Hal and Barry have been dating for a while and both of them have been hunting about getting married. They've been talking about where they'd theoretically have the ceremony, where they'd take a honeymoon, who would be their best men, etc. the only thing they haven't done is actually asked the question.
And that's what Hal is pondering as he's doing a really BORING mission for the Lanterns. But if he wants to propose, he needs a ring and there in lies the problem. Rings are expensive and he is broke as fuck because being an intergalactic space cop somehow doesn't have a salary. And while he's thinking this, he stumbles onto some pretty red and green rocks and has a light bulb moment. He doesn't need to buy a ring, he can make a ring! Here are all these pretty rocks just laying around on this dead planet!
So he takes some rocks, a big ish chunk of iron from a nearby comet, brings them back to earth and gets to work. His lantern ring can do anything needed to make Barry the perfect ring and that's what he's going to do. He puts a ton of thought into it, because Barry works with his hands a lot at work and often has to wear gloves that prevent him from wearing jewelry, he makes it specifically so that the ring will still be pretty if he pins it to his shirt or wears in on a chain. The centerpiece is a big, pretty green rock with lots of red in it that he manages to polish into looking shiny, and it's surrounded by little pieces of sea glass that's red and green too. He gets the iron purified and into a perfectly sized ring for Barry's finger and polished that to a shine too. The most expensive thing about the ring is the dollar store box it came in because he didn't technically have to pay for materials or labour.
So he proposed, Barry said yes, they have their wedding, they both say "I do", Hal steps on the glass, and they honeymoon in Italy. It's beautiful, they're madly in love, everything is going perfectly.
Until Kilowag shows up and is like "Hal, the Guardians want you. You've broken intergalactic law."
And it turns out that the law Hal broke was bringing the rocks back to earth. The Guardians have a rule against that so that rocks that a valuable on one planet can't be brought from another planet and tank the economy. And Barry is wearing the evidence.
So now Hal and Barry, because if his idiot husband is appearing before space court, he's coming along. Their vows said through thick and thin, he just hadn't expected it to happen so soon. And if course, John Stewart, Guy Gardener, and Alan Scot tag along. One for support and two because this is the funniest fucking thing to happen all decade. And then the Justice League finds out about it and they have to go too. One for support and two because this is the funniest fucking thing ever.
The entirety of the case, Bruce is sitting beside Barry whispering to him "it's not to late to leave. We can get out of here right now. I have amazing lawyers, we can get you an annulment and it'll be like this never happened" because he's a supportive friend and also (perhaps even more importantly) he does not like Hal.
But Barry's like "we definitely don't qualify for annulment and I don't think any lawyer is going to believe us if we tell them this"
Hal and Guy are arguing that Hal didn't take the rocks to profit off of them, he took them to make them into a gift. John is talking about earth traditions of giving pretty things to your partner to try and make it seem like this was a weird instinctual thing Hal did by accident to get an insanity plea.
Alan is arguing to give Hal the death penalty.
And then one of the Guardians says that Hal intended to profit off the Bloodstones he took by selling the ring when Bruce freezes and then slaps himself. Hard.
"Bloodstones are pretty much worthless on earth" he says.
And then the Guardians freeze because they've been basing their whole argument on Hal somehow profiting of the pretty rocks he found on a dead planet, only to find out that he basically took beer caps.
So now they have to find out how much the ring is worth, to see if they even have a case. And it turns out they do not.
And it turns out that the entirety of the ring is worth MAYBE, generously, $30. Maybe, if the appraiser is blind. Or new. Because Bloodstone is cheap. Iron is in no demand on Earth. And there are no valuable gems in the ring. Hal didn't even use his ring to know for certain what rocks he picked up off the ground, he literally just thought they were pretty and that Barry would like them because Barry is a nerd who likes space rocks. The only value the ring has is its appearance.
And now basically the entirety of their honeymoon has been spent keeping Hal's dumb ass out of space jail over a pretty ring that, while resilient and made with love, isn't worth anything. So now the Guardians feels dumb and everyone else is asking "how the hell did you even know Hal took the rocks?"
And it turns out the Eobard found out and told Sinestro, who got it back to the Guardians. It's the dumbest thing ever.
They get back and the other lanterns basically look at Hal and ask "so despite all the research you did on how to make the ring, you never stopped to consider the laws of the universe?"
Hal never gets to live it down and it's why Barry gets to put a finger down for "Never Have I Ever Seriously Considered Killing my Beloved Husband After Less Than A Week Of Being Married"

