The chocobros are such a funny friend group. Noctis and his three boyfriends. Prompto and three of his crushes. Gladio and his three autistic friends. Ignis and the three guys he babysits.

thinkin about how Gladio is literally the only one of the Chocobros who's actually good at socializing and also the only one who's neurotypical, according to me
Prompto acts like a social butterfly, but he's actually riddled with anxiety and imposter syndrome at all times, that boy is never calm
Noctis couldn't give a fuck less about socializing, Prompto is his only friend who wasn't literally assigned to him and he likes it that way
Ignis can socialize because he was trained to...it's his job. however, need i remind everyone:
that man is sooo autistic. great at masking, yes, but does he actually know what he's doing? no
that leaves Gladio, who (in Japanese) has an extremely jovial voice & demeanor, who is capable of being a playful (and respectful) flirt, and who doesn't mind talking with people (while being perfectly comfortable doing so)
convinced none of them would ever get anywhere without Gladio

Final Fantasy XV - art history meta
a symbol of romanticism: sylleblossom - the blue flower:
final fantasy xv's sylleblossom has a very special design and meaning. Let's talk about what it stands for and how it can be connected to art history.
More below the cut.
Luna and sylleblossoms
In general, blue sylleblossoms can be seen as a symbol for Luna in ffxv. They grow in Tenebrae and are its national flower, she has a garden full of them. Blue sylleblossoms are her favorite flowers. She gifts Noctis a pressed flower in their notebook and it is a strong visual symbol in her death scene. According to the final fantasy wiki: "Different color variants symbolize different things, but the blue version represents "a heart that does not give up" and "sincerity"." But there might be even more to it.
The blue flower and romanticism
The blue flower is considered an important symbol in art history, and especially of romanticism, an art movement of the 19th Century. It represents the romantic longing for the unattainable and unreachable, the infinite and the unconditional, it is also often interpreted as a connection between man and nature. In addition, the Blue Flower developed into a symbol of wandering, which is also characteristic of the Romantic era (and a main theme in ffxv too :) - the word wanderlust got its meaning in the Romantic Period btw). This motif can be traced back to an old German legend that says that one could find the blue miracle flower at night and would be richly rewarded. Consequently, this miracle flower represents a cause that is difficult to achieve, but longed for by many.
Here's a cornflower as an example. I painted a sylleblossom recently and noticed the similar petal shape and color.
The legend
The symbol goes back to a legend and the poet Novalis. The blue flower embodies the longing for an unattainable thing. In the story, a young man dreams about a blue flower that calls to him and he longs to find it. When he finally sees it, he sees a tender face in the flower. This - as is shown in the course of the story - is that of his later fiancé. In addition, the text teems with symbols typical of romanticism. In romantic works, threshold motifs are often used, i.e. motifs that mark a boundary between reality and the dreamlike, such as twilight, moonlight, or the view into the distance, which is usually carried by an enormous longing of the protagonist.
Noctis and Luna
When we look at Noctis and Luna's relationship, we can find a lot of these motifs. The longing, the wandering and looking into the distance. Luna seems always out of reach but they long to be together. We see Noctis looking at the moon in old previews and when Luna says farewell she tells him to "look to the distance, know that I am there". Even their names represent typical romantic symbols (night and moon).
Night and moon are also typical subjects in romanticism. I really like the similarities here between the official artwork of the ffxv piano collection and the painting by C.D. Friedrich.
Luna's death
Here's a screenshot of the dreamlike death sequence and another painting by C.D. Friedrich, who is one of the most recognizable Romantic painters.
One more interesting thing I'd like to point out is the topic of death in romantic paintings and Luna's death scene. I think it's interesting that you can see ruins and a gate behind Luna. It looks like Tenebrae or maybe Altissia but the gate behind her stands out. In romantic artworks, ruins can stand for the past and especially gates represent the transition into the afterlife. We can find several threshold motifs in this scene. In ffxv, it might show that Luna and Noct are inbetween the world of the living and the dead in that moment. Luna then goes into the afterlife (in the direction of the gate) while Noctis is pulled back into life.
The flower turns into the ring, which shows us that her calling has been fulfilled.
