Me and my mom are in the works of opening an emergency shelter for women in our community. Human trafficking and Domestic Violence is at an all time high in our town. A women my age died a few days ago due to domestic abuse. Her murderer is still out free; she died and he’s still out living his life. He killed her and she ended up saving four other people due to organ donation.
She was a daughter, a mother, a sister, a best friend to someone; and she’s gone. My heart breaks for her and her loved ones. My heart breaks for every women that’s treated unfairly, is disrespected, abused, neglected, killed. My heart breaks for every women that is scared to go out in public. My heart breaks for every mother that is terrified of their children growing up in a world that isn’t safe. I can’t sit by and watch it get worse in my town. So I’m doing something to make a difference, because we deserve better.
We are still in the beginning stages but we’re getting more people on board and getting funding as well as making connections for resources towards women that need sober living housing, rehab, mental health services, ect. We will get there and we will help change lives of people that have felt like they wouldn’t survive. I survived, and I’m finding my purpose and a part of my purpose is to help them. I just know it. So I will.

Buses brought the border to New York City. Soon emergency tents will house hundreds of migrants | CNN
CNN  —  The latest signs of the crisis New York is facing are massive white tents the city’s mayor says he never imagined he’d have to build. The arrival of buses from the border shows no sign of slowing, and these new emergency shelters on Randall’s Island could soon house hundreds of migrants. It’s been months since Texas Gov. Greg Abbott started busing migrants to New York. And it’s been…

Prompt 158
Klarion is on a mission. A very important mission of the utmost importance!
He, as the oldest of the family (at least sibling-wise) has been given the sacred task of bringing his baby siblings to find their own familiars! And nothing is going to stop him from seeing this task through! He’s not going to get distracted playing with the Justice League’s Baby Team, nor is he going to try and kick Stupid-Helmet-Head-The-Despised.
He’s going to help Jordan and Ellie find their own familiars, and Phantom-Dad will be so proud of him! Tucker-Dad will be proud too, and his Moms would as well! He’s going to absolutely rock this older-sibling thing!

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has signed a bill that is aimed at fighting homelessness.
Called “Home IL,” it will bring state agencies, nonprofit organizations and other advocates together. The bill focuses on an equity-based approach, which includes the voices and contributions of those who have experience homelessness.
It codifies the collaboration to move Illinois to “functional zero” homelessness by bolstering the safety net, targeting high-risk populations, expanding affordable housing, securing financial stability for unhoused individuals and closing the mortality gap.
“Every person deserves access to safe shelter and the dignity that comes with housing,” Pritzker said. “This is a first-of-its-kind multi-agency cooperative effort — bringing together state agencies, nonprofit organizations, advocates, and people with lived experience to prevent and end homelessness. I’m grateful for their dedication and believe that together, we can prevent and end homelessness once and for all.”
Rockford has already taken strides in this aspect. In 2017, it became the first community to reach “functional zero” levels among veterans and the chronically homeless.
Illinois’ Interagency Task Force and Community Advisory Council works across 17 state departments and agencies, as well as over 100 processes, programs and policies, to develop a comprehensive plan to combat homelessness.
The goal of the plan is to prevent shelter entry or ensure that shelter stays are limited and lead to quick transitions into stable living situations.
Pritzker has also committed about $360 million for the initiative in his FY24 budget. These investments include:
• $118 million to support unhoused populations seeking shelter and services, including $40.7 million in the Emergency and Transitional Housing Program.
• $50 million in Rapid ReHousing services for 2,000 households, including short-term rental assistance and targeted support for up to two years.
• $40 million in Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Capital funds to develop 90+ new PSH units providing long term rental assistance and case management.
• $37 million in Emergency Shelter capital funds to create more than 460 non-congregate shelter units.
• $35 million for supportive housing services, homeless youth services, street outreach, medical respite, re-entry services, access to counsel, and other shelter diversion supports.
• $21.8 million to provide homelessness prevention services to approximately 6,000 more families.
• $30 million for court-based rental assistance.
• $15 million to fund Home Illinois Innovations Pilots.
• $12.5 million to create 500 new scattered site PSH units.
“People experiencing the trauma of housing instability are our neighbors and community members who deserve to be treated with humanity and dignity. With this cooperative effort, Illinois is ensuring our state agencies can continue to collaborate, and that stakeholders are at the table with us, to support our most vulnerable in living healthy, well, and with dignity.” Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton said. “Our state is making it clear that we will continue to work together so we can all move forward, and we will focus on holistic strategies that bring us closer to ending homelessness in our state.”

