Ah, it seems as if that even on the Midwinter Festival, our beloved Alex can still find some way to make Cog’s life a misery. Keep trying, Cog! Just...watch out for the shattered baubles at your feet...
Wait...since when was that hat there?
This is my Secret Santa gift for @miu15 , organised by @clockwork-fans. I hope you like it!
I’m sorry that this is a few hours late, but we have an extreme fire warning here in Australia; it’s 41 degrees Celsius, and so life’s a bit...hectic.
Clockwork is a comic by @chikuto, and I highly recommend it!
Gods it’s been months since I drew humans how do they work again?

Okay, this killed me. This really did me in while writing it, my heart wrenched, and I went through god only knows how many tubs of ice cream trying to keep myself afloat. But dear, you asked me to "kill your heart," full of angst, and so I deliver! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, @sothatgrass, from your Secret Santa!
WARNINGS: And yes, there’s a reason this is here.  We’ve got MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH, SUICIDE, implied and referenced MURDER.  This is an ADULT FANFICTION with CONTENT WARNINGS.  This was based off of ROMEO AND JULIET - and if you know how it ended, you probably know what to expect for this fic.
Please keep that in mind when you’re reading it!
And a huge thank you to @rusame-secret-santa-2017 for both hosting this event and helping me out by playing middle-person while I was working on the fic!  And to @usagi323 for helping me, giving me a second set of eyes over some of the wording, and the plot holes! Thank you so much!!!  I hope you enjoyed it!

5 Shows That Ended Way Too Soon
I had zero idea what to write about and I wasn’t feeling anything in my drafts so I asked Instagram (@sammysreelreviews) and my friend Anthony graciously suggested this. There are more shows that ended I could’ve written about but to be honest these were the only ones where I like was PISSED. Although I do have to say I’m still mad they canceled The Secret Circle, Eye Candy, and The Lying Game, I’m posting on Halloween next week and it’s going to be a VERY special list of films so stay tuned and enjoy!!!
1. American Vandal: Netflix (2017-2018)
Tumblr media
I’ve written about this show a few times before but it’s so well written sometimes I forget it’s a comedy because the faux mystery is so well written! In the first season the mystery was about who drew the dicks on the car and the second season was even better when someone called the turd burglar drugged a school’s lemonade and they needed to find out who it was. I don’t know how this show got canceled cause it got a lot of buzz on Twitter and it’s one the highest rated Netflix originals, ever!
2. The Amazing World of Gumball: Cartoon Network (2011-2019)
Tumblr media
Cartoon Network has been consistent with their content and I used to always catch episodes of Gumball on TV but I never committed. One day I decided to watch it on Hulu and my life changed for the better. If you know me you know I LOVE cartoons and especially cartoons that are funny. Gumball ended on a HUGE FUCKING CLIFFHANGER and boy was I pissed! There were talks of a movie and nothing really ever happened with that BUT, HBO Max has not only revived one of my ABSOLUTE favorites, Adventure Time, for epilogue episodes but they are also obtaining the entire Cartoon Network catalogue so I’m praying that Gumball gets the ending it deserves!
3. The Santa Clarita Diet: Netflix (2017-2019)
Tumblr media
To be honest I was apprehensive watching this but I STAN miss Drew Barrymore so obviously I binged it all in one day and ended up loving it! I would’ve never cast Timothy Olyphant and Drew as husband and wife but goddamn it they were a top tier couple! I can not believe Netflix couldn’t give us one more damn season! It was one of the most original shows I’ve ever seen and Netflix should be sued for canceling it.
4. The Carrie Diaries: The CW (2013-2014)
Tumblr media
The Sex and the City prequel came out when the CW was still in their prime and it actually made you like Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb)! It only got two seasons but we didn’t even meet the rest of the gang yet! The cast not only was CW hot but they were all great actors taking on fresh material. This show gave us Austin Butler with a hot car and an 80’s Samantha Jones (the fantastic Lindsey Gort) and I will be forever thankful for that.
5. Baby Daddy: Freeform (2012-2017)
Tumblr media
Baby Daddy was a modern sitcom that was genuinely so funny! It’s a show I watch over and over again cause it’s just so good. The cast works so well together and Tj Mowry honestly deserves an Emmy playing Tucker. It got cancelled  so randomly and we never got a satisfying end! It seems that Freeform is always canceling good shows and I’m about to fight them.
Happy Death Day 3
Tumblr media
Okay I know that this isn’t a show but we deserve a third movie!!! The second one left it at such a potentially funny turning point! Blumhouse, GET IT TOGETHER!!!

                                            <——-<<
Oliver heard the front door slam announcing William’s arrival home from school. He was reviewing some notes for the city council meeting tomorrow, but the loud shout of ‘Oliver!’ snatched his attention and he sprinted from his desk. Fearing the worst, Oliver nearly bowled over his son in the living room. However, the gigantic grin that greeted him immediately calmed his worries. Oliver placed a hand on his chest and blew out a deep breath. His heart raced beneath his fingertips.
“What’s up, buddy?”
“Look! I did it! I got the ‘A’!”
Stapled sheets of paper were shoved in Oliver’s face, and it took him a few seconds to focus the rows and rows of numbers and symbols and make sense of what they meant. William passed his math test. A grin rivaling his son’s spread across Oliver’s face.
“William, that’s great! And you know what, this deserves a place of honor.”
Turning, Oliver walked across the room towards the kitchen.
“Oliver, really…” William weakly protested.
But nothing stopped Oliver from holding that test up to the fridge and placing a magnet right in the middle. The bright, red ‘A’ stood out in the corner. He smiled back at his son, his expression shining with a deep pride. William replied with a roll of his eyes.
“I don’t care if you think that it’s lame, or you’re ‘too old’ for your work to be on the fridge. You worked your butt off for that ‘A’ and I’m proud of you.”
William looked down and shuffled his feet. “Thanks,” he mumbled.
“And hey,” Oliver said while clasping William’s shoulder, “Never hesitate to ask me for help. Even if I can’t help you, I’ll do whatever I can to find something or someone to help.”
Remaining silent, William nodded and the lingering awkwardness between the pair began to rear its head.
“Alright,” Oliver clapped his hands hoping to break the tension. “This calls for a celebration. The pot roast has about an hour left, so what’s your favorite dessert? I’ll whip it up and pop it in the oven while we eat dinner. Cookies? Brownies?”
