"i'll be there for you" universe masterlist
pairing: bestfriend!roommate!steve harrington x fem!reader
word count: 3.2k words
warnings: explicit language, some mentions of alcohol, parent drama (both reader’s and steve’s parents suck)
summary: in which your parents and steve’s come over for dinner
author's note: this has absolutely nothing to do with the harry styles song but the title of it is just very fitting so yeah<33 i’ve been rewatching a lot of gilmore girls this fall season so i feel like that's helped me get the hang of writing awkward/tense dinners with family lol so this needed to be done
general note: everything in this universe/series can be read as standalone oneshots but to understand the full “lore” it would prob be best to read the other stuff too<333
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Fall 1985
When your and Steve’s parents first suggested this “early Thanksgiving dinner,” you thought that it wouldn’t actually happen.
The initial idea sounded pretty funny to you— your parents and Steve’s parents would have a full on dinner at your apartment a week before the actual holiday. Yeah, right.
It sounded like the kind of idea that parents that really cared about spending time with their children would have, and that wasn’t how you’d necessarily describe yours or Steve’s.
A month ago, when they told you about the ski trip the four of them were going on during the entire week of Thanksgiving, you expected to just not see them probably until Christmas— and that felt like a bit of relief to you because spending time with your parents wasn’t your favorite hobby.
But then you remembered how, only during the holidays, your parents always had a need to show, or maybe more so “prove” to themselves, that they actually cared about you. So, of course, they wouldn’t let this stupid holiday go, and instead they thought that it would be best if you all did something early and together.
And sadly, none of the immediate excuses that you and Steve came up with worked because your moms had solutions for everything.
When you told yours that the kitchen in the apartment was too small to cook for this kind of elaborate dinner, she simply told you that they’d buy and bring all of the food and you and Steve wouldn’t have to cook at all. She also not-so-jokingly mentioned that she would’ve never trusted either of you two cooking anyway.
And when Steve told his mom that the current dining table you two had was way too small to fit all six of you, she promptly had one ordered and delivered to your door in just a week. It was an expensive dark wood set that could comfortably fit six people, and you and Steve spent hours struggling to build it the day it showed up at your front door. It took up an obscene amount of space, but it did actually look kind of nice.
Now it was weeks later and the dreaded night was finally here, but you still tried to come up with any way to avoid it from happening.
“And we’re sure that we really can’t get out of doing this tonight?” You asked Steve as you folded the blanket that was lying half-hazardly on the couch. “I could call my mom and say that we’ve somehow fallen tragically ill in the last hour?”
“I’m ninety-five percent sure that they’re all already on their way.”
“Shit.”
“It’ll be fine,” Steve said, and then he considered his words. “Actually, it will probably suck, but overall, we will be fine.”
You let out a sigh and placed the now folded blanket back on the couch and then started cleaning off the coffee table, stacking the random magazines in a neat pile and then adjusting Harold’s cage so that it was nicely in the center. Your and Steve’s shared pet hamster was currently nibbling on the food that you had put in his bowl only moments ago.
An abrupt feeling of worry shot through you as you looked around the apartment. The place was clean— probably the cleanest it had ever been— since you and Steve had spent the day doing everything to avoid either of your parents saying anything bad about the place. However, in the grand scheme of things, you knew that it didn’t matter because they’d still hate the apartment. They would hate how you two decided to furnish and decorate it, and they would passive aggressively make fun of the place for however long this dinner would have to be.
“Let’s try not to think about how bad this night is gonna be and just be glad that we’re not gonna have to suffer alone, like usual,” Steve said, practically reading your mind and the look on your face, as he started setting plates out on the new table.
He was completely right. This was the first time that a collective Thanksgiving was happening among all of you. Usually, it was just you alone with your parents in Chicago visiting family members that you never talked to, and Steve was doing the same exact thing except he was in Indianapolis. You’d always end up calling each other at the end of the night from the hotel or family house you were staying at, and you’d tell each other stories about whatever weird family members you encountered or how boring it all was.
It did make things feel a bit better that, for once, you didn’t have to go through this alone and neither did Steve.
“You’re right,” You said with a nod and then smiled. “We’ll be going through this shitshow together.”
As if on cue, there was a knock at the door and since Steve was closer he went to answer it. You took one brief and final look around the apartment before heading toward the door too, so Steve didn’t have to be by himself in this greeting.
“Hi,” He said when he opened the door and saw all of your parents standing there. There was a bright smile on his face and he effortlessly turned on that “Steve Harrington charm” that people had adored in high school— you hadn’t even gone to the same high school as him, but you still heard so many of the stories.
