Pairings: crush!jeongwoo x reader

warnings: kissing, partying but no mentions of alcohol, a mix of highschool!au and coffee shop!au, danielle from newjeans is your best friend

word count: 2.3k

a/n: hellooo! i hope i did okay for my one of my first requests. i tried my best to make it line up with the scenario so pls enjoy!

"one hot chocolate for jeongwoo." you sat the coffee down on the table. you've always seen jeongwoo around school and you couldn't help but look at him every time he was around. he had such a nice smile every time he greeted you in the hallway.

since he played basketball, you would go to the games with your friend, danielle, when you didn't have to work. he was also nice to everyone, unlike some of the others guys on the basketball team. he would come to the coffee shop from time to time so he knew you for always making his order just the way he likes it.

"thanks, y/n." he says as he takes a sip of his drink. you smile and walk away. you take a glimpse of the shop to see that it isn't very busy, so you see this as an opportunity to make small talk with your crush. you walk back over and he looks up at you.

"hey, i was wondering when's the next game?" you asked knowing that there was one later that night.

"there's actually one tonight."

"oh really, who are you going up against?"

"jyp high."

you raised your eyebrows. "jyp high? aren't they like your main competition?" you air quote and he nods his head.

"yes but if we win, the team is going to throw this huge party."

and that's when it hits you. if they win, you have a chance to see jeongwoo outside of school and the coffee shop. you have a chance to show off and make an impression. jeongwoo's phone dings as he gets a notification from his coach. "i gotta go. practice is starting soon." he grabs his bag and heads out the door.

"okay, well good luck." you walk back feeling like you've made progress. after a couple hours, your shift ends and you call danielle and tell her that your on your way to pick her up. you're excited to tell her you finally initiated a conversation all by yourself with him. you made your way to your friends house to text her that you're waiting outside for her. she runs to your car and yells, "are you ready for the biggest game of the year?!"

you laugh while unlocking the door for your friend. “alright now, get in.”

"ooouuu somebody seems to be in a good mood." danielle sings, hopping into your car and you start the ignition.

"a little bit." you giggle. "i may or may not have talked to a certain someone at work." danielle grabs your arm while your driving off.

"oh my god, shut up." she smiles big. "tell me what happened! i wanna know!" her excitement bursts out of her. if you could count on anyone, it was definitely danielle. she was your number one supporter no matter what. you told her exactly what happened and she gives you a round of applause, making you laugh again.

"oh my god, babes, do you know what this means?" your friend anticipates.

"that i get to see my crush outside of school and work. yeah, i already ran that through my head." you accidentally sigh out.

"hey, don't be nervous. i'll be right beside you." she grabs your hand and holds it with both or hers.

"thanks, danielle. i don't know what i would do without you."

"probably make a fool out of yourself." she laughs, making you roll your eyes.

a few minutes later, you two finally made it to the game and bought your way in. danielle always likes sitting closest to the court, so you made your way down the bleachers right before the game starts. jeongwoo catches a glimpse of you in the front row. you may have been to the basketball games before but this is the first time he's seen you at one.

the game goes on, and throughout the game, both teams were neck and neck. your eyes kept batting from the court to the clock, hoping that jyp high loses just this once. it's the last 5 seconds and jeongwoo takes the ball. he doesn't have much time as the clock is ticking. he made his decision to shoot the ball from the half court and everyone gasps behind you. the buzzer beeps as jeongwoo's shot unexpectedly makes it, making the crowd yell and hop out of their seats.

you and danielle cheer loudly until the excitement dials down. "we need to go so i can change my outfit!"

"what are we waiting for? let's go!" danielle grabs your hand and leads the way until you get to the parking lot. danielle starts walking backwards as she's face to face with you.

"okay, so what look are we going for? cute? alternative? sexy??" she dances in tiny, turning back around to grab your arm.

"i don't know. what do you think will look best on me?" you pucker your lips as you go deep in thought. then a lightbulb pops in your dear friend's head.

