Episode 3
Title: Escape! Nitro Warrior vs Goyo Gaurdian!/ Pipe Dreams
Summary (via Crunchyroll): Looking to get his Stardust Dragon Card back from Jack Atlas, Yusei takes off in a race against time and Sector Security.
Tumblr media
Or: Yusei's vengeful side returns...but also he makes some good points.
Me: Inevitably, since I set myself a schedule of course I would break said schedule in the first week but it's fine because it's not like people are reading these.
Tumblr: you have one follower.
Me: Crap on a cracker.
Nah, that's actually pretty cool, it just figures, though, lol.
ANywho, since this episode was mostly a duel, I actually do have less commentary than on the previous two episodes. I mean it this time. Much less to say. lol
....
Character Change Time! This has been true of the previous two episodes as well, but is really very obvious in this particular episode so I'm calling it out now: Nervin (dub) is much more of a worrywart than Nerve (sub). This... isn't necessarily a bad thing; just different.
Going along with that, all of his friends are just a little bit skeptical of his plan working in the dub, while in the sub they are all very supportive and wishing him well.
Another minor change is that Rally's Turbo Booster is, in the dub, from his dad rather than just his favorite card. Why this was added, I don't know, but it does beg the question of whether or not Rally's father knows he's hanging out in the old subway system past curfew. Like, I'm gonna go with 'no' but it just makes me chuckle a little.
Speaking of curfew, I do like that dub-only detail (Trudge: "Don't you know it's two hours passed curfew? Or can you still not tell time?"). It technically also came up in episode 1 (though I didn't note it in my post) as how Yusei and Rally had previous gotten into trouble and brings in another aspect of the oppression the people of Satellite are living under.
....
The dub also does a better job of explaining how Trudge could force Yusei into a duel via the "stolen" chip, rather than just "Security can just do that if they want to apparently".
Trudge is also back with Horrible Insults That I Love: "Just like in life, you're going nowhere." It's just... a really great line that emphasizes that he already (thinks) he knows Yusei and, because this whole thing is very personal, he very much means it. It's not just a generic insult that he would or could throw at any and every Satellite. He (thinks he) knows Yusei and the value he places on him is 'worthless'.
One of the more interesting changes is from Yusei acknowledging Ushio's power vs him absolutely scorning it (careful, there, you're starting to be as cocky as Jack): Sub: "So that's the power of authority." vs. Dub: "[You can lock me up] Assuming you can catch me." The first is Yusei admitting that, in terms of dueling, Sector Security is a force to be reckoned with (even if he doesn't trust authority in any way), while the second is just completely blowing them off. (I like both, okay; both are good.)
But then Vengeful Yusei comes back out. In the sub, the idea is simply that Yusei doesn't like being held back ("I don't like this. I'm going forward!"), and, while not reaching Jack is still certainly part of that, it's not to the same extent as the dub: "If I get out-dueled down here, I may never get another chance to settle the score with Jack, and Jack will never have to answer for what he did." It's just interesting to me that this idea of vengeance keeps coming up. Is it justified? Yeah, arguably so. Yusei was greatly hurt by what Jack did. But, as I've said previously, it just doesn't work as well with the overall narrative.
....
The dub managed to add some really great lines to this duel, but one line that I really and truly love from the sub is this: "You keep saying 'garbage' over and over. Don't you know any other words?" Obviously this doesn't work in the dub because Trudge doesn't call the Satellites garbage like he frequently does in the sub. I love this because as stoic as sub!Yusei is, he's actually being just a little bit cheeky here by insulting Ushio's vocabulary (or lack thereof) and making a good point about Ushio himself at the same time and how people in general view those from Satellite.
On the other side of things, a line from the dub that I actually kind of wish was also in the sub is this: "All you've seen are rules being broken but you've never stopped to ask why, have you?" Because, dang, man... this... this is an excellent line that makes an excellent point that demonstrates the moral character of both of them. Yusei breaks rules that are unjust; Trudge enforces rules because the law is supposed to be just but he has never questioned whether it actually is just in the first place. (That's a dang good line, 4kids, kudos.)
....
As an interesting note on the sub: Ushio still does not know Yusei's name. I'm going to be curious to see which episode it is that he actually learns it, haha.
And, once again, I have nothing good to say about the ending of a dub episode because the dub added lines again and, in this case, those lines added absolutely nothing to the narrative. One of these days maybe I'll have a good note to end on, haha.
....
So there we have it! Episode 3 in the books!
If you made it all the way to the end, thanks for reading, and be sure to let me know what you think of the changes that were made!

I've waited long enough to share my next dnd character.
Her name was/is Melita Honeydew.
Melita started out as a trickster cleric following Tymora (note, I was always uncomfortable with the whole worshipping gods and things so I refer to them as girlfriends/boyfriends). She had been banished from her temple for a year because of a trick gone wrong and then stayed in exile by choice for the next few years before her girlfriend told her to go stop a death curse.
Our party went on a quest to put a stop to the goblin attacks in the south and discovered a metal golem that was being worshiped as a god. With the help of our ranger and the charisma of our crazy warlock we took control of the golem and attempted to convince the goblins to stop their violent ways and create Sub Canopy, the subway empire of the forgotten realms.
Unfortunately, the deception was not successful. Two of us were killed, Melita was gravely injured, and the two who survived retired upon returning to town. Our rogue became the adoptive father of the warlocks son, and Fritzi's daughter, and our ranger hid in the shadows, leaving gifts on thr doorsteps out of guilt.
And so, a new party was born. With Melita somehow being thrust into the role of leader, but her heart was broken. Mischief was no longer for her. So she dumped her girlfriend Tymora and hooked up with Sune. She lost her magic in the process of the switch and was given a quest to reclaim it - obtain and offer a black orchid for Sune.
It wasn't long before Melita discovered that this item was one of the main quest items resulting in a classic, selfish vs. selfless conundrum.
Melita and her team found the orchid in the lair of a medusa. At first no one knew she was a medusa but when she did reveal herself I made the conclusion that medusas in this world work the same as the Percy Jackson world and pulled out a mirror so I could look at her.
She saw her own reflection.
Our DM rolled a nat 1
The medusa was turned to stone in less than one round.
An epic victory.
And upon the party's return, Melita gave up her one chance at magic for their sake. But then, her girlfriend, Sune, lady of light, rewarded her for her selflessness with the title of paladin! Melita got a super awesome fiery sword dubbed Firesong.
The set out to stop the death curse!
Helped some dwarves took a route through the mines where the party faced a dragon.
At first, our gnomish - sorry, ELVISH wizard (he said he's an elf and we all agreed to play along) went into the lair alone to scope out the area, little did he know that the dragon could see through his invisibility. In proper Hobbit fashion, a game of riddles began and it seemed to be going well, until the dragon (whose name is not Smaugette, that's just what I dubbed her as) presented a riddle that our elf friend could not decipher.
Like the intelligent man our newfound rogue was, he stepped out from our hiding place, Melita not far behind, and declared the answer. The dragon was enraged at the rogue for interrupting "a sacred game of riddles" and the battle began and ended with Melita and the elf doing everything in their power to save the rogue with the lowest hp in the party even at the cost of their own lives.
Yes, they both perished. Sune took Melita and her Firesong to rest in peace.
But that was not truly the end.

Omg, hi i just thought about your Modern!Reader and wanted to ask what the gangs favorite Modern food would be and why. Ok, love you, bye
HI I love u too
Modern!Au Gangs favorite food
So some of the food I mention here isn’t “Modern” per se, they have been around for a looong time in their origin country. But I guess they haven’t been around the US for too long? I dunno
I believe Arthur would really enjoy Sushi. I mean, I headcanon him as someone who really likes Seafood so I believe Sushi would be really up his alley. He enjoys the simple ones though, like Nigiri and Maki, not so much fancy California and Dragon Rolls.
Dutch would love to have Fondues with his intimate circle. Whether it be the normal or the cheese version like they do in Switzerland. Sitting around with others while eating, taking your sweet time while eating is really comforting to him.
Hosea lives for Coffee in all versions. Espresso, Latte Macchiato, Iced Coffee, Cappuccino, Cafe con Panna and even the sweet versions with caramel or cocoa. Catch him being a regular at Starbuck until he finds those tiny, cute Cafes where the coffee is just indefinitely better?
