my fatal flaw is that i watch a show , latch onto a side character that is barely explored , and then get endlessly frustrated by the lack of content for them .

Is there a thought process for chattering the entire time you run a dog in agility these days? I'm just thinking of how people say tunnel like 5 times before the dog goes in one?
I mean the last few times I've run Mud, it felt like I hardly needed to say a thing to him and when I did he was freaking on it asap. I even screwed him up a few times because the "here" verbal was too much for the soft turns we needed.

Streaming was originally set apart from cable for three reasons:
no commercials
cheaper subscription
new movies/shows that you can't get elsewhere
This is what they were selling to the public. So when these benefits fall away, why are we still paying for their services? So many people did not switch from cable, they just now essentially pay for two cable services, and that was the big con.
Now they got big funds and big hookups, and they've ensnared us all into a web we feel we can't get out of and so we continue to pay more and more simply to watch a show uninterrupted and not have to look at fucking ads. If I weren't already sharing certain streaming accounts I have with others, I would've cancelled them all by now and I think a lot of people are in the same boat.
I wonder how long until *Net*flicks decides they're going to run a "premium" service on us too. Let me again emphasize the question: how is a streaming service with ads any different than cable tv?? What more is your service offering that sets it apart from cable, why should anyone pay for their services??? "Well, because you can't get this product anywhere el-" now hold on a minute, I can actually and I can do so easily in ways which I will never be held accountable 🏴‍☠️🛳️🌊🏴‍☠️
If you invest in a "basic" streaming service with commercial breaks/ads you've been duped, and you likely feel equally stupid to pay out more to not have them. Truth be told, business and law school entail mostly psychology classes that teach you how to con people while criminalizing others.
And if you didn't hear already, starting in March, they will be cracking down on password sharing on D!sney+ and Hu!u tagging along with N*flix with the claim that the 5 profiles you pay for on your account are being "freeloaded" by people you give your password to who don't live under your roof. If there are only 3 people in my household and I give my pw to 2 people to use those two extra profiles that I PAY FOR monthly, how is that freeloading? You're cheating me out of full use of my account, actually. Especially if 2 of 3 people under my roof barely stream anything on your service monthly.
The piracy economy is booming. There are websites out there that have every show, every movie you could think of, everything hits these sites as soon as the media becomes available for digital streaming on any paid platform and you don't have to download it to watch it. DM anyone who makes gifs for one of these websites, it will change your life.