For the headcanons game, perhaps an AU where when Eobard goes to kidnap Eddie in s1, Barry gets to that bridge just a teeny bit quicker and saves Eddie (by Eobard kidnapping him instead)
YES. WHUMP. This is absolutely not something I really really hoped would happen when first watching the episode at the ripe age of 9. Nope. I was a completely normal child.
Ah. Remember when Eobard took a blood sample from Farooq, saying he’d love to know how he was able to steal the Flash’s speed. And that plotline went nowhere? Whelp, that would not be the case in this universe. Because of this, Eo wouldn’t need to keep Barry in Star labs which —alongside simply not having a speedster to search— will make rescue a lot more difficult. He also knows what he's doing, knows how to hack and deactivate all the trackers and tech in Barry's suit to ensure he won't be found.
This situation forces Eddie or Joe to tell Iris Barry’s the Flash (hell, Eddie may just yell “Barry!” When he’s taken and that gives it away) and she's going to be pissed. Like canon, they don't/can't report Barry as missing, and with him out of commission; Thawne doesn’t need to send Grodd, which means they can just focus on finding him. It would be even more tense for everyone because Wells/Thawne taking Barry actually makes sense which is somehow scarier than the alternative of the kidnapping being random. They’re just hoping they can find Barry before a man who hates him enough to kill his mom when he was 11— kills him too.
Meanwhile, Barry is not doing great because Thawne isn’t particularly worried about meeting his food calorie needs; just making sure he doesn’t die of starvation. Plus, Thawne isn’t keen on giving him information about, well, anything. “Why the hell am I here?" "What’s happening with my friends?" "What are you working on over there, I can’t turn my head enough to see it—" etc. These questions, of course came after empty threats, a lot of shouting, and probably the threat of a gag if he wasn’t quieter. The cherry on top, Thawne was acting weird towards him, lingering a little too close for a little too long. Rescue really couldn't come sooner.
Eobard figured out a way to replicate Farooq's powers to not just deprive Barry of his speed-- but transfer it to himself so he can run home. Luckily for him, Barry's compliance isn't needed, unluckily for him; it will take a few days to a week for Barry to be completely drained. Luckily for Barry, that gives his friends time to find him, unluckily for him... the process is extremely exhausting and painful.
Cisco doesn't even realize what was happening, just that one second, his hand was on the mannequin where Barry's suit would normally sit, and the next second-- the world had gone blue and Barry was there in front of him; tied to a chair with his eyes squinted shut and watering. He wouldn't normally trust whatever that was, but with no other leads and days flying past far too quickly; he decides to tell the team what he saw.
Two possible timelines: 1. Cisco is able to hone his powers enough to get Barry's location and they arrive just in time... or 2. just too late.

this is super random and i know you’re more of a Tom Eobard but have you seen the Doom World episode in Legends of Tomorrow? i'm obsessed with it and the whole concept and i always wondered what it would have been like with Barry in there. might you have any thoughts on Eobard rewriting a reality where Barry's not dead, he's his... however you want to picture that. or if you don't, it's okay :)
I actually haven't seen that episode (I've missed out on a lot of Legends episodes lol) but I'm now obsessed with this concept and if Eobard hasn't already tried to make Barry his (lover, slave, pet, child like he threatened that one time, you name it) in at least one timeline I'll eat my hat
Eobard would have to start very early, that much I'm sure of, molding Barry's life circumstances to lead him directly to Eobard, breaking him down mentally and emotionally so he's more amenable, getting rid of the positive influences in Barry's life and ensuring he's isolated - then it's just a matter of what does Eobard want from Barry; does he want to own him like a trophy or to form some sort of twisted relationship with him? I think it depends on the day, personally, but I'm inclined to think it leans more towards the latter as technically Barry wouldn't need to be alive to be Eo's trophy (although that is another interesting concept to explore later)
either way, Eobard would ease in to the relationship initially, offering Barry friendship, a confidante, maybe a mentor like with Dr. Wells (this concept would work very well with EoWells and that I definitely would like to write sometime lol) and slowly over time Eo would gain more and more control over Barry - not by force, though, I feel like he'd prefer it if Barry granted him the control himself, or at least most of it; sure he likes a good fight but this is his Barry, not the usual Barry after all - and without a support group, I think Barry would give him that control willingly if he asked; after all he trusts Eobard

