Terrible Visions
A scrambled timeline is a timeline that has proceeded much like ours, except that some particular facet has been mixed up all over the place. For example, in the scrambled timeline we will consider today, our world's fictional stories have been told by different people, and in different ways.
Bryan Lee O'Malley, in this alternate timeline, is best known as the cartoonist responsible for Homestuck, a popular comic series about a group of children who become embroiled in a cosmic-scale video game known as Sburb. Although Homestuck is probably most often associated with the cult classic Edgar Wright-directed film adaptation released in 2016, the comics themselves are highly-regarded, and the film brought a new audience to them. Netflix has commissioned an animated continuation, The Homestuck Epilogues, which is due to be released soon.
Andrew Hussie, on the other hand, is a figure you're likelier to know if you're overly online. His "MS Paint Adventures" series - most notably including Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, which is kind of like Homestuck but weirder and hornier - have firmly remained a fixture of obsessive Twitter fandom culture. It doesn't help that the best-known iteration, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, is infamous for stretching thousands of pages of meandering digressions out of a simple and focused narrative starting point. Scott Pilgrim fans have developed something of a toxic reputation, which is not entirely deserved - although of course Knives discourse is interminable, and back in the fandom's heyday there were reportedly incidents of fans assaulting each other "for being evil exes".
Scott Pilgrim fandom was very big back in the day, though, and consequently it was a nexus for other creative figures who would go on to surpass Hussie. Perhaps foremost among these is indie developer Toby Fox. He was literally living in Hussie's basement when he produced ROSEQUARTZ, a universally-beloved retro Goonies-like RPG about a human hybrid boy born to a race of gem-based aliens. He's now developing an episodic spiritual successor, RAZORQUEST, with more overtly dark themes. It revolves around an inheritance dispute among a demon-summoning family.
Other foundational figures in this timeline's internet culture include Alison Bechdel, who helped get the webcomic scene started. Although she's now more seriously acclaimed for her personal memoirs, her gaming webcomic Press Start To Dyke, which premiered in 1998, was once everywhere. It had a broad appeal, and at its height, it was common to see even straight guys sharing pages from it. Time has not been especially kind to it, though, and at this point its main legacy is test.png, a meme spawned by one of the comic's most ill-advised pages.
Then there's John C. McCrae, more often known by his pseudonym Wildbow. A prolific and reclusive author of doorstopping "web serials" - long-form fiction published online - McCrae's best-known serial is still his first, Wind, a noir superhero story set in an alternate history where capes are mostly just a subculture of unpowered vigilantes. Wind landed in a culture already rife with comic book deconstructions, like Alan Moore's 2002 graphic novel Worm Turns, but it nonetheless managed to stand out from the pack with its extensive cast of characters and its themes of coordination problems and the end of the world. Later McCrae web serials include Part (the first "Otherverse" serial; an urban fantasy story about a couple who die in a car accident and find that they have become ghosts), Tear (a "biopunk" story set in a collapsing underwater city), Warn (the controversial Wind sequel), and Play (the second "Otherverse" serial, set in a small Indiana town that helps hide a psychic girl from the CIA).
Last and perhaps least, we should discuss J. K. Rowling. Far and away the most famous of any of these authors, Rowling's name is inseparable from the YA series that she debuted with, the Luz Noceda books, which remain her one successful work. Although it was heavily derivative of older fantasy novels - like Jill Murphy's Academy For Little Witches, or Philip Pullman's Methods Of Rationality trilogy - Luz Noceda was still a monumental and unprecedented success in the publishing industry, and the film adaptations were consistent blockbusters. The final book, Luz Noceda and the Watcher of Rain, contained some allusions to a romantic relationship between Luz and her recently-redeemed associate Amity. Rowling confirmed that this was her intent in subsequent interviews and indicated that she had fought her publishers for it; the film would then go on to escalate matters slightly further.