Did anyone say Pizza? John would definitely never say no to the suggestion of staying at home, ordering a giant Pizza. He’s always ordering from the same place where the people of course already know his voice, order, and address by heart.
Sean lives the sandwich Artist life. No, not because he works at a Subway store although I can actually really see him in this green outfit working behind a counter making subs and telling people their choice of meat and veggies is shiteeee. But when he’s at home he really takes his time and puts a lot of effort and thought into making the perfect sandwich.
Charles would love Indian curries. He appreciates the taste of the different spices and also is really into spicy food. He’d have at least 3 cookbooks on Indian food at home.
I think Tilly has a real sweet tooth. Also, she’s guilty of loving Boba Tea a little too much.
Javier loves the summertime and the heat, and the one thing he craves most on sunny days is Ice Cream. He honestly loves every flavor, aside from Vanilla which is just too bland and basic for him.
Lenny and Karen both live for junk food, I’m not kidding. While Lenny is a regular customer at Taco Bells, Burger King and Co., Karen is guilty on living off instant Ramen noodles for days at a time the fancy ones, mind you

The horrific Resident Evil playthrough, part ten
Resident Evil 6 is the big one that I was anticipating when I started this series playthrough in March. It’s the one that seems to have split the fanbase like no other, the one that some folks love and others abhor, and the one that took Resident Evil so far into the realm of explosions on top of zombies on top of exploding zombies that the franchise had no choice but to dial the entire thing back in Resident Evil 7 in order to give everyone’s minds a break before those exploded too. There is, in fact, a particular sort of enemy in this game that represents it well - called the Whopper, it’s a giant Fat Albert-looking thing that charges at you in a truly grotesque example of fun character design. It’s a bioweapon to be reckoned with, and when you see one coming your way, all you can say is “OH SHIT” as you try to blast its head apart before it barrages you into a wall.
RE6 is a whopper of a game. It’s chock full of so many different gameplay styles, so many plot threads, so many bits and pieces barely holding together at the seams in a mad effort to appease all sectors of the fan base - the people who preferred Resident Evil when it was eerie and quiet, the fans who fell in love with the series when Resident Evil 4 introduced an emphasis on action and the shippers who just love the characters and want to see them press the trigger of a Magnum at the same time and let loose with a bullet that will send the remains of a hulking Serbian mutation go stumbling backwards into the flames of a burning wind tunnel.
The only way to properly assess RE6 in the midst of all this madness is to look at its four campaigns one-by-one, which took me 33 hours in total to complete, a staggering number for this series.
Leon’s campaign - Everyone’s favorite Resident Evil protagonist who is still rocking Leonardo DiCaprio 90s hair (even though he’s aging in real-time and is apparently in his late 30s now) is BACK in this campaign, which seems to be the one that the game wants you to play first. It’s a rollicking adventure which I personally thought was the best of the bunch, though I wouldn’t blame you if you found Chris’ campaign better. I think I was won over by the fan service, since Leon’s opening chapter immediately channels Resident Evil 2 by forcing you to escape Tall Oaks, an American metropolitan area that’s essentially Raccoon City 2.0. Zombies will be lurching at you from the darkness like the old games, you’ve gotta run through subway cars just like in RE2 and RE3, and the whole vibe actually approaches scary at a few moments, which is something that the rest of this game has absolutely no time for. Partnered with Leon is Helena, a new character who’s also a US government agent but frankly kind of boring, and the pair quickly find themselves wrapped up in a conspiracy engineered by a politician named Derek Simmons. To figure out the extent of his conspiracy, you’ve gotta play Ada’s campaign (all the characters’ stories intersect at various points, which is one of this game’s best ideas), but let’s just say that Leon’s party ends in a wild rush to a made-up Chinese city named Lanshiang - which, from the POV of someone who lived in Hong Kong for six years, is clearly HK under another name. Half of Lanshiang gets blown up, Simmons transforms into what looks like a T-Rex and then a giant insect kaiju, and the general tone is deliciously batshit, though if you don’t like batshit then your mileage will vary. Leon gets music that I like to call "Funky Zombie Porno Breakbeats” for his ending theme, and I feel like this phrase can summarize the tone of the entire Resident Evil franchise perfectly.
Chris’ campaign - If Leon’s adventure was the cheesy-but-occasionally-spooky “LET’S TAKE THESE ZOMBIES TO SUPLEX CITY, CHUMS” vibe of Resident Evil 4 on acid, then Chris’ campaign is the “MILITARY ESPIONAGE ACTION AGAINST BIOWEAPONS, BRUH” vibe of Resident Evil 5 on acid. It begins with Chris suffering from a bout of PTSD after losing a contingent of his men in a made-up country that’s supposed to be Serbia, then moves to Lanshiang after ace sniper Piers recruits Chris for one last mission. Instead of zombies, you fight mostly J’avo, a breed of terrorists using viruses to give themselves horrific limbs, and everything resembles a Call of Duty or SOCOM game, with Chris hearing instructions from his squad leader through his headpiece, ducking behind cover to shoot J’avos apart and generally being a weathered, grumpy soldier. The main theme of Chris’ campaign is actually removed from the overarching tale involving Simmons, and the focus is instead on the quieter, MANLY subplot about how all these years of fighting monstrosities has worn Mr. Redfield down. He needs to learn how to be a soldier once more, and Piers - a guy who I was initially suspicious of because he’s a pretty boy with nicely groomed hair, and those sorts are usually lame in Japanese video games - comes through as one of the most likable additions to Resident Evil lore in a long time to offer Chris much-needed support. The entire campaign might actually be better if played as Piers instead of Chris, especially due to a touching ending scene which is probably the one moment where the game’s plot transcends crazy horror action and enters the realm of something actually thought-provoking. Chris’ campaign, in general, is also where RE6 seems the most focused and confident, though the cover shooting mechanics are clunky when compared to titles that actually specialize in cover shooting, like Gears of War. Chris also doesn’t have Funky Zombie Porno Breakbeats for his ending music, so Leon gets a tiny point ahead of him in my book, but not by much.
Jake’s campaign - I’ve read a few reviews that call this campaign the “experimental” one, and...yeaaaaah, it is. Jake, who’s the son of former Resident Evil baddie Albert Wesker, was presumably designed to serve as a bold new protagonist for future games, but he’s kind of an emo douchebag, so I played through the entirety of his missions as his partner Sherry Birkin. Sherry’s the little girl from Resident Evil 2 all grown up, which I think is genius, because she serves as a tangible example of this franchise’s progression over the years. You could probably show her picture to anyone unfamiliar with Resident Evil and be like, “That’s a formerly 10-year-old side character from the second game grown up into a secret agent” and get a response of "Woah, cool,” so yeah, I like Sherry a lot. In fact, her presence made this whole campaign tolerable, because Jake is an edgelord and his missions run the confused gamut from shoot ‘em up sections to weird exploration bits that seem to want to channel the spirit of the old games but don’t succeed. Then there are the stealth and chase sequences against Ustanak, the “hulking Serbian mutation” that I mentioned a few paragraphs ago. This fellow was clearly created to remind Resident Evil veterans of Mr. X and Nemesis from RE2 and RE3, but while those guys would break down walls and pop outta nowhere to put a lump in your throat, Ustanak’s every impending arrival is advertised from a mile away, to the point where he’s not really frightening - just redundant. And the stealth bits against him seem like B-tier ripoffs of sequences in Metal Gear Solid, because RE6′s engine is really not engineered for sneakiness. At one point, Sherry and Jake have to hide in garbage dumpsters as Ustanak sniffs around, and that serves as an accurate representation of what large portions of their campaign are. These two kiddies do get a cheesy love ballad for their ending song, though, because the game really wants you to ship ‘em. Sherry, ya deserve better.