I'm not sure if the references about the romantic movement in ffxv were intentional or not, but in any case it was fun to think about it :). I hope you enjoyed this short meta analysis and look into some art history :)

🗡️ Final Fantasy XV: Myers Briggs Types 🗡️
🗡️ Noctis Lucis Caelum [ISTP] The Pragmatist
“ISTPs are loyal to their causes and beliefs, and are firm believers that people should be treated with equity and fairness. Although they do not respect the rules of the "System", they follow their own rules and guidelines for behavior faithfully. They will not take part in something which violates their personal laws. ISTPs are extremely loyal and faithful to their "brothers".” (Source: Perosnality Page)
📸 Prompto Argentum [ENTP] The Visionary
“The ENTP is characteristically entrepreneurial and may be quick to share a new business idea or invention. They are confident and creative, and typically excited to discuss their many ingenious ideas. The ENTP’s enthusiasm for innovation is infectious, and they are often good at getting other people on board with their schemes. However, they are fundamentally “big-picture” people, and may be at a loss when it comes to recalling or describing details. They are typically more excited about exploring a concept than they are about making it reality, and can seem unreliable if they don’t follow through with their many ideas.” (Source: Truity)
🔥 Ignis Scientia [INTJ] The Mastermind
“The INTJ's interest in dealing with the world is to make decisions, express judgments, and put everything that they encounter into an understandable and rational system. Consequently, they are quick to express judgments. Often they have very evolved intuitions, and are convinced that they are right about things. Unless they complement their intuitive understanding with a well-developed ability to express their insights, they may find themselves frequently misunderstood.” (Source: Personality Page)
🛡️ Gladiolus Amicitia [ESTJ] The Guardian
“The ESTJ puts forth a lot of effort in almost everything that they do. They will do everything that they think should be done in their job, marriage, and community with a good amount of energy. He or she is conscientious, practical, realistic, and dependable. While the ESTJ will dutifully do everything that is important to work towards a particular cause or goal, they might not naturally see or value the importance of goals which are outside of their practical scope. However, if the ESTJ is able to see the relevance of such goals to practical concerns, you can bet that they'll put every effort into understanding them and incorporating them into their quest for clarity and security.” (Source: Truity)
*Back at it again on my Final Fantasy obsession. But in all seriousness I’ve been working on their individual profiles.

ardyn exists to make verstael's life a living hell, he hates that man on so many levels and there's so much to unpack with how ardyn came to realize that verstael gaslit him into so many things? and ok it's too late for ardyn to go back and UNDO the damage done on that front, but my GOD is he angry about it.
just like bahamut, verstael backed ardyn into a corner and left him with little options. ardyn only knew of the world what verstael showed him for the LONGEST TIME. he was likely given SPECIFIC people to daemonify and take memories from, which inevitably would start a process of corrupting him beyond him being MAD at somnus, and by the time he goes to destroy things on founder's day, he's already at a breaking point where instead of saying "fuck you bahamut, i'll do my FIRST CALLING" he says "fuck you bahamut, i'm going to KILL EVERYONE"
that in itself loops into ardyn trying desperately to resist his fate and still walking right into it, so yeah bahamut did that but verstael got him to that horrible mentality to fall for bahamut's bullshit in the first place and ardyn will never forget that. ever.

Okei I have to ask... Last day I see in Youtube comment in 'Ravus Aeterna' video someone writes 'Ravus is so interesting but he doesn't have scenes. If he has more scenes he will be the Artorias of FFXV'' I don't play Dark Souls but I knows a little of Artorias so my question is... What's your opinion about that comment?#GiveRavusmorescenesplease
Oooh, that is a really cool comparison, actually! Funny that you bring up Artorias, because he’s one of my favorite Soulsborne icons across the FromSoft games. Have a little figurine and everything that I love and cherish.
I can see a lot of similarities between the two of them overall, but contrary to thought... Artorias only had, like, 40 seconds of screentime. But the major difference is that you got a crap ton of lore hidden throughout Dark Souls – something that Final Fantasy XVI should have done to really cover its bases when it comes to plot holes. I definitely would have made me log another 20+ hours into the game just meandering to find little juicy secrets and lore pieces hidden within items and locale details, you know?
But I digress. The similarities between Artorias the Abysswalker and Ravus Nox Fleuret the High Commander Butthead, is kinda cool! Both are knights who are badasses with a single sword, both like dogs, both turn into gooey abyss boys, both get wrecked by the MC after they wrecked you seven-hundred times (no? Just me?) --- the list of similarities goes on!
Okay, I joke a lot when I simplify it, but legit – the deep dive into the lore of these two is rad, so the comment really does hold up a little bit:
Both were, of course, knights and soldiers. But both also have groups that, in a way, serve/follow them – with Artorias commanding Gywn’s army before eventually inspiring the Abyss Watchers and Ravus eventually leading the Niflheim army. Artorias may have had a much more pleasant group of supporters, but Ravus too had his own influence as time passed.