It’s annoying to have to be an advocate to a shelter for the wellbeing of a kitten I’m fostering FOR them. One of the kittens is premature and we managed to stabilize him after days of dropping weight but there is clearly something happening we can’t see and now we gotta start twisting their arms or bit the bullet and use our own money to bring him to a vet

In time, several high-rises will be constructed on a 10-acre property in Penticton across from the city’s hospital. The decade-long project, announced on Friday by the city and a developer, could cost as much as $800 million. However, that’s down the road, assuming city council gives it the green light. This winter, the industrial site at 1704 Government St. will be turned into an emergency winter shelter for the homeless.

concept: mike hugging will like he did in season one with his head on will's chest + will's little rabbit heart running WILD, thumping so loudly and so madly that it makes mike lift his head like "woah, are you okay? 🥺" and will, blushed positively pink all over to the point where he might just break out into a sweat and die of mortification and simultaneous glee, just chokes out a very unconvincing "yeah, no, i'm—i'm okay. i'm okay, mike. :)" and mike doesn't reaaaaaally believe it but when he rests his head over will's heart again and will wraps an arm around his back, holding him close, he can't help but smile into the worn fabric of will's shirt and pray that the world allows them this one moment of peace for a little while longer

That w359 post is why the only non-Hephaestus AU I've posted about was the community college employees one because working at a community college is roughly equivalent to working on a crumbling space station in terms of pressure cooker environments that bond you through trauma. Yesterday I got calls and texts that there was a tornado but the college never turned the interior alert system on. Then an hour later I was on lunch break and the water stopped working because they'd turned it off to do a test at 11:30. Then two hours after that we lost internet for 30 minutes. The facilities guy told us he personally won't drink the water but refused to elaborate.

