“It is, Papilio.”  Astaroth kissed the tip of her nose then just brushed his lips across hers, so he didn’t disturb her makeup.  He had already sent gifts to his cousins, the Fates, for pairing him with her.  There was no way Lucifer could have made him this lucky on his own.  Maybe he’d let everyone in the King’s office live, maybe, as a wedding gift to his new father-in-law.
“Butterfly?” Her head tilted, eyes narrowing slightly, as she looked up at him. It was an interesting nickname.  She guessed that hers was too short to shorten any further, and he had made a good choice.  She liked it.
“You are fragile in your being, even if you hide it, my dear Yara.  Yet, you can cause great disturbances when you decide to flap your wings.” He winked at her.  “And, of course, you are a thing of beauty to be handled delicately and with great care, which I intend to.”

The wedding is over but now the marriage begins...
“And this…my beautiful Princess, is our bedroom.  Closet space can be the next guest room if you need,” Astaroth choked on a laugh, his expression clearly amused as they entered the room.  “Bathroom is that door and traditional closet is that one,” he gestured to each one in turn before turning his head to look at her and gauge her reaction.  “Does it meet your lofty standards?”
The room, much like the rest of Astaroth’s mansion, was elegantly decorated.  How it could not meet anyone’s standards was beyond Yara.  Through the rest of the tour he had kept offering to allow her to change any of the decor she wanted, but just like this room, she had yet to find anything she found lacking or wanted different.
“Our…bedroom.”  Yara finally said as she looked around it.  It was all still sinking in that they were really married.   This room made it real most of all.
“Are you okay, Yara?” Astaroth put his hand lightly on her back and leaned his head forward to look at her.  His brows drew together and his lips started to thin.
She nodded with a small smile.  “It’s just been an overwhelming day, and it’s all still sinking it.  Can I ask…i mean…” her eyes closed and she signed, then her lips pressed together as her eyes scrunched.  “How many…i mean…”
“None.  You will be the first woman, person, demon, anyone to share the bed with me.  I have another room that I indulged in pleasure in.  This was my sanctuary and never had another come in with me.”  Astaroth saved her from fumbling any further with what she was wanting to know.  He doubted at her age she was a virgin, but  that didn't mean that she might not have a twinge of jealousy. “Why does it matter, my Princess?  Possible jealousy of previous lovers?”
Her cheeks felt like they were on fire and her heart was racing.  Yes, she was a little jealous or intimidated by any woman that had previously slept witn her now husband and that sounded insane.  They hadn’t dated and weren’t in love, but here they were married.  “I guess you could say that.”  She tried to stay calm. “I just wanted our bed to be OUR bed.  If we are going to do this I want things to be ours and not yours that you shared with someone else.” She fidgeted and almost vibrated.  “I know, it’s stupid and silly, but that’s what I want.  If that’s a problem then we need to start working it out.”  She looked over at him, her fingers tying themselves in knots and she was almost bouncing with nervous energy.
“Come here,” Astaroth sighed and indicated for her to come into his arms, then engulfed her in a tight hug, tucking her head under his chin.  “Yara, it’s not stupid or silly that you want that, and we can do that for everything.”  His hands gently ran up and down her back.  He had no idea where this insecurity came from, but he was going to find out.  “I have a feeling you’re going to enjoy the shopping experience.  This room, and everything in it, were only used by me.  You can still add whatever touches or decorations that you want, Princess.  This is our room.”  He kissed her temple.
“Asti, why are you being so nice?”  She had to ask.  Yara knew he didn’t have to.  He could be an asshole like her father.  He’d been a prick to all of his wives, yet women kept flocking to him whenever he was single.  That’s what power did for you.
“Why wouldn’t I, Princess. We agreed we’re in this together.  Being together means compromise and communication.  That’s what we’re doing right now.  You want things that were shared with previous lovers gone, and I have no problem with that.  We’re communicating.  I told you I have no problem working with you and making this work so we can both be happy.”  He kissed her temple again.  “Making things easy for you makes them easy for me.  Making things easy for me makes them easy for you.  Why would I make them hard for you?  You’re my wife, Yara.”
She wanted to cry.  Something as simple as not wanting reminders of the fact that he’d been with other women  and he’d agree to throw out whatever it was to make her happy.  From the sound of it, that would be a lot of things, but he hadn’t argued or gotten mean about it.  He certainly hadn’t demeaned her for being insecure or asking for something that was counterintuitive to what he was doing.
“Thank you,” she almost whispered against his chest. She didn’t know why she was so emotional over this, except that no one ever considered how she felt.
“We need to talk,” Astaroth had had enough of trying to figure her out.  He wasn’t angry or upset, but he was confused.  “We need to get some things out in the air and understood, Yara, please. I don’t want you more upset, but for things to work between us, for this to work, we need to talk.  Can you do that?”