Both wield the power of darkness on their side due to some aspect of corruption to them when they fight – before they turn fully corrupted, that is. Artorias's sword is cursed by the Abyss after travelling in and out of it. Meanwhile, Ravus’s arm is supposedly corrupted, as it’s realized that Magitek stems from Daemon power and scourge magic essentially.
Speaking of arms... Both have crippled LEFT arm. Ravus of course had his burned by the Ring of Lucii and Artorias had his broken when trying to protect Sif from the creatures of the Abyss after being defeated by Manus. It’s why you see Artorias in his signature fighting stance – as he used to wield the Cleaning Greatshield before that.
They both have some sort of closely associated canine companion – with Artorias having Sif and Ravus having Pryna and Umbra (to a degree).
Both ultimately succumb to the darkness/abyss at some point, and yet both were still recognized as heroes after their death. Artorias was killed by the Chosen Undead after becoming fully corrupted, but he was still honored as a hero by most – enough to allow the Abyss Watchers to use him as their inspiration of sorts. Meanwhile after Ravus’s death, Noctis and the others found themselves with a great deal of respect for Ravus – especially when knowing he was attempting to help Noctis and the others before he was ultimately killed.
In general, I think Artorias’s lore in Dark Souls is fantastic. And when you compare Ravus to it, it’s rather interesting to see overall. So yes! I can’t help but nod with that comment and go ‘Yeah... That sounds aight.’ -u-

RegClar
Okay. I know why people ship them, but I don't, at least not romantically. They are extremely important to each other, but I like it better when it's a platonic (if sometimes queerplatonic) devotion. I like Clarus having a little bit more of a life than just Regis, which is what I fear it can fall into otherwise. Not that things being unwise stops love, I understand (intellectually), but I just like it better not.
Everyone keep having fun shipping them, though! Not trying to dictate anything.
ALT
Explanation:
- They've both lost so much and anticipate losing more, and I'm pretty sure Regis has only told Clarus about the latter. That plus their devotion to duty (which for Clarus is Regis almost completely) means they are very much co-dependent. If one falls, I'm not sure the other survives. That said, the same might be said for their kids - I'm not sure either would survive Noctis's death or Iris's, or maybe even Gladio's. So they do have other anchors. Hence the "maybe" on codependent.
- See above for romantic feels.
- I'm pretty sure Clarus rarely tells Regis no, and Regis needs so much help with running the kingdom and his life that he will take every bit of time Clarus (the duty-bound workaholic) will give, which, uh, probably doesn't help each other. That said, I think if Regis really did go off the deep end, Clarus would stop him, even kill him (and probably himself). So not quite the worst worst.
Sorry?

Kingsglaive Maps
Maps!
Thank you all for your patience! RL has been up to its normal tricks, but we have been working away just to spite it. Now, after much teasing, the long-awaited map analysis post!
We’ll start with some of the maps in the Kingsglaive briefing room. Some of these are familiar, and some of them are…less so.
Thanks so much to @starjunco who grabbed the screenshots and made the comparison graphics. Any images not from the movie are courtesy of the wiki.
Lucis Map
First off is a pretty standard map of Lucis. It matches the in-game map pretty well, except that Cavaugh and Insomnia have been sized up and shifted north.
In fact, Insomnia is laughably oversized if you consider Lucis to be continent size, even allowing for projection distortions (and regular projection distortions seem unlikely given the uniformity of the walls in the map). Likely it’s exaggerated for propaganda/tradition reasons. Given its location and lack of annotation, it’s likely not being used for actual reference. That said, the maps are also just wildly inconsistent regarding the placement and relative sizes of the continents/islands.
Behold! As best you can, at least, given the darkness of the in-game map.
It is also interesting that this map seems to exclude the parts of the outer islands, both east and west. Whichever side you think Galahd is on, it appears to often suffer the fate of New Zealand.
Political Map
The map on the left, which appears to be a political map divided into regions, doesn’t seem to match the world as we know it. It’s likely an easter egg, actually, because of its close resemblance to an early attempt at the FFXV map from the developers:
That said, echos of this map can be found in the world as we know it, from the odd bay on the eastern side of Tenebrae to the rough shape of the island of Cavaugh on the right edge.
World Map
Speaking of the “actual” world of Eos, the map behind Libertus seems to be just that, though the angle and the distance make it difficult to determine many details.
