil any more, but good grief this one was a very unexpected favorite of mine.
Tumblr media
Zero Kiryuu [Vampire Knight]: ☺️☺️☺️☺️ Whaaaaaaaaaat? He was my first whumpy boy *pinches cheeks*, my first anime love, *squish squish* baby's first anime! Back then when I was a lazy first-timer, I was watching in dub. By now I've gone back and re-watched in sub after realizing the great and powerful Miyano Mamoru was the voice of my vampire crush, but I am not complaining over the English VA, because Vic Mignogna is the only comparable voice to do any of Miyano's characters. Loved that man. Wish he was still around. In any case, Zero is the ultimate angsty vampire and nobody will ever replace him for me.
Tumblr media
Yashiro [Saezuru wa Tori Habatakanai]: I...where do I even begin? T_T The sheer complexity of this man's personality makes him such an obsession to me. I would consume any and all media relating to him, no matter what it is. He's one of those characters that can endlessly be studied and picked apart. He has so much conflict, so many walls, so much pain. It's the ones who pretend they love self-destruction that really get to me. I love seeing Yashiro crumble because of Doumeki's insistent care, and words cannot express how many times I've watched the BLCD paired with the manga for the climactic first sex scene with Doumeki, and how emotional it was. It offered a whole new perspective in my opinion of how deep something as dismissed as erotica could go, and I strive for that same emotional and character depth in my own works because of it. The dynamics of this show in general provoked and inspired the story I'm writing of Ellum and Callyx, even if it existed long before I got into Saezuru. It helped me form it around what I learned from experiencing the manga and then the anime, and then the BLCD, and I can't fucking wait for the rest of this trilogy to come out so I can weep ffs.
Tumblr media
Iason Mink [Ai no Kusabi]: Ah, the man who created Taushin. Lol, way back when Sadist was a baby whumper, this was one of the first yaoi I ever set eyes on. Though set in the weirdest and most repulsive world for erotica imo, the dynamics of Iason the Blondie and Riki his little brat Pet will remain one of my favorite power plays, and remains the standard for what I keep looking for in other stories. The anime remake was so unabashedly uncensored that it remains hard to find something that matches it, as far as non-con and punishment/pleasure based relationships go, and I wish it hadn't been cancelled cuz that was a fucking shame. Despite the plot being rather boring, the tension between these two makes up for it, and the constant rivalry of enemies who basically remain enemies and are only reluctant lovers when it comes to it makes it so intriguing. Iason is THE Master of all Masters in my opinion, and was voiced so perfectly in both anime versions - that velvety, stern voice omg - and Taushin was heavily influenced by him, as well as the classism of Gailda, coming from Ai no Kusabi's rankings of Blondies and Pets, which I thought made for an interesting world. If not for Ai no Kusabi, I don't think I'd ever have come up with the story of Dancing with Death, even though Taushin and Angel have a much different dynamic, since Angel is obedient and nothing like the hard-headed Riki. I still owe it to that anime.
Tumblr media
Griffith [Berserk]: It's insane to me how long it took for me to finally watch Berserk, but for years all I saw was that ugly bastard with the name Guts in reference to the acclaimed manga and its disgustingly animated show. I never had an interest in reading the manga, so when I discovered the existence of Griffith through one of my friends who was urging me to read it, I realized that the story wasn't what I'd thought. Then, seeing the movies that existed with far better animation, I instantly got into it and was hooked. My gods, the character arc of this man. It remains one of my favorite tragedies, only outdone by Kaneki's. AND THE BEAUTY OF THIS BOY GOOD GRIEF LMAO it's so hilarious to me how pretty he is in a male-driven male-gaze manga, if you know what I mean. 😂 Like this story in general just stands out, and Griffith is the shining star. I got so attached to him, and to see him imprisoned and betrayed and just...JEEEEz. It hurt so much. And it felt so good to see him turn, no matter how horrifying. Still can't really put up with the infamous Casca/Griffith scene as it felt a little misplaced 😂
Tumblr media
The Red King [K-Project series]: I feel like this anime is very under the radar, so allow me to introduce you to yet another badass man voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda. Everything about him is just...MUAH. He is a little elusive in the movies (there are several of them), so his screen time is criminally low for how obsessed I am with him, but when he's there he's THERE and is GLORIOUS. As the leader of a gang, in a world where each king rules a color and that color means their gangs have a certain ability - so for crimson there is fire, of course - he is the ultimate stern leader. They contrast this in the movies SO FANTASTICALLY by having this man taking care of a young girl, an adopted daughter of sorts, and showing off his soft spot for her and her alone. Oh my gods, I can't even begin. I just...I live for it. He is a kind leader, but the stoic and cold type, you know? One of my favorite personality types. He is easy to anger, but this girl that he protects adores him and he treats her like a little princess. I need to stop lol, I can't ramble too much, but I'll just say his rivalry with the Blue King, who used to be a good friend (enemies to lovers ship here I come) is heart-wrenching, and his eventual fate which I will not spoil absolutely destroyed me. The end.
I did 12, and I'm not sorry. I couldn't leave out The Red King or Griffith okay. I couldn't. I tried to not list the purely obvious ones, such as Bungo characters, Vanitas no Carte characters, or fandoms where I've made it quite clear how much I like certain people lmao. But they'd nevertheless be part of the list if it weren't limited to ten (COUGH 12), and I wanted to list characters that I had something particular to say about. A lot of them are made better by their counterpart or romantic interests in the show, such as Yashiro being perfectly matched with Doumeki, Zero being put to so much tension with Kaname, Johan being an incredible antagonist to Tenma, Iason showing off his power because of Riki's constant defiance, and The Red King having his soft spot with the little girl. And I mean, who would Griffith be without Guts?
I would list Gojo, but there's nothing to say about him that hasn't already been said, and that's just BARKBARKWOOFWOOFGGRRRR
Hope you enjoyed reading. And I hope you might've found some new anime because of it! K-Project seems lesser known, but my gods it's gorgeous, it's ship-city, and it's a fascinating plot heavily featuring on one of my favorite things: COLORS.
Thanks again for the tag 🖤 it's nice to be able to obsess over my favorites for a reason 😤
Tagging @lustfulcat ☺️☺️ if you feel like it, my sweet!

