Question for those that have experience with death deities and those who protect the dead
🥀🐺💀🗝️🥀
Tumblr media
So, I’ve been doing some reading about Gods of the Dead - Pluto/Hades/Nyja, etc.
I have a question for anyone who feel inspired to answer in either a comment reply or a reblog.
In many descriptions it is written that they are a “god of the underworld and guardian of souls when they leave the body.”
Do you think this could also be true for those who do soul travel or astral projection? Would the god of the dead also protect those who practice traveling?
And if not him, who? Would anyone be the watcher of this practice? Another psychopomp?
I’m looking for personal gnosis and historical/folkloric evidence of something like this. Thank you ♥️

Hazbin Hotel x God of Death! Reader
You were born as a result of evil coming into the world, you are a merciful escape from suffering.
As the Deity of Death, you’re technically divine, so you can move freely between the three realms.
It’s your job to transport souls from Earth to either Heaven or Hell.
Adam was the first human soul you had to transport.  You didn’t know what to do with him so you took him to Heaven to let the angels decide what to do with him.
They misunderstood and thought you were delivering him to Heaven because he belonged there.
You dislike the exorcists because they regularly trespass on your domain.
You’re extremely busy all the time, though, so you don’t have time to reprimand them.
You're very, very tired.

There is something so beautiful and sweet to me about the fact that Thanatos is the god of peaceful death.
When I die, I want Death to greet me as an old, childhood friend - unknown yet so familiar, intimidating yet so comforting. I want Death to take me gently by the hand, whisper in my ear, "It'll be alright," and help me stand to my feet as I walk towards a new life - a different kind of life - in a place I may have seen in a dream once.
I hope Thanatos greets me, in my final moments, with the softness and sweetness of an old friend. To me, that is peaceful. And it's so beautiful that he is so willing to provide such comforts to humans in their official transition from one plane of existence to the next. How kind, how compassionate, how admirable.
Death is a friend, in the end, and he smiles softly as he takes your hand.

Unpopular Opinion Time
The doodle you make or the picrew you use, the poorly executed poetry or basic bare bones prayer will ALWAYS be better than AI generated offerings.
I am sick of having my feed flooded with practitioners, pagans and other polytheists using AI. Specifically deities like Brigid should never be offered AI in my opinion, it’s essentially a slap in the face.
AI generated spells aren’t shit, it’s what a computer assumes will work based off of what it can gather from internet trends and research. MAKE IT YOURSELF, ask a human for help anything but AI.
There is no place for Artificial Intelligence in these spaces.

Caged Death
After speaking with Clockwork, Danny discovered that the Ghost King's job was not only as the ruler of the Realms or the caretaker of the ghosts, but also as the representative of death.
It turns out that death has taken different personifications over the centuries (and because of the number of dimensions) but they always needed a leader. The Ghost King was meant to be the one to guide them and do most of the work, guiding the humans' souls to a better place and help when needed, which is why he needed so much power in the first place. This was obviously neglected by his predecessor, making the current deaths suspicious.
Although it was hard, Danny began to do his work, he noticed the misinterpretation that people had of death, and how those who were at the end of their lifetime understood it better. When he went to visit one of the dimensions that had recently gone through a war, he was captured.
An old wizard had discovered that he could trap death and prevent it from spreading. He caught the King and demanded that he return the soul of his son, he also demanded him to go away and take no one else with it.
Danny refused, those souls needed to rest, and the other personifications of death could do his work in the other dimensions but since they knew that he would take care of DC dimension problem, he was worried that he had stopped the cycle of life by accident on the dimension.
The Justice League were undecided on how to proceed, wasn't the lack of death good?, but after John Constantine took them to the hospital with all the injured begging to rest in peace they understood, although Batman seemed reluctant to help, Robin's recent death was probably still affecting him.

So like...Danny as Ghost King getting to help sort people into the correct/prefered afterlives, and talking with all the Justice League peeps to figure out what they want/where they want to go ahead of time like it's a pension plan or like he's a Travel Agent.
Like he gives tours around various afterlives around the Ghost Zone, offers up different "packages" they can choose from.
"With the Ghost Package you can come back to the living realm, but you will be locked in with an Obsession - it's not as bad as it sounds, but we can go into more detail later on what it entails if you're interested - and you will be bound to a particular Haunt. Also my parents might try to capture and experiment on you."
"Unfortunately you don't qualify for the Revenant package due to how many times you've already died and come back, but I *can* get you set up with one of our Reincarnation representatives if returning to the living world is something you are interested in."
"Guardian Spirit is a popular choice, so there is a bit of a waiting time in terms of getting paperwork processed, but if you sign up for it now while you're still alive all that can be done ahead of time and you can jump right in once you pass on. You will need to make sure you regularly update the list of who you will be watching over considering your propensity for adoption."

im excited for the death gala!! Will xibalba be there? and hel? what about azrael? he’s not really a god but he is considered the angel of death in Judaism!
I’m excited too it’s an idea I’ve had and wanted to get through a lot of research so the designs will be accurate and amazing!
Because a lot of religions/mythologies don’t always call their deities by the title “gods” I’m not going to minimise by that, as long as they have something to do with death (ex. personification of death/ ruler of the dead, etc.) they receive an invite.
So yes, Azrael has been invited along with many others🖤

