Fireball! - February 26th, 1996.
"On rare but spectacular occasions, fireballs, meteors brighter than the brightest stars, flash through the heavens - sometimes making audible sounds and occasionally surviving to strike the Earth's surface. The path of one such fireball, recorded in January of 1995, skies over Hannover Germany, is shown above, the brilliant meteor easily outshining the stars of the constellation Orion (visible at the far right). In fact, for this brief moment, Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, is overwhelmed as the image of the fireball grazes it. This dramatic event was recorded by a video camera observation technique known as MOVIE. Interplanetary space is littered with meteoroids, "rocks" tens of yards in diameter and less. Striking the Earth's atmosphere at high relative speeds, they leave visible trails known as meteors or, more poetically, "shooting stars". The trails are created when the intense heat caused by friction vaporises them. Fireballs can be caused by meteroids weighing small fractions of an ounce which do not survive to reach the ground. Remnants of larger ones, which do reach the ground after running this fiery gauntlet, are called meteorites. Though fireballs are rare, meteors are visible on any clear night of the year. Even outside the predicted regular meteor shower events, patient observers in dark sky areas can see several an hour - by just looking up!"

BILLY LOOMIS | GHOSTFACE (scream 1996)
────────────────────
Tumblr media Tumblr media
────────────────────
“Pumpkin” (Billy Loomis x Fem!Reader)
| You and Billy have a Halloween Party to get to. He just wasn’t expecting your choice in costume.
| Reader is always black unless I say differently
| SFW, playful teasing and sarcasm, use of pet names, mild pda(kissing)
| 1k+ words
Tumblr media
You watch as Stu’s jeep drives up and it only takes a second after he pulls over and turns down his window for the sound of boisterous laughter to meet your ears.
It’s not the gangly teen’s own, though he does snicker as he looks you up and down from above his shades. Tatum waves at you excitedly from the passenger seat so you know it’s not her making all that noise either. No, all the excitement seems to be happening in the backseat.
You roll your eyes, a tiny grin pulling at the corner of your mouth.
“Oh come on!” You spin a little to show off more of your costume. “I think it’s pretty cute.”
“Oh, it’s adorable!” Stu calls out followed by a fit of high pitched giggles.
You don’t hesitate to flip him off, though all he does is laugh harder before Tatum starts trying to corral him. The back door popping open takes your mind off Stu completely in the next moment and you watch as Billy lets his legs come out to rest his feet on the worn asphalt. Small chuckles tumble past his lips as he gets a good look at you.
Dark eyes take in every bump dip and curve of your body, or where they usually would be visible, before his shoulders start to shake again. He’s wearing all black from his feet to his head, the only bit off his skin showing is around his eyes, but you have zero question that it’s Billy under the ski mask.
He pulls it off a second later as his head tilts back in his mirth then tucks it into the waist of his pants.
“When you said you had a surprise for me I was expecting something a little more Carrie and a lot less Season of the Witch, babe.”
You shrug, he might be laughing at your hard thought out Halloween costume, but at least he was laughing at all. Getting him to crack more than a cursory smile since his mom fucked off had taken a hot minute.
He starts up another peel of laughter before finally getting out of the car. You throw insults at him until he reaches you, cursing him out in between tiny bouts of your own laughter.
Cotton glove covered hands run down your arms as he gets close. Now only a small smirk rests on his face. You smile at him before knocking him in the arm. He doesn’t even have the decency to pretend it hurt.
Your lips purse, “If you’re finished. I’d like to explain-”
“Oh I think this speaks for itself, babe.” He stares down at you, eyes sparkling for a second before he leans down and whispers in your ear. “Or should I be callin’ you Pumpkin now?”
You huff as he accentuates his words with a squeeze to your hips. Well as much of them as he can squeeze.
You're wearing a matching costume with your younger sibling, a round jack o’ lantern over your middle, leaving your head, bare arms and black leggings exposed. A pumpkin top beret sits at the top of your head finishing the look.
Billy leans down and pressed a kiss to the corner of your mouth.
“I’m just messin’ with you. But seriously,” He gestures broadly to your ensemble. “You're changing right?”
You lean back a little and give the wild haired brunette a mildly affronted look as your eyebrows raise.
“Excuse me?”
He raises his own brows and waves a nonchalant hand at your outfit.
“I mean we are going to a party.” Your eyes narrow and he shrugs. “Relax. It’s not that it’s bad. Stu’s right you are adorable, baby. It’s just not-”
You look up at him, cocking your head to the side as he cuts himself off with a shrug. Oh please.