Ada’s campaign - As messy as Jake’s campaign is, however, it’s nothing compared to Ada’s, which was originally an unlockable extra in the original release of RE6 and designed to tie up loose story threads. It does do that, though the resulting plot - where Simmons got so obsessed with Ada Wong that he whipped up an entirely new virus to re-create her and then lost track of it - is pretty meh, though it could perhaps be an intriguing exploration of the depths of male entitlement in the hands of a better writer. Aside from these pieces of so-so story, Ada’s adventure offers aggravation in the form of bad level design and a truly horrid slew of Quicktime Events and wretched stealth sections, which, once again, this game just doesn’t do well. It opens with her investigating a sub filled with guards that she’s encouraged to sneak past, except you can’t really sneak in RE6 and eventually they all notice and decide to gangbang you, and then the sub floods and there’s dizzying shaky cam everywhere that made me feel sick. You’re given a minimal amount of seconds to succeed on the Quicktime Events to escape the rising floodwaters, and I felt like I was playing a game of Dragon’s Lair, where you need to press right or left immediately or risk seeing yourself die over and over again. That sums up the frustration of Ada’s campaign, which also made me realize one important thing - I really don’t find Ada Wong to be much of an interesting character. She’s little more than a walking femme fatale trope, and even people who insist on shipping her with Leon will probably have to admit that those two’s “relationship,” if you can even call it that, is little more than quick winks and five minute interactions that have amounted to nothing over the span of nearly twenty years. The pair of them get ONE good scene on a bridge in this game, but that’s it, and honestly, their cornball kiss near the end of RE2 is still a more genuine character interaction. Oh yeah, and on the topic of ending music, since I seem to be coming back to that a lot in this post, Ada gets generic filler tunes for her credit roll. How appropriate.
As you can see in the impressions above, in its own special way, Resident Evil 6 has something for everyone, ranging from a quality tale about battle-hardened men shooting biomutations to terrible levels that feel like they came out of a 2005 PS2 game that was quickly relegated to the bargain bin at Gamestop. Reviews were all over the place when this sucker came out, and still are today, with just as many people insisting that this game is the shit as there are people emphasizing that it is shit. My verdict? It’s BOTH, with some truly excellent parts and some truly abhorrent ones. It could have done with some trimming, for sure, and at the end of the day, Leon’s and Chris’ campaigns feel like the only real important ones here. A streamlined and likely better-received version of Resident Evil 6 would’ve only focused on those two guys - since one pivotal scene where the pair meet for a few minutes, briefly scuffle and POINT THEIR GUNS AT EACH OTHER YEAAA FAN SERVICE - seems to have been written first. That would’ve given Resident Evil 6 a better balance, with Leon’s missions possibly focusing on old school survival horror and pulp while Chris’ missions would lean hard on the military action stuff.
But we didn’t get that. Instead, what we got is a shambling whopper of a game - at times as unwieldy and ridiculous as the enemy bearing the same name, at other times just as satisfying as a real-life beef whopper. Resident Evil 6 is both good and bad, the video game equivalent of an excessive and expensive comic book crossover, and shit, I think I’ve just written the most about it than any of its predecessors.
That, at the very least, has to count for something.
All screenshots taken by me. For more, check out this Twitter thread showing my step-by-step progress through the game.

Rockman.EXE Episode 38 Review.
Tumblr media
And yet you always say bad things about Netto, you hypocrite!
Tumblr media
What’s strange is that Cutman has brothers.
We start the episode with... An old japanese film about samurais?
Tumblr media
Oh boy, we’re in for a good old dose of Japanese culture in this episode, aren’t we?
An old man talks for the two characters with Rockman portrayed as a Tsujigiri, which is a Japanese term for a practice that involves a samurai killing an inocent passer-by in a crossroad in order to try out a new sword. An evil samurai, I guess?
Rockman plays the part of the tsujigiri, strangely well.
Tumblr media
This was obviously cutted from the dub because only God knows if kids are stupid enough to try this at home.
The tsujigiri Rockman challenges the passerby who is non other than Cutman, they stare down at eachother until Rockman does the cowardly thing of throwing sand at Cutman’s face.
Tumblr media
Tsujigiri Rockman uses Sand Attack! Cutman’s accuracy fell.
This gives Rockman the opportunity to slash Cutman, but turns out it was all just a little play with paper cut outs, staged by an old looking Cutman for an audience of young Cutman looking Navis.
Tumblr media
Liar! That’s not how it went down!
Tumblr media
It was the Elec Brother Styled Rockman, in the Okuden dam computer with a Thunder Woody Tower! Where did you even get the Aqua Sword idea? Plus, Cutman wasn’t deleted, he clearly logged out.
Apperantly these are all Cutman’s relatives, the old cutman tells the young Cutmen that Rockman mercilessly deleted their older brother and they come to the conclusion that Rockman is evil and that he is gonna take over the world or something, I guess no one told them the Cutman was with Gospel for starters.
The Cutman brothers are all fired up and ready to avenge their brother, leaving their old Japanese styled home in pieces.
Tumblr media
We soon discover that the elder Cutman was working for Shadowman who is hoping to use Cutman’s little brothers to weaken Rockman.
Right after this we see that the Cutman brothers infiltraded Netto’s alarm clock, (because of couse it has internet conection) where they cut off the alarm. Netto is panicking over this because he was suppoused to get up early to meet up with his friends.
Tumblr media
Why does Meiru have three horns and Yaito only has one?
Netto is afraid that his friends will get mad at him for arriving late, and it seems his imagination isn’t far off because we then see Meiru and the others wearing yugioh eye liner.
Tumblr media
Yeah, this is another thing that was cutted from the dub, Dekao and Tohru do this little play where they put on a Netto mask quoting everything he said.
I guess it is an old form of Japanese theatre, but there are so many that I can’t tell which exactly. Through this they explain that they were all planning to go eat some special steamed meatbuns. What even is that?
Tumblr media
Oh, THOSE things. Aren’t they called dumplings?
These things are actually chinese, and that’s why they’re going to Densan city’s Chinatown district to get them, however, there is a reason why they had to wake up early.
Tumblr media
Meiru is talking about a little brown monster that is the mascot of japanese broadcasting service? O.O WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO HERE SUB?!
Netto stops at a public phone to plug-in Rockman so he can go ahead and tell them why he is late before he gets on the subway.
Tumblr media
You mean it would be 200 hours of tickling instead of 100?
Rockman is traveling though the network to Internet city’s Chinatown when the Cutman brothers do something that transports him to an old Japanese setting.
Tumblr media
“Unless Japan took over China at some point, I dont believe this is Internet City’s version of Chinatown.”
I’m no expert on Japanese history, but based on my research for this episode, I deduced that this setting is based off Japan during the Edo period since it was the period where the paper cutting art knowen as Kamikiri was born. Why am I saying this? Because Rockman is about to be attacked by a traditional paper cut out of a samurai.
Tumblr media
I like how the samurai cut out shifts as it runs, that’s a cool effect. Rockman takes out the samurai with his Rock Buster, but then is attacked by four ninja cut outs (I only took screenshots of three btw).
Tumblr media
Ahh, paper shurikens! They are worse than normal shurikens because they are made out of paper! Paper cuts!
Rockman manages to defeat the ninjas and finds out that they were all made of paper.
Tumblr media
They still believe that they are in Internet city’s chinatown so Rockman runs to find his friends thinking that they are in trouble.
Speaking of their friends, they are all at Chinatown where they discover that all the dumplings are sold out, so that means that the store is closed too. Since they are all starving, a creepy looking man appears and offers to take them to another restaurant.
Tumblr media
STRANGER DANGER!
We cut to the old Japan setting where a paper villager is hitting a paper bell and the other paper villagers begin to chase Rockman with paper lanterns. Paper!
Tumblr media
This scene reminds me of Inuyasha for some reason.
The villagers attack Rockman with explosive lanterns before we see the Cutman brothers at a japanese palace where they are making more paper cut outs.
Tumblr media
Why were these shots of them making the paper figures cutted out from the dub? This is pretty interesting, we even see fatty Cutman finish the giant paper fish that will attack Rockman in the next scene.
The moon hides behind the clouds as Rockman crosses a bridge, when the giant paper fish leaps out of the not paper water to attack him.
Tumblr media
Paper doesn’t dissolve in water in the cyberworld, but then again, Rockman’s buster sets it on fire .-.- Cyber physics!
I like the idea of Rockman having an ability to lock on to objects for shooting, no wonder his aim is perfect.
Soon after, the villagers attack Rockman with hooks, binding him with rope.
Tumblr media
Okay, NOW I’m reminded of Inuyasha.
Rockman is inmobilized, and just then, the palace gates in front of him open up to show what looks like his friends only for the moon to reappear and reveal that they are actually paper cut outs.
Tumblr media
Looks like the Cutman brothers did their homework on Rockman because they know the Navis he hangs out with AND their attacks.
