ONCE SULLY REACHED HIS NEWFOUND BED, if you could even call it that, it was like as if he had never left you both; the ringing in his ears was accompanied by giggles of his daughter, and when he closed his eyes he could see her with her arms outstretched, reaching towards him โ€“ but he was out of reach. He woke up in the night in a cold sweat, running a hand over his face, visions of you and Josie being subject to the tortures of this industry, blood smearing her face while she giggled and clapped at him, while you were pointing a gun at him, a drugged out expression on your face.
He exhaled deeply, marching his way to the downstairs sink, pushing his head around to splash water all over his face, running his hands through the cold stream and flicking the droplets onto his face. He pulled his phone out of his back pocket, stuffed half-hazardly in there, and flicked through his photos of you. One of you, him, and Josie all in the photo together, he was holding her up on his shoulder while you held onto his arm, gleaming at the camera with a cheesy smile; another being of you holding out your hand towards the camera โ€” he had just got the phone and had wanted to try it out, you, however, disagreed, claiming โ€˜you looked bad in the morningโ€™ and so he had been chasing you all around your flat for a good ten minutes for a photo of you until he accepted that this was the best he would get.ย
The palm of your hand was blocking the camera, and it blurred out most of the photo, however in the top left corner he could see your grinning face tilted in his direction. It was one of the only photos he had of you in the morning, the others were mostly of you sleeping, blissfully aware of what he was doing in those early hours. He sighed deeply, wiping his eyes, and checking his messages with you โ€“ he had blocked you, but he hadnโ€™t deleted your contact โ€“ the last being you asking what he was getting for dinner, unaware of the thoughts racing through his head at that current moment.
He debated for a good minute on what message to send, you probably werenโ€™t going to see it anyway seeing as it was three in the morning, and most likely you had blocked him in retaliation. He deleted the message he typed out, swiping off of the messages screen and staring at his black phone screen in silence. Memories of you and Josie came in waves, mostly at night. He didnโ€™t believe in God, but if he did, this was probably his doing in an attempt to punish him for leaving you both, for his sins. Would God punish you?
He stood upright, previously hunched over the sink with water dripping down his face and hands onto the floor, going back upstairs to try and find the room where Dushane would be laying low for a few days. He was sleeping on his side, thin cover only over most of his legs, the rest of it drooped down onto the floor. He had a sudden urge to pick it up, tuck him in like he had done previously with Josie, but he didnโ€™t. Get it together. Jaq was at her girlfriendโ€™s or her own flat, and Dris was at his with Erin by now. Sully checked his watch, then down at Dushaneโ€™s sleeping body. He shook him.
โ€œYo,โ€ Dushane grumbled in return, tucking his arm under his torso and wetting his lips. โ€œYo, Dushane,โ€ Sully said louder, pushing him about with a bit more force. His eyes opened and darted around as if paranoid, reaching for the pocketknife in his back pocket, Sully backed up with his arms up in mock surrender. โ€œItโ€™s me, fam. Itโ€™s Sully,โ€ Dushane narrowed his eyes interrogatively, looking around and Sully returned the look with his brows knit together in concern. โ€œWhat?โ€ he sat up, pushing what remaining cover he had left off of him. โ€œWhat do you want?โ€ he shook his head, running a hand over his face. โ€œNรฉe.โ€ He paused, Dushane looked at him pensively before sighing. โ€œWhatโ€™ve you got her doing?โ€
โ€œIs this really the time?โ€ he fixed the pocket knife to its place in his pocket again, picking up the cover from the floor nonchalantly. โ€œYes!โ€ exclaimed Sully, watching as he moved about on the bed. โ€œIs she even in Summerhouse now?โ€ย
Dushane let out a deep exhale, the cover now fixed accordingly on top of his bed. โ€œListen. These are decisions sheโ€™s made now, youโ€™ve got nothing to do with them. You made that choice, โ€˜kay Sulโ€™?โ€ Sully raised his eyebrows, deadpanning at Dushane who was sitting in front of him, looking up. โ€œWhat are you doing, big man?โ€ he joked, Sully coming closer to him, looking down with half-lidded eyes. Dushane scoffed, rolled his eyes, and then kissed his teeth. โ€œSheโ€™s in Manc,โ€ he looked down, averting his eyes. Sully huffed, looking away and biting the inside of his cheek. โ€œPostcode,โ€ he stated.
On roughly four hours of sleep, Sully took the train to Manchester, earning unappreciated glares from more elderly individuals sitting on the carriage opposite to his, gossiping amongst themselves out of earshot as he leant on his hand, looking out of the window. His eyes threatened to flicker closed as they became heavier, to fall asleep and dream of you once more. He watched as trees whirred by, the estates gradually melting out of view as he travelled to Manchester Station, getting off and watching as the pensioners hobbled their way out of the doors, bags slung over their arms. If you were here you would have probably told him to help them out, but you werenโ€™t here. Or you wouldโ€™ve done, he didnโ€™t know what you would tell him now after all this time, probably more so in the direction you lectured him โ€“ and rightfully so โ€“ yesterday.