William perked up at the suggestion. “Chocolate cheesecake brownies?”
Oliver paused. “I’ve never made them, but I’m always up for a challenge. Chocolate cheesecake brownies coming right up.”
William smiled. “Cool. I’ll just start on my homework.”
Swinging his backpack onto his shoulder, he headed for his room, but stopped at the threshold.
“Hey, Oliver?”
“Yea, bud?”
“Could you thank Felicity for me the next time you talk to her. She was a really big help.”
Oliver’s mouth ticked up in a small smile. “You got it.”
With a quick nod in thanks, William disappeared into his room and the door slid closed.
His smile grew once William was out of site and Oliver glanced at the test again. It was as if all the puzzle pieces clicked into place. He mentally debated for weeks when would be the appropriate time to give Felicity the extra apartment key. But seeing Felicity and William get along  so well, there was nothing left holding him back. Watching her quirky genius and his inquisitive mind work together, Oliver swore nothing felt so right. Not since he saw Felicity cooing over a newly born J.J. Diggle had Oliver felt such longing. He once more saw the future he wanted, and now it was just within reach.
Setting the brownie mixture in the fridge to chill, Oliver walked back to his home office and opened the top right drawer in his desk. He picked up the key and smiled at the silly, geek emoji keychain he found when grocery shopping the other week. Tomorrow he would pick up a gift box and stop by the loft. It was time to grab onto his future, and hold on tight.
>> ——- >
“… His life will be better with you in it. Just like mine.”
“Are you sure… that’s what you want?”
“I’m sure.”
If Felicity was one to swoon she would most likely be headed to the floor right now, hoping that Oliver would catch her sudden descent. However, the man in front of her didn’t make her swoon – at least not physically – he just turned her on something fierce! Her dormant libido awoke from its year and a half sleep with a vengeance, and demanded immediate attention. So, as Oliver stepped forward for nothing more than a hug, Felicity launched forward and crashed their lips together. Everything spiraled deliciously from there.
Their kiss sparked the smoldering embers of their feelings, turning them into a fiery blaze. Stepping closer to Oliver, Felicity pushed at his leather jacket, needing it off. She wanted more of him; craved the feeling of him beneath her fingertips. Their movements became frantic and needy. With all the grasping, and pulling, and gulps of air it was only a matter of time before they became the victims of gravity. Oliver bumped into a cluttered end table and sent them both tumbling onto the new red loveseat.
Felicity squeaked in surprise as they fell, but once landing safely both she and Oliver burst into laughter, realizing just how caught up in the moment they were. Sharing a smile, Oliver cupped Felicity’s neck and lightly caressed her cheek.
“I’ve missed you,” he spoke softly. He eyes sparkled with adoration.
Felicity’s tongue peaked out and wet her bottom lip. She fought against the gigantic grin threatening to take over her face. “Yeah,” she agreed, closing the distance between them. “I’ve missed you too.”
This kiss started more slowly. However, the fevered itch clawing in both of their bellies fanned the flames, and they were back at it within seconds. Clothes became a hindrance to what they really wanted, so Oliver sat up with Felicity straddling his lap and made quick work of her bra and pajama top. Following his lead, Felicity ripped Oliver’s shirt up over his head, breaking their lip-lock, then scooted off of his lap to divest herself of her pants and underwear.
Oliver, dazed by lust, took a moment to gaze upon the gorgeous woman standing before him. Once he was able to focus, his breath caught in his throat and he unconsciously wet his lips. His eyes traveled from head to toe, taking in everything like it was the first time he was seeing her. Felicity shifted on her feet, but she wasn’t nervous. Having done this all before, there was no reason to be shy. This wasn’t a beginning, but a reunion, a reconnecting. That butterfly feeling might remain, but she wasn’t scared of it this time.
In a blink, Felicity found Oliver had gracefully moved to stand right in front of her. His chiseled chest drew her attention as it rose and fell with every deep, shuddering breath. Itching to touch him, her fingers ghosted over the hills and valleys of his torso. Oliver gasped and his body trembled. Felicity’s exploration didn’t get much farther as he lifted her into the air and began to move. Her arms and legs automatically locked around his body, and her gaze was now captivated by the intense, heated stare Oliver gave her. This would have been her swoon-worthy moment if her feet were touching the ground.
Feeling herself being lowered to the ground, Felicity wondered where exactly Oliver moved them. However, once the smooth, stretchy spandex started conforming to her body, she smiled and mentally congratulated herself on the brilliant idea of purchasing this oversized bean bag chair.
“Curtis is going to be upset when I tell him he isn’t going to want to sit on this thing anymore.”
Oliver cocked an eyebrow. “I’ll buy 15 of them for his own house if you promise to never say another man’s name right before we have sex.”
Felicity giggled and bit her lip. She missed their banter. A lot.
Hovering over her, Oliver smirked, ending the moment by continuing where they left off. He released her bottom lip from her teeth by pulling it free with his own, and then plundered her mouth like a man starved. Moaning, Felicity’s hands carded through his hair and her hips rose to seek that delicious friction when she discovered he was still wearing his jeans. Ripping her mouth from his, Felicity tried to gather her words when Oliver turned to his second favorite past time of making out with her neck. What did she want to say again?
“Pants,” Felicity panted. “Pants off, now!”
Oliver grunted as he attempted to balance while removing the rest of his clothing. It was uncoordinated and bumpy, causing Felicity to giggle before she knocked his hands out of the way and took care of the button and zipper herself. They smiled into their kiss as Oliver finally rid himself of his jeans and boxers.
Wrapping her legs back around him, Felicity skimmed her hand down Oliver’s stubbled jaw. “Don’t go slow, and don’t you dare be gentle.”
A second later, Felicity’s head flew back as she cried out. Oliver obeyed her demand with vigor. It may have been over a year since ‘chinese and wine’ in the bunker, but it was as if they never parted. With Oliver’s fast, steady pace and him once again attacking her neck with kisses, Felicity felt centered. She was flying, yet completely grounded. This was right. This was home.
Oliver lost himself in the feeling. He never expected the evening to take this turn, but he wasn’t about to bite the hand feeding him. The woman he loved was in his arms again and no way in hell was he letting go. Since the craziness on Lian Yu and suddenly becoming a single parent, he felt the weight of stress and panic slowly closing in. But as long as he had Felicity beside him, he knew he would be able to make it through the other side. She was his light, his beacon. Problems seemed easier when they were together.