"i got it! you can wear that hot outfit you wore once to your aunt's party a few months ago. that way you'll stand out and jeongwoo will definitely notice you."

you cover her mouth and shush her. since you two were outside in the lot, anyone could've heard her if they were close enough.

"don't tell the whole world my crush, danielle." you whisper loudly. she puts her hands up in defense and starts speed walking to your car. little did you know jeongwoo was close enough to hear that whole conversation. he was just in the car next to yours. when he found out, he was shocked. jeongwoo honestly didn't know how to feel about it, so in that moment he brushed it off as he went and got ready for the party.

it's 10:00 on a friday night and almost everyone who was at the game was already at that party. you and danielle make your way to the doorstep before opening the door, hearing music blast from the other side.

"wait, danielle, before i go in, how do i look?" you straightened up your outfit preventing any wrinkles.

"babes, you look perfect." she smiles as you shy away from her compliment. "jeongwoo won’t be able to take his eyes off you when he sees you. just make sure you don't give him every bit of your attention. play it cool and keep it cool, okay?" you take a breath and nod before she opens to door.

this is not danielle’s first party like this, but you on the other hand have your eyes going everywhere admiring how the party looks. the huge eight foot speakers in the living room, the flashing lights from inside and outside the house, and the random glow in the dark objects around the room has you feeling good. great even as a matter of fact.

your friend grabs your hand and takes you to the dance floor as 'ok!' from nct u is playing. you decided to let loose and start feeling the music, forgetting the main reason you're there. jeongwoo is talking to one of his teammates as he catches a glimpse of danielle on the floor. "is that danielle?" his friend asks in curiosity.

jeongwoo turns his head seeing danielle and then double takes as he sees you on the dance floor. he almost didn't recognize you.

"who's that dancing next to her?" he asks. "that's...that's y/n." jeongwoo stares off. he can't take his eyes off you. a smirk grows on his face without even realizing.

he turns back to his teammate to find that he's out of sight. he looks around to find him but his eyes fall back on you. he looked away a couple times to not seem like he was creeping. that is until he lost sight of you, and part of him wanted to find you and talk to you.

in that moment, you lost danielle and you could only look for so long in a crowded area. you gave up and went upstairs to find the bathroom. the place was big enough to get lost, so after you used the bathroom, you went into a random room to relax for a little bit.

for the first time since you stepped into the house, you thought about him, your crush. you wonder how the night got away from you, hoping you didn't mess up your plan to catch his eye. then you hear a subtle knock on the door. you look over to see who it was.

"oh hi." you say as calm as possible. coincidentally, the knock was from jeongwoo. you stand up, signaling him that it was okay to come in.

"hey." he walks in only at the front of the entrance. "i didn't know you were a party person."

"i thought i'd give it a chance." you laugh nervously. jeongwoo smiles, looking down at his shoes.

"you look really great tonight, y/n." he says looking back up to meet your eyes. this time you look down at your shoes. your face starts heating up from his compliment. "thank you." you mumble, he barely heard you as the blasting music is vibrating from upstairs.

"sooo..." you elongate, slightly rocking back and forth on the heels of your feet.

"sooo..." he elongates as well, rubbing the back of his neck. the tension between you two was starting to grow. standing across from each other and hardly making any eye contact was making you anxious.

you suddenly start laughing, making the boy across from you confused. you cup your face and shake your head. "this is so awkward."

"i'm sorry, i didn't mean to make you feel awkward." he worries. "maybe i should just- i should go." he starts waking away. "wait, don't go." you grab his arm and pull him back. you look up to see jeongwoo close to your face.

"you have really pretty eyes." you say as if your in a trance. "so do you." he looks back and forth at your eyes and lips.

you close your eyes as you slowly lean into him. but both of you end up backing away and you clear your throat as danielle walks in...just your luck.

"y/n, there you are! i think i might've lost my phone." she gives you a wincing look. that moment between you and jeongwoo was ruined and you couldn't help but feel upset. you throw on a fake smile and walk towards danielle.

"okay, let's go look for it." you walk out the room, leaving jeongwoo alone and uncertain.

after you found your friends phone, you told her that you were ready to go. she immediately walked you to your car as she saw the sad look on your face. the ride was quiet and danielle started to worry.