I am so here for the tenoch thirst omg don’t stop! 😵‍💫🖤
My pretty Pal! As usual, you are on the level. Oh trust me -- once I see this movie, I may lose it. I can't wait to write this namor fic. I think it's appropriate that we're all thirsty bc he lives underwater and that's just called synergy. Love that for us.
To tide us over, I have a few tenoch recs for those interested...
1. Narcos: Mexico - Tenoch is a SCENE STEALER as Rafa. I know this show belongs to Diego Luna, but WOW. You cannot take your eyes off of him. Sexy, unhinged. He's in all of season one and a few eps in season 2. (On Netflix).
Tumblr media
2. El Más Buscando. Bank robberies. Singing. What more could you want? (This one's on Prime and also Flix.)
3. Vive por mi. Tenoch's bit in this is SO good. He's got such an intensity. His eyes alone make everything he's in worth watching. (I haven't found this one on streaming but that doesn't mean it isn't out there.)
Tumblr media
4. Madres. A horror movie! This one's fun. (Watch on Prime.)
Tumblr media
5. Son of Monarchs. I like all the metaphor in this one. Lots of birth, death, rebirth, metamorphosis. It's a beautiful movie. (HBO Max).
6. Fuego Negro. Idk if this is a GOOD movie. But it's intense. I liked it. (Netflix.)
Tumblr media
He's also in a Mon Laferte music video! "Se Me Va a Quemar El Corazón." (Diego Luna was in one, as well!) She's so amazing. I love her.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2023: THE TOP TEN
Hey there, Creatures of the Night! Once again it is that time of year where we recap what films have made the cut of Scream Scene's top ten best horror movies of all time! (all time defined as 1895-1960) If you’re looking for some genuine classics to check out this year, we’ve got you covered, with running times and where to find them!
#10. I Walked With a Zombie (1943)
The second Val Lewton produced film on the list, I Walked With a Zombie is perhaps best described as Jane Eyre in the Caribbean, but what is surprising is that the film is also a well researched depiction of Voodoo practices for 1943. The haunting imagery, sparse sound design, and dreamlike poeticism of this film might make it among the most unique zombie movies you’ve ever seen, made in a time with zombies were supernatural undead slaves, instead of reanimated undead cannibals. Do yourself a favour and check it out - it’s available to buy online in SD for $9.99 from Apple TV, and $14.99 on Amazon Video, Google Play Movies and YouTube. 1h 8m.
#9. The Old Dark House (1932)
James Whale’s definitive take on this traditional mystery thriller formula is a movie that will have you laughing right until the moment it has you screaming. In some ways, it’s a movie of clichés, with the protagonists seeking shelter in an old mansion during a rainstorm in the night and having to deal with the reclusive family they find within. But the dark, brooding cinematography, and truly shocking twists that rivet up the intensity over the running time, all contribute to make this a harrowing watch. It’s one part Rocky Horror Picture Show, one part The Addams Family, and one part The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I’m not kidding. The Old Dark House is currently streaming on AMC+, Criterion Channel, Flix Fling, and Tubi. 1h 10m.
#8. Horror of Dracula (1958)
Hammer Films had been producing X-rated horror and sci-fi content for a while by the time they got around to producing an adaptation of Dracula, but everything they learned from the success of The Curse of Frankenstein they applied tenfold to Dracula. From the subversive opening act to the shockingly graphic (for the time) finale, this film is full of action and excitement, as well as a sexually feral Count played by Christopher Lee for the first time. A Halloween crowd pleaser! Horror of Dracula is available to rent for $4.99 on Amazon Video, Apple TV, Cineplex, Google Play Movies, Microsoft Store, and YouTube. 1h 22m.
#7. The Spiral Staircase (1946)
This RKO classic is another great take on the old dark house subgenre, from noir director Robert Siodmak. A masterpiece of suspense, featuring wonderful production design and dynamite performances from its cast, this movie will draw you in to the world of a mute servant named Helen trapped in a dark manor on a stormy night with a whole cast of lunatics! A forerunner of giallo (no, really!), this classic and classy thriller is not to be missed! The Spiral Staircase is currently streaming on Classix, Flix Fling, and Plex. 1h 23m.
#6. The Fly (1958)
While the 1986 remake may be more well known today, the original rendition of this body horror classic still retains a punch with its central mystery, compelling drama, and traumatic ending. Excellent creature effects and memorable moments like a woman screaming seen through compound eyes cement this as one of the great sci-fi/horror films of its time! The Fly is currently available to rent for $4.99 on Apple TV, Google Play Movies, Microsoft Store, and YouTube. 1h 34m.
#5. Peeping Tom (1960)
While it may come across as fairly tame by today's standards, in 1960 the seminal British horror film Peeping Tom was considered so offensive it single-handedly ended the career of its director, former national treasure Michael Powell. Today, the film still has the power to disturb through its exploration of the relationship between victims, voyeurs, and viewers. Peeping Tom is currently available to stream on Tubi and to rent for $4.99 on Apple TV, Amazon Video, and Microsoft Store. 1h 41m.
#4. Gojira (1954)
Ishiro Honda’s classic giant monster movie, the progenitor of all kaiju and tokusatsu movies to come, is a masterpiece of ingenuity and imagination. But more than that, it’s a powerful statement about the horrors of nuclear war, an angry and relentless funeral dirge mourning for the Japanese lives lost and raging against the American foreign policy that continued to poison Japan with radiation even after the war. Godzilla is an apocalypse personified, the great revenge of the natural world against the hubris of man that has harmed it. But Gojira is also a film about the immense weight of personal and scientific responsibility weighed against the greater good, and its position on the use of weapons of mass destruction is perhaps more nuanced than you’d expect. Don’t let the campy reputation of Godzilla in the West fool you. Clear your mind of that and sit down to watch this powerful black & white epic. Gojira is streaming on Cineverse, Criterion Channel, Midnight Pulp, Plex, and Tubi, and can be rented for $4.99 on Apple TV. 1h 38m.
The American adaptation Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956) is also worth a watch, and is available on The Criterion Channel, Plex, Tubi, and to rent on iTunes. 1h 20m.
#3. Cat People (1942)
Cat People is brilliant. The first of Val Lewton’s horror movies for RKO, it best exemplifies his shadow drenched, suggestive, adult, contemporary, and ambiguous brand of horror. Irena is convinced that if she experiences sexual excitement, she will turn into a black panther and kill the man she loves. Her husband is convinced it’s all in her head. What is the truth? Cat People gives the viewer plenty to chew on while being the first horror movie to understand that less is more, that the monster is scarier if you can’t see it, and also how to pull off a jump scare. You can find this absolute classic to stream on Amazon Prime, and to purchase for $9.99 on Apple TV, Google Play Movies, Microsoft and YouTube. 1h 10m.
#2. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)
Finally dethroned from the number 1 spot after 265 episodes! Early on in the first Hollywood horror craze, Paramount Pictures managed to outdo their main competitor Universal with this masterpiece from director Rouben Mamoulian. With a use of sound, visuals, effects, script, and performance far beyond what most films were doing at the time, this adaptation reigns supreme among other versions of the same story. Fredric March utterly inhabits the dual title role, but it’s Miriam Hopkins’ performance that will stick with you in this superb examination of domestic abuse, alcoholism, and the beast that dwells within us. Currently streaming on the Criterion Channel, and available to rent on Apple TV, Google Play Movies, and YouTube for $4.99. 1h 38m.
#1. Psycho (1960)
It's our new number one! Not a big surprise, as Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho changed the horror genre for decades to come. A low budget thriller based around its two big twists, the film's power is a little muted now that those twists have been thoroughly disseminated through pop culture osmosis, Psycho is still a master class in pacing and tension through its first half, and contains an incredible performance from actor Anthony Perkins. You can rent Psycho on Amazon Video, Apple TV, Google Play Movies, Microsoft Store, and YouTube for $4.99. 1h 49m.
A new top ten with a new number one! Will Psycho keep its throne as long as Jekyll and Hyde did? Keep listening to Scream Scene to find out!