“It’s just not what? Don’t get shy on me now.”
He chuckles, licking his lips, brown eyes stare you down.
“Really?”
“Yeah really. Finish your sentence, asshole.”
He nods towards you. “I was just expecting something more sexy. That’s all.”
You snort, “Uh huh. How come you’re not dressed in something sexy then?”
He smirks and swipes a hand down to indicate his whole costume, “This isn’t sexy?”
His voice lilts up like he’s shocked, or like he’s trying to start a debate over the logistics of you not finding whatever horror villain he’s undoubtedly dressed as hot.
“No, not really. Who are you even supposed to be?”
His eyes roll, “This is why you should come to our movie marathons more often. I’m dressed as Alex Hammond.”
You just stare at him. He squints at you.
“The killer from Prom Night,” he elaborates, not too dryly.
You nod once, the image of Jamie Lee Curtis running around dimly lit locker adorned hallways popping into your head. You only vaguely remember that one since the night you watched it Billy had made you more than a little distracted with his hand down your pants.
“Sure,” you agree lightly. “But still not very sexy unless you're you. So once again, why did I have to be the sexy one?”
“You were Jeryline last year.”
You blink. Can’t really argue with him there. That look had gotten you a lot of compliments and you’d been more than excited seeing it come together. Black final girls were rare and you hadn’t shut up about Jada’s character for days after Billy surprised you with a date to go see Demon Knight. That was besides the point though; your costume choices could be broad if you wanted them to be.
Giving him a sideways look you don’t respond before pushing past him to the car. He follows with a stupid smirk on his face, satisfied to have caught you up.
“Fine, but I’m a pumpkin this year so you’ll just have to wait till the party’s over to properly get your hands on me this time,” you throw over your shoulder before slipping into the backseat.
Billy just laughs as he slides in next to you and dives in for a kiss. His lips against yours take you in so thoroughly you don’t even hear the door slam closed or realize the car is moving until he pulls away.
He looks at you evenly, mischief dancing along his face, and you can’t help the way your heart pounds at that promise.
“I guess we’ll be leaving the party early then.”
“I guess so,” you murmur.
The both of you ignore Stu's high pitched teasing to kiss some more.
NOTES: Aaand done! Hope you enjoyed! Happy October First everyone!🎃
Also, please excuse any typos I’ll catch them eventually.

For One Creature's Sake (pt 2 of 2) P1

Even monsters need love, don't they?
PSA in my AU the Ghost Project timeline is much earlier. 1969-1972, 1996--ongoing.
2001
Primo lately had taken on a sallow gray color. The veins radiating from his white Infernal Eye were black, angry, twisting across his face and down his neck and arms like cruel lightning. When Brother Copia had visited him Primo was either boiling hot and soaked with sweat, or nearly frozen to the touch. A few months ago Primo had climbed into bed and since then he had not gotten up on his own.
“Primo?” Copia put on a cheery voice, walking deeper into the room with a tray of food and fresh flowers. “Primo, I’m here! Coming closer.” He narrated his actions, since recently Primo confessed he was losing his sight too. He carried the tray carefully across the room, resting it on the side table. “Lunch, soup and a half cucumber sandwich. All from your garden of course. It’s still doing well. Shall I…shall I help you up?”
“I would like that,” said Primo. He coughed and stirred. Copia pulled him up by the shoulders, adjusting the pillows behind him. Today Primo felt clammy but not uncomfortably so. The man grunted his appreciation, settling into his new upright position. “How are you today?”
“I should be asking you that.” Brother Copia gave him one of his shy smiles. He was a mousey, lanky young brother of sin in his mid-twenties, with a weirdly elegant ski-slope of a nose and a soft smattering of freckles. His fingers twitched excitedly as he spoke. He replaced the wilted flowers on the bedside table with new pink fluffy peonies from Primo’s well-tended garden.
Primo coughed a laugh. “I don’t change too much from day to day. You said there’s soup, sandwich?”
Copia brought the tray to Primo’s lap and cut small pieces of the sandwich for him, putting them in his hand piece by piece, chattering with the older man about the random goings on in the Ministry. What the new gardener was planting, Terzo’s latest weird project. If Sister had finally killed Nihil yet (she hadn’t). Copia carefully helped ladle soup into Primo’s mouth and showed off his little sling bag strapped across his chest.
