Consider this: A machine’s logicality and efficiency is usually through learning and pattern recognition and analysis. I’m imagining that makes machines easy to startle. If there’s no former warning to a jumpscare, their systems didn’t have any time to even consider the probability of it occurring and will temporarily mess up from the sudden irregularity in the pattern they were recognising and they’d have to reallocate themselves. Kinda like the flight or fight response where a sudden change in environment causes that evolutionary response.
