I threw those tags out there fully expecting no one to actually poke me about it and I'm really happy you did :)

Mutuals who know me from elsewhere,,, I already put a summary of this under the story time thread so I guess I have no excuses for not making this public

I'm writing a fic based of the DBHC au (Detroit Become Hermitcraft) comics by Shepscapades (if you're not familiar with it, I highly recommend you check out their blog!! I have SUCH brainrot and the storyline and art are so compelling)

DBHC is a Hermitcraft narrative of sorts that makes use of the android mechanics from the video game Detroit Become Human

here (1), here (2) and here (3) is sort of where it all starts (but I highly recommend looking through the DBHC au tag on their profile <- that link's in reverse chronological order btw so you don't have to scroll down first)

Basically, Xisuma designs androids (like Mumbo, Etho, Impulse and Doc) to assign to some of the hermits (Grian, Bdubs, Pearl and Ren to name a few) at some point around season 8 or maybe earlier, and they help with things like building, terraforming and probably resource gathering.

And at first they're androids, like "command me to do this and I will", but then they deviate, sometimes through a traumatic event or just by nature for whatever reason, and become more human, sentient in a way. And after Etho deviates, him and Bdubs start to become very close friends, with feelings attached, but the gist I get is that Etho doesn't entirely know what he's experiencing, and I think Bdubs is... probably in denial.

anyway, I could go on for hours about this but that's the basis of Shepscapade's DBHC au.

I'm writing an incredibly fluffy (and fighting the urge to write angst. but I may include a pinch, we'll see) oneshot about the two of them. Current plans is that they've been planting saplings (Etho was originally designed to help with terraforming and that, after all) and it's late afternoon, so Bdubs being Bdubs is very, very tired.

And tired people are clingy, they let their guard down a bit, they start giving in slightly to things they don't have enough energy to fight.

Like the urge to reach out and go hey, come back, I actually want you to play with my hair, I want you to lie with me in the sunshine, I want to listen to the sound of your android heart (thirium pump) because it's a reassurance that even though my eyes are closed you're still nearby, I want you here, and I'm going to hang on to you because I don't ever want you to leave again.

When you said 'make mumbo even more downbad', I read 'make mumbo even more download' and I didn't know how Mumbo could be more downloadable, but I did know that the idea scared me.

Okay so it definitely wouldn't work in rift au but now im. Rotating Mumbo as a form of computer intelligence that can download into a robot [I guess???? kind of like DBH/ @/shepscapades DBHC AU which is lovely and everyone needs to go get their eyes on it STAT] [though, tbf, I am imagining an entirely different retrofuturism vibe. think more The Jetsons.] !!! Maybe he was human before and downloaded his brain and memories into a computer and it was installed into a robot so that he could live forever and then Scar and Grian are from the future where this is taking place and I could do a bunch of wild sci fi things with the s9 builds i am. hm. OH. OH. S6. GRIANS FUTURE BASE. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

At long last… the story of how Mumbo Deviates! I realize this is the most anticlimactic response i could've given to the crazy number of asks I’ve gotten wondering how Mumbo deviates and asking how angsty or heartbreaking or dramatic it is… but hear me out okay. The idea that mumbo is just doing Normal, Day-To-Day android stuff and some random mob just. spooks him so bad that he deviates on the spot and never tells a soul is not only Hilarious but it also feels Really in character DLFGKJFGJ

37. GUY.EXE — Superfruit

Okay so this song started as a joke, because I wasn’t originally going to have Skizz be an android; I thought it would be really funny if this Normal Guy was just always surrounded by his robot besties and the Perpetual Odd Guy Out. But, the more I listened to this song, the more I realized how much funnier it would be if the narrative/this song was basically “Doc, Impulse, Tango, Etho, and Mumbo all set out to create the ~perfect android~ together but are ridiculously silly and gay about it, and also the perfect android ends up being Skizz, and also also the design elements suggested by our fellow hermits here are uh. Not indicative of anything at all. Nope!” And the concept was just way too fun not to run with :]

Again with this one, you really won’t get the vibes here unless you know or listen to the song— the second shot is actually a redraw from the music video, so kudos if you got that reference LMAO I was SO hoping someone would request this number, so thank you joi >:D Incredible opportunity for me to draw these guys with ridiculous poses and expressions alongside finally getting to share Skizz’s spectacular origin story <3

This is an idea that a friend suggested months and months ago that I’m happy I finally got to put on proverbial paper (in which grian thinks it would be hilarious for (non deviant) mumbo to do some goofy hacking to mess with doc! And, uh. Naturally, mumbo comes back with no recollection of the command and also every time he tries to say grian’s name, an audio clip of doc saying “‘idiot” comes out instead)

Y'all have not! I think Etho and Mumbo's deviations are the only ones you've seen happen, though we know vaguely that Doc's deviation was relatively uneventful-- that it was a product of his programming rather than an event that "broke" him.

(Mumbo was designed specifically for his redstone capabilities, but since this au started in season 8, Mumbo was also programmed to Not Kill Things as an effort from X to hopefully keep Grian from causing too much trouble… however grian and scar both have no clue and keep asking him to fetch things that Specifically Require Mob Drops which causes an endless cycle of mumbo creating ridiculous complicated contraptions to complete extremely mundane tasks, much to grian and scar’s bewilderment and amusement)
