Espasol is an authentic filipino food.It is a type of rice cake that is made of glutinous rice flour cooked in coconut milk.I love eating this at school when I was just a grade school student. And, eating this somehow brings back some good childhood memories. I hope you’ll like this video, please consider sharing and subscribing if you haven’t had yet. Different kakanin (rice cake) deserts at my big fat Filipino reunion.
A core memory is being the same height as a wedding banquet table and walking off with handfuls of palitaw to gorge on as a kid
My favorite is the white palitaw made with pounded sticky rice or mochi flour but the kutsinta, the brown rice cake was also delicious, it has an amazing chewy texture. Both are coated in fresh grated coconut 🥥
If you're interested in recipes, this month's newsletter will include my Lola Inday's Palitaw recipe just sign up on my author website !

Wanna know what we call this rice snack?
Tumblr media
It's PUTO.
hehehehehehe
See, it's funny because it means something else in Spanish.
Anyway, its natural is color is white (because rice) but it can also come in green, yellow, violet, & pink. Idk if it's artificial food coloring tho. The yellow topping is cheese for flavor since rice is bland. It's a good Filipino snack. This is a small version of it, btw.

Translating Rain World food to Filipino cuisine
#11 Puto (Steamed Rice Cake)
A dessert made from fermented popcorn rice dough, Rain Deer milk, sugar, nectar extract and baking powder. It is steamed to make a spongy texture then topped with a slice of Rain Deer cheese. Can come in a variety of colors and flavors.
Slugcat Remarks: Gourmand: Be careful of where you use this word. Some may take it as an offense! Aside from that, it's a fun dish. You can make it shaped like a slugcat and add little dots for the eyes. I once made a batch that represents each of my friends.
Nightcat: When I saw a little me as a little cake, I was perplexed. Eating yourself... Maybe I'm thinking too much. I should focus on how good it tastes.
Monk: They look like cupcakes! But not as sweet!

I sort of have an idea for an imagine. What about a Filipino!reader where she loves to eat and her favorite is puto(the spiders probably always see her eating). So one time somebody like Miguel asks her what she was eating and she says "puto" with a warm smile and all and then Miguel is just baffled 😨 (you add like the other spiders who understand spanish in the scene).
The thing is puto is literally a cuss word in Spanish-speaking countries. It can either mean a rude word for a coward, a prostitute, or a slur for a gay man. And puto in Filipino is just rice cakes 😋.
And so Miguel and the others thought you were cussing him when in reality you were painfully oblivious and unaware. And miscommunication and culture clash/shock.
Also, pasukan sa eskwelahan na naman 😭😭.
LOL HI POOOOOO, for real, nasa bakasyon mode pa me mgee, also omg that reminds me of the cute ass yt short i saw of a filipino mom teaching her kid about the dessert in front of her colombian dad LMAOOOOO i love it and I HOPE YOU LOVE THIS <333
(reblogs are greatly appreciated, it helps get my content out there! if you guys like what you see, please reblog it too <:D)
you said... what? — miguel o'hara x filipino!reader
you were happily snacking on your favorite childhood classic snack, a steamed plump rice cake that you bought from your home dimension before heading over to HQ. as you were just minding your own business, stuffing your face with the delightful treat, miguel had noticed you being at peace eating. he looked at the box of assorted colored rice cakes, some were white while others were purple, with some having bits of cheese on them.
"whaddya got there?" he asked as he looked at the rice cakes you had with you. you stopped biting into the food and looked up at miguel with a bright smile. "ah, my favorite dessert snack from back home in the philippines." you explained. miguel nodded as he looked at you. "what's it called?" "ah, puto." you answered him with a sweet smile, which starkly contrasted with miguel's contorted wince. "um... come again?" he asked you in a softer voice this time. "ah, i said it's called 'puto'." you repeated, but miguel staggered backwards a little as he was still in disbelief that he heard what he thought he heard. you handed him a piece, asking him to try it. "i love having some puto in my mouth, y'know? it fills me up just right after a long day." you said with a sigh of contentment as you dug into the rice cake again, smiling widely as miguel looked at the snack and back at you, unsure if he's comfortable with saying the snack's name.
he took a bite and could agree with you, the snack certainly was delicious... though the name kind of made miguel a little taken aback. he does respect that you and your people call it as it is, he'll just remind himself it isn't a dirty word, it's the name of this quaint little dessert that you loved dearly in this context. but if he's being honest right now, he doesn't wanna think at the moment, he just wants to savor the goodness of this snack you really love with you, regardless of what it was named.

