Hey Kids—Reading is Fun!

Dear Readers,

Your mods (@femme--de--lettres and @greyeyedmonster-18) are beside themselves with how many of you have participated in Cruel Summer Fic Fest: The Eras Tour this year.

From full novel-length fics to poetry, from microfics to multi-chaptered works and everything in between, we've been blown away—enchanted, even—by this year's submissions. This fest started as a labor of love for both of us as avid Swifties and HP fic authors and we couldn't have imagined in our wildest dreams the way you've embraced it with open arms.

With that said, we're pleased to offer the below list of this year's love stories. Due to tumblr restrictions on tagging, we weren't able to tag all of the individual author tumblr accounts (something something look what you made us do something something) so we've tried to link to ao3 as much as possible, but if you like a fic—check out that author's ao3! We've tried to connect you as directly to the mainstream of what each author writes in that respect, so if you happen to find a new fave, you can show them more love on the rest of their works!

To make a long story short, the majority of these works can be found in the Cruel Summer Fic Fest: The Eras Tour collection on ao3—with a catalogue of over 100 works, there's something for everybody, and we hope you'll take a peek at this year's truly incredible works.

Hello! Maybe this is a hard ask to answer, but could you guys rec dramione fics with the best villains/antagonists in your opinion.

These are fics that I found had unique mysteries and were very AU (in a good way):

Femme Fatale By: cleotheo - M, 26 chapters - Draco Malfoy’s new position as an Auror for the British Ministry throws him head first into a hunt for a serial killer. Working with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, he sets out to catch the killer as well as entering into a romantic relationship with their other colleague, Hermione Granger. Murder mystery with a side helping of Dramione romance.

The Assignment - Nightbloom7 - E, 17 chapters - Cursed objects are causing death and destruction. When the objects themselves are found to hold no trace of Dark Magic, the Department of Magical Artefacts is stumped. Draco Malfoy leant back in his chair and crossed his arms in bafflement. “And your professional assessment is that the best way of gathering evidence is sending Granger and I together to a sex club?” “Worried about your reputation, Malfoy?” Hermione asked flatly. He scoffed. “Hardly. If I were outed for going to an expensive parisian sex den it would be considered very much on brand.” "That’s why it’s so important we’re believable as a couple. Inheritance By: bifmonzo - M, 31 chapters, Words: 190,240 - Draco is an Auror. Hermione is just trying to do her job. Neither of them are prepared for what happens after she wakes up hungover in his bed. Sins of the Past By: cleotheo - M, 36 chapters, Words: 100,880 - When Scorpius Malfoy and his best friend, Alex Zabini, go travelling the last thing anyone expects is for the two boys to run into trouble in Wizarding Britain. But when Alex is found unconscious outside of a nightclub and Scorpius is on the missing list, the Malfoys past comes back to haunt them as it becomes clear that someone is after revenge.

Valentino's 'Le Salon' is a Lesson in Regressive Storytelling

I never know what to expect when it comes to Valentino and this past Haute Couture show titled ‘Le Salon’ proved why I am so critical towards the current state of fashion. The livestream premieres with flashing lights from Place Vendôme in Paris, France as notable guest like Florence Pugh, Kris and Kylie Jenner also featuring Kylie’s daughter Stormi and founding house father Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani decked in a burgundy velvet suit that gives off exactly what Nicki Minaj would say a lot of you people can’t spell. Couth.

But the second the circus was over and everyone had taken their seats the real show began. Burgundy seems to be a common color scattered throughout shows recently that I am slowly becoming rather fond of. The color reminding me of the Christmas sweater that Mrs. Weasley would make every year for her son Ron Weasley in the films. It is that kind of consistent love that I am beginning to associate with this color. I am sure that nearly every Harry Potter fan will understand what I am trying to describe. Continuing on an Italian aria echos as the models continue walking down the runway. Tombstone grays paired with egg yolk yellows or neon oranges is only something PierPaolo, the current creative director of Valentino, could envision being paired together. Does that mean that all the silhouettes are terrible? Absolutely not! A dress that was worn by Florence Pugh for her Australian Vogue November issue, and that I would have the fortune of featuring on my own tiktok page, would make an appearance; proving the point in my Dior Couture review that certain pieces would look better on a fuller-sized model and Pugh perfectly captures that look.