EXCLUSIVE: After setting the stage with its robust line-up of holiday programming, Great American Family is ready to get into the scripted series business.
The channel is launching County Rescue, an action-adventure medical drama starring Julia Reilly (Stranger Things) as an EMT in training who is vying for one of three openings on the team. It also stars Stacey Patino (Keeping Up With the Joneses), Percy Bell (Devotion), Tim Perez-Ross (The Vampire Diaries), Riley Hough (The Resident), Keller Fornes (The Secrets She Keeps), Angel Luis (Law & Order), Kristin Wollett (Random Tropical Paradise), and Brett Varvel (American Underdog).
The five-episode first season will premiere on Great American Pure Flix beginning February 16 and on Great American Family beginning February 17. Great American Pure Flix is the company’s streaming service that was rebranded in September 2023.
Great American Family is also planning a Q1 launch of mystery franchises — original movies centered on the lighter side of mysteries and whodunnits and starring fan favorites from the network’s family of talent. The first installment in the mystery wheel will be announced later this week.
“We are continuing to build on the phenomenal growth of our media brand and are excited to now fully capitalize on the synergies now available with Sony and Great American Pure Flix. Our portfolio of content is a trusted source of family friendly and faith-based entertainment, and our 2023 results greatly exceeded our expectations,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media. “We are looking forward to having a positive impact on viewers and the entertainment business by creating quality content that can be enjoyed by the entire family.”
New original series set to premiere on Great American Pure Flix include Destination Heaven and Shadrach, as well as the season two return of Going Home, which premiered January 5.
Great American Media also announced it will produce a record number of original movies across the company’s services in 2024. This follows the company’s record in 2023, when it produced 21 original holiday movies for Great American Christmas while launching the franchise’s continuous Christmas programming earlier than any other network. It continued through New Year’s Day with the exclusive cable television broadcast of the 135th Tournament of Roses Parade.
The company will continue to develop and produce specials that promote emotional connections, such as Great American Rescue Bowl with its mission to save pet lives through adoption, premiering Super Bowl Sunday, February 11.

