Going very British tonight: putting together some quick chicken tikka masala with Patak's curry paste!
Never been as wild about that one, but it was the curry paste variety that I spotted in a supermarket here. Better variety in the cooking sauces, but I prefer to use the paste actual BIR takeaway style. They usually buy the Patak's pastes by the bucket.
Tonight, the sauce is getting the ever-popular "half a thing of whatever tomato product is open in the fridge", passata this time. Mr. C also bought light cream (here, matlagningsgrädde or "cooking cream") because I forgot to specify. It's all good. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On more of a hillbilly fusion note, though, I'm also planning to make some half-assed take on a dry cabbage curry in the Instant Pot, to go with it. We had half a big head of cabbage in the fridge. This is basically just going to be a pressure cooker version of my usual fried cabbage, but with different seasoning. Which is true enough of a lot of actual South Asian versions, probably including the pressure cooking sometimes to speed up the braising part. People there usually have access to a better assortment of spices than I do right at the moment, though thankfully that should be partly remedied after we get the latest Drakfrukt order.

sorry but. like. the thing that gets me about the drakes & the graysons and that photo of them is that there was no particular reason behind tim's parents sending that photo to dick except just to be kind to a boy who just lost his parents. like they developed that photo and probably realized they might have one of the last photos of dick & his parents ever taken and then they decided to send it over to him just so he had it. and there was no expectation of anything in return!! they didn't know bruce or care about being in his good graces. they didn't make a fuss over having it or super bother dick--they just sent him a copy of the photo and then laid the whole thing to rest. and like. think of it.
when the drakes were at the circus & janet was nervous about tim being scared and jack zeroed in on the graysons to introduce tim to so tim knew the performers were just people under the costumes, nothing to be scared of, & they were so polite about interrupting the graysons just to ask for a photo & the graysons were so kind to *them* in agreeing for a photo to add a little specialness to their little boy's first time at the circus & make him feel better about it....
and then those parents die!! the ones who were so nice to them and *their* son & they could just delete the picture and try to forget about it because it's a reminder of the incredibly traumatic time their whole family went through by witnessing a death but instead they decided to develop it and send it to dick just to be kind to a son whose parents were kind to their own.

The kids (and Robin) are banned from joining the weekly Munson-Harrington movie night. It used to be a movie night for the entire Party until the kids ruined it.
Lucas wanted Steve’s opinion on who the hottest Clue character was. He expected him to back him up with Miss Scarlet as opposed to Dustin’s vote of Mrs. Peacock and Max’s vote of Mrs. White.
No one expected him to say, “Wadsworth, for sure. I’ve seen his legs in fishnets and he’s no Eddie but he’s up there.”
There was a moment of silence before Eddie started choking on air in shock and Robin started yelling at him to take back what he said about Miss Scarlett because, “are you looking at her in that dress, Steve? What the hell do you mean Wadsworth?! Look at her shoulders, Steve! I’d date her in a heartbeat, what do you mean?!”
That’s the story of how Steve outed him and Eddie and how Robin outed herself. So now movie nights are just between Steve and Eddie because Eddie can’t trust him to keep his movie opinions to himself and he does not want a repeat of the Clue disaster.

Listen I could spend forever writing an essay on why Rocky Horror Picture Show works so well but I think it comes down to the movie just being unapologetically horny and queer. It’s a film that says it’s ok to let go of everything dragging you down, it’s ok to be monstrous and strange in all the ways normal society just can’t understand. You should go and be the person you are because you just might end up really enjoying it.
And above all that you can be desirable. You can be sexy and free and fucked up with everyone else who’s just like you.
Why be normal when you can be extraordinary?

It's Curry Night, because I got the urge.
Here we've got some dry mixed vegetables, with no potatoes but incorporating what was left of that fried cabbage from the other night.
I also decided to use some panch phoron in place of the plain cumin seeds because I like it, and a splash of the tomato puree that I already had open instead of chopped tomatoes. It also got a little lime juice at the end to brighten it up a little more. That got done first, but sitting a little while will only help it.
To go with that, still cooking:
I decided to stick with the coconut theme, and just used coconut oil for that.
Finally, one grain to rule them all.

Which just finished so that I could take the lid off and fluff it up. That batch of Basmati we bought is all broken up, but at least the flavor is fine.
I didn't use any particular recipe. But, this one from the chicken curry lady looks decent. As usual, mine got some butter added before the lid went on, because I like it. Really need to make some ghee.

Waking up to really high pain levels and having a partner that will do all of the animal chores (without me asking, he just knew I was having a rough morning) before his 9-5 is really something. I've always been grateful for my animals for their ability to get me out of bed when I'm hurting too much and wouldn't move for anything else, even my own needs. But right now I'm feeling really grateful for the opposite. The ability to lay in bed as long as I need while my meds kick in, without worrying that doing so will be detrimental to the animals that I care for.