Remember when memes used to be questionnaires instead of gifs??? I AM ANCIENTTTTTT. @imindhowwelayinjune has placed a curse upon my house and now I’m honor-bound to dispel it.
Last song: Burn by 2WEI & Edda Hayes
Last show: The English was the last show I watched all the way through. I’m here for a good western and gotta use that accidental Amazon Prime 30 day free trial while it’s there.
Last Movie: I honestly can’t remember. Last time I was on a plane with in-flight entertainment, I watched Jurassic World: Dominion. It was terrible. But, hey, there were dinosaurs eating people.
Currently watching: I’m making my way through Rise of Empires: Ottoman Season 2. Work is holding me back but I WILL watch ancient political corruption, thanks. If all documentaries were shot like historical dramas, they would be my dragon hoard and I’d roll in a pile of them like a cat in catnip.
Currently reading: I’ve been trying to finish Women of Troy for over a month now, but I got distracted by a strong desire for magic ninja content. I also have A River Enchanted and Babel queued up in the reading roster.
Current obsession: I will never be able to escape my preoccupation with Uchihas. At this point, they’ve haunted me for over two decades and will haunt me for decades to come. I’ve been rereading the manga since Christmas. My DnD group has listened to 45 minutes of dissertations on power scaling problems in Naruto canon. Kishimoto continues to drag me to emotional narrative peaks joined together, not by sensible plot arcs or logical character motivations, but decimated, wasteland valleys of absolute plot fuckery.
Anyway. Sasuke’s a bitch, Itachi’s a god, and Shisui is a pure tragedy. I’ll be in this hell for the rest of my life.
------
Five books I’ve enjoyed since September
Okay, I basically didn’t read in October or November but I sprinted through about 10 books in December to try to reach my reading goal for the year (unsuccessful).
She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan. New favorite book of all time. It’s got all my kinks: war, ancient history, swords, horses, deep-seated loathing (self and otherwise), vague mythological magic systems, khans. Never in my life have I connected with a character in a more visceral, unwanted way. My existential crisis was full-blown. I didn’t want to identify with a eunuch on a profound level, but here we are.
Greywaren by Maggie Steifvater. I reread the whole series before going into the final book, so I can’t remember if Greywaren was my favorite. But I’ve never read a magical world similar to the nonsense that goes on in the Dreamer Trilogy. It’s real good. Ronan is also a peak character. Aggressive goth Gryffindor farmboy representation matters.
Rogues: True Stories of Grifters, Killers, Rebels and Crooks by Patrick Radden Keefe. Like true crime but don’t like gory details? I don’t understand you, but this is the book you’re looking for.
Furysong by Rosaria Munda. I found the character arc resolutions a little unsatisfying in the end but overall, this is probably my top young adult fantasy series. Dragons. There’s so many dragons.
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy. What a ride. I saw a lot of her interviews about this book before I read it, so I knew exactly what I was getting into. It’s powerful for someone to talk about their bullshit in a way that doesn’t sugar coat it.
-----
Last line written
I wrote almost nothing this year, but somehow this question caught me when I’ve just started working on a project again. The rust on this keyboard has been corroding since 2020.
“Still alive?” He asks. Irunae looks remarkably better than Énkava feels. He’s sitting up, for one. “So you’re not completely useless, then.”

reveal your watch and rewatch drama list
tagged by @godotismissingx
I’m mixing dramas and movies:
   -> currently watching:
Vincenzo – I watched the first episode yesterday and going to continue.
One Piece – it's a weekly tradition with my brother. We are watching it and complaining about peacing. The story is so engaging. And the animation has gotten really good recently.
SPY X FAMILY – every Saturday. Read manga first, and it was awesome. Love the found family trope. Besides, the Forgers are hilarious trying to be a normal family.
Crash Landing On You - I stopped on episode 5 almost two years ago. Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin managed to get married. I need to finish it.
Leverage (Korean version) – I'm watching it occasionally. I prefer the US version, but Korean is not bad. Currently on episode 11.
Bridgerton – started watching from season 2 because adore the enemies to lovers trope. Now I have to watch season 1.
Book of Fish – watched two first minutes and needed to stop because I had to do a task for Uni. Need to go back to it. Sol Kyunggu waits for me.
Escape from Mogadishu – Similar to the Book of Fish. Watched the first 7 minutes, and life called me. As well need to go back for it. Because of Koo Kyo Hwan.
    -> Rewatch:
The Merciless – always ready to rewatch that movie. It’s my life now. I accepted it.
D.P. – there are only 6 episodes? And it’s soo good? I want season 2.
Beyond Evil – mostly rewatching episodes 1, 8, and 16. But the whole show was incredible.
Leverage (US Version) – my comfort show. Always good to go back to it. Group of thieves scamming bad people. I love it.
    -> to watch list
Tracer – Im Siwan. I need to watch it now that all episodes are out.
Kinnporsche – the gifs on tumblr are teasing me. Also, mafia BL? I’m in. And the bath scene. (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄
Pachinko – the premise is interesting. And the opening is great.
The Uncanny Counter – on my list for a long time. Need to watch it finally.
The Crowned Clown – Yeo Jingoo. And period drama.
Semantic Error - BL
Tinted With You  – BL
Peppermint Candy – Sol Kyunggu. And from the interviews, he is very proud of that one. So I need to watch it.
Kingmaker – Sol Kyunggu won Baeksang for it. I was supposed to watch it a long time ago. Min recommended it to me.
Rikidozan – Sol Kyunggu as well.If someone knows where to watch it let me know.
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance – And Shin Hakyun. In minty hair.
I have bingo with Sol Kyunggu movies. I want to watch them all. My to-watch list has over 50 titles so I will stop here.
Tagging: (I don’t know who was already tagged, sorry) @daxianme, @verochkasnightmarecorner, @yardmargs, @fridayvelvet, @sofarraway, @igonecrazy, @requestomaestro and who wants to and I forgot to mention!