Queer Itch.io VN List
So IDK when I'll be able to post art again so here's another bit of content. Queer visual novels from itch.io. Not all of these are itch exclusive so you steam only? Feel free to check. Oh these will be 18+. Four things going in; 1.) Not all of these are finished. I'll be breaking it up between finished and unfinished.
2.) A lot of them are furry because the furry VN and queer VN venn diagram is a pair of nested circles.
3.) Spoilers, will be light but they will exists.
4.) Mostly MLM because that's the place I tend to live.
Coming Out On Top: 5/10
Starting with Coming Out on Top because it's the most average of the list and the quinessential baby gay VN. It's cute, fun, funny, sexy and has the depth of a brook at best. Light fun but has a couple of issues one with stereotypes, the other with power dynamics it adamantly doesn't want to think about because sexy.
Nekojishi: 6/10
Nekojishi is a bit more interesting than Coming Out on Top. Has more depth by and large but is also more fun than deep. Cute characters and while I cannot speak to cultural fidelity the husbandos are all in front of an interesting situational backdrop.
Full Service: 5/10
Similar to COoT, hot guys, sexy CGs, fun and silly moments with big personalities for the husbandos. But doesn't really explore the conflict beyond having something to spice up the romance, tempted to dock points for an infuriating mascot character.
Human Cargo: 6/10
Has a bit more going on between the ears than the baseline but the plot is still more a vehicle for the husbandos. Hot CGs, very cute, a good bit of soft moments and the romance feels at least a bit like an earned climax to the relationship.
In Case of Emergency: 8/10
So this is where we've broken the 'plot as car for husbandos' glass cieling. This is one that definitely has something more going on than date hotties. I dock a little bit of points for it being a bit hard to parse towards the end as to how interactions gets a good ending. BUT gets points for it being the start of the relationship. It feels like the MC matters to the route but not like he 'fixes' their problems. They're all on the road to a better place. Be warned a bittersweet game.
Adastra: 9/10
So I did play Echo first which makes me a bit of an oddity apparently. I think that was a part of the reason the emotions of Adastra didn't hit me quite as hard. Like I was expecting the other shoe to drop. Also since I was waiting for that I also spent much of the early game frustrated by 'Marco's' choices. That said Amicus is everything the Echo fandom wishes Leo was.
Arches: 8/10
Arches is going here before Echo for a reason despite being a nominal sequel, but also... I have so many mixed feelings here. It's an objectively good story, it makes me feel things. It's also REALLY depressing and I feel genuinely conflicted about if it's a very good or very bad representation of schizophrenia.
Echo: 10/10
Yeah I know it's the bloody posterchild for the subversive dating sim, it's also why the spoiler tag exists. Because Echo sets up as a dating sim meant to evoke nostalgia and then devolves into a psychological horror on the level of one of the classic Silent Hill games. Also Leo is the Ur-Furry Thirst Trap and the fandom shows just how terrifyingly effective he is at it. Horror and tragedy in equal measure. And at the end so I can start the unfinished list with it's prequel...
UNFINISHED: There are enough here that are so solid despite still being updated that I needed to keep the list separate. They would get points docked for not being one but I didn't want that to reflect on how evocative they are.
The Smoke Room: 10/10
The prequel and chronologically first game in the Echo Trilogy. Set one hundred years before Echo shortly before the 1915 hysteria and following Sam, a sex worker at the local Saloon. It's charming, unnerving, tragic (especially given Echo ESPECIALLY WILLIAM'S route if you know you know.) All the husbandos and side characters are delightful and charming in their own ways.
Errant Kingdom: 6/10
I would award it a higher score but between being bought, unfinished, and having been slow to update I'm worried it's a dying project. I am more sympathetic to the slow updates because every chapter is functionally three chapters as each origin point is a genuinely different story even when they are at a converging point such as the speech, or merchant's party. The art is beautiful and the characters are fun and interesting. I truly hope it's still in development.
Andromeda Six: 7/10
Also in development hell but getting slightly more updates and has a valentines day side story that is complete. Sci-fi story about an amnesiac with a crew of mercs on the wrong side of a successful coup. There's twists and turns some obvious some much less so that make it engaging. Fun romance options for straight mlm and wlw.
Repeat: 9/10
Repeat OOZES charm, it's fun, has a shockingly fun core of mystery hilarious and engaging characters. Fun and sexy CGs. And a lot of heart that makes the tragic lows hit just that much harder.
Santa Lucia: 8/10
Fun with an Echo-esque mystery and horror subplot. Engaging and been following it for a while. That said I do dock a little points for the routes not intersecting with the main plot as well as Echo which inextricably links the two. Still overall a very good time.
Socially Awkward: 9/10
Hilarious and also incredibly charming, bonus points for all the characters being incredibly similar to actual people I know. It makes the whole friend group cast likeable and realistic. Even the trash goblins like John.
Soulcreek: 9/10
Interesting, intense, one of my favorite genres, good art, but has some frustrating moments early game similarly to Adastra. Ultimately not enough to really drag it and the mystery and setting is MORE than enough to keep you clicking.
Dawn Chorus: 10/10
Okay so this one's a bit of a cheat for me. It's only a 10/10 because it's my comfort VN. Dawn Chorus is like a warm bowl of soup or cup of tea on a cold rainy day. It's cute, sweet, and character driven with an undercurrent of tragedy for many of the characters that makes you hope for the best.
Shelter: 10/10
Remember how I said Soulcreek's my facorite genre? Well so is Shelter. Fantasy that's secretly a Post Apocalyptic sci-fi. It's got mystery, uses the Visual Novel format in unique and amazing ways. Also puns, SO FUCKING MANY PUNS. The world building Raus does here drove me to dip my toes into the setting with a fic it was that inspiring.

