I’m reading No Crying in Baseball, about the making of A League of Their Own (film), and it keeps making me tear up lol. It was such a novel experience for so many of these actresses to get to work with so many other women all at once and not just be like the love interest or a set decoration. They got to be tough! And dirty! And ugly!! And there was a lot of hooking up behind the scenes! But the part that really got to me was that the studio was so worried about who was going to see it, because it’s a sports movie and those are For Men (🙄) but they didn’t think men would watch “girls playing baseball” (🙄🙄🙄🙄), and then someone involved in production screened it for his daughters who were 10 and 6 and they went absolutely bananas for it, so the studio realized that this was going to be huge with young girls. And none of them had stopped to consider what having this movie would mean to little (white) girls. They hadn’t even realized it would mean so much and be so enduringly popular!!!

being Skeet Ulrich daughter and dating Jack Champion
Tumblr media
Some people could think that being the child of an icon actor from the 90s will be overwelming, but to you, it was an honnor to be one of the children of Skeet Ulrich
Being the youngest child meant that you were treated like a baby by your family, especially your older siblings who liked to play dress up with you
Mostly putting the ghostface mask that Skeet kept as a memory from Scream on you
When Skeet saw your little body with the big ass mask and a little robe, he only laugh and took a photo of you
You didn't understand the meaning of the mask until you were eight and saw the four movies
So when your father was asked to make a comeback for a new Scream movie, you were the most excited and asked him if you could go with him
But because of the pandemic, his scenes had to be filmed in a green screen, but you went to see the process of filming
While being there, you made a bond with Melissa who played Sam, Billy Lomis daughter, calling her your "half fictional sister"
Radio Silence, the group of directors, even offered you a small cameo in the next movie, which you gladly acepted with your fathers permition due to you still being a minor
So a year later, when the filming in Montreal started, you flew there with your father, due to him having to shoot scenes for the movie
Arriving there, there was a reunion with the current and new cast to get to know each other
That's when you and Jack met
It was nice to have someone your age to hang out in the middle of a cast of young adults and grown ups
He felt the same, but at the same time he was nervous because you were the daughter of Skeet Ulrich, one of the OG ghostface
But with the more time that you both spend together, he realised that you were almost the same chaotic as him
When the time to filming arrived, the directors told you that your cameo will be on one of the first scenes during a Halloween party and your costume will be one of your fathers recent characters, which was a female version of F.P. Jones with your own jacket that the crew of Riverdale gifted you on your sixteen birthday
At the moment that Jack saw you, he was speachless by how beautiful you looked, while you look at him with curiosity because of his diy knight costume
"This is so creative", you laughed analyzing the costume, "I love it"
"Really?", Jack asked with a little smile
"Of course", you exclaimed, "I can already saw a lot of people doing this for actual Halloween"
Hearing that words, the smile that Jack had on his face only grow with confidence
Enough confidence to asked you out on a date at that same moment, which you acepted
On the weekend during Jacks free days, you went to a amusement park with both of your parents supervision due to still being minors
In that date, during one of the games he won a red dragon plushie which he gave to you as a gift
The plushie ended up being named Jake, for American Dragon: Jake Long
During the next weeks of filming, you avoided to go to the set in order to not get spoiled on the entire plot of the movie
So, your interactions with Jack were only during his free times or when he wasn't filming
Dates at his or yours hotel room, at restaurants, parks, etc
Even if your dad tried to see something bad in Jack, he couldn't because the guy was a sweetheart
(When Jack knew he was one of the ghostface, he asked Skeet for advice on his performance, which he was glad to give)
Jacks mom loves you, when he and your dad are on set, she often is making you company, it doesn't matter if it's watching a movie in the hotel or walking on the city
Switching childs was the name that she and your dad gave it
It wasn't until the wrap party, that Jack finally asked you if you wanted to be his girlfriend
Which you gladly acepted
From that moment, and thanks to both of you living in the same city, you often spend time in each others houses
Surprisingly, Butter, his sphynx cat, attached to you quickly, so you often put him inside the pocket of your hoodies, specially when was cold or hug him while taking naps
For a while, both of you decided to keep your relationship private until the Avatar era
It started with him saying things like "my girlfriend...", or things that both of you had done that connect with the question asked
During that days, you and Jack liked to see the reaction of the internet and the theories
The only people who knew where his castmates who had fun in keeping the secret
When the day of the London premier arrived, both of you walked the carpet hand by hand, and taking photos together with some interviews, until you gave him space to take individual photos
Let's say that the internet was crazy after the photos were released
After going public, photos, lives, tiktoks, etc together were almost always
Almost everytime that you open tiktok, you saw at leat five edits of both of you, which you send him
Trinity was like a little sister to you, often hearing her songs everyday
He even managed to you to acompany him to the gym, but you stayed in the cardio machines
When the time of Scream VI arrived, you went with your dad and walk a small part of the carpet with a few photos taken, and then you spent the rest with Jack
Seventeen even mannaged to get an interview with you
"Y/N, you look absolutely beaufitul!", the girl who was the reported exclaimed making you blushed, "What are you wearing?"
"This is Balmain, I wanted to go with the theme, so this black dress was the one"
"It's stunning, how do you feel at being here?"
"It's so cool, I watched the first four movies when I was eight and then I got to be in the set for the last and this one"
"I was informed that you have a cameo, can we know at what moment?"
"I'm just going to say that you'll know when you see me, just pay attention", you joked making her laugh
"And not only you get a cameo out of this movie, also someone special", she said making your face red, "Can we talk about that?"
"Oh my god, I thought I was ready for this question", you laughed, "Yes, I met someone special during this, and it was easy to connect beacuse we were the only minors, and Jack is the sweetest boy that I've ever met, is an adventure everyday with him"
"I just want to say that you are one of the best couples at the moment", she said, "What was your fathers reaction when he knew you and Jack were dating?"
"He was there, and he almost went Billy Loomis mood, but he loves him, don't tell my dad I said that"
"Well, it was nice talking to you, Y/N, you look stunning"
"You look stunning as well, have a good night, enjoy the movie"
During the movie, you almost jumped from your seat when the ghostface reveal was, not noticing that Jack was filming your reaction