Troop Movement
Forgive the fragmentation of this one, but the pesky glaives actually doing plot stuff in this scene kept getting in the way of this map and the next.
Judging by the first image over Tredd’s shoulder, this appears to show anticipated landfall in Cavaugh of troops, likely Imperial ones. If this map is more than just dressing, it implies a much more imminent threat on the Crown City than just the existence of the Diamond Weapon.
Seeing the map from further away (and blurry, but we will blame Nyx and Tredd for hogging the focus for that), we see there are actually two (anticipated?) lines of attack into Cavaugh.
Interestingly, this map shows the larger and more northern Cavaugh position. Perhaps it was moved in the game to better fit on the map? Actually, Cavaugh here might be even larger than in the other map of Lucis in this room.
WHO IS MAKING THESE MAPS? DID BAHAMUT KILL ALL THE SURVEYORS?
The dots seem to indicate individual armies or commands, which also has interesting implications for the organization of the Imperial Army and possibly of Insomnian intelligence.
Mainland Lucis - Positions
On the far left, there is another blurry map that seems to show a close-up of the lower “staging” region in the previous map, with hints of red around the peninsula, and possibly around the disc of Cauthess. This could be further illustration of detailed Imperial positions, or could indicate where the Kingsglaive had been posted before they were pulled back.
Globe
And how could we miss our other favorite easter egg, the globe proving Eos is, indeed, round. Or at least some world is. ^_^
(If you don’t recognize what that world is, I’d recommend a second look)
Nyx’s Corkboard map
It’s very hard to see this through every interesting detail that Nyx has piled on top of it, but there is a map as the bottom layer of Nyx’s Corkboard.
Starjunco has taken a good look at it here, but for a quick summary:
Here is Nyx’s corkboard. The map we’re referring to is the black square with gold images on it covering the upper right corner of the board, underneath the articles, ticket, sticky notes, and pictures. In the lower right of the map, just under the picture of young Nyx and Libs playing in Galahd is what appears to be the compass:
You can see the landmass is covered in a grid and otherwise unmarked, which is an interesting choice. It’s anyone’s guess what the original purpose of this map was, but now it appears to show the edge of Niflheim around the picture of Selena and Mama Ulric:
And Lucis is covered up by most of the images. Compare it with the image of the continent found in Episode Ardyn, where the landmasses are much further apart, but the shape of the Western islands match what is found near the bouquet above:
Also of note is the small silver “x” that appears above the pin in the picture of a younger Nyx and Libertus in their uniforms. Is this where they are from, or where they first fought, or something else?
Opening Map
Our last map from the movie is the one from the opening narration. This one seems to show Niflheim’s advance across Lucis, taking more and more territory, though in the game the Imperial presence doesn’t seem quite as entrenched as this gradual increase might imply. That is a whole different discussion, though!
It is nice to get the name for the Lucinia Sound, though, as well as the road maps. Enjoy speculating on what those might imply about cities and development!

GET TO KNOW THE WRITER - VAL EDITION !
what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? i first played ffxv back in the fall of 2017 and fell head over heels in love with the game. to this day i don’t think there’s ever been a cast of characters that’s had such a lasting impact on me as the boys have, and at this point ever will. i actually first started off writing prompto, sometime in early 2018 and shortly thereafter kind of fizzled out of that because i was new and super shy and didn’t really know anyone in the community. i was around 18/19 then and actually took a break from tumblr for a little while, but always kept in touch with the xv community on twitter/instagram so the love i had never went away. fast forward to 2020 and after replaying the game i decided to pick up noctis who at that point had been my end all comfort character for a few years. he very quickly became my little pincushion and then unintentionally a processing tool i used to process a lot of issues in my own life. i notice a lot of nuance in my old notes and ramblings that 100% reflect my struggles at that time and its like huh! wow! didnt know it did that. regardless, noctis is the muse i hold most dearly to my heart and someone i will love for the rest of my life. < he 3
is there anything you don’t like to write? ive seen it all brother. i can be convinced with one skimmed over ao3 tag and then some. regardless, i don’t have any hard no’s that aren’t the incredibly obvious, and i think rp is a great way to develop and analyze your likes and dislikes in a safe environment. it’s okay to be into something in one thread and then change your mind later, that’s something i had to learn the long way but i'm better off for it!