Once he got out of the station, he propped his hood over his head, taking an uber to the destination Dushane had mentioned you would be at prior. It was about six-thirty in the morning. Sully doubted you would be awake at this time, you had always said you werenโ€™t a morning person, but then again this job changed people; he saw that for himself, he hoped you hadnโ€™t changed too much. The sun was just coming up, orange skies blaring light into his vision, according to Dushane you would be meeting some buyers at a marketplace at around seven โ€“ at least thatโ€™s what he had predicted based on travel times. Gaggles of people grouped up around the stalls in the market, despite the early time; there were various fruits piled in neatly stacked boxes and an ethnic shop filled to the brim with ackee and saltfish, jerk chicken, and various Jamaican ginger beers that he practically floated his way to.
He allowed his nose to lead the way, smelling it from a mile away, licking his lips as if already imagining the flavours on his tongue. โ€œIโ€™ll have a bit of everything,โ€ he nodded, giving the woman running it a polite smile which she gratefully returned, filling a plastic bag with the food and drinks. It crossed his mind that maybe he should get you something, to apologise in at least some way that didnโ€™t involve words; as he knew he wasnโ€™t going to be able to express himself in that way as you, obviously, had the stronger argument and he knew it. He had failed you and his daughter, he knew that. The woman manning the stall handed him the plastic bag, and Sully reached for his wallet. โ€œHow much?โ€ he looked up at her through his eyelashes, she simply shook her head and smiled. โ€œItโ€™s on the house.โ€ย
Sully raised the bag at her, a sign of gratitude, and looked inside it as he walked through the marketplace; taking a sip of the beer and eyeing out any potential meeting spots such as the secluded garage he could see out of the corner of his eye. He watched the crowds of people gradually dispersing and returning to the marketplace, browsing for wares, none seemed to him like they were on the road; there was no inconspicuous handshakes or โ€˜gumโ€™ exchanges that Sully knew as being people dealing and dishing out drugs, not even a backpack. Though he did see two officers making their rounds just coming through the marketplace, adjusting the strap stuffed in the front jeans over his jacket.
He avoided eye contact as they walked past, facing the other direction whilst he strolled up to the garage and checked his watch โ€“ five-to-seven. He saw you walking through a door next to the garage, twisting your head round and looking behind you, directly at him. He scowled, marching up to follow you into the building and oversee whatever exchange you were carrying out until he was approached by two yutes; no older than Jamieโ€™s younger brother, or around that age. โ€œYo, where you from?โ€ Sully rolled his eyes, one hand in his pocket while the other was near enough to it, holding onto his bag. He looked around and behind him, then peered over the shorter teenagers to look at the entrance you just went through. Two or three range rovers pulling up to the destination.
He kissed his teeth. โ€œFuck out the way,โ€ he glared at the two teenagers, he couldnโ€™t exactly shove them away as there were heaps of people shortly behind him watching, and he couldnโ€™t exactly afford to go back to prison for something as small as this. They didnโ€™t budge, the youth of today. โ€œWhat you movinโ€™ mad for, cause I ainโ€™t ever seen you round ends, innit,โ€ Sully almost laughed, his tongue poking the inside of his cheek as he waved them off. โ€œAy, you lot are jokes,โ€ he grinned, shaking his head at their attempts at bigging themselves up. โ€œDonโ€™t be tight, just tell us, yeah?โ€ Sully raised his brows at him, looking behind him again before bringing the gun from the front of his jeans out slowly, so only the barrel was showing.
The two teenagers glared down, backing up away from him and eventually making a run for it down an alleyway opposite. Sully chuckled softly, pulling the gun back into place and covering it up. He then saw you coming out of the building, unscathed, if anything he was impressed โ€“ and yet disappointed at the same time. Your gift would have to wait. Sully crossed over from the marketplace to the pavement opposite your side of the road, leaning onto a lamppost, he doubted you would come over, it was just a reassurance to himself and a reminder to you: he was watching you. You glared at him, a different backpack this time; then made your way back in the direction you came from โ€“ most likely the long route to Manchester Station and back to London, he assumed you were too paranoid to be caught going through the marketplace with such a large amount of people and the police that had just walked through. You were still smart with it, he almost laughed.
He waited a few minutes until tailing behind you, the sun now properly emerging, and he wondered if you had even slept at all. You now had your hood propped over your head, in fact, he was sure you were wearing the exact same thing yesterday; turning a few times through an alley, and then through a populated area in a bid to lose him. He persisted, after all he had been in this industry longer than you, and pushed through the groups of people hustling along the pavement waiting to cross the road. You finally stopped when you reached the back entrance of a group of shops, a bike shed next to it with a dent and graffiti on it, infested with weeds and grime. He stopped, slightly hiding behind a building, watching as you just stood completely still, likely trying to compose yourself. Why was he hiding?
