The Serving Library Annual 2019/20⁣ Bruno Munari Obvious Code⁣ Available at www.draw-down.com⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ The core of the annual is the first English translation of Obvious Code, the 1971 collection of Munari’s own writings, sketches and poems about his own work, published by arrangement with Corraini, who issued the book's anastatic edition in 2017. It includes iconic design objects such as the Abitacolo, ground-breaking artworks such as his 1952 series of hand-made projection slides, and little known rhymes about the art market, as well as an original piece from his “unreadable books” series.⁣ ⁣ #DavidReinfurt #StuartBertolottiBailey #BrunoMunari #Design #GraphicDesign #dDrawDown (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7XSQxmnjGe/?igshid=932ghq4e412q

A New Program for Graphic Design⁣ Available at www.draw-down.com ⁣ ⁣ A toolkit for visual literacy in the 21st century. The first communication-design textbook expressly of and for the 21st century. Three courses—Typography, Gestalt and Interface—provide the foundation of this book.⁣ ⁣ Through a series of in-depth historical case studies (from Benjamin Franklin to the Macintosh computer) and assignments that progressively build in complexity, A New Program for Graphic Design serves as a practical guide both for designers and for undergraduate students coming from a range of other disciplines.⁣ ⁣ Synthesizing the pragmatic with the experimental, and drawing on the work of Max Bill, Beatrice Warde, Muriel Cooper and Stewart Brand (among many others), it builds upon mid- to late-20th-century pedagogical models to convey contemporary design principles in an understandable form for students of all levels—treating graphic design as a liberal art that informs the dissemination of knowledge across all disciplines.⁣ ⁣ For those seeking to understand and shape our increasingly networked world of information, this guide to visual literacy is an indispensable tool.⁣ ⁣ #graphicdesign #DavidReinfurt #InventoryPress (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B32KK-ZHF4B/?igshid=ek2311vijer7

Muriel Cooper / Available at www.draw-down.com / The career of the pioneering designer #MurielCooper whose work spanned media from printed book to software interface. By #DavidReinfurt and #RobertWiesenberger / Muriel Cooper (1925–1994) was the pioneering #designer who created the iconic #MITPress colophon (or logo)—seven bars that represent the lowercase letters “mitp” as abstracted books on a shelf. She designed a modernist monument, the encyclopedic volume The Bauhaus (1969), and the graphically dazzling and controversial first edition of Learning from Las Vegas (1972). She used an offset press as an artistic tool, worked with a large-format Polaroid camera, and had an early vision of e-books. Cooper was the first #designdirector of the MIT Press, the co-founder of the Visible Language Workshop at MIT, and the first woman to be granted tenure at MIT's Media Lab, where she developed software interfaces and taught a new generation of designers. She began her four-decade career at MIT by designing vibrantly printed flyers for the Office of Publications; her final projects were digital. Back in Stock! Shannon Ebner - A Public Character / Available at www.draw-down.com / Designed by #JuliaBorn. Artist book and catalog published on the occasion of Shannon Ebner's first major American solo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami. The Los Angeles-based artist's work across mediums—emerging from and referencing photography through a collaborative practice that includes sculpture, poetry, performance, and video—critically explores the role of images in the world. Includes collaborations with graphic designers #DavidReinfurt and #MarkOwens - as well as multiple essays which trace Ebner's historical interpretations and her efforts to reflect upon our experience of language today, particularly at the intersection of landscape and architecture. Ebner's works demonstrate an artist's efforts to build a catalog of typographical imagery and reflect on the unstable nature of such an archive. #graphicdesign #typography #ShannonEbner