Grunting, Oliver tried to stave off his orgasm, which was approaching much faster than he would have liked. Reaching between their bodies, he found her slick, little bundle of nerves, and circled rapidly with his thumb.
“Oliver!” Felicity cried, then kissed him with every emotion coursing through her body.
Her nails dug into his skin as she scraped her fingers across his back. Like a master musician, this man always knew how to play her body like a fine instrument, and good Google had she missed it!
Oliver wasn’t going to let this end until Felicity joined him, so he ramped up his pace. When he felt her begin to flutter around him, he stopped holding back. Grunts and screams meddled with the hum of electronics throughout the room, and the pair flew over the edge together. Completely boneless, they collapsed and sank further into the plush cushion of the beanbag chair. Oliver’s hot, heavy breath panted against the side Felicity’s neck and did absolutely nothing to cool her wet, sticky body. The temperature between their bodies seemed to reach sweltering levels, but Felicity didn’t want him to move. Didn’t want this moment to end just yet.
With much effort, Felicity managed to move her arms around Oliver’s back and head, hoping to keep him there a few seconds longer. However, her movements appeared to shake Oliver from his post-orgasmic stupor. His head shifted, and he began a trail of kisses starting at her shoulder, up her neck until he reached her lips. The kiss was slow, and lazy. It brought flashes of beach beds, and Bali sunsets from Felicity’s memory. Tightening her arms and bringing her legs into the mix, she really didn’t want this to end.
Oliver found himself lost in the moment as well, forgetting where he was. Felicity was in his embrace and that’s all that mattered. Shifting slightly so he wasn’t lying completely on to of her, their post-coital peace was interrupted by a sudden beeping near Oliver’s feet. Felicity’s face scrunched as she tried to place the source of the sound.
“Is that one of mine?”
“No,” Oliver strained as he pushed himself into a sitting position. “It’s mine. It’s William.”
Reaching for the crumpled pile of his clothes, he pulled his phone out of his jeans pocket and checked the new text message. Felicity sat up and curled around him, resting her chin on his shoulder.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah… he’s just wondering if I’ll be home soon. We’ve sort of have this evening tradition now before he goes to bed. We turn a game on TV, and if he feels like talking, we talk. It’s been… good.“
“I’m glad to hear it. You two deserve to know each other and be a family.”
Oliver looked at her and smiled. Felicity melted inside seeing him so happy.
“However, it seems that I’ve lost track of the time.”
His smile turned into a smirk, and Felicity hid her responding smile against his skin. They shared a look before Felicity finally tilted her face up and touched her lips to Oliver’s. When they separated, they were nothing but smiles.
“I hate to hit and run.” Oliver winced at how horrible that sounded.
But Felicity just laughed. “It’s okay. It’s not like we planned this or anything. And it sounds like William needs you.”
Slowly they stood and began to dress. Stealing looks and small smiles, their movements were comfortable and unhurried. Finally, Oliver slipped on his leather jacket and turned to a now clothed Felicity.
“So…”
“So…” Felicity parroted.
“I guess I’ll just…” Oliver gestured toward the door.
Felicity grinned and took a step toward him. “Thank you for the key.”
Oliver took a step towards her. “Thank you for accepting it.”
Their arms wrapped around each other and they shared another soft kiss.
“Looks like I’m going to need to find an excuse to stop by soon,” Felicity teased as they continued to hold one another.
“Well, I heard the Mayor might be having some personal computer issues…”
Felicity groaned dramatically. “Did you go to the coffee shop in the bad neighborhood again?”
Oliver chuckled and shook his head, grinning ear to ear. “Hey,” he nudged her slightly, “you know you don’t need an excuse to come over.”
“Yeah, I know.”
“Good night, Felicity,” Oliver said softly.
“Good night.”
With one final peck of the lips and a flirty wink, Oliver was out the door and heading back to his son.
<——-<<
Felicity danced and hummed along to the song on the radio as she drove through downtown Star City heading towards her apartment. The sun had set long ago, but instead of manning Team Arrow from behind her computers, the team was given an unexpected early night. With no chatter from the police department or any immediate threats to the team, Digg made the call for everyone to go home. If something came up the police couldn’t handle, Felicity’s system would alert them.
Slowing to stop at a red light, Felicity froze mid-head bob when she realized what intersection she was stopped at. A left hand turn would put her right at Oliver’s door. A smile spread across her face. Maybe the mayor had some time for her to look at his computer problems tonight. Felicity giggled to herself. Plus, she should probably check that her key worked. Leaving no time for second-guessing, Felicity quickly turned left as soon as the light changed green.
Thankfully, Oliver’s new apartment had its own parking garage, so she didn’t have to find parking on the street, and 10 minutes later she was standing outside his door. Key poised just outside of the lock, Felicity took a deep breath. It wasn’t that she was nervous, but her stomach swooped with excitement and uncertainty. Would Oliver and William be in the middle of something? Would she feel unwelcome? Maybe today wasn’t the day to do this. Shaking her head she steeled her nerve; she needed to stop overthinking. Slipping the key in, Felicity unlocked the door and slowly pushed it open.
Greeted with the fading smell of a delicious dinner, Felicity’s eyes immediately locked on to Oliver. With his back to her, Felicity stood a moment in the doorway to admire the way his body moved as he washed dishes. That man definitely knew how to fill out a well-tailored button-up shirt, and boy, had she missed seeing that everyday. Especially when he was relaxed and had his sleeves rolled up to the elbow.
Shaking her head, Felicity pushed the door open further and the low squeak of the hinges caught Oliver’s attention. His head swung around to see who the unexpected guest was.
“Felicity,” he breathed. The bright grin that spread across his face threatened to blind anyone is close proximity.
His smile was so full of happiness and excitement that Felicity couldn’t help, but mimic with one of her own. “I hope this isn’t too late.”
“No!” Oliver quickly dried off his hands and moved out of the kitchen towards her
“I just… I heard the mayor was having some computer problems, so I thought now was as good a time to stop by as any.”
Oliver’s smiled never faltered as he cocked a teasing eyebrow. “Well, the mayor is very appreciative that you are willing to make house calls.”