The answer being the way you swivelled round on the balls of his feet, staring at him once more as he tilted his head and attempted to look nonchalant, ignoring the way he had technically stalked you here.ย  He came out from his hiding spot, looking down, bag still in hand and likely a bit colder. โ€œFuck you following me for?โ€ you spat, glaring at him from around nine feet away. He shuffled his feet along the gravel, not feeling like a convicted murderer in your presence. He didnโ€™t answer, ignoring you, and shrugging. โ€œYou want some beer?โ€ he showed you the contents of the bag, pulling the handles open. You didnโ€™t even look; brown eyes boring into his skull as his darted around for anything but to meet yours. โ€œI said the fuck are you following me for, Sully? You stalking me now?โ€ he scoffed, turning his head to the side and then looking down at you, retracting the bag. โ€œCanโ€™t I look out for my girl no more?โ€ you raised your eyebrows at him, tilting your head down. โ€œYou still calling me that?โ€ Sully kissed his teeth, then wet his lips. โ€œWhatโ€™s with all the attitude?โ€ he grimaced at you. โ€œYou call this attitude? Youโ€™re on some joke โ€“ ay, are you taking something?โ€ you frowned up at him, deadpanning at the complete audacity your ex-boyfriend had. He rolled his eyes, pressing his tongue flat against the roof of his mouth. โ€œNo, Iโ€™m not taking nothing. Keep your fuckinโ€™ voice down, yeah?โ€ he glared at you, placing a hand on your shoulder whilst looking around, you swiped it off and he huffed, arms going back to dangling uselessly by his sides.
โ€œWhat are you doing here then?โ€ he looked back at you with half-lidded eyes, staring down, fixated on every little movement or twitch that came with the expressions on your face. โ€œGotta take care of you, cause youโ€™re clearly not used to doing this shit.โ€ You chuckled softly under your breath, looking down and shaking your head. โ€œFuck are you laughing at?โ€ you thinned your lips, unresponsive, bottom lip tucked in. โ€œI was fine doing it until you found out,โ€ you mumbled. โ€œNow youโ€™re just gonna, what, spy on me whilst Iโ€™m doing my job?โ€ his expression didnโ€™t change; he just looked unconvinced and disappointed. โ€œDid I ever do that?โ€ you asked, jabbing at him. โ€œThis isnโ€™t your job,โ€ he cut in. โ€œYou were fine by yourselfโ€“โ€
โ€œFine? Is that how you expect me to be when you just fuckinโ€™ leave on us? No note or nothinโ€™?โ€ he clenched his jaw, teeth grinding against each other. โ€œNรฉe, I told you this. I left you money, you were gonna be fine without me.โ€ You shook your head, chuckling, and staring over at a group of people hovering around a bus stop who were watching you intently. Your voice was condemned to a hushed whisper, breathing deeply as you attempted to contain your rage to a lower volume so as to not cause a scene. โ€œI didnโ€™t want your fuckinโ€™ money, Sully. I havenโ€™t even used it,โ€ you retorted, pressing your tongue against the back of your teeth. โ€œI wanted you, โ€˜nโ€™ you just left,โ€ you shrugged, thinning your lips once more.
โ€œClearly you didnโ€™t want me enough,โ€ you added, looking him up and down before crossing the road and making your way back to the route towards Manchester Station.

New Yearโ€™s Murder: Ben Henham
Bill Henham, 24, from Henfield in West Sussex, was beaten to death and then thrown off the balcony of a disused building in North Street, Brighton, in January 2020.ย Bill had been kicked, stamped on and hit with a wooden bannister before falling 11ft into a courtyard. A post-mortem examination revealed he suffered more than 60 injuries, including a brain haemorrhage, eleven rib fractures, extensive cuts and bruising to the scalp, face, and neck.ย
Bill had spent Christmas with his family in Henfield, West Sussex, but decided he wanted to see in the New Year in "lively" nearby Brighton.ย  CCTV showed him leaving a seafront nightclub before a final sighting at 4.30am on New Year's Day in a shop near the squat.ย The student of digital film-making at Ravensbourne University in London was killed within hours of arriving at the party. He suffered "a sustained and significant" assault that left him with 60 injuries including multiple broken ribs and a brain injury. After a tip-off from a party-goer, police made arrests. Hawley was said to be "in charge of the squat". He laughed and joked about the attack and allegedly confessed to stripping Bill's body and dousing him in bleach.ย Hawley was seen with a bottle of the chemical and a cloth close to the small 13ft by 6ft room where Bill had just suffered a brutal assault. Others also boasted about their role after moving to a second squat party nearby. Meikle deleted two photos of Bill's body, one partially clothed and one naked, on his phone.
Dushane Meikle, 28, Gregory Hawley, 29, Lamech Gordon-Carew, 20, and Alize Spence, 18, were convicted on February 24. All four men had denied murdering Bill.ย At Hove Crown Court on Friday, May 20, all four were sentenced to life imprisonment. Hawley and Meikle are to serve a minimum of 25 years and Gordon-Carew and Spence are to serve a minimum of 18 years in prison.

I donโ€™t know why people are complaining about the new season of top boy and the ending of it.
Top boy s5 spoilers below
Likeโ€ฆ. The trailer etc. said โ€œNo loose endsโ€โ€ฆ whatโ€™s one way to tie up loose ends? Offing the loose ends ๐Ÿ’€ it works with the story line and how deep everyone was. You see it irl and in media, the only way out when youโ€™re too deep, is to die. Likeโ€ฆ ??? It was rushed in a few places but at the same timeโ€ฆ loose ends like the ones shown in this season are ones that need to be tied up fast asf. So it still works with the entire show lmao. It was a good season. It was just missing some big characters (Aaron) and a few of the character endings werenโ€™t fully rounded out for the end of the show (Jaq, Si etc.)
