Summary: you’ve been tired about life and moon tries to comfort you

Reader: gender neutral

Warnings: mentions of the glitch but nothing bad happens, this is meant to be fluff!

I had been sluggish all night with my work. It probably wasn’t the best idea, especially with Moon following me. He took notice and was repeatedly suggesting I ‘Take a nap’ or ‘Have a rest’, I would brush him off each time. I knew it was making him more annoyed as the night went on, but I was too tired to really do anything about it. Not physically tired, just emotionally, and mentally. I don’t think sleep will fix that so easily. The problems will still be there when I wake up.

I debate with myself if I should tell him. Maybe he’ll have a better solution, or maybe the glitch will freak out hearing me use the T word. I figure it might be worth a shot if I’m careful. I decide to wait until I’m safe in some light to bring it up to him.

It takes a bit, but I finally find myself in a room and turn the light on before Moon can follow me in. He looks at me annoyed as he sits just outside the light reach. Just outside my reach. I take a deep breath and give him a tired smile.

“I am not drained physically. I actually slept just before coming here. So I’m all rested.” I say with a half-hearted thumbs up. I’m careful with my wording, but there are only so many ways I can describe what I’m feeling. Moon's head tilts to the side a little. He’s listening.

“I am, however, exhausted *emotionally*.” I pause to see his reaction. Will the glitch freak out? Will he try to find a way in? It doesn’t look like it. Instead, the pupils just disappear from his eyes, causing him to blend into the darkness more.

I decide to press on, “Things have been pretty stressful lately. I’m overwhelmed with everything I have to do and everything that has happened. It’s a lot to process.” I’m not even hiding how tired I sound at this point. Moon hasn’t moved though, hopefully, a good sign.

“I wanted to be honest with you. I can’t hide these things from you forever. Figured I should explain my attitude tonight before any assumptions got us in trouble. After all, a nap can’t fix everything.” This might have been a bad call, but he seems to be handling the information well. I see him take a step forward. He’s still in the shadow, but closer to the light than I thought he would ever get.

“What do you want then?” He asks quietly. I look at him, a little surprised and a little relieved at the question. I sigh a little in response. I think I want a hug, but I’m not sure if he’s in the right headspace for that. I can always ask Sun later.

As I think my options through I see a hand slowly extend towards me into the light. It’s not the desperate hand of something looking to hurt others. It’s the gentle hand of a naptime attendant who wants to soothe a sad kid. More so, it’s the reassuring hand of my friend who wants to comfort me. I look up at him to see red and white eyes.

“Are you sure?” I ask hesitantly. He nods quietly.

I reach my hand out and he patiently waits for mine to join his on the verge between light and shadow. The silicone on his hand makes them soft and a room temperature. He gives my hand a little squeeze. “It will be okay, we will make sure of it.” He says reassuringly. I give him an appreciative smile and squeeze his hand back. “Thanks, I think I really needed this.”

I don’t even realize my misty eyes until the ache sets in. I turn away a little to rub them dry, but I’m careful not to let go of Moon. Oddly enough, he is what’s grounding me right now.

I feel a gentle hand on my head patting me soothingly. “It’s okay, you can cry. We will stay as long as it takes for you to feel better.” I’m not sure if it’s the reassurance or the permission to lose it for a moment, but before I know it, I’m sobbing. It’s a frustrated sob that stings my throat and drenches my face as I cry into the hand of my friend. I curl into his hand a bit as I take it with both of mine like it’s a lifeline in a storm. Like it’s the salvation I’ve been waiting for. Like it’s the home I’ve been trying to return to.

He moves the hand on my head slowly to cup my cheek. He doesn’t try to raise my head or force me to look anywhere. Instead, he just rubs his thumb across my cheek as I continue to cry into the night.

Eventually, I take some deep breaths as I continue holding his other hand against my face. He keeps rubbing my cheek all the same. I almost hide behind his hand, not ready to face the next moment. I hesitate to look up at him, I probably look like a mess.

“It will be alright, we will figure this out together.” He says in a quiet and gentle voice. I lean into his hand more and squeeze it tightly. He squeezes back gently.

I finally look up at him hesitantly. Moon looks at me with concerned and gentle eyes. “Promise?” I dare to ask, needing reassurance that I won’t be alone in figuring this out.

Moon leans in a little with a kind smile, holding my cheeks with both his hands as he wipes the tears away, “We promise, starlight.”

"Sun! Bye-bye!"

At first, he didn't think much of it when you spoke, waving goodbye and going back to the tables after handing you over to your parent(s).

Yet they went up to him, and at first he thought they had a serious complaint.

Or maybe he accidentally gave them the wrong child.

But after revealing that you just said your first words, including his name, it clicks in his mind and he's SUPER overjoyed, bouncing on his heels and grinning.

"Oh my gosh I am SO proud of you, starshine!!" He coos, shaking your tiny little hands. "Keep up the great work!!"

If you ever come back to the Pizzaplex when you're older, he's never gonna let you forget that.

Moon

"M...Moon!"

"Yes, little firefly. I'm.....what's that look for?"

Moon stares at your bewildered guardian, who has to explain that they've been trying to get you to say your first words for weeks now, without much success.

You refused to say "Freddy" no matter how many times they've taken you to see him for photo-ops and events. Not even the bear himself could encourage you.

Yet within five seconds of meeting Moon for the first time...you said his name and were eager to go with him.

He's kinda shocked that you weren't immediately scared of him like all the other toddlers.

But he's happy (and definitely smug about it, bragging to Sun 100%).

"The children may like you more...but have any of them ever said their first word was "Sun"? I don't think so~"