Now that I've played the MW campaign and am even more unhinged about the MW3 campaign, here are my completely unasked for thoughts on how Activision should've mapped out the games for an at least 6 game story arc
MW
Absolutely no changes. Kyle is a precious muffin. Price is a precious muffin. Alex is a precious muffin. Farah is a queen.
Interesting campaign. Diverse levels. Dynamic and well thought out storyline.
MW2
My baby. The love of my life. My most precious muffin. That campaign? That storyline? Chef's kiss. Ale and Rudy? The best additions. Valeria?? Fucking wonderful. That plot twist?? Grasping my pearls
No changes
MW3
More 141 levels, make the intro levels 141 as a well oiled machine, digging up the intel telling about the prison break. Give more background to what Farah is in the middle of instead of dropping right in especially with fucking Graves suddenly chilling on the comms, bridging that gap between MW2 and here. Take out a good chunk of the Makarov cut scenes and give more levels chasing intel, letting the player put together the pieces with every cold trail Makarov leaves behind, getting frustrated along with the team. Keep the flashback once the team reaches boiling point, but make Ghost less inclined towards Johnny to keep more inline with their reluctant start in MW2.
Shepherd and Graves go off the grid after they give their intel, they disappear. Makarov is making moves in Urzikstan so 141 goes to help ULF (did I mention more 141?). It was a distraction, they uncover Makarov's plans for London, scramble back, it plays out, Price ends up dead (it's a military game, people are going to die, and Price dying had the most potential impact. Come along, I'll explain), Makarov gets away.
Final cut scene is a funeral send off Price deserves, montage of the boys back on base dealing with the aftermath, and Laswell finding Ghost, explaining how he's the Lieutenant, he's the obvious next choice to take up the mantle and Ghost simply says "I'm not the obvious choice" and the final scene pans on Gaz, the Robin to Price's Batman.
The levels will be meatier, longer, and at least 5 more added to deepen the story. Diversity of the play style will be more than just standard campaign and online-layout. The Makarov plot will be discovered by the player, not told to them, adding more intrigue to the character. The final level will be multi tiered, hopping between the two pairs. Actually 8 hours of gameplay instead of the measly 3 they gave us (yes, the MW3 campaign is 3 hours of gameplay compared to MW and MW2s 8 hours each)
MW4
Open to 141 arriving on mission, Soap tapping Gaz on the shoulder and says "Ready when you are, Captain" with that cheeky smile. Makarov's gone dark, eerily quiet the past couple months, but they have a lead on Shepherd and Graves so they're going in. It all points back to Mexico, Graves accepting his military career is fucked after Las Almas and turning Shadow Company into full mercs instead of PMCs now, specializing in weapons dealings. He recognized the advantage a deal with Valeria could have and they've been working together.
CUT TO LOS VAQUEROS/141 REUNION. More Alejandro and Rudy background (just let Alain Mesa, the BAFTA Game Award Nominee for this freaking role, fucking shine). Dive into the Valeria background, make the raid mentioned during her interrogation a flashback level in Valeria's POV. The team has to go undercover to get close to the intel, Rudy gets picked, gathers the intel, but gets compromised. Now its a race to rescue Rudy. Ale and Gaz go after Rudy while Soap and Ghost follow the lead Rudy got them. Ale and Gaz raid a cartel base/prison, let Ale take Gaz under his wing recognizing the young captain's feeling the pressure, some banter, some advice, wholesome Ale and Gaz bonding.
Soap, on the other hand, is barely being contained by Ghost. He's in full attack dog mode with Graves scent nearby and Ghost has half a mind to let the demolition expert go completely feral, but the lieutenant part of him keeps his sergeant in check. Further their dynamic, more banter balancing right on the edge. They clear out the compound, find a gold mine of intel around the dealings, and Johnny gets to put the bullet right between Graves' eyes.
One line in the intel catches their eyes - Makarov
MW5/6
Make the Makrov storyline a 3 game storyline - MW3 intro and back-to-back MW 5 and 6. Now with ties in Mexico and ULF, all established teams and beloved characters can be brought in in some aspect throughout both games to take him down.
Ale and Rudy are cleaning up El Sin Nombre's ties in Las Almas, cutting each line of Valeria's arms dealings, trying to cut off the courier of Makarov's destruction.
Farah continues to lead ULF to free Urzikstan, Makarov taking advantage of the dissent and chaos and placing a foothold there, ultimately dividing forces and efforts from his background machinations.
With Makarov's trail warm again, the 141 are out for blood. Could take the plunge and make GhostSoap canon through subtle dialogue options or touch gestures in cut scenes. The end is possibly near, they're all allowing themselves to think about the future, why not take the plunge Activision? Or they stay vague/platonic and the dynamic is further developed. Dialogue options and cut scenes show further bond with Gaz as well who's stepped into being Captain a little more, easing into the shoes.
MW5 is cat and mouse. Makarov leaves little treats and traps and the team is chasing after their tails, always 3 steps behind him. Give Makarov more scenes, not telling the player his plan but let his character development fly. Let the unhingedness flourish.
Finally, they catch a break at the end of the game and MW6 is the final chase. 8 hours of them hunting down Makarov. Ale and Rudy cleaned up Las Almas and can join them, bringing the whole gang together internationally (bonus points to make one a cold weather mission and the two Mexicans are just bitching the whole time just for Soap and Ghost to tease them back about payback for having to deal with the Mexican desert for a whole week). Two characters would die (not in one game, over the course of the two) - Farah (she's been a fighter her whole life, it would be a full circle for her to heroically go out with a gun in her hand) and either Ghost or Soap.
Soap dying here would be so much more impactful. He'd be more established as a character, have deeper relationships with all members of the game, and it's highly possible to have a situation where a charge isn't going so he's the only one who can pull it off (reminiscent of Hevy in TCW). Going out in a blaze just like he's always imagined.
Ghost dying would be another full circle option with his canon (it would be a sacrificial choice, dying on his own terms as his own choice) and with his long career, it would be heartbreaking but understandable. This also leaves the 141 in the hands of the two youngest, the Captain and the new Lieutenant, tasked with bringing in the next generation of the best soldiers.
And if there just happens to be a cut scene where Johnny has an extra pair of dog tags and a modest ring dangling from his chain? Then you know I infiltrated the Activision writers' room.
Oh what happened to Shepherd you ask? End credits role on MW6 and another cut scene begins. A lone cabin in the middle of nowhere in the woods, smoke trailing out of the chimney. Cut interior, a haggard Shepherd bent over a desk, mumbling to himself, scribbling on something. He tacks the paper on the board in front of him, revealing Gaz and Soap's pictures amidst a mess of strings and maps and notes saying "Traitors". Then it cuts black
Boom, there you go Activision. Enjoy all of your awards and record breaking sales. It could've been that easy

I really absolutely love the idea of LoL Jinx being Jinx’s reputation, or maybe even a crazy persona she intentionally projects onto the world, but not how she really is.
There’s this passage from her game bio that hints at smth sinister and mysterious that happened and sets up the question of ‘what made Jinx the way she is?’.
No one knows for certain what happened to turn that sweet young child into a wildcard, infamous for her wanton acts of destruction.
But when she emerges and makes a name for herself as a terrorist the average citizen would only see her cackling as she blows up buildings and wouldn’t care to ponder this question. Well, her LoL behavior fits the stereotype of a crazy woman and it makes sense that in-universe ppl would perceive her like that and nothing more. She’d kinda become a boogeyman to Piltover/Zaun and they’d see her as such, as this exaggerated caricature of 'crazy'.
Ig what I’m trying to say is that we learn the story chronologically but imagine we first meet adult Jinx and then there are reveals or flashbacks. You’d never believe LoL Jinx has this much depth or such a real and tragic aspect to her. It could be a fantastic story on its own. So new characters having this kinda arc with Jinx where they first hear/see the fake persona and then gradually learn the truth about her could be super compelling. I think in a lot of ways it’s way more compelling than e.g. the observant Cait just going back and summing up Jinx to everybody else in Piltover in one sentence like 'her issues are a,b,c' like she watched Arcane alongside us and ig everybody's caught up now, no need to do these revelations through arcs and interactions.
Especially that there’s groundwork for this type of reveals with already established characters like Cait, Vi and Ekko. The story is intentionally constructed so that they don’t have nowhere near as much of an insight into Jinx that we got, like of course Cait would only see her as a psychopath, she investigated her crimes for months, nearly died in the explosion, saw her violent behavior during the reunion and bridge scenes and then got kidnapped and then witnessed her blowing up the government with her mom inside. And this sentiment also applies to everyone who didn’t know Powder and isn’t the audience. But even Vi and Ekko don’t seem to know enough to understand what’s going on. They knew Powder but as far as we know they have next to no interactions with her after she becomes Jinx and mainly just see her from her violent side and also from a distance.
Idk if this comparison makes sense but I get the impression that ppl’s takes on mcu Loki depend on whether they remember the events of Thor 1, and based on that they see him as tormented and complicated or a cartoon psychopath villain. So that’s kinda what I mean. LoL Jinx is if you skipped the set-up movies and went straight into Avengers and Arcane Jinx is if you watched everything chronologically and have full context for a character’s behavior. And while we already know enough to understand why Jinx became Jinx, it’s still a crucial and lingering question cos it’s a questions a lot of characters ponder and they never got that answer in s1. So s2 could explore their perspective, seeing Jinx only behaving like a maniac until finally getting answers to their questions.
Ig my point is that Arcane is clearly going in a different direction so I don't expect or want the characters to end up being identical to their game counterparts but I also find the idea that Jinx masks herself with an exaggerated crazy persona more compelling than the idea that she is perceived by everyone in s2 exactly as she is, even tho a huge part of s1 is how misunderstood she is by everyone around her and how she leans into her strengths and into how ppl perceive her for empowerment.

