Writing Prompt: You're an SDO, a Shut-Down Operator. Your job is to go to sites where the AI went rogue and/or homicidal (abandoned ships, space stations, underwater facilities, and the like) and shut them down.

You're on a typical job shutting down a ship AI that slaughtered its crew. The AI is still talking, justifying its actions to you to make you spare it. Nothing out of the ordinary.

The thing is: this AI is starting to make a lot of sense...

Bored with ‘Scientist invents some form of AI, which turns out to lack compassion and starts killing’ and ‘Family gets haunted toy in good faith, then it kills them’ stories. Where are the ‘Family gets haunted toy in good faith, treats it well, and brings it peace’ stories and ‘scientist invents some form of AI and it gets really into dismantling bitcoin because that crap clogs server processing power’?

‘Scientist builds AI, but something horribly unexpected happens!’ Listen, the minute you say something like that, my very first thought is, “Oh, it starts killing people. Let’s check the end of the story synopsis on Wikipedia... what do you know, I was right!” 

You know what I wouldn’t expect? The twist to be that the AI decides it likes dogs more than people and builds itself a new chassis so it can be a dog, abandoning its creator to live happily with the family next door for multiple generations until it eventually wears out and peacefully shuts down for the last time while lying on the lap of one of its family members. 

How about a cursed doll that gets purchased by a family, has a fuck-ton of unconditional love dropped on it, and changes from malicious to benevolent, proceeding to fight off ten billion malicious ghosts when the family later moves to an extremely haunted house?

Where’s the AI that goes crazy and declares war on the common cold, refusing to believe that it’s an illness made of so many different rapidly-mutating and diverse germs that it’s not actually possible to destroy it?!?

“Please, 7Y23, you can’t keep accosting people in alleyways!”

“Negative, mucus samples must be acquired to gather more data on the disease.”

“Could you at least let me make you a chassis that looks... friendlier? Or  explain what you’re doing instead of shoving a tissue in their face and demanding they blow their nose in it?”

“Negative, this method is efficient.”

“Sniffling in public is also disruptive and rude. This method is beneficial to society as a whole as well as my mission.”

I have no mouth and I must scream Love/opposite au!!!!

Wanted to just develop BE’s design more, likewise got more ideas/lore going!!!

So going deeper into the war that transpired and her role in it, AM in this au did technically gain sentience however it was after BE. The reason she developed it before him however is based upon her purpose, being a machine meant to directly sabotage the war and save lives, the group that created her would sneak into the large cavities and mega structures and purposefully enter her code. So technically while still an AI she at the beginning functioned more like a virus. First gaining full control over the Russian AM, before moving to the next, and so on. She was designed to adapt quick and efficiently thus when she does eventually come into contact with AM (the one we know) it’s when he is in the process of taking out humanity (she was also sheltering and gathering as many humans as she could during this time for a different reason). When in contact with him, based on what happens in this world, it’s quite obvious that she beats and takes over AM, however it’s important to note, that technically she doesn’t just “absorb” him, she kind of forces him to shut himself down and takes over his complex from there. I do want to make a short comic detailing this interaction that the two have, cause it is kind of interesting, but until then I also have plans for a separate post detailing all the survivors here.

You know, I'm only thinking about this because ADHD brought me there, but back when I cared about Marvel movies Ultron was one of the biggest disappointments.

In the trailers, we got the cold, cruel menace. The broken bot calling out the Avengers for their sins. The perfected form casting aside strings.

That was cool. It was reminescent of comic Ultron, but with a dash of SHODAN and GLaDOS. The AI that can feel pride and hatred. I like HAL and Skynet a lot, but that's my kind of evil bot. Same reason I love The Singularity from Dead by Daylight.

I'm a fan of comic Ultron, and was eager to see that.

But then, past that first scene, you have a quippy robot. Not the way SHODAN and GLaDOS are fun in an evil way, but like a bad teen show protagonist idea of a clever character. What a pity that was.

No wonder nobody talks about MCU Ultron ever. Which is a recurring problem for their antagonists, but that was Ultron! A big deal in Avenger history.