Yet as the show continued on there were only a few more pieces that would capture my eye. A turquoise evening gown brought a smile to my face as I watched a dark skinned model sporting a shaved head, a quicker-than-lightening attitude and a walk with so much elegance that you couldn’t help but give a small, “you better go girl,” under your breath. The gown only an added accessory to the model. This is the type of energy, I realize, is missing from the runway scene. A lack of personality. I guess we can blame Prada for that one, but that’s for another essay.

The show continued on in tulles, sequins and unique pairings that again, some may say is a work of genius, but I would have to disagree. Now, do not mistaken my disdain for Le Salon as disdain for the creative director. The L’Ecole show still holds a special place in my heart and is shelved right in my top two alongside the Pink PP collection. However, coming off the heels of an amazing show like L’Ecole I had high hopes to see what PierPaolo would showcase and was let down in a tremendous way. In terms of music and performance, I loved the traditional Italian Opera, but when you compare that to, what can only be described as a spiritual conversion to the world of FKA Twigs, I don’t think a younger demographic would care too much for this show once they hear the music. The clothes were, at best, in-cohesive; and at worst, a dumpster fire of the worst color combos you could put together. But just as I was about to write the rest of this show off, Black silhouettes made their appearance and I paused to watch. Each look channeling something that was made specifically for the femme fatale. The Black Swan of her family. I was hooked but by that point the show was over and I was left feeling…underwhelmed.

In terms of artistry and storytelling this was not it Valentino and PierPaolo. I know that I was a fan of the burgundy and the Blacks but the few good pieces that were in those colors were so far in between that it just wasn’t enough to save them this time around. The ten’s are replaced with the 6’s in my book for color crimes against humanity. But again, don’t crucify me, this is just my opinion. It’s not like I am Anna Wintour…yet.

Hermione Granger, meanwhile – described as "the femme fatale of the group" – is currently deputy head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and is "now tipped to go even higher within the Ministry", writes Skeeter. "He shows no obvious signs of mental illness from a distance, but the public is not allowed close enough to make a proper assessment. Ron Weasley is revealed to have worked for the Ministry of Magic along with Harry, only to have left after two years to "co-manage the highly successful wizarding joke emporium Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes". The friends – who called themselves "Dumbledore's Army" as they fought the forces of evil in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – are also joined by their former schoolmates Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom, and by their children. Ginny Potter, Ron's sister and now Harry's wife, also attends the match, as does Hermione, the straight-A student who was a key part of the battle against the evil Voldemort, and who is now Ron's wife. What do you think of MLM!Romione and WLW!Ronarry?

I like both concepts, as both are pairings I like.

I've actually written a fic about MLM!Romione in the past (which you can find on my AO3 and FFN accounts). As for WLW!Ronarry, while I haven't ever written a fic about it, I do enjoy the idea nonetheless.

I think both concepts bring up interesting situations and scenarios. How would it be if Ron and "Hermes" had to navigate their sexual orientations when they fell for each other? Would "Ronnie" and "Harriet" find it difficult to navigate whether their feelings are normal "female best friends" feelings or not, since women (in the 90s) had more leeway to be physically affectionate with their friends than men did at that time?

You couldn’t recall the moment in which Draco Lucius Malfoy merged into your life.

It seemed as if one moment he was a mere stranger. The next, the light of your life. The one person who could evoke acute giddiness that your childhood crushes would be jealous of. A feeling foreign to you, but welcomed nonetheless. It felt good. Loving him felt good.

You gently pushed past the crowd of warm bodies swaying to the music without constraint, longing for a few moments of stillness in midst of the chaos of another secret Slytherin common room party. A dark green light dimly illuminated the room. The ornate flooring vibrated beneath your feet to the bass. Fixing yourself a cup of whatever was on the makeshift bar, you absentmindedly sipped your beverage, leaning against the table and subtly bopping your head to the music. From your place, you shot Hermione Granger a reassuring smile as a tipsy Ron Weasley pulled her in for a dance. Theodore Nott had somehow made his way to a fellow Slytherin girl, an arm thrown across her shoulders as they both laughed at God knows what. Pansy was beyond wasted, dancing goofily alongside Blaise, Daphne, and Astoria. How the younger Greengrass managed to get into the party was beyond you, but she wasn’t your responsibility. Your friends were too far gone to realize you had done missing.