i'm so curious about people's different takes with the school in s5, because there being a time jump and so on was already pretty clear since last year. but how exactly school will be impacted is SO divisive here. because it'll have to be either:
school is in session as normal in s5/at the start of s5. the rifts opening for the spores to rain through in the last seconds of s4 won't have immediate apocalyptic consequences (or it will, but will be at least semi contained for the time jump). which would mean Nancy's monsters everywhere vision would only come true after over a year of time skip
school is regularly in session but under extraordinary circumstances. giving the local kids an education IS a priority and the consequences of the rifts opening are not severe enough to limit going outside. it's at least not live threatening to do so and you're not at an immediate risk of getting swooped off your feet by a demobat. the spores and rifts are still a noticeable/dangerous presence in town and acknowledged by people to some degree (depending on what the spores even do) but kids being in the school building (especially with military in town now) is deemed save enough
school is not regularly in session. it's still a setting we see, similarly to how it's used by the end of s4, with it being a shelter and clothing/food distribution site. which would only become more needed with a progressing apocalypse underway and houses being destroyed by the rifts merging. the opening rifts in the last minutes of s4 trigger an immediate start of an apocalyptic scenario. which could either play out as Demogorgon In Melvads General Store Right Now, OR the military trying to regulate things and people still living semi normally/not fully aware of the extent of shit they're in
and all of these (technically 4) versions can also include varying levels of what things like the spores actually do. Hawkins could realistically be deemed a quarantine/containment zone which would require anyone in town by the end of s4 to stay put even with an apocalypse underway. the spores could also be a health hazard, radiation, link things/people to the UDs hivemind, and so on. we only see the rifts open, the actual effect of the spores isn't something we were allowed to see yet, major teaser
there's just a lot of directions they could take it in, i'm not even sure which one i would prefer most honestly
i only know i don't really like option 1, of everything being totally normal. because the dead/missing people, military, anti hellfire club, and so on are There now, they're not just going away and aren't easy to ignore during a "regular schoolday" either
i think going the full apocalypse route right away could feel a bit fast with the vibe ST generally has. but ST has had escalating conflicts, we're pretty far away from the small town horror and well into the sci fi horror by now imo. and since s5 IS very much a continuation of s4 plot wise, as the writers kept saying and s4 set up, things getting apocalyptic quick Would work significantly better than if it was a stand alone season
i also can't really see an easy way for them to backpedal to a relatively "normal" setting with how they ended s4. there's gate rifts all over town, the earthquake caused damage, people are leaving town, and in the last seconds of the season the rifts open letting spores and lighting from the UD pass over. like, that's bad full stop
them just closing the gates again for a time skip, only for them to open Again would be unnecessarily repetitive to me. they spent all of s4 getting to the point of the UD splitting Hawkins, i don't know if them pulling a sike and prolonging it more, only to do it later on, is something that would work well
so if they actually wanted to include the kids going to school in s5 i'd personally hope it's under unusual circumstances. just moving from everyone fleeing, dozens of people being dead and missing, religious fear movement over demons, everyone watching weird spores rain from the sky, back to a reality where people go grocery shopping to school and to work and hang out at the park would be a let down to me
(also i think there's something interesting about the concept of people pretending everything is still semi okay. even with it being very evident that it isn't really. would be very fitting both for the general closed off small town trope but also the theme of facades and pretending they went so hard on in s4)
i just want to know what they're going to go for tbh. i'd personally lean towards school but under fucked up and unusual circumstances based on how the writing has looked up until now (or no school if they want to be Really drastic about the apocalypse thing and lean fully into it ig)

Name reveal but I don't even care. I genuinely need help. I am currently homeless with next to nothing. I need help getting to a safe more permanent home, or to at least keep the wheels turning long enough to find some sort of job or gig work.
I am currently staying in an emergency shelter. I took a bus to the library today to put out some job applications to *maybe* get something that I can do even for a short time. However I still have no money for food and anything I have left needs to be kept for gas in the car. Thank you all for your kindness in advance.
