Okay but in all seriousness the finch app is doing wonders for my depression it’s helping me make it through the day

November was a Bad November to a degree I haven't felt in years. Depression at the can't-handle-basic-care-tasks-and-some-ADLs level. Work or nothing.

Somehow (I wish I could remember how), I came across the Finch app, which is like if you took the concept of re-parenting and made it a tamagotchi basically? Your "Finch" is a little birb that learns and explores and grows as you accomplish goals. The app is free and has no ads (premium offerings are available but don't seem necessary at all, and there's also a sponsorship option where you can buy a premium subscription that will be raffled off to a stranger with financial need); it's cute as hell; the "goals" start VERY simply and modestly and include (in the defaults) things like "literally survive the day" and "step outside my home." You can add as many goals as you like, schedule repeats, all that good stuff. But you can also - and I believe this is crucial - put a cartoon bird in a snow monster costume, and learn that it has beef with The Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar.

It's legitimately fast, easy, helpful, and fun? All apps should be this way.

that wonderful feeling when you feel like you can press these guys again after a while of not being able to <3

i downloaded finch a couple days ago, which is a self-care gamification app with built-in white noise and gentle exercise and breathing routines. you have a little virtual bird friend who goes on adventures and learns things and chats with you & you can buy them outfits and decorate their room with the rewards earned by doing the self-care things. overall i've found it cute and helpful for hacking some of my executive dysfunction, especially because a lot of the tasks are like, move ONE thing, do ONE dish, stand for TEN seconds, etc.

but anyway when the app did an emotional check-in tonight, i clicked the worst feeling for the first time (because i fucked up my hip and have been crying in pain for ~2 hours). i didn't realize your emotional state affects the app's suggested tasks, but then my homepage immediately gave me:

and when i scrolled down i discovered that the reward for doing my daily goals had gone up from usual & my pet was coming home sooner from her adventure (at which point i could pet her & talk to her), which.

well. i immediately fucking Dissolved.

Finch getting too difficult these days

Anyone else use the Finch app? I had my bird do a Crowley cosplay after I finally was able to get the black Angel wings.

We started using a really cute app called Finch, we mostly use it for mental health and some basic chores and things we need to do for self care, but it’s easily customisable to use it for other things as well!

Some of our system kids really enjoy it a lot, it’s very cute and kind of tamagotchi-like in a way. You grow your finch by taking care of things and you can buy outfits and furniture and share nice words with friends too.