I am already intrigued by Hartley/Barry/Cisco with the same shitty ex (Eobard) mention
So I'll have to take my time to workshop this some, but the event isn't until July 14th so I've got plenty of time to shine this idea up. But.
AU-land here, where Professor Thawne works at CCU. Or did. He's being fired after a grad student - Barry - came forward to admit that he'd been taken advantage of by the Professor and now lots of current and former students are coming out of woodwork because Thawne threatened their grades if they didn't sleep with them or etcetera.
There'd be some establishing flashbacks as they all had very different experiences with Eobard. He wooed Hartley then stole his research and ruined Hartley's relationship with his parents by outing him to them. While he was in the screwing Hartley over stage of things, he took up with Cisco who was able to get out of the relationship before things went sour and was only really aware in retrospect that it was a very toxic and power imbalanced relationship for him and that Eobard probably pitted him against Hartley deliberately so as to prevent them from realizing how he was using them. Barry was not directly one of Eobard's students but quickly realized he was being used for a.) his research and b.) as revenge on his parents for his mom snubbing Eobard when they were much younger... well...
So they all meet on campus, Barry's worried that this could affect the PhD he's about to finish up, Hartley and Cisco are reluctantly apologizing to each other and admitting they've got more in common with each other than they realized... and both vowing to make sure that Barry gets his degree since he was the first one out of so many who was brave enough to speak out about what was going on. And the three of them wind up at the campus coffee house just talking until a ridiculous hour of the morning when one of them jokes about this being what a nice first date really ought to be like. And...
They're like... why not? Why not have this be their first date? Why not go on more dates, to see if they work as a trio.
Fast forward to Eobard catching sight of them a year later and realizing they're on a date. His three most hated exes. And they're just kind of like 'ah, thanks, if you hadn't been a shitty, toxic influence on our lives then we never would have found such a healthy relationship with each other afterwards.'
Eobard - *life ruined, steaming with rage, blaming these three in particular for rallying the rest and Barry especially for being the first domino*
Hartley/Barry/Cisco - *too busy being happy together to give Eobard the time of day*
Admittedly, there's room for a canon AU in there too as an alternative take on the prompt. But I feel like a non-canon AU gives more breathing space for having Eobard date and break up with all three of them separately before they all meet up with the intention of destroying his reputation beyond repair.
I'm eying several other prompts on there going oh this one's a good Westhallen prompt (Love triangle? No!) or thinking how I've never written Len/Mick/Sara before but the criminal 4 criminal 4 criminal one could be fun for them, there are several I'm kinda going 'hmmmm, Barrisco???'... and I haven't done Oliver/Felicity/Dig since Telephone, but the friend group goes through trauma prompt does seem very them...
So I'll see what I write between now and July and maybe I'll hit a few of these. :D

Here is one for the last Flash & Hawkgirl which has been giving me a little trouble because it is the last and last ones of things always give me trouble, but I know the plot, I just need to work out how to get from where I am to where I need to be next. And I had an idea for playing around with the formatting a little as part of it, not sure if that will make it in or not, but in an ideal world it's being published next month (alongside a Speedster Siblings fic I have yet to actually sit and write, but a certain newspaper article is relevant to both so if I can get both done for then that would make me very happy. Though I have also been writing a little more of the Flashvibe Ghost AU so it's not impossible I'm going to get sucked into writing that instead. We'll see)