"hey, you okay? did something happen between you and jeongwoo?" she asked sincerely. you sigh, it's not like danielle did it on purpose. you blamed it on yourself for not making a move fast enough.

"no, nothing happened. i don't wanna talk about it." you brushed off. danielle grabs your hand and holds it tight for the rest of the ride.

a week has past and you haven't heard from jeongwoo since the party. he doesn't greet you in the hallways anymore and when you see him looking at you, he looks away. you haven't seen him at the coffee shop either. it's like the two of you were avoiding each other and you didn't understand why.

one day at the coffee shop, you clean off the tables as you hear the bell ring from the open door. "sorry, we're closed." you say, too focused on cleaning so you can go home.

"any chance we can talk?" a familiar voice rings through your ears. you look up and see the pretty boy standing on the doormat.

"jeongwoo?" your eyes widen. "what are you doing here?" he walks towards you slowly.

"i want to apologize for avoiding you the past few days. i didn't know how to approach you since that day at the party when..you know."

you press your lips together, losing eye contact with him. "i'm sorry, too." you say. "it takes effort for both of us to avoid each other."

the tension eases but you feel the awkwardness between you two again. . "maybe we can just start over?" you speak up again, shrugging your shoulders.

"actually, i was wondering..." jeongwoo steps closer to you, his face only inches away from yours. your face starts heating up.

"...if we can pick up where we left off?" he finishes. you try and hide the smile that's growing from your face.

"okay." you slightly nod. he raises his hands to hold your face and presses a soft kiss on your lips. the moment hits you and you smile into the kiss before pulling away.

"does this mean you're my boyfriend now?" you gently smile, chuckling at the boy.

“that’s what you wanted, right?” he smirks. your eyes grow wide, slightly baffled at his remark.

“you knew?” you stand there shocked. jeongwoo nods slowly. “yeah, i heard you and danielle outside after the game.”

“oh my god, you weren’t supposed to hear that. no one was supposed to, actually.” you nervously chuckle. you hide your face with your hands.

“maybe I wouldn’t be in this place if I didn’t.” he shrugs. him saying that made you feel a little better about it. you grab his hand and intertwine it with yours.

"well, i guess since your my boyfriend now, you have to walk me home." jeongwoo laughs and you both head out of the cafe.

after all that happened, you don't regret it because you ended up with the guy you liked. and to you, the timing couldn't have been better.

“Are you sure you’re okay with it just being the two of us?”

Jeongwoo nearly jumped at the sound of your voice, even though this was your house. You’d come back into the living room, carrying a bowl of popcorn and your own drink (his was already set on a coaster on the coffee table). The other snacks were already out, and Jeongwoo had lightly picked at a piece of candy, although he’d never cracked open the wrapper. It was something for him to idly fiddle with, heart racing in his chest.

“Are you?” He asked, positive his cheeks were flushed. Suddenly, he felt so obvious. You had to know, didn’t you…?

You passed the bowl of popcorn to him as you reached for the controller. “I’m fine with it! I’m always happy to hang out with you,” you giggled. “I just… I dunno. It’s weird everyone dropped out, y’know?”

Doyoung had made up an excuse about homework. Haruto said something about some limited item that Hyunsuk wanted, so he had to go with him and Yoshi to try and get it. Junghwan just faked sick (because Jeongwoo heard that fake cough—he can’t be fooled!). Which meant it was now just you and Jeongwoo, because you still wanted to watch movies, and he…

Well. He was probably an idiot. “I guess it’s just a weird coincidence, huh?”

A+ acting. Jeongwoo felt awkward as hell trying to feign ignorance, but you seemed to buy it as you started up the first movie. His shoulder was pressed against your own, a plush blanket thrown over his lap. You’d taken the popcorn bowl back, setting it in your lap as the two of you watched. As much as he wanted to focus on the movie, your hand was pressing against his. This movie wasn’t even scary, but he almost wished it was—just to have an excuse to hold your hand and then maybe find the courage to just do what he needed to do. He said today would be the day. That was why everyone backed out, right? Because Jeongwoo had promised he’d confess today?

