the level at which people are misusing the term "Never Again" in the far left absolutely infuriates me.

"Never Again" doesn't refer to the idea of no more genocides -- unfortunately people are evil and corrupt and seek scapegoats and destruction, there were genocides in the years following the Holocaust, there were genocides 10 years ago, there are multiple genocides going on as we speak

"Never Again" means we as Jews will pay attention to the warning signs, will not mindlessly allow antisemitism to fester and take over our communities, we will fight back. it means we will be proud. it means we will not let you hate us without a word of refusal.

"Never Again" is a warning for us, it is a reminder that what happened then can happen now -- is happening now. The Far Left doesn't get to use it against us. You don't get to turn our tragedies into hate-speech and antisemitic rhetoric.

reading up on autism to figure out what the fuck is going on with me and making a list of personal pros and cons to figure out whether i should feel good or bad about it. as one does

pros: hyperlexia, deeply compassionate, talent for mathematics and the sciences/can do calculations of reasonable complexity in my head, visual hypersensitivity/decent artistic ability when replicating from still life/good at distinguishing subtle colors, acute hearing/good at identifying distinct sounds and sonic textures/deeply moved by music, can rotate some shapes in my head really fast i guess

cons: people can tell something is "off" about me in a fraction of a second and will be anywhere from begrudgingly polite to overtly hostile about it, terminal "not like other girls" disease/feeling of disconnect with existing in a feminine body, can pace for hours on end until my legs hurt, frequent crying & shutdowns, talk about myself and my interests extensively and can't seem to find a way to stop or better relate to others outside of mirroring them, productive work that actually *utilizes* my talents seems to only happen in increasingly infrequent bursts of hyperfocus, recurring identity issues stemming from a fundamental feeling of being born wrong and belonging nowhere, visceral hypersensitivity means i'm in pain from the normal functioning of my own organs for most of the day, people have compared me to sheldon cooper and elon musk, i am constantly begging for the sweet release of death,

Is Star Trek as optimistic as they say?

I’ve been thinking about the common argument that new trek isn’t optimistic enough to be true trek, and while I can’t make any statements on whether the newer shows are “real trek” or not (whatever that means), this does make me wonder... is Star Trek actually that optimistic?

I think others have made some pretty good criticisms of the supposedly utopian society and such so I won’t get into that - even if there is plenty still wrong with the world, Star Trek does present a future where humanity is much better equipped to strive to do better. It’s a hopeful view of humanity’s future, but what of our future, i.e. the people who have watched the show in the 20th/21st century?

Because even the original show is not optimistic about these centuries at all.

Instead, it predicts conflict on a huge scale happening a mere three decades after TOS aired, with later shows changing the timeline but still detailing a post-apocalyptic wasteland with almost all major cities destroyed. A lot of people set Star Trek apart as being against modern dystopian depictions of the future, but that is only because we see the events of a different, more distant time period. In the Star Trek universe, our distant descendants will live in a more prosperous and hopeful world yes, but we ourselves are headed towards total devastation.

Sure there’s only a few lines in TOS mentioning the Eugenics Wars/ WW3 so putting these events so soon was probably due to lack of thought, but I still think it says a lot about society at the time that the only way the writers thought we would learn our lesson is after we almost destroy ourselves. Bear in mind that TOS was made during the Cold War with nuclear annihilation being a very real concern, and even the newer shows have never retconned WW3 to be too far in the future - right now it is predicted to be very much in my lifetime.

I’m not sure exactly where I was going with this, this wasn’t meant to be a gotcha post saying everyone’s perception of Star Trek is wrong, it’s just an interesting observation for me. I don’t know whether it’s despairing that the franchise known for its optimism still envisions a future of death and destruction, or whether to feel hope that even if the unthinkable happens, humans can still rise from the ashes and build a more prosperous future.

I uploaded a piece yesterday, and I uploaded a 4.6k chapter last week. I'm so sorry that isn't good enough for you and that I have my own needs and life that my writing needs to work around.

do you think kanthony fandom is dying ?

I feel like this is hard for me to answer just because I'd say I'm more on the edge of the fandom rather than really in it (by nature of being much more involved in a different fandom lol), but I'd say no. Personally I haven't noticed a decrease in activity from my own blog and I still have new people following me every once in a while. And outside of my blog, there are so many people still creating content for them. New people are making gifs (which I am so grateful for!!), and people are writing fanfiction and making fanart (I wish more fanartists were on tumblr though!). I don't think the kathony fandom is going anywhere anytime soon, and with season 3 coming up I'm sure we'll see a bit of a burst in interest/creativity/engagement. I know I'm not the only one who's excited to see more of them!!

I wish that whenever someone blocked you, tumblr would give them this pop-up asking for a reason like when you try to delete your account. Not because I want to get better at appealing to people in any way, but because every time I find out someone I have been casually following and interacting with for a while (sometimes even have been followed by too) decided to block me I get SO CURIOUS. Like... which one of my silly little posts was the straw that broke the camel's back? I NEED to know, please!!