What could possibly go wrong?
“You know this is a bad idea, yeah?”
Ricard barely glanced up from the plans littering his desk, names of locations, routes, his men, possible scouting locales, rotations, local business where they could insert themselves, along with notes he’d taken during his meeting days before with Cordelia Gray. Instead he reached for his nearby glass with an irritated sigh. “I’m well aware of the potential issues, Baines. Weren’t you just complaining that I wasn’t giving you enough to do?”
It was now that he looked up, taking a long sip of his drink as he straightened before moving to collect the half empty bottle from nearby.
The Highlander man seated across from him rolled his eyes, leaning back in his chair, arms crossed loosely over his chest as he watched Ricard turn to refill his glass. “Thought we’d be talking about going out on assignment somewhere, chattin’ some people up, more the usual. Not spyin’ on some little lordling over some family spat - not usually your style.”
“I was bored.”
“Bored, Ricard?”
“Yes, Delwyn. Bored. I have been playing the good little financial advisor for months. You know what happens when I get bored.”
“Aye, you make stupid decisions, but usually not this stupid. What happens if you find out something about the little lordling that puts little lady Cress in a bad spot, hm? You don’t like the other one because she turned you into a pincushion..”
Ricard’s head turned on a swivel as the bottle was set down none too gently, his drink dangerously close to spilling. “I believe you might have some harsh feelings towards an ex-lover who stabbed you and left you bleeding out in the middle of a foyer too, Baines.”
“Touchy touchy. Anyway - the other one…”
“Valeria. She has a name. As does the one who 'turned me into a pincushion' - Vahalia.”
“Eh. Twins right?”
“…fraternal.”
“Details.”
“We work in details, Delwyn. They’re rather important.”
“Right, well, the stabby one and the not stabby one works well enough for me. So tell me, all mighty information broker. How are you going to handle it if we find out something about your newest client’s nosy baby brother in law that negatively impacts the not stabby Cress? Gonna go talk to the stabby Cress and end up with another extra hole that has to be patched up? Because you kinda lucked out that someone found you last time if memory serves. Or are you gonna tell your client and hope that she tells the stabby Cress, because how likely is that?”
Ricard fought the urge to roll his eyes. “The client has a name as well, Delwyn - Cordelia Gray, might do you well to remember that. Look...Valeria Cress is a friend, if something comes up that concerns her then I'll manage it. Other than that, I manage and report information, that's what we do...”
“Nuh uh, don’t get to pull that. You have a responsibility. Didn’t think this one through before you accepted the job, did you Ricky?”
Ricard sighed heavily, downing half the contents of his glass as he sat down before running a hand over his face.
“Fuck.”
“That’s what you need to do, relieve some damn stress.”
“Fuck off, Delwyn.”
“I’m just calling it like I see it, Ricard - you’re wound tighter than a fucking antique clock.”
“My sex life…”
“…or lack thereof…” Delwyn managed to dodge as a pen was thrown at his head.
“Is none of your concern.”
“It is if you’re making decisions that get the rest of us into shitty situations.”
Tumblr media
Ricard again narrowed his gaze towards the other man before glancing down at the plans. “It’s a little different from what we typically do, it doesn’t mean it’s a ‘shitty’ situation. We do surveillance regularly. This is just more of a constant operation. And we’ll be getting paid better for it.”
“And if we find out something certain stabby people might be interested in?”
Ricard opened a nearby box, pulling out two cigars, cutting off the tips before offering one to the other man and then gathering up his lighter.
“Then I’ll handle it. But don’t forget Baines - Lady Gray is our client first and foremost. The information she needs is primary. Everything else is extra.”
“Uh huh…whatever you say boss…”
What could possibly go wrong.

Hi CJ, it's Monday, and I remembered there was something like Meet and Greet Monday back in the day when asks were sent to be answered in-character. Don't worry, I go a different route. lol If I walked a busy place in a big city in your setting, which character of yours am I most likely to meet? How would I meet them, and how would they react?
Good Morning, Jess!
I'm going to answer for each of my WIP's because I'm just in that mood today :) And...I love this idea!!
@theimperiumchronicles -
Most likely Mithos or Thinius since they are head of Abriella's legion. They would be working and making sure that there was order. They know pretty much after so many centuries who belongs and who doesn't, so they might ask if you need help or are enjoying your visit. They would be friendly but professional. Thinius is more friendly than Mithos is.
@bendingthelaws -
You'd probably run into either Karsten, Declan, or Keegan. As cops and a firefighter, they are often found on the streets while doing their jobs. They interact with the public for a variety of reasons. As long as you're not breaking the law, or setting fires, they are all three very friendly and laid back men.