I really like the fanfiction with eobard and his brother. I thought he was your OC but I read the notes and I'm not sure now. did you make him up?
Hi friend :) I'm happy that you liked my fic!
Robern Thawne appears in Reverse Flash: Rebirth and he actually is Eobard's younger brother. I promise I did not pull a Full Life Consequences on you! You can read the aforementioned comic here, but I will also write an explanation as to who Robern is and the role he played in Eobard's life.
Explanation under the cut, long-ish post ahoy!
Eobard wasn't a wanted child. His parents paid for a bioengineered designed baby with ginger hair, blue eyes and 167IQ, and then kept him locked in a playpen, only giving him attention (of the negative kind) when Eobard would break a toy. Kid grows up affection starved and with "low social skills", so his parents are urged to make a second baby.
Robern Thawne is born, but their parents still have no idea what they should do with a child, which means itty bitty 7 year old-ish Eobard is shown taking care of his little brother who quickly becomes the golden child of the family. But their parents made it so Robern could boss Eobard around even when they were very little - we see Eobard trying to wrestle his whiny baby brother into doing things and if he dares raise his voice, their father manifests through screens to viciously scold Eobard.
Robern grows up and becomes a cop, whereas Eobard lost his chance at the career he wanted because his parents made it so he couldn't complete his academic studies in order to take care of his brother. His mother used to not let him finish his classes because he had the more important task of being Robern's caretaker. He still clandestinely studies the speedforce, and the person who finds out is Robern of all people - interestingly enough, when Robern hits him Eobard doesn't even defend himself (and in fairness, he never tried to hit Robern even once, not even when they were kids).
Robern is still very much willing to arrest him by the way. He literally says "turn yourself in, you wouldn't fight your own brother", the ungrateful little shit. This is when future Eobard, in his Reverse Flash persona, intervenes and saves himself by literally erasing Robern from the timeline (making it so as things are now, Eobard is an only child because Robern was never born).
And all things considered, what he does is pretty merciful and he only acts when he has no other options, because if he had just let himself be arrested he wasn't going to become the Reverse Flash.
What I did with my fic was adding another dark layer to their relationship. Robern is bossy, physically violent and feels quite literally entitled to his brother. Younger siblings don't seem common in the 25th century, and by context clues we can assume that it's because if the family decides to pay to get another child designed it can only be because the first one is a failure, and I can imagine that among other things, Robern quickly picked up on that too. He was the "good son", replacing his faulty older brother.
Leaving a link to the fic in case someone is interested! (please do mind the tags if you click, it's a darkfic)

🐑Whump, Morgan Wells Needs a Hug, Barry Allen needs a hug, Sibling feels, Eobard Thawne Is His Own Warning
I present: me vaguely teasing a plot point that occurs later in the s1 arc (idk if the fic will look exactly like this, but…somewhat):
Morgan rattled the doorknob, then threw herself against the door, screaming when the efforts amounted to nothing. “Tell me, Barry,” Thawne cooed, “do you know where Morgan is right now?” When the trap to catch Thawne fails, the Team is devastated…especially when he calls them to gloat. How are they supposed to beat him when he's always one step ahead? But then…he reveals something else too, someone else in danger. And Barry just got yet another reason to wring his neck.
fake fic ask game!

Tagged by @joanthangroff - thanks!
So this is a scene that I probably won’t include in An Honest Thief, but there might be snippets in flashback…
“Shall I tell you something incredible, Iris?” He leans forward, as if he thinks he’s being conspiratorial. “There are other dimensions out there. Other worlds.”
It seems expedient to pretend she didn’t already know that. “Are there?”
If it were possible, his expression gets even more smug. “There are. And on every alternate earth, in every different timeline, speedsters need an anchor.” His gaze turns distant. “Ugh, what’s that ridiculous phrase one of them uses? I can’t even remember which of those idiots… Ah yes. Lightning rod. Have you ever heard such overblown sentiment?”
Iris doubts he wants an answer. Thawne just likes the sound of his own voice. And that’s what she’s counting on.
I’m tagging @crestfallercanyon & @angst-is-love-angst-is-life - but only if you want to!

Ok ok
So imagine a universe where Thawne was just more chill (honestly I don’t know how else to say it so that’s what I’m going with) and instead of trying to destroy his life, he’s just mildly antagonistic to Barry
Now imagine him going to this link and ordering hundreds of boxes to Barry’s address

Wrote this fic for @ftl-faster-than-life's fic for art trade. Albeit I am a bit late with it, but still I had fun taking a shot at writing Eobard and his very interesting dynamic with Barry.