A chorus of Hi’s and Hello’s were heard as your moms entered the apartment first since they were carrying all of the food and your dads followed in right behind them.
“I still hate that you moved into a place that doesn’t have a front doorman, or, at least, a buzzer system,” Were your dad’s first words to you; deciding against saying the simple “How are you?” that you had expected. “You two should get a better lock on your door.”
You laughed a bit. “We live in Hawkins, not New York, Dad. I don’t think anyone is really itching to rob us anytime soon.”
“Anything can happen,” He responded, looking at you seriously. “I’ll bring you a new one when we get back from Colorado.”
You only nodded at his words instead of saying anything to rebut them; you knew that he overall meant well. “Okay.”
Your attention turned to your mom and she pulled you into a hug that felt way too forced before pulling away and giving you a quick onceover. “Oh… Is that what you’re wearing?”
You thought that your outfit was fine; a V-neck navy blue knit sweater that was a bit cropped and a simple pair of black jeans. But, your mom always managed to find something wrong with everything, so this reaction to your current outfit didn’t necessarily surprise you; it did still annoy you all the same, though.
“Oh, um, no I was just about to change,” You told her and forced a small smile.
She nodded at that. “Okay, that’s good, that’s good. You go change while Christine and I get the table set up.”
You started heading toward your room but looked back at Steve first. He was in a conversation with his parents that looked like they were doing much more of the talking than him. As if sensing your gaze on him, his eyes met yours and he gave you a hopeful look and that was enough to make you feel a little better.
It didn’t take long for you to change. You kept your sweater on but traded your jeans for the long black silk skirt that your mom had always liked on you. You hoped this slightly different outfit would be enough to satisfy her, and if not, you were willing to suffer through her inevitable look of disappointment.
You lingered in your room, tidying up your desk for no particular reason and then deciding to remake your bed. It was clear that you were stalling, avoiding having to face your parents again, and as much as you wanted to continue doing that, you also didn’t want to leave Steve to fend for himself. You were supposed to be suffering together, after all.
You immediately noticed the dining table when you walked out of your bedroom. The food was now nicely set out and there were even brown placemats sitting underneath the plates that Steve had already set out. It was all set up in a way that would’ve felt nice and wholesome if either of your families had ever remotely felt like the ones portrayed in most TV shows or movies. But, they weren’t anywhere close to being like that, so this all just felt weirdly forced.
Of course, you didn’t say that, though.
Instead, you sat down with everyone at the table and desperately hoped that the next few hours of your life would breeze by.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
“From the brochure, the pictures of the cabin look really great. We hope it actually looks that way in person,” Steve’s mom, Christine, said.
You took another bite of the mac and cheese on your plate as you continued to listen to your parents talk about their ski trip that was happening next week, which they had been doing for the last twenty minutes and you fully didn’t mind it. Since the conversation wasn’t centered on either you or Steve, things actually didn’t feel tense or nervewracking. If you could just make your parents talk about themselves during the entire dinner, you would probably end the night with a smile on your face.
“Oh, and there are a lot of bedrooms too,” Your mom chimed in before taking another sip from the wine glass in her hand. “Maybe you two could take a trip up there soon and invite your friends to go too.”
“Yeah, that would be nice,” You said with a small nod.
“Enough talking about the trip, though, that’s probably so boring for your kids to hear about,” Your dad said, and you internally sighed because you knew the exact direction the conversation was about to go in. You felt him look at you. “How’s school been going? The semester is almost over.”
“It’s been good,” You answered, keeping your response short and sweet. You decided not to mention that you really couldn’t care less about the majority of your classes because none of what you were doing in any of them felt like it really mattered.
“Okay, and your grades and everything are fine, right?”
You only nodded in response to his question, hoping that your lack of actual words would signal to him that you wanted to bring an end to this topic of conversation. Of course, that was only wishful thinking.
“That’s good,” Your mom said. “You have to make sure your grades stay like how they were in high school, or even better, for when you transfer to the University of Chicago. We don’t want to have any reason for them not to accept you again.”
You suddenly felt like you were right back in middle school and high school, where your conversations with your parents solely revolved around school; what your grades were, if you were doing your homework and completing assignments on time, and studying for tests. It always annoyed you that the only times they would bother to pay attention to you was when it came to that stuff. Other than that, you were always seemingly an afterthought, never a bigger priority than their jobs.