is there anything you really enjoy writing? i really love angst. not sure what happened developmentally to get here but we’re here. i think that shows a lot in my preferred range of media i write in (or just consume casually,) there’s just a certain…. je ne sai quoi 🤌 in writing your character going through the absolute extremes of the human experience. besides that, i really go crazy with character analysis/general meta. i love to deep dive into mundane (or otherwise) aspects of a character and build up traits to fully flesh out a muse.
do you write in silence or do you play music? i need complete silence or i will literally never finish a sentence. i am way too scatterbrained to focus on two things at once and need to lock the fuck in when i’m writing a reply.
do you plan your replies or wing them? who do i look like shakespeare. i’ve never planned out a thing in my life im consistently operating strictly off vibes.
do you enjoy shipping? im a dirty little shipping whore. shipping is god's gift to the planet what else would i do if not daydream about my two little guys passionately kissing in a field of wheat.
what’s your alias/name? val :3 my psn tag is a variant of valkyrie, and after i was tired of my old alias i looked there for inspiration. say thank you god of war (2018) for shooting me into another norse mythology frenzy, feels just like middle school.
age & birthday? my golden birthday is this july (25th)!!! ((mild existential dread))
favorite color? green, brown, black and purple❗️
favorite song? recently rediscovered since u been gone by kelly clarkson. having daily religious experiences for it.
last movie you watched? lord i have no idea. i don’t watch too many movies and the last one i can place is catching the second half of 47 meters down when i was having dinner with my dad a few weeks ago. yay sharks. and mandy moore!!!!
last show you watched? i love a good netflix documentary and i just finished one called the program: cons, cults and kidnapping, which was about exposing the troubled teen industry. it’s a super interesting watch but deals with quite a few heavy topics so if you’re interested please heed caution! i also just started american nightmare, but im only about 30-ish minutes into the first episode…. gotta lock in.
last song you listened to? according to spotify it was safari song by greta van fleet but according to the fortnite festival session i just had it was carry on my wayward son by kansas. literal war flashbacks.
favourite food? dude there’s this fucking sandwich place by my house and they literally make the best chicken sandwich i’ve ever had. imagine grilled chicken on a brioche bun w cheddar, bacon, a corn salsa and slathered in chili aioli. walk with me. it sounds wack but it’s SO GOOD. i dream about her…
favorite season? i love winter i love being cold and tucked into my electric blanket listening to the rain outside. all of you summertime elitists need to get off my lawn.
do you have a tumblr best friend? i have my gaggle of tumblr friends turned irl friends in my pockets at all time and i wouldn’t trade any of them for the world. i met one of my oldest friends in ye olde supernatural rp back in 2013? and over ten years later WE’RE STILL FUCKING HERE. so many of the most important people in my life i’ve met through tumblr and the amount of shit we've seen through the rpc's we've been in has bonded us all for eternity lmfao.
tagged by: @13nth thank u tea my love :*
tagging: my homies @sherez @tactition @liegacy + anyone who's interested :3

ok idk whether or not you've decided on a classpect for noctis yet, but i HAVE to ask. What do you think about Page of Doom for Noctis?
tbh at first I auto assigned him Heir of Space just cause that's my classpect and I relate to noctis a lot, but then as I learned more about classpects I realized that Page of Doom fits him way better. At least, that's what I think. (actually I'm still using heir of space as his classpect for like a signifier for a doomed timeline in my ffxv/sburb au)
Ah yes sorry about that, I’ve been meaning to get to Noctis but this Tumblr used to be run by two people. I did the analysis and the other person did the fan art. This is now a one person blog so unfortunately there won’t be any fan art of Noctis and his classpect.
I will still do his classpect analysis though in the future. Regarding typing and analyzing a character’s classpect, I try to think of how the inverted classpect fits into their arc as well, and if it doesn’t make sense regarding the character’s arc within the story, I analyze more till the classpect and inverted classpect best represent that arc as a whole. It’s easy to think about the Classpect that shows the external version of the character, but I think it helps to think about the inverted Classpect since it reinforces and shows more evidence towards the “Outer” Classpect ( we’ll call it that for now). For example, consider the Prompto Classpect analysis I did: he’s a Knight of Light, meaning the inverted Classpect of that is the Rogue of Void. When first analyzing him, I was between choosing the Light aspect and the Void aspect as well as the Knight and Rogue classes, I realized then that choosing to consider the inversion of classes and aspects, helps shows the characters strengths, their insecurities, and their transformation over the course of the story. Prompto’s insecurities stemmed from not feeling like he was enough and was completely concerned about his own value to others (Void) but his strengths lie in how he’s able to see the value in others and their roles within the big picture (Light) he just needed to be able to find the value within himself. You have to think about how both opposite aspects relate to the character’s story, where their ultimate priorities lay, what they give up, and how they go about interacting with the world . I’ve decided in the end that Noctis is a Heir of Space since it fits with his story and arc throughout the game, I’ll go into more detail with the analysis but this is ultimately what I’ve decided his classpect to be in the end. Strange enough that you ended up guessing one of the two classpects I considered for him.