I also think offing Jamie was a bad move. It would have been better to leave his death a big question and then continue on with it this last season. It would have flowed better and allowed some characters to finish off the show well (Aaron, Jamie, Dushane etc.)
Stef not going through with killing Sully is a good end for him. โ€œYouโ€™re not worth itโ€โ€ฆ everyone is forgetting that Stef is both young and smart. He has Aaron and Erin. He knows killing Sully then going to jail isnโ€™t something Aaron or Jamie would want for him. He chose to do the right thing. Itโ€™s also not worth killing Sullyโ€ฆ yeah I get revenge but, like ??? It would be better for Stef to know that Sully has that death plus others (Dris etc.) on his shoulders 24/7 and will never go a day without feeling that.
The person that killed Sully is 100000% from Summerhouse or maybe an earlier season of Top Boy. Rafe wanted Sully dead. Rafe said that he likes to wait for beef to die down before getting revenge etc. And with Dushane gone, he doesnโ€™t have to keep that โ€œpromiseโ€ anymore. He could take out Sully and Sully would never see it coming.
The way the season went, was good. The whole thing was coming to an end and as the season went on, characters slowly started finding something different or stepping back. Like Jaq wanting to leave for her nephew (Jack๐Ÿฅฒ) and Becks.
Laurynโ€™s death was clearly accidental btw. If it was a suicide, she would have left a note for Jaq and Becks. She would have told Jaq that she named her baby Jack after her. Itโ€™s clear that Lauryn (most probably) overdosed and drowned. She was just starting to feel human and good againโ€ฆ the stress of being a single mother and alone got to her.

Men's ODI WC: Sri Lanka Win Toss, Opt To Field First Against India
Tumblr media
ODI World Cup: Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in a crucial league match of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede stadium here on Thursday. Mendis said they think batting second will be better on this pitch. "The players have done well in a couple of matches and are giving their best. Very important three games for us" said Mendis at the toss. Sri Lanka have made one change in the team that lost to Afghanistan in Pune a couple of days back, bringing in Dushan Hemantha in place of Dhananjaya de Silva. India captain Rohit Sharma said he would have batted first if he had won the toss. He said it was a good pitch and gave some assistance to the bowlers at the start."Under lights, it will be nice for our seamers to bowl. Great honour to captain India at the World Cup where I've grown up playing. As a team, we thrive on getting better however way we can. Obviously, important for us to not get carried away and it's important to stay balanced. We're playing the same team," Rohit said after the toss. Playing XI: India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk),Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami,Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj. Top Boy anon. What did you think of the last season
They seemed like they wanted to wrap it up and be done with it.
The way they handle Dushane and Jaq storylines was sloppy. I know they were supposed to be unraveling and not thinking clearly but they just came off as being stupid.
Especially Dushane, I donโ€™t buy him not being more suspicious after that woman practically said โ€œwhat moneyโ€. He might of failed at stopping her but I feel like he would have kept an eye on her. Then forgetting to wipe down the front door after murdering someone. They could have went for a less obvious mistake.
Iโ€™ve always liked him too but this season I was just waiting for his ass killed or arrested. Iโ€™m glad Shelly left when she did.
I will say I liked Sully and Dushane last scene together. I canโ€™t say I wasnโ€™t invested in any of the dynamics because of the previous seasons but I checked out. I did like Stef and Erin though, they were cute.
There were aspects of this season that I liked but it definitely felt rushed despite the fact that the episodes also felt long because we weren't focusing really on what we should've been for the ending that we got.
Jaq is probably my favourite character and her stealing the drugs and doing nothing with it was absolutely ridiculous. If she's having a crisis about being a dealer then burn the drugs, if she's thinking about getting out then make off with it to sell wholesale, but this stealing the drugs, keeping it at her house, expecting no one to find it was so ridiculous I couldn't comprehend the point.
I also thought we needed more time with her reconciling the fact that she's a drug dealer because I got it in theory; Lauryn had a baby and now she's looking at her clients differently because she understands what it is to have a baby in your life, then Lauryn OD's and it hits different when it's someone you love but it really just came across as omg I sell DRUGS and drugs have consequences?? as opposed to her taking a hard look at her life.
I also thought Lauryn's addiction happened way too quickly. I obviously understand why she would turn to drugs after what she went through but because we don't spend enough time with her descent, we don't really know how long she's been doing it, we don't really see her struggle with it, it kind of just happens, I was just kind of like well ... OK?
Dushane's unravelling, I needed more time to understand his erratic behaviour because even before the final couple of episodes I was like, Dushane is being uncharacteristically dickish. Not that he was nice before but he wasn't always on edge. Like I know he's made some moves in the past that were shady particularly when he puts Jamie in jail but that was all calculated for him to get the best possible result, so granted, I didn't rewatch the previous season before watching this one but I was like, this unnecessary aggression Dushane is moving with is odd. It almost made me forget how much I hate Sully.
Sully was consistently Sully.
