The Lady is a silent phantom.
She does not speak
She does not laugh
She does not smile.
She doesn’t appear to have any mouth to do so, in fact.
She is elusive, she rarely shows herself.
When she does shows herself, it’s almost always from afar. she simply….stares. Her eyes dark pits, watching as if she’s waiting for something. Expectant.
Her face is almost always blank, sometimes she has no pupils, sometimes he sees her crying….silently.
Her face is hard to remember in detail.
He doesn’t know what she wants. He doesn’t know how to appease her.
The other phantoms show because they are angry, they are sad, they want to mock him, whatever reason…..
Toriel is a blank slate.
…Toriel was her Name.
He couldn’t quite remember. He KNEW her name, but couldn’t remember it.
He’s had enough instances running into variants after leaving (as in forcefully being plucked by Nightmare) his empty timeline, to have picked up on her name.
…Toriel. It felt right at least.
When dust sees her, he can’t help but stare back.
Sometimes she’s distorted. He has a hard time remembering her face.
His freshest impression of her is her horrified face, but a few moments before she is attacked.
He tried to make it quick.
He never allowed himself to meet her properly.
With the other phantoms, he can at least attempt to ignore them. He can rationalize them. When Toriel decides to show herself, everything else freezes. Goes cold.
He tries to approach her, only for her to run away, further and further. He’s sometimes spent hours wandering around, feeling a need to talk to her.
Why won’t she talk to him?
Everyone else does.
Sometimes he will catch up. She will stop and allow him to approach. He tries to speak to her. He needs to hear her voice. He misses hearing the warmth in her voice, the laughter, the solace they gave eachother.
He’s desperate for a response, one word, Anger, sadness, laughter, anything.
Any response.
…silence.
This rejection hurts more than the insults and reminders from the other phantoms.
All he can do is stare at her from a distance. The black tar like scaring and distorted features on her face.
Somehow, she instills an un-ignorable feeling of disappointment
The only time he’s seen her looking away from him is when he’s chased her.
Rarely, he has heard her laughter, sounding so muffled and far away, but still clearly her. He drops everything to go look, to find her.
He never does.
Dust may forget her features, but never her voice. If Toriel does speak to him, he has a bit of a breakdown. The incredibly few times she’s uttered words, usually laughter or heartbroken whispers, it’s over his shoulder. He never sees her speak.
Was she even there…?
Surely he couldn’t mistake her voice, could he?
The worst part about hearing Toriel, is he can never remember a word she utters afterwards.
Just the voice. Just the feeling of whatever she said.
Toriel has never uttered his name…..she never knew it to begin with.
….her name WAS Toriel, right?
(Headcanons for this @cosmo-clown ;) )

Coraline au
the door to the "other world" was opened by the royal scientist as he fell into the "mist"/void.
a spider found itself way through the crack.
the lonely spider saw the monsters in despair. they were trapped underground longing to see the sun.
seeing the warmth of company and their kindness... their LOVE. the lonely spider became envious. for it could never fully teach beyond it's realm.
it could not bring them to the surface... but it COULD bring the surface to THEM.
it began to spin a web of lies. a world filled with their hopes and dreams of freedom. a world where they could all be happy. and they wouldn't have to be alone anymore. they'd have a family.
they wove the thread of fate itself around slowly trapping more and more souls in it. sewing buttons on their eyes as a claim over their souls.
it was no longer lonely.
it had spun itself a home. an eternal paradise.
but something from the [mist] severed the link.
just then the monster started to tlsee the terrifying web of lies it had woven... putting the lives of his people on puppet strong for it's amusement.
a game was proposed.
a gamble.
if he won, they'd have to set everyone lose. if they won he'd let them own his soul again.
of course he knew their game was rigged. they'd never let him go even if he won... so he gave it a twist.
that if he could KILL everyone before they turned them into puppets then they had NO CHOICE.
their web would unwind and their power would weaken.
it wasn't like he could escape. this world was beyond saving. but at least he could give the a death in free spirit.
after getting rid of all the souls they'd be weak enough for him to kill...
of course they knew this. but it's so rare that prey like this fights back. being the one on the run... they miss sentiment. and this game is much more fun than they thought.
they really REALLY like this one... maybe even if he loses they wouldn't take his soul... no. it'd be a shame to sew buttons on those beautiful vengeful eyes.