Tumblr media
Netto, aren’t you paying attention?! He can’t move!
After comercials, Rockman pulls the villagers holding him to block the incoming attack.
Tumblr media
Nice aim, Rockman, you shot fake Iceman right in the mouth. XD
Tumblr media
That was Rockman’s pissed face.
Netto keeps him from seeking revenge by telling him that he can’t win with just his buster, so he decides to runaway from the palace.
The Cutman brothers don’t like this, so bangs cutman literally cuts the comunication between Rockman and Netto.
Tumblr media
How did he know which one to cut? What are those other cables for? How can he even do that? Why do I have so many questions for this episode?!
With Netto out of the way, the Cutman brothers proceed to attack Rockman on a giant paper dragon.
Tumblr media
I couldn’t help noticing that the Cutmen look flat as paper in these shots since they are riding the paper dragon. Can’t have 3D looking characters riding a 2D looking object in this 2D animated series.
We cut to Netto’s friends eating at the creepy stranger’s own ramen place that is actually named “The Worst Noodles”, where they complain about how bad the ramen is, yet they keep eating it with their Yugioh eyeliner on since they are still mad at Netto for being late.
Tumblr media
Yaito is rich, why haven’t she used her stupidly rich status to eat at the fancy chinese restaurant next door?! Because this is followed by Enzan leaving said chinese restaurant.
After critizicing the food he just ate, Enzan spots Netto’s friends eating at the ramen place and decides to casually walk in front of it.
Tumblr media
What were you planning to do? Insult Netto from behind just to say hi?
Netto finally arrives at the Chinatown district where he plugs into a public phone only to discover that Rockman is not in Internet city’s chinatown. With Rockman still under attack, Netto desperately runs around until he crashes into Enzan.
Tumblr media
Cutest miserable look I’ve ever seen. X)
Netto explained to Enzan what happend, they wonder where Rockman might be until super plot convinience kicks in.
Tumblr media
Say no more! Rockman is inside that computer, isn’t he?
They just so happend to hear these guys yell about their problem, so naturally, they decide to plug-in.
Blues appears from above to destroy the paper dragon with a Fire Sword.
Tumblr media
How can you mess up Blues’s hand color in the last panel?!
The Cutmen confront Blues, but Blues asks for an introduction before he reveals he was talking to a hidden Shadowman.
Tumblr media
Blues chases Shadowman away while Rockman reconnects with Netto to activate the Style Change.
Tumblr media
Rockman’s power overwhelms the Cutman brothers, meanwhile, Blues and Shadowman are having a chinese movie showdown on the rooftops that ends with Blues craking part of Shadowman’s helmet.
Tumblr media
Ouch! This forces Shadowman to retreat.
The Cutmen decide to use their ultimate attack against Rockman, but the Heat Guts style sends it back to them with full power.
Tumblr media
No, Netto, Rock-man breaks scissors. XD
Tumblr media
Rockman then power ups his fist to destroy the entire Japanese setting, revealing the real Chinatown version of Internet City. I have no idea how that worked.
Enzan and Netto leave the store where they encounter Netto’s friends who he then begs for mercy.
Tumblr media
And the episode ends with everyone laughing at Netto’s misfortune... In the dub.
THIS is how the episode really ends.
Tumblr media
The episode ends with the cut out puppet show announcing Rockman’s victory over the Cutman brothers, where after the curtains are pulled, eyebrows Cutman promises they will return, with the little cutman ending the episode.
I have no idea why was this skipped in the dub.
What do I think?
Just like the title, this episode was strange. They never explained why or how can Cutman have relatives. My theory is that they are all special navis that work at a specific area of the net, with one of the Cutmen going rogue and joining Gospel.
Cutman’s younger brothers all have names, eyebrows cutman is called Jiiro, bangs Cutman, who I first thought was a girl, is Saburo, the tall Cutman is Shiro, the fat one is Goro and the little one is Rokuro. The dub changed their names to Vinny, Sunny, Jerry, Joey and Nicky. XP
This episode was interesting since it presented old japanese culture references, starting off with the old samurai movie at the begining, and the whole paper puppet show that I’m sure has a name, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. The closest thing I found was called Kamikiri.
Kamikiri is an old form of entertainment that involves a person cutting a figure on paper in front of a live audience. This requires skills to create a figure anytime of anything that the audience can request, the paper figures can also be used as puppets to tell stories like in a shadow puppet show. Because the Cutmen are all about scissors, it’s no wonder  that they are masters in the art of kamikiri, making them “strangely strong” in this episode. By trapping Rockman inside their very own cyberworld where they can create living paper figures they had an advantage over him.
I also have to point out that the creepy ramen guy returns a couple of time in later seasons of the anime. And unfortunately, this isn’t the last time we see the Cutman brothers.

Daily Doodle 140 – September 3, 2018
I got Pixie into The Sims, and it’s true that the game is really addicting
But holy heck does the frustration not stop!
Today I got up and stayed on my phone for a bit browsing art, later getting up to get on my PC. I caught up real quick on storms happening just to reassure myself nothing was heading towards here yet
I then got ready to head to Pixie’s, making my way down without problems and then spending an hour just hanging out in the room. He started playing Spyro Dawn of the Dragon and I finally got to see the game in person too! I love Spyro’s big wings aaa!
An hour later, we left to a Subway to get sandwiches for both. Pixie also told me to get him a sub with everything, so they filled it with veggies and it’s a type of sandwich I always wanted to try. We then left home but had to drive by Pixie’s house multiple times as there was some “witnesses” outside and we tend to avoid them all the time. After driving by a few times, they moved on and we quickly parked to go inside and eat
I ate my sandwich and tasted Pixie’s, it was delicious but if I were to get it for myself, I’ll skip on the pickle and jalapeños but also get extra meat! It was pretty interesting, I gotta say
Anyways, we spent the rest of the noon with games. Now watching Pixie play Sims 4 since I gave it to him and he really liked the game! He made a sim based of one of his sonas and I made one based of my sona. He played for a while and I watched him the whole time until we left to get some groceries real quick
At the supermarket, we got another frozen pizza from DiGiorno but this time just being cheese cuz they didn’t have any supreme pizza. We got a few more things and headed home where Pixie played some more Sims 4.. That game is addicting for sure!
A while later, we made the pizza but didn’t really like it.. at least compared to the supreme one. This cheese pizza WAS a bit of an improvement over microwave one, but still not enough to justify the price..
Anyways, we were back at the room where we switched back to Spyro, Pixie getting VERY frustrated now with some extremely hard enemies as well as weird controls. Guess these games are naturally hard that way.. I did help guide Pixie though!
Some hours later, we cuddled for a while, having a tickle fight and almost hurting ourselves multiple times, aaa
We then got back to Sims 4 as it’s just so addicting, even just the base game. Pixie played all the way until late at night, I watched and it was so entertaining. I helped Pixie with a bunch of stuff but he was getting the hang of it!
It was now late and he quit the game, so we went out and kissed goodbye. I then left home and made it safely. I did had a tiny incident at home where I tried using my car’s e-brake instead of my front brakes cuz they’re noisy and I don’t like them squeaking all over the place at night.. But then I accidentally honked the horn while turning the wheel.. It’s always something.. Luckily nobody looked out to check, guess everyone was sleeping
Anyways, I then settled down at my PC and quickly got to writing the whole doodle. Then chatting with Pixie until he went to bed as per usual

Professor Kwon: Chapter I
Tumblr media
Genre: Teacher AU, Smut, Fluff, Angst.
Word Count: 1,768
Chapter: 1/?
Pairing: G-Dragon x Reader
Warnings: None...yet
“I hope your first day goes well darling. I wish I could be there to send you off,” my mother’s voice began to crack and I spoke quickly before her tears could progress any further.
“I know you do mom, but I’m an adult now. Just think of all the life skills I’ll be learning out here being all independent and self sufficient,” there was nothing like the threat of becoming an adult that calmed my mother down.
“Just promise me you’ll stay safe and you’ll make your father and I proud?”
I rolled my eyes slightly as I observed my outfit in my full length mirror. Don’t get me wrong, my mother was a lovely woman. However, her friendliness often had an ulterior motive. In this case, her ulterior motive was encouraging success at my new school.