Honestly, every time I saw Shelley I was like where is your kid? Lmao. And she was right to leave Dushane but she did annoy me during his confrontation when she just kept repeating "It isn't about the money, it isn't about the money!" without explaining herself and when she did explain herself, I thought she explained it badly? Because saying one day you're in a good mood and the next day you have blood on your hands, Dushane was right in saying yo man you said you were ride or die, what it really should've been is one day you're in a good mood, the next you're yelling at me, shutting me out, I'm afraid you're going to get physical with me, you're too unpredictable because THAT'S the issue.
The ending had me like they probably wanted to do a Departed like thing but I really just wanted Stef to pull the trigger. I get the whole don't want to perpetuate the cycle of violence but I just wanted vengeance for Jamie. I personally think the Irish killed Sully.
Stef and Erin were adorable.

Wrapped up the last book on Roman history:
From the history of Rome I now move to the history of France, for a time, and wrap things up with Ira Lapidus's history of the Muslim world. This book, all 857 pages of it, covers the full sequence of the history of the Eastern Romans from the reign of Diocletian to that of Constantine XI. In the course of that 1153 years the Byzantine state first adopted Christianity, replaced the habit of civil wars with palace putsches, and underwent a history that like that of Kanem-Bornu defies the usual conventional wisdom of the histories of states and empires neatly fitting into a rise-maturity-fall triad. The Empire underwent several major catastrophes, but only 1204 and 1453 finally proved fatal, by which point it made it all the way to the age of the gunpowder empires introduced by the Ottoman Sultans and but four decades from the cataclysmic arrival of European colonialism in the Americas.
Virtually all of the cliches that define the various narratives of the downfall of the West do not apply to the Byzantine state. Christianity was the ideological framework of a powerful state that lasted over a millennium. Overmighty generals did orchestrate palace coups and from time to time civil wars and found new dynasties, but these same men were able to restore the Empire twice in crises even when their actions worsened them. Climate change, if it supposedly toppled the West had a vacuum-sealed bubble around the East that miraculously exempted the founding Emperors and generals of the Byzantine state from the decay that took the West, so presumably Eastern Orthodoxy allows for a nullification of climate via icons. /snerk
Ultimately it is one of the deeper ironies that in a very real sense the Roman Empire not only did not entirely fall, under Justinian I it underwent a resurgence that briefly re-established Roman rule on both ends of the Mediterranean, before the civil war of Phocas and Heraclius brought the empire to near-ruin first at the hands of the Sassanian Emperor Khosroes II and then the rise of the Rashidun and Ummayyad Caliphates. Even then it underwent a second resurgence from the reign of Irene to that of Basil II Bulgaroktonos (Bulgar-Slayer, most famous for the Battle of Kleidon where in the aftermath he blinded 99 out of 100 and left the other 10 with sight in one eye to lead them back to the Tsar, who died of shock at the sight).
The successes and the wealth from these conquests produced a drifting state that in turn disintegrated into the 1204 catastrophe of civil war mixed with the opportunistic forces of the Fourth Crusade....only to regenerate again when the Despotate of Nicaea overcame its first rival in Epirus, regained the capital, and tried to restore the realm with more success than might be expected until the heirs of Ghazi Osman began to build an empire that would ultimately revive, however briefly, the borders of the Diocletian-era empire.
These are truths that worked together with all the more familiar narratives of different facets of medieval times, the Byzantines outlasted the Arab states' periods of self-rule before the Seljuk and then Ottoman Sultans replaced Arab elites with Turkic, they outlasted the glory days of the Bulgarian Khanates and then Tsardom, of Stepan Dushan's Serbia, of Kyivan Rus and the Khazar Khaganate that preceded it, of the Carolingian Empire's own bid to rebuild a Western European super-state and the glory days of medieval German culture in the pan-European power games of the Ottonians and the Staufens.
And they even managed to match the Hundred Years' War, for that matter, as their empire expired about when the conventional ending of that war's held to be. To remember that, and to look at the history of what could be either medieval Rome or medieval Greek history with equal truth to those labels, is to reappraise the past in a way that matters not least for smacking around multiple narratives with a sledgehammer wielded by someone out of a drunken Jackass tryout.
9/10.

Serbian expert: the referendum in Donbass is the avoidance of the "Croatian scenario"
The international observer at the last referendum in four Russian regions, the leader of the Serbian Right political party, Misha Vacic, turned out to be such an interlocutor for Ridus who is ready to answer some questions before they are voiced. We talked not only about the recent referendum, but also about consonant topics that this expert knows inside and out.
"Ridus": Analogies are often drawn between the status of Kosovo and the status of the republics of the DPR and the LPR. But perhaps another analogy is more appropriate: between the Donbass and the Republic of Serbian Krajina? In addition, the experience of the "Croatian scenario", the 1995 military operation in the Republic of Serbian Krajina, was clearly considered by Ukraine to suppress the LDPR.
Misha Vatsich: I should note that I often speak as an expert at international conferences โ€” in St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Kronstadt, Moscow. Very often I had to defend the thesis that it is inappropriate to draw analogies between events taking place on the territory of Donbass and on the territory of Kosovo. And the analogies between the Republika Srpska Krajina and between the events taking place in the Donbass are just appropriate. All these speeches are available on the Internet, and those who wish can get acquainted with them. I explained in many hours of discussions, together with academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professors, scientists, public figures who are engaged in geopolitics, why you can't compare Kosovo with Donbass, and you can absolutely compare the Serbian Krajina with the Donbass republics.
