Rescuing Ross | Marvel Headcanon

This goes with my ‘Ross catching feeling’s for Tony’s sister’ headcanon—-link to my full Marvel Masterlist

Pairing: Everett Ross x Stark!reader (Tony’s sister)

Warning: contains major spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, do not continue if you have not seen it/ want to be spoiled.

Content warnings: profanity, angst, fluff at the end. Mentions of Tony & Nat’s death and the battles against Thanos.

Being Tony Stark’s sister (an avenger) who is engaged to Everett Ross & rescuing him from detainment would look like:

After meeting Ross in 2016 and becoming a couple following events of their visit Wakanda and the blip, you and Everett were coming up on your eight year anniversary with one year of being engaged. So much had happened that resulted in Everett delaying a proposal to you—most notably the death of your brother, Tony, and your good friend Natasha Romanoff—and felt that you two were at a good point in your relationship that there was no need for pressure on marriage. However, when Ev did propose you tackled him to the ground with a big ‘yes!’ & a kiss to the lips.

Everett had worries for his first marriage did not work out and therefore feared it would be the same for the two of you. But after years and sticking by one another during the hardships of half the population being gone for 5 years and losing loved ones, you two were stronger than ever.

So fast forward to 2024. The world is restored and you’ve come to accept the loss of Tony and Nat by moving forward as a prominent figure in getting Earth back to the way it was. Everett was with you every step of the way—although he was worried when you left to assist Sam and Bucky with the super soldier fiasco. It did not help that his ex-wife, Val who also was the Director of the CIA, was on his ass and threatened to have you arrested if things didn’t get cleaned up.

The news of T’Challa’s death brought sadness and grief to the both of you. If it wasn’t for him, Everett would have never survived the bullet wound to his spine. The two of you kept in touch after bringing him and everyone who vanished back with T’Challa sending you a condolence gift after Tony’s funeral. In the same fashion, you and Everett sent one to Shuri and Queen Ramonda. Contact with Shuri fell shortly later, but you both understood she was grieving the loss of her brother and let her know that you two were there for her if she every needed anything.

When Shuri does come to you nearly a year later asking about a scientist who developed a vibranium detector drill, you were more willing to give up the information than Everett. Technically you were not in the CIA and only a contact due to your relationship with Ross, but you understood he was risking treason if he were to say something. “Ev, they have the right to know. This is putting their people in jeopardy.”

It wasn’t too long after that Ev came to you with Shuri’s bracelet that he found at a crash site. It brought dread to you, for you feared something bad had happened and made it your mission to assist in finding her. You had made some new adjustments to Stark Industries and the tech (against the governments wishes), but was unable to locate her last signal. Ross kept you updated on his conversations with Queen Ramonda, and the fact it was possible Val was onto him. “She may have bugged the beads, Ev. You need to be careful.” “Her and I got to the site at the same time. There’s no way she knew they were there—I found them hidden under a piece of debris.”

But, like most cases, you were right. Val had bugged the beads before Ross had shown up and was aware of every conversation he had with Ramonda. You had been downtown in your lab, working on a way to find Shuri, when the news of the Queen’s death broke. Before you could even react there was a announcement from F.R.I.D.A.Y, “Forgive my interruption, Ms. Stark, but there has been an intrusion at your home.” Dread filled you, “Pull up the perimeter and indoor security footage at once.”

It is there you see the one and only Director Valentina Alegra de Fontaine standing in your kitchen and your poor fiancé looking pale faced and fearful. “Get me audio, F.R.I.D.A.Y.” Listening in, Val admits she had the beads bugged, heard every phone call, and knew you were involved. “I’ve already sent a squad out to detain Stark—the Accords may have been abolished but your girl has committed treason just as you have, Ross,” she says before pulling out handcuffs when Everett pleads to her to not do what she’s doing. Sure enough F.R.I.D.A.Y is letting you know a car with armed agents had arrived outside your building.

You managed to escape with little to no scratches on you—but the same could not be said for the agents. When you got to one of many safe houses, you finally let your emotions lose. You grieved for Ramonda, you cried for Shuri—who was now alone—and you feared for your fiancé. F.R.I.D.A.Y showed you footage of the house where you witnessed Everett cuffed and hauled into the back of a SUV.