Regarding the Page of Doom classpect, to be completely honest, I don’t agree with him being one because I (personally at least) don’t see how the Page’s arc and the Doom aspect describe his role perfectly or well enough in Final Fantasy XV. Along with the fact that the inverted classpect of the Page of Doom is the Thief of Life, he in no way shows shades of the Thief Classpect throughout the game (in my opinion at least but I’m open to understanding the reasoning from others). When assigning a classpect to a character I try to keep in mind the powers they possess, since powers are often used in stories as symbols to a characters personality and role in a story. In Noctis’ case, Space seemed the better option since his powers deal with teleporting, using space around him in any way he can, and the ability to manifest his weapons with the magic. He has to become one with this magic at some point in his life but it’s only through death and sacrifice on his part, which is where the Time Aspect comes in to represent what he’s scared of physically and symbolically.
I hope this provides some understanding in how I decide on classpects for characters, and I’m always happy to answer more questions regarding the processes I go through when thinking about all this. Thank you for showing interest in this Tumblr!

a scattered meta analysis with this meme remade for a single purpose, because this is the energy of the pepe silva meme in verbal form
ok so this came to me not even in a dream although i could say it came to me in a dream, but it's just my constant galaxy brain activating and making things make sense in my lore, i'm doing the lords work when miyazaki started and didnt finish.
per my Fun Laputian Facts: the purebloods are made of the earth. they can mimic humans in shape but they're nothing like humans on the inside, they are an entirely different species. they were made by greater gods from the heart of the planet and saw themselves as the guardians of the planet and thus believed they had the authority to just deliver divine punishment upon things. they turn back into mud when they die. they have almost no weaknesses except for the thing that bassboosts their power, and the condition of the planet as a whole. they have a weird hivemind while also maintaining individuality. they can fly by weird magic. they put their souls in crystals outside their bodies. they can cast super megadeath magic ray. muska may or may not have built most of the robots, some for gardening and some for firing super megadeath magic ray. the robots have an organic nervous system (thats canon like my god its sorta fridge horror when they die and fall apart)
facts about the god warriors that are literally canon in the nausicaa manga: they are also bipedal and sorta human in shape but also definitely not and are an entirely different species. they were made by other beings as gods and saw themselves as arbitrators and judges of the earth. they turn into mud when they die. they have like no weaknesses except their own power which rots their bodies. they have a weird hivemind but also maintain the ability to manifest individual personalities. they can fly by weird magic (warping reality). there's a control stone involved. they can cast super megadeath magic ray. it's super fridge horror when they die and fall apart
now, 99% of those things are just common things shared between the two species. the problem then is "but knight the laputian purebloods except muska died out 700 years ago when the world got fucked by being ravaged by constant wars bc the crusades sucked ass" yes that is very true, but also the laputians put their souls in magic rocks and their physical bodies returned to the earth.
looping back to "laputians are gods made by other beings (other gods)" the same principle applies to the god warriors, except i guess they were made by humans to be gods, but clearly thats super fucked up and they turned out really wrong. so consider,
humans can't properly use aetherium, that's made clear in the dialogue in castle in the sky, where only the laputians had been able to fully harness the power of aetherium. so here come some humans who decide lmao gotta yeet all things and say they are able to find "control stones" (read: dormant aetherium crystals with laputian souls) and they decide to make some gods with that.
if muska, a laputian, can't revive the laputians, what makes humans think they can do it right? clearly, they ... they didn't. it's super wrong, because what they got was giant ass bioweapons that decided to cast turbodeath upon everything for 7 days straight nonstop, before they died because the godlike power rotted their bodies.
and speaking of godlike power that corrodes the body, muska wasn't born blind! he went blind because his godlike power destroyed his physical health, even tho he could fight 50 grown men and win, he's far from peak health by his species standards. he's suffered "stunted physical growth" man's 6'4 what was this species even. muska didn't die of his power because he's linked to the main crystal core as all the rulers of laputa have been (i can have a little ffxv as a treat! "king of the stone/king of kings")
now, what's even MORE fucked up and will get its own post is how the heedra could also be attempts at fucked up laputians because they also have control stones and are immortal unless you destroy their cores and their bodies also fall apart and turn into mud if you kill them hM!!!!