You asked for it. Now you get
EVEN MORE Hazbin Hotel x God of Death! Reader
spoiler for episodes 7 & 8
It turns out you arrived at just the right time, actually.
The Extermination is soon and Charlie and co. need as much help as they can get defending the Hotel.
It's just your luck, you came for a vacation, and you still have to work.
You're a little surprised Carmilla Carmine discovered the angels' weakness.
But only a little. She is an arms dealer, after all.
To be honest, you should have realized it happened sooner when the dead angel's soul showed up in Limbo, but you can't actually tell the naked souls of a demon and an exorcist apart.
They're honestly equally corrupted.
You help train the demons who've chosen to defend the Hotel, it's pretty brutal.
Except for Alastor, he chose to skip training; a mistake you won't let him make again.
When the exorcists attack, you are calm and collected. You have no reason to fear for yourself.
That doesn't mean you don't fight fiercely, though.
It's the first time in thousands of years that anyone's been able to lucidly see you in action.
You're untouchable, dodging and blocking every blow directed at you.
You attack in turn with the Soul Reaper, a weapon that changes form between any kind of scythe or sickle based on what's most useful at a given moment.
For example, it can be an ordinary scythe while blocking, a sickle during a close range attack, and a kusarigama when you want to pull an opponent into close range from further away.
The exorcists don't recognize you, too blinded by their hatred for demon-kind to see you for what you are.
It's hardly even a challenge.
You notice quickly when Adam joins the fight, though you let Alastor fight him for a few seconds before stepping in.
You suppose you can allow him to defend his pride a little bit.
You won't let him die now, though, it's too early. He has yet to serve his purpose.
You try to keep Adam occupied. You really do.
However, you're unable to prevent him from disintegrating Pentious's airship.
You drop the fight the instant it's happened.
Seeing as Pentious sacrificed himself for the others, you figure he's earned a one-way trip to Heaven.
You carry his shell-shocked soul straight to the seraphim.
"Special delivery! Also, friendly reminder, I'm the one who decides where a soul goes and when it goes there. Maybe consult me the next time you have a question of if a transfer is possible, Sera."
You fucking slap her.
When you return to the battle, Lucifer and Charlie are struggling to fight Adam while minimizing collateral damage.
Time to fix your mistake.
You tackle him.
"You again?! Who the fuck are you?!" "You already know me, Adam. You just don't remember."
You knock him off his feet.
"I'm Death. Taking you to Heaven was a mistake. One I won't soon repeat."
You slice his wings clean off.
You would have left it at that, but then Niffty stabs him from behind with a blessed dagger.
Great. Now you have to deal with him in your home.
Whatever, you'll just keep him in stasis until you're tired of him taking up space.
Then you'll deposit him in Hell where he belongs.

Deity: Nerull, The One Who Sorts The Bones
It's said they found the god in the old tombs, in that forgotten quiet where long eras had worn away all the epitaphs. They drew in a breath of the still air and on their exhalation the god took flight into the world on vulture's wings. -The Silent Testimonies, book 1
A god not of death, but of the dead, Nerull presides those aspects of the mortal coil that lay beyond the Raven Queen's domain of mourning and memory. Someone must keep vigil for the departed long after their names have passed from the memories of the living, and so that duty falls to Nerull, who's chosen people are the spirits that have lingered in the world far longer than they were ever alive.
Beyond the dead, the vulture’s faithful are an eclectic lot. Itinerant gravetenders, scholars of forgotten tongues, Bonesetters who's experience with embalming helps them minister to the living.  To Serve Nerull you must first die, though this is often symbolic.
Unlike his fellow carrion-bird death god, Nerull's following does not frown on the use of necromancy, or the existance of undead. Ghost stories, whether vengeful or sorrowful are considered holy for the way their memory transcends time. The exception to this reverence of course are those trapped in suffering, and the "hungry" dead who feed on the living. Pain and want are after all the purview of life, and Nerull dispatches hunters and psychopomps to ease such spirits along their way.
Adventure Hooks:
While out on their travels the party encounters a procession of grey pilgrims, masked and shrouded, all silent save for the leader of their procession who carries a staff jingling with bells and welcomes the party to sit by his fire. He tells tale of conflicts across the realm, new and old, shared with her by her flock, and invites the party to walk along with them the next day if they wish to see something splendid. Should the party agree to such unsettling company they will walk until sunset when they come to a hillside dotted with loose stones, where one by one the pigrims will walk out and begin constructing their own cairns. The procession leader will thank them for their observance, not many are so kind to the unnamed dead, and will reward them with answers to five questions before departing on pallid wings.
After inexplicably befriending one of Nerull's agents (and possibly his daughter?) during one of their adventures, the party are liable to be put out when they don't see their favourite psychopomp for a while. Queue sightings of a foreboding spectre that's knocking one by one on the doors of the city at night, sending people into a panic. Imagine their surprise when it turns out this wraith has a message for them... their favourite omen of doom has been kidnapped by a necromancer and her boss (dad?) wants them to get her back.
The Vulture's work is never done, and this time he's decided to enlist the heroes for aid. Perhaps there's an undead spirit that needs to be quieted, perhaps there's something sinister at work in a ruin once consecrated in his name, perhaps it's just making sure they clean up after themselves after their latest stint of tombrobbing. Regardless, Nerull can offer the heroes something far beyond coin... closure with the dead, ensuring visitation with a loved one for some much needed closure.
Titles: The Vulture, The Bonesorter, Dead Ned, the weary reaper, the vagabond end.
Signs: Plants too dry to rot, the voices of the departed carried on the wind, skeletons rearranged into trees or gardens.
Symbols: A scythe or sickle entwined with flowers.