been watching Star Trek TNG s5...
and it's just such a nice show... probably my comfort show. I found it for streaming online since I don't have the subscription. I left off in season 5 while it was on n-flix and it was easy to find my place again.
first one I watched was "The Perfect Mate" which, first of all, stars the preternaturally elegant Famke Janssen. (link to the Wikipedia page for the episode) Kamala is an empath and she uses her ability to sense others emotions to become the perfect complement to any man she spends time with. First she kisses Riker (because obv) but then she's chaperoned around by Data and flirts with Worf (loved that). But then she spends time with Picard and they kind of slowly fall in love and she ends up accidentally bonding with him instead of her intended husband. And then she leaves. I just think that Patrick Stewart is an amazing actor and I love that he had this amazing romantic story with a woman whom he barely has any physical contact with. It was so bittersweet. I loved it.
it also immediately spawned an AU idea which I would probably end up doing for QuiAni since they are my brain rot right now.
I was also moved by "The Next Phase" to wonder if anyone had ever written Geordi/Ro Laren and I could not find it! the only tagged slash fic for them on AO3 has them in a crossover fic with someone else. I can imagine there either being untagged/incorrectly tagged fic or it remaining on another fic archive.
but I'm kind of stunned that there's nothing. in that episode, they're both put 'out of phase' with the normal sensing world, no one can see or touch them. but they can see and touch each other which leads to a electric moment where they reach out hands and touch them mid-air like this:🙏
and I thought maybe they could have sex about it. no dice.
then I watched "The Inner Light" and just... 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I cried so much about that one. good grief. it was great. that's the kind of sci-fi I really enjoy.

In 1830, forty years to the day since the last manifestation of their dreaded vampirism, the Karnstein heirs use the blood of an innocent to bring forth the evil that is the beautiful Mircalla, or as she was in 1710, Carmilla.

In the Seventies, Hammer Films struggled to find its way as horror films moved away from gothic horror into modern-day terrors; however, the company famous for Dracula and Frankenstein did earn some success with a trio of films referred to as The Karnstein Trilogy. The Grue Crew settles in to revisit the middle entry, Lust for a Vampire, which follows Vampire Lovers (1970) and leads into Twins of Evil (1971). Unfortunately, the film was plagued with misfortune from the onset: both Peter Cushing and Ingrid Pitt refused to return; the original director, Terence Fisher, suffered injuries when he was hit by a car and was replaced at the last minute by Jimmy Sangster; the director and the writer clashed with producers who insisted on including the pop song “Strange Love.” Even co-star Ralph Bates called the feature, “One of the worst films ever made.” Certainly, there must be some highlights. Certainly…
At the time of this writing, Lust for a Vampire is available to stream from  Shudder, AMC+, Tubi, and Flix Fling. The movie is also available on physical media as a Blu-ray from Shout! Factory.
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. In two weeks, the next episode, chosen by Doc, will be Kingdom of the Spiders (1977). William Shatner and 5,000 spiders! What could go wrong?

If these movies were junk, Smith never denied it: “Trash,” he proclaimed, ^is the material of creators." Secret-flix cannot be remade but only exhumed. "The Memoirs of Maria Montez," first published in Film Culture in the heady aftermath of Flaming Creatures's spring 1963 release, suggests - no less than Smith's chef d'oeuvre - a ritual set in a derelict movie studio. (In this case, the star is a decomposing corpse.) The trash heap is a recurring Smith trope. A collector of cultural detritus, a connoisseur of "moldiness," he was an aesthete with an acute sense of collapse and failure. In his oft-cited manifesto "Capitalism of Lotusland," a Section of the 1977 performance-piece Irrational Landlordism of Bagdad, Smith refers to a Free Paradise of abandoned objects (located, significantly, near the community movie sets). In the 1978 Semiotext(e) interview which illuminates the second half of his career as "The Perfect Film Appositeness of Maria Montez” does the first, Smith envisions a city Organized around a giant junkyard. “I think this center of unused objects and unwanted objects would become a center of intellectual activity. Things would grow up around it.”

It’s official: Butch Hartman’s The Garden begins streaming January 1 on Pure Flix! 🦁🐑🪴🌈 Check out our trailer! The whole team has put so much passion, joy, and hard work into every episode, and I’m so proud to be a writer on this show. This is a Christian animated series with ages 3-8 in mind, and I know these lessons can inspire more love, confidence, purpose, and laughter in all kids and adults, something I aim to do in every show. Congratulations to the whole cast and crew on a successful red carpet Los Angeles premiere last night. Very excited for everyone to watch soon! Stay tuned for more updates! 👀