“I promise mom. I promise I’ll be fine and I’ll make you proud. Now I have to go, I’ll text you when I get home later,” I tried to cut the call quickly.
“Oh before you go, did you get the money we sent you alright?”
“Yes mom,” I sighed, it was so awkward constantly being reminded of my financial dependence on my parents. “Now I really need to go. Love you.”
“I love you Y/N. Good luck!” she exclaimed and I hung up immediately afterwards.
With a sigh I grabbed my jean jacket off the edge of bed, slipping it on as I silently cursed my mom for reminding me of the looming cloud of success. As if it wasn’t pressure enough attending one of the most prestigious schools in Korea, my parents would now be breathing down my neck until they receive news of my first A grade. Which I wasn’t even confident would happen. Sure I achieved exemplary marks in high school but university is a whole other story.
“Y/N, are you ready to go ye-” my roommate Ji Soo yelled, her voice rapidly approaching until I saw her leaning on my bedroom door frame. “Well look at you. What are you planning to do, seduce your old, wrinkly teachers from day one?”
Immediately, my eyes shot open in her direction before switching back to my appearance in the mirror. I panicked and tugged at my skirt, suddenly wishing I had chosen a school with a uniform.
“Are you serious? Is my outfit really that sexy? I need to cha-” before I could finish, I was cut off by a hand clamping over my mouth.
“Calm down. I’m only joking, you look completely studious. Besides, we don’t have time for you to change. Unless you want to be late,” she took her hand off my mouth and sauntered out of the room, once again leaving me in a panic.
I swiftly grabbed my bookbag before running out of my room and toward the front door to put on my shoes. As I ran down the hall of my apartment, I caught up with Ji Soo and linked arms with her.
“You know, you’re going to have to work on that time management. I may not be going to some fancy school but I have places to be too,” Ji Soo scolded me.
“I know, I know. Blame my mom this time, she’s the one who kept me on the phone while she tried to ‘let me go’ even though I’m in already in another city,” I sighed.
“That’s okay, just make sure there isn’t a next time. Or else I’ll have to abandon you little one,” she ruffled up my hair as we made our way to the subway station.
Ji Soo was my cousin and despite her being four years my senior as well as living in another city, we had always remained as close as siblings. When the opportunity came up for me to live in Seoul, my mother had opposed, knowing she didn’t have the money for the whole family to move there. However, the moment my cousin offered to take me in, the words of approval couldn’t fall out of my mother’s mouth any sooner.
“Don’t worry about your mom,” Ji Soo intruded on my thoughts as we made our way to our separate destinations. “She’s worrying now but once she sees just how grown up you are she’ll leave you alone. Trust me, that’s what happened with my parents”.
“Thanks Ji Soo. It’s just that she’s really not making the pressure of this school any easier on me. I was completely relaxed about this first day but now my mom has me stressing over nothing”.
“Take out your phone,” Ji Soo demanded.
“Why?”
“Just take it out. I’m gonna show you what helped calm me down on my first day of university,” I handed her my phone as well as my trust. “New experiences are less scary when you know what to expect, right?”
I nodded gently, willing her to continue.
“Well there’s this website that you can look at and it has almost all of the professors in Seoul in its database. It normally includes their photo, name, basic information, as well as ratings and comments from other students,” she explained.”Do you have a timetable?”
“Yeah, let me just get it out,” after digging through my bag, I retrieved the sheet of paper which contained all of professor’s names.
Sure enough, each search brought up my professors. Most of the reviews were positive - which put me at ease - but as for their photos, it was exactly what I’d expect, old, wrinkly men and women. However, one professor was a mystery, mostly due to the fact that he did not have a photo.
“Professor Kwon, 29 years of age, studied literature...sounds promising but there’s no photo,” I pouted.
“Let’s look at the comments then,” Ji Soo suggested before scrolling down to a slew of positive reviews. “Never have I ever laid eyes on such a gorgeous teacher in my life”.
Ji Soo and I locked eyes filled with confusion before continuing to read the anonymous comment.
“Not to mention, his fashion sense is beyond any of the boys I’ve ever dated. He’s so dreamy, I could barely pay attention in class! But aside from that, I wanted to pay attention because much like him, his teaching style was impeccable. Seriously, where did they find this man and how much are they paying him?”
“Let me see that!” I exclaimed, snatching the phone from my cousin’s hand to scroll through the rest of the comments. Only to discover, they were all so similar. “So from what I gather, he’s gorgeous and the ideal teacher. That’s good right?”
“Yeah, that’s true but maybe you should have changed into something more promiscuous. Don’t want to miss this chance would you?”
Just as I went to smack Ji Soo’s arm for saying such a thing, she was out of my reach and headed for the door of the train.
“Have a good day Y/N!” She called as she disappeared out the door.
I rolled my eyes at her before looking back down at the screen in my hand.
There’s no way he’s that attractive, right? These students must be over exaggerating after years of having to deal with stuffy, old teachers. I tried to reason with myself, as what was meant to be a method of calming me down for the unexpected had only made the unexpected much more unknown.
Just as the turmoil began to set in, the train came to a stop as the automated voice called out my destination. Quickly, I snapped out of it and grabbed my bag before prancing out the door and onto the platform.
It didn’t take me long to navigate my way around campus as I had already been here a handful of times for registration and orientation. As the day wore on, I found comfort in the fact that I didn’t have to deal with the enigmatic Professor Kwon until my last class of the day. Each class before then was much like I expected, an introduction to the elderly professors as well as their backgrounds in education, followed by an overview of the course outline, and a quick lecture.
The day went by so routinely that the time seemed to slip like sand between my unwilling fingers. Before I knew it, I was standing in front of room 314, Professor Kwon’s Literature class. With a heavy sigh I entered the room, keeping my head locked down until I managed to find a decent seat somewhere in the centre of the room.
“Are you seeing this? Can you believe your eyes?” a girl to the left of me spoke as I proceeded to retrieve my textbooks from the canvas backpack.
“He’s really as handsome as they say he is. How on earth am I going to concentrate with a God standing before me!” I chuckled to myself as another girl quipped in response.
A God? Now they’re definitely exaggerating! I thought to myself as I finally raised my head to judge for myself. Only to have all of my self reassurance shattered by the man standing at the front of the room. My mouth fell open as my eyes followed each detail of his face, as if I were trying to comprehend a complex work of art. His black hair fell gently upon the sides of his cheeks in the most carefully crafted middle part I had ever seen, his plump lips appeared to be a subtle hue of pink, and his eyes held an almost seductive quality, one that had no place in a classroom but was so natural it was sure to be unintentional. He wore a dark blue turtleneck, paired with a casual black suit that was littered with tiny white dots. The reviews were right, he was gorgeous.
“Everyone settled?” Professor Kwon finally spoke, offering the most gentle voice to accompany such a gentle face. “I’m Professor Kwon, I’ll be teaching you Introduction to Literary Study. There’s not much to say about myself but I’m sure we’ll all get to know each other as we get further into the semester”.
An involuntary shiver shocked my spine as his words entered my ears and danced along my nerves. From the second I laid eyes on him I was taken aback by his sheer beauty and from that moment on the pressure to succeed increased tenfold. Not just because I would need to work harder to even pay attention in that class, but because there was no way I would allow someone this beautiful to see my work as sub par.

Growing Inclination Towards Renewable Energy Sources to Proliferate Global Solar Street Lighting Market 2025
Solar street light (SSL) are extensively being used for outdoor street lighting as their primary source of energy is solar power. With no dependence on conventional sources of energy, these lighting mediums operated on stand-alone mode, eliminating the need for a general grid of any power requirements. The standalone solar photovoltaic street lighting system comprises of a re-chargeable lead acid battery for storage, PV (photovoltaic) modules for charging the battery, light source (compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), and light emitting diodes (LED), suitable electronics for the operation of the tamp, and safe charging and discharging of the battery and mechanical hardware for fixing these sub systems.
The key advantage of these lighting systems is that they available either with automatic dusk to dawn operation or with a pre-set timer. Tubular batteries provided with the solar street lighting systems require exceptionally low maintenance and are known to have a long life. In light of these advantages, the global solar street lighting market is likely to be worth US$22.30 bn by the end of 2025 from US$3.47 bn in 2016. During the forecast period of 2017 and 2025, the global solar street lighting market is expected to progress at a CAGR of 23.4%.