Giggling, Felicity dropped her gaze. Now her stomach fluttered with nerves. Where the hell did this come from? But she couldn’t ponder the thought for long when Oliver’s hand cupped her chin and tilted her face back to his.
“I just wanted to see if my key worked,” she whispered, lost in his crystal blue eyes.
“I’m really happy you’re here,” Oliver whispered back.
Like two magnets, the pair drifted together until their lips locked and their arms wrapped around the other. They lost themselves quickly. Not because the kiss was heated or leading to… other things, but because it felt like coming home. The first steps to their new beginning together.
“Felicity?”
The new voice startled the pair, and Felicity ripped her mouth away from Oliver’s, staring at him wide-eyed with fear. Slowly they turned to face William as he looked back at them with confusion painted across his face.
“H – hey, William.” Felicity gave a small wave, still trapped in Oliver’s embrace.
“Were you stopping by for dinner?” William spared a glance at the now clean kitchen, “Because we already ate.”
“I – uh, I… um.”
“Have you eaten dinner yet?” Oliver jumped in and saved Felicity’s fumbling. “We have a ton of leftovers and I’m more than happy to heat some up.”
Felicity opened her mouth, an excuse right at the tip of her tongue, but the words refused to come out. Because, the thought of leaving just yet made her heart feel heavy. She wanted to spend time with her boys. Wait, her boys?
“I would love some.” No more overthinking. The tension drained from Felicity’s shoulders as she smiled up at Oliver. “You know I’d never say no to your cooking.”
William brightened at her words as well. “If I brought my homework out to the table, would you mind taking a look at it? I have a couple of questions.”
“Sure, I can totally multitask.”
Sitting around the dining room table, Felicity slowly devoured Oliver’s delicious meal, while guiding William through his latest algebra assignment. The kid was bright; he just needed to trust himself a little bit more. Oliver sat to Felicity’s right, sipping his own glass of the wine they were sharing. He didn’t talk as they worked, because watching his son and his – girlfriend? – bond would never get old. Oliver thought he knew true contentment in Ivy town, but he was wrong. This, right here, was what he wanted for the rest of his life.
“I’m lucky you stopped by tonight, Felicity. I think I’m getting the hang of this.”
Felicity smiled. William definitely inherited his father’s charm.
“Actually, bud, Felicity might be coming around more often now. Is that okay with you?”
Sliding his hand across the table to grab Felicity’s, Oliver gave her a loving smile before turning to William.
Shrugging, William played with the pencil in his hand. “Sure, Felicity’s cool.”
“Aww.” Felicity gave him an adorable pout. “Where were you when I was in middle school?”
William blushed and ducked his head.
“So, have you finished all your homework?” Oliver asked as he began to clean up Felicity’s dishes .
“Yep.”
“Alright, well I did promise you could stay up and watch the Seahawks game if you finished early. Put your homework away and I’ll grab the snacks.”
“Cool. Are you going to stay for the game, Felicity?”
The lilt of excitement in his question made her laugh. “No. Sorry. Sports and I don’t understand each other.”
“I could always try explaining the game to you again,” Oliver teased.
Felicity rolled her eyes at him. “You just enjoy watching my eyes glaze over.”
“It doesn’t happen often, it’s fun it when it does.” He winked.
Turning back to William, Felicity ignored Oliver’s teasing. “I also have a long day tomorrow, so I should probably head out.”
William nodded. “Okay. Well, have a good night.”
“You too,” she called after him as he headed for his room.
Now alone with Oliver, she directed her attention back to him and found he still wore a laughing smile. “It’s not funny. Sports are boring.”
“Sports are only boring if you don’t understand them.” He bit his lip to keep from laughing out loud.
“Exactly, sports are boring!”
Shaking his head, Oliver set Felicity’s dishes in the sink. “I’ll walk you out when you’re ready.”
After grabbing what little belongings she had, the pair made their way to the door.
“Thanks for dinner.”
“Thanks for coming over.”
Leaning forward, they shared a quick kiss.
“You know,” Felicity feigned a deep thought. “I think I might pop by more often.”
“I think you should.”
They chuckled and shared one last kiss.
“Goodnight, Oliver.”
“Goodnight, Felicity.”
She slipped out the door, and made her way down the hallway to the elevator.
“Felicity!”
Pivoting at Oliver’s call, Felicity found him leaning against the door jam watching her walk away.
“Would you go to dinner with me?”
Her forehead crinkled. He wanted to go on date? “Wait, like a date?”
Oliver grinned as he pushed off the door jam and walked towards her. “Yeah, like a date date.”
He was teasing her again.
“But, Oliver we kind’ve did that bit already. And – in case you forgot – things didn’t end so well.”
Now standing in front of her, her grabbed her hands. “Eh, I’m liking my odds this time around.”
Felicity was a little stunned, but Oliver’s smile was contagious, so she couldn’t help but join him. “Any idea where you want to go?”
“Hmm… I’m not quite sure yet; however, I do have one request.” Leaning in close, Oliver’s lips brushed her ear as he whispered, “Wear something red.”

Risky Business; Ch.1: Don’t Get in Trouble
Hello @pancakes1173, apologies if this is late! I wasn’t your SS originally for the @rusame-secret-santa-2017, however I’m here to save the day! I had a difficult time trying to keep this under control, but here it is. I hope it was well-worth the wait!
I went with the mafia au where Al needs protecting and Ivan’s his big, buff, deadly handsome bodyguard.
cw for injuries and cursing (courtesy of Al, of course). Also available on: ao3
“You’re giving me another bodyguard? Again?”
The blonde let out an exasperated sigh, before glancing at the tall, burly man that was standing across the table, just behind his boss. “Yes, Alfred, because you have to remember: we’re in the middle of a war. And you, as one of our best assets, need the protection,” groused Arthur, before sliding another folder across the table. “Make sure that only you and your brother read that. Speaking of which, he’s getting a new bodyguard as well.”
“Wait, what?! But I thought you already—” the younger man began, reaching for the folder and opening it. After a few minutes of scanning the contents, his eyebrows shot up so high, they threatened to vanish into his hairline. “Okay, this is just as crazy as the last assignment you gave me, if not even worse. You’re absolutely certain I need him to protect me?” he continued, gesturing to the other man in the room. As he looked at the other person in the room, he couldn’t help but wonder—where had he seen that gaze before, the one staring at him from behind the simple black mask he wore?