There have been many lengthy and heated online arguments as to whether the references in the book itself constitute text or mere subtext. Whatever your stance on this discourse, a new complication has been introduced recently: although she has put out no official statement on the matter as of yet, it has become quite apparent from Rowling's shrinking network of contacts and her conspicuous silences that she is certainly TERF-sympathetic, and likely an outright TERF herself. For many, this is leading to a critical reevaluation of the social values inherent in the Luz Noceda series; others, to say the least, are holding off on that kind of reappraisal.
Anyway, Scott Pilgrim just beat Luz Noceda in a Twitter poll for Most Gay Media, and people are piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed

R.I.V. is a semi-serious object camp set on the immaterial plane - or, in more familiar terms - the United States. Hosted by Charloie Block, Kaleidoscope, and Pluto, who are all working together, in no uncertain terms, to give the world a really good show. R.I.V. takes some pretty heavy inspiration from online horror baseball simulator Blaseball - but no worries if you're unfamiliar with the game! Knowledge of Blaseball is not required to sign up.

My crazy roman empire is Lana and Armie's work and life parallel like in that it's always sunny in philadelphia conspiracy theory meme way
2010: Lana's debut studio album as Lana Del Ray, a.k.a Lizzy Grant // Armie's breakout role in The Social Network.
Fun fact: one of the songs is titled "Put Me In A Movie."
Armie also tied the knot that year.
2012-2013: Marked Lana's major-label debut with "Born To Die," a divisive album that jumpstarted her career but also faced enduring criticism from media and critics. // Armie experienced his first "flop" with big studio films in "Mirror Mirror" and "The Lone Ranger," but the real ones know they're actually golden lol.
2017: marked a pivotal moment for both Lana and Armie. Lana unveiled her first SMILE on her album titled LUST FOR LIFE (the antithesis of her pessimistic Born To Die), sounds like a stupid insignificant detail yet it resonated deeply with the fans, marking a departure from her "sad girl" persona. 🌻Brassius headcanons🌻 (companion post to this one, now with added imagery (a single screenshot but so worth it))
-In his mid-40s but refuses to accept it, which manifests in ways such as: pulling all-nighters like a young student, skipping/forgetting meals, continuing to make an impression on gym challengers by leaping from the tops of windmills, roofs, whatever's convenient. Any of these habits could break his fragile body. Speaking of which...
-He started doing the wild leaps in school as a cool stunt and way to show off and be memorable, but he has a private reason also — it's his way of defying death and mocking his illness. By gods he's going to live and not only that, he's going to do it in the most avant-garde way.
-tbh I haven't pinpointed exactly what is his chronic illness. Asthma? Hey wouldn't it be ironic if he has a severe pollen allergy while loving and being surrounded by plant pokemon? (just like me fr) Also I'm still on the idea a friend told me of him describing his symptoms as thorny vines in his lungs (which could be his creative way of describing a common asthma attack, and of course he styles his hair in the same manner because he's just Like That).
-Nature and the turns of seasons are his religion. He dabbled in paganism in his younger days. Found the modern practices too commercialized, but keeps it in his heart, in private.†
-Super pretty when he was younger. Wore his hair long, and with it being so thick and wavy, it cascaded about his (fuller, more lively) face and slender neck, even when he had it pulled into a ponytail. Stormy grey eyes always in deep contemplation of Art. Elegant ways of moving and speaking, radiating beauty with every step and word... honey what happened.
-(Nothing, it's all still there if you know what to look for and Hassel sure does, he is an expert on beauty, after all!)
-Hassel 💗💗 What a long, complex history he has with Hassel. They were good friends as students long ago, both being in arts & music classes. Brassius looked up to the multi-talented Hass from day one, always inspired by him and his bravery. Of course he fell in love with his muse, but for one reason or another, they never could quite be together, at least for very long. It might take Hassel until the present to reconcile his feelings, but will it be too late? (please I have a whole fic I want to write about this, of course I love them being Extremely Married but consider this: 20 years' worth of Mutual Gay Pining and the angst what follows)
-Just like born musician Hassel has some art in him, natural artist Brassius has some form of musical talent. After all, he's the Verdant Virtuoso — a term that skews toward musicians. I like to think he's got a good singing voice.* Belts out tunes while he's in the Art Zone. In perfect Spanish Paldean because he's bilingual.