Barely twenty minutes in, he decided to throw caution to the wind. He paused it, and turned to you, speaking up before you could ask what was wrong, “Everyone backed out because I told them I was going to tell you I like you.”

You stared at him. “What?”

He shut his eyes. “I kept telling myself I’d confess to you that I’ve had a crush on you for a while. But I kept backing out because I didn’t want to ruin our friendship. The others kept telling me it was all in my head and that I should just say something already, so I said I’d do it today, and then they all just… ditched us to make sure I’d do it.”

“Jeongwoo—”

“I know it was stupid,” he opened his eyes, watching you for a moment. “But I didn’t want to not say something. You deserve to know why I act so weird sometimes—”

“So Doyoung wasn’t lying to me?”

He stared at you. “What?”

“Doyoung told me that you liked me, too,” you said, “and that I should just say something.”

Wait. What? Really? “You… You like me?” He said, a shy smile tugging at his lips. He hadn’t planned this far, actually—he always thought it would be a matter of him confessing, you telling him it was okay, and the two of you resolving to not destroy your friendship over this. “Really?!”

Suddenly, it was your turn to be flustered. “Yeah! I mean… You’re really sweet. I dunno, Doyoung told me it was obvious that I liked you because I always laughed really loud at your jokes, even when they weren’t that funny…”

… Now that you mentioned it, it was a little more obvious. His hand pressed against your own again, and he yearned to hold it. “Okay, so… Can I take you on a real date sometime?”

“I think this can easily count as a ‘real’ date, if you want,” you hummed. “That way our next date doesn’t have to be our first.”

“What’s wrong with that?”

You watched him. “Aren’t first dates awkward sometimes? I dunno, I just… I didn’t want our first date to be awkward. If we call this our first date, then we can just have fun next time.”

Oh. He felt the blood rushing to his cheeks. How cute of you… You were already thinking ahead to the point of wanting a second date when he’d yet to have this first one with you. “I think I’d like that a lot.”

With the movie started again, Jeongwoo felt you slide in a little closer. You rested your head on his shoulder, smiling as you took his hand again. He intertwined his fingers with yours, the way he always used to when the two of you were walking through a crowd because you’d always get lost otherwise. Yet this time it felt different.

Maybe, in his heart, it was because this was day one for him. Movies and cuddling with his favorite person… It’d be a first date he’d always hold close to his heart.

Note

I like to see him as an adult because of the tattoo and the piercings, but then I remember that I feel kinda uncomfortable with the possibility of seeing other idols born in the same year as him as how I could see Matthew or Taerae (aka what I usually call the "crush biases") and I don't know what to think anymore (fun fact, he was the first one I met with all the random tiktok and youtube memes, and actually got obsessed with him until I saw his age)

(btw, if I did everything right, I applied for the taglist a few minutes ago, specifically for xdh, but I actually stan the other groups too and I'd like to be tagged in those as well if possible, please?? I don't really stan nct as whole group but I like the dreamies, so I guess I wouldn't mind seeing the other units either)

yeah, I do agree Ricky looks older than what he actually is because of the tattoos and bleached hair. when i first saw him, I thought he'd be at least 2002. other 04 idols are also still babies in my head? i think about jeongwoo n haruto from treasure and jungwon from enha (literal children in my eyes). my "crush biases" are jiwoong and hanbin, tbh i only really see biases as "crushes" if they're the same age or older :D

. . SYNOPSIS⌇you’ve only seen jungwon from afar, being worlds apart there was no need for a popular and non-popular to interact. when you’re assigned as desk mates for the year what will happen? will you find solace in one another or just tear each other down?

you were nervous, feeling a sweat build up on your skin and your hands tremble as you made your way to the very back stairwell. exactly where lee heeseung asked to meet you.

not knowing what to expect, a million thoughts ran through your head a minute. but the overarching question that consumed your mind was very simple.

did he read your diary?

the very thought of him seeing everything you wrote about your crush on him terrified you. having a crush was scary enough, but on lee heeseung? the senior class president and your neighbor since your middle school days? it was embarrassing. simply put you were mortified that this was the reason he messaged you.

but how would he have read your diary? were you actually correct in thinking jungwon stole it and passed it around his friend group like some trophy? you didn’t know if you felt angry or upset at the idea, perhaps both.

your thoughts came to a sudden halt as you neared the stairwell you were supposed to meet heeseung at.