u know u just hate CQL because it's different from the book. You're just angry it's not an exact adaptation and are mad it's good and is a great adaptation. U don't even understand censorship
ok.. so everything about this is wrong. It’s very wrong because wanna know something I watched the drama first. I was excited for the drama! I watched the first few episodes was a little confused (by that I mean my brain needed to get all the names and shit straight because I can only read so fast so I got a little lost on whos and whys) and then I went and watched the Donghua after reading 10 or so chapters of the web comic and then got to the novel. I got to the book last. I read fanfic before I got to the book. I wanted to savor my experience of the book. I wasn’t even registering the book when I first started watching CQL and noted how wrong it was as a show.
And it was all in the editing and the absurd amount of scenes repeating the same point over and over.
I love when adaptations are different. I love when a team can bring something into a new medium and in the process put in new and fresh energy into something I already enjoy. I hate adaptations that are so exact they render the existence of it being an adaptation meaningless. I hate when an adaptation doesn’t have fun with the joy their medium brings. Or just are so exact it renders reading the original format meaningless. I am a huge lover of both versions of Howl’s Moving Castle book and film for their differences. I would honestly hate to watch a version of Howl like the book not cause I dislike it but because I know the book as it is written in it’s entirety wouldn’t work in a 90 minute runtime. Maybe a miniseries at best. I enjoy and love the original FMA and am a supporter of anime’s writing their own endings instead just dragging shit out or waiting for the manga to finish. I think the Soul Eater anime is perfect for what it is and I have fun every time it ends.
I if anyone should have defended CQL for it’s changes. For having the Yin Iron plot. Because here is the thing I don’t even mind the Yin Iron in principle given it has an incredibly distinct role is writing around the portrayal of the undead something that chinese media is rather sensitive about for cultural reasons that I respect and believe are valid on their part. Having it be puppets instead of corpses doesn’t bother me. It’s pining a morality on an object and low key implying it’s this objects fault for being evil and tempting evil people.
It’s the thematic emptiness. It’s the absurd writing choices and things set up but not followed through on. Moments that only exist to reach a beat in the book even though it doesn’t line up with the new plot they have made. It’s the repetitive ass scenes where the same information is given only one new person is in the room. It’s the annoyingly one note stage acting from everyone on scene.
It’s the boring camera angles and absurd editing choices that only further convince given the cast and how they are done this show was edited around profiting off having a C-Pop band for the main cast. The only part I give props on is set and costume design and even then it really shows that they had no interest in making these people look anything but like pretty with a bit of mud and stressed hair.
How else will we get stan gif sets?
Even if I were to just touch briefly on the LGBTQ censorship I cannot stress enough that element is not my maim gripe. My gripe is that this show is trying to profit off of a writing and editing style that only wants to insult you. You wanna know something? If they just used less middle distance shots and more closer intimate angles you could have used the subtle art of film editing to convey gay. Pay close attention to that bad clip show from the Xuanwu of Slaughter arc and note how much is distance shots. How much is camera work that displays no form of intimacy between the characters. How it is all so awkward and stilted in silence. If you could make a bromance wangxian work for me I would acknowledge the inherent yikes but I would enjoy. I can’t even enjoy CQL because it’s not done in a way that makes me ignore that corporate checklist.
Imma say this hot take even with all the obvious and glaring animation problems so far scum villain’s self saving system is a better show than CQL
If I had no idea that MDZS existed CQL would still be boring

Hetalia is coming back, and I have some thoughts...
Alrighty everyone, here we go! As if 2020 couldn’t get more insane...
(This is a longer post, so I’ll add fun gifs to separate the walls of text so it isn’t so exhausting to read).
Tumblr media
So, if you’ve been on the internet since the early 2010′s, you’ve most likely seen, or at least heard, of an odd show called Hetalia. This anime, with the manga originally created by Hidekaz Himaruya, was later adapted into an anime. For those who are either new to the internet or have been living under a rock for the last decade, Hetalia, first going under the name Hetalia: Axis Powers, is a show about different events in world history and world politics, all being portrayed by people who represent different countries. Each country - or character, you could say - is essentially the embodiment of all their respective country’s stereotypes.
For example, Germany is extremely strict, loud, militaristic, and often angry or stubborn. Italy is an absolute coward who is obsessed with pasta and beautiful women. And America is an over-the-top, loud, bombastic, arrogant dork who is constantly downing fast food and calling himself a “hero.” The list goes on and on, but you get the idea.
Hetalia was, and still is, an extremely weird show. And with season seven on the horizon, coming to us in Spring 2021, I feel like I ought to talk about it. And why am I taking the time to talk about it?
Because I am a veteran Hetalian.
Tumblr media
(Me laughing but slowly dying inside)
You read that right. Throughout all of middle school and the first few months of high school (almost four years), I was an absolute obsessive Hetalia fangirl. Outside of the internet, I was the biggest fan I knew, along with the guy who was my best friend at the time. We’d binge watch the show, read and write fanfiction, bring others into the cult fandom, talk about it almost constantly, draw fanart, watch the funny mmd video compilations on YouTube, delve really deep into world history, quote and reenact all of our favorite scenes - we even cosplayed England and Prussia one year for Halloween! This was the show that made me the HUGE history nerd I am today! I even got a book on the complete history of Prussia one year for Christmas.
Yep. We were those kind of fans. (Not gonna lie, as a now twenty-year-old woman, I still kinda cringe looking back at my middle school years. But I was having fun, so who cares?)
So when I heard we were getting another season after a five year hiatus, you’d think I’d be super stoked that a show I was once madly in love with was coming back from the dead, right?
Tumblr media
(The part of me that is thrilled about Hetalia returning)
Well... It’s a little complicated. I won’t lie that I am really excited for this new season, and I’m of course gonna watch the entire series over again in preparation for it. But I have some hopes, worries, and mixed emotions about everything happening, and everything that may or may not go down when the season eventually airs, including the time leading up to it. I even have a particular topic I want to get to, but you’ll see that later in the post.
To address my worries, we first have to go way back to the early days of the fandom. For the most part, the Hetalia fandom was just really weird, fun, nerdy, and quirky. Nothing wrong with that. I feel like the fandom already had an odd reputation, but at least it wasn’t a bad one. That is until we had some... How should I say... Toxic behaviors and incidents start to take place.
Allow me to explain. How I see it, every fandom has some kind of toxicity level. The toxicity level is from the fans who are, well, toxic. We all know who they are, and you’ve likely met at least a few here and there. And the toxicity levels vary from fandom to fandom. In some it’s very low, and in others it’s very high. I wouldn’t say the Hetalia fandom’s toxicity level was super high, but it wasn’t incredibly low either. We had the usual problems, like some intense shipping wars and people debating on different ideas and headcanons, but the Hetalia fandom had something a bit different going on.
Tumblr media
(My two personalities trying to coexist in peace)
You see, a lot of people didn’t like - or even hated - Hetalia, because they saw it as racist and offensive. If you admitted you liked Hetalia outside of the fandom, you ran a definite risk of getting either shunned or degraded for it. And if that wasn’t bad enough, you had a group of fans - a rather small group of fans, mind you - who did some pretty insensitive things that ended up landing the fandom in some serious hot water.
You’d have people in that small group of fans who’d openly do the Nazi salute while cosplaying Germany at conventions, and there was even the incident where you had fans cosplaying as Nazi Germany to the holocaust museum, where they decided to pose doing the Nazi salute. I even saw a cosplay of Germany and Prussia pointing guns at the Star of David, which is a well known symbol of the Jewish faith. Not to mention the fans who seemed to fetishize Nazi Germany and Prussia. Now, I may not know about everything these people did, as I was pretty good at staying on the light side of the fandom, but these were some pretty well known and disgraceful problems that everyone would find out about sooner or later.
Sadly enough, it was that small, tiny percentile of the fandom that did things that were so offensive, so wrong, that it was greatly magnified by others, thus giving the fandom its toxic, even cringey reputation. And I really hope we don’t have to relive that all over again.
Tumblr media
(Me singing songs about punching Nazis and eating pasta)
So what I hope is that we are able to leave all of that behind us. Though I’ve already seen some Twitter users try to start drama all over again by reposting the offensive cosplays, and Tumblr users getting their panties in a wad because they apparently have nothing else better to do. But because a vast majority of the Hetalia fans are like me in that we’ve grown older and matured, I’m hoping we can help guide the younger, newer fans in the right direction.
And I won’t deny that I am very worried about the newer fans getting harassed and bullied on social media. I don’t have a lot of advice when it comes to the haters, other than the usual ‘ignore them and don’t respond’, tactic. But just know that if they don’t leave you alone, you can always block them.
And here’s another bit I want to touch upon. While I can completely understand why people see this show as racist and offensive, I honestly don’t think it is. If anything, I think it actually teaches us something. And no, I’m not talking about history right here. I’m talking about the stereotypes, and how they are portrayed. I think this show helps us to understand that all of these different stereotypes we have about different people and countries are all stupid and silly.
Do we actually know a German who is exactly like Hetalia’s Germany? No. Do any of us know an Englishman who is identical to Hetalia’s England in every way? Of course not. This series helps us to understand that the stereotypes so many of us hold onto today are nothing more than just stupid, silly old ideas that have been blown far out of proportion over the years.
Many people try to claim that this show is overtly racist and tries to divide, but in my opinion, I think it ties us together.
Tumblr media
(My last two braincells writing up this post at around midnight)
At the end of the day, I’m incredibly excited and eager to see the new season of Hetalia, and everything that it will have in store for us. And it’s fun too look back on all the nostalgic memories I have of this show. This is all I have to say for now, but I may or may not be coming back to this topic in the future. Might even make another blog for Hetalia while I’m coming back to the fandom. After all, this is known as the fandom you can’t escape from.
Now if you excuse me, I’m gonna go press play on Hetalia: Axis Powers episode one, and let myself spiral into insanity once again!

