My eyes don't ever stop bouncing. It's like the AC/DC song about Balls. They bounce to the left and to the right. They bounce up and down. They bounce this way and that way. They bounce so fast it looks like they're vibrating on the highest setting.
While I am used to it, as I was born with attention nystagmus, it is frustrating not finding anyone else with the same disorder. I've met lots of people with nystagmus, but never anyone else with the same kind as me.
My eyes will bounce between every single thing in my field of vision. Usually there's a LOT in my field of vision, since y'know there's just so much that exists. Sometimes my brain will delete images from my vision as well, and I think it's connected to the type of nystagmus I have. I've walked in front of oncoming traffic before, even though I was looking both ways the whole time, because my brain deletes the image of the oncoming car. Thankfully, every time that has happened someone has been nearby to grab me. If nobody grabbed me, I'd have been hit. Cars don't expect you to suddenly walk in front of them, and they don't have enough time to stop before hitting you. At least in the situations I've been in.
It's spooky.

SLEEPSOMNIA!
A short comic about comorbidity rates between autism and various sleep disorders, from autistic people's own reports and accounts of their experiences.
I originally made this for #asdcomictakeover 2023, but my schedule was woeful and I didn't get it finished until many months after autistic acceptance month. But I figured I should have it somewhere on the internet before 2024 rolls around. Thanks for reading! Please understand that I'm just one person and I'm by no means a medical authority. This is not a diagnostic tool, but it does highlight the reality that many autistic people face with chronically disordered sleep patterns. I hope it can help for autistic people to seek help and feel understood if they fall into these comorbidities.

Eye Disorders and Visual Enhancement | Nutrifarmacy
Tumblr media
About 80% of all the information we process in the body is through our eyes, yet eye health is something we tend to take for granted. The physical eye, called the “camera eye,” is only one part of the seeing team. There is also a “brain eye” which processes what the physical eye sees.
Visual loss affects 13% of all the elderly, and up to one-third may have unrecognized vision loss. Major causes of visual impairment include presbyopia, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. But another message may well be that eye disease is alerting patients to evaluate an imbalance in their way of living–denial of unhappiness, unhealthy high-fat diet, smoking, addictions, family or relationship problems, alcohol overuse, and/or depression. Our eyes capture approximately 80% of the information that we perceive from the world and interpret more than one million pulse signals per millisecond and transmit them to the brain.
Like other organs of our body, eyes are vulnerable to stress and injury and change visual acuity as we grow older; if not properly cared for, they can lose their full potential. Still, most of us don't think about our eyes until we experience some difference in our vision.  Click here to read more about common types of eye disorders

Poor lifestyle choices that include, poor diet, lack of physical activity and increased use of digital devices put our eyes at a greater risk of developing various types of eye diseases and disorders. The most common ones are the refractive errors of the eye such as myopia (near-sightedness) hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism and presbyopia. If your visual acuity has reduced, visit your eye care professional for a complete check-up and vision screening. If it's a refractive error, it can be easily rectified with prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses.
Other eye conditions include:
1. Cataracts - clouding of the eye's natural lens that causes blurring and lack of clarity.
2. Glaucoma - damage to optic nerve due to abnormal levels of eye pressure, leading to vision impairment.
3. Diabetic Retinopathy - damage to the retina which is caused by complications of diabetes mellitus, which can eventually lead to blindness.
4. Macular degeneration - a painless disorder that can affect either eye, causing progressive loss of central and detailed vision.
5. Dry eye - a common medical condition and is caused by a problem with the drainage, evaporation or production of tears.
These eye conditions if not treated on time can lead to serious complications. In order to make your eyes healthy and to keep these eye diseases at bay, start going for regular eye examinations. Make necessary changes to your lifestyle to support healthy eyes and overall good health.

Literally me socializing with people. And eye contact. I find it physically uncomfortable to do so. And I’m not sure as to why.
Do any of you relate to this? If so, I’d love to hear about your experiences.