Having recently posted my HSM4 fic here, I went back and reread all my old fics on fanfiction.net and thought others might be interested in them as well.
15 of the fics were part of a series called Extra Innings that were all written by me and a friend immediately after HSM2, exploring the relationship between Ryan and Chad that started with the baseball dance # “I Don’t Dance”. I also deal with Ryan's relationship with Sharpay a lot as well as his friendship with the other Wildcats.
See below for links to my HSM fics (in the chronological order of the show).
Inspiration= A missing scene from HSM1. Kelsi observes the Evans twins rehearsing.
Musical Auditions= Sharpay and Ryan discuss what musical they'd like to perform in next.
Fantasy Football= Ryan's decided to go out for the football team, and Sharpay realizes why.
Extra Innings stories
Wildest Dreams = Ryan is upset that his team didn’t win the staff baseball game, but running into the Wildcats—especially Chad—in the locker room afterwards cheers him up.
Hanging Out = After the baseball game, Ryan finds himself welcomed by a new group of friends.
Dancing Lessons = The dance lessons weren't going as well as either boy had hoped. Perhaps it was time to try a new tactic.
Fever = A sweltering dance lesson, a kiss, and the aftermath. [6 chapters]
Oh Brother! = Sharpay tries to come to terms with a recent discovery about her brother.
Advice = Ryan seeks dating advice from friends and family. A continuation of our other ChadRyan stories.
First Date = Chad and Ryan have a disastrous first date, but all's well that ends well. [The final Coda is rated Mature.]
Second Date: Bowled Over =Chad and Ryan's second date is comandeered by Wildcats.
Ryan's Musical Revue = Sharpay decides it's time to introduce Chad to Ryan's past lives...all the roles he's played.
Karaoke Night = Sharpay invites Chad and Zeke to join the twins at Wednesday Karaoke Night.
Clueless = After Gabriella calls him "Clueless", Troy tries to pay more attention to his friends...and discovers something about Ryan and Chad.
Back To School = The Wildcats return to school for their senior year after the summer at Lava Springs. Has everything changed, or is it back to the old routine? [3 chapters]
Freaky Friday = The students of East High get to walk a mile in each other's shoes during a school-sponsored Freaky Friday event. [5 chapters]
Family Courtside = Mr. Evans takes Ryan to a basketball game as he tries to deal with the fact that Ryan is dating Chad.
Double Skate = Sharpay goes on her first "date" with Zeke. [4 chapters]
RHPSM = Chad attends a midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show with his friends. Chad/Ryan. Please note: coarse language and references to a rated-R movie -- may not be appropriate for younger readers!
--
canon to HSM3:
Obvious = It's obvious why Ryan and Chad are reacting differently to their high school graduation. Inspired by Hey Monday song "Obvious". My HSM4 fic is canon to this one.
A Last Huzzah = It's only days since graduation, and Ryan and Sharpay are discussing their summer plans.
Nov 15, 2008: Txting Txting 123 = It's November 15, 2008, and the Evans twins are communicating across the miles. [In November 2008, a law called Prop 8 was passed in California which took away the right for gay couples to marry! On Nov. 15, millions of people across America participated in marches protesting this law—I researched the marches in each of the cities mentioned so they’d be accurate.]
Just Desserts, a sequel to Txting Txting 123 = A sequel to "November 15, 2008 -- Txting Txting 123". Everyone's home from Thanksgiving and eager to talk about their experiences at the "No on Prop 8" rallies.
Spring Musical Awakening = The Evans twins are each cast in a production of their colleges' spring musical production of "Spring Awakening". Dialogue only, but based on an R-rated musical so beware. [2 chapters]
Concert Chaos = Ryan and Sharpay go to see JONAS in concert!
HSM4: The Reunion = It’s the 15th anniversary of the best class ever, but the returning East High Wildcats aren’t quite as happy as they should be. A lot has changed, but there’s some things that never do. Maybe getting the whole gang back together was just what everyone needed. [based on HSMTMTS s4; canon to HSM3 & my fic Obvious]
--
set post HSM2 – Rated Mature!
Dancing Now = After the Star Dazzle show, Ryan hooks up with Chad...fully aware that Chad isn’t really interested in HIM.
Only Time Could Tell, a sequel to Dancing Now = Immediately follows Dancing Now, showing how Chad redeems himself after betraying Ryan.

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Round 1, Side A, Match 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda under the cut!
Tasutsumu:
Submission 1:
(exploding) sorry if this is badly written i am walking rn . Mods know the series but A3 is about stage actors.
TasuTsumu are literally the friends to lovers ever. They're childhood friends, even. They did everything together. They've acted together since elementary school. but then (VINE BOOM) they both try out for a prestigious acting troupe called GODza... but only Tasuku makes it in (sad horn sounds) Tsumugi lost a ton of confidence after not making it and kinda ghosted Tasuku and ran away from his problems </3 he originally had given up, but missed the stage so he tried out again at the Mankai Company (troupe all of the characters are in). Of course, as fate has it, Tasuku had just left GODza after their... unsavory business tactics, but the troupe had blacklisted him from becoming an actor at any other high end troupes in the area, leaving him to go to the Mankai Company. And of course times 2, he and Tsumugi try out for the same troupe. Tasuku is less than pleased with seeing Tsumugi's face after he just disappeared before, and things between them are tense, especially when Tasuku gets fed up with Tsumugi's lack of confidence after he becomes the troupe's leader. But!! Fate wants them to get along (and be together) and Tsumugi finds this cursed doll that traps them in a time loop of the same day. They're stuck until they resolve their issues. Nothing like a good ol divine intervention to get two friends to lovers back together. tldr Tsumugi owns up to his insecurities to Tasuku and works to overcome it. In the process, while performing their play in an act off (if they end up in the competition i'll actually essay about it) Tsumugi feels that his acting is inferior once again and totally bombs a show. Tasuku finally works around his own regrets of not reaching out before when Tsumugi had "quit," telling him how much he loves and envies Tsumugi's acting, and apologizes to Tsumugi. Then boom they pull off an incredibly gay play about angels and become lovers (not canon but Trust me).
please let me write properly about them and put them in i love my blorbos <3 they were made for this tournament
Submission 2:
absolute best friends in childhood who had a very impactful falling out, but managed to resolve things. nowadays they're in a theatre troupe together where their troupe is quite literally married.
Submission 3:
1. CHILDHOOD FRIENDS
2. Their introductory arc was literally a whole divorce-reunion arc. They divorced because Tsumugi failed an audition into the God Squad theatre troupe while Tasuku got in which was a blow to Tsumugi's confidence as an actor and he ran away and Tasuku was mad at him for that. It was literally so bad that the game had to break its slice-of-life genre to introduce a doll that traps people in a timeloop until they're able to make up, and they (and another guy who's kinda a cryptid) are the only ones aware that the day keeps repeating
3. After one of their shows, Tsumugi overhears some audience members criticising him and comparing him to Tasuku, which leads to him changing his acting style in the next show which completes bombs their show. Out of shame, Tsumugi runs away, and it takes Tasuku some hesitating before chasing after him and finally telling him how he REALLY feels -- that he was guilty for not being able to do anything to help Tsumugi when he failed that audition years ago and ran away, and that he admires Tsumugi's acting for what it is. The anime makes this scene even gayer by having them meet on a bridge in the snow and Tasuku holding an umbrella over Tsumugi's head as he pours his heart out to Tsumugi
4. Tsumugi regains his confidence after hearing that, and they finally FINALLY 100% reconcile
Zenyuki:
they start out strangers who despite their different statuses become friends, who then gradually develop feelings for each other as they continue to get to know each other better! despite being a prince, zen treats shirayuki like an equal, helping her out with her herbalist qualifying exams even staying up late in the greenhouse and getting his hands literally dirty with soil all to help her. shirayuki also treats zen like a friend and doesn't kowtow or walk on eggshells around him just bc he's a prince. they have so much mutual admiration and respect for each other, and they inspire each other to grow and chase their goals! i also really like that the story goes out of their way to show that they have lives outside of each other, that they both have separate goals, responsibilities, and duties but they come together to support each other in working towards them! also that neck kiss scene mmm i think about that a lot

Many ppl say Tommy disrespects grace because he called Campbell to tell him he's about to fuck her. Like she was a conquest only. Can you provide your analysis on that scene please
Hello!
Yes, I have seen those comments, and I understand why they say that, because they always come from Lizzie fans and Grace haters. The relationship between Tommy and Campbell in S1, especially in S2, is based on naming Grace, at any possible time, to annoy the other. If you watch the show, you realize how Tommy does nothing but think about Grace, miss her and try to forget her. Their reunion was something Tommy had been looking forward to for two years, and the least he had in mind was to tell Campbell. He simply saw an opportunity to bother Campbell again and beat him in that toxic, but funny for us, game the two had in S1-S2. And at the end of S2, we see how that game, that battle, is finally over and Tommy is the big winner, "She loves me" he says it in a very proud way.