The Romances of Journey to the West
I have not read Journey to the West.
I know the basics of the story and from what I am aware it isn’t really romantic. At all. Sure it’s got some side plots where romance might be an element, but not in the main plot.
So why are there so many stories based off of it that one of the main focuses is Romance???
I do not know the answer to that question, and wont be trying to answer it (sorry????). Instead, I’m going to talk about the media I’ve consumed based of off Journey to the West and their romances. Enjoy!
I thought it might be fun to do them all in order of when I consumed them (especially because I plan to add to this when I realize something new is also a JttW remix), but I don’t actually remember what order I started them in so we’re just going with obviousness. Starting with the most “Well, yeah.” and ending with the most “wait what?”.
first...
The New Legends of Monkey
Tumblr media
I actually never finished this one (how many times can I say that in this post, ha ha ha....), and it’s probably the one I’m least likely to finish (but I’ve got a compilationist in me so we’ll see).
It’s basically a straight forward retelling from what I watched, the main difference that I could see being Tripitaka’s characterization and gender. They made him a girl which felt like an excuse to add a romance between the monk and the Monkey King, though it only ever hinted at things as far as I got, so maybe it never happened (the tags on this gif suggest otherwise though). Tell me in the comments if you watched it I guess.
The acting wasn’t great and I dropped it pretty soon in, so I don’t have much else to say. They also made Sandy a girl, so maybe they were just trying to make it more diverse or something. IDK.
The Epic crush of Genie Lo
Tumblr media
This book was freaking amazing and I totally recommend it (and the sequel, it’s a dualogy so both books are out, no need to wait!). It’s the only one I’ve finished at the time of making this post.
It’s kinda the outlier because instead of a romance between Tripitaka and the Monkey King it’s a romance between the Monkey King and Genie Lo (who I won’t explain her character because of spoilers). It’s super fun and interesting.
It’s set in modern day after all the events of JttW took place, which also makes it different from all the rest, and definitely not a retelling. It uses all the same characters instead of just the character dynamics and plot.
They could have nixed the romance because it’s not the main thing but it’s really enjoyable so I ain’t mad (but it’s kinda more important in book 2). Also a different take than all the others so, props to the Author.
A Korean Odyssey
Tumblr media
This is the only K-Drama in the mix and I had to watch a few episodes to realize what it was. I’m nearly done with this one (started it in October and was zooming through but have slowed down due to NaNo). Another one I’d recommend (in fact, all the rest of them I probably recommend, tNLoM is the outlier here).
Out of the ones that are more obvious and use the same names, this one is the most different since it’s Korean instead of Chinese. Instead of Tripitaka they just use Samjang, and they use the Monkey’s title, The Great Sage Equal to Heaven, a lot more.
This one is also modern, but with the lore that they’ve dropped, is not set after the JttW but is the JttW, without all the traveling though. Also, instead of moving scrolls from point A to point B for The Merciful Goddess Guanyin (who hasn’t seemed to show up at all), they’ve been shoved together by The Devil King (who wasn’t as big of a player in JttW from what I know, but is one of the main characters in this). It’s very funny and emotional, like most K-dramas I’ve watched.
the romance is integral to the plot because instead of being trapped with a circlet that gives him headaches, The Monkey has a bracelet that makes him fall for Samjang and hurts his heart when she’s in danger. This causes much shenanigans which range from annoying to funny to heartbreaking. Good stuff.
Inuyasha
Tumblr media
Into the Shojo! You may have heard that this one is Journey to the West-esque (If you run in those kinds of circles) and it’s definitely the most obvious of the ones I’ve encountered. I’ve only watched the anime (still working on it), so if the manga’s different, I didn’t know.
It’s got the five man band, the non magical Trip. character who sets free the Monkey character and the circlet analogue (aka “sit boy!”). Also, we’ve got an actual journey and a magical item that they need to protect and get to a specific place.
It’s both modern and set in the past (portal fantasy!) which is fun. Especially since her family gets to know, and she goes back for school every once in a while.
The romances in this are also semi integral to the plot (it’s shojo, what did you expect), and it’s quite enjoyable. It’s got comedy, action, drama, and cute romance. (Also, it’s randomly getting a squeal after a decade I think.)
Kamisama Kiss
Tumblr media
I didn’t realize that this was JttW until after starting the manga, which I picked up after I finished the anime because it ended on a cliff hanger (I have some thoughts about that phenomenon too, but that’s for different and much shorter post). I really liked the anime and am making my sibling read the manga with me now. (they just corrected me and said I offered and they said yes, but saying I made them is funnier so whatever.)
Instead of being a cool monk or having the reincarnated soul of someone special, our Trip. for this one is just a nice girl, down on her luck who is given the divinity of a deadbeat kami who she saved from a tree. And instead of a magical item to bond her with the Monkey character (who is a fox spirit) they are sealed with just a kiss. (Hence the title)
The romance is semi integral, but oddly enough, I’d say less than in Inuyasha. Sure it weighs on their minds a lot, but the main plot is about Nanami trying to be a good kami and take care of her shrine, not her perspective love interests.
Fun show (and manga). Very goofy, cool world building, compelling characters, and good drama when it showed up.
and finally...
Yona of the Dawn
Tumblr media
this one might be more believable than the last one, but I realized it later and feel it’s got slightly less similarities with the original source material. Another one that I watched all the anime and now have started reading the manga with my sibling due to the cliff hanger. (I’ve noticed more differences between anime and manga in YotD than KSK, not important, but interesting to me).
The monk is a princess in this one, and her and five man band are mostly reincarnations of dragons, which is why they join her party, to protect her like their counterparts did. They’re all compelled by ancient blood. Strangely, the character I’d ascribe to Monkey king is not a dragon and is only compelled by loyalty (and love).
It’s got the epicness, historical-ish setting, and the journey, but instead of getting a MacGuffin to it’s destination, they’re escaping death and trying to restore a kingdom.
Romance is very complicated in this one. Very compelling and I’d say on the more integral side. Affection and it’s many forms are explored along the journey. There are many dynamics and they all have their own complications. It’s good.
(also, I hope to cosplay Yona some day)
So... yeah. That’s it. If you got all the way through this, thanks.