Your hands were full with tracking the CIA’s decisions on Ev while also trying to get updates from Wakanda. The only one you managed to contact was Okoye—who took a liking to you in 2016 and fought along side you in 2018 & 2023–who told you everything that happened in the recent weeks. Okoye told you they were handling things and to not get involved. You promised and Okoye even gave her word that she’d help you find Ross once they finished with the Tolakons.

When the call does come from Okoye, you were filled with immense relief by what she tells you. That a truce was made between the two countries, Shuri made peace with Namor and has taken on the mantle of the Black Panther, and Wakanda was rebuilding itself after the attack. “I am so glad to hear you and the others are alright.” “Thank you, Y/n. It is a relief we were met with victory. Now let us save your love—Shuri has his location. I’m sending you coordinates, I will meet you there in the hour.” “Wha-wha-wait what? Are you in Virginia?” “The middle of the Atlantic Ocean to be exact.”

The answer to your question came in the form of a flying blue metal suit landing in front of you, “AH! What the hell?! Oh its you!” The alarm of threat turned into relief as a smile appeared on your face when the mask removed to reveal Okoye’s amused expression. Together you two intercept the van transferring Everett to prison with Okoye cutting down a tree to block the road. When the van comes to a stop, you pull the driver from his seat and shock him unconscious while Okoye deals with the passenger.

Instead of opening the back doors, you let Okoye have her fun and watch from the side as she throws open the doors—mask covering her identity—and could literally picture the look on Everetts face. You hold back your giggle at his sound of relief when she uncovers the mask and says, “Colonizer in chains. Now I have seen everything.”

That’s when you come around the side and meet his eyes, Everett can’t stop his grin. Hopping in the van you get his wrist and ankle cuffs off, “You know, it’s taken everything in me to not go after your ex for opening that bottle of wine we were saving for the rehearsal dinner.” “Well, darling, it looks like that wedding is gonna have to get pushed back. Again.”

Together the three of you head into the woods to where she parked the aircraft to take you three back to Wakanda. It was the safest option for you to at that moment, with being fugitives on the run. “Now I know how Cap and them felt all those years ago.” You could not tell anyone where you were, but sent word to Pepper, Rhodey, and Happy you were safe and with Everett. They were sad and Rhodey promised to find a way to get you two pardoned. “I’ll talk with Sam—see if there is something Fontaine is hiding that could help your case.” “Thank you, Rhodey. I appreciate what you’re doing greatly. I just hate I’m putting you in this position.”

It was unknown how long you and Ev would be on the run, but thankfully you two had the help of Shuri, Okoye, and the people of Wakanda by your side. For you owed them your life for everything they had done for you and Everett. “We’re lucky—you and I,” Everett said as you two watched the beautiful sunset from your balcony of the apartment Shuri had given you, “to have them as our friends.” “We are. And we will make it up to them as soon as we can. They have given us so much. I would rather meet death than not return the gratitude.” Everett presses a kiss to your forehead before one to your lips, “So would I.”

More Differences Between the Screenplay and Theatrical Release

I'm only on page 104 of 259. I might have to stop mentioning very minor changes or this will take days.

Another deleted dialogue. Shuri asks Ross if "DARPA" or "Project Pegasus" are the ones who made the vibranium detector. Both Marvel bad government agencies. DARPA has been mentioned in Agents of SHIELD and Runaways (hopefully both of those are canon!) and Project Pegasus is in several projects most prominently in Captain Marvel and The Avengers 1. (RiRi is out here putting the government to shame and I support her.)

Some extra bit of RiRi and Shuri bonding. On the motorcycle, Shuri compliments it and Riri asks her to keep it safe. Scene concludes with Riri shooting down a police helicopter.

Subplot involving Riri's notebook computer appears to have been cut. It was supposed to fall out of her Ironheart suit when she hit the pavement of the bridge. Val is to note it when she investigates (at the same time Ross finds the kimoyo beads) and since it's taken into custody. Then Ross mentions it to Ramonda when they speak over the kimoyo beads.

