How I would have written Ellie's arc post season 4 (degrassi tng)

Season 5: Ellie would have zero love interests. No being all gaga over Craig, no Ellie lowkey toying with Jimmy's feelings and this weird love triangle. She'd be 100% single.

Ellie and Jimmy would still bond over their love for art and become closer friends, making Hazel a little suspicious. But they'd both let Hazel know they're just friends and nothing more.

I'd also give Hazel and Ellie a bond too. Ellie would give Hazel relationship advice and help her understand the palex situation more. While Hazel would also help Ellie open up about Sean.

Another detail l'd add is that Sean and Ellie lose their virginities to one another the day around the shooting era. Like there is nothing that will get me to believe that Sellie didn't have sex while living together but that Sean and Emma were doing it while he was staying in her house, where her parents and brother also are.

Basically Ellie would be single just hanging out with friends.

Season 6: Ellie still lives with Marco and Paige, she still works at the Core. But she doesn’t date Jesse nor have feelings for Craig. Sean comes back for Ellie but Ellie would still be pissed at him for leaving but he’d eventually earn her trust and forgiveness. They’d get back together in Crazy Little Thing Called Love. The dinner scene in What It Feels Like To Be A Ghost would still be there, except Ellie wouldn’t be passive aggressive towards Cranny. Ellie would be annoyed because BOTH Craig and Manny are there and she’s still upset at how Ashley got fucked over.

Ellie would catch Craig doing coke and he’d blame Manny, but she wouldn’t buy it because as @delsrossi said, Ellie is a journalist and canonically observant. She’d notice that it’s Craig’s. So when Manny catches Ellie at the door, they’d have a short talk. Ellie would tell her that Craig tried to blame her.

Ellie would tell Sean and Marco. Sean would also be on the boat of 'yep this is Craig’s'. Same with Marco. Craig got to rehab and Sellie stays happy and in love.

Sean would have that army storyline, except Ellie would be supportive and the whole pregnancy storyline wouldn’t exist. Sellie would end up doing long distance.

Season 7: She’d just focus on the Core and her friendships with Paige and Marco. No Mellie hookup, no codependency. And Alex would stay in this version too, so I’d show more of her and Ellie’s bond. Maybe also show a bond with her parents. Her long distance relationship with Sean would be thriving. Sean would come back to see her again for a bit and they’d catch up.

In season 8, I wouldn’t even have the subplot with Marco-Paige-Ellie because it regressed both Paige and Ellie and Marco was thrown under the bus.

i know people clown on clare's speech, but if i was a 15/16 year old girl who's boyfriend was so deeply and unhealthily in love with me that he crashed his car suddenly moved on in like 2 weeks, i would be confused and upset as well.

I can understand why she acted that way and I certainly don’t hold that scene too much against her because she apologized but what does make me uncomfortable overall is that Clare had no problems throwing Eli’s trauma in his face when she was mad at him and this wasn’t the first time nor last time she did it either. Eli’s first girlfriend died, of course it would take him way longer to “get over” her than Clare no matter how in love with her he was. Again, this doesn’t detract from my love of Clare at all since she was indeed only a teenager reacting irrationally. And I’m happy she was mature enough to apologize to Eli for it the next day because she was a good person because she always owned up to her mistakes most of the time.

a few stray thoughts about degrassi the next generation season 3 episode 17

> theres a scene at the beginning of the episode that i really like where rick and terri are casually talking about theatre, it really showcases something i love about rick compared to every other villain character in the show and its that hes 3-dimensional. its just such a real scene, it communicates what terri sees in him (hes an artsy guy passionate about his interests) and his red flags (hes demeaning and condescending towards things he views as beneath him ie. mimery and marcos play from earlier in the season), its just a very real scene, and i cant give enough credit to ephraim ellis for how much depth he gives to the character, the interaction just feels so human

> the way paige and spinner process their grief over being the ones to find terri unresponsive is so interesting, they're just racked with so much guilt that they start deflecting and blaming each other in order to rid themselves of the guilt only to just end up feeling worse...it's very compelling to me

Byler v Melvilles remind me so much of when Degrassi was still on and a couple of us predicted Miles and Tristan ahead of time but the problem in the fandom was Miles and Maya were a HUGE ship that we were all called delusional blah blah blah and guess what?? Triles ended up being a big ship. In fact Miles and Maya ended up not being it in the show. And people would be like MILES IS STRAIGHT BC HE ONLY DATED GIRLS and then it established he is BI!! This eerily makes me think the same thing! How people ostracized us for so long for daring to meta against Milevensies. People did the same thing to Miles and Tristan shippers. Tristan was def gay from the start but Miles just like Mike isn’t established as anything so we don’t know! I had less hints with triles than with Byler and I was right so I’m so confident in byler so much 😭 Miles even reject Tristan at first and then Miles made the first move. So the fact they didn’t even have Mike reject Will and that in fact he saw the painting he assumed is for someone he likes and looks at it positively before Will says El commissioned makes me so happy! It gives me so much hope. I mean I’m 100% confidences since I saw Mike and Will since s2 before we even got the scripts based off Mike touching Will’s hand close up shot.