A Week in Seattle and Surrounding National Parks
Our drive into Seattle was one of our longest days on the road.  The trip from Glacier National park to our Airbnb was 530 miles and took us all day.  We were tired and just wanted a quick meal so we went to a Subway to split a veggie sub.  The doors were locked but the place was clearly still open so I gave a firm couple of knocks and waited a few minutes.  After a while a greasy man unapologetically opened the door while pointing to the open sign, which apparently was not lit up.  As we entered he said, “I heard you knocking and was squeezing very hard”.  Sylvie and I looked at each other and without a word knew the other’s thoughts.  Let’s get the fuck out of here!  We found another Subway 5 minutes away, but our Chagrin the price was even higher.  Can you believe we paid $8.50 for a sub with only veggies on it?  No meat, not cheese, no tofu, just the normal fixings.  At least we weren’t overly concerned about getting E. Coli!
2 Days in Seattle
Although we typically shy away from large tourist attractions our first day in Seattle actually took us through the top 3 attractions in Seattle—Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the Ballard Locks.  During our next day we walked around Pike and Pine street in the Capitol Hill Neighborhood, International District, and 5th Avenue.
Pike Place Market:
After shopping around for reasonably priced parking we settled on a garage charging $18 for 10 hours.  We made sure to get to the market early because we had read it can get packed.  We walked the multitude of layers of the market as various vendors set up for the day.  We were a bit disappointed by the market itself.  There were only a handful of produce vendors and their food was grossly overpriced.  I couldn’t help but compare it to Reading Terminal, an enormous market I visited often in Philadelphia.  I found that Pike Place Market came up short in almost every comparison.  It had far fewer food venders and the ones they did have were less unique.  It’s clear that Pike Place Market exists solely for tourists and a local would never be caught dead in that place.  Who in their right mind would pay $9.99 for a single dragon fruit?  No thank you!
The Space Needle:
We spent the day walking through several popular neighborhoods.  The Space Needle was in our path so we took a glance.  We took a few seconds craning our heads and then moved onwards.  I guess that’s another box we can check off on some arbitrary list?
Fremont and Ballard Locks:
We walked various hilly streets in Queen Ann admiring the various houses.  I was shocked to see boarded up and condemned buildings immediately next to multi-million dollar modern homes.  After a few miles we crossed over the Fremont Bridge, where Google had a local campus, and walked into the Fremont neighborhood.  Fremont is a small hip area that consisted of a few streets filled with brew houses, ethnic food, and cafes.  We walked onwards for another couple miles until we reached the Ballard Locks.
Ballard Locks:  “Officially known as the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, the Ballard Locks is one of Seattle’s most popular tourist attractions, especially during the sunny months. The grounds also feature a fish ladder and the Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden — one of the most beautiful park settings in Seattle”. Read more about the locks here!
In a shared Uber we took back in the direction of our car we talked with another passenger and she provided us with some advice for the city along with call out to a vegan ice-cream parlor called Frankie & Jo’s.  We checked it out prior to walking back to our car and tasted the Golden Milk and the Chocolate Date flavors.  Frankie and Jo’s was generous and let us taste many of their flavors.  They tasted pretty good considering they use coconut milk, but I prefer ice-cream made with real milk. Frankie and Jo’s is located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
We hightailed it back to our car with 1 minute to spare before our $18 parking charge increased to $25.  For our first day in Seattle we walked over 30k steps and logged more than 10 miles.  We were left mostly unimpressed by the central downtown areas and decided to concentrate our next day in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
Capitol Hill – Pike/Pine Streets
We started our second day in this university left-leaning neighborhood.  Gay pride flags, tattoo parlors, hip cafes, and even a Trader Joe’s make Capitol Hill a fun liberal area to pass some time.  We ventured into a large bookstore called Elliot Bay, but I thought it smelled like dirty cat litter so I didn’t stay too long.  Sylvie thinks it was just the smell of books.  Wooden electricity/phone poles were decorated 8 feet tall in flyers and pamphlets—most were monotone and slightly gothic in feeling.  I’ve noticed that many people here in Seattle wear very muted colors.  Black is definitely the most popular, but grey doesn’t fall too far behind.  Grudge is alive and well here in Seattle.  Although everyone we met was very kind I found that most people in the streets seemed very serious.  This is in stark contrast to our recent experience walking through the small towns in Wyoming and Montana.  It may just be that we haven’t been in a large city for a while but even Denver felt more ‘bubbly’ that here.
Seattle had quite a few game stores that sold board games and let people play while eating cheap pub food and brews.  Many bars and cafes had pinballs machines set up for customers to play for a small fee.  There were so many that it makes me think that Seattle’s history is somehow connected to pinball games.  Did I mention that Seattle has a pinball museum that consists of dozens of machines spanning a multitude of decades?  $15 for all you can play per person was just too steep for our budget-conscience pockets.
5th Ave & Chinatown-International District
We happened to stumble onto 5th Ave, which is a key shopping area in downtown Seattle.  We were almost trampled by commuters, a stampede only matched by those found in Manhattan.  We exited this area as quickly as we found it.
Before long we made our way to the Chinatown/International District, a Neighborhood hosting many of Seattle’s Asian communities.  We stopped into a large indoor Asian grocery called Uwajimaya and walked around for a little.  There were half a dozen food stands lining the entrance to the grocer.  Sylvie and I have been a bit spoiled when it comes to Asian markets—we’ve been to some of the largest ones in the world.  Considering Seattle’s closer proximity to Asia I had higher expectations for Chinatown—granted we didn’t spend too much time wandering around.  I was a bit shocked on how modern and Americanized many of the establishments were.  What I value a Chinatown is the authenticity of the food and overall atmosphere.  I imagine the Asian communities in Seattle have done well for themselves and it does show.  If you hoping for the grit-filled streets you would uncover in Manhattan’s Chinatown, then you’ve come to the wrong place.  We have been extremely spoiled living in Philadelphia with the enormous Chinese and Vietnamese communities so places take these comments with a grain of salt.
1 Day in Mount Rainier National Park
We enjoyed a great quick loop hike along the Skyline Trail Loop, which is located in the main south side hub park. This are is called Paradise and is the most impressive part of the park. The first part of the hike was paved but as we gained altitude the trail got a little rockier.  The hike was better than average and we enjoyed our time and our great views of Mount Rainier during autumn.
Give yourself a day to travel from the Seattle area to Olympic National Park if you plan to set up camp in the evening!
2 Days in Olympic National Park
We found a free campsite near a logging road west of Olympic National Park (about 2 hours west of Port Angeles). The campsite is located off of Swan Bay and is a primitive site with 1 fire pit. You may be able to set a couple tents on the site but probably only one vehicle. Here is the camping information.
We watched sunset at a small boat dock down the road and crossed paths with two other long-term travelers.  The young couple had been on the road for 3 months so far and still had another 2 months.  The guy had spent several months gutting and rebuilding the inside of a van for the trip.  He showed us everything he had done.  He added insulation to the new wood ceiling and floor along with a gas stove, refrigerator, and faucet with a 28-gallon reservoir.  Wooden cabinetry lined the van and a bed resided in the rear.  It was all powered by 3 solar panels affixed to the van’s roof.  Not too bad for a house that also gets 20 mpg. The next day we drove a short distance to hike a 9-mile loop known as Ozette Triangle Trail (it’s also known at the Cape Alava Loop).  The first and last 3 miles were through a thick rainforest, while the middle portion of the hike took us right up to the Pacific Ocean.  The 3 miles along the coast was definitely the most beautiful scenery I’ve seen in the United States so far.  We managed to make it to the ocean during low tide so we got to witness a craggy and kelp-ridden shore.  Upon walking down to the water’s edge I could actually hear the billions of flies consuming the kelp.  It was like a scene from a Hitchcock movie.  We met up with two older hikers, Dick and Mike.  We enjoyed a leisurely stroll for several hours as we learned more about these 70-year-old outdoorsmen.  They talked about their childhood adventures on the very same beach and how it has become a bit more touristy over the years, however still remaining largely untouched.  They pointed out how lucky we were to see the coast at low tide and that during high tide navigating over the terrain was much more challenging.  Dick picked up various sea specimens and educated us.  We talked about his travels which were quite impressive.  He worked in a small Maasai village conducting oral surgeries for a month.  He talked about his upcoming travel plans to sail the Dalmatian Islands for 3 weeks.  Mike reminisced about his time working for the parks department during his college summers.  Do yourself a favor and hike the Ozette Triangle, it may be the pretties and most unique hike an American National Park has to offer.