There are a lot of incredible facts related to our history. The essence of the analogy is that the Republika Srpska Krajina is our land. The Serbian population has been living in this space for more than a thousand years. Just like the Russian people live on the territory of Donbass.
It turned out that under the communist regimes, both in Yugoslavia and on the territory of the Soviet Union, artificial nations were formed. In our case it was the Croatian nation, and in the Soviet Union it was the Ukrainian nation. And in our case, historical Serbian territories were given at their disposal, and in your case, territories where ethnic Russian people live. Because the essence of communist policy was this: a strong Yugoslavia is a weak Serbia. Similarly, a strong Soviet Union meant a weakened Russia.
I can say that no Croat has ever lived in the city of Knin (in the Serbian Krajina). The proof is the fact that the monastery of Krka was created during the reign of King Dushan. And we also know that the cities of Kherson, Yekaterinoslav, Odessa were founded by the Russian tsarina. Just like Kharkov was founded by the Russian tsar. I can also add that a considerable part of the population of the territory where the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics are located today were Serbs. During the reign of the Russian Empire there were two legal entities. One was called Novoserbia, the other Slavyanoserbia. At one point, three hundred years ago, Austria-Hungary launched a military campaign against the Ottoman Empire. The Serbs, who were Orthodox Christians, of course sided with Austria-Hungary. As a result of this war, the Serbs, in order to avoid repression and revenge of the Turks, move, led by the Patriarch of Serbia, to the territories near present-day Donetsk and Lugansk. And there was no Ukraine in this space: either there were Russians, or there was no one.
And then what happens? We are talking about a space where historically there were no Ukrainians (in the case of the DPR and LPR) and so-called Croats (in the case of Serbian). Then, under the Communists, we come to a new administrative division of the country. And these so-called newly formed subjects of the two states are added to those territories that historically never belonged to them.
Then there was the Second World War, where absolutely identical Croatian Nazis Ustashi and Ukrainian Nazis Bandera committed ethnic cleansing. We managed to defend ourselves in that war. But with the collapse of Yugoslavia, the Ustasha policy comes to Croatia. And we had the right (just as the Croats expressed their desire to separate from Yugoslavia, on the same principle) to help the Serbs in that territory of Croatia (and on the basis of historical facts that they are a population that has been living in this territory for hundreds of years) to separate from this so-called Croatian state. They carried out a policy of genocide, banned the Serbian language, Cyrillic, and cleaned up the Serbian identity. And therefore the Serbs had the right to separate from Croatia.
The same thing happened with you. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Bandera policy did not immediately begin. But for 24 years, America has invested a lot of money in Western Ukraine in order to strengthen anti-Russian sentiments. And when there was a coup on the Maidan, we were able to compare the situation with the Croatian one. The face of the Ukrainian political elite in 2014 can be compared with the face of the Croatian in the early 90s. Russian language ย is banned, the attitude towards Russian identity, the persecution of Russian people. And the Russian people do not want to remain part of one legal entity of international relations that does not respect their right. The Serbs have never done this to the Albanians. Everything was always allowed to those, no one infringed on their rights. The secession of Kosovo was caused by an external factor, including the American one. Historically, the Albanians had no reason to do so.
I said, speaking at the conference, that Putin is obliged to recognize the DPR and the LPR, otherwise the Croatian scenario will happen there. The experience of the war that we had in 1995 is too well known. And thank God that the current referendum took place in Russian territories.
"Ridus": And yet it makes sense to compare today's referendum in Donbass with the referendum that took place in Kosovo 21 years ago on the same days โ€” from September 26 to September 30. Unlike today's referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, that referendum in Kosovo did not even have hints of legitimacy, such as voter lists and polling stations. And the organizers of today's referendum are willing to invite international observers and proceed from positions of maximum openness to the world community. How do you assess today's event in the "Kosovo context"?
ย Misha Vacic: I am a person who has devoted his life experience to studying the issues of Kosovo. And even at one point I was an adviser to the Serbian government on Kosovo issues. And many people in the country consider me one of the main experts on these issues.
And so I was an international observer here for five days. And I can clearly see the difference. I know that there were no polling stations in Kosovo. There were no international observers, not even voter lists. What they call a referendum was a self-declaration, a declaration. Their political and terrorist leaders have been very vocal about Kosovo's independence. But there was no such thing that every person living in Kosovo had the opportunity to decide. And about the Donbass, it cannot be said that there was a referendum only for Russians. It was for all citizens. This is a significant difference with the Kosovo version
"Ridus": That is, the events that took place in Kosovo at that time are a complete farce that cannot stand any comparison with the Donbass referendumโ€ฆ
Misha Vacic: Yes, it's an absolute farce. There was no referendum. Even if I wanted to say something in defense now, I would say that it looked like this in Kosovo. They did something like a public census and asked: are we all in favor of separating? And a certain number of opinions have been formed: yes, we are all "for". There was no democratic principle and no choice.