In a way, this entire conversation should’ve been expected; it was always inevitable. Pretty much anytime you talked to your parents in recent months, the discussion always seemed to circle its way back to that school and you going there in two years instead of right now, like they had wanted you to.
“I’m still so surprised that you decided to not go to the University of Chicago now,” Christine said and you turned your attention to her. It was starting to feel a bit painful to you that the subject still hadn’t changed yet. “When Steve told me that you were going to go to the community college close by, I couldn’t believe it, honestly.”
You noticed your parents share a look upon hearing her words. The mix of disappointment and annoyance toward you that was shared between them in that moment felt palpable.
“I didn’t think it was time to leave Indiana just yet. I’ll be going soon, though,” You said, keeping your voice light and plastering on a fake smile, even though all you wanted to do in that moment was leave the table and hideout in your bathroom for the rest of the night.
You saw your dad smile a little and then you also noticed the look of relief wash over your mom’s face. For some stupid reason, you still felt the need to make them feel pleased with you. And somehow that made you feel even more upset with yourself than anything they had said to you so far tonight.
The only thing that managed to make things feel remotely tolerable right then was Steve sitting across from you, giving you a look that said, “Everything will be okay.” For the time being, you chose to believe him and you simply took another bite of your food.
You were about to say something about how good the turkey was so your moms would start talking about the restaurant they got all of the food from and why they chose it— you were sure that there was some story behind it all— and that would finally bring an end to the college conversation. But, before a word could leave your mouth, Steve’s dad began speaking.
“Well, at least, you’re in college. We can’t say the same for Steve here.” He then looked at his son. “Do you really want to work at a video store for the rest of your life?”
Christine let out a sigh. “Jeff.”
“What?” He shrugged as if his previous question wasn’t completely condescending. “I’m just asking a question.”
“I’m actually starting at the community college next semester,” Steve told his parents and you tried to hide your immediate confusion. “I found out I got in a few days ago.”
“Well, that’s great,” Christine said happily, and Jeff smiled approvingly as well.
You had no idea Steve had gotten in or even applied, and you wondered if he was lying right then to just get his parents off his back, but you couldn’t tell. Something about the way he said it honestly felt pretty real. The only part that didn’t feel real was that you were finding out during this dumb dinner instead of at any other time.
“So, I was wondering,” Your mom began and you braced yourself for the impact of whatever she was going to say. “Why did you two decide to get a hamster? I feel like it makes things smell a bit funny in here…”
A part of you was glad that the conversation finally shifted away from college. But you didn’t think that the passive aggressive comments toward the apartment would begin with Harold.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
“Well, this night was fucking brutal.”
You let out a sigh. “You took the words right out of my mouth.”
Steve was doing the dishes as you put what was left of the food into tupperwares and then put them in the fridge. Surprisingly, it was a lot of stuff leftover; your moms definitely went overboard with the amount they had ordered. You and Steve already made plans to invite Robin and Eddie over tomorrow to have some of these leftovers.
“I’m actually glad that the dessert tasted bad since it made them want to leave early.”
“It was honestly a bit bittersweet because I was kind of excited for that pie,” You said as you placed the final tupperware of food into the fridge and then went over to Steve. “Oh, and also,” You punched his arm and ignored his immediate “ouch.” “Why the hell didn’t you tell me that the stars have finally managed to align and we’ll finally be going to the same school for the first time ever?”
He smiled a little at your dramatics. “I didn’t wanna make a big deal out of it just in case I somehow didn’t end up getting in. I swear I was gonna tell you tomorrow.”
“So, you did all of that annoying application stuff by yourself?”
“Robin helped me with it.”
“I would’ve been happy to help you,” You told him, and maybe you were being a bit overdramatic, but you actually felt slightly offended that he hadn’t wanted to come to you about this.
The possibility of you two going to the same middle or high school was a far out idea that never happened because you lived in different towns. But, it was still something that was adamantly and wistfully talked about by you and him; how much more fun both of your school lives could be if they intersected in that way like the other parts of your lives did.
Of course, going to the same college would’ve been the most obvious way for it to finally happen, but Steve never seemed that interested in going to college, and up until the last possible second you were being pushed toward Chicago by your parents.
But now things were finally different.
“I know that you would’ve, but I didn’t want to talk about it to anyone, honestly. Robin saw me working on the application one day and decided to help,” He explained and you only gave him a small nod in response. “I didn’t even think I’d tell my parents about it, but when I heard my dad’s dumb comment about Family Video I felt like I had to say it so he wouldn’t keep looking at me like a disappointment.” He sighed. “And it’s kinda fucked up… I really don’t wanna care what my parents think about me and what I’m doing with my life, but I think there will always be a part of me that does.”