-Whenever the mood strikes him (rarely, anymore), this guy can get a little kinky. He may carry a rope to help him climb high for tall sculptures (I guess???), but it also comes in handy for tying up unruly dragons~
-He's had many more partners in the past than Hassel has, and therefore a lot of practice. Not so much these days, however. His art, gym, and health come first.
-The Surrendering Sunflora Story: it's easy to tell that Brassius, at the beginning of his art career, let his personal vision suffer because he was focused on being more of a content creator, gaming that algorithm in endless pursuit of fame, fans, and money. The stress got to him, making his illness flare up to near-fatal levels. Was there anything else stressing him out at the time? Was he battling debilitating depression as well? Because he was prepared to die from it all — whether or not his debut work succeeded. And then Hassel appeared. "It was then I met Hass." So they must have become friends a little later in their student lives? Out of nowhere comes Hassel to remind Brassius of the meaning of Art, and that saves his life. Where's that meme picture of the creature holding onto a wall and going i think i need a moment wait
-It's p much universally accepted that Brassius gave Hassel the Applin that would evolve into the latter's Flapple. I think Brassie did so after the Surrendering Sunflora exhibition was complete to express his feelings. Unfortunately, Hassel, not being from this part of the world and unfamiliar with nearby Galar's customs, thinks it's simply a friendly gesture of appreciation. Hang in there, Brassie ❤️🩹
-Maybe once Hass figures it out he'll give Brassius a Dipplin in return.
"There are two bodies sharing one sweet home! It's more symbolic than the Applin, right? Surely they know this in Galar...?"
"No, Hass, Dipplin's apple is only found in a region that's very far away, so it doesn't have that kind of meaning..."

So I came across some pictures of the new issue in the tag for silver the hedgehog today, and thus also the "No use? NO USE????" thing... and as I rolled my eyes I knew, WITHOUT A DOUBT, that it had been Evan who wrote this issue. And I am not entirely sure it reflects well on her and her writing skills that that is the one thing that informs me about that, as I haven't kept track of who's been writing which issue recently in the slightest.😅
(But for real, I think the "It's no use!" meme is insanely overdone. It's not even funny, imo it never was, Archie also used to slap us in the face with it, please just let it die already. Give Silver some new, actually fun memes 2k23.)

Personally I rolled my eyes more at "Sayonara, city!", because bruh. bruh really. bruh you really going to use one of the most iconic, poignant lines in one of the most beloved game in the franchise, for a dumb forgettable filler arc. bruh you really equating SHADOW'S DEATH with the destruction of a bunch of buildings and rocks. bruh what are you doing.
(I haven't checked the reactions to the new issue, aside from some predictable tweets about the Whispangle teasing, but I remember people cheering when Surge stole Shadow's "you're not even good enough to be my fake" line in IS#4, so yeah I wouldn't be surprised if fans mostly were like "heyyyy i caught the reference :D")
But yeah, Silver's "it's no use" was forced to say the least. That joke stopped being funny 10 years ago. Silver has done more than being a shitty boss fight in his debut title. (i'm not even surprised that it was overused in archie lol, but at least back then it was slightly more relevant)
Admittedly I don't know how to feel about his pep talk to Shadow. It was very short and too "easy" of a solution for the problem Shadow was stuck in. But I can't really say it was OOC for Silver and the role he more or less assumed recently, and I'd take that over Cute uwu Cinnamon Roll.