After the hike we drove to Cape Flattery and hike a short while to watch sunset over the ocean. There were numerous picnic tables and designated areas to sit down and we enjoyed a warm meal for our sunset.
The next day we hiked up to Hurricane Ridge but were moderately disappointed.  The view was average and the hike was relatively boring.  Many sources state, “If you only have 1 day at Olympic National Park you need to hike to Hurricane Ridge”.  I disagree, if you only have 1 day go do the Cape Alava Loop (Ozette Triangle) Trail.

Chiang Mai & Bangkok, Thailand
Thailand: Part 1
Nov 8 - 12
It was cheapest for us to take a flight from Da Lat to Bangkok, so that’s what we did. We left ourselves the afternoon before catching an overnight bus north to Chiang Mai, intending to do a little exploring while we had a ‘layover’ in Bangkok. Turns out the only exploring we would be doing was of the airport food courts (Brit and I found a Subway and I literally screamed. A turkey sub never tasted so good). After killing the afternoon at the airport we set out to catch a city bus to the bus station. The traffic was exponentially more than we could have imagined, both pedestrian and on the roads. We struggled for a while to figure out which bus to take (and which direction to take that bus) until finally a sweet, semi-English speaking Thai man approached us and helped us identify the bus route we wanted. After thanking him and parting ways, he caught up to us (literally ran) to tell us he made a mistake, and we actually should be taking a bus in the other direction. Just another instance of how genuinely kind and good people can be (and people in Asia are). That continued on to the bus driver who signed/motioned to communicate with us and even told us when it was our stop (even though he understood little & spoke no English). The traffic seriously almost screwed us though, and that wouldn’t be the last time we almost missed a bus because of Bangkok traffic.
*also feel its worthwhile to describe this public transit for you: picture a school bus from the 70s, with the same 50-year-old interior, people smoking and 90% humidity and the windows don’t really open anymore because they’re so worn down. As I’m typing this I’m really hoping I took a picture or video to do this baby justice.
Fast-forward to waking up in Chiang Mai after another 8-hour overnight bus ride. This time they were much more luxurious, complete with our own private(ish) area, touch screens with movies (in Thai only), USB charger ports, free water and snacks, and massage chairs(!!!!). Paige and I had an unfortunate run-in with the male cleaner of the women’s bathroom who yelled at us in Thai for something… we still haven’t quite figured out what it was. We arrived at our hostel early in the morning, as usual, too early for check-in. So we threw our bags in the storage area and headed for the nearest cafe where we indulged in overpriced western breakfast and iced coffees. After heading back & checking in, we decided to book a cooking class for that night and optimistically decided to hit up the 3D art museum, which was incredibly dorky and right up our alley. We spent all of our 3 hours there and had to rush back to make it in time for our cooking class pick-up, which ended up being late, of course.
Even though it started raining, we had a good time exploring a farmer’s market and getting a small lesson from our lovely guide. We bought a few things to try and packed up into the van for the last trek to the farm where our class was held. It was a beautiful big, airy location and as soon as we got settled in the sky opened up and started pouring on the tin roof above us. To say we couldn’t hear anything wouldn’t be exactly accurate because the sound of the rain on the roof was deafening. We all just started laughing because it basically stopped the lesson in its tracks. Luckily mother nature took a little pity on us and the rest of the evening was incredible. I learned how to make spring rolls, pad thai, hot and sour soup, curry paste and Panang curry, and got to take home the full cookbook courtesy of our lovely hosts.
The next few days were spent lazing by the pool, laying around and laughing at our own stupid jokes, and exploring the night markets around town. (Which pretty much sums up a good chunk of our trip behaviour).  Another memorable moment from Chiang Mai was visiting the Golden Temple, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. There really are no words that would capture the beauty that was the golden temple. I cried silently and steadily the whole time we were there because it truly was the most stunning, spiritual, enchanting man-made creation I’ve ever seen. I’ll have to let the pictures try and speak for themselves, though they could never give it full justice.
The pinnacle of Chiang Mai and one of my peaks from our entire trip was the day we spent at Happy Elephant Sanctuary. After arriving late (our shuttle was late - this is also a common theme to our trip), we ate a quick lunch and changed into traditional Karen clothing, then followed the trainer out to cut sugar cane to give to the elephants. We were literally cutting it with machetes, which weren’t very sharp, and were doing a horrible job at it. It was also quite exhausting and our trainers laughed and ultimately cut enough to go around. Then came the elephants. Ohhh those sweet, magnificent, gentle, giant, mesmerizing creatures. I cried, pretty much the whole time (again - common theme here). I was completely elated and entranced by these amazing beings, feeding them sugar cane and bananas, walking with them, watching them bathe and play with each other in the mud (that’s how they stay cool in the hot sun). We even got to walk with the elephants down to the river and swim with them (while dodging their huge chunks of poo which casually float downstream beside you… joy). I was so sad to leave the incredible landscape and those incredible beings. This particular sanctuary was a rescue home for elephants who have been abused, unwanted, or treated improperly. We saw far too many riding camps (humans riding on the backs of elephants) and ‘homes for elephants’, designed for tourists, that really do not consider the integrity and well being of these creatures and ultimately harm them. Please do not support these types of organizations, and tell anyone you know the same.
While originally we intended on traveling around in the north, we ended up staying in Chiang Mai for about a week. Maybe the fatigue of moving around so often and frequently was catching up to us, or maybe we just loved Chiang Mai. Probably a little of both. But back to Bangkok we went, where we arrived before check-in (again) and our gracious host let us crash on an “extra bed” they had set up in a common area. The joke was on us when we crashed on said bed only to realize it was a box spring with a carpet covering it. Like the good (exhausted) travelers we were, we all slept for a solid few hours.
We spent the next few days exploring the city. I wish that was actually true. The full part of that is we spent the next few days exploring the cities best and many shopping malls. Oh my lord was I in shopping heaven in Bangkok. We spent literally three full days at different malls, missing the sunset each night, store after store and subway car after gigantic mall. It’s kind of all a blur but I really have no regrets about it. God I love to shop. The other super fun thing we did was visit the Dinosaur Park, which was essentially just a Jurrasic Park knock off without paying for the rights. It was cheesy and had dinosaurs that moved and a ferris wheel, and a maze where a man dressed in a raptor suit chases you around. Standard. 😂
I do wish we had given ourselves more time in the city as we didn’t end up seeing very much of it outside the (beautiful) concrete structures we found ourselves in. We did venture to a beautiful park on our last day, Burger King and Mr. Sub in hand (perks of the big city), and found ourselves a bench with a scenic view over the park. Brittany screamed when she saw these giant lizard/komodo dragon/alligator things. I can’t actually remember what they were but they were freaky but also kinda cute, and all over the place. It’s moments like this where I remember feeling kind of at home, having this sense of warmth and comfort with the familiarity that all this traveling brought. Being familiar and comfortable with the new and unknown. There’s so much beauty in that.
Anyways I’ve rambled enough about the first two weeks into our Thailand trip. The next week and a half were filled with beaches, islands, more beaches, and the best birthday I’ve ever had. Stay tuned.
Xoxo

Zàyera City (Citè du Zàyera)
Zàyera City is the largest city on North Zàyera Island. It is the most pivotal city where just about anyone is welcome whether they are an Earth-native, a Zeraithe, or an extraterrestrial from another world. There are many prominent people and locales that reside in the City of Dragons. The city primarily consists of three major neighborhoods: the North City Development, City Center/Downtown, and the South City Expansion.
The North City Development is what can be described as groups of housing projects that have since been blighted. The City has since moved to condemn these blights, but there are residents who call these dilapidated structures home. It is a prime location for felonious crime.
Still within the NCD, the medical pride of the island was first built as a complex on the highway route leading out to Èiyaure County. Over the years since the 1940s the Zàyera Medical Complex was the central point for local medical research. Gradually, the older, outdated medical center was shuttered. However, one building stands out among the derelict complex: the Zàyera Institute for Children’s Mental Health—simply, CMH.