You thought back to your dad’s approving smile and your mom’s relieved look when you reassured them that you still planned to go to the University of Chicago; how much you still wanted to make them feel at least a little proud of you even though you knew you shouldn’t.
“Me too,” You said softly.
“I’m glad we probably won’t have to see them again until Christmas.”
You sighed. “Apparently, my dad is gonna bring us a new lock for the door when they get back from their trip.”
“Oh,” Steve said and then smiled at you when it looked like he thought of something. “Okay, what are the odds that he’ll just send someone to put the new lock on the door instead of coming himself?”
You thought about it for a second. “Honestly, I’d say there’s a pretty good chance that would happen. He’ll probably be too busy with work after the trip to actually come and do it himself.”
“Okay, let’s hope for that,” He said as he finished washing the last plate and placed it on the drying rack. “So, since the dessert was a bust tonight, do you wanna go to the diner? I’m sure Mary would never fuck up her apple pie. And then when we get back, we can finish that bottle of wine that our moms left.”
You smiled at his suggestion. “You have a brilliant mind, Harrington.”

Embracing Feelings and Family (Rayleigh x gn!winged!child!reader)
A/N: Not sure how to feel about this one., I think is really mid, maybe it’s just because of the dark nature of the piece itself but idk. I think this goes without saying based on the request but beware of the dark undertones of this piece as it portrays human slavery and auctioning. I couldn’t come up with something for mihawk so I went with our favorite grandpa

“Up next, we have ourselves a true rarity! This one will blow your minds; we have a winged child! You can fly it around as you want or even have them carry you around the skies! They can even deliver you special things in a fraction of a time!” The announcer enthusiastically explained
“Let us start the bid at 10 Million Berry! Who offers 10 Million Berry?!”
“Let me go, you Jerks! Im not an item!” The child growls, banging on the cage’s bars
Charlos awes childishly before throwing out the first bid
“It’s a big Bird! It’s a Big Bird! 50 million Berry!” He yelled out joyfully before waving happily to the child in the cage
“Grandpa will get you all! Grandpa will save me, you gross creeps!”
The bidders ignore the child’s threats, continuing to bid
“60 million!” A man in the back screams
“80 million!” Another man hollers back
“I’ll do 800 million!” Charlos shouts back while waving his arms frantically in the air excitedly
“D-Does somebody bid any higher?”
“800 million….” “Awe, man, I was excited to have it too!” The crowd mutters
“Going in 3!
Going in 2!
Going in 1!
Sold!
The winged child goes to Saint Charlos for 800 million berry!”
Reader screams as they open the door to their cage and begin pulling on the chains, trying to pull them out and take him toward Charlos.
“Don’t touch me!” They sneered, throwing a kick toward the handler that was closest to them
The handler dodges out of the way and gives them a look.
“Rude little one, don’t bite the hand that feeds you!” The handler growls
“You have just been bought for a very generous amount of money for no one less than a Saint himself! A nobody like you should be Grateful!” They turn towards The Saint and bow
“A-Apologies for its insolence Saint Charlos; if I may, I’ll gladly teach it some manners for you; no need to trouble someone of your status to teach slaves some tricks.”
Charlos groans, sticking his finger in his nose.
“Could you hurry it up? I want to fly it!”
“Yes, Yes, of course; im sure you must be extremely busy, Saint Charlos. I promise not to take more time than is needed!” they assure him, turning around towards the child
“Now come here, you stupid brat,” they growl, raising a baton towards them.
“You will learn to listen!" the exclaim, bringing the baton down, but instead of receiving a blow, the man before them falls to the ground, knocked unconscious.
Reader sighs with relief when the man falls to the ground, the people in the auctioning house following the familiar pattern they have come to expect from their grandpa’s powerful Haki
“Grandpa!” They say, trying to flutter their way to Rayleigh but are cut short due to the chains binding them, causing them to plummet to the ground
“Ow”
“Geez, Reader.”
Rayleigh sighs calmly as he wrenches the chains from them easily, not paying any mind to the explosions that followed once they were removed.
“You seem to be able to get yourself in all kinds of trouble,” He says calmly as he sets the child back down
“Haven’t I told you not to get near this place and much less showing off those wings of yours?”
“What was it this time?” He asks as he looks them over for injuries
“I tried to fly higher…but a wind current caught me, and I couldn’t get myself out from it; it dragged me here, and they brought me here.”