@bombsbodyguardsbroken -
If visiting the great state of Lousisana and visiting a museum you'd be most likely to run into Melania herself. She is on the board or a scholar emeritus at every historical museum in the state. She will often be in one to give a lecture, help curate a collection, or lend advice to a curator regarding an artifact or exhibition. She is very outgoing and friendly, loving to engage the public when they are interested in archaeology or history in general.
@magical-mistakes-vm -
You would most likely run into Vollrath if you were in his territory. He likes to meet visitors personally to ascertain whether they are of any threat to either himself or his Coven. While his interactions with Mahala have been unique in that there is some softness and seeming affection between them already, that is not the normal. A brick wall is how he is often described, and extremely intimidating. You'll probably want to get away from him as quickly as possible. He'll seek you out, although you'll most likely wish he didn't.
@princess-of-thieves-id -
Since both Inara and Diyan are in hiding from their respective parents and kingdoms, Arik is the one you are most likely to meet in a market picking something up for one of the others. While he looks intimidating being, tall, dark, handsome, and deadly, he is quite friendly. As long as you don't mention the Prince or the Princess, you'll be fine. Mention either of those, and you get to visit a real life pirate ship...as a prisoner.
@the-andromeda-effect -
More than likely you won't meet Riona or Caliban on the streets of the city where they live, and for good reason. Riona is "dead" so she cannot be seen around those who might recognize her, and Caliban tends to avoid groups of people who might know him. Instead you would meet his attorney and best friend, Theron. He's all business, but if you catch him in a good mood, the man does have a wicked sense of humor. He's also a gentleman, so he will be holding the door for you.
@tapperhet-em -
Princess Meeri has a price on her head, so she is in hiding, which leaves her knight, Einar. Like Arik, he will most likely be picking up something for her in a shop. He would do anything for Meeri, including purchasing any items she needs, however if those items are of a feminine nature he is going to do so as discreetly and fast as possible. If they are intimate garments, he is not going to want anyone else to see them, he's rather possessive/jealous that way. So, if you bump into him, it doesn't matter what gender you are, he's going to be flustered and try to hide them. Don't laugh, be sweet, and feel a little empathy for the poor man.
@devil-in-the-details-ay -
You will probably run into Yara and Astaroth together. TOGETHER is now their key word and they do a lot that way. After what happens when they go to fulfill Lucifer's contract, Astaroth doesn't leave her alone much when there is a chance her father's employees could show up. He likes to take her out to dinner especially, she is a foodie. So you'd probably run into them waiting to be seated at a restaurant. You will get the best food recommendations from the couple. They will be friendly and Yara will blush a log at Astaroth's attentions, he assumes everyone works for Lucifer so he likes to show that he does not hate Yara the way her father does. It's cute. If you get along with Yara, you may be invited to dine with them and have dinner paid for, along with getting a few extra years added to your life.

They might just make it through the day without killing each other...
Astaroth almost laughed, maybe this wouldn’t be as bad as he was anticipating.  “If need be, you can have a whole house just for your clothing, darling.”  Just no temper tantrums, he thought to himself.  He stepped over closer to her, his hand once more landing on her lower back as he stood next to her, testing the waters. “Yara, if you work with me, this doesn’t have to be a bad experience for either of us.” The corners of his mouth rose slightly as he watched for her reaction.
Yara looked at him, once more she was struck by how handsome he was, especially when smiling or laughing.  Tall, dark, and handsome was coined as an expression for him, she thought.  Not only that, but he was Death, not any of the other Lords of Hell that her father could have sent her to.  Yes, she had requested this assignment, but obviously her desires were not involved in his decision.  “What are you proposing, dear husband?”
When she was calm, she was stunning.  By far the most beautiful demoness he had ever had in his office, which made him a pretty lucky Lord of Hell when he thought about it.   “Partners in everything.  Nothing is done that we don’t agree to, but we do live as a married couple.  There is not going to be two people living single lives in the same house.  I think we already covered the sex side of things for now.”  He quickly cut off her thinking of anything down that road and getting upset again. “Consent. Agreement. Partners.  No assumptions, and we can work on misunderstandings and miscommunications as they come up, together.”  He met her gaze evenly, one hand rising to brush the backs of his fingers over her cheek.  “This doesn’t have to be a prison or lonely, sweetheart.  We can learn how to make this work for both of us, maybe even make each other happy.  That is, if you want to work together.”  He gently reached out and took her hand, a step in the right direction, hopefully, that they were calmly now talking with one another and she was not having emotional reactions to what he was saying.  They had to get this done or they would both face Lucifer.
For some reason Yara felt herself unable to breathe for a moment looking up into those dark amber eyes of his that seemed so calm at the moment in the center of all the chaos her father had created.  She felt under a spell that she knew he hadn’t cast.  A small nod before she swallowed, still trying to find an answer.  The reality of it all was setting in.  “I do want that. We can do this together.  I don’t want to fight all the time, Asti.”  Where had that name come from?  Fuck, why had she done that?  No one shortened his name, not ever, and lived!  Suddenly she could breathe, and breathe fast, and wanted to run.