I mean, I would like to get a few short stories / poems / animation shorts / short films / "software toys" going and by far. So may as well pitch a few of my current narrative draft ideas for initial practice...

I guess I will make it clear that I feel a powerful need to write down immersive / cohesive yet oxymoron Axis victory set of stories. Most likely with some cultural & technological nuances (not about making Nazism, Fascism and others legitimate but definitely challenging some assumptions we societally made from the world wars) & conflicted characters as far as emulating dystopia-writing with a humane / relatable touch.

These are not the only narratives I would like to convey, far from it. I got a couple more related to historical "mysteries", my constructed world(s?) slice-of-life-s and overall making optimistic meta-narratives. Like some about my hometown, a couple around specific tools / challenges / design contraints, much about far far away alternate futures and a few drop-in "clef" replacements for some existing works with strong satirist-ic commentary & nuanced intrigue politics...

Could you do a ranking your favorite scream movies and why?

Scream

I'm not really sure if this needs an in-depth breakdown. It's iconic. The originator. The ultimate make-fun-of-and-pay-homage-to-movie-tropes movie. The first phone call, Drew Barrymore dying in the first 5 minutes? The dialogue, the meta, the balance, it's just all so well-done.

Scream 2

Randy is correct, this one is inferior to the first but it is a great sequel and not an inferior movie. I love the Ghostface reveals, they're very fun and funny, they're so close to being my favourite (but Billy and Stu reign supreme) the conversation about desensitization and art imitating life was carried throughout and carried throughout well. Joshua Jackson and Sarah Michelle Gellar having their small roles in it is great 90s teen pop culture reference.

Scream 4

Scream 3

I'm going to talk about them together. I put Scream 4 before Scream 3 because I think Scream 4 is technically tighter and the reveal of Jill Roberts being Ghostface was more interesting than Roman's reveal, which was kind of a jump the shark moment. Scream 3 had some good elements, like Sidney getting attacked on the set of the movie-within-the-movie so her life has become blended with pop culture, and in a lot of ways the third movie is the most meta considering the actors in Stab are given the same complaints about Stab that the actors in Scream had about the movie, i.e. the constant rewrites. Roman having to do the Stab movie before he could do his romance is what happened with Wes Craven, he had to direct Scream before he could do the movie he wanted so while Stab is a movie about the characters' lives, Scream 3 is kind of a movie about what's going on with the cast. That's deep-dive inside baseball meta. But it's not very fun. It is certainly more fun than Scream 5 or 6 but it kind of drags, Sidney is hardly in it because Neve only worked 20 days, and the supporting characters aren't nearly as engaging, not like how Randy was, or even Tatum and Halli.

Scream 4 didn't feel as laborious, it's light on the meta compared to the first three, but it's back to that kind of light, tongue and cheek vibe. Emma Roberts niece to Julia Roberts playing Jill Roberts who is tired of being Sid's cousin is a very big wink. Rory Culkin being in it, great choice. Having Adam Brody and Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin and those girls from PLL and Degrassi TGN do cameos were all great pop culture references. It also delivered on the "modern horror film" rules in a more satisfying way to me than Scream 3 did on the trilogy rules, like the deaths being more gruesome or "shocking" for the time and for the franchise like Jill shooting Trevor in the balls, which wouldn't have happened before.

Scream 5 + 6 are equal to me

I find them equally joyless and charmless tbh, I have the same "meh" attitude towards both of them.

huh well i just watched the whole current mood episode and i dunno, i didn’t think it was as bad a dig as people are saying it is 🤷🏻‍♀️ felt like john was just razzing her but it actually made me feel like maybe they’re on good terms with each other these days? is it just me?? right after the part people are talking about they wrap up and john says “sending my love out there to people who had a hard week” and shawn said “lots of love” and it sorta felt directed at taylor and it felt genuine. hard to describe.

an opportunity missed for shawn? absolutely. but hm, i dunno, wasn’t the bombshell moment i was expecting.

for people interested but don’t have a full 40 minutes to watch the whole thing, it’s towards the end of the show. maybe the last 5 minutes.

Top 5 Misc. Cartoons

1. Helluva Boss

It’s raunchy, inappropriate fun in a hellish landscape that has musical numbers! Of course it’s number one. It’s hilarious. And surprisingly moving when plumbing character insecurities and interpersonal relationships. My favorite line to this day is “She called me a possum. I am not a possum.”