“A wind current?” Rayleigh asks curiously
“One strong enough to drag even you, that’s pretty surprising, to say the least,” He says as he continues to look them over
“Are you alright? Have you sustained any injuries?”
“Im okay.”
“Alright, good to know,” He says as he scoops them up and leaves the wretched place.
“That must have been scary, huh? Im sorry it took me so long to get there; my body doesn’t move the way I want to anymore.”
“I wasn’t scared,” they mutter
“It’s okay, you know.”
“What?”
“To be scared for one’s life from time to time it’s not something one should be ashamed to admit; it doesn’t make us any less brave; you have the right to be scared, just as much as you have the right to be brave.”
“Your feelings are real; you shouldn’t deny them,” He says as he continues to carry them
They stare at him as their eyes begin to water
He smiles gently
“Just let it out, Reader; no one will think less of you for being scared.”
They hug him tighter, diving their head in his shirt as sobs start escaping them
“T-They kept calling me ‘it,’ they kept saying how they would fly me around like I was a kite,” they sob
He ran his fingers through their hair while he let them continue to cry, hugging them back tightly as he did.
He couldn’t help the anger he felt rising when thinking about what had happened inside the auction house
He rubs their back gently as he continues to walk
“Nothing that they told you in it is true; Reader, do not listen to their words; you are invaluable and your own person, not someone to be owned,” He says
“I -I know b-but the way they said it, they meant it, Grandpa; I was nothing but an item for them to use in their eyes.”
He pulls them a bit more tightly as he did
"I know, some people are like that, wretched beings who enjoy stepping in other people and causing them misery simply because they can."
“You are someone special to me; always remember that; you are the biggest treasure for me and your grandmother,” He says gently as they rub their back
"Now what do you say we go back to the shack and ask Grandma to make you your favorite drink?" they offer, chuckling when they feel the child nooding
"Can we add extra chocolate to it?"
"Anything you want, Reader," he smiles, knowing that it would take a long time and effort to build their confidence and sense of security back to where it was after everything that had happened, but they would get there together.

something ends, something begins.
reflection, rambling, and ritual for the winter solstice - and beyond. part two: shortest day.
Tumblr media
as the labours of nature and patient hands end in bounty during the weeks of harvest, the labours of the spirit culminate when most of nature lies embraced by winter — tired, hardened, and burdened by months of ever-growing darkness, the soul seeks to be renewed and soothed from pain. in a cycle older than humans and lakes, things die and things are born, light dies and light is born.
as the cold sun triumphs over the dark, as the light bites back at the night and slowly overtakes it, let yourself triumph with it: as you go through the longest night and enter the time of light reborn, unburden yourself - and sing, and rejoice as you rise with the sun:
unyielding.
look inwards to understand what the light - and its triumph - mean to you. whether it is more sunlight making the hardships of every day easier to bear, whether it is reborn joy and hope, or perhaps a symbol of personal improvement and deep recovery, physical or emotional - reflect on it. think of ways in which you can recognise the impact of this light, ways in which you can appreciate it, and ways in which you can reward yourself for noticing it or acting on it.
witness the sunrise: if you can, stay up through the night to see the sun rise on the shortest day, or wake up earlier, or find a moment to focus on it away from everyday responsibilities. find a place where you can see the sun, even if there's clouds. tomorrow the sun will rise again, and the day will be longer, bit by bit. witness its path, witness its effort - the night was so long and so dark, yet the sun rises again, and again, and again. light triumphs.
pay attention to the sun throughout the day: whenever you can, look out the window or look up at the sky, find the sun. track its path through the skies, and each time you look at it, make the effort to think something good in connection to yourself.
think of something you achieved this year, against all odds. think of something good or hard you managed to do. think about something you like about yourself. recall a good childhood memory, a song you love, or a moment you were happy. make plans to do something kind towards yourself in the upcoming days or months: think of small rewards, vacation plans, favourite treats, orgasms, rewatching a favourite movie or reaching out to someone who makes you feel good. every single time you see the sun, think of yourself and something good.
fast and indulge: this does not have to be fasting in the strict food-related meaning, but a focused effort on consciously refusing yourself a given pleasure until sunset, and then appreciating it twofold after.
it can be food, of course, with just a light breakfast and water throughout the day, but it can be music, it can be sweets, it can be a different comfort you can safely bar yourself from for the duration of daylight. once the sun sets - knowing it will rise tomorrow again, stronger and brighter - rejoice and indulge! eat your favourite meal or have your favourite coffee, listen to a favourite song, take an elaborate indulgent bath with soft and comforting clothes to keep you warm after. or sleep, and sleep a lot, and happily! a symbolic death or denial - and a symbolic rebirth and rejoicing later.
make sure this day is as about yourself as possible. be kind to yourself, find pleasure and joy, reward yourself for persevering through the darkness -
and for the fact that, like the sun, tomorrow you will rise again. stronger and brighter, and unyielding.