The other individual seemed to think the same, his own eyes widening slightly as he caught sight of the person he was assigned to protect—but before Alfred could voice out what was on his mind, Arthur’s voice called him back to the present, breaking his train of thought.
“Yes, Alfred, now don’t be such a stubborn asshole. Hell knows how far your fighting skills—or lack thereof—can take you. If you take on this, with your brother, without protection, I’m more than certain we’ll not only lose what we’ve gained so far, but we’ll get set back by several months—if not up to a year—with what Yao’s planning. You know full well we’re just the executioners, Yao calls all the shots. In fact, it was his idea that you two brothers get the new bodyguards in the first place.”
“Yeah, yeah, alright, alright, I get the point, d—Arthur,” he replied as he caught himself, holding up both his hands before picking up the folder and holding it in his free hand. “I’ll see to it that Mattie reads this. Hell knows how much trouble we’ll all get into if this fails.”
An hour had passed after that eventful meeting, and Alfred was now making his way back home through the dark alleyways and back streets accompanied by his new bodyguard, his suspicions still bothering him. No sooner had he texted his older brother Matthew about the details of their new assignment, he knew that they were getting in way over their heads, as they always did. It was just in their nature as hackers to do so.
They’d skirted past several shortcuts when Alfred decided to turn around and scratch the proverbial itch that was bothering him. He couldn’t help but wonder—he knew that the man’s gaze looked horribly familiar. Hoping that his suspicions were wrong, he then cleared his throat before speaking up, breaking the silence that had fallen between them.
“Look, this has been bothering me since earlier, but…” he trailed off, reaching for his phone once again and looking at the message he’d received from his brother—no doubt having been briefed about their situation. After firing off a quick reply to him, he then decided to text a particular number, saying that he would be coming home late. Once the message had sent, he then returned his phone to his pocket, before turning around to continue on the journey back to their safehouse.
He’d missed the very subtle motions his bodyguard had gone through when he felt his own phone vibrate; nor did Alfred see that he’d hung back a few paces to send a reply, no doubt to the one that had texted him a few moments ago saying that he’d be coming home late—and that even he’d be arriving rather late as well and to not wait up for his arrival. Once the message had been sent, he then kept his phone, and kept an eye on the man in front of him.
The other man’s suspicions were confirmed as Alfred came to a stop before digging something out of his pocket, and he silently observed as the blonde bit his lip in a very familiar fashion, a trait he tended to do when he was thinking of what to say. His own fingers then flew across the keyboard, telling the other to be careful on the way home; and that he’d have a sandwich waiting for him on the kitchen counter upon his arrival from wherever he needed to be.
After he sent this reply, he then slid his phone back into his pocket; before continuing to walk forward, looking around ever so often just in case they were being followed; his new ‘bodyguard’ following him in a silent march. He didn’t hear the click of the safety releasing as his companion loaded a fresh magazine into his concealed weapon, before his field of vision suddenly lurched forward and several shots rang out above his head.
“Whoa, what the fuck?!” he yelled as he instinctively cradled his hands over his head as more shots rang out—and he eventually ended up kissing the ground due to falling hard. Much as he wanted to ask what was going on, he decided to keep his mouth shut as the gunfire continued, before he heard the familiar sound of a reloading magazine catching his attention before more shots rang out from above him.
See, this is the problem when you work for the mafia, you don’t know when you’ll get shot in a fucking dark alleyway! I swear, this regally sucks! He thought to himself as the shots then came to a stop, before he felt his center of gravity shift as his bodyguard roughly pulled him up and then pointed ahead of him. “What? You want me to run? And leave you behind?! No way, man! Come on!” he hissed, plucking the other’s sleeve as he began to run, before another round of gunfire echoed above and around them.
“I swear, don’t make this difficult for me! Come on, let’s go! I don’t want you to die here!” he yelled at his masked bodyguard, before insistently pulling him forward. The whizz of bullets by his feet caused him to yelp, before be put all his weight into pulling his bodyguard forward as he began to run away from where they were being set upon by gunmen from multiple sides. “I’m not moving until you come with me! I know you’re taking your job as a bodyguard seriously, but don’t get yourself killed!” he added, still struggling to drag the taller person along as the gunfire intensified.
And still his companion refused to talk, instead shoving him forward and forcing him to move as the gun in his hands ran out of bullets. “No!” Alfred shouted as he was literally forced to move forward as the other hastily reloaded another magazine into the gun and continued firing at the unknown attackers. “Dude, I swear, don’t be such a hard ass! You may be my bodyguard, but don’t throw your life away over me! I’m sure you have… a family waiting for you, right?!” he continued, barely budging an inch and shouting over the gunfire that continued to rain down around them.
Bullets continued to ricochet around them, some barely missing Alfred and his companion as more gunfire echoed from all around them. While Alfred was stubborn as an ox, his companion was even worse—refusing to budge an inch until he’d began his escape. Seeing that his companion refused to move unless he moved, the blonde groaned, before eventually making a break as he ran forward. “You better catch up to me, I swear! Art will have my head if I lose another bodyguard!” he yelled as he broke out into a sprint in order to get away from the battleground.
However, things would progress from bad to worse in the span of the few moments he’d wasted shouting at his companion. Alfred had barely taken twenty paces from where he’d left his bodyguard when he felt a sudden pain burning from his right thigh. Yelping in surprise, he looked down and saw that the leg of his jeans were getting stained with what looked like…
“Ah, fuck, no!” he growled, struggling to get up so that he could keep running. “Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit…” he muttered to himself, managing to stand and limp forward a few more paces before he felt another burning pain sear through his body, catching him by surprise. The blonde then looked at his left shoulder and saw blood staining his shirt…
“Damn it!” he snarled just as his companion caught up to him, having reloaded another magazine into his gun and firing above him. “Shit, I’m sorry,” he continued, pressing his right hand to the wound in his shoulder in an attempt to stop the bleeding. “M-my mistake,” he added, wincing as he continued to press down harder, forcing himself to move forward to no avail, before slumping against the wall. “Ugh, ow…” he groaned as he attempted to press his left hand to the wound on his right thigh to stop the bleeding as well. “Fuckin’ hurts…” he muttered as he leaned against the wall in an attempt to keep moving forward. He had to get home, otherwise the other one waiting for him would worry…
Before he could force himself to move forward despite the fact his legs were now shaking, he felt a pair of arms suddenly pick him up from where he stood and dash forward through the gunfire. “D-d’you even know wh-where my apartment is…” he muttered softly as he forced himself to stay awake despite the burning pain in his thigh and shoulder.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got you…” his companion rumbled softly before the blackness swimming at the edge of his consciousness swallowed him.