2. Clone High

It’s rated R parody of all those high school tropes like Degrassi from a super special episode dealing with a character death of someone we never met to Jack Black pushing raisins as a metaphor for drugs. It is also hysterical. Especially as it uses its premise of clones of historical figures to make so many puns and jokes and allusions to having celebrity cameos like Mandy Moore and John Stamos. It was cancelled too soon and I hope the rumors of revival are true.

3. Drawn Together

Like Helluva Boss, it is hilariously inappropriate and raunchy and will sure find offend everyone. It is crude, rude and totally crosses the line at points (almost every point) but I still laugh guilty as it parodies reality tv and cartoons.

4. Big Mouth

Again, raunchy and can cross the line, but this show actually has really good messages about sexuality, hormones, emotionality and all the changes that come with growing up.

5. Animaniacs

This classic show is a classic for a reason with its zany skits, innuendos and meta-ness. Long live the Warner Brothers and Warner Sister, Dot. They spend their days running around the Warner Movie Lot. . . And now I have the song stuck in my head. Goodnight everybody!

Hon mention: The Magic School Bus, Crashbox

One more ask! You’ve mentioned several times that you have complicated feelings towards Zaya, which makes sense since all the characters and ships on this show have more than their share of flaws and messy moments :) So I wanted to ask what you love about them AND what you wish you could change about them! Also, talk about why you prefer Camaya!!

What I love about Zaya: Their chemistry. Like it's explosive yet also has a lot of comfort. I can buy how much they love each other and their development was beautiful to see.

What I wish I could change about Zaya: Well them kissing while ZIg was still with Tori was a little 'ugh' to me. Even moreso that there were those moments of Zig pestering Maya to go out with him. I HATE those types of relationships where one person goes after the other without taking 'no' for an answer. It's not cute, it's not sweet, it's romantic. It's DISGUSTING and ignoring the other person's agency. And while I don't blame him for Cam's death, even if Cam didn't end up committing suicide, he shouldn't be telling the girl he claims to love's boyfriend to get out of her life But he did feel bad about that and realizing his mistake. And also, Zig calling Maya his "sloppy seconds" is also never addressed? And I mean ZIg's attitude about Maya following her dream in NC is just idk...but I'm getting ahead of myself.

But what I would personally change about them to have them as endgame is that, they can still kiss and Zig would still have feelings for Maya except he'd back off a little more. Zig would be honest with Tori and break up with her. Maya would be upset at first but understand.

Idk if Cam would have still killed himself if Zig didn't talk to him. But if he does :(, I'd have Zaya have that same storyline. And in s13, Zig would be less of a dick about Matlingsworth but he'd still be into Maya. Wouldn't call Maya his "sloppy seconds" or any of that. Wouldn't be an asshole about Maya not being into like that and they'd stay friends and that same storyline.

In season 14, I'd have it be the same, except I'd give Matilngsworth and Zoemund closure. Zoe and Zig can go on a date, but realize they're better as friends (which a perfect lead in for Zoe realizing she's gay). Matlingsworth can be friends or have the same thing as Zoemund.

And everything else with Zaya in that season is still the same :)

For next class s1, even though I HATE the cheating and Zig being unsupportive of Maya's dream, it isn't ooc imo. But I would rather if Zig wasn't jealous of Maya and Jonah but still...

Early Season 2 can be the same except after #TurnItUp, Zig (and Grace) wouldn't try to insist for Maya to forgive him and she'd get some space. So Zig would be less of a dick and Grace would not have feelings for him. Like I don't even like Gracevas, but Grace having feelings for Zig of all people and defending him to Maya...Like she could tell Zoe that she thinks Zig is hot. They didn't HAVE to have Grae have feelings for the guy. While I don't think it came out of nowhere because Grace is a very private person and probably would have hid it through insults or smth or something could've developed, it's the way Grace kept defending him to Maya when ZIg completely fucked up.

Season 3 and Season 4 Zaya can still be the same and they'd get back together during their trip and talk things out :)

As for why I prefer Camaya, I just think they're very sweet and pure. They truly seemed to adore each other and I love how Cam liked Maya in the beginning and Maya started to feel the same way. I know it's unrealistic, but a Camaya endgame would have been adorable. They were definitely each other's first loves.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been awhile since I returned to S11 lol. But were KC and Marisol actually sneaking around? The whole "homewrecker" thing didn't sit right with me because from what I saw, they were just interacting at their work. If anything, KC needed to take more of the heat for that because he was neglecting his family at home...