18 + MINORS DO NOT INTERACT
It was late and you were curled up in bed rewatching Naruto for the 100th time before bed. You hated being alone but your boyfriend Nicholas was on tour and wouldn't be home for a couple more weeks so you slept with the TV on every night to ease your loneliness. You had tried to call Nick like you did every night after his show but he didn't answer so you went a grabbed one of his large T shirts and doused it in his cologne before putting it on and slipping into bed. You don't know what time you eventually dozed off but you awoke to a sound in your kitchen. Terrified you grabbed the little pink pocketknife in your nightstand and slowly crept towards the noise to investigate. Rounding the corner you see two large men in black ski masks rummaging through your kitchen.
You tried to sneak back into your bedroom to grab your cellphone to call for help but accidentally tripped in the dark alerting the intruders to your presence.
Both men quickly look up seeing you sprawled out on the floor and quickly make their way towards you. You scramble to your feet as fast as you can run if into your bedroom slamming the door in attempt to shut it and lock it but it was too late one of the men had already caught up and forced his knee in the crack preventing you from closing it all the way. You fought for dominance but he was much larger than you and forced himself through the door with ease. You slowly backed into your room holding your knife out in front of you, knuckles white, breathing heavily in fear. The man chucked lowly as he slowly stalked towards you. His dark eyes looking at you hungrily through the black ski mask.
"What are you planning on doing with that princess?" He laughs slowly inching his way  closer and closer like a lion getting ready to pounce on its prey.
You slice at the air attempting to cut him but he catches your wrist in his large tattooed hand forcing your arm behind your back, knife clattering on the floor. He pulls your body flush into his your heartbeat pounding with a mixture of fear and excitement. He forces you to the bed covering your mouth to prevent you from yelling as the second man enters the room. The aggressively bind your arms behind you and force you to your knees .
"Well look at you” the other man says softly his icy blue eye boring into you. He softly brushes your hair out of your face tucking it behind your ear sending a shiver down your body.
"Please I won't tell anyone you were here just take what you want and leave please don't hurt me"
The first man laughs pushing up the sleeves of his black turtleneck revealing a sea of cherry waves that danced across his toned forearms.
“Oh trust me baby doll we will be taking exactly what we want tonight.” He breathes into your ear his hot breath tickling the bare skin of your neck involuntarily causing your nipples to harden and your core to ache.
Swallowing sharply you take a shaky breath before asking “what are you going to do to me?”

favorite visual moments from the new season?
Ooh that's a tough one! (Although I do have a lil compilation of some of my favourite symbolic shots from prior seasons here <3 definitely not-conclusive though) But there are some definite favourites!
I loved the consistent wrist-chain-hand clasp thing going on in Finnegrin's Wake (and Viren's dark magic dreams) so much I actually wrote a meta all about it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also adored this shot of the broyals with the keyhole from Finnegrin's office - just very creative and I'm always on the lookout for anything to do with keys
Tumblr media
This shot of Rayla lined up with the lamb in the portrait makes me more nervous than it probably should and was another major fave
Tumblr media
Any and all shots up on the Storm Spire surrounded by clouds is a definite win 10/10. I loved the sharp lighting in the scenes with Viren and Kpp'Ar
Tumblr media
Lux Aurea has also always been my favourite location so getting to go into the streets more in depth/detail and with the purple haze to everything? Truly stunning. Special shout out to the actual outside of the Bookery as well
Tumblr media
The scene in the cave with Sol Regem was amazing and water animation has always been my fave kind of animation, so anything with rain in particular this season (Claudia, Terry, and Ezran facing the storms / the various boats sailing) was so much fun / striking visually. The transition of the prison into the moon predictably haunts me as well
I loved how Akiyu told the backstory through images in the water with ink (?) and Scumport's foggy / gray colour palette (+ bonus points discount Charon imagery). Finnegrin's big window in his scumport tower lit the room really well and allowed for some cool shots / gives him a different sort of vibe than a typical dark and gloomy villain's lair and I liked the contrast; he's civil until he's cruel, y'know?
