i don't know if shipping has always been like this, or maybe i'm just noticing it more and more now, but i see people saying things like "why would you ship them, they hate/wronged/betrayed each other", or "how can you ship them, one of them hurt/maim/rip/teared/shot the other".
and i wonder where the misconception arose that the goal of shipping was to find only the most saccharine, hollywood version of a good christian ship, so that you may parade it around as the gold standard of a moral, fictional relationship. people have become so convinced that "shipping" is synonymous with "condoning", that anything as risque as "tried to kill each other once" is grounds for throwing the thousand other intricacies of a relationship between two people into the trash.
i've always viewed shipping is the exercise in creativity, an opportunity to take a microscope and put a potentially fascinating relationship under it. "they don't love each other" what if they loved each other in a way that was only possible for them to love each other. show me a love that is only possible between these two messed up people with all their baggage and ugly, twisted up feelings and views on each other. show me something that will stick with me for days, for good or bad.

WE’RE KICKING OFF CHAPTER 4 WITH OUR ANNUAL CLOCKWORK SECRET SANTA EVENT!
For those unfamiliar with Secret Santas/giftswaps, we’re hosting a swap of art/fics/any form of fan-created material. People are assigned a person to make a gift for, and in turn they will also get a gift from people who are participating– it’s a great way to get to know your fellow clockworkers \o/
Signups will close in five days (December 14) and assignments should be out by December 16th. The deadline for gift giving will be January 15th– something to look forward to even after New Year’s and the rest of the holidays are over.

Hello Tumblr! It’s been a while since I posted a photo.
So a while back I did a piece of fanart for the webcomic Clockwork (my favorite), by @chikuto. Naturally, I looked back at it and said “wow, I was really bad at art.” So I decided to do a new, better one! So here’s Cog Kleinschmidt, lovely salt child of Chikuto, in all his magical glory. I may be obsessing over this comic too much, but she deserves the love because it’s amazing and she’s amazing. She’s worked through harsh depression to give us her masterpiece, and I commend her for it because it’s inspiring me to get going on my own comic I’ve been neglecting. So thanks for inadvertently getting me back in gear, Chikuto dear~
On another note, his magic was so much fun to draw, it’s a style I never tried before! Might keep it in mind for my own magical universe!!

its very weird growing up and doing art all the time, being an artist in your teens and doing commissions, being an artist in your 20s and doing work in the art industry, and then realizing you have hit a point where art isn't fun anymore. that you no longer derive joy from the act of creating art. its just frustration. giving up early. never being happy enough to follow through on anything you finish. its like a core piece of your identity just vanished into thin air and left you hollow.
idk. i've so long grown exhausted of thinking "i'll get my spark back one day". i'm terrified of the idea that i just won't.

secret santa assignments have been released!
Those participating should have gotten a message from me by now via the tumblr account provided in the sign up form. If you haven’t received your assignment email please message us!
This will be a bit unlike conventional secret santas, where the person will see who is giving them their gift. We do this as a way of encouraging fellow fans to reach out and talk to each other.
Some things to remember as you guys have fun and do your stuff:
Please make sure it’s a finished piece! Nothing is more disheartening to pour your heart and soul into the gift you’ve made, only to get a pencil-sketch done in two minutes. It wouldn’t be fair.
By January 10th we ask that you message this account with your gift status
You will receive a CONFIRMATION EMAIL by Jan 13th. Once confirmed, please post your gift to your blog by JANUARY 15
In the caption, @clockwork-fans as well as your giftee’s tumblr account