I LIKE YUSUKE hes a very solid character but hes not really MY TYPE of character yknow? i actually found his section of the game very difficult to get through just because it reminded me of some personal stuff i dont like thinking about. no matter what my oppinions of him are i hate how the fandom treats him because hes very clearly gay, probably autistic, and atlus makes sure to write him as a joke because of it but that doesnt mean the fanbase has to carry it on :')
akira is.....difficult for me. for reference i only played the games, i know the manga and anime give him like solid characterisation but the nature of akira being a player controlled protagonist makes it difficult for me to talk about him? so i dont exactly go wild over them but some of their dialouge choices...holy shit the potential. basically what im saying is you could take and add a lot of hearts onto this chart depending on how he's played, BUT I WILL SAY: my favourite akira moments are in the bad endings if that tells u anything about my brain and its thought process
AND NOW THJE MEAT AND POTATOES
HOLY SHIT I COULD TAKE ABOUT GLADIO FOR HOURS. I DONT THINK YOU FOLLOWED ME WHEN I WAS REALLY INTO FFXV BECAUSE FUCK THE ESSAYS I WROTE ABOUT THIS MAN COULD RIVAL SCRIPTURE I WAS SO ANGRY ABOUT HOW DIRTY THIS GAME DID HIM AND IF ANYTHING WITH AGE IVE GOTTEN ANGRIER AND NOW THE FANDOM IS ALSO NOT FREE FROM MY WRATH. gladio is an incredible character with i think MOSTLY decent writing but unfortnately most ffxv players are literally unable to read ANYTHING with nuance and whilst i do largely blame the english dub i think every player who wants to talk about the train scene specifically when it comes to gladio needs to take a media analysis test to see if theyre allowed to open their mouths. i know this is mean but like <3 idc if i gladio amicitia has one fan i AM that one fan ect ect
I HAVE CONFLICTED FEELINGS ABOUT ARDYN I THINK HES A BRILLIANT VILLIAN, I HATE HIM AND I LOVE HIM, EPISODE ARDYN KNOCKED ME FOR A LOOP SO HARD I DID A FULL 180 AND WENT MAD WITH LUST FOR HIM. WILL NOT ELABORATE. he's such a tragic character and his backstory makes me soooo upset. it was so interesting how well it recontextualized everything we'd seen of him so far and actually managed to make him symmpathetic. i ALSO think lovingly about that anon i got like 3 years ago who exclusively referred to him as uncle piss

Man i need an excuse to write an essay about the religious, specifically Christian, allusions and metaphors in Final Fantasy XV. Like i could talk your ear off about that.
Like:
-Noctis is referred to as “King of Kings” by Gilgamesh. The phrase “King of Kings” has a lot of historical background to it but what’s important here is this title is used twice in the Book of Revelation as a title for Jesus.
-I can make arguments for both Noctis and Ardyn being Jesus figures.
-Noctis has to sacrifice himself to save humanity
-He’s gruesomely killed. like it isn’t a quick death it’s slow and painful.
-Tells his “followers” (the bros) he’s gonna die before he does
-Accepts his death, BUT the final campfire scene=Garden of Gethsemane
-Every past king of Lucis were tasked with making sure that when the King of Kings did come that the Ring and Crystal were safe and ready for him, and I see this as a parallel to the Prophets and John the Baptist
-Multiple moments in the game I can argue are metaphorical Second Comings
-In the game, a father sacrifices his son. yeah.
-Talk of blood sacrifices
-probably more that i’m forgetting
Characters sacrificing themselves and being metaphors for Jesus is nothing new, but i did not expect for this game to do it when i bought it ha. Not sure what to argue this does for the narrative other than it makes the ending all the more obvious.

Okokokokok, I think I've waited long enough to talk about it, but here I am, talking about Ravus and Noctis. Yep, here I go. Despite the game portraying as adversaries, which they are, in all honesty, there are actually a lot of hints to them being possibly close when they were young.
Sorry, I just wanna yell about my brotp and point out some of the interesting things they did which kind of made me think, ‘maybe they weren’t just childhood acquaintances.’