When BAP Babysits with You
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the gifs used in this post.
Tumblr media
Yongguk
Tumblr media
When you tell Yongguk you can’t come over to his place tonight because you have to babysit your niece, he’ll be a little bummed at first. But then you ask him to help you, and his whole mood changes. He’ll take it very seriously! He’ll buy some books to read, download some movies, and he’ll buy his favorite type of ramen to cook for you guys. He’ll be very patient and sweet with your niece, and you’ll know immediately that you want him to the father of your own children one day! *swoon*
Himchan
Tumblr media
Himchan would immediately volunteer to help you babysit your next-door neighbor’s kid -- you wouldn’t even need to ask! He would want to play games with him, make up songs with him, watch dramas together... Himchan would basically do all the work for you. And when you try to split the money with him at the end of the night, he would insist that spending time with you was more than enough payment for him. But he wouldn’t say no to you buying him dinner.
Daehyun
Tumblr media
When you find out you have to babysit your younger sibling instead of going on your date with Daehyun, you would invite him over to help you out since you still want to see him. He would hesitate at first, but once you tell him you’re going to cook a meal with 9 side dishes, he would at your door in minutes. He would be perfectly content spending a cozy night in with you and your sibling -- as long as you have a lot of soft, snuggly blankets and a movie-musical DVD to watch! Pair that with your delicious cooking, and Daehyun honestly might never leave.
Youngjae
Tumblr media
Once Youngjae hears you have to spend the night babysitting your nephew, he immediately responds with, “Oh, yay! I’ll be right there!” He’ll arrive with a schedule filled with only the most fun activities, the most important one being video games. He will literally spend hours in front of the television playing games with your nephew, and you’ll actually have to pull them away because you need to make sure he (your nephew, not necessarily Youngjae) is fed and bathed and ready for bed before your brother gets home. At the end of the night, Youngjae tells you more than once that he had so much fun. If your brother ever needs a babysitter again, he will gladly help out!
Jongup
Tumblr media
“Babysitting??? I’m... not so sure about this. We’ll just be... sitting? With a baby? For the whole night?” When you tell him that, in fact, you will be taking care of a young child, he lets out a sigh of relief. He’ll totally help! He’ll want to teach the kid how to dance, maybe read some mangas together, and he’ll definitely bring over McDonald’s. The next time the parents call you to babysit, they ask you to bring Jongup with you since their child is specifically requesting his presence. You can’t even be offended, though, because any time you spend with Jongup is a good time.
Zelo
Tumblr media
When you invite Zelo over to watch your boss’s toddler son for the night, he’s a little hesitant and nervous at first. He doesn’t know much about taking care of small children... You assure him it’s really not much different than taking care of a puppy, and that instantly sparks an idea in him. He’ll bring Mochi with him! He asks if that’s okay, of course, and once your boss approves, Zelo’s worries vanish. Your boss’s son is delighted to see Mochi, and when Zelo offers to teach him how to dance and rap, he’s even more delighted. He ends up dancing and playing with Mochi so much that he falls asleep before it’s even bedtime. “See, that wasn’t so bad, was it?” you asked Zelo as you’re lounging on the couch waiting for your boss to come home. “No, it wasn’t. You did lie to me, though.” “Excuse me?” “This was way more fun than taking care of a puppy.”

