Let’s face it: if Az and Elain were mates, Az wouldn't have hesitated to eliminate any threats. Elain would not only have to deal with her transformation but also with the fact that her fiancé would be dead by Az's hands.
We've seen Az's ruthlessness firsthand, like when he attacked Eris over a comment on Mor's attire and when he eliminated everyone around Gwyn. Even after 500 years, he still wants to invoke a blood duel against Eris and would see it as a good riddance if Lucien were to eliminate Graysen.
On the other hand, Lucien controls his anger when Graysen is brought up and doesn't react to provocation, relying more on words than actions.
Gwyn represents a fresh start for Az, someone without romantic entanglements and whose first time was taken from her. Az needs someone who doesn't know his history with Mor, just as much as Gwyn needs someone she feels safe around.
It’s not coincidental that Gwyn's first impression of Azriel was him at his worst, and she admires it, grateful for his actions, unlike something she would learn later and have to accept. Gwyn's fascination with violence hints at her compatibility with Azriel.
SJM prioritizes authenticity in relationships, valuing the ability of a couple to be genuine and true to themselves around each other over mere aesthetic appeal.

the black rose arc is funny because initially the duelists at least have personal reasons for hating anthy and it makes sense they would be manipulated into trying to kill her. but then shiori comes back to school and has a mental breakdown that has nothing at all to do with anthy or utena and she still ends up dueling. for some reason.

Soooooo about that new tgcf episode, right? (novel spoilers for those who have not finished book 1)
Across the board tgcf season 2 has honestly been blowing away all my expectations for just how *good* of an adaptation it was going to be. It definitely helps that the 2nd half of book one is probably my favorite arc in the entire series and it brings me great joy to see it animated with such care.
Case and point, I was not expecting them to go quite so hard in showcasing the history of Xie Lian and Lang Qianqiu but it is by far my favorite scene in the episode. There is just. So much attention to detail here.
First up we have how they actually transition into the massacre.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The returning thematics of the 3rd glass of water problem being presented and what that means for Xie Lian and Lang Qianqiu specifically are clear enough from how the novel presents them, but this is just a perfect way to showcase that visually. By having Qianqiu's statement of "he shouldn't have intervened from the beginning" into Xie Lian becoming that 3rd person to take responsablity for the Gilded Banquet. The way that this also shows how it will reflect Qianqiu's views on what Xie Lian did when the truth is revealed.
Also shoutout to how menacing Xie Lian is as he walks up to the king. The donghua is really selling you on the possibility that maybe Xie Lian did do this. However, important to note, Xie Lian does not have a speck of blood on him- until he kills the king. A clever bit of foreshadowing to how the only blood Xie Lian actually has on his hands is the king's, no one else in that room was killed by him.
Tumblr media
I wish i had the screencap of when Qianqiu has overtaken Xie Lian because this is such a miserable and perfect parallel shot between the two of them.
Tumblr media
Circling back to the initial transition with the 3rd glass of water question, we see Xie Lian becoming that third person to prevent Lang Qianqiu from having to do so in his stead. He turns that 3rd person question in to a simple good and evil scenario. Upcoming we'll have Xie Lian's declaration of "Good! I hope you never become like me!" to Lang Qianqiu and furthering the parallels between them, and this is such a classic shot to establish such parallelism. Lang Qianqiu is so young and terrified and eerily similar to Xie Lian. And Xie Lian, who we have come to know as a apathetic but ultimately compassionate and kindhearted person, fully assume the mask of the villain.
Anyways if anyone needs me i am going to chewing this episode between my teeth

why touga burned the exchange diary
because he wants to undermine saionji
because he wants to undermine saionji specifically for attaining the rose bride (which he had yet to) (and, in the most likely scenario, considering neither juri nor miki had been motivated to duel before, saionji attained the rose bride by beating touga in a duel)
because he wants to undermine the idea that true friendship exists
because he resents saionji expressing “genuine” feeling for someone besides him
because he needs to hurt, lie, cheat, and manipulate those closest to him to feel good about himself
because he’s a messy bitch who lives for drama

My drow Warlock 'defeated' a potential wife and won her husbands as a result. These are the two normal ones that will probably live with him longer term <3

My heart just absolutely breaks thinking what if Majima knew beforehand that Kiryu's days were numbered but he was in denial, refusing to believe that a fucking illness of all things would put the nail in the Dragon's coffin. So when they finally meet in that shack, he starts their conversation with a taunt, because he needs to see it for himself to believe it. To come to terms with the fact that Kiryu is actually dying.
And so, they fight. It gets real ugly real quick and by the end of it, Majima's eye is glazed over with a terrifying realisation as he stands over Kiryu's beaten body, his breathing more laboured than it had any right to be.
Going into the fight, Majima wanted to be absolutely crushed by those large hands, years of pent up feelings and frustration being pounded down onto him. That way he'd know that the Dragon was still alive and kicking. That his Kiryu-chan was not actually dying an excruciatingly slow death.
But his victory rings like a funeral toll in his ears. This is all wrong. Kiryu Kazuma is supposed to his perfect rival, his true equal. The only one who could tame the Mad Dog. Not the bleeding, coughing mess of a man that laid underneath him. This couldn't be happening.
But when Kiryu looked at Majima, he felt more than saw the remnants of wildfire in the Dragon's eyes, flickering away more and more by the second. It took every single fibre of Majima's being to not end the poor bastard's life right there.
What was the use anyway—the Dragon was already dead.

fuck pompey and sulla. i'm shipping you with crassus. space and time are no barriers for the "king of my heart".
OH LMAO I FORGOT I LEFT THAT TAG IN A POST
thank you, but for crassus' general well being, it's probably best if time and space was a barrier because it would end in a 'someone has died under suspicious circumstances' situation. he'd start planning on rigging an election and I'd immediately try and stab him. it's for the best that 'king of my heart' mostly means that I spend more time than I want to peeling him like an orange and sticking him into situations.

Beat Cop from the Underworld
"2 monsters If this card is Link Summoned using 2 DARK monsters with different names as material, it gains this effect.
You can Tribute 1 monster, then target 1 face-up card on the field; place 1 Patrol Counter on it. You can only use this effect of 'Beat Cop from the Underworld' once per turn. (If a card with a Patrol Counter would be destroyed by battle or card effect, remove 1 Patrol Counter from it instead.)"

q!Forever, today: BadBoyHalo please please PLEASE fight me to the death PLEASE you HAVE to! For ENRICHMENT!
jokes aside I do kinda feel bad for q!Forever because he’s tried to talk about the election twice with q!Bad and both times q!Bad has been like “ehhh I’ll think about it”
First time was q!Forever asking q!Bad to vote for him which q!Bad hesitated on because he didn’t remember if he had promised a vote to someone else (and for other reasons)
And then the second time q!Forever asks to do a competition for one presidential life - which q!Bad can’t accept because he thinks he needs to be able to sacrifice one of his lives in order for his plan to kill ElQuackity to work - which he promised Max he’d do - which means he can’t lose it to Forever until he knows he can kill ElQuackity without it.
I feel bad - but it’s really funny. And to be fair to q!Bad, q!Forever’s proposal of a competition did kindaaaa come across like “i want to kill you pleeeease let me kill you cmon get rid of those totems so i can kill you just take off your armor and do a water drop with me it’ll be fine I promise :)”