"Ridus": What are the main impressions about the Donbass referendum held in the conditions of permanent shelling of these territories by Ukrainian troops? Can we say that these attacks pushed the residents of the regions to vote for joining the Russian Federation?
Misha Vatsich: We believe that the whole policy of the former state of Ukraine pushes people to this. Especially after the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Kharkiv region, with these examples of human hatred of Ukrainian security forces, mass arrests, persecution of those people who had Russian phone numbers, Russian documents. On the other hand, just brutal round-the-clock bombing of Donetsk. Even if the referendum were held in conditions of general peace and tranquility, it is already impossible to forget what the people living there have been through over these eight years โ€” all this hatred that they have faced and are facing. In addition to the fact that such conditions, with shelling, during the referendum itself, people are already so fed up with this formed hatred towards them that they no longer want to live in such a state. Ukrainians have been bombing these people all the time, but so far they have not managed to banish these people from their land.
"Ridus": And under the shots of Ukrainian gunsโ€ฆ
Misha Vacic: Yes. And at the voting in Donbass, I saw people's joy. And some even cried with joy.
"Ridus": President Vucic recently uttered this phrase during a joint press conference with his Slovenian counterpart, answering a journalist's question about sanctions: "Russia did not violate the territorial integrity of Serbia, but Slovenia did" (meaning recognition of the independence of the selfโ€”proclaimed Kosovo). Hence our question: if Slovenia allows itself to recognize Kosovo, can Serbia also allow itself to recognize the choice of the people of Donbass, residents of Zaporozhye region, Kherson region?
Misha Vatsich: I personally recognize the choice of people living in Kherson, Zaporozhye, Lugansk and Donetsk republics. And official Serbia will not be able to do it yet. So far, we are fighting for the return of Kosovo. I assure you that the entire Serbian people living in Serbia, in Republika Srpska, in Montenegro absolutely recognize the results of the referendum. And in general, it does not matter whether the official Serbian government recognizes him. By the time the Serbian authorities have the opportunity and strength to return Kosovo, it seems to me that you will have already liberated Odessa. Because in the struggle for truth, time is not the most important thing. But as long as there is a Kosovo problem, we will not be able to recognize the secession of any country in the world. We would not even be able to recognize the Republika Srpska if it separated.
Ridus: So we can say that there is a certain political process dictating its limitations, but the majority of the Serbian people support the choice of Donbass?
Misha Vatsich: As soon as Vladimir Putin recognizes the DPR, the LPR, the Zaporozhye and the Kherson regions as subjects of the Russian Federation, Serbia will be the one to celebrate this event the most, after Donbass and Moscow.
"Reedus": We live in an era of total sanctions. At one time, Serbia was hard-pressed by the sanctions of the international community. Now Russia is experiencing unprecedented pressure from Western countries. What are the features of the current relations between Serbia and Russia in such a difficult period? What has changed in the relationship? How does it feel?
Misha Vatsich: Nothing will ever be able to separate us from Russia. We can even say that we have one common pain โ€” and it brings us closer. There are absolutely harmonious relations between our peoples. Sometimes it may be that due to different circumstances, some disagreements may occur between the political elites of our countries, but there can be no conflict between them. If Serbia cannot recognize the results of the referendum yet, this does not mean that it will not do so later. But on the other hand, just as we have not yet imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation. I assure you that we will never do anything against Russia. We are a true friend of Russia. And therefore we ask Russia to help us: we will not be able to do something to our detriment. In order to conduct a fully independent policy, we need to have clearer and more concrete support from Russia: in energy, in weapons. Then we will have the opportunity to defend our sky, which we did not have in 1999. Then we may be able to afford such a position as that of Nicaragua, which recognized the republics even before Russia itself.
We know that our opponents and Russia's opponents are absolutely identical. We have common enemies โ€” no matter where they sit: they have the same goals, they fight against us with the same means. This is the "fifth column", they are against Donbass, against the fact that Kosovo is Serbia. And they have tremendous American support.
And if we get this specific help from you, we will also become a sovereign state that will be able to fight all these destroyers by itself. Until then, we must behave within certain compromises โ€” just as you lived before this period. Because a political state should not be afraid of oligarchs who lose their wealth because of sanctions. The oligarchs are not particularly interested in historical justice and popular truth. You have nuclear weapons and security.
And that's why this referendum is very important. When these regions become formally part of Russia, not a single shell should fall on Donetsk. It's one thing when they shelled a certain separatist republic, and another thing is an attack on the Russian Federation.
Serbia does not have the opportunity to recognize this choice now. Because the United States, through our "fifth column", through those Serbs whom we call iPhones, through various kinds of non-governmental organizations and pro-Western media, would have made a revolution that would have brought Serbia one hundred percent into NATO. Our people don't want that. Our people should not be cold. Give us weapons and gas (laughs).
When the people have enough money and strength not to depend on Brussels and Washington, everyone will recognize the results of the referendum. Not only Serbia, but also France, etc., at the moment when they become economically independent from Washington.

THE HOLY PROPHET HABBAKUK (7th c. B.C.)
