We are facing the greatest upheaval since industrialization. To stop climate change, the energy system must be transformed worldwide. Very little time remains to accomplish this. But there are places where this renewable future has already arrived.
The documentary explores the question of what needs to happen in terms of politics, policies, and society to implement what is technically possible, when it comes to renewable energy. To do this, the film visits two completely different places. One is in the US and the other, in Bavaria. These localities have two things in common: Both have completely converted their energy supply to renewables and as a result, both now have more money in their coffers today than before.
The documentary provides a global overview of the solutions that already exist for a worldwide energy transition. And it asks what challenges still need to be overcome -- not only in the laboratories and power plants, but also among the movers and shakers who must drive the change today.
Part 1:
• Will renewables stop t...

New York City rich and poor — the inequality crisis | DW Documentary
“Even before COVID-19, New York was already defined by a gap between the rich and poor. Yet during the pandemic, wealth has become a determinant of survival.
The pandemic hit New York in the spring, with almost 800 people dying from COVID-19 each day in April. The city has been uneasy since then. People's lives have been shaken by months of stay-at-home orders, changing public health measures, "Black Lives Matter" protests, the presidential election, and above all the economic consequences of the pandemic, including ever-widening inequality between New Yorkers.
Stefanie Dodt and Christiane Meier are the creators of "New York City Rich and Poor - The Inequality Crisis." They spent more than eight months following the lives of three New York families who inhabit the different strata of New York society - the bottom, the top and the middle.
The documentary links this long period of observation with intensive data research and analysis and shows why, long before COVID-19, it was clear who the disease would hit hardest. The boundaries between rich and poor are often clearly defined by neighborhoods. Where a person lives determines their risk of becoming infected with the virus, and health has become more of a luxury than ever. The pandemic is spotlighting the scale and consequences of economic inequality in America. In New York, a city of extremes, the emphasis is white hot - and reflects in brash New York style the structural problems all of America is facing as COVID-19 further amplifies inequality.”

Who is Narendra Modi? - India's path to becoming a world power | DW Documentary
Who is Narendra Modi? – India's path to becoming a world power | DW Documentary
Many consider Narendra Modi to be the new strong man on the international stage. The right-wing nationalist has steered India’s fortunes since 2014. He is the key player behind the new Indo-Pacific alliance against China. “No power in the world can stop a country of 1.3 billion people. The 21st century will be India’s century,” Modi says. After six decades of the Nehru-Gandhi family’s rule, India…

I didn't go to [Doctor Who] conventions for a very good reason. I thought the fans would kill me. - Matthew Jacobs who wrote the 1996 TV movie with Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor
I'm currently watching a documentary titled "Doctor Who Am I" about this guy and how his friend (who's a documentary film maker) encouraged him to start going to conventions many decades after the movie aired.
He freely admits that his 2 major mistakes were making the Doctor half human and having the Doctor kiss the woman who would be the new companion if it had turned into a new series.
Also, I had no idea that he had written The Emperor's New Groove.

Mankind is facing the greatest upheaval since industrialization. To stop climate change, the energy system must be transformed worldwide and fossil fuels must be completely replaced. But is this even possible?
Time is running out. If climate targets are still to be met and the survival of future generations is to be ensured, virtually all fossil energy sources worldwide will have to be replaced by renewables by 2050. That leaves us with almost exactly one generation from today to make this massive change. So what needs to happen for the global energy transition to succeed?
Part 1 of this two-part documentary looks at the question of whether it’s even possible to provide enough green energy for the whole world. How can the oil economy be replaced? The film travels to places that could one day become the Saudi Arabia of renewable energies. For example, gigantic offshore wind farms in the North Sea, or the most modern solar fields in Spain. One day, these regions will supply all of Europe with electricity.
However, the globally increasing demand for energy must be met in ways that are both sustainable and affordable. Researchers at the Technical University of Ilmenau in Thuringia are working with a team from the California Institute of Technology on high-tech materials that will make renewable energies more efficient and less expensive than their fossil fuel predecessors.
Part 2:
• Global renewables: Pio...