Okoye says the Talocanil are sensitive to fire and heat. This was probably cut because there wasn't much fire and heat in the way the fight was filmed. But maybe it's still important for your Namora fireside lover fanfic.

A bit more information on names from the scene where Okoye is dismissed. Okoye is called "Okoye daughter of Korabo" when addressed formally and Ayo is "Ayo, daughter of Kani". There is also a scene where Ramonda makes Ayo general. Which I know from what she wears later on but I still would've liked to see how Florence Kasumba played it.

Another scene between Val and Ross that I'm glad was cut. He was worried about "innocent bystanders" getting shot. She is annoyed he wasn't worried about the cops. Everything with Ross and Ramonda has multiple options. Not sure if this means it was when or why it was rewritten.

The scene between Ramonda and Namor on the beach was also rewritten. Then she prays to Bast for Shuri. And there is a scene between her and Griot about Nakia:

GRIOT Where to, my queen?

RAMONDA I need to see an old friend. Nakia, daughter of Yaa.

GRIOT I apologize my queen. The princess forbade me from collecting data on Nakia daughter of Yaa. She said she is, and I quote, “Dead to me.”

RAMONDA I do not need data from you about the love of my son’s life. I know exactly where she is.

8. The full text of the scene between Okoye and the Dora Milaje that was in the first trailer but not scene in the movie begins on page 99. Aneka was among them and she wants to allow Okoye to go. This is why she quits the dora milaje. This will probably be a deleted scene when it's on blu-ray.

9. The Mayan woman who Nakia speaks to about Namor says much more in the script, "When I was young, we would play in the rainforest and sometimes would catch a glimpse of a man with winged feet on the shore of the beach, or a river. Sometimes as a form flitting through the sky.

We thought he was a spirit, not a man. The K’uk’ulkan. Our Feathered Serpent God of this realm and the realm below.

On my wedding night, my husband and I left the celebration to swim in the sea. Moonlight glittering off the waves. We were young, foolish. We got swept out by the currents, my dress pulling me down into the depths.

I lost grip of Josue’s hand and started to drown, until I felt myself being lifted out of the water. He brought me back to the shore, Josue unconscious but alive on the sand. Saved, by K’uk’ulkan.

I am sad for this actress that her monologue got cut.

Some more Secret Invasion stuff

Here's a screencap of Nick Fury at the end of No Way Home he's got his eyepatch and looks svelte. Here is Nick Fury in the first episode of Secret Invasion. He's emphasizing his gray hair, wearing layers to make himself look out of shape, pretending to limp.

I believe Maria Hill when she says he's not ready for the fight in Secret Invasion but I think that's mental, not physical or capability-wise.

He's definitely trying to get Gravik (and possibly Sonya?) to underestimate him. But unclear how much he is playing (like is it possible Maria Hill's death was a fake to make Gravik feel complacent? Winter Soldier Nick Fury faked his own death so it's possible).

I don't know if we will find out what's really going on with him until we meet his wife. (She has been cast. But how many episodes Priscilla is in isn't known.)

I do think we'll see a triumhant return of the eye patch scene since we know he wears it in The Marvels.

PS. Anyone know what was going on with Hill that she trusted the Skrull!Ross? Is "SHIELD" just a group of spies on the run now? I don't understand what happened to that organization. Because everyone thinks it's destroyed in Winter Soldier, when Hill went undercover with the Avengers. But the TV series made us think there was some remaining infrastructure. But I'm not sure if any of that is canon now!

Considering that Sharon Carter got left in the lurch according to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and SWORD existed as an evil organization in WandaVision, it doesn't seem like SHIELD is much of anything on Earth anymore.

Was Maria just trying to do something about the Skrulls by herself until Ross popped up and said he'd help since he was on the run now. And she was just like "Oh cool." (He's probably really chillin in Wakanda rn, although still a chance he'll pop up in one of those pods the Skrulls keep the humans in to get their memories but I have trouble believing Okoye would allow him to be taken.)

ETA: Also Nat had to ask her fixer for a plane and help in Black Widow. Not SHIELD? Not Maria?