Asti? That was a new one, he thought with a raised brow.  He could live with it.  Obviously she wasn’t sure he could because the poor woman was about to hyperventilate. Her mouth opened to say something and he let go of her hand to put a finger on her lips, which made him ache to replace it with his own lips. “Asti is fine, my darling.  We are to be married within the hour, after all. It is only natural that we would have personal names for one another.  I just asked that you only use it when it is you and I.  Deal?”  She nodded and he lowered his finger.  “Compromise. See, we can do this together.”  He winked with a chuckle, after all he could think of worse things for her to call him.
A soft and almost shy smile graced her lips as she nodded at him, a pink tinge alighting her cheeks.  If Astaroth were to be honest, his newly betrothed slightly confused him.  She seemed a very pampered and bratty Princess the day before, but at the moment she was almost shy and reserved once she got over her emotional outburst.  He could hardly blame her for being emotional, Lucifer was being a right prick.  He wondered which of them was the true Yara.  He would find out in time, he was sure, but it was something he was going to have to watch because he did not like being deceived or manipulated.
He was about to discuss some ideas he had for the next few days when a knock resounded at his office door.  It seemed the priest had arrived for the very short and private ceremony. “Ready?”  He asked her with raised brows. “No.”  She answered honestly. “I’m not sure any more time is going to help though.  We’re in this together though.”  She gave him a soft smile; after talking to him, she was feeling better.  He was one of the few that would ever see what was behind her walls she kept up to keep everyone out.
Astaroth gently squeezed her hand. “Together in everything.  There's nothing to be nervous about. This will be over in just a few minutes, and then we can discuss what we want to do next. Which, if I'm honest, getting out of Hell for a few days is on the top of my list." Astaroth gave her a rather weary smile and squeezed her hand again before stepping away to go open the door to let the priest in.
Yara was doing fine, until, that was, Astaroth stepped out of the way and she saw the priest that was coming in. Her father's priest, one of the highest. It seemed that Daddy was making sure that she and the Lord of Death were indeed getting formally and fully married.  “I didn’t believe it, but it is true.”  The priest was laughing as he came in the room, but Astaroth looked confused.  “So your father finally has found a way to get rid of you.  I wondered how he would do it.”  He turned to Astaroth who now had his jaw set and his eyes hard, as he watched a tear roll down Yara’s face.  She still had said nothing, not even a snarky return.  “I am so sorry that it is you, Lord Astaroth, you do not deserve this fate, but I must do my duty.  I have dismissed your priest, as Lord Lucifer desired that I perform the ceremony personally.”
“So be it.” The warmth in Astaroth’s voice made liquid Nitrogen feel warm as he closed the door and strode past the man to where Yara stood.  Confusion flashed briefly in his eyes when she flinched from him when he went to take her hand.  “Let us be on with it then.” *Must not kill Lucifer’s priest.*  Even if the interaction with Yara the day before had been less than ideal, the mocking the priest had done was out of line and it was all he could do not to say something.  This was the woman he was spending the rest of eternity with after all, deriding her in front of him was not the best move if he wanted to continue his existence.

#zeno's art#i'm not sure if i should tag the show itself as i'm not a fan but i guess its “fan”art so i will#hazbin hotel#charlie hazbin hotel#vivziepop#i was bored and wanted to draw something#my main goal here was to create a design that looked distinct and could (potentially) be moderately easy to animate#of course based on charlie's character i added as many angel images as possible through the hair and bowtie#(i know white on white is a character design sin but i wanted to show the angel wing detail ;w;)#also to express the personality and juxtaposition of a sweet devil her horns are supposed to curve into a heart shape#of course the garterbelts are upside-down/st peters crosses because of her satanic themes#i also tried to go harder into the goat theme but its still subtle i think#i actually think the goat theme is really interesting because of the story of the sheep and the goats in the bible#but i cant remember if it was actually something intended in her original design#i'm not going to draw anyone else so dont even anticipate that#this was basically a cooldown? ok i think i'm rambling now#goodbye#ok edit to say it clearly: i am not a fan of vivziepop or her work. i just wanted to redesign charlie as a cooldown/exercise for fun#because i used to be a fan of the character before i wised up about what vivzie had and has done#and before i matured and noticed the cracks and fundamental flaws in her works#so yea i dont support her at all and this redesign is critical i guess#also the reason why the tag “vivziepop” is there in the first place is so that anyone who has that tag silenced can scroll past#without seeing anything related to her work. in case that clears anything up#its the same reason why i tag “long post” and “food” and the like