A hiss of pain brought Alfred back to the world of the waking as he looked around frantically—and met a very familiar gaze. “Shh, don’t move,” he heard a familiar voice say, before he felt the sting of antiseptic being rubbed into his shoulder. “Ow! What the—Vanya?!” he began, startled as he blinked the cobwebs in his eyes away.
The nagging suspicion from earlier then hit him like a train as he realized just where he was. How’d he end up in Ivan’s apartment? The very last he remembered was running through an alleyway with a newly-assigned bodyguard…
“…it was you?!” he began, his voice rising, before hissing as Ivan continued to clean up the bullet wound in his shoulder. “You—you’re my bodyguard?!” he spat out, before he felt a hand shove him back down on the couch.
“And you… you didn’t tell me you worked for Wang Yao,” Ivan hissed back as he continued to dab disinfectant into the wound on the blonde’s shoulder. “I know you work in IT, but a hacker? A hacker for the mafia? Fedya, really,” he continued, disapproval evident in his voice.
“Well, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner! I didn’t know how to… well, I didn’t want you to get involved in the shit I’m neck-deep in!” he yowled back as a thick wad of drenched gauze was applied to his shoulder. He could smell vodka on the gauze, before he felt even more bandages being wrapped around the injury as Ivan worked quickly.
“Don’t worry about the wound on your thigh, I already got that treated as best as I could while you were passed out,” he continued gruffly, wrapping the bandages tightly around Alfred’s shoulder. “I’m going to have to call Arthur and tell him what happened—”
“No! Don’t!” Alfred yelped from his current position on the couch. “He’ll lose his shit again!” he added, before realizing—“The information! Van—Ivan, have you seen the information Arthur gave me?!”
“I have it right here,” he continued, gesturing to the coffee table where the folder that Alfred had perused some hours ago currently lay. “Don’t worry, it’s safe.”
“But… wait, where are we? This isn’t my place—”
“I know, Fedya, it is my apartment. I am very certain that your apartment has now been compromised, so I took the liberty of moving some of your more… ah, important items here to my place. Until we can find another safe place for you, you can stay here in my apartment until then.”
“Th-thank you,” he replied gruffly, blinking as he made to sit up on the couch. “W-well, I guess my secret’s out… while I do work for an Information Technology department during the day, I have a second job—I work for the mafia. As you’ve obviously guessed,” he began with a flat voice, before a humorless chuckle erupted from his lips.
“…well, Fedya, you are lucky I’m your new bodyguard. I did not know that your evening job was this dangerous, though,” Ivan said as he swept off to the kitchen, to get some food for the both of them ready. “We should get your injuries checked out, though—”
“Vanya, do you think we can just waltz into an emergency room and tell them, ‘oh, I got shot by the mafia’ as a reason for my injuries? I’d rather think not…” Alfred retorted, before hearing a growl coming from his stomach, which he ignored for the time being. “But seriously, though, you shouldn’t go through all that bother for me, I’m such a—”
“No, Fedya, you aren’t. Although I do remember that we agreed not to keep secrets from each other, correct?” he said from the kitchenette as he quickly prepared food for the both of them.
“Y-yeah, that’s my mistake,” the younger one admitted sheepishly as he made himself more comfortable on the couch before wincing in pain. “W-well… at least we don’t have any secrets hidden from each other now. R-right?”
“…I suppose so,” the taller one continued as he finished throwing together several sandwiches for them to eat. “You better call your brother and have him come over here instead so that you two can get started on the assignment that Yao gave you both,” he added as an afterthought, bringing out a plate of sandwiches to the other so that he could eat.
Nodding, Alfred then reached for his phone and sent a message to his older brother, informing him of the change in plans and to go to the address indicated in the message instead. Once that was done, he then reached for a sandwich and tore into it without a second thought. After he’d downed one sandwich, he then found his voice again just as Ivan had brought him something to drink.
“Iv—Vanya,” he began after he’d eaten several more sandwiches, “…honestly, what do you think of me now? Now that you know I work for the mafia during the evening…” he asked, avoiding the other’s gaze as Ivan joined him on the couch. “Are… are you mad?”
Total silence followed afterward, which was only interrupted as the other man made to take a sandwich that Alfred hadn’t eaten yet. After musing to himself, he had an answer. “Well, Fedya… at least I can keep an eye on you now. Although, isn’t it a bit dangerous for you to be out in the open now?”
“Well, me an’ Mattie are always in over our heads, you know this, but… well, we’re in it for another reason entirely. We just… well, we want to keep our family out of trouble, that’s all…” he answered, averting his gaze as he finished off the sandwich he was holding before reaching for the laptop that was on the coffee table beside the folder that contained their assignment.
“Vanya, babe, can you keep an eye out for Mattie when he arrives? I’m going to get started on what Da—I mean, what Arthur wants me to get done,” he caught himself saying again, reaching for the folder and preparing to get to ‘work’.
“Certainly, Fedya. I’ll let you know once he gets here,” Ivan replied, busying himself as he cleaned his gun while keeping an eye out on the door as he did so. “Although, I will insist that you go to the hospital after you two finish what you need to do, to get your injuries properly checked at.”
“Alright, alright, Vanya… after we get this done. Shouldn’t take too long, y’know,” he muttered, resisting the urge to roll his eyes as he turned his attention to the laptop screen in front of him, preparing to infiltrate and sabotage a highly-important server. While Alfred was the better one at infiltrating, it was his older brother Matthew that was much more adept at destroying the internal structures of whatever they needed to invade. There was a reason why the brothers worked better as a team, after all.
Being a part of the mafia definitely had its risks; but for the Williams brothers, there really wasn’t anything else to it.

Question about the Secret Santa application: what does it mean when it’s asking for “prompts/optional details”?
It just means things you might be interested in seeing, or would hope to see! (Ex: Cog and Boris having a snowball fight, Gaz in a sexy santa outfit, etc) Sometimes people don’t have many ideas on what to do for their gift, so this section could be a source of inspiration if they need it.