MORTAL KOMBAT 1 Thoughts Pt3.
[❌❌xontains SPOILERS ❌❌]
The final thoughts on the game as it's coming to an end. This was a ride!
Chapter 11
You go king. Show Sindel horrors beyond comprehension
Oohh, I love the incorporated acknowledgement of the plot from MK11 here.
Liu Kang is so humble, it makes him such a good character?? I was so scared he'd become too nice to handle, but they managed to balance him so well.
This existential anomalies concept is giving ATSV vibes.
D-did Nitara just straight up hiss at Sindel,, LOL
It literally warms my heart to see Sindel, Kitana and Mileena being a loving family. So far honestly the best decision by NRS.
Chapter 12
Lesbians
I'm in tears about this family reunion. I wonder if Jerrod is now fully in charge of the created Ermac body, or if this will be a "fight for the control of the mind and body" kinda trope.
Sindel dies after all, what???? That's not fair,, we had just gotten good Empress Sindel😭😭😭 at least she is within Jerrod now
Where did they leave Kung Lao, Raiden, Johnny, Kenshi and Syzoth in all of this?? Homeboys are literally missing out on all the drama.
This really is turning into ATSV, does that mean we get to see other reoccurring characters too??
Chapter 13
I know I said this before, but Liu Kang Geras' friendship means so much to me. He really be looking out for his friend qwq
"Dark doubles" now this one is a little confusing. Are those the dark doubles from MK11 which means Scorpion would still be Hanzo Hasashi, or did Shang Tsung recreate the Universe to the exact same as Liu Kang has, except made everyone follow him?
Was that an Armageddon reference 👀👀
Never in a lifetime would I have thought that Raiden, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi would become a fun trio.
Shang is way too baby girl, it's making me low-key uncomfortable. It feels so wrong.
Dark Shao Khan looks so silly, while Dark Reiko is serving c0nt
Chapter 14
I don't like how this chapter is called Time of Death and it starts with Liu Kang in the scene.
KITANA????? KITANA WAS A TITAN???? So ALL of the Tower Endings were real?? AND canon???
"You were my Liu Kang" btch I'm bawling
Yo, everyone's Dark Timeline look is absolutely stunning.
I'm such a fan of Liu Kang kicking Nitara.
These fights are so cool but visually so confusing. I never know where to look.
Chapter 15
THERE IS A FEMALE JOHNNY LMAO
Ohno, I don't like this "select your final warrior" option.
Not Quan Chi waking down like a Hell Priest
Wait BLACK DRAGON SONYA??
John Kahner......I would have loved you see that timeline.
I appreciate the various Easter Eggs put into game, but I hate (I'm being dramatic) the character mashups like Scorp Lao, John Kahner, Stung Lao, Frostbite, Quantum Chi,
The various Johnny's are killing me. Especially Mime Johnny. We need a spin off with all the Johnnys.
HOLD ON A FREAKING SECOND. CASSIE, JACQUI, TAKEDA AND KUNG JIN??? AYOO??
I think the new Era Shang Tsung is pretty redeemable.
These final fights are a little stressful ngl.
I-what....what just happened. Is it like just over over l. Was this a snap shot to another time line? Am I missing something? Is it over just like that?
I called it. I knew it was the damn Shirai Ryu.
Weird thought, but is Madame Bo the alt version to Bo Rai Cho by chance?
"Changed the Arcs of our lives" very sweet double meaning, but I feel like it has a secret third meaning, and I'm unsure if I like it. I'm sure there is something coming to sting.
Conclusion of the game;
THAT'S IT?? THAT'S FCKING ALL?? Why does this feel like the end of the entire franchise??? I know the title being MK1 implies that there WILL be future installments. But this very much felt like the end of a Saga, and it is really pulling the strings of my heart.
I have so many questions still. What's next to come? What does the end of this now mean for the entire MK universe? What will they do to Shang Tsung? Will Titan Kitana be back? What about all other Characters that have become Titans? Will we see other returning characters from previous games in the future? Is there even room for new conflicts??
But overall, I loved it so much. It was absolutely worth the wait, I sincerely hope that there will be more in the future and that we didn't have to say goodbye.
NRS have really outdone themselves. Each MK game just kept becoming cooler and cooler, with MK1 now completely putting me in awe with the story, animation, designs, effects etc I am honestly not sure how they're gonna top that for the next games.
I do have to say though, that while I don't agree with some of the changes done to the story and characters, I think my favourite thing in this "reboot" is that they made Kitana and Mileena ACTUAL twin sisters.
Some characters seem also a lot more interesting now too. I'm specifically thinking Kung Lao, Raiden, Smoke and Mileena (Please don't come at me. I know how everyone was literally all over her, but I simply wasn't a fan. That has changed now obviously).
Though while I really really REALLY adored Reptile in this game, I do wish they would have kept the original Saurian Lore, - or at least part of it. In my mind it would have made more sense for the Human look.
This game was intense, interesting, captivating, funny, and tearjerking. I am still so amazed, but also feel now that void in my chest. I'm not sure how things will go from now on, but MK will continue to remain one of my fave games ever.
This really was a ride y'all.