So I know your blog is focused on anime/manga and GIFs/pictures from that to prove your points (which you always manage to do soooo well, I'm lowkey jealous!) but can I ask you if there are any couples from books or TV shows that don't fit into the above category that you ship? Just rlly curious haha, have a great day
Haha thank you:) What do you mean? As in have I ever shipped something for no reason? I don’t think so, actually, I'm pretty sure I have an absolutely deadly proof that all of my ships are legit haha
From all the dumb to all the intelligent things I’ve read and watched, I’ve always had strong opinions on stuff and had tons of arguments. When it comes to couples, too. Me and my sister were arguing about the ships since I was 13 and we’ve read Twilight (lmao I think we’ve driven our parents insane in 2008 xD), same as with my mom about relationships in books, I still remember when I was reading “War and Peace” at school (it’s in Russian program) and she was telling me how great Natasha & Pierre were and I just flipped and was like “heck no, mom, no” and I was arguing about the fact that going for a peace in relationships, when all you feel towards somebody is gratefulness is not love and never will be. And she was like “it can grow into love” and I was like “no, it grows into a habit” and it kept going for forever lmao.
We’ve always discussed stuff a lot in my family whether it was classic literature, teen literature, dumb romcoms, deep dramas, tv shows, everything, and it was always fun.
I’ve always loved to argue about characters, too. And heck I was the only one who took literature exam in my class, cause we didn’t have a literature specialty at school and I was in an “economy and law” (cause we had only this, “maths”, “technology” and “natural science” classes), just to go to the university I wanted xD
It wasn’t even about shipping sometimes, I mean, there were just lots of TV shows where I just rewatched it and was like “How the hell people even like these two together?!”. Like Ross and Rachel from “Friends”, for example. Sometimes ships can be canon, but just ugly to me.
So, at times, like with Tododeku, it’s not about who’s most canon, but who are the best for each other and who make each other the best versions of themselves. Although I still think that Todoroki definitely has a crush. And usually canon or not my ships have that moment or moments, that you just can’t explain as “just friendship”. And that’s usually the point, when I go “got ya” haha
Cause let me just say, being very close to my sister, I can tell what is just bromance and what even we, as close as we are, find weird in “just friends” behaving like that xD
Because some ppl think that high-fiving is apparently means that ppl are sleeping together, and I just can’t relate lol
But when it comes to animes, most of my ships are so close to canon that they’re sailing themselves, so I kinda don’t have to do much, just like... state the canon facts.
And no, when it comes to anything, I’ve never shipped anyone for just walking together like a lot of people do, esp when it comes to animes.

🎫 here's a gush pass ^^ feel free to gush about whichever f/o you want, however much you want, then send this ask to 3 other selfshippers
Oh my goodness this is my first gush pass thank you!!! I’ll mostly be gushing about Osamu cause he!!! I hope you don’t mind!!! Putting a read more cause I gushed a lot I’m sorry-
Where to start with this gushing goodness...oh oh his character development and comfort he brings me!!!
Tumblr media
I’m gonna be honest; his character development makes me so happy and blushy and soft, I love seeing his growth and how he really wishes to be a better person, especially in the newest chapters of the manga. I just love how much a good person we see him; how he didn’t let his past stop him from being a good person, and how he genuine tries to help those around him. While during the first two seasons in the anime, the ADA vs Port Mafia and The Guild Arc for manga fans, we see how he went from the “comic relief” to one that people and the characters can see as a big threat for their plans. Osamu doesn’t mess around, and while everyone says “he is just a comic relief,” he is more than that... I relate to him with his past to extend, and I relate to the want and desire to be a good person. I love seeing that he wants to be a good person, cause I just want to cup his face, and tell him he is a good person. His past make him a bad person cause he is growing; he is actively trying to get better and he is doing so. I just he makes me feel like I can be a good person, and I admire him for how much and how far he goes, I just want to see him happy, safe, and know that he is doing more than enough cause he is doing his personal best.
Okay okay enough of that I’m gonna take about comfort cause oh my goodness has he been my comfort character since the good ol year of 2015. I fell in love with him so quick, especially cause the manga where he says his name was breathtaking. Than in that one chapter we see how smart he is, how fast he is to plan, and how much he works to make sure the job gets done. I just, I fell in love with his personality, looks, and his smarts. He speaks and thinks in a way I can understand, and I can just go “oh okay I see your plan, that’s so smart actually!” I love how he can make my heart just start going all fast and my face gets red from a blush when he starts talking. It’s so embarrassing when I watch bsd with anyone cause when he gets on screen I just grab a pillow or any item and try and cover my face cause I get so red with a huge blush- he makes me feel like I matter, like I can get far, I can be honest with myself and my emotions. I feel like he wouldn’t bash me or judge me for my past cause he knows the reason why most things happened weren’t my fault, but the fact my family never seemed to realize how serious things were. That he won’t laugh at me for my weird love for russian literature, my love for dreaming to be in a small cottage in the woods away from society but instead close to the ones I love and care for. I feel like when I’m having my bad days, he will pull me aside from everything, and try and spend a whole day doing things that can help me. From cooking with me, reading a book with me, or just play small games like the gameboy or even chess!!! I honestly just; its silly but I like to imagine everyday things that need to get done, like cooking and cleaning and the likes, are more fun and enjoyable!!! Like I don’t know I just wanna play soft waltz music and dance with him around the living room late at night, both of us knowing that yes it might be a little harder to get up in time for work, but we both are enjoying ourselves!!! Just dancing around the living room, giggling and having fun!!!
Okay okay one last thing I lied, you see thag gif below? That gift made this whole thing an absolute for me. That smile, that smile made me cry of pure joy in my drama lecture the day it aired and I watched it. His soft smile, the way his head turns and his hair is blowing in the wind, and his eyes goodness his eyes speak so much emotions and soul. At that moment I just went, “oh goodness I did get it bad.” Like I was actually blushing, smiling so wide, and crying actually tears of joy during that lecture. I just wanted to hug him, and play with his hair and just tell him “you are doing so well, you grown so much and you are so amazing. Goodness I can’t wait to see the day you realize how amazing, caring, and kind you are.” Like I’m sorry that scene asdfghkl I fell in love, actually in love so much more and had to get like a wedding ring so quickly after that scene. I just wanna give him so many hugs and kisses and take to so many café dates I’m so so so sorry I’m just such a huge softy!!! (〃ω〃)
Okay okay I’m limiting my self cause I will gush for so much more if I don’t limit myself QwQ thank you so extremely much for giving my first gush pass, really thank you!!!