2019-20 TV Season Recap
Previous TV Season Recaps - (2013-14 | 2014-15 | 2015-16 | 2016-17 | 2017-18 | 2018-19) JULY 2, 2020 UPDATED WITH RANKINGS FOR WATCHMEN AND FINAL SEASONS OF GAME OF THRONES CLICK HERE TO JUMP RIGHT TO THEM Greetings, and welcome to my yearly TV season breakdown of all the shows I followed that were released during the past school year. For newer readers, please take a peek at previous TV recaps above that go as far back to the 2013-14 season. I usually try and watch a couple more shows during the summer and will update the top of this entry with an addendum link to new shows I kept up with during the summer. I will keep up my tradition of beginning with some animation shows….
Tumblr media
South Park - This is a slight improvement from last year’s season, and it continues South Park’s return to form of episodic storylines. There were a couple dud episodes sprinkled in, but I was a fan of most of the ten shows this season. Standouts were cable TV installers fighting the war on streaming services, criticizing the Chinese government’s censorship to the point of getting South Park banned in China and an awesome season finale that sees Randy’s pot farm in despair when pot is outlawed during Christmas season so he turns to growing cocaine and gets everyone, including Santa and Jesus, hooked on it. Grade: B Simpsons - Last few years I have stuck to watching a few episodes a year of The Simpsons and Family Guy to at least have that constant association with those long lasting shows. Usually it is only the season premiere, finale and the Christmas episode of each show. The Simpsons I will also watch its annual Treehouse of Horror special, but something about this season kept me coming back to it where I watched nearly half of their episodes this season. They had their first ever Thanksgiving of Horror special which I was surprised with the amount of gore that got in. With this being the first full season of the show where it officially fell under the Disney ownership umbrella, there are now constant Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel references throughout, but likely due to the nature of the show it was not that intrusive to put up with. I really dug an episode with the Flanders coming to terms on reconciling with Maude’s death in a ‘special’ episode. Other fun episodes were the return of Sideshow Bob for the Christmas special and a touching season finale centering around Santa’s Little Helper, complete with a flashback to a clip of the very first Simpsons episode in 1989. Grade: B+
Tumblr media
The Conners - Loving how most of the cast is settling into their roles by this point. I was thrilled to see the family regain ownership and reopen ‘The Lunchbox.’ Loved episodes that centered on that homey diner in the original. Sara Gilbert and John Goodman continue to carry the show on their backs. Seeing Dan’s dilemma of coming to terms with accepting the passing of Roseanne and committing to Louise was a chase that was worth following all season and had a gratifying payoff. I loved the ups and downs of Darlene and Ben’s relationship this season, and Ben has easily won me over as a regular on the show and I hope he is there to stay. Harris on the other hand…not so much. I would love to see more of DJ and his family in the mix, and it is disheartening to see he seems like such an afterthought of the show. Seeing Becky’s newfound motherhood troubles were a bit much to keep up with but it had its moments. One nagging issue I have with the series that has now been back for three seasons is that they never addressed what happened to Jackie's kid yet from the original run which is kind of ridiculous. Not even in a passing ‘Fred has custody now on the other side of the country’ sort of way. I was hoping to see Fred make a surprise return for an episode or something to address that, but will have to keep my fingers crossed for season four. Loved most of this season minus the Harris-centered episodes, and a couple of plotlines and barbs that felt like overkill. Grade: B+ Arrow – It was bittersweet to see the final episode of Arrow this past January. It was the last show I kept up with in the DC line of CW shows since I dropped the other couple midseason last year because it became too much to keep up with. Oliver had a fond farewell as the entire season built up that Olly would be riding off into the sunset this season. This season saw the continued use of jumping back and forth between current and future timelines where Oliver’s two children, Mia & William are all grown up and doing their own vigilante justice. I watched the entire five part Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover special between all the DC-CW shows. I will not attempt to explain it because my brain will explode in doing so, but it has a major impact dealing with Oliver’s fate and it all comes full circle in the finale with a heartfelt memorial for Oliver in front of a lot of familiar faces that were delightful to see again. The memorial saw an absolutely killer speech from Diggle that had my emotions running wild.
Tumblr media
Arrow has consistently remained my favorite DC show on the CW. It had a touch more edge than the other shows which eventually morphed into a carefree, watered down formula I could not tolerate anymore. It sounds like there will be a new spinoff show with Mia and William starting next season, but I think but this seems like the perfect jumping off point from the ever-growing lineup of DC shows. There were times I felt like I needed a guide to keep up with all the time travelling plot threads, but the recaps helped keep me in check, and this was a great way to wrap up my favorite show of the CW-DC ‘Arrow-verse.’ Grade: A The Witcher – I heard a lot of positive buzz going into this Netflix original series, and being only eight episodes did not seem like too much of a commitment so I dove right in. The videogames this series is based on have been in my backlog forever so I cannot say how they compare, but I was won over by the two main characters of Geralt and Yennefer. Jaskier the bard was also the perfect companion to provide brief moments of levity. Henry Cavill has a tremendous presence as Geralt, and comes off as one powerful badass not to mess with. My favorite episode is where Geralt competes against a couple other factions going up a mountain to hunt a dragon that has many fun twists and turns. It would not be a medieval fantasy show without a big awesome setpiece war of a finale, and Witcher also delivers on that front. Only nitpick I have is sometimes the lore can be a bit dense to keep up with, but at only eight episodes that does not prevent it from being an easy recommendation. Grade: A-
Tumblr media
Castlevania – The third season of the Netflix original show based on the hit videogame series is easily my favorite season of the three. There are several separate story arcs transpiring throughout the season, and most of them I was able to get into with the exception of Alucard's odd arc where mysterious loners seek his guidance who oddly turn on him for not revealing all his secrets after only a week under his tutelage. The rest of the cast had vastly more intriguing storylines. Trevor and Sypha are an adorably deadly couple that find themselves helping out a village filled with all kinds of dark secrets. Forgemaster Hector is wrapped up in a pickle of a situation as a prisoner of vampires who want global conquest. Forgemaster Isaac had an arc that I got into where he also is on his own quest for taking over the world. Something about the way it was written this season especially made it pop for me with each episode having one or two standout sessions of conversing. That boat captain especially, I want him to come back after his enticing conversations with Isaac! The last two episodes packed a really mean punch and compensate for the lack of action for the rest of the season. Sure as hell hope to see a fourth season soon enough! Grade: A Star Trek: Picard - During the early weeks of the global pandemic we are now in, a lot of streaming services offered extended free trials. I took advantage of that for CBS All Access, which is the exclusive home of Picard. Despite being nearly 20 years older since we last saw him as Picard, Sir Patrick Stewart remains masterful in the role. Now that it has been about a month since I wrapped it up, I am kind of 50/50 on the first season of Picard. There were some characters that I did not care for, but the show ultimately came together for a semi-decent season. Loved the expected old faces that returned for rushes of nostalgia I was totally into, and am glad only a few older faces returned to save room for future cameos. Took a while to get use to watching Star Trek in a serialized format with story arcs lasting the whole season, but I liked the crew Picard assembled by the end of the season, and although the season arc spiraled into a bit of a mess by the season finale that I additionally will refrain from attempting to explain, a big part of me is feeling like the cast was starting to organically gel by the last episode which leads me hoping for a better dynamic in season two. Grade: B-