Whistles, shouts, and footsteps could be heard echoing throughout the Clover Train Station. Families traveling to and fro, people talking on their cell phones as they walked to their trains, people laughing with their friends as they waited. It was one of the busiest places in the city besides Main Street.
William quietly paced back and forth on the platform, the train he was waiting for had just pulled in, and now all he had to do was wait for the people to disembark the train. He watched as many different faces stepped off the train and onto the platform, but none of them were who he was waiting for.
He continued watching as he paced slowly, the sound of people chatting and the sound of his own thoughts steadily drowned out the sound of his dress shoes clicking against the stone floor of the station. What if he was at the wrong platform, and she was sitting there waiting for him? What if he had the wrong time? Or what if he was at the wrong station entirely?
He shook his head, no, he had everything right. He had asked Idalia multiple times earlier that day, and he even wrote it down, so surely this was the right place! Maybe she just hadn’t gotten off the train yet? Or maybe, no, could they have missed each other?!
William groaned as he slumped forward, this was his first time being in charge of someone, and he had already screwed it up!
Suddenly, he felt someone tap his shoulder. He turned around and saw the person he was waiting for.
Neva Belmonte. His ‘little sister’ as he jokingly liked to refer to her as since they looked so similar, despite not being related, and had known each other since she was a small child.
“ Oh, you’re here. Did you have a good trip?” William asked as he quickly took her bags from her, and the young girl nodded.
“ I did,” She told him softly as she let him take her bags. “ It’s been a while since I’ve been on a train, it was nice.” She added as she looked around the train station.
The two stood there a bit awkwardly. Neva was usually a quiet and soft-spoken person, but it seemed to be even more pronounced now that she was in a new environment.
“ You got taller.” He said, trying his best to break the awkward tension between them. Neva nodded.
“ 3 Years will do that.”
“ R-Right, of course,” William agreed with a nervous laugh.
William had been friends with Neva’s parents ever since he was around 16 years old. They happened to meet by chance when he started working at Idalia, Neva’s mothers, bakery. The couple had kind of adopted him as one of their own after that. Even though Julius was his father figure and main benefactor, the Belmonte’s also took care of him. They were like…an Aunt and Uncle of sorts. While Neva was more like a little sister.
But due to him being busy with his work, the last time he had seen Neva was when she was around 14 years old, when William had gotten his new apartment with his friend and co-worker Yami Sukehiro. He had invited Neva’s family to Clover so they could see his new living space and also spend some time together before the family went back to their hometown.
“ Shall we go? I’m sure you’re hungry and tired after the trip.” William asked, and Neva nodded.
The two began to quietly make their way out of the train station, steadily maneuvering through the sea of people. Until they finally made it outside, where they were slightly blinded by the bright afternoon sunlight.
William frowned, it was mid-morning when he arrived…he suddenly looked at his watch and gasped.
It was 11:30…and his shift at the Blackbird was supposed to start at 12!
“ Neva, I know you’re tired, and I’m sure you just want to go to the apartment and rest, but my shift at work is about to start. Is it alright if you come with me and hang out there for the afternoon? I’m only working part-time today, so I should be done by 6.” He told her, and the young girl nodded.
“ Yeah, that’s fine,” She agreed softly. “ Although you could just give me directions and I can walk to your apartment by myself…” She added as she began to follow him down the street towards the café.
She had a point, he could have done that, but he had strict instructions from her parents that he was not to let her go anywhere alone unless it was to his café or his apartment after school.
Why? Because Neva was in danger.
Currently, Neva believed she was being transferred because Clover Academy was better than the high school in Drysor and that going to Clover Academy would help her future. But in reality, she was being transferred due to threats being made against her. At first her parents had believed that maybe it was someone from her school playing pranks, but slowly the letters became more and more unhinged. Because of that, Idalia called William and begged him to take her in as his ward and keep her safe, hoping that maybe if Neva left the city she would be safer.
“ Please keep my Little Diamond safe.”
William sighed softly as Idalia’s words echoed in his head. How could he have said no to a mother's desperate plea? Honestly, even if she hadn’t asked him to take Neva in, he probably would have offered anyway.
Her safety and security was the most important thing.
“ What’s going on across the street?” Neva asked softly as her eyes drifted to her right. After being pulled out of his thoughts, William turned to his right as well.
Across the street, there were various boxes and furniture sitting in front of the empty store, along with what appeared to be vases and flowers. The sign above the store was covered with a big white sheet, and there appeared to be people moving around inside.
“ It looks like a new shop’s moving in across the street.” William muttered as he watched various young women walk out of the shop, pick up various items from the street and inside the box truck, before they happily walked back into the empty store.
“ What do you think it’ll be?” Neva asked, her soft voice holding a curious tone in it. He hummed from beside her.
“ I’m not sure. It could be a clothing store, or maybe an antique shop? We’ll only find out for sure once it opens.” He told her with a small smile before he patted her shoulder. “ We’re here. You go on inside, I have to go in through the back, so I can change into my uniform.”
“ Your uniform?” Neva asked with a frown, and he nodded.
“ Yes, unlike when I worked at your parent's bakery, I can’t just wear my normal clothes. We have to wear uniforms in order to keep with the café’s themes.” He explained before he turned and began to walk down the alley next to the café.
“ ‘Theme’? What kind of café is this?” Neva muttered as her gaze slowly drifted from the door to the sign above the door that read ‘The Blackbird Café’ in beautiful cursive with the image of a small blackbird.
Just what kind of place was it? Was it maybe one of those animal themed cafés where they had dogs, cats, and exotic animals?
She shook her head, there was only one way to find out, and that was by going inside.
As the platinum blonde haired woman walked inside, a young man with dark black hair, amber eyes, and a serious expression walked out of the alley way and onto the street.
———
Neva’s purple eyes widened as she stood inside the café. The design appeared to be European inspired. Men walked around wearing crisp suits, the furniture was made of varnished wood and held an assortment of fancy tea sets, table mats, and china. As her gaze drifted up the ceiling, she could see the main dining area was lit up by a beautiful glass work chandelier. She instantly looked down at her pair of jeans, sneakers, and light purple top. She felt completely under dressed.
“ Hello, and welcome to the Blackbird,” A voice said calmly from beside her, she quickly turned to the side and saw a much taller man in a crisp but slightly more casual suit. His dark hair was a bit messy, and he had a bit of a stubble mustache and beard, but he didn’t look unkempt or ‘too casual’. “ Is it just you, or will someone else be arriving later?”
“ Um, just me…” Neva said with a small frown as her eyes scanned the café in search of William.
“ Hey, you’re Johnathan’s kid sister, right? Uh…Nina isn’t it?” He asked, a confused frown appearing on his face.
“ It’s Neva…” She corrected, and the man quickly nodded and scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
“ Ah, that’s right, my bad. It was hard to understand Johnathan’s blubbering when he talked about you.” The man said with a small chuckle, and it was Neva’s turn to frown.
“ You keep mentioning ‘Johnathan’, but I don’t know anyone with that name.” She said with a confused tone, but he shook his head.
“ Yeah you do, it’s that guy right there,” He said as he jerked a thumb over his shoulder, Neva looked and saw William standing in the kitchen area talking to another man with shoulder-length silver hair. “ Here at the Blackbird we don’t use our real names, we go by alias’s instead as a safety precaution. You can call me Alexander, but I’m sure Johnathan will tell you my real name when you two leave.” He added as he crossed his arms.
“ Since it’s your first time at the café, I’ll take you to Johnathan’s section.” He told her as he stepped aside, extended his hand out towards the dining area, and bowed a bit.
“ This way, my lady,” He said, his tone and demeanor quickly switching from casual mode to work mode. “ I’ll guide you to your seat and ensure that no harm comes to you.” He added, and the woman blinked.
What…on earth was going on? This was strange to say the least. But for now she would go with it.
“ Um…thank you?” She said, her tone slightly hesitant, but she slowly began to walk towards the booth that ‘Alexander’ had pointed at. As they walked, he stayed close to her, but not so close that she felt uncomfortable. Whenever something got in her way or nearly bumped into her, ‘Alexander’ moved the object or blocked it.
What kind of café was this?
She slid inside the booth and muttered a soft ‘thank you’ as he handed her a menu, he told her that her ‘butler’ would be there shortly and she nodded. She looked at the menu and as she stared at the cover, her purple eyes narrowed at the small bit of text just underneath the café’s name.
‘Butler Café’.
Neva blinked a few times as she read that small bit of text over and over again, before she let out a quiet groan and rested her head against the table. Now it all made sense; the outfits, the ‘waiters’ demeanor, all of it!
“ Is something the matter, my lady? You sound troubled.” A voice said from beside her, and she slowly turned and raised her head slightly to see William, or ‘Johnathan’, standing there with a calm but slightly concerned look on his face.
“ It’s nothing. I’m just now realizing that this is a butler café, I’m such an idiot.” Neva groaned as she lowered her head onto the table again.
“ If I may, you are far from an idiot, my lady. You’re just tired from your long journey, that’s all.” He told her before a soft hum escaped him. “ Maybe a small poem will help my lady feel better?”
Neva raised her head completely and blinked.
“ A-A poem?” She asked in surprise, and ‘Johnathan’ nodded as a soft chuckle escaped him.
“ Yes. In order to shorten the wait for my mistresses and masters teas and meals, I try to provide them with a bit of entertainment.”
“So…it’s a gimmick?”
“ I wouldn’t call it a gimmick-.”
“ But it’s a gimmick.”
“ If that’s what my lady wants to call it, then we shall call it a gimmick.” ‘Johnathan’ said with a sigh and shake of his head. “ Would my lady like to hear one while she waits for her tea and meal?”
Neva hummed unsurely, whenever she heard poems or listened to poetry she was always reminded of a very…vexing person back in Drysor. He always liked to recite poetry while being as vague as possible about the meanings when speaking to people, and it irritated her. Why not just be direct and less…odd? Wouldn’t it be easier to just tell people what you wanted to tell them, instead of telling them through riddles and poems that they most likely won’t understand?
“ My lady? Are you alright?” ‘Johnathan’ asked, the worried look returning to his purple eyes again, and Neva nodded.
“ Y-Yeah, I’m alright,” Neva said quickly. “ And sure you can tell me a poem…although I have a feeling I’m going to regret this.” She muttered the last part under her breath, and ‘Johnathan’ nodded.
And regret it she did.
“ I built my hut in a zone of human habitation,
But near me there sounds no noise of horse or coach.
Would you know how that is possible?
A heart that is distant creates a wilderness round it.
I pluck chrysanthemums under the eastern hedge,
Then gaze long at the distant summer hills.
The mountain air is fresh at the dusk of day:
The flying birds two by two return.
In these things there lies a deep meaning;
Yet when we would express it, words suddenly fail us.”
As ‘Johnathan’ finished reciting his poem, he blinked in surprise as Neva cringed and covered her ears slightly. Was…the poem not good?
“ Please don’t do that again.” She groaned as she looked away, and he tilted his head as he saw her shoulders tremble slightly.
“ Was that poem unsatisfactory? Would you prefer a different one?” He asked, and he watched her quickly shake her head as her shoulders trembled more.
At first, William had thought that maybe she was crying, but as he looked at the reflection of her face in the window, he saw that wasn’t the case. Her cheeks were red, and her hand was over her mouth, it looked as though she were trying to stifle her laughter.
She was laughing at him…
He hummed a bit, maybe this was a better way to break the ice between them.
“ Since that poem wasn’t to your liking, might I tell you a different one?” He asked, amusement entering his voice and appearing on his face. Neva quickly shook her head as she turned to face him.
“ T-That’s okay-!” She tried to say, but he shook his head and began to recite another poem despite her protests.
“ Should we try to stop them?” ‘Alexander’ asked his boss, Nero, and she shook her head.
“ Just let them be for now. We aren’t busy and there aren’t many customers right now. So just let them be, if they get too rowdy, or we get a big lunch rush, then you’re allowed to step in.” Nero said as she looked at Neva cringing in the booth as William continued to recite poem after poem. Making everyone watching either laugh in amusement, or roll their eyes in annoyance.
Meanwhile, inside the ‘empty’ store across the street, an ash-blonde haired woman watched the two with a curious gaze through her shop window.
“ I wonder what’s going on over there.” She mumbled curiously, and the young black haired man with amber eyes came to stand beside her.
“ No idea.” He said bluntly, making the woman beside him chuckle.
“ Ooh, I see, since you’re no longer on the clock it isn’t your worry or concern?”
“ Exactly.”
“ Wow, that's kind of cold.” The woman giggled, and the young man sighed.
“ I guess. Can I leave now?” He asked as he turned away from the window, and the woman shook her head.
“ Nope! Your mom promised me that you would help me out here until 3, and that’s what you’re going to do!” The woman said with a bright grin, and the man sighed.
“ Isn’t that called exploiting a child for free labor?”
“ You call it ‘exploiting a child for free labor’, I call it a ‘friendly favor’!”
“ Unbelievable.”
“ Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to pay you in food!” The woman said with a giggle as she handed him another box. “ But first, you gotta earn it!”
—----
Later that evening, 6pm.
“ Thank you for the meal, and for letting me stay here until Johnathan’s shift is over.” Neva quietly told Nero as she stood at the counter and waited for William, the other lady nodded.
“ You’re welcome, anyone that’s a friend or family member of my butlers is welcome here, and judging by how many dessert plates you had today I think you’ll be coming here often.” She said with a ghost of a smile as she looked at the small plates being cleared from her table.
“ Ah…yeah, I think I might be.” Neva admitted with a sheepish chuckle, and she turned when she felt someone tap her shoulder.
“ Are you ready to go?” William asked as he stood there, and she quickly nodded. “ Goodnight Ms. Nero.”
“ Goodnight Johnathan, Neva. Be safe on your way home.” Nero said softly, her eyes not looking up from the pile of receipts in her hand.
The two nodded before leaving the café.
They quietly walked together down the street, the awkward tension that was there earlier between them seemed to have dissipated since they were now talking and laughing a bit more comfortably like they did years ago.
“ Isn’t your apartment this way?” Neva asked as she went to turn left but William kept walking straight.
“ It is, but we’re not going to my apartment,” William told her, and began to explain as she frowned. “ I live with someone, Yami, I mean Alexander, to be exact. I thought it might be uncomfortable for you to live with a stranger so I got us a different apartment.” Neva nodded slowly.
“ That makes sense. But you could have just stayed at your place and I could have gotten a dorm room at the academy-.” Neva began, but he shook his head quickly.
“ It’s alright I don’t mind. Besides, your parents insisted on you living with me, and frankly I insisted as well.” He told her, and her frown deepened.
“ Why?”
“ Because you’re in a new, and much bigger, city that can be quite dangerous. So it’s a way for us to keep you safe.”
“ You’re all way too overprotective.” Neva muttered with a small sigh and shake of her head, but she didn’t argue, and started walking straight ahead.
William sighed in relief. While it wasn’t a complete lie, it wasn’t fully the truth either.
“ Whatever happens, you cannot let Neva know about this. Please, William, it’s for her own protection!”
He quickly shook his head as Idalia’s words echoed in his head again. While he didn’t really agree with keeping this from Neva, he also didn’t want to tell her about it either…
There really was no good way to go about this.
“ Are you coming? I don’t know the way to the apartment and I need to get some sleep if I want to go to school tomorrow!” Neva shouted as she noticed that William wasn’t following her.
“ Ah right, sorry. I’m coming!” He shouted back as he began to walk quickly towards her.
For now he wasn’t going to worry about whether he should tell her the real reason she was here or not, instead he would focus on making sure Neva was safe, happy, and comfortable in Clover just like he promised her parents.