“Rat carrier. It was crocheted as a gift for me,” Copia explained. He moved the tray of dishes away, and helped Primo wipe his mouth. “By Sister Alice.” He opened the drawstring and a black rat’s head emerged, its nose twitching. Copia scratched the creature’s cheek and it let out an appreciative squeak.
“Oh yes, and how is she?”
Copia frowned and he hoped Primo didn’t notice. “I'm afraid we're no more,” Copia muttered. “She…um…said it was her, not me. I don't really know what that means.”
“You’ll find the one,” Primo said, smiling. “Who do you have with you today, Copia?”
“Aramis,” said Copia. He placed the large black rat in Primo’s lap, guiding his hand to rest on the soft glossy fur. “The largest of the brothers.”
“He is quite a big one!” chuckled Primo.
“He eats Porthos and Athos’ food constantly,” Copia sighed. “But it makes him too sleepy to get into trouble, so it ah…all evens out.”
“You used to be so terrified of rats.”
“I don’t remember ever being scared of them.” Copia watched Aramis in Primo’s hand with fatherly pride. “They have little hands, how could you be afraid of them?”
Primo laughed aloud, and Copia gave him a confused look, but joined in. They shared a few moments of mirth before Primo’s hoarse laughter petered off into rattling coughs. Copia grabbed Aramis, who was fleeing from Primo’s lap, and dropped the rat on his own shoulder. He brought a cup of water over to Primo, helping him drink.
There was a tense silence. Copia pet Aramis, and the rat’s soft fur and happily twitching tail calmed him. But the lingering dark cloud had settled in on their afternoon.
“Secundo is now Papa Emeritus…and it seems like Terzo will be next.” Copia swallowed. “You don’t think Sister would um…would pick me for the Ghost Project, would she?”
“And why not? You have exceptional musical talent, Copia.”
“Yes, but…erm…I don't…I worry—”
“You don't want to end up like me,” Primo interrupted, a sarcastic expression on his face. “Maybe by your time you'll be stronger. More prepared. I lasted longer than the other three before me.”
“Three in eighteen months,” Copia whispered. “One died halfway through a set.”
“And I got through five years,” Primo said. “Some of the greatest five years of my life.” His chest swelled with air, and it seemed like the veins across his body throbbed painfully. “If I could meet my younger self and tell him all that I have accomplished, he would choose the same fate for himself. I assure you.”
“The Ghost Project is…something. We’ve never seen anything like it.” Copia sighed. “Expensive, volatile…dangerous.”
“Yes, it’s the most Papa Emeritus has channeled the Void in centuries. But Sister has a plan. Sister…” Primo turned his head away from Copia, his near sightless eyes distant. He was always terrible at lying. “Sister knows best.”
Copia cleared his throat, changing the subject. “Did you want me to read to you this afternoon? Where were we in the book?” Copia pulled a thin paperback from the side table drawer.
“Frankenstein's bride,” said Primo, his face cracking into a weak grin. “At least I remember that much.”
Copia smiled back, nestling Aramis in his lap. The huge black rat curled up and started to snooze. Copia opened the book, flicking the pages to where they left off. “Ah, yes, this is the monster speaking here… ‘If any being felt emotions of benevolence towards me, I should return them a hundred and a hundredfold; for that one creature's sake I would make peace with the whole kind! But I now indulge in dreams of bliss that cannot be realized. What I ask of you is reasonable and moderate; I demand a creature of another sex, but as hideous as myself; the gratification is small, but it is all that I can receive, and it shall content me…’’ Primo?” Copia caught his breath in his throat. “Primo, did you…fall asleep?”
“I’m here,” Primo replied. “I'm just…thinking.” He let out a rattling sigh. “Even monsters need love, don't they?”
“Of course.” Copia pet Aramis, smiling. “They need love most of all.”
Primo laid his head back, presumably staring up at the ceiling. It seemed like his mind was far away. Copia's earliest memories was of Primo’s broad smile, his good humor, his laughter. But one day Primo had stopped. Copia distinctly remembered moments where even his child brain felt that something inside his father figure had died. Some gray shadow faded the smile, some occurrence broke a piece of his heart off within him and it had painfully rattled there, trapped ever since.
“I'm sorry, Copia,” Primo finally said, his voice creaking. “I was miles away. You can keep going.”
Copia nodded, settling in. “Well then the monster continues. 'It is true, we shall be monsters, cut off from all the world; but on that account we shall be more attached to one another.’ “
“I think that is enough,” Primo muttered. “I’m tired. I cannot think about this.” He held out his hand and Copia took it.