Tumblr media
Star Trek: Discovery (Seasons 1 & 2) – That CBS All Access trial wound up getting extended further into two months for me so I once again took advantage of that to plow through the first two seasons of the newest core Star Trek show, Discovery. The first season was a bit of a chore to get through. After an explosive two episode season opener setting up the protagonist Michael Burnham, the show gradually got less interesting as they mixed in plot tropes I despise like time travelling and alternate dimensions that play a major role in the first season. I will give props to a guilty pleasure time loop episode I was all in for however that can easily be watched in its own without taking in the rest of the serialized plot. I was not that into Rainn Wilson before, but his recurring role here as con-man Harry Mudd was my unlikely favorite character of the first season. My main gripe about the first season is it is all about Michael, with the rest of the crew primarily relegated to B and C plot affairs while most other past Star Trek shows shined the spotlight on the entire crew. The second season is a step up with some noticeable improvements. I liked the introduction of their versions of Captain Pike and Spock on here that drastically helped the rest of the cast to step up. Seeing Spock & Michael’s sibling rivalry and their past revealed as the season went on was an arc that I was able to invest in. Discovery did a little bit of fleshing out of some parts of the rest of the crew, but it could have done better where instead a lot more emphasis was placed on Michael's character making silly Jennifer Garner-esque reactionary faces. She does a mean vulcan eyebrow though, ditto with Spock! Special effects are in a league of their own, no idea how they have the budget for it with nearly every episode having a ton of spectacular action scenes. TNG nut in me would prefer Discovery to dial back the action a notch or two, but supposedly the new Pike spinoff show, Strange New Worlds, will do that next year. Season 1 Grade: C- Season 2 Grade: B- ====================================== UPDATE – July 2, 2020 ====================================== A couple weeks after I posted this originally I did one of them free one week trials for HBO Max to crank out two more shows I have been meaning to get to for quite some time so here are my thoughts on them….

Watchmen - The 2009 film is extraordinarily polarizing among anyone I talk to. I have a love/hate/love relationship with it myself. The HBO TV series from several months ago appears to be the same from the first few people I spoke with about it too after finishing it earlier this week. It is set in the present in 2019, some 34 years after the events of the graphic novel. I was hooked by the end of the first episode which had an impactful viewing experience due to the similarities of how the police are portrayed in Watchmen to the recent real life events/riots/protests in recent weeks. Nearly every episode had an interesting hook that spiraled into another arc that had its own callback and references to the original story and how the present world in the show was still enduring the rippling effects from the conclusion of the original saga. The second half of the season has a different dynamic to it once certain revelations are made of key characters and other characters are introduced. Seeing each episode’s dose of Ozymandias’ journey from the past 34 years had me scratching my head where it was going until his arc came full circle and it all pleasantly came together. A couple little twists and turns did not sit well with me in how the finale played out, but for the most part I was absolutely invested in the series throughout and hopes the show gets picked up for a second season which is currently in doubt because the season one showrunner feels the first season put an overall conclusion to Watchmen all together. Game of Thrones - I finally got around to watching the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. I somehow managed to escape spoilers all this time too. Was in no rush to see it due to noticeable step down in quality from the seventh season based on how rushed it felt and how it crammed two seasons of content into one. Unfortunately the same can be said here for the last season. The thing is though the first half of season eight is extremely good. Episode one is all about reuniting the characters and setting up for the battle of all battles against the undead army that has been building since the very beginning of the show. I loved how the second episode gave nearly every character a moment of their own to take in their presumable last evening before the fight ahead as they basked in each other’s fellowship and drink. Then the battle itself was a huge undertaking for a TV show to pull off a battle scene of that magnitude for over an hour, even with a premium HBO budget. There are parts where I can nitpick and see where they tried little camera tricks and implemented other special effects tomfoolery to give the false illusion they were on par with the AAA budget cinematic battles of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but by and large that battle with the Whitewalkers is an impressive feat of television filmmaking that I will never forget. Loved every chapter of that third episode. If you have fallen off of Game of Thrones after season seven, then do yourself a favor and at least watch episodes two and three of the final season. Now if the series would have ended after that big battle that would have been ideal, but there was still one Queen Cersei to deal with…. …and the final three episodes of the season eight dealt with the rest of the kingdoms building up for one last battle to take over the Red Keep and remove Cersei from the throne. The final three episodes feel overwhelmingly rushed and should have had their own expanded season, and that is saying something because those episodes are all longer than average episodes and around the length of a movie each. While the first half of the final season has key characters meet their demise in a blaze of glory, the final episodes have anticlimactic finales for fan favorite characters and it felt like the writers were trying to make the best of the worst situation for trying to wrap up the show. There are a couple fleeting moments I enjoyed for certain characters having a gratifying conclusion to their stories, but I could not shake this gut-wrenching feeling throughout the final two episodes that the wheels were quickly flying off the rails. For what it is worth, I did like Bran and Jon Snow’s final destinations and scenes for how they were shot and am now relieved I have now got this show out of the way. I avoided reading recaps and spoilers, but had a feeling this was not going to be a good season due to a general lack of reaction and enthusiasm for the final season as it was transpiring, minus a little optimism for the aforementioned midseason battle. The series finale came and went without much of an online reaction to my surprise and in the succeeding months little murmurs of ‘meh’ was what I picked up on in the general sense of how it wrapped up when asking around….and I am essentially on board with that after seeing it myself. Now with that out of the way…should I read the books?