Tumblr media
Habakkuk was the son of Asaphat from the tribe of Simeon. He prophesied six hundred years before Christ, during the time of King Manasseh, and foretold the destruction of Jerusalem. When Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, attacked Jerusalem, Habakkuk sought refuge in the land of the Ishmaelites. From there he returned to Judea, where he lived as a farmer. One day he was carrying lunch to the workers in the fields when suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared to him and said: Go carry the dinner that thou hast into Babylon unto Daniel, who is in the lionโ€™s den (Daniel 14:34). But Habakkuk responded: Lord, I never saw Babylon; neither do I know where the den is (Daniel 14:34-35). Then the angel took him by the hair and instantly brought him to Babylon, over an immense distance, to the lionโ€™s den, where Daniel had been cast by King Cyrus as a punishment for not worshiping the idols. O Daniel, Daniel, cried Habakkuk, take the dinner which God hath sent thee (Daniel 14:37), and Daniel took it and ate. Then the angel of God again took Habakkuk and carried him back to his field in Judea. Habakkuk also prophesied the liberation of Jerusalem and the time of the coming of Christ. He entered into rest in ripe old age and was buried at Kela. His relics were discovered during the reign of Theodosius the Great.

SAINT STEFAN UROSH, TSAR OF SERBIA (1371)
Tumblr media
Saint Stephen Urosh, King of Serbia, was son of King Dushan Nemany, and was born in the year 1337. In 1346 he was crowned king. Dushan sought the daughter of the French king for his son, but the Roman Pope insisted that the princess not change from the Latin confession. Dushan did not want to see a Catholic in his family, and because of this Saint Stephen Urosh entered into marriage with the daughter of Vlad, Prince of Walachia.
Upon the death of his father (+ 1355), Saint Stephen Urosh became the independent and actual ruler of Serbia. He was faithful to the Lord; like a father he provided for widows and orphans, he pacified quarrels and maintained peace, he was charitable to the poor, and he defended the downtrodden.
In the interests of peace in Serbia and indeed for the preservation of his own life, Saint Stephen was obliged to flee to his kinsman, Prince Lazar. Saint Stephenโ€™s uncle, Vulkashin, immediately seized the throne, but his fear of rivals gave him no peace. Through his sister, Saint Stephenโ€™s mother, he invited his nephew to come to the city of Skopje, on the pretext of a reconciliation. Greeting him with honor, as Tsar, he invited him to go hunting. When Saint Stephen, weary from the hunt, went off with his horse to a well and bent over to take a sip of water, Vulkashin struck him a mortal blow on the head with a mace.

LUKE 20:1-8
1Now it happened on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, that the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, confronted Himย 2ย and spoke to Him, saying, "Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?"ย 3ย But He answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me:ย 4ย The baptism of John-was it from heaven or from men?ย 5ย And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'ย 6ย But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.ย 7ย So they answered that they did not know where it was from.ย 8ย And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."
1 TIMOTHY 1:18-20; 2:8-15ย
18ย This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,ย 19ย having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck,ย 20ย of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.ย 8ย I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;ย 9ย in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,ย 10ย but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.ย 11ย Let a woman learn in silence with all submission.ย 12ย And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.ย 13ย For Adam was formed first, then Eve.ย 14ย And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.ย 15ย Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.

Downtown Fremont is paying tribute to one of the city's most famous artists with a new mural adorning the side of Front Street's Brady Mercantile Building. Bradley Scherzer, an art and photography teacher at Fremont Ross High School, conceived the idea for the downtown "Hidden Pictures" mural as a tribute to Bernadine Stetzel, a renowned Fremont artist who died in 2016. "I thought it would be a great idea to elevate somebody who was local," Scherzer said Thursday as he discussed the mural, which covers about 3,000 square feet on the Brady building. Stetzel tried primitive painting and found that she enjoyed the style. Many of her prints focus on her childhood in Tiffin, from winter scenes at the mill to fall farming scenes, during the Great Depression era. One of her paintings, โ€œThe Giftless Christmas,โ€ showed one of her familyโ€™s Christmases during the Depression. A News-Messenger profile of Stetzel in 2015 noted that one of her paintings was hanging in former Ohio Senator John Glenn's office. Her paintings โ€” mostly primitives comparable to the style of painter Grandma Moses โ€” hang in places around the country, including a museum in Dallas dedicated to President John.F. Kennedy. Scherzer and his assistant, Ken Dushane III, worked on the mural over three nights in the first week of August, with final touch ups done during the day Aug. 9. He said it took about 20 hours to complete the project. Downtown Fremont Inc. Executive Director Kristie Bilger said the mural project cost about $10,000, with the Sandusky County Communities Foundation funding $8,000 of it through a 2018 grant award. "I wanted something that was modern and had a specific Fremont tie to it," Bilger said. Bilger said Scherzer had done a multicultural mural on the side of the Share and Care building downtown and came up with the idea of honoring Stetzel. Scherzer and Dushane worked from dusk until 5 a.m. to complete their work on the mural. A time lapse video of the mural's creation can be found on Downtown Fremont, Inc.'s Facebook page. Scherzer researched Stezel's life and her memory paintings and created dozens of "hidden pictures" in the mural with references to her artwork. He said the mural has an education component, with the design being submitted to Fremont City Schools' elementary schools to be used in students' curriculum.