half-filipino shidou headcanons bc he's half-filipino to me until canon says otherwise
"chinoy ka ba?" ("are you chinoy?" chinese + pinoy/filipino = chinoy)
"hindi. jinoy ako 👖😜" ("no. i'm jinoy" idk if there's an actual term for japanese + filipino but yeah)
"PAANO KA NAGASALITA NG EMOJI????" ("HOW ARE YOU SPEAKING EMOJI????")
(if i made any mistakes it's cuz i'm whitewashed asf)
thought it was funny asf when tatsuki fujimoto pretended to be filipino
no one is safe from "knock-knock/who's there?/ako maba/ako maba who?" jokes ("ako maba who" sounds like "ako mabaho" which means "i stink")
he taught charles how to play nanay-tatay (the filipino equivalent of patty cake i guess???)
demands rin calls him "kuya" (literally translates to "older brother" but in this context it would be equivalent to hua cheng calling xie lian "gege" in heaven official's blessing)
shidou: have you ever had puto before?
sae: WHAT
("puto"/"puta" is spanish for "whore". puto is a filipino steam rice (cup)cake though. we do use "puta" but it's usually used in the phrase "putang ina mo"/"tangina mo"/"tangina". the literal translation is "your mom is a whore", but it's basically a catch-all swear word. you can use it for "fuck", "son of a bitch", "bitch", "motherfucker", etc)
shidou visited sae in spain once and stole a bunch of stuff as "revenge" for colonization
when he commits petty crimes in japan he makes the same excuse
he will make the same excuse if he ever goes to the USA
his grandparents on his mom and dad's side don't get along because. yeah
he terrorizes the italians by listing off the recipe for filipino spaghetti
"yeah, we use brown sugar, banana ketchup, hotdogs-"
the ubers get obliterated on the spot

Sean Diaz x Reader HCs:
Reader is Filipina
Tumblr media
Note: so sorry for not posting. First year of college and its kicking my ass a bit but at least i have As and Bs. This is a very obviously self-indulgent thing I wrote (b/c I think it is too often that the reader is assumed to be a white woman) to destress so uh… enjoy! Sorry again for falling off the face of the Earth.
fem!filipina!reader, fluff
-Yours and Sean’s family will get along pretty well
-Because Filipinos and Mexicans have such similar cultures (we in the colonized by Spain gang) your parent(s) warm up to Sean pretty quickly!
-You both share a mutual hatred for the Spaniard conquistadors.
-Comic misunderstanding of what the word “puto” means in Tagalog vs. Spanish
you bring some freshly steamed rice cakes (puto) that your mom made over to Sean’s house.
Sean and Esteban are sitting by the counter when you come in. You excitedly say “Hey! I brought puto, want to try?”
Both Esteban and Sean look at you with wide eyes.
”Would we like to try WHAT now?” ”puto!” you hold up the rice cakes, “Filipino rice cakes!”
Esteban starts smiling, trying to hold back his laughter.
Sean says, “Y/n, that is not what that word means.”
”That’s what it means in Tagalog. Does it mean something different in Spanish?”
Esteban is snickering at this point. “Yes. It means something very different.” He laughs harder.
Sean pinches the bridge of his nose.
After they explain to you what “puto” means in Spanish, your jaw drops.
”Oh my God I’m so so sorry I had no idea; it genuinely just means ‘steamed rice cakes’ in Tagalog I swear!”
Sean and Esteban both laugh. “Está bien, hija. It at least makes a funny story.”
-You call Sean “mahal ko” and Sean calls you “mi amor”
-He brings you Mexican food and you bring him Filipino food
-Like every non-filipino, he instantly LOVES lumpia when you first introduce it to him
-You mom made an extreme excess of lumpia, so she gave him a freezer bag full of premade lumpia rolls. You help him deep fry them one day after school (he wants to share with his dad and Daniel) and his whole house smells like frying oil afterwards.
-Both of you talk about similarities and differences between Tagalog and Spanish for funsies.
-Playful arguments on which country does leche flan better
-You introduce him to ube-flavored sweets
-One time you bring ube Otap cookies to their house and Daniel ends up gobbling them all up (to Sean’s dismay)
-Cursing at him in Tagalog thinking it would be funny but he understands the gist of what you said
“Putangina mo”
“Hey!”
“Hehehe”
-He teaches you Spanish and you teach him some Tagalog
-Agressive pinoy pride >:3
-he makes fun of you for being short (not our fault that the average height is 5’1!!!)
-Bonding over cultural similarities
-y’all are such an it couple bc poc4poc relationships that are also interracial are such a slay
I realize that the LIS2 fandom is already very niche (even within the LIS community) so these HCs are even more niche but… idc! Writing this made me happy lol.
I’ll try to fulfill some of the requests I got back in September! Sorry for not getting to them yet.
Hope you enjoyed! :3