First Name Basis:
During Episode Ignis, and I've made a joke about this before, all Ravus calls Ignis is ‘boy.’ and actually never says his name. With Gladio, it’s much the same, as he only sneers his title before launching him into a car. But with Noctis, we have them both saying the others name, even with Ravus remarking that it’s been a long while. Something that I think is an interesting thing to note, as it seems to imply that they’ve interacted more than a brief meeting. Noctis’ response of Ravus is just as interesting to me, it’s kind of wary and unsure, it’s likely Luna’s told him of her brother’s downward spiral and while he is aware of that, he also sounds like he’s wondering if this won’t end in conflict. Especially with the facial expressions...but that’s up next!
Another thing, also coming from Episode Ignis, is that end scene where Ravus begrudgingly replies, “And you as well...Noctis.” there's respect in his tone now, yes. But it also sounds a bit like one of those begrudging make-up’s that siblings do. Also, since there isn’t too much to cover here, it’s interesting to note that when talking about his calling, he smiles up at the sky, before looking at Noctis, smilie seemingly still in place.
Yee, here it is, Facial Expressions:
Like I mentioned before, Noctis’ facial expressions when Ravus walks in are actually pretty interesting, as they look more confused than not:
And even kinda melancholic at one part.
Bonus:
Now, if I cluttered this thing with pics, it’s mostly likely to not be very coherent, but during Zegnatus when you stumble across Ravus’ body,
Noctis looks as if he’s trying not to cry. And I severely doubt he’d do it for any person, especially not his enemy. With Jared, he got a little depressed, and that was an old family friend. But with Ravus, we have this attempt to hold back tears, or so it seems. I’ll get into this scene more with the body language section!
Which will be riiiiiiiight below!
Body Language:
Notice how most of these are about Noct? Well, aside from being ‘Main Character-sama’ he also is the most expressive of the two. Not to say that Ravus isn’t expressive. But Noctis is clearly the one who holds less feelings of animosity in this relationship, and if anything he still remembers the times they spent together without a bitter light.
MOVING ON FROM THAT.
As for Noctis, in the scene I spoke of above, it actually takes him a long while for him to turn away from Ravus, it’s like he’s frozen to the spot and is just staring down at him. At a few points, he looks away before looking back again. And the pause that holds after you receive the Sword Of The Father, he’s clearly shaken/torn up about this death.
A little-r thing, is during the first encounter, when Ravus and Ardyn leave, Noctis let’s Iggy do the talking, but he gives this small little nod, keeping his eyes down and actually looking a bit sad? Is this because of the way Ravus treated him? Or was it because he felt like Ravus was disregarding Luna/being a dick to his friends? Something else to comment is that Noctis immediately gets defensive when his friends start making jibes and talking about Ravus, and basically refuses to comment.
Indirect Interactions:
HERE’S WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING FAM. IT’S RAVUS TIME.
At the end of Episode Ignis, like I pointed out before, was the fact that Ravus begrudgingly but willingly forgave Noctis. Not only that, in the Alternate Verse, he gets them to Niflheim right away, without hesitation, without hostility. Which might be because time is of the essence, WHICH BY THE WAY HOW DID HE KNOW WHERE ARDYN TOOK IGNIS?? MysillyOraclepowers/Versustheorybangsbackintoexistence
But probably more telling, is the way Ravus spoke of Noctis to Iedolas, deferring to him as the true king and being sound and assured that Noctis would bring the Light.
But then, the Ardyn!Noct scene plays, where Ravus speaks to Noctis with a strange familiarity, showing relief he has come and admitting he was wrong in some sort of indirect way, even showing loyalty by calling him ‘His King’
Conclusion thing? As well as some headcannons?
I think it’s quite possible that Ravus and Noctis were close as children, being likely that Ravus would try and show Noctis some sword tricks, and perhaps even teach him how to fish! After all, it’s never outright stated, although I could be wrong. And if Noctis spent those days in Tenebrae fishing with Ravus and Luna, of course he would want to keep doing it in order to keep the memory. And perhaps even aim to out fish Ravus one day.
One thing that needs to be remembered is that Ravus was called a “Kind and welcoming” child, so of course when there’s a younger prince, he’s going to understand some of the frustrations and pressure, so he’s likely to be more involved than not with Noctis.
And when Tenebrae goes up in flames and that heart is twisted, his view of Noctis is going to be shadowed, but Noctis is going to continue to remember the kind natured boy who helped him during those weeks. Which quite possibly explains why Noctis appears so conflicted when Ravus is on screen.
I hope this somewhat makes sense??