Children’s Mental Health is not an insane asylum for mentally ill children, rather it is a research observatory. Patients are received on a temporal basis for up to 14 days as allowed by state law—for special cases, 21 days. Two most prominent people have been patients at the facility. The previous Prince Zàichad Èiyaurëc and previous Blaize fortune heir Dràzden Auèserëc have been under the observation of renown psychologist Dr. William Raymond. Dr. Raymond of British descent had come to Zàyera to study the mental capacities of Zeraithe people, particularly the children. The CMH would just be another nameless building if it had not been for the orphan scandal it has suffered.
In the 1970s, the young Dr. Raymond had a hand in taking orphans from the nearby Celestic Gardens Orphanage. Within CMH, the basement (and sub-basement), seventh floor, and eighth floor were off limits to all staff except Dr. Raymond and his team. On those floors are machines and laboratories that specifically targeted forced mind alteration. It happens that children’s curiosities would start the evil ball rolling and the “wizard behind the curtain” is revealed.
This in turn leads to Celestic Gardens Orphanage in the NCD. The orphanage is a city-run facility for children up to 18 years old. The director of the orphanage was Griselda Gerard. Of course, in the 1970s and ‘80s lax oversight was apparent as Ms. Gerard ran the place like a fortress. Within, the teenage orphans ruled asserted their dominance over the younger children. Outstanding residents of the orphanage are Romayne Trevelyan, Sean Farrell, and Drake Cassidy. A few points about Ms. Gerard is that she was heavily vested in the occult and drugs to even worry about those she in charged to protect. Even the toughest of orphans cower in her presence when she is enraged. Years after her reign, Romayne, Sean, Drake, and other orphans lose their will to fight against her ingrained power, often reverting into a sense of subservience. A side note is that no orphans at Celestic Gardens are Zeraithes.
South of the North City Development is the City Center and Downtown. Wealth seems to grow as one drives from north to south. Herein are buildings of increasing height and multitudes of mirrored glass. Only one of these immense towers dominates the other market-seeking offices: Blaize Corporation Tower. Blaize Tower, for short, is the commercial stronghold of the nation’s most wealthy individual, Dràzden. He is the brute rival of the royal King Zàichad. Speaking of royalty, the majestic Zàyera Castle lies low among tall giants. It is a fantastical marvel that invokes the stylistic approach of fairytale castles rather than practical defense. It’s youthful, unblemished splendor is wasted as no sitting king or queen has seated there since the 1200s AD. The audience room is littered with modern, brown cardboard boxes of many sizes as if it were a lowly storage closet. The castle is unique in that it is fully constructed from materials imported from planet Zerài, the Zeraithe homeworld—no Earth-based cannon fire or ballistic missile can scratch Grand Zàyera.
Leaving finance and government while still downtown, there is entertainment. Plaize Khèntrico is a high-end outdoor mall situated around none other than Blaize Tower. While the plaza hosts expensive doodads at elegant boutiques, it also hosts extravagant bars and nightclubs that cater to just about every taste—there is entertainment for straight-seeking individual as well as those catering to the LGBT community. By LGBT, there is something for Tali Rathàniel, Dràzden’s business partner and best friend, to self acquaint himself with. Along with entertainment, there is sport. That is where the L’Aquila Dome comes in. The national sport of Zàyera is Luche! La Luche da la Championades de le Mond or Luche or LCM for short is hosted by Zàichad himself at the L’Aquila Dome. It is the most televised sport in the country, or else! The sport can be seen as a form of professional wrestling which includes its own brand of kayfabe.
Downtown cannot be fully witnessed if one were not to be educated. The scholarly Academie Auränd, simply known as Auränd Academy, has its campus a few blocks from the L’Aquila Dome. The school is situated in the Zàyera City School District; it is a public school without tuition. It is comprised of buildings for an elementary, a junior high, and a high school. The school still maintains its boarding houses, but it no longer boards students. Surrounding the mandatory school site is the Auränd State University at L’Aquila. University research comprises of Zeraithe studies in their magic system as well as their biology. By law, only ASU-LA can maintain such endeavor. One last thing is that ALL Zeraithes must take the Academy Exam even if they school elsewhere; if they do well, they get their name chiseled on the alumni wall at Main. To date, neither Zàichad nor Dràzden have attempted the exam, presumably their associates also.
As was said, the further south one goes, the more opulent the neighborhoods. The streets of the South City Expansion begin to line with large, needless living spaces. Well groomed lawns and parks mix in with classic hanging lantern shaped street lights. The Hill family residence is located in this neighborhood. Both Dane Hill and Kevin Hill made money off of their differing inventive ideologies. Kevin relies on genetic research, whereas Dane favors practical and useful tools. The Hills are both “unnatural” prodigies possessing superior intellect. Some other residents of the SCE are Zydanon O’Rourke and Wyzaron de Cerdaña both inheritors of separate family estates. The powerful women of Zàyera can’t go without saying Anastasia Remington’s name. Her family made their gold with the exploitation of alien artifacts.
In the SCE among the mansions and overly dressed convenience boutiques sits the Zàyera Center for the Gifted Intellect of Man. The CGIM is a place where Earth-native intellects can gather and share their insights of gifted knowledge. The building is distinguished by its cubic, neo-modern design in bright white; it is tucked away behind the mansions and gardens, seeking to be hidden from prying eyes. They do not allow extraterrestrials, including Zeraithes.
The city is not static with just its outstanding sights. Its people must be able to get around town and out of it. The city boasts a robust and reliable public bus system that runs just about every corner of the county as well as commuter end-of-lines at Èiyaure City and Auèsere City in their respective counties. Differently to the likes of New York City and Tokyo, taxi service is publicly owned and run in cooperation by the county and city government. The vehicles can go just about anywhere that the bus routes don’t allow. Of course, there is no law or ordinance prohibiting car ownership. A multi-lane freeway glides through the city as part of its journey to South Zàyera Island. The freeway also services the six other counties before crossing over the Ren Zàyera Bridge to Italy state. A little tidbit about the freeway is that it intentionally misses the other county seats in order to preserve their small town quaintness.
Rail, especially light rail is huge in Zàyera City. The city prefers light rail to metros or subways. The many lines criss-cross the city to provide expedited service to major transit hubs near big name sites such as Plaize Khèntrico, Celestic Gardens, Manior Roidane, and points in between. Expensively, the light rail was expanded to Èiyaure City (Èiyaure Line and Z-Line) and Auèsere City (Auèsere Line and D-Line). Both Zàichad and Dràzden had to provide private financing to the outlying lines. Freight and commuter rail run near the freeway to provide rail access to and from the island. The bridge to Italy contains a set of two way rails run between the car route.
Flight service is provided by Zàyera City International Airport in Khètzade County on South Zàyera Island. The city’s growth is ever flowing through to the southern island. Flights arrive from and depart to national destinations such as Rome, Paris, or Madrid to international ones such as New York City, Moscow, Cairo, or Tokyo. In 2001, both Auèsere County and Èiyaure County have become “No Fly Zones.”
Boat and ship service are also prevalent for an island environment. The city maintains commercial docks along its western seaboard up until they are zoned for recreational boats around the SCE. However, travel to and from Malta Island Research Center is restricted to special docking stations at government reserved docks located ONLY in Zàyera City. Departing from any other dock around the island for Malta is a crime against the royalty. Malta Island is similar to the hush-hush of United States’ Area 51; it is heavily guarded.
In 2002, the city opened its first spaceport in Khètzade County. Authorized personnel from the Galactic Federation use the spaceport to safely land their smaller scouting craft to deliver guests and trade materials. Earth-natives may enter the spaceport and the landing zone areas, however, they are not permitted to board a chartered (departing) craft. They may tour such crafts, but only if the craft’s owners allow it. Permission to land must be granted for hostile craft by order of the King of Zàyera (Zàichad) only; further, Earth-natives must be evacuated from the premises prior to landing.
Law enforcement is provided by the Zàyera City Police Department. Ironically, there are Dragon Thieves that head up some of the local precincts. These “thieves” are only known because their name marks them as an ancestral line of the old world thieves. The judiciary goes for a few courts before it reaches the Cèduai—the Thieves’ Court (as opposed to the Royal Court of Law under former King Fèrelon Zàyeralt). Law and ordinance creation is by elected city committee, then contested or approved by the King of Zàyera by option (doesn’t matter if it were Fèrelon at the time or Zàichad currently).