“you got this” you mumbled under your breath as you gripped the door handles.

pushing open the door you were meet with the boy in question, lee heeseung. you couldn’t help but allow yourself to take in his beauty. it’s no doubt he’s one of the most handsome boys at your school, not to mention his kind aura and how he respects everyone around him.

snapping out of your admiration you smiled softly at the older boy who finally noticed you.

“hi”

“hey yn”

silently walking closer to heeseung, you felt as if the air was ripped from your lungs. sure you’ve been around him many times before, hell he even tutored your last year, yet here you were feeling like you were punched in the gut just being in his presence.

“i’m just going to cut right to what i wanted to say okay? please don’t take this the wrong way”

simply staring at him you nodded, too afraid to speak up in this moment.

this is the end, he knows.

“i heard that you like me, and before you had the chance to do anything i wanted to let you down easy” he started in a soft tone, as if he was afraid to hurt you.

“i’m sorry i don’t feel the same about you as you do me. i cant return anything at all, so i think it’s best you try to move on yn. i don’t want to hurt you but i can’t stand around and have you pin over me when i can’t do anything in return. plus i’m dating miyeon, again i’m sorry yn”

a sinking feeling took over your body. was this really happening? did you just get rejected and you never even confessed? you felt the burning behind your eyes and knew you needed to get away before he saw you cry, so you quickly nodded and threw a quick ‘that’s okay’ his way before running away from the scene.

letting your feet carry you to your classroom, you expected it to still be empty. break was still in session and usually students would rather be anywhere than the enclosed room.

so it threw you off to see a figure leaning over their desk still, seemingly doing work. pausing in the doorway you wiped at your eyes trying to get rid of any evidence that you had been crying.

“have you seen park jeongwoo?” you asked an all too familiar person.

yang jungwon turned to face you at the sound of your voice, almost a little startled by your presence. he eyed your expression and noticed how upset you seemed, causing him to stand up and move towards you.

“what’s wrong?”

“nothing. have you seen jeongwoo?”

jungwon sighed and shook his head taking a few steps back “i think i saw him in the music room”

“thanks” you muttered immediately turning to walk in the direction of the schools music room, leaving a confused and somewhat concerned jungwon behind.

after arriving at your destination, you spotted the very boy you needed in this moment. walking straight into his arms you began to cry once more, letting the emotions wash over you.

“woah woah what happened?” jeongwoo asked worriedly hugging your shaking figure back.

“how can i even get rejected when i never confess jeongwoo? heeseung just rejected me before i even had a chance to try”

the two of you spent the rest of break in the music room, you clinging onto jeongwoo and him consoling you.

“it’s all okay yn, you have me and the others here for you”

I ended up dropping some of the comics I’ve recommended before, so I’m only going to recommend completed stories from now on.

A Shoulder to Cry On (Dongmul)

When Dayeol is framed for assault by Taehyun, he nearly loses his archery scholarship. But instead of feeling the least bit remorseful for nearly ruining Dayeol’s life, Taehyun starts to torment Dayeol even further.

I can’t tell you how much I hated Taehyun in the beginning of this story, but by the end, my heart belonged to him. I usually don’t like assholes with sad backstories as love interests, but Taehyun is the exception.

Fools (Yeongha)

Shounen Ai - After overhearing a fight that new student Jeongwoo had with his boyfriend, college senior Eungi finds himself becoming increasingly confused about his feelings toward Jeongwoo. Jeongwoo, meanwhile, fresh out of a long and rocky relationship, isn’t ready to act on his feelings toward Eungi. Commence awkward not-dates.