I’m far from being an expert in any of this, so forgive me, but I love the general idea of Everett K. Ross being something much more interesting than he seems. It makes his taking this role make so much more sense if there is some bigger future, some twist. I see people all the time suggesting he’s a Skrull, which really does fit into his being in Secret Invasion. But this is funny too (3:00-16:00ish)

Anyway it doesn’t really matter, I just want to see him in as much as I can, and I want him to have fun and stretch and be appreciated. Whatever it is I’m still putting my money on it being more than it seems, in some way.

I am afraid I can't really help you. 😔I have exactly one fic bookmarked on AO3 that features Everett (Link). I tried finding interesting Everett fics in the past, but nothing ever really piqued my interest. I wasn't very thorough in my search, tho. I am sure there are very good Everett fics out there, but I have not discovered them yet.

Maybe some of my followers can recommend a few fics?

Fluff Headcanons 🥰| Everett Ross

Just some random fluffy headcanons for our favorite CIA agent being domestic;

Ross is a romantic, but likes to keep that side of him private and only reserved for you. His love language would be quality time or acts of service both giving and receiving.

Expect your lunch to be packed every morning with a cute note telling you to have a great day and that he loves you. Sometimes if he’s feeling cheeky they will be flirty but overall his notes are pg.

Everett knows how you like your coffee/tea/smoothie (whatever you really prefer). Not only has he taught himself how to perfect making it, but also orders it the correct way whenever he goes to a cafe to pick you one if you ask him too. “Perfect as always, my love.”

When getting dressed in the morning, Everett let’s you pick out his tie or full suit. Sometimes you do it the night before but if you forget then you’ll pick out one in a hurry. Thankfully it’s always matching and Everett will gaze lovingly at you while you fix his tie. “Stop starting at me like that.” “But you’re just so beautiful, darling.”

He makes it his mission to take you on a date at least every week or make it up with two in one week if he’s unable to. Work can get crazy and sometimes go overtime, but Ross will still try to get off at a reasonable hour to take you out. Sometimes it’s to dinner, or a movie, maybe even the beach if the weather. It’s always worth seeing your awe expression and being able to have a good time away from the chaos of everyday life.

Believe it or not, Everett is a concert goer. He loves music and it’s one of the reasons you two got together was your shared love of it. Being so close to D.C you guys get some big acts so expect Everett to randomly come up to you and say, “(insert artist/group) is playing next month. You in?” “Do you even have to ask, silver-fox?”

You guys own a dog and a cat. Adopting them both at the shelter together the animals are very close yet break out into sibling fights all the time. Your dog tends to lean toward Ev while the cat takes a liking to you. You two will go to sleep on the bed snuggled up, just the two of you, but wake up with your cat nestled on top of your pillow and your dog squeezed between you two with their head tucked in Ev’s bicep.

You guys love to watch shows together, and often reserve days off dedicated to binge watching them. You guys got through the entirety of Game of Thrones (screw season 8), the Sopranos, The Crown, Stranger Things (which Ev loved cause his childhood was in the 80s), and caught up on Abbott Elementary. Then if it’s a show where you have to sit down every weekend for a new episode—you guys are currently on Yellowstone Sunday’s—then you two will grab take out, wine, and blankets before snuggling up on the couch to tune in. “This season is gonna be insane with John as governor.” “Yeah, Market Equities is for sure gonna be pissed and start some shit.”

At the end of every year, you guys donate to shelters and the Salvation Army with canned goods, clothing you no longer wear, books & store bought necessities you accumulated for the donation. Ev will often call before hand to let them know you guys will be coming, and after so many years the workers have become your friends—they are so grateful for you two that they often wonder what makes you continue which you always say, “there’s so much evil and wrong doing we see every day, it feels good to do something right. There are people who need these things more than us.”

His phone contact name for you is “My world 🌎🤍” with a photo of you sticking your tongue out to the camera. The ringtone for when you call him is “Lover,” by Taylor Swift. For him, you put his name as “Pretty Boy ❤️‍🔥🧸” with his photo being a picture of him in a tux when y’all went to a banquet and he’s adjusting the cuff of his wrist. The song you chose to blast when he calls is, “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” by Def Leppard.