I loved the Aaravos fadeout in Viren's eye and thought that was a really good way to (possibly) close out on his eye motif, but TDP always knocks it out of the park visually in particular in finales. The constant sunset colouring is probably some of the prettiest lighting/skies we've seen thus far though
Tumblr media
But the whole season was so pretty. I really just need to do another full rewatch to appreciate it properly lmao

Sailor Moon Rewatch Week 11 (March 11-17):
037: Let's Become a Princess: Usagi's Bizarre Training
Tumblr media
Well, if Usagi's supposed to he a proper princess, one supposes she ought to learn proper princess etiquette! So really, she has no choice but to attend a local finishing school where she can sit around wearing pretty dresses eating fancy foods and chatting away. Turns out it's not so easy to pass the course, though… and strange things happen to the girls who do.
038: The Snow, the Mountains, Friendship and Monsters
Tumblr media
Vacation TWO! Usagi hears of a Snow Princess skiing competition and figures she must be a shoo-in since, y'know, she's an actual princess. Turns out it doesn't work that way, while Rei is the real queen of the slopes, and also Yuuichirou’s family is secretly loaded.
039: Paired with a Monster: Mako, the Ice Skating Queen
Tumblr media
Luna and Artemis reveal ice skating was a popular sport in the Silver Millennium, so Usagi takes to the rink and lands straight on her butt. Princess Serenity was supposed to be a great skater, but Makoto is the one who takes to it naturally, even catching the eye of handsome pro figure skater Mischa - and his jealous partner, Janelyn.
040: The Legendary Lake Yokai: The Bond of Usagi's Family
Tumblr media
The Tsukinos are taking a family vacation to an idyllic mountain hotspring, where a local legend tells of a monstrous creature trapped beneath the lake. Endymion is intrigued as to whether this monster's power could be harnessed by the Dark Kingdom.

After rewatching Maleficent: Mistress of Evil yesterday, I’m now very curious if “transformation” is going to be a major theme in Book 7, just as it was in the live action movies. Maleficent was transformed in so many different ways - both physically and symbolically - as she learned to love again after Stefan's betrayal.
There's a part where Connal, one of the leaders of the Dark Fae, tells Maleficent, "But nature’s greatest power is the power of true transformation. You transformed when you raised Aurora, when you found love in the middle of your pain."
I feel that quote, and the theme of transformation, can easily apply to Lilia's relationship with Silver, and how having him in his life has transformed him profoundly.
I know his parenting skills are played for jokes, but he is very clearly not used to the comforts of a loving home. He is used to war and fighting and blood and death, used to returning to the castle with his body bruised and his bones aching, with no one there to welcome him. He tried raising his own son as a soldier and in the ways of knighthood, teaching him how to prepare for life on his own. And why wouldn’t he? That’s all he knew. That’s all he could give Silver. But he did learn to change his ways, and he did so because he was changed.
This is someone who never once had an interest in cooking, and after he found Silver, he asked himself again and again what to feed him and "hiked through the mountains, swam through the seas, and soared through the skies gathering ingredients" just for his son.
This is someone who profusely dislikes looking for things - so much so that it's his official pet peeve - and yet he still spent so many hours looking for Silver in the pouring rain and didn't give up until he found his boy and brought him home.
Someone who was once feared as a terrifying war general, and who is now just that screamo guy from the pop music club who likes black licorice, that problem child from the Master Chef program, that weird senpai who likes to hang from the ceiling and and scare people.
And I think as Book 7 continues, we might get to see how love and connections have transformed, and will continue to transform, Malleus, as well. We got a glimpse of this when Mal recounted the story of him freezing the castle as a child. When Lilia offered him his hand in the end, and bade him come sit at the table with everyone, I'm sure something deep within Malleus's heart changed that day.
And now faced with the prospect of losing the one person in his life who means more to him than anyone else, I want to see how love will transform Malleus into someone who is capable of accepting such permanent farewells.
As a final thought, I adore this transformation in Aurora's lines.
Aurora when she first meets Maleficent: “I know who you are. You’re my fairy godmother.”
Aurora confronting her in the finale of the second film: “I know who you are. […] You’re my mother.”

TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
Tagged by @santabarbara-skies, aaayyyy! I hardly get tagged so yaaaaaay!
Also this is kind of hard, but I’ll try (and like Em, I’m adding explanations, sort-of-kind-of, but not fancy formatting because I’m lazy).