I Pimp The Untamed/MDZS
Can’t shut up, won’t shut up.
Ok, now that the drama is done, I’m going to make an actual post to encourage people to watch it.
Rule Number One: Don’t Be Intimidated.
This fandom sounds really confusing and complicated from the outside.  And like a big commitment.  I get that.  But it’s not that bad.  It’s not like it’s Kingdom Hearts or anything.
What is Mo Dao Zu Shi?  (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Modao Zushi, MDZS)
Simple.  It’s a web novel, written by a Chinese BL author called Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX) (You’ll get the idea that this fandom abbreviates a lot.  There are a lot of letter combos around.  But it’s way easier than typing the names out all the time and having to spell them correctly.)   The novel has a full and complete fan translation you can read here.
Tumblr media
This novel has been adapted into a BUNCH of different mediums.  There’s a donghua (anime, currently airing series 2), manhua (manga, in progress), audio drama (in progress) and finally a live action drama which has just finished airing.  Everything but the drama are called Mo Dao Zu Shi.  The drama is titled The Untamed (official English title) or Chen Qing Ling (CQL).
Okay, but what is it about?
It’s Wuxia/Xianxia, aka Chinese fantasy about martial artists with magical abilities, cultivators trying to become immortal.  You know A:TLA?  That would be pretty close. Set in Ancient China, there are many different families of cultivator sects.  On a broad scale, it’s about the vying for power between these different clans, a few wars, schemes, backstabbing, etc.  Your typical epic political fantasy stuff.   However the story is really focused on the characters, because this is also a romance.   Practically it means a lot of very pretty people in flowing robes spinning through the air with swords (and flutes and zithers).
Tumblr media
Characters?
There are a LOT of them!  And they are all great!  (And they all have multiple names!  More on that later.)  But I’m gonna focus on the two you’re really interested in.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian (aka Wei Ying, Yiling Patriarch) - The main character.  POV character.  Fearsome, infamous necromancer known as the Yiling Patriarch.  He died 13 years ago.  Except now he’s back, in a new body (err, depending on version).  In actuality is an adorable trickster with a heart of gold. Chaotic Good with some extra chaos thrown in.  Disaster bi, but too much of a dumbass to realize it for like DECADES.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji (aka Lan Zhan, HanGuang-jun) - Perfect disciple of the Lan clan, famed for his purity, his beauty, and his crazy-good fighting and power.   Annoyed nearly to death by Wei Wuxian when they are teens.  At some point annoyance becomes Secret Pining.   Man of very few words and very little expression.  Secretly deeply passionate romantic.  Pines for DECADES, refuses to ever tell Wei Wuxian how he feels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
 So this romance?
You like slow burn?  We’ve got the SLOWEST.  You like Mutual Pining? Yup.  You like one person so incredibly oblivious to the other’s increasingly obvious feelings that you yell at your screen?  Oh boy, Wei Wuxian is the KING of that.  You like characters on opposite sides of a moral divide who fall in love anyway?  How about one character who pretends to be gay and hits on the other in order to turn them off but uh oh it doesn’t work and now we have to share a bed?!?  Cause that’s the beginning of the book.  This is everything you love about fic, all the tropes, but with great original characters and epic plot.
Tumblr media
What about the drama? Didn’t they get rid of the gay?
(Points up at that gif: That’s the “Straight Version.”)  The drama is subject to very strict Chinese government censorship that forbids the depiction of homosexual relationships at all.  However, the show manages to be SO INCREDIBLY GAY and SO ROMANTIC without ever putting anything on screen in words.  It’s very gay, IMO, but all in the LONG LONGING LOOKS.  I mean, it’s almost breathtakingly blatant at times.  They did a very deliberate and well thought out job toeing the line.  You can’t point to any physical contact or dialogue that is definitely gay, except to just gesture at THE ENTIRE THING.  (I mean, okay, they call each other soulmates and are constantly catching each other in their arms but that’s just Bro Stuff, right?)
Tumblr media
Is it a happy ending?
YUP.  I feel a little weird saying this because there’s a LOT of angst in this story.  But it’s all plot-related angst, not romance related angst.  I mean, see back up there, I mentioned that WWX dies, right?  He’s hated by his entire community and literally the first thing every version shows is his death.  A lot of characters die.  Everyone suffers.
However, both the book and drama end happily.  The novel gives you everything you could desire from a gay romance, including explicit sex scenes and...yeah, just good, good shit, okay.  (I will say the sex scenes aren’t the author’s strong suit, IMHO as a smut writer.  That’s one of my main complaints.)
So where in the world do I start?
So my personal recommendation is to watch The Untamed first.  That’s going to get a good amount of disagreement from other fans, probably.  I have my reasons.  First, I think the novel is pretty confusing and intimidating for English speakers because there’s a lot of context missing.  And a lot of names.  So many names.  A huge amount of cultural naming conventions and xianxia standard worldbuilding, etc.  Plus the novel is told non-linearly.  It jumps around in time a lot, moving forward in the present but having lots of lengthy flashbacks from multiple POVs.  I completely get WHY it’s written that way, and it’s pretty brilliant, but that combined with a non-professional translation means it may not grab everyone at first. Personally, while I enjoyed the book (and read it in a week or so) and the first season of the donghua, I didn’t fully become OBSESSED until The Untamed.
The drama, OTOH, has one MASSIVE 30ish episode flashback from ep 4 on, in which everything is told in chronological order.  I also think it’s much easier to follow who is who with visuals, whether you watch the drama or the donghua.  And finally, I think the experience of watching the drama, and then getting to go to the novel, with all the gay stuff left intact, would be pretty amazing.  If you really don’t want to be spoiled for the novel, you could always stop watching the show and go read the book after like 15 episodes or so.  But good luck restraining yourself.  I will say you probably have to be patient with the drama for a few episodes.  The special effects and fight scenes are its weakest points and there’s a lot of that in the first three eps.
You can watch The Untamed with English subs Here or Here, though I prefer the translation on Viki over the official channel, usually.
What about the other versions, like the anime?
None of the other versions is complete.  I started with the anime (donghua), for a few episodes, then read the book, then went back and watched the rest.  I really enjoyed the anime, until I watched The Untamed and now I find the anime...stilted?  It’s pretty and the fight scenes are way better than the drama, but the drama brings it SO HARD on the emotional front.  Then you can also read the manhua and listen to the audio if you want.  Both are much more strict to the book than either the drama or the anime.  (The anime is also edited of most gay content.)  The anime can be found here.  The manhua is here.
Anything else?
I mean, I can’t begin to talk about the other characters and their relationships because I would be here all day.  Wei Wuxian’s adopted siblings and their relationship give me such feels.  Each side character feels like they have their own story written somewhere, just as complicated as Wei Wuxian’s.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, please, please watch The Untamed.  And then yell at me about it.  Also a Disclaimer, everything above is only my own opinion.
ETA: Tumblr repeatedly stripped my links out of this post.  Let me know if any are missing.

Calling for dedicated roleplayers with a passion for writing
Hello! My name is Aaliyah or Ally for short, and I will cut right to the chase. I am looking for a mature role-player, preferably 21+ but will also accept 18+ (just to be sure that you are of legal age, otherwise it’ll be very uncomfortable).

As I am 26 years of age with 12 years of experience, I hope to meet someone who shares my passion in creative writing, as well as formulating interesting plots and characters.