This is the most relatable depiction of the uncomfortable early stages of a romance that I’ve ever seen. It also shows how trauma from past toxic relationships can affect new, healthy ones. But it’s never too heavy-handed about it. It’s really funny at times, but also has its fair share of angst.

Heesu’s and Seung Won’s best friends are the best wingmen, and extra points for one of them being a well-written female character. My only complaint is that I wasn’t interested in the second couple at all, but if you tend to like side pairs, you’ll probably like them.

All the characters are seriously flawed, and even though it ended the way I hoped it would, nothing feels fully resolved. This comic will hurt you and skip the aftercare. Anyways, have fun.

The authors announced that they are working on a second season, so I guess this one is technically ongoing. But if I don’t like the new ending, I’ll pretend season 2 didn’t happen.

This story holds a special place in my heart. It will have you ugly crying in one chapter and ugly laughing in the next. Min and his friends are a bunch of drunken dumbass college students in the best way.

Shounen Ai - Kisub just needs to crash on Jinwoo’s couch for a few days, or months, or forever. Which is a problem, because Jinwoo has secret feelings for Kisub, and they’re bound to come out eventually.

Roommates is just too funny. The art style and story are pretty simple, but it has a lot of funny little details that make it relatable. Jinwoo is affected by the tiniest things that Kisub does, like putting a medication patch on his neck. Oh if he were an icy hot patch against that neck…

The second season is a new story, completely independent from season one. It’s not as light-hearted as the first season, but like it too.

Shape of Your Love (Park Nodeok)

Shounen Ai - Jung Yohan thinks unrequited love is for idiots, but joke’s on him, because he’s the biggest idiot of them all. When Yohan realizes that his upperclassman Moogyeong has feelings for another guy, he makes it his mission to get the pair together. But the more time he spends with Moogyeong, the more he resents Moogyeong’s secret crush.

Yohan is easily the best thing about this manhwa. He has the greatest facial expressions. There is a spinoff involving two side characters from this story, but I haven’t read it and I don’t plan to.

Someone Else’s BL Manhwa (Bbobariee)

Shounen Ai - Loner by day and cross-dresser by night, Kim Seunghee has managed to keep his double life a secret, until he’s caught in drag after a bad date by class president Park Seungtaek and class trouble maker Lee Kyubin. I’m not even gonna spoil who the pairings are, because it’s not immediately apparent.

Seunghee is a bit of a brat, but that’s part of his charm. He’s not for everyone, but he’s my favorite character. All of the characters turn out to be different from how they first seem, which I adore. There is a HUGE portion of the comic dedicated to the side pairing (hence the title) but both the main and side pairings are cute as hell.

This was one of the first BL comics that I read, so there’s a nostalgia factor there for me. I honestly love it too much to be objective about it. Do I love it because it’s good or is it good because I love it?

This is such a sweet story. The girls are so cute together, and I love everything about Yuan Zi. A beautiful romance that will make you believe in soulmates.

Shounen Ai - Wonyoung is fired from his job after being falsely incriminated in a corruption scandal. By sheer luck, he happens to run into the company chairman’s favorite ceramic artist, Yoon Taejun, who has been living under an alias. He’s told he will likely get his job back if he could convince Taejun to partner with the company. Wonyoung tries to get close to Taejun without revealing that he knows his true identity. What he doesn’t plan on, though, is falling in love with Taejun.

This one is where the DRAMA is at. The story doesn’t ignore the fact that the relationship was built on a lie. It hurts so good.

Sunlight

A TREASURE alternate universe (AU) where Asahi has a cousin, who is half-Japanese/half-Filipino, that he is close to named Akira. This is a slice of life look of Akira's relationship with TREASURE. While some events may follow canon, this work is purely fictional and for entertainment purposes only. Any similarities with the real people based off of these stories are purely coincidence.

Chapter 1

The name Asahi is primarily a male name of Japanese origin that means Morning, Sunlight.

In Thai, Akira or Arkira (Thai: อาคิรา, อาคีรา, อาคีระ) is a unisex name meaning 'the sun' or 'sunlight'.