Unfortunately yeah because Marisol referred to KC as a “man of many talents” and KC was suspiciously always coming home two hours later than he was supposed to but their entire relationship was undeveloped, mostly offscreen, and just served as a cheap reason to break up Kenna because there’s no mention of it after 11A and how it affected Marisol on a personal level. Lmao I could write a whole essay about my issues with this plot on a writing level because it was offensive. But yes anon, KC deserved way more heat for that than he got in canon. Only Jenna and sorta Dave held him accountable??? Even Clare got her lick in at Marisol when that situation was none of her fucking business.

Lmao your post about degrassi being ingrained in you as a Canadian made me laugh and also want to share a story. When my American friend started to watch degrassi she thought she'd made this amazing discovery and asked me "if I'd ever heard of it" and I was like heard of it? I don't think there's been a day in my 22 years of life where I haven't seen at least 1 degrassi episode air on TV, new or rerun.

it’s like if ur not canadian u don’t get it...reruns are constantly on...every canadian actor has been touched by degrassi in some way shape or form...drake back when he was jimmy....you couldn’t avoid this show even if you wanted to

due  to  terri’s  head  injuries,  she  suffered  from  faint  memory  loss,  and  even  to  this  day  she  experiences  with  short-term  memory  at  some  points.  she  also  struggles  with  reading  and  her  studies,  and  it  effects  her  a  lot.  because  of  this,  her  father  unenrolled  her  from  degrassi  and  she  worked  from  home  with  tutors  so  she  could  both  heal  and  continue  her  studies.

i  didn’t  want  to  put  terri  right  back  in  degrassi  despite  me  wanting  to  write  her  there  because  like..  she’s  been  through  so  fucking  much  i  don’t think  i  could  put  my  poor  baby  in  the  rick  returning  +  the  shooting  aspect  (  however,  maybe  i’ll  write  a  meta / verse  of  her  being  there  bc  hmm.   )  however  !  after  hearing  about  the  shooting,  terri  realizes  how  much  she  misses  her  friends  and  how  every  moment  counts.  so,  she  returns  for  her  senior  year.  it’s  definitely  hard  for  her  to  be  back  and  have  people  walk  on  egg  shells  around  her,  but  after  being  with  her  friends  again,  she  knows  she  made  the  right  decision  to   come  back  for  a  final  year<3

Concept for a TV series:

A spin-off of “American Horror Story” called “American Weird Story”. The series is not confined to a single genre; instead, each season is designed to be a massive mindfuck. So the show can be horror, thriller, romance, drama, and so on. What matters is that the show comes off as bizarre.  

A hypothetical set-up for the series:

1) Season 1: A typical teen drama like “Degrassi”...until it’s revealed that one of the characters is aware that they’re in a TV show. And this fact slowly drives them insane.

2) Season 2: A stoner comedy where an unemployed rocker is recruited by the devil to find some souls that escaped hell. To help him, the devil assigns historically awful people Attila the Hun, Elizabeth Bathory, and Pol Pot to help him.

3) Season 3: A musical comedy set during the American Revolution. As a bit of meta humor, Lin-Manuel Miranda plays an alien bounty hunter trying to find a criminal that has a disease that forces people to sing. So it’s “Hamilton”, but the characters are aware they’re in a musical and are being forced to play their part.

4) Season 4: A sitcom with a laughtrack that starts out normally...until we get to one episode where the laughtrack just disappears. The season then slowly turns into a drama as the characters stop talking as if they’re waiting for the audience to laugh. 

Happy Triles Anniversary!

Six years ago on July 29, 2014, the Degrassi episode “Thunderstruck” aired and Triles began! 

It’s been a little over three years since we last saw Miles and Tristan-- or Degrassi-- on screen. I don’t participate in what is left of fandom anymore, and I have personally moved on to other fandoms (one in particular.) But I still keep “Degrassi” in my url and I still celebrate the Triles anniversary because this show really meant something to me and my experience in the fandom was truly foundational. 

These days, I spent my fandom time in the Druck fandom, and there I have made life long friends, written fan fiction and meta-analysis, co-lead fandom events, and even spearheaded a project to advocate for disability reputation on the show. When I made recently made the side-blog @druckdisabilityrep, I was reminded that back in 2015 I made my first side-blog @trilesweek​ so I could run Triles Week 2015 and 2016. In that moment, my journey and Degrassi’s part in that felt particularly poignant. 

I learned so much during my time in the Degrassi fandom and our little Triles corner, from how to make friends to how to analyze media to how to navigate fandom dynamics to how to run events/projects. I have taken all of that with me as I’ve grown as a person and I am capitalizing on what I learned, both in and out of fandoms. 

So, thank you to everyone who was around in the Degrassi/Triles fandom back then. You all shaped me and gave me so amazing memories. I am happy to have Triles be apart of my fandom story, and my story as a person.

Here’s to six years of having Triles in our life and to the paths we have all diverged onto since our time together!