But not him.

“I can hear your thoughts from across the room.” A voice behind you rasped.

Approaching you, they followed your league, leaning against the table next to you.

Draco Malfoy.

Clad in black pants with an undoubtedly expensive crisp white button up, black leather boots, and a silver chain around his veined neck, he was the embodiment of a true Slytherin; effortlessly sensual and charismatic with a hint of wickedness. A sly grin stretched across his chiseled face. Secretly, he had always had an eye on you. But he would never admit it. Not even to himself. How you had managed to bewitch him despite having only exchanged a couple of words with each other was something the Slytherin prince would never understand. You made him lose control. And for that, he found himself unable to stay away from you. Your face, voice, hell — even your scent never strayed far from his mind.

“Isn’t this your own party, birthday girl?”

A quick laugh left your lips as they tugged back into a beaming smile.

“I’m pretty sure Blaise threw this party more for himself rather than me. Any reason to show off his playlist I guess.”

The fair haired man joined in you the harmonization of laughter.

“They’re all having fun, that’s all that matters.” You spoke fondly, the softness of your tone making Draco’s stomach stir.

“And how about you, birthday girl? Are you having fun?”

Twisting his body towards you, he extended a hand towards you.

“Come dance with me.”

Standing up straight, you gazed up at him through your lashes. A couple of beats passed before you placed your hand in his, loving how the coldness of his rings felt clasped against your palm.

“Just once dance, Malfoy.”

“One dance is all I need.”

He let you lead up towards the dance floor, his glacier eyes drinking up your form desperately. The silk body con dress wrapped around your body tantalizingly. Oh, how he wished he were that fucking dress. The oscillation of your hips as you walked made him dizzy. But it wasn’t just your physicality that drove Draco wild, it was just you. You and your stealthy femme fatale nature. You were dangerous, he knew it. But he was a Malfoy, and they have proved time and time again that danger never made them shrivel.

And so, he pulled your body closer and led you two through the dance of lust and desire. You relaxed back into him as if you had done this a thousand times. He did the same, placing his head in the crook of your neck and brushing his lips against your skin. You giggled airily, slowly allowing your hands to travel up his toned arms until one was cupping his face. The other tangled itself in his tousled locks. He chuckled in return, squeezing you before placing a chaste kiss on the side of your jaw. You were in a complete daze, high off of him. No drugs needed. The feeling was mutual for Draco as he watched you, felt you, undulate against him. The way you moved was enough to leave him breathless. He was convinced you were a goddess who had lost her from Olympus and decided to stay and graze the common folk with your presence. And for once, Draco didn’t mind being common folk. Not when you were the deity he could worship.

Draco pressed another kiss to your neck.

“Happy birthday, pretty girl.”

It wasn’t just one dance.

Whether the two of you would have liked to admit it or not, there was no denying that that fateful night had set things in motion. Quite frankly, Draco could not get you off of his mind for the life of him. It was a new feeling for him - thinking of someone else besides himself and his disdain for everyone else around him. But it was nice. Pleasant even. Thinking about you brought him less pain than his incessant thoughts regarding his father. You were his own personal Garden of Eden. His safe place, his comfort, his home. To stay away from you would mean giving all of that up.

So he stayed.

The first time Draco made contact with you after your birthday party surprised you. You expected a cocky smile on his face as he bodaciously gloated about having you dance up on him at a party. Instead, he shot you a crooked smile from across the courtyard. And you found yourself smiling back timidly before scurrying off to your next class. The quick exchange left you way too capricious for your liking. It didn’t stop you from savoring that feeling though. You sought it out with every paper crane sent your way in the middle of potion lectures, the simplest yet sweetest of messages transcribed on the inside.

7th floor, left corridor. Meet me there after the prefects do their rounds.

You turned your head slightly towards him, eyebrows furrowed with confusion. Why would he ask you to meet you out in the open past curfew? Surely his prefect privileges could only get him out of so much trouble, breaking curfew definitely not being an exception. He raised his eyebrows expectantly. After a few moments of thought, you agreed with a nod of your head.

