I had an epiphany.

In “My Goodbye” from Epic - The Musical, Athena is referencing past heroes who she too abandoned, whether that was Jorge’s intention or not.

“This day, you sever your own head”

Perseus, who had slain Medusa

“This day, you cut the line”

Bellerophon, who was crippled/who died when he fell from the back of Pegasus, due to the crossing of the line of Olympus’s high heavens and the earth he wished to impress

“This day, you lost it all”

Jason, who’s wife, Medea, murdered his new wife, the woman’s father, and her very own children, and then he was forgotten

Consider this as my goodbye! This came to me in a dawning realization.

Okay so I was watching @anniflamma's God Games animatic (the Hera one) for probably the 100th time, and I paused at one point for whatever reason, and I noticed a little detail.

This is when Athena says "Never once has he cheated on his wife", and I see the cocky expression on her face, like she knows that she won with that... BUT if you look at her hand, you can see she's like... Squeezing her upper arm a little?

Now I know basically nothing about art or how you portray stuff so excuse me if I'm wrong somewhere, but I think this might be like... Athena being a little nervous or something? Maybe? I'm not sure, but I really wanted to share this little... discovery.

Things I would really really like in the coming sagas.

-Just a Man being used as a plea rather than a fact. Like Odysseus is desperately trying to convince Penelope that he's not a threat.

-When pushed to the point of mutiny, Eurylocus desperately shouts, "All I hear are screams!"

-Penelope protecting her child and her kingdom like a boss.

-Odysseus's Dad the goat herder.

-Athena and Odysseus reconciling a little for the sale of Telemachus and all that they've learned. Not back to how they were, but not at where they are now.

-After Odysseus kills Eurylocus, he looks at the body of his brother and the blood on his hands, sings "what if I'm the monster" but there's a 180 in terms of tone because he's heartbroken.

Very messy sketches of our fav goddess of wisdom!

I tried to incorporate her owl and olive tree symbolism, plus I thought it be cool if her robes invoked wing imagery and if her hair was a byproduct of her helmet!

Plus I wanted her to have very strong features, so large nose and square jaw were my go to 😌

// Basically it's a musical created by a guy named Jorge Rivera-Herrans, and it's based on the story of the Odyssey. Essentially, the main character in the musical, Odysseus is trying to get back home to Ithaca, his kingdom, after the battle in Troy, and he has to avoid monsters and avoid angering gods, etc.

// It's got forty songs altogether, spread out along 9 sagas. Currently, only four sagas have been released, with thirteen songs altogether so far, but the next saga releases on the 26th.

i'm one of the people who heard "you lied to me" instead of "enlighten me" and here's why i like this lyric:

1. it makes Athena sound kinda bitter that she fell for such a simple trick (maybe she did roll a nat 1 on insight)

2. being good at lying is a quality she's looking for in her potential student (and successfully lying to Athena is a feat (even though she rolled nat 1 here))

Just realized! Odysseus is becoming exactly who the gods wanted him to be!

First we see Zeus making him kill a baby and saying that if he doesn't do it he'll personally make sure the kid grows up to kill Odysseus and his people and his family. He wants him to be brutal.

Athena keeps trying to get him to care less about individuals and more about the big picture. She thinks he's too soft and too kind. She wants him to be a general. Unaffected by death.

Poseidon gave him a whole lecture about why he should be ruthless.

Hermes keeps asking if he wants a taste of the power, to know what's going to happen for sure, for the means and the will to do what he has to do.

And now he's all of those things and at least one of the above is going to regret their part in it.