Akira leans over her desk while writing potential song lyrics in her notebook when her phone rings. She pauses and stares at her phone which indicates 🤖 was trying to FaceTime her. She taps her pen against the table and her brows furrow as she mulls over answering it before swiping to the right. She answers in Japanese, “Moshi moshi?”

She sees her cousin in his studio with two of his members eating snacks at the coffee table; seems like they called her from his mac. A chorus of greetings accompany them waving at her from the table.

“Ki-chaaaan!” "Noona!" "Nee-chan!"

Akira grins and waves at Jeongwoo and Haruto, “Ru-chan, how are you? I have something for Ai-chan that I'll give to you once you get here.” Haruto smiles and nods at her.

“Ki-chan...” Asahi looks at her with a pained look on his face, “I think I need you to teach us more Tagalog words.” Jeongwoo frantically nods across him. She rolls her eyes and tells him they don't need any more and just needs to practice sounding out the ones she sent over the previous week. He pouts at her statement, and she threatens to end the call if he doesn’t quit being a baby.

“Ok, let's start with the very basics from the list like kumusta ka or salamat for the others, you already know this Hi-kun.” They start sounding out the greetings and phrases when Jeongwoo groans, “Will I remember how to say all of this when we get there?” and Akira smiles at him and replies in English, “Don't worry Woo, you can always use English there; it's an official language in The Philippines after all.”

The door suddenly opens, and Yoshi enters the studio, telling the occupants that practice will start in 30 minutes.

“Yoshi-kun!!!! Have you practiced your Tagalog yet?” she beams at him while waving.

Yoshi smiles at the monitor and greets her gently before shaking his head saying they’ve been busy with rehearsals, so he never got the chance. Akira smirks and beckons for him to join them before they need to leave for practice, “You need to get them right to get your fans’ hearts fluttering.” Asahi moves to his desk chair and Yoshi takes his place on the couch. Asahi complains on why she's all sunshine and flowers when it comes to Yoshi and she rolls her eyes at him while telling him no one can beat the anime prince as her favorite. Yoshi just laughs as he replies to her, "I thought Kyu was your favorite? He was your YGTB crush after all." Akira quickly shuts him down - I'm already over it - while the others laugh. She clears her throat and steers them back to the Tagalog lessons.

While they were repeating kumusta ka and mahal kita between conversations around their itinerary, Akira starts thinking of their upcoming visit to Manila and Bangkok when Akira pauses and excitedly asked them if they asked their Lisa-sunbaenim for help with Thai words and Asahi scoffs saying she was too busy for that; there was another Thai staff who helped them out. Akira deflates and turns back to doodle on her notebook while Haruto continues to practice saying maganda. "Now, who's being a baby Ki-chan? For someone older than me, you can be immature at times."

Akira dramatically gasps, "How dare you Hi-kun! I'm only 356 days older than you, we're practically the same age and you're calling me immature? Have you looked at yourself lately, you little shit?" She finishes her rant off in English while Asahi clearly struggles to hold in his laughter with the way his dimples are showing.

Somebody laughs from the door and Akira can see a black-haired head peeping from the studio door.

"Speak of the devil and the even more annoying little shit appears," Akira comments in English while glowering at Jihoon through the screen.

He comes in and shrugs as if to say he doesn't care and grins at Akira. “I need to get my members now or else they will be late for practice.” Asahi turns and tells her he'll call her back when he can. Akira absentmindedly throws out a mata na and ends the call but not before hearing Jihoon call out to her “Don’t miss me too much Ki-chan!” Akira mutters buang under her breath and rips off the page that she was doodling on.

A month and a half later, Akira finds herself following a staff member who was leading her through the hallways of the Mall of Asia arena. She sees one of the managers standing outside who spots her, waves and he immediately goes into the green room to get Asahi as they agreed she wanted to see him alone first.

She sees Asahi step out first before he does and she runs up with her arms open and collides into him. They bump each other's heads but it doesn't matter when Akira starts tearing up as she clung to him and Asahi starts patting her head like he used to when they were little. He tells her hisa shiburi and she nods her head in reply as she buries her face on his shoulder.