Later that night, you found him exactly there; the seventh floor, left corridor, pacing back and forth in front of the famous tapestry. His wide eyes were narrowed into slits as his features molded into an expression of concentration. His head darted up towards you as you stepped out from around the corner. Draco felt the air grow thick as your form emerged from the shadows angelically.

“Why are we in the middle of a hallway?” You whispered.

He said nothing, approaching you and taking your hand in his before pulling you to his original spot.

“Are you kidding me— Malfoy!”

Your scolding was cut short he turned your body. Gone was the once empty wall adjacent to the tapestry. In its place was a deep brown wooden door.

“You really think I’d have you sneak out to meet me in some bloody hallway?” Draco scoffed.

Stepping in front of you, Draco pushed the doors open. The realization dawned upon you immediately upon entering the threshold. The Room of Requirement.

“Only appears when someone is in great need of it,” You recalled quietly to yourself, remembering Hermione’s exact words as the heavy door shut behind you both.

“I guess I just needed to see you again.” He confessed nonchalantly, his tone pointed with barely detectable levels of affection.

You bit back a smile, peering at him over your shoulder before surveying the room. While the Room of Requirement made itself visible to those in great need of it, it also came equipped for whatever purpose its seeker may need it for. Draco’s intentions were clear, the glint of the golden gramophone driving them further. Not knowing the workings of the ancient machine, you fumbled with the many buttons and doodads until music streamed from out of the speaker. Jumping slightly with surprise, you were steadied by two hands placing themselves around your arms and a chortle. Turning around, you were met with a strong wave of deja vu at the sight of the Slytherin prince holding out an outstretched palm towards you.

Smiling at him teasingly, you placed your hand in his.

“I thought we agreed on one dance and only one dance, Malfoy.”

He huffed, placing his available hand on your waist and pulling your body close. Your hand that wasn’t clasped in his was delicately placed on his chest.

“I think we both knew that was a lie.” He spoke, his tone the calmest you had ever heard from the infamous bully. “After all, you did meet me.”

He craned his neck, placing his smooth cheek against yours. His lips brushed against your ear as he whispered into it. Your chest tightened as your breath got caught in your throat. Subconsciously, you squeezed his hand in yours. He returned the sentiment, swaying the both of you to the music without faltering once.

“So what’s it going to be, hmm?” Draco hummed lowly.

With all the courage you could muster up, you turned your head and faced him directly. Your nose grazed against his and after what felt like an eternity and a half, he pressed his lips against yours. Your hand trailed from his hard chest to the side of his neck as your mouth moved in tandem against his. The tip of his tongue swiped the underside of your bottom lip before you allowed the warm muscle to tangle with yours. Once the two of you pulled away, he pressed his forehead against yours. His small puffs of warm breath calmed you down as you did your best to catch your breath.

“I’m not good at...this.” Draco sheepishly admitted, an icy locket of hair falling into his eyes boyishly as he hung his head low in shame.

He was being vulnerable with you. An extremely difficult feat for a Malfoy.

“It’s okay.” You assured. “We’ll learn.”

Draco’s heart leaped out of his chest. We. The gentleness — the patience and willingness — that oozed from your words resonated with him more deeply than any of his father’s harsh scoldings and scalding lectures of blood purity. He wasn’t alone anymore.

He pressed his lips against yours once more, softly this time — the only way he knew how to thank you.

Draco did it.

He gave in and purchased the most population device amongst all muggles; he bought a phone.

He couldn’t help it really. Since the start of your relationship, he had longed for moments with you at all times of the day. The stone cole blond sneered at you and scoffed every time you called him clingy. Though deep down, he knew it was true. When summer came and the two of you had left Hogwarts to your respective homes, Draco felt like the sun had left. Malfoy Manor despite all its luxury felt like a prison to him. You both wrote to each other very frequently, but Draco missed you in your entirety. Your face, your voice, the way your bare skin felt pressed against his. Hell, he even missed quickies in the prefects’ bathroom with you. Your words written down on a piece of parchment could only do so much.

He had to give it to the muggles, his phone came in handy. Now, he could hear your voice and see your face on a daily basis. He could also keep up with Blaise, Pansy, and Theo on their social media platforms. But let’s be real, the only reason he purchased the stupid thing (and made an Instagram account per his friends’ requests) was for you.

You had easily become the apple of his eye. And he, yours.

