yeah this is where canon dusttale is a bit wonky.
LV measures your capacity to hurt and endure pain. exp is how much you can harm OTHERS.
you need determination FOR getting LV/EXP but ov and exp don't inherently give you determination. in fact it can be the opposite! LV makes you emotionally numb and it increases your endurance. your apathy. and the less you CARE the less you hurt...
that can also mean less determination.
honestly? I don't headcanon dust got determination. I headcanon it as a glitch in the system resulted from Chara being bypassed by the player again and again (Chara was supposed to erase the timeline but player edited some files and they could no longer be the FINALITY of the timeline)
so like... technically ANYONE could've just remembered everything at some point but the FUN value decided that sans was the best candidate to replace "the demon to the angel's heaven".
same with how alphys replaced gaster after he fell in the core.
it's been implied that this version of Undertale has had people ERASED and replaced.
so I don't think it's farfetched to assume Chara got deleted and the code is forcing that role onto sans...

It's really funny to think about Dusttale and Dust-adjacent AUs and how they use wacky "LV = power = Determination" logic...
and then there's Undertale's Mercy route, where the human can heal themself, reduce the damage they take, form healing items, SAVE their friends' souls, and straight up refuse to die outright to someone that's essentially a god through their own determination...
all without having to harm anyone.
#i mean... the pacifist route is dust's biggest fear#because it gives the player the ability to do a [true reset]#so in a way he's not trying to gey stronger than the player#he's trying to WEAKEN them

I have a CV AU idea
Night of the Museum AU
The Museum in question is a multi fandom Museum that houses all the CV characters plus more(as a lot of other characters from other media and stories do exist as well, just not in the household), I just need a name for the museum- BUUUTTT-
Since Redwolf and I's OCs will also be part of the museum, we need nightguards, which gave me a great idea! I'll have some of my Tumblr moots/friends be the nightguards!