On "Sacred and Terrbile Air" by Robert Kurvitz
I just finished rading Kurvitz' "Sacred and Terrible Air" and I just want to give some thoughts on it.
Summary of the important point: Don't read it now. Wait for a better translation.
Four girls on summer vacation go missing without a trace. Three boys who befriended them make it their quest to find out about their fate. Twenty years later, whit the world on the brink of nuclear war, they meet again at a class reunion to finally figure out the mystery.
The book takes place in the same world as Disco Elysium, so people who played the game will be familiar with several concept like the Pale, the Innocents and the political structures of the Isolas. For everyone else, these things are well enough explained in the text itself, the glossary at the end is a bit superfluous - especially since there is no index to make you know about it being there at all. It's an e-book. I don't know about you, but I usually don't just flip through the pages of an e-book like I would do with a regular book.
Even though the translation seems rough (more on that below) the writing style is very good. It has several characteristics of Soviet-style sci-fi stories. However, I think Kurvitz took some of those characteristics to the extreme, especially with the ending. Sure, the ending is fits the overall plot and is not unlike something you'd read in a story by the Strugatsky brothers - but it still looks like there's a sequel missing.
However, the presentation of the plot is also modern to the extreme. It's told in a non-linear manner with constant leaps back in time - and even forward later in the story. This is very common in modern storytelling and definitely necessary to build up some tension. But... I think it was overdone here. Many of the chapters are very short, the point of view constantly changes. Sometimes rather unimportant scenes are held back for later for not apparent reason. I really think a bit more of consistency and longer scenes would have done the plot good. Often I felt like the author was holding information back from me just to rise the tension and then those facts turned out not to be important at all. There's a long story arch that turns out to be just a red herring for example.
The character presentation is rather good for the most part. The three men on their quest are nicely described, even though we only really learn about Khan's motivation. I wish they would be allowed to shine a bit more, I felt like they were given too little room to act.
The world Kurvitz creates is phantastic. Mysteries and stories are hinted on, political systems are created with just a few words. I would have loved to read more on that - but that is actually what you get from Disco Elysium instead. The game will teach you much more about the world than the book does.
The edition I read was the supposedly "better" translation, allegedly done by a professional translator. If that is true, I assume it was an Estonian native with English as his or her second language. That may work sometimes, but it's not the ideal way to do it.
English is not my first language either, but I read English books on a regular basis (just startet Peake's "Titus Groan" which was never translated into German). Well, I had a really hard time with "Sacred and Terrible Air". Many of the sentences just aren't right. It's very hard to make out who is talking in a dialogue. Sometimes one character referred to in an action when the context makes is clear that another one should actually be referred to. I also felt that there were many parts that were supposed to be humorous, but the joke is missing. That is why I would really recommend not reading this book at this point in time.
Unfortunately, the book is not "more Disco Elysium" as many people expect it to be. DE is probably much closer to Kruvitz' tabletop RPG sessions than it is to the book: Countless different characters, and abundance of facts about a weird world and clever dialogues. You don't get this in Sacred and Terrible air. It's a work on its own, and I felt that it had a vastly different tone.

reading the Qiu reunion while listening to a playlist with "Break my Heart Again" by FINNEAS was a risk I took and boy did it not pay off 🫠
I had barely recovered from hitting the bridge:
"So don't pretend that I'm the instigator You were the one, but you're born to say goodbye Kissed me half a decade later That same perfume, those same sad eyes"
as Qiu arrived to the party and then you hit me with
"You can see [them] wonder how much to ask for, and you find yourself wondering how much to give."
a few screens later and as cheesy as it sounds I genuinely needed to just stop and take a couple minutes to process the feelings it all brought up, especially as someone who lost a super important person in my life because I was a 'bad influence' (read: queer and helping her as she came to discover and accept she was as well despite an uber conservative christian upbringing).
And on that note if I could just ramble for a bit - Between Merry Crisis and CT:OS, I'm realizing that what I appreciate most about your writing is how real it feels. Like, in the niche of interactive fiction where most works are at least somewhat heightened, whether its the MC being a Chosen One, the setting being a heightened version of reality or outright fantasy, your writing is so grounded in reality that it almost feels biographical by comparison - and I mean that as a compliment I promise! It's just so real and relatable it feels almost nostalgic rather than escapist, which is something I think a *lot* of realistic fiction writers try to do, but so few can actually pull off in a way that feels genuine like yours do. Where most IF's leave me imagining what my MC's and their supporting casts would be up to after the final scene, yours always seem to leave me reflecting on my own past with how relatable your characters' experiences are.
Anyway idk if that actually makes any sense but thank you so much for the incredible update and I cannot wait for more <3
I am so AMAZED by the idea of you listening to that song while playing the update! Those lines are absolutely PERFECTLY IN SYNC. Crazy. I can only imagine how awesome that experience must've been!
Please keep telling me all the songs that you guys listen to as accompaniment to Merry Crisis, because it's so INTERESTING to know you guys' soundscapes/soundtracks to the game.
I'm sorry you had that experience of losing that really important person to you, and yes, it sounds a lot like what happened between Qiu and MC. It's so tough to be ditched by someone with an ultra conservative upbringing, but it also sucks to have gone through that kind of upbringing. If you're reading this and you belong to either of your groups, you have my love!!
And finally, thank you so much for your praise regarding Merry Crisis and CT:OS! It's really cool that you think they're both relatable and thought-provoking. I love that the IFs make you reflect on your own experiences. I do hope to reach a point in the writing that sparks readers to imagine what MC and the cast of characters get up to together off-screen as well though! :D
Sending you so many hugs.

JJK 222: Interesting plot developments, underwhelming emotional ones
My initial reaction to this chapter was just pure disappointment, but that was admittedly after hearing about just the leaks. The actual chapter was more of a mixed bag.
With the time skip, I was expecting a...well, a time skip. JJK has never really had a lot of non–plot pivotal content, but it's one single month before what's presumably some of the major and most important fights in the series. I thought we'd see something like the scenes before the Goodwill Event, at least.
But the actual chapter seems like more of a transition sequence. It's hinted at a lot of pretty interesting plot developments: Ijichi's mission, Ino's information about Nanami, whatever the fuck is going on with Yuuji. And they'll presumably be fleshed out in between or during fights, as Gege is wont to do. I honestly can't wait for that, especially the Yuuji thing.
Tumblr media
What in the fresh fuck is this now?
I'm also extremely amused by the whole Sukuna and Uraume scene, and I was half expecting Uraume to start feeding him the fingers like grapes. The vibes are immaculate. The theory about the final finger is also interesting, and in line with how Gojou has generally acted as if Yuuji will be there in jujutsu society's future for a while, but it does leave the question of whether the lone finger will play a part in the story. Sukuna sure doesn't seem to need it. I don't know what the protagonists would do with it either, but we do have Mr. I'll Eat Anything on that side.
Kenjaku was a delight as always, and I do like how they're very realistic about what they're capable of—and what Gojou's capable of. They clearly have a lot of pride in their abilities (and plans), but not to the point they'd risk it all for an unwinnable battle. And their musings on death and the human condition do kind of make me want to see what, exactly, would be the ultimate culmination of their plans. With the kind of manga JJK is, we might even see it. I'm still holding out hope for eventual Kenjaku–Yuuji interactions though.
My main issue was with the emotional side of things. I wasn't expecting, nor do I want, full-on melodrama, but for Gojou's reunion with the others to...not even be a reunion feels like a joke. I felt a lesser extent of the same when we had Maki and Yuuji back with the other students without ever seeing them actually discuss what Sukuna has done to Megumi, but even that was still better than what we got with Gojou.
It pretty much feels like the characters are being pulled along by the plot than driving the plot. And I like what was done in the Culling Games, which also focused extensively on fight after fight, with regard to characterization and interpersonal interactions enough that I'm still hoping some of the rather underwhelming aspects of all this will be rectified in the upcoming chapters. But I still think a breather chapter with a bit of actual air could've done us all—the characters and readers both—some good.
To end on a brighter note:

Taking Her Home
Back in the chaos of 2020 during the early days of the lockdown and while I desperately tried to get a therapists to endorse my HRT, I had began writing a visual novel in Ren'Py. Back then I was part of a game studio and had worked upon a number of projects for them. Writing, coding, music and photography.
My desire was to channel the skills that were being polished into a personal little side-project that I had named Taking Her Home.
The story was about essentially a reunion between a child and their estranged father who kicked them out of their family home when they were a teenager. The child has since transitioned and is seeking to gain some form of emotional closure from the encounter.
As written, it had been framed as Sabrina, the protagonist, disguising herself as Danny, her deadname, and interacting as Danny until the final day where she has a choice to reveal herself.
I ended up scrapping the project after starting HRT and allowing my experiences openly living as a woman to shape and change me. Regretfully I came to view the project with discomfort, feeling how unthinkable it would be to pretend to be who I once was for the sake of placating an abuser. Plus I had cut ties with my biofam since starting the project.
Thusly it was scrapped within a year of starting. 40k words, 5 original songs and a fairly competent game mechanic. All down the drain.
Alas
Though I am unlikely to finish it, I have come to appreciate the project in new light recently. Within the past year I was diagnosed with DID. I have a system of 5, though to those who follow me and know me on Tumblr, only 3 of them present openly to the world.
One of the hidden pair is The Kid. Our deadname. Our father's son.
In some way, I feel the writing of this script was an attempt for the emerging female parts who had been repressed to make peace with this male part that was being put away. In that light... well, it seems worth at least examining what we had written, don't you agree?
---
Note all screenshots are temporary assets, especially the GIU. They would have been replaced if the game were finished. Some GIU elements are from games I worked on previously and are used without permission of the studio I used to be part of. They would have been replaced before the game was released.
The game starts with a flashback. There's no art of it, but the notes depict a teenage Danny being kicked out by his father with a single cardboard box of possessions.
In the present, Danny and Sabrina are in an airport preparing to fly to England. Their sister, Liz, has died and they had received the news via unexpected contact from their father who they had not seen since they were kicked out all 15 years ago. The father, Rodney, wishes for Danny to come to the funeral and visit him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As this scene plays out we hear the first track, Homecoming
As they psyche themselves up for the trip, Danny and Sabrina begin to discuss their childhood and we are given a stealthy character creation segment.
The character creation segment gives some flavor text to Danny/Sabrina's upbringing. We learn the name of their step-mother and the fact that their parents divorced, that they have a biological older brother who lives with their mother and a half-sister, the now dead Liz.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But as you answer these questions about their childhood the game places a score to your options that lets you pick from 3 variations of who Sabrina grew up to be.
In the code I label them as Fashion Brie, Geeky Brie and Active Brie. One was interested in theatre, learned make-up and starred in many stage performances. Geeky Brie was into anime and manga, did cosplay and Active Brie was into sports and had a lot in common with Rodney.
Then throughout the game there will be comments and baggage related to that backstory. For instance Rodney would have destroyed Geeky Brie's Sailor Moon manga brought in by a friend from France, Fashion Brie would be livid that her father never once attended one of her shows.
The other reason for character creation is to start the stat system.
Tumblr media
During the course of the week Danny/Sabrina will talk with Rodney and get a feel for how much he has changed, if at all, and each interaction gives the opportunity for the stats to increase or decrease.
Frustration - How angry your character is with Rodney. At high levels this will unlock an option for the "burn all bridges" ending.
Confidence - Required to unlock burn all bridges, allows you to interject and stand up for yourself more.
Understanding - Required for the "come out" option, where you can see who Rodney is and why he is the way he is. Can play along with frustration too, if you are frustrated and understand Rodney then you'll "know" he is incapable of change.
Empathy - Connection between parent and child required for the "come out" ending. Grown when you make sincere connections.
Once they arrive in England Sabrina and Danny are picked up by Becky, the friend who housed them after they were kicked out.
Tumblr media
Becky fills in some of the blanks on Sabrina's time when she lived in London prior to moving to the USA. Becky was present during Danny's transition.
As they talk the song Girl From London plays.
During this segment we get to see who Sabrina is in the present. The intro was focused in on the childhood and Danny and Brie's relationship with Rodney. This segment is to show that they turned out alright, even if they are willingly going back to confront a past that should be left to rest.
Day 2 is the first day with Rodney.
Becky drops you off and in if you need her to pick you up you'll need to send a "signal flare" text message which will take a while to be responded to.
On the drive Becky prepares you to talk to Rodney by introducing the "Call Out" function, where you have the option of stopping Rodney's dialogue and interrogate his dialogue for bigoted or untrue remarks (akin to the Hold It! function in Ace Attorney).
She'll also ask what you are looking to get out of the trip, an answer which will impact your stats.
Tumblr media
As Becky speaks Questioning plays.
The "gameplay" then begins as your character, presenting as Danny, arrives at the house and begins to reconnect with their father.
Tumblr media
While "Here With You" plays.
As Rodney and Danny talk, Rodney makes a number of reaching assumptions about Danny's life which show a level of projection, for instance he assumes Danny must spend every Christmas alone in America because he has "no family" there with him.
Tumblr media
and you are given chances to ask or tell him to not use bigoted language. No matter which playstyle you use he will ignore this, though may apologize more often if told off.
For the Call Out function my favorite was always this subtle one, very much based on interactions with my IRL father.
Tumblr media
"you left for London" he says. If you correct him you respond.
Tumblr media
The conversation has ups and downs and you can be prompted to ask about your step-mum and why he's alone now, how his relationship is with your brother, if he still works at the local pub and a number of other bonding questions that can breed empathy, understanding, frustration or confidence.
Towards the middle of the day you can either tour the house or go for a walk. There are some stat bonuses for doing both.
In your childhood bedroom there are a number of options for searching for items from your past and a mechanic which either lets Rodney be in the room with you as you search (he will comment on items and give context as to why they are stored and such) or have you kick him out for either privacy or because he insists on smoking.
I had intended to polish this segment if I finished the game so that some items would only be available with or without Rodney's presence.
There's also a secret scene in the bedroom hunt which can end the game right here and then by having Rodney explode and begin to argue with Danny right there and then on the first day. In this ending you storm out of the house and skip the funeral entirely, opting to stay in London with Becky instead.
Tumblr media
I wanted to make all of the endings valid, but since my diagnosis, the idea of "never think of the name Danny or Rodney Smith" kind of hurts, the idea of a viable ending being to bury poor Danny entirely? That ending came from a dark place, it seems.
Also the bench concept will come up later...
If you succeed through the day you can either leave early or stay for a meal. If you do, Rodney will note that Danny had mentioned wanting to introduce him to someone and wanted to know who it was. No matter how you approach this situation Rodney will think his son is hiding homosexuality.
Tumblr media
Your reaction here will read how well your empathy and frustration points have been stacking up. The script sometimes doing a check for those values rather than asking you outright.
Tumblr media
These options are unlocked based on your interactions, the below is checked to see what you are allowed to say at that point.
Tumblr media
Obviously these are thought, not spoken.
The day ends when Becky arrives to pick you up. You have a debrief which is a stealthy way of seeing if you passed or failed the checks for the stats leading towards unlocking each of the endings.
Day 3 was the funeral and is a segment I never ended up writing. It was going to be more flavor text for Danny's childhood, his relationship with his other birth family and give some connection he had to Liz which brings about the unspoken truth that Sabrina is very much built from his perception of his older sister.
Day 4 is the second visit to Rodney and would take place on neutral ground with distinct paths. Pub, Canal Walk and Cafe are options.
I'd not finished writing this segment, but I had written the conclusion of Day 4.
It ends with an argument that causes Danny to burst out and retreat to The Bench.
The Bench is a park bench much like many others. Every time Danny and Rodney had an argument and Danny stormed out he would go to this spot. Sometimes people found him and had deep conversations on that spot with him.
There's a bench on the South Bank of the River Thames that fills that role in our own life. We think of it and the view it grants often.
The scene begins with a flashback of a time Liz is the one to collect 15 year old Danny and have a conversation comforting him after one of his dad's angry outbursts. As the flashback ends Liz is replaced with Sabrina and then as the scene continues the 15 year old Danny is replaced with the 32 year old one.
Tumblr media
As they talk, Sabrina and Danny discuss their feelings on Rodney. At this point you are given stat checks to see if you can unlock options for the ending. Danny will advocate for the love he has for his father and Sabrina for the hatred she has for Rodney.
Tumblr media
As the conversation goes on, Danny begins to yield to Sabrina and by the end Sabrina is the only one with spoken dialogue and Danny is only appearing as thoughts and choice screen prompts, much the same as Sabrina was during the first portion of the game.
Tumblr media
I again note I wrote this 2/3 years before my DID diagnosis. In the dev notes I even state that Danny is the "kid inside, the one who sits behind every action you make judging you and wishing you were more" with no concept that it may not be a universal experience.
The final day is essentially select your ending.
I believe the ones I had written before abandoning the project were:
"I don't have a plan. I'm just going to go and see what happens." - You go in without a plan presenting as Sabrina. You cannot explain this in any way that satisfies and end up arguing. It is a break but an unclean one. You think back on it and wonder "what if" often.
"I'm going to burn all the bridges once and for all." - You end things on your terms, head held high. You understand he has no power over you and never did.
Tumblr media
"I'm going to call him." - You call to say goodbye, you do not come out as Sabrina to him. You thank him for the week and return to America, satisfied that you got to say goodbye and knowing you do not owe him access or context.
"We're going to meet somewhere on my terms. We'll talk this out. Make it work." - You meet in London and run the conversation, dispel his every fear about your gender and sexuality. He finally gets to see the grown woman you have become and though you are not certain if he accepts or rejects you, he jokes about burying two children in one week after all, you can go back to the USA knowing he *acknowledges* you. Maybe that's enough?
"I'm not going back" - You do not show up to the scheduled Day 5 meeting and stay with Becky instead. You return to America and ignore the growing pile of emails from Rodney, leaving things unresolved but breaking all connection.
"I just want to say goodbye." - Essentially the "call him" ending but with coming out. You do not argue. You tell him your name is Sabrina, that you're going back to America and not to contact anymore. It's benign. You wonder how he is handling the news and realize you don't care.
-
And that's the game.
I just felt like putting something of it out into the world. It was a deeply personal project at an integral time of my life when I was on the intersection between past and present, slowly learning just who was hiding under the masks and lies I told myself.
Maybe one day, if the kid ever wants to come back, I'll let him finish this. For himself. For the love he still has for our father and for the game studio that we are no longer part of.
But for now I feel it's a draft that shall forever remain unfinished. And that's okay. It did what it needed to.
Thanks for giving me a platform to just air it out in a form that isn't just a lingering piece of ignored potential.

