While waiting for Jimi Hendrix to come on stage on the morning of 18 August 1969 the Woodstock audience probably weren't expecting a 1950's covers band. The original line-up of Sha Na Na here perform the 1958 song Book of Love and 1961's Duke of Earl. Some of the audience reaction shots are priceless.
The three singers in gold lamé outfits (Robert Leonard, Dennis Greene and Scott Powell at the time of Woodstock) were a signature part of their act up until the early 80's. The outfits here came from a production of the musical Bye Bye Birdie where one is worn by a character not too far removed from Elvis Presley (who wore a gold lamé tuxedo on a 1959 album cover).
Man “Battle Nexus: New York” was a great episode but I do have one major gripe with it.
Like. Raph being paired up with Ghostbear? Makes sense. Works great. Works amazing, even.
Mikey being paired up with Meatsweats? Yeah that checks out!!
Donnie getting…Hypno…? I mean. I guess Donnie doesn’t like magic so it kindaaa works but Kendra would have been a much better choice to me personally. Maybe Big Mama didn’t wanna include a human or something…
And Leo getting…uh…one of the Sando Brothers???? Of all villains? Nah let’s be real, his main villain is more Big Mama herself (or Leo could be considered his own worst enemy lmao-). Hell Hypno would have probably worked better here considering their shared love for magic tricks and stuff, but Carl Sando????
I just noticed in Battle Nexus: New York, when Draxum was trying to convince the co. that they were trapped in a mind-illusion he asked where the turtles were: the colors of Leo and Donnie were switched. He mistook the twins' colors, that's hilarious!
nononono why did you make this why did you combine both of my biggest hyperfixations
why did you combine rottmnt and genshin impact
i am not joking that i teared up a little just by how overwhelmed i was (but in a good way)
i dont know what to say genuinely I dont know how to react??? thank you??? your art is so beautiful??? and detailed??? you're an inspiration??? please keep making more???
i have never felt more emotions thank you
dfjklsdjfkldkfj thank you so muchhhh!!! 😭😭😭 omg this is so nice! i'm having a lot of fun with this crossover so i'm very glad it made you happy :)
i've got more planned for it, i know i at least wanna try and finish designs for the four of them and i've had donnie and leo's designs in progress for a while now (i actually started both of them before mikey's, but mike's was the first one i finalized. favorite boy privileges and all that 🧡), but i needa redesign them cuz they look like shit ;-; have a lil peek of leo's current design tho!
i saw a 60's spiderman meme and immediately knew i had to redraw it with leo
i cheated and used artwork of Gotham to represent NJ
my thinking was since NY in rise was so colorful and neon, wouldn't it be funny if NJ in rise was like Gotham; still colorful but darker? i thought about using a rise background at first but it visually wouldn't work to say it's NJ but the background shows NY
see under cut for meme reference and original background
You know what? I’m honestly surprised there isn’t (as far as I’m aware of) a ROTTMNT 2012 crossover that takes place immediately after the Rise Boys just after defeating the Shredder and losing their Karai and through some accident one way or another they end up in the 2012 TMNT universe
But here’s the kicker: instead of usually running into the 2012 TMNT or their Kraang they run into Karai and her foot soldiers (somewhere after she takes lead of the foot clan) and being the morally-grey and fresh-out-of-losing-their-Karai trauma turtles they are they immediately attach onto her like children lost in a store
Look where I’m getting at is I just want morally-grey rise turtles hanging out with 2012 Karai and just having some not-so-innocent fun, you know? Like I feel like the fandom should make more Rise Turtles and 2012 Karai content, it would be great
Sha Na Na, with Donny York on lead vocals, performing I Wonder Why in 1973.
It was originally a hit in 1958 for Dion and the Belmonts (UK viewers will probably also be familiar with the Showaddywaddy cover from 1976). It was written by Melvin Anderson and Ricardo Weeks who, as far as I can tell, didn't write any other hit singles. Probably didn't need to after writing this.
Unfortunately as this was in the days of square CRT TV's we don't get the full Sha Na Na choreographed experience with Joff, tall chap with moustache, on the right cut out of many of the shots. Great version of the song all the same.
people outside of new york: they are Freaks, they are Weapons, they are Terrifying
actual new yorkers: they share a single brain cell and most of the time don't know who has it. look at them. they have never done anything wrong in their entire life.
Unironically think that each of the bros (+April) don’t actually get how impressive their feats really are so they just do what they do and on the off chance someone comments on those feats they all react like:
reasons to watch rise: "we played your dumb dumb game, now give us your dumb dumb orb so we can go back to our dumb dumb lives! wait, that last part wasn't right - sorry, from the top! we played your dumb dumb -"
please support rise of the tmnt by watching the show and movie over on netflix!! 🙏❤️