Reception
Since the Tumblr blog's debut in 2010, bikwin5 has received positive reception. IGN's 2013 review scored it 8.2/10 and praised the humor aspect, saying that "you shouldn't be fooled by the memes about Shrek. If you can stomach a layer of irony, [bikwin5] contains some of the most cutting-edge humor on Tumblr."[¹] Game Informer gave it a 7/10, saying that the posts were "very funny, if derivative," but criticised the low frequency of posting.[²]
GameSpy gave it a 9/10 in 2015, stating that the new theme design was "very slick" and "a welcome change to an already great blog [...] one of the most overlooked hidden gems on the website."[³] IGN did a retrospective on their previous review, praising the redesign and saying that it "invites both new fans and returning followers alike."[⁴] Edge magazine was more critical, scoring the blog a 6/10 and criticising the quality of the jokes as well as the artwork posts. The posts were criticized for being "Not enough to appeal to any sort of fandom [...] only die-hard fans of immature cum jokes will stick with this blog."[⁵]
Recent reviews have remained positive. In 2018 PC Gamer gave a positive review, stating that bikwin5 is "a blog that most don't think about. But when you realize the sheer number of posts you've loved and didn't know were from this blog, like the mouse trap post or the Donkey Kong Country barrel post, you'll be following for more."[⁶] In 2021 GamesRadar gave it 4/5 stars, praising the improved visuals and writing.[⁷] The 2023 Reception post drew some mild criticism, as Eurogamer described it as "Having a bit of a self-wank."[⁸] As of February 2023, the blog has amassed over 1 million notes across 25,000 posts.[⁹]

Who THE FUCK is Vagrant?
We excuse ourselves for our foul language, this is a question that is driving us insane recently!
Who is he? What is he? What does he want? We won't have an answer just yet. BUT! We can speculate!
Vagrant is a character that has debuted in the ‘Everyone Is Dumb’ meme. And has made a second appearance in the most recent ‘God’ meme. This tells us this character is significant in some way. But HOW? And WHY?
We can get extra tidbits of information from his wiki page. It isn't much! But it's all we have! (For now!)
It says he is a beetle that comes from an unknown small town in search of “something better”. Presuming looking for something to spice up his life? Does he have a “something” in mind?
Even though he denies it, Vagrant has made contact with the Grimm Troupe before! We speculate that maybe he partook in a ritual with the troupe. Since we (assume) to see him harm himself during the ‘God’ animation meme and stand with a nightmare torch.
‘But doesn't Scarlet Swarm Grimm not do rituals?’ We hear you ask. Yes, he doesn't perform them… anymore. We speculated previously that maybe Vagrant’s involvement in the story is before the Hallownest and Grimm war. What if the events with Vagrant are why he doesn't perform them anymore?
However, Grimm’s aversion to rituals can also be explained by Grimm’s desire to not die or be rebirthed. It's not very clear what the Grimm Troupe ritual actually does to Grimm in the canon game. But it doesn't seem like a pleasant outcome, which could be a motive for him not to perform them.
Back to Vagrant. Another interesting fact is that he is a Cyphochilus beetle. Or a white beetle. In Hollow Knight lore all characters who have white bodies are associated with Hallownest’s royalty (not including the vessels and Hornet who have black bodies): The Pale King, The White Lady and all their servants. The White Lady and the Pale King are confirmed to be creatures called “pale beings”. This is not to just comment about their complexions, mostly. We mostly don't know what this title means for the late rulers of Hallownest but it can be assumed to give them special attributes. What if vagrant is also a pale being?
Almost nothing is known about Vagrant’s association with the Grimm Troupe. But we might be able to gleam some guesses from the available art and it’s imagery. As said before, he seems to be an outsider and not interested in joining the troupe. The wiki suggests that Vagrant has some influence over Grimm. Seen with how he has tangled a troupe torch with his red string. Which could symbolise how Grimm is figuratively tied or attached to Vagrant. Vagrant also seems to have some influence over some troupe members. As seen with Ameise who has red string decoratively wrapped on his hand.
Vagrant also seems able to be able to cause some violence. He is no passive Wanderer. In ‘Everyone Is Dumb’ he is seen having blood on his cloak. He is also proficient using a knife on a red string, presumingly as a weapon.