“I’ll come by tonight, for dinner? We can finish it then.” Copia carefully herded Aramis back into the pouch, closing the drawstring. He stood up, placing his hand on Primo’s shoulder. Primo looked up, finding his eyes. Copia’s heart dropped but he managed a crooked smile.
“That would be excellent.”
“Would you be interested in coming to my organ practice tonight? If you are up for it.” Copia lowered Primo back onto the bed so he could get his afternoon nap in.
“I will see how I feel. I can have the nurse open the window. I can…sort of hear you play from here.”
“Right,” Copia said, wincing. He started backing away. “I’m leaving now. I hope you rest up. I…I care about you, Primo. Like…like a brother. Like a son.” His stomach turned. The slackness of his father figure, his adoptive brother as he lay there in bed felt like an ill omen. Something in him turned on, dark thoughts lapping at his feet like the encroaching tide. I need to prepare for this. One day Primo won’t be talking back.
He closed the door, and pretended he didn’t feel like the sound reminded him of a coffin lid.

J.T. Walsh is great at being a villain
Actor is ubiquitous as the bad guy in ''The Client,'' ''Nixon,'' ''A Few Good Men,'' and more
ByKate Meyers
Published on August 23, 1996
First, you recognize his face. Then you think: bad guy. If you’ve seen The Grifters, A Few Good Men, The Client, Outbreak, Nixon, or Executive Decision, then you’ve seen J.T. Walsh portraying, in his words, ”ethically challenged” individuals. Not that it bothers him. ”It’s better than doing the ‘he went thataway’ roles,” he says. His characters, which tend to be middle-aged buttoned-down authority figures, drip with what he calls ”a little juice.”
Hard-pressed to think of a nice guy he’s played, Walsh, 52, easily recalls the lowest — the porn producer having an affair with his daughter in 1991’s Defenseless. Represented on video this week by the thrillers Black Day Blue Night and Sacred Cargo and in September by the indie comedy The Low Life, Walsh says he has no problem accepting low-profile projects. ”My motto has always been, Do whatever comes next,” he laughs.
Born in San Francisco, Walsh was raised in Germany, where his father served in the military. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island, Walsh worked for a decade as, by turns, a teacher, salesman, journalist, restaurant manager, and social worker. But those became just day jobs when, at 31, the self-proclaimed hippie began acting in regional East Coast theaters. In 1974, Walsh hung out at the Theater at St. Clement’s in New York City, where he met an unknown playwright named David Mamet. Cast in the role of Bobby in American Buffalo, he made $100 for the six-week run. Ten years later, Mamet picked Walsh for the Broadway production of Glengarry Glen Ross, which was ”the pop” that got him into the movies. Walsh moved to L.A., where he’s been evil ever since.
Married briefly in his 20s, the unattached Walsh (”Who wants to go out with the bad guy?”) lives in the San Fernando Valley with his 22-year-old son, John. He’s currently playing — surprise — a morally ambiguous Navy colonel on NBC’s sci-fi drama Dark Skies. ”As an actor he conveys the attitude of the guy you call if you need a job done,” says Bryce Zabel, the show’s executive producer. ”You wouldn’t want to ask him how he got it done, but you’d call him.”
”Sure, I want bigger parts,” Walsh says. ”I call Sharon Stone and say: ‘Gimme a break. I just wanna make love to you.’ She doesn’t get back to me.”

Elihu Proclaims God's Majesty
Tumblr media
1 “When I hear the thunder, my heart pounds.    It beats faster inside me. 2 Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice!    Listen to the thunder that comes from him! 3 He sends his lightning across the sky.    It reaches from one end of the earth to the other. 4 Next comes the sound of his roaring thunder.    He thunders with his majestic voice. When his voice fills the air,    he doesn’t hold anything back. 5 God’s voice thunders in wonderful ways.    We’ll never understand the great things he does. 6 He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth.’    He tells the rain, ‘Pour down your mighty waters.’ 7 He stops everyone from working.    He wants them to see his work. 8 The animals go inside.    They remain in their dens. 9 The storm comes out of its storeroom in the heavens.    The cold comes from the driving winds. 10 The breath of God produces ice.    The shallow water freezes over. 11 He loads the clouds with moisture.    He scatters his lightning through them. 12 He directs the clouds to circle    above the surface of the whole earth.    They do everything he commands them to do. 13 He tells the clouds to punish people.    Or he brings them to water his earth and show his love.