In case you are curious about me as a person, I am a full-time student and a young writer who works at the gym on the side, but also enjoys other creative outlets such as drawing. Usually my schedule is fairly full, including the attendance of friends or family. However I always have ample time for a good roleplay. :)

I am seeking a literate writer who is committed to a long-term partnership, and by that I truly mean it. Please do not respond if you are uncertain of upholding a stable roleplay. Furthermore, I’ve noticed the “ghosting after the first few messages“ trope is a fairly widespread issue in the roleplaying scene / community. I would like to implore you from refraining it. I’ve grown quite irritated by it lately and rather like to avoid it in the near future. That way we don’t waste anyone’s time. Thank you in advance. If you are hitting a hiatus, that’s completely fine! A simple message of putting things on hold is completely sufficient, but I would like to keep in touch in case the story bears great potential. Now I have a wish, or as other say it, a certain craving for something new and fresh. And that something is quite specific, as my interests are a little unorthodox. Not the typical ‘Marvel, DC, My Hero Academia, etc’ type of stick. (Not to throw shade on them! They are great! Just not my cup of tea at the moment)

I heavily enjoy video-games, tv-shows, comics, films, books, the list goes on. Hopefully I can attract some kindred spirits.
I do roleplay both Canon and Original!

So if there’s no luck in finding a fitting Canon based story, we can always switch to original world building. First, I like to list all of my heavy cravings and interests. The ones marked in bold are usually the ones I am very willing to do.

Books:
Harry Potter Next Gen (original character cast)
True Blood
Vampire Hunter D (or Manga / Anime)
Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
Game of Thrones
Videogames:
Dragon Age (from Origins to current instalment)
Castlevania
Devil May Cry
Infamous series
The Darkness
Smite
Star Wars the Old Republic

Webcomics:
Lore Olympus
Lookism
True Beauty
Comics:
Constantine
Hellboy
Witchblade
The Darkness
X-Men
Films:
Alita Battle Angel
Kingsmen
Vampire Hunter D
TV-Shows live action:
True Blood
The Boys
Vikings
Game of Thrones (Open for discussion. Still haven’t recovered from the season finale however…)
TV-Shows animated:
Hellsing
Castlevania (Netflix adaptation)
Devil May Cry (Anime adaptation)
Demon Slayer (I have only started watching this)
FMA Brotherhood
Jojo’s bizarre adventure
Black lagoon
As for original plots, I am very keen on urban and gothic fantasy, but also mythology as well as horror and crime and action. I have plenty of ideas up my sleeve, some of them quite fleshed out and some of them being concepts in the making. Either way, I would rather have these ideas introduced throughout email or whatever platform we choose to communicate on. Themes for an original story I am most inclined to do are:
Supernatural / Metaphysical (Demons, Angels, Spirits, Monsters, etc.)
Mystery
Crime
Action
Sci-Fi & fantasy (Aliens coming in contact with unsuspecting earthlings during the middle ages / ancient time-periods)
Urban fantasy mixed with high school / college themes (similar to Supernatural with local monsters, creatures, etc)
Now onto the qualities of what my roleplaying partner should have.
What it all entails: What the Partnership should be: I strongly encourage an active roleplayer who is not afraid of sharing 50% of ideas, plotting, length, detail but most important of all, passion. A bird cannot fly with only one wing. Communication: I love making new friends and brainstorming, and communication is the bedrock of it all. It strengthens our compatibility and the story. Should there be anything that might bother you, or if you think you are left out in some type of way (be it a mistake on my part or if we’re both at fault here), simply tell me. It really doesn’t bother me rewriting certain scenes to better fit the narrative. We can always exchange opinions and see what would benefit the story most. The Way of Writing: No one-liners. No text-talk. No half-assed replies. And certainly no ‘quality over quantity’ when you can have both. I don’t expect anyone to write a novel, absolutely not. I don’t either, but if I get the feeling of my partner wavering in their effort and not investing as much as I do, I have to give them the chop, unfortunately. Too often have I encountered partners who showed strong enthusiasm at first, but after a while… they slacked and eventually only put the adequate effort into their side of things whilst completely disregarding my characters. I hope to avoid this in the future. And now to myself and how I write: My writing: Third person perspective usually, although I have made some exceptions in my years of writing. My style is wide-ranging and flexible, which means that frequently, word count will go up 1000+ per reply - though it also depends on the given situation and partner. And yes, I do double, preferably even, most likely in a canon universe. However this again wholly depends on the type of story, partner and cast of characters. I am very open and willing to discuss.

Rating: So you are writing with some of mature age. I have 12 years of writing under my belt. There will be violence, there will be swearing, gore, intimacy, uncomfortable topics, drama, conflict and other dark themes included when you are writing with me. I have few limits but I will respect the boundaries of my partner. And lastly, I won’t fade to black or skip out on the nitty gritty, unless it doesn’t serve a particular purpose in forwarding the story.
Characters: I write canon as well as OC characters. Faceclaims, GIFs, drawings, mood boards or just a plain physical description is absolutely sufficient. Characters should be written as opulent, flawed, unique, talented, heroic, villainous, spiteful, angry, and everything in-between. In other words, don’t be scared of making them flawed.
Romance: Openly play and accept characters of both genders, preferable m x f pairings, but I am open to m x m and f x f relationships as well. I have more experience with m x f relationships, so I might be more adaptable with this one. If the chemistry of two characters compel me, I’m on board with it! When it comes to sexual scenarios and intimacy (intercourse, foreplay, all that funny business). I encourage eroticism, but always in a tasteful, sensual manner (that goes for romance as well), though it is never the main focus of any of my stories, rather a tool to further the plot. Erotica is welcome but never the focus of any kind of roleplay. Content: Drama, violence, sex, metamorphosis, symbolism, action, romance, pretty much everything is a-okay. I am not explicitly bothered by certain subjects that may be uncomfortable for the general public. Roleplays are fictional stories and we best keep treating them as such. If there are things you are uncomfortable with, name them and I shall respect those boundaries. But don’t be surprised when suddenly one of our characters bites the dust, or gets tortured, etc. It may be difficult to write and read, but it is all part of the story and a tool for furthering the plot. My roleplays imply and involve brutality, mayhem, psychological and physical altercations among other things. But I also endorse beauty, serenity and placid moments for our characters to grow in. I love it when it comes full circle… everyone- and everything has a beautiful and hideous side. Again, this is mature and I am not here to coddle, I am here for a challenge. Should I hit a hiatus myself, I will inform you as soon as possible. :)

Platforms I usually roleplay on are email and google-docs. I also have Discord in case for plotting and chatting outside of the RP. Though Google Hangouts has proven itself as a sufficient chat-medium for such things, so I rather stay with that one.

When you message me, please use the given codenames so I know what you like to specify in.
Blue Rose: Canon

Red Feather: Original

I’d be happy to receive a small description of yourself and what your passions are! :) Message me here: EMAIL: [email protected] I am very excited to hear from you! Sincerely yours -Ally