What the two of you had was sacred. Draco’s destiny had been planned out for him since the day Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy found out that they were expecting a son. His values were not his own, but the beliefs of his ancestors. On top of that, his own life was hardly his own either, but an extension of his father’s. With his father being one of the top ranking death eaters, Draco had a reputation to uphold. He had to be the best of the best. Not because he wanted to, but because his father would make him suffer if he came up short.

But now, he had you.

And you were his. All his. No conditions, no expectations. Being with you was as natural as breathing. To just simply exist with you had brought Draco more peace than anything else. That being said, he kept you close and away from the prying eyes of nosy Hogwarts students. Away from the scrutiny, you were bound to face.

His relationship with you was the first thing that was truly his. And Merlin was he going to protect you with ferocity.

You and Draco had finally got around to reuniting with each other in person.

Ever the romantic, he only requested that you dressed nicely for a candlelit dinner and packed an overnight bag for a stay at the Ritz Carlton in muggle London. You nearly fought him for the amount of money he had spent on one date, but he assured you that he didn’t mind. And he didn’t. While he was still learning how to be more verbal and open when it came to his emotions, physical affection and gifts were nothing new to him. He took you to a quint yet posh little restaurant that was known for its desserts with your sweet tooth in mind. If he had it his way, he would have ordered every dessert on the menu, but you managed to convince him to share a creamy and rich creme brulee with you. The two of you giggled as his attempts at being cute and spoon feeding you failed.

“Eat on your own then, you ingrate.”

Your date concluded with a walk back to your hotel, taking in the sights around you and snapping pictures of the view and each other.

That was the last moment of peace the two of you had.

You and Draco were woken up to the incessant chiming of both of your phones. Tightening his arms around you, he pulled your naked back against his chest.

“Turn it off, for fucks sake.” He groaned into the nape of your neck.

“Yours is going off too, you git.” You retorted, reaching for your device to silence it.

If you had it your way, you would have gone right back to sleep in your lover’s arms. But alas, the universe had different plans for you. Your phone screen was filled with notifications from Instagram and text messages ranging from your friends and users you did not recognize. In midst of the sea of messages, one stood out to you that made your stomach drop.

“You and Draco Malfoy are together?!?!? Since WHEN?”

Furrowing your brows, you unlocked your phone and launched the Instagram application. You had an influx of likes and followers as well as more comments asking about you and Draco’s relationship status. Deciding to investigate further, you went to the man in question’s page. The sunset mirage-like ring around his icon piqued your interest. You were with him the whole night, surely you would have posted if he posted something to his story right? Tapping on it, your suspicions were confirmed. A blurry video of your interlinked hands and shoe clad feet as you entered the hotel lobby played. In the background, you could be heard giggling. A playful “shush, Y/N” from your boyfriend is what gave your cover away. The video ended right there. With that, you shook the sleeping blond next to you awakes aggressively.

“What, woman?!”

“You’re an absolute fucking idiot.” You sighed, no malice in your tone. “How are you going to buy a phone and not know how to work it?”

Confused, Draco sat up and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.

“What on earth are you going on about?”

You laughed nervously. “Should we order some coffee from room service first? Because you’re going to need it.”

Draco surprisingly reacted calmly to the news. While the two of you weren’t deliberately hiding your relationship, you valued your privacy highly. When you had passed him your phone so that he could assess the damage, he chuckled at a comment Blaise had left.

“Okay but what were you 2 doing at a hotel in the first place”

“Should I tell everyone that too?” Draco teased, an obvious smirk on his handsome face.

“Do it and I’ll avada kedavra you.”

“Don’t threaten me with a good time, dear.”

Aside from him threatening to crucio every single person who had harassed you for answers, he remained level headed and navigated the situation effortlessly. “Is this character growth I’m seeing?” You coo, smooching his pale cheek loudly.

He chuckled wrapping his arms around you.

“I’m just—” He sighed, seemingly at a loss for words. “Really really happy with you. And us. And I guess I’m ready to show everyone how happy you make me.”

Later that night, the wizarding gossip was confirmed by the Malfoy heir himself with a single photo of you from your date last night sitting pretty as a picture with a halo of light highlighting your features.

This was as much of his little slice of heaven everyone was going to see, for you were his. And him, yours.