14 “Job, listen to me.    Stop and think about the wonderful things God does. 15 Do you know how he controls the clouds?    Do you understand how he makes his lightning flash? 16 Do you know how the clouds stay up in the sky?    Do you understand the wonders of the God who has perfect knowledge? 17 Even your clothes are too hot for you    when the land lies quiet under the south wind. 18 Can you help God spread out the skies?    They are as hard as a mirror    that’s made out of bronze.
19 “Job, tell us what we should say to God.    We can’t prepare our case    because our minds are dark. 20 Should he be told that I want to speak?    Would anyone ask to be destroyed by him? 21 No one can look at the sun.    It’s too bright after the wind has swept the skies clean. 22 Out of the north, God comes in his shining glory.    He comes in all his wonderful majesty. 23 We can’t reach up to the Mighty One.    He is lifted high because of his power. Everything he does is fair and right.    So he doesn’t crush people. 24 That’s why they have respect for him.    He cares about all those who are wise.” — Job 37 | New International Reader's Version (NIRV) Holy Bible, New International Reader’s Version® Copyright © 1995, 1996, 1998 by Biblica. Here Comes Comet Hyakutake - March 13th, 1996.
"The reactions of ancient people to the appearance of bright comets has toppled empires, de-throned kings, and been taken as a sign of great things to come. Probably some of these comets did not get as bright as Comet Hyakutake. It was said that every major news organisation would cover Comet Hyakutake extensively. Comet Hyakutake is shown above showing a tail of dust. This image, taken directly from a photographic negative, shows stars as black spots and the bright comet coma and tail as dark clouds against the white background of space. During its closest approach to the Earth on March 25th, 1996, Comet Hyakutake appeared in the northern hemisphere as a diffuse ball of light, brighter than most stars. Comet Hyakutake was visible most of the night even without binoculars, passing above the stars in the handle of the Big Dipper. Comet Hyakutake was best seen in dark skies far from city lights, where its tail - possibly extending 20 degrees or more - was most easily visible. As Comet Hyakutake receded from the Earth, it faded, but brightened again as it neared the Sun later that April. At that time, it was best seen in the southern hemisphere."

Lyrics:
Oh-oh, yeah
Mmm
To-do-do, oh-oh
These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers
This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance
And legitimate excuses
The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much but we'll take our chances
'Cause God's stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us all out to play
Turned His back and all God's children
Crept out the back door
And it's hard to love
There's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above
Say it's much, too much, too late
Well, maybe we should all be praying for time
To-do-do, oh-oh
Mmm, whoa-whoa, yeah
These are the days of the empty hand
Oh, you hold on to what you can
And charity is a coat you wear twice a year
This is the year of the guilty man
Your television takes a stand
And you find that what was over there is over here
So you scream from behind your door
Say what's mine is mine and not yours
I may have too much but I'll take my chances
'Cause God's stopped keeping score
And you cling to the things they sold you
Did you cover your eyes when they told you
That he can't come back 'cause he has no children
To come back for?
It's hard to love
There's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above
Say it's much too late
So maybe we should all be praying for time

SongFacts:
"Praying for Time" is a song written and performed by British singer and songwriter George Michael, released on Epic Records in the United Kingdom and Columbia Records in the United States in 1990. It was the first single from his second studio album, 'Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1' (1990), spending one week at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it Michael's seventh number one in the US and his last solo single to reach the top of the Hot 100. "Praying for Time" also reached number one in Canada for two weeks, becoming Michael's penultimate number-one solo hit there.
The song was Michael's first single in almost two years, entering the UK Singles Chart in August 1990. A dark and sombre reflection on social ills and injustice, it was hailed by many critics. The single peaked at number six in the UK, but it was his ninth number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. The song remained in the Billboard top 40 for ten weeks. It was the first song of political motivation he had released as a single since his earliest days with Wham!.
After Michael's temporary move to Virgin in 1996, Sony Music re-made the video in a simplified CGI version, with a uniform black/grey background and no animations at all. This is the one most commonly available as of 2017, and as such it was released in the 2017 Deluxe Edition of the 'Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1' album.
While Michael refused to appear in videos to support the album, an experimental video clip directed by Michael Borofsky was released for "Praying for Time", featuring only the lyrics of the song with a blue and black background that, at the end of the clip, reveals itself to be the image on the cover of the album. Some of the written lyrics featured in the video are slightly animated:
The video quickly became a buzz clip on MTV, and stayed in rotation on most video networks for weeks. Similarly, the commercial single had no cover photo, only words. Some have speculated that the style of the video was influenced by Prince's similar promo clip for "Sign o' the Times" released three years previously.