Jihoon, Junkyu and Yoshi observe them from the doorway as the Hamadas whisper and nod at each other and Yoshi comments in Korean, “They really are like twins. She's almost the same height as him, I didn't realize that.” Junkyu nods in agreement while Jihoon replies to Yoshi, “Didn't think she'd be this much of a crybaby though with how tough she acts online.” Junkyu responds that he doesn't think it's an act and that she's just soft for their Hi-kun. They all hum in agreement at that when suddenly an excited ball of energy rushes past them and joins the duo in their hug.

“Ki-chan!!! We finally meet in person and you're so pretty! I know our Hi-kun is handsome and it's creepy how you both look so much alike but you're on another level darling, it must be your Philippine genes! Did you have a safe flight coming here? Were there problems getting into the venue?” Hyunsuk rattles off in a mix of Korean and English.

The 00-liners could hear Akira burst out laughing as she responded to Hyunsuk with a squealed Darling! and a tight hug. She then spots the three observing and her eyes narrow and places her hands on her hips as she sees Jihoon but then she throws him a wink. Yoshi laughs and says, “There's our spitfire.” Jihoon grins and waves at her while Junkyu hides a smile behind his hand.

“We could have just gone to the store...”

For a little end-of-the-year celebration, Junghwan had been paired up with you to bring in cookies for your class. Exams were over, and you’d invited your crush (because of course your teacher paired you with your crush--you swore she knew, too) over to help you bake the sugar cookies after school that day. You’d pushed an apron against his chest for him to take and put on while you started making the dough from a recipe your mom had always used when you were a kid.

You pouted. “I don’t wanna go to the store. I wanna make them. I have cookies cutters and everything!”

For a moment, you swore you could see the corners of Junghwan’s mouth twitch into a smile. Instead he just quietly asked for your help tying the back of his apron (not without attempting it himself once or twice).

“Jeongwoo said you went to visit your friends on their campus,” you said, measuring out the dry ingredients. “Did you have fun?”

He nodded, quietly recounting the trip to you as he watched you work. He’d been telling you about how the oldest of his friends (more of a friend of a friend, he told you), Hyunsuk, apparently made music on the side when he noticed that you were taking on all the work. “I can help, too.”

You looked up to see that he was sulking a little, and you had to fight back a laugh. “Okay,” so you slid the recipe over to him, along with the wet ingredients you needed measured. “Then help.”

You handled cracking the eggs against one another before dropping them into your bowl, watching Junghwan out of the corner of your eye as he carefully measured different ingredients out for you. The two of you worked together in a peaceful quiet until you handed a spatula over to Junghwan, telling him to mix the ingredients while you brought out your speaker. Even the feeling of passing it to him, fingers brushing against one enough, was enough to make your heart race a little.

(Your mom had told you young love is like that: giddy and awkward but sweet nonetheless. You’d groaned and told her that you weren’t a baby instead.)

“Hey... Um...”

You’d been rolling out chilled dough half an hour later while Junghwan was looking through your cookie cutter collection.

“I’m glad we didn’t buy cookies.” He didn’t make eye contact with you. “I like spending time with you.”

And then you felt his lips press into your cheek for barely half a second before pulling away.

“I really like you and I’ve been wanting to tell you, and Jeongwoo said I should tell you before school was over for the year--”

You looked up, feeling the way that your face was burning at the sudden declaration. Junghwan wasn’t always the most talkative (you’d seen him be that way with his close friends, but he always seemed to calm down and be a little quieter around you--even more-so than he was with the girls at school), but he was babbling aimlessly about how he’d been crushing on you for months and that it was okay if you didn’t feel the same way, that he understood and he should have asked before he kissed your cheek...

“I’m free Saturday.”

He stopped. “What?”

“There’s a cat cafe,” you said quietly, “that I think would be cute to visit. If you want to go?”

And he smiled, breaking eye contact with you as a shy smile crossed his face. “I’d like that.”

(And maybe you’d hold his hand on the way to the bus stop when he had to go home, just to see how bashful he’d get again.)