The West Wing. Still my all-time favorite. Is it idealistic? Sure. Is it preachy sometimes? Yeah. But does it make my bleeding liberal heart glow and hopeful? You bet. Do I want to hug a pillow whenever someone says, “A guy falls in a hole...” or “What’s next?” or “Babies come with hats.” or “He loves teams, I love him so much” or almost-anything-CJ-or-Sam-says? Almost always. So, yeah, it’ll always top my list.
Tumblr media
Psych. Burton Guster, my beloved. I started this show for two reasons: Dule Hill was in it and I just finished the West Wing and needed to keep that connection going; and it a Sherlock Holmes adaptation-sort-of, and I am basically on board for almost anything that is loosely modeled on Holmes. But I stayed for, oh, god, all of it. The two idiots at the center of it all, for Shawn and Juliet, for Lassie, for the bond between Lassie and Juliet, for everything. It is just an absolute delight, come on, son, jerk chicken, Pluto, suck it, meeeeeee, incarcerated in a blueberry, TT Showbiz, MC ClapYoHandz, I would rather fill-in-the-blank, pineapples, Banana as in Bananarama, you know that’s right.
Tumblr media
Friends. Another one that’s definitely dated and contains plenty of sexist, fatphobic, homophobic, and other problematic content. But I have a huge soft spot for this show and would still be one of my desert island shows, if not my #1 desert island show, because it makes me laugh every. single. time. It’s not my favorite show, but it’s the one that makes me feel the most, I don’t know...home? Like I’m going back to this place that isn’t perfect, but somewhere I grew up and so it means a lot to me. And a lot of it really is still funny and adorable and heartwarming, you know?
Tumblr media
Ripper Street. Another one that has Sherlock Holmes vibes, but also includes my favorite handsome man, Matthew Macfadyen. Plus, period drama goodness, with an excellent cast overall, great acting, good writing, and a great ending that’s bittersweet but fitting and satisfying. The character arcs are just fabulous. There are lots of hats and vests. And dry dark humor. And moments that will break your heart to pieces. But others that will give you life. Probably one of the most underrated shows on this whole list, if not the most underrated. Plus the fandom is (still) lovely. Seriously one of the nicest, best fandoms I’ve ever been a part of.
Tumblr media
House MD. The one that started it all for me, and by “it all” I mean my leap into internet fandom communities. So it’s quite special to me. I was one of the only House/Stacy fans on the planet, I think, but that’s how it goes. And more importantly: the friends I made because of this show! The fics I wrote! (Eden in particular, still one of my favorites I’ve ever written for any fandom.) The fics I read! Plus the show itself is my cup of tea, being yet another Sherlock Holmes-esque (Holmes--Homes--House) story on this list. Hugh Laurie just kills it every damn time (although, much like Macfadyen, I just...can’t get used to and actually really hate his American voice/accent, just no, please stop, please just speak in your normal voice, please). The only downside is that it doesn’t have a ton of rewatch value for me, but maybe one day I’ll get back to it again.
Tumblr media
Black Sails. Another awesome period drama that was/is criminally underrated and under-watched. This. Show. Y’all. If you haven’t seen it, just see it. It’s got everything. The characters, so deliciously flawed but sympathetic and layered! Jack my favorite sassy ratboi captain. Flint, everyone’s favorite murder husband. Tits! Fruit! Oh, the production value is gorgeous, the ladies are badass, and it’s just a romp. Watch it.
Tumblr media
The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. Heeeey, another period piece, dramedy this time, though. And one of the more female-centric shows on my list. It’s hilarious, plain and simple. Jewish culture is everywhere in it, which I adore and appreciate. Tony Shalhoub as Abe Weissman and Alex Borstein as Susie Myerson are nothing short of brilliant in it. I love Lenny, but only because I love historical shows that weave in real people (I’m not a Lenny/Midge fan, sorry; I was rooting for Benjamin, even though I didn’t think it would pan out). I can’t wait to see how the series ends. I’ve loved every minute of it.
Tumblr media
The Mindy Project. My guilty pleasure show, and I shouldn’t feel that guilty about it. A show about a successful doctor who struggles to find love and herself in the big city? Yes, please. It’s sweet. It’s absolutely hilarious. Mindy Kaling is so relatable sometimes it hurts (in a good way). I wish I had her entire wardrobe, it’s amazing. Even the supporting cast is adorable and endearing and you just want to hug all of them and tell them they’re doing great, sweeties. It’s a super-sweet pick-me-up show, just a joy.
Tumblr media
And I tag...whoever. Here are a couple: @houseocats @olivelune @scienceoftheidiot @deelaundry @hondagirll