HELLO
ok so basically, and, Im sorry if some of these slashers arent those you write for. But Michael, Hannibal, Thomas, and Brahms with a filipino s/o who LOVES baking them treats from their country? I think this is esp interesting with Hannibal since the guy is used to european cuisine and probably hasnt tried anything southeast asian. To make your job easier Im giving you a list of pinoy pastries;
bibingka, cassava cake((highly recommend this to you)), pan de coco, pandan cakes((Pandan is a lovely flavor and I highly recommend)), leche flan, and taho ^^ Hope you enjoy this ask sshahs Sorry if its long :,,))
Slashers x Filipino!Reader who bakes
Notes: I am so sorry for taking so long. I literally say this for every ask, but holy shit this took me so long to get to. I've had cassava cake before, and it's sooooo good. Hope you enjoy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Michael Myers vs Bibingka
You should know by now that Michael has a huge sweet tooth, and if you don't... what are you even doing
Anything that isn't sweet enough is automatically ruled out, so when he sees you using rice to cook desert, he refuses to eat
You had to explain to him that bibingka was sweet, with banana leaves, coconut milk and plenty of sugar, but he refused
Although Michael was raised outside of social norms, he learned enough before being admitted sanitarium to know what foods are and aren't sweet, and rice isn't sweet
Your best bet is to bake it when Michael is out the house and serve it to him when he gets home
When he does eat it, he falls in love
With it, not you. Duh, Y/N
He'd want to watch you bake all the time after eating it and would probably never leave you alone until you bake what he wants
You're sweating nervously when he asks you to bake him bibingka again, fully aware of how upset he'll be if he finds out that there's rice in it
Que 'accidently' falling asleep
Hannibal Lecter vs Pandan Cake
Whether you like it or not, he will try to criticize
He likes to cook more than he likes to bake, but he has enough knowledge about it know what you did right and wrong (mostly he likes to point out the wrong though)
He's tried your cooking and baking before and he admits it's pretty good, but he's never tried any dishes from the Philippines
A petty part of him is a bit jealous of your wider pallet of foods in your knowledge, but he was better than letting that known
He'd never seen you so happy when he asked you to cook something from the Philippines
You decided to bake him pandan cake, a simple, sponge-like cake with a unique taste
He wasn't very impressed with the presentation, and he made that pretty clear with the barely audible 'tsk'
He was surprised to see the green interior, and the smell was mouth-salvating
The moment he tasted it, he wanted to take back all the petty comments he said about your baking (albeit inside his head)
This would probably be the only time he'd compliment you, never having tasted something so sweet and soft
He'd say something simple like 'It's amazing darling,' but he wanted to say so much more. Too bad he's too prideful
That being said, he would wait for the day you bake again with eagerness
Brahms Heelshire vs Taho
Petty
So damn petty
"Ew, what's that."
It's not even a question, just a clarification of his disgust
British boy does not like something flavorful (not surprising)
He didn't even try it
Even when you looked really sad
You tried to get him to at least try it, but he was hard-set on not going near it
When you finally give up, he actually starts to feel bad
"I just wanted you to try something new, you know? Something that comes from my culture and maybe I could even teach you. I just want us to bond mo-"
"STOP TRYING TO GUILT ME INTO TRYING IT!"
You simply looked at him with a sad face, fully aware he was about to crack
"Ugh- Fine. I'll try it."
He loved it.
So much.
But he refused to tell you
"It's fine. But I'm not eating anymore!"
He snuck down at night and ate the rest