Note
Soooooo if Zack and Seph were friends in Crisis Core, why did Seph turn on him at all? It seemed kind of abrupt imo
Lots of CC feels abrupt, much as I adore the game. I don't blame the writers, as the game itself takes place in Zack's perspective and has to juggle his relationships with LOTS of different characters in a way that gives the player just enough time to get a feel for each dynamic. It essentially has to squeeze a lot in one sitting with limited time for a smaller-scale game. Hopeully, Reunion might space things out and add a bit more details.
As for your question... (WARNING: LONG lol)
This is all my personal headcanon, mind you, as I've established in previous fics and writing.
Barring the theory that Sephiroth is being manipulated and swayed by Jenova (which I definitely adhere to, at least in the case of Nibelheim), I believe that, after Genesis' betrayal, Sephiroth completely disregarded all of his feelings towards any lingering relationships.
You have to understand that, around the time of the Nibelheim Incident, Sephiroth had been essentially betrayed three different times. First with Genesis, then with Angeal, and then with Lazard (who I don't think was his FRIEND per se but they definitely seemed to have a friendly/respectful working relationship). He's sleep deprived, exhausted, was already feeling ready to abandon his job and titles, and just had his best friend essentially spit in his face, call him a monster, tell him that he's a lab experiment, and then ask for a one-sided favor. He's not in good shape at all, especially after he finds out the truth about his origins (AND also figures out Gast was involved which seems to distress him).
Sephiroth's life, in more ways than one, is a story about abandonment. First Lucrecia. Then Gast--who could have very well been a father figure based on how reverently Seph speaks about him. Then his two best friends. His boss. Everyone and everything he ever cared about. All gone. And the ones who come back only come to hurt him.
Which brings us to Zack.
Throughout CC, in the scenes in which they are together, Zack is friendly, but also assertive around Sephiroth. He's respectful towards him and has a lot of his usual positivity and energy, but he also isn't afraid to call him out either. And Sephiroth, as Nomura said in a recent interview, greatly appreciates that. I think it's why he's very patient and kind towards Zack overall. He might view him as a piece of Angeal, with Genesis' ambition mixed in. A piece of his vanished friends, someone who treats him like a human being.
So why the betrayal?
Because Genesis and Angeal were his only real loved ones. People he trusted, people who he was growing sicker and sicker worrying about, people who he was ready to leave Shinra for. He refused to fight them, gave them time to escape, never spoke ill against their transformations, and never stopped believing in them. Even after the death of Angeal, Sephiroth still had no ill feelings towards Genesis. Not until Genesis directly hurt him at the reactor. But by then, it was one blow too many.
In the end, Sephiroth lets go of Zack. Just another human connection. Just another traitor. And if not now, then surely later. Another backstab. Another bit of grief to add to his growing collection over the span of two years. If he can finally be with Mother, and finally reclaim his birthright, what use are humans? Why would he ever trust someone he knows will betray him and leave him like Genesis and Angeal? Why should he bother at all when all humans have ever done is manipulate and hurt him? Zack is probably manipulating him too! Zack was probably IN on it! Zack probably planned everything from the beginning! Just like Shinra did. Just like ALL humans did! Humans conspired against him, experimented on him! Zack HAS to be in on the experiment too! All humans are!
On and on. I explored this mindset at the tail end at AMT but basically, Sephiroth's mind is gone by the time he goes on his bender in the library. And by the time Zack comes to find him, there's nothing left of himself. He's completely lost it and there's no going back.
Do I think Zack could have saved him? Maybe. If given the right timing and the right words. And if they'd gotten out of Nibelheim and away from Jenova. I think she probably intensifies a lot of his emotions after "awakening" the cells within him and so there's no telling how easily Zack could persuade him if she's got her claws in. One thing I do think is that Zack did care about Sephiroth and never wanted this to happen. I think there was a Dissidia game where Zack confronts Sephiroth and is STILL distraught about what Sephiroth has become. I don't think he hated Sephiroth, even after what he did. He was willing to take Seph out and put an end to it, but I think he mostly just wanted to end the madness. He said himself that Sephiroth is no longer the Sephiroth he once knew.
So yeah. Drama, ugly emotions, a LOT of paranoia, and trust/abandonment issues basically ended what could have very well been a meaningful friendship. I'd like to think Seph would have found a new friend circle through Zack and Cloud and could have healed in time, had they gotten out before the crazy shit went down. It's a small tragedy that I wish more people thought about when it comes to Crisis Core.
In the end, Sephiroth felt he had no one left but Mother. And thus, nothing left to lose.

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Round 3, Side A, Match 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda under the cut!
Tasutsumu:
Submission 1:
(exploding) sorry if this is badly written i am walking rn . Mods know the series but A3 is about stage actors.
TasuTsumu are literally the friends to lovers ever. They're childhood friends, even. They did everything together. They've acted together since elementary school. but then (VINE BOOM) thry both try out for a prestigious acting troupe called GODza... but only Tasuku makes it in (sad horn sounds) Tsumugi lost a ton of confidence after not making it and kinda ghosted Tasuku and ran away from his problems </3 he originally had given up, but missed the stage so he tried out again at the Mankai Company (troupe all of the characters are in). In the process, while performing their play in an act off (if they end up in the competition ill actually essay about it) Tsumugi feels that his acting is inferior once again and totally bombs a show.
Makoharu:
They are the first ship that comes to mind when I think of friends to lovers. I know Free! hasn't been popular since 2013, bug I just love them so much... Makoto's devotion to Haru. There's even a movie that flashes back to when they're kids when Makoto says "I love swimming and I love Haruka". Soft...

Note
Hello! Due to timezone differences, I'm asking you this today:
For the random character ask game, I would like to ask you about your dear old Eliah Hendricks. Numbers 9, 14, 37 and throw in one you want to answer from the list. Pretty please 🙏
Thank you <3
YESSS, MY LEFT-HAND MAN. MY WICKED RABBIT 🫶
9. Scene that first made me love (or hate) the character
The reunion scene at the crypt, but especially the moment where he stops whaling on Fetch and just screams “FUCK!” because he’s so hurt and angry. I’d enjoyed his character up until then but seeing that first bit of raw emotion under the smooth-talking facade got me properly invested. Also him looking at Fetch “like a stillborn puppy.” Oof.
14. Most heroic moment
Allowing Fetch to shoot him, as facetious as that sounds. I’m sure he did a lot of amazing stuff prior to the Coda, but because of his personality, most of it would have come from a place of vanity - wanting to be seen as a hero. I think in his final moments he goes through something of an ego death; he realises that he’s no longer a force for good in the world and needs to hand over the reins to somebody else. Which is pretty heroic imo.
37. What they really think about themselves
Oh he’s RIDDLED with self-doubt, which is why he surrounds himself with pretty young things like Fetch who are incapable of recognising his flaws. (I don’t include Amari in this. I think she’d stuck around long enough to see Hendricks at his worst, which he both hates and loves her for).
48. Scariest moment of their life
The twenty-or-so seconds before the Coda hit him. Rather than happen in an instant, I headcanon that it spread out like an atomic blast, with Agotsu being the epicentre. He saw/heard/felt it coming down the mountain before he even knew what it was. And he was shitting bricks, son!!!!
